2. Gulliver s Travels By Jonathan Swift
A Humbling Inspiration In 1726 author Jonathan Swift published a satirical, narrative entitled
Gulliver s Travels (Davis, Harrison and Johnson 229). Gulliver s Travels is a novel that has
continued to contribute and thrive in both literature and the film genres. Swift uses comical
events and extraordinary characters to address moral issues that remain decades later in today s
society. Gulliver s Travels has since been reproduced in the film industry multiple times, most
recently in 2010 (Gulliver s Travels). Swift s creative work takes his prideful main character and
protagonist, Lemuel Gulliver through many events which leads to his most traumatizing and
humbling experience. A minor characters within the text, Don Pedro de Mendez is one of the
most influential characters that impacts Gulliver s traveling experience. Don Pedro de Mendez is
a character that helps uplift Gulliver from mild depression and encourages him to embrace who
he is while remaining thoughtful of his shortcomings. Don Pedro de Mendez as a minor character
contributes to both Gulliver s life and the theme of the text. Mendez is a Portuguese captain who
discoveries Gulliver on an island after his exile by the Houyhnhnm tribe. During Gulliver s and
Mendez s interactions the readers are introduced to the moral concept of humbleness and how
pride can affect one s perception. Gulliver s exile from the island of the Houyhnhnm tribe and
Yahoos causes him to fall into a great depression, due to his passion

3. 1984 And The Thought Police In 1984 By George Orwell
In 1949, George Orwell published his chilling take on the future in the novel, 1984. In this future,
London, along with the rest of the former British Empire and America, has become the totalitarian
super state known as Oceania, which is governed by a single Party that has absolute authority. One
of the ways the Party keeps control of its people is by use of the Thought Police, a widespread
secret police organization that monitors the people and deals with anyone who has rebellious
actions, idea,or even thoughts. Although 1984 is nothing but a work of fiction, and furthermore the
Thought Police, while reading 1984, one cannot help but draw comparisons to the real life secret
police found in the Stalinist era Soviet Union. The Stalinist era was the time from 1929 1953 when
Joseph Stalin ruled over the Soviet Union, and like in 1984, Stalin used a secret police
organization to control his people, the Narodny Kommisariat Vnutrennikh Del, which translates
to the People s Commissariat for Internal Affairs. Interestingly enough, George Orwell s novel
1984, was written during this exact time era. Thus, it can be inferred that while creating the
Thought Police for 1984, George Orwell was influenced by the NKVD of the Stalinist era.
During Stalin s reign, the Secret Police played a critical role in enforcing Stalin s will. After
Stalin came to power, one of the first things he did was to greatly expand the size of the Secret
Police. In a biography of Stalin s life, the author

The total DFPR production time for an order was determined to be 47.40 minutes, which
equated to a daily capacity of 10.13 orders (81 boards). Further analysis of DFPR production times
(as shown in Exhibit 6) revealed that production time increases at a decreasing rate as order size
increased. Additionally, daily DFPR capacity, as measured in number of boards, increases at an
increasing rate as the order size is increased (See Exhibit 7). This correlates to DFPR production
time per board being significantly reduced as the order size is increased.
Thus, it is easy to see why a bottleneck might sometimes occur in the DFPR area of there are
several small orders going through back to back. If viewed in the same manner as costs in
economics, the setup time in this operation can be viewed as a fixed cost incurred regardless of
production amount. The rum time can be viewed as variable costs that are incurred at an
incremental rate as production is increased. Thus, smaller orders have a higher percentage of their
production time represented by setup time (fixed) as opposed to run time (variable).
Question 4
A last useful analysis is to examine the standard labor times required for various order sizes.
Exhibit 8 displays the total standard labor times for order sizes of 1 board, 8 boards, and 200

5. Sura 93 The Morning Hours Analysis
Sura 93, The Morning Hours, was a very interesting sura to me and held a lot of important
information. It starts out with verses one and two describing a type of hardship one may
undergo perhaps when one might feel alone as if no one is looking out for them or cares about
them described as the morning hours or when the night is still. Despite the hardship described,
verse three acts as a reminder that the Lord has not thrown you to the wolves leaving you to
suffer and he isn t punishing you or expressing hate for you. The writer then reassures the reader
in verses four to six with the promise that the Lord will give you even more than what you had
before and you will be happy and overall content. Verses seven through nine prompt the reader to
remember what the Lord has done for you in the past and how he has helped you when you were
in need specifically orphaned, lost, and hungry. In light of the theme of social justice, verses ten and
eleven urge you to do unto others as the Lord has done for you like giving to those in need, not
oppressing others, helping the orphans in the world, and when someone asks for help not turning
your back on them. This sura ends with the command to proclaim the grace of the Lord in verse
twelve. In relation to the verse s message to humanity, the first six verses focus on keeping the
faith and having faith that the Lord has not forgotten you in times of hardship and remember he
will always provide for you just as he has done in the past. This

The Titanic was a ship that sunk during its maiden voyage in 1912. This big ship was on it s

it s fate and sunk killing many passengers. As the story goes they say it s the icebergs fault for
the sinking of the ship. When in reality, the White Star Line was truly at fault for the sinking of
the Titanic. They are responsible for this tragedy because they went full speed after ignoring six
ice warnings. Not only that but they should ve thought of the consequences when they decided to

8. Forces Between Nationalism and Sectionalism in the 19th...
What events or trends contributed to the relationship between the forces of Nationalism and
Sectionalism?
During the course of American History, and especially after the War for Independence, Nationalism
and Sectionalism contributed and interacted with each other to shape the development of the
United States of America. These two ideologies are the inverse of one another. When sectionalism
is strong, nationalism is weak. When Nationalism is strong, sectionalism is weak. While
sectionalism and nationalism work off of each other, nationalism has always prevailed over
sectionalism in history. The inverse relationship and clash between the two forces can be seen
through a number of different events or trends in history such as, economical ... Show more content

The new inventions allowed for the belief of Manifest Destiny to fill the heads of Americans.
Manifest Destiny was a phrase used by leaders and politicians in the 1840s to explain continental
expansion by the United States that revitalized a sense of mission or national destiny for
Americans. (PBS Organization n.d.) This idea established a great deal of Nationalism within the
Americans. It created the feeling that, together, Americans would expand and build up America out
West.
Nationalism was strengthened greatly through economic improvements, and it could have also been
seen through some major political endeavors. The ratification of the constitution is one of the
earliest American events that established nationalism. The ratification showed that, through
compromise, Americans could agree on one basic set of rules and regulations for the unity of the
country. The American System, seen later in history, was also important to the force of nationalism
in the country. Henry Clay s American System, devised in the burst of nationalism that followed the
War of 1812, remains one of the most historically significant examples of a government sponsored
program to harmonize and balance the nation s agriculture, commerce, and industry. This System

9. Joyce Carol Vincent Case Study
On January 25, 2006, the body of a British woman was discovered in an apartment above Wood
Green Shopping City: It was determined that the body, consisting primarily of skeletal remains,
was that of Joyce Carol Vincent (October 15,1965 c. December 2003). According to the coroner,
she had died in December, 2003, which means her body lay undiscovered for nearly three years.
How could a beautiful, vivacious woman who was full of life and reaching for her dreams
virtually disappear without even one person noticing? To solve this case, numerous questions need
to be answered: What caused her death? Why didn t anyone miss her during her three year absence?
The Metropolitan Housing Trust
A United Kingdom housing association, the Metropolitan Housing Trust (aka Metropolitan),
owned the apartment in which Joyce s remains were discovered. Metropolitan provides shelter for
a variety of populations, including those who are victims of abuse. Joyce had become a victim of
domestic violence and, in February 2003, she began to receive housing benefits, which gave her the
means to reside in the Metropolitan housing unit.
January 25, 2006 A Grim Discovery
According to the housing association, benefits continued to cover half of the cost of Joyce s rent
for some time following her death. Initially, the association accepted these partial payments:
However, after several attempts were made to collect the remaining balance, a repossession notice
was issued to reclaim her apartment. It is at

10. Gender Bias And Gender Inequality
The average american female only makes в…” of what the average male does. Whether it is in
school, or the workforce, gender inequality still exists and is a major problem. There is still a
huge difference in the way women get treated compared to the way men get treated. Due to the
invisible barrier that is holding back the success of women, social realities need to be redefined in
order for genderinequality to longer exist. Gender inequality refers to the unequal rights,
responsibilities and opportunities of women and men and girls and boys. There are three main
ideas that contribute to it, but there are still many others that do too. One of them is sexism,
which refers to the range of attitudes, beliefs, policies, laws, and behaviors that discriminate on
the basis of gender. A second idea that also contributes is gender roles. Gender roles are rights,
responsibilities, expectations, and relationships of men and women in a society. The third idea is
gender bias, which is the favoritism toward one gender or the other. All three have a direct
correlation with each other. Gender inequality is most common at school and in the workforce. A
lot of people seems to think men hold a higher rank in life than women do just because they think
women cannot do the same things a man can do. Just because the the anatomy of a womanand a
man are different, doesn t mean one or the other should get better treatment, but that is still a reality
women face today. Men have access to many more

11. The Pharmacy Is Not Only A Source Of Medications But Of...
The pharmacy is not only a source of medications but of education and technology use.
The pharmacy plays a crucial role in the hospital because without it, physicians and nurses wouldn t
be able to treat their patients effectively.
The pharmacy is essential to the treatment of disease, since the pharmacy is the site where both
intravenous and pill medications such as chemotherapy and antibiotics are made and dispensed
according to what patient needs. At the hospital, the pharmacy takes care of both inpatients and
outpatients for both prescriptions and over the counter medications. Those who work at the
pharmacy also educated patients and healthcare workers about the side effects of medications,
which medications can be mixed and, especially for stronger medications, the known risks of
taking them. These educational measures are performed to prevent overdose, the inappropriate
use of medications, such as antibiotics, and to give the patients as to what is normal and to be
expected from taking a medication and what symptoms should raise a cause of concern. One way
this duty is performed is by rounds. A round is where the pharmacist along with other doctors such
as a dietitian, social worker, physical therapist, speech therapist, the attending nurse, and the
primary physician, as well as any other specialist whose expertise may be in need, get together to
discuss a group of patients and what is being done about their care and how it can be improved.

12. Objectivity in Journalism
Journalists should express their ideologies and opinions while covering poverty, however, at the
same time they should aim to maintain the objectivity and impartiality standards for effective and
truthful and accurate reporting.
In news reporting, objectivity is seen as one of the chief values for journalists. The objectivity norm
guides to separate the facts from opinions and focus on reporting only the factual content, resulting
in neutral and detached reports rather than emotional ones (Schudson, 2001). On the other hand,
reporting poverty appears as a more complex and sensitive issue which may often require the
journalist to put forward some of their views to provide the reader with more realistic portrayal of a
situation.
One ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However Wainwright criticises the idea of emotional journalism and argues that one should remain
dispassionate in order to give an accurate account of events. Although more sensitive approach
seems appropriate while reporting on issues such as poverty, he states that journalists should still
try to remain objective (Quoted in Harcup, 2009: 92).
While reporting on poverty, the notion of objectivity should be used a guideline for journalists to
ensure accurate and realistic reporting rather than merely providing the readers with personal and
subjective ideas on the issue. Boyer (1981) suggested that objectivity can be defined as balancing
different sides of an issue and presenting all the significant points; separating facts from values, but
considering the values as relevant; minimising the influence of personal opinions, attitude or
involvement with the case; and finally avoiding any malicious, deceitful or slant purposes (Cited in
Watson, 1998: 98).
The coverage of poverty in the news includes a number of representations, which are not always an
accurate portrayal of the situation but often constitute facts and reinforce stereotypes. The general
understanding of global poverty for the public is derived from the media

13. Understanding Of Language And Consciousness
1.3 Connectionist understanding of language and consciousness One cognitive attempt to solve the
question is, perhaps, connectionism (e.g., Rumelhart McClelland, 1986) on the basis of pan
psychism view of consciousness (Chalmers). The Connectionist model is the idea that humans
learn language via gradual inter networked association of neural units to understand and produce
language. That is, human linguistic expression is possible because of the presence of various
networks of neural associations. In this framework, the meanings and knowledge in the linguistic
input are distributed across various neurons and the joint connection of each unit of neurons thus
yields into linguistic output. For example, a sentence such as Alex is a dog is stored as a set of
weights across many units, and these are sensitive to semantic content rather than the physical
symbols. Dog might be a pattern across networks of units which represent color, size, sound and
eating habits and so on. Then, a network which stores dog as a distributed pattern of color and size
features could find one set of weights which can represent other animals as well (McClelland,
Rumelhart, 1986). If this model is plausible, we could ascribe meaning and knowledge in the
linguistic input for artificial intelligencethe same way that humans learn language.
In order to attribute intentionality to artificial intelligence, one must determine whether such
intentionality can be phenomenally conscious, insofar

StrongAi can be possible as long it starts to create rules and not responses. (Words 49) Artificial
Inelegance topic has captivated the minds of researches and common people alike. The use of AI
comes into being as to try to understand our own brain and create a thinking machine. To begin the
topic, one must explain of john Searles arguments against what he calls StrongAI. Searles creates a
distinction between Strong Ai and Weak AI. While he has no issue with Weak Ai which is the idea

To go full circle on the first point we decided that machines must take into account the concept of
making rules and reflecting on past rules. The second point was to see how thinking and self
awareness is achieved at the height of the process of rulemaking. The concept of language and
symbols Searles is very important as an example as it sheds light on why machines can t ever be
human even with human brains as Searles claim they need to be a theoretical StrongAI.
Language was created by mapping things and association of learned objects. To truly learn a
language we have to understand and experience what it stands for. Language is an expression of
results based on tests on objects that are now definable. It is a shortcut for learning information.
Therefore it s important that AI does more than think in a correct pattern as our experience of
inputs comes from our interactions with one another and what we learn from language and not
on our own in solitude. The man the Chinese Room cannot have those things and therefore
cannot learn a language in the method he is prescribed. This wraps in the thoughts of the second
point as well to feel self aware we identify ourselves in relation to other people. This shows our
society is also one big brain that is made up of variety of rooms or people in this case all making

17. Rent Control
Governments set price controls in an attempt to solve social problems such as income inequality
leading to housing issues. Rent control is a law placing a maximum price, or a rent ceiling, on
what landlords can charge their tenants for renting out their properties (Block, 2008). The
maximum price is set so that there is affordable housing for lower income groups, meaning they
are not priced out of the market. In addition, this control would attempt to correct market
inefficiencies. Tenants could be pressured by landlords to accept rent increases as it is difficult
and expensive to move, or because they have complained, for example (Cruz, 2009). Without the
price ceiling policy, the market would be in equilibrium at price Pe and quantity Qe, as... Show

This can be used to portray the differences between short and long run quantity supplied in
relation to rent controls. As the price falls from p1 to p3, there is only a small change in the
number of rental houses supplied, from q1 to q3. This is due to the fact that in the short run
there are fixed factors, such as capital, that limit the ability to change. Whereas in the long run,
these factors are flexible and therefore there is a greater reduction of rental housing from q1 to
q2, even with a smaller price reduction from p1 to p2. As seen in Figure 1, and mentioned
earlier, as a result of the price ceiling, there is a less efficient allocation of scarce resources and
an even higher demand for these resources than before, creating a shortage of rental housing. This
shortage brings several issues. Firstly, by setting a price ceiling, the market cannot be in
equilibrium in the short run as demand cannot equal supply. In terms of welfare, less people would
be provided with housing they demand at the given price, compared to everyone receiving housing
who demands it at the given price in a natural

18. A Critique of Chapter 11 in Neil Postman s Technopoly Essay
A Critique of Chapter 11 in Neil Postman s Technopoly In chapter 11 (The Loving Resistance
Fighter) of the book Technopoly, published in 1992, Neil Postman focuses on a solution to the
problems created by Technopoly. A Technopoly (a word postman capitalizes throughout the book)
is a society that no longer merely uses technology as a support system but instead is shaped by it.
Postman proposes that we become loving resistance fighter(s) who retain the narratives and
symbols that once made the United States the hope of the world (p.182). He believes education is
to lead the resistance against technology by changing the curriculum to help restore a sense of
meaning and purpose lost to the Technopoly.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In chapter 11 Postman gives examples of people who resist the American Technopoly. An
example of a resistance fighter is a person who ignores a poll unless they know the questions
asked and why. As Postman introduced in chapter 8 ( Invisible Technologies ), the form of a
question can produce many different answers. It may also restrict us from seeing solutions to
problems that may become visible through a question worded differently. Postman shares the
story of two priests who write the Pope asking if it was allowable to smoke and pray at the same
time. One priest phrased the question Is it permissible to smoke while praying? and the
response was no because praying should be the focus of ones attention; the other priest asked Is
it permissible to pray while smoking? and the response was yes, since it is always appropriate to
pray. The opinion of almost any issue is a function of the question asked. In the American
Technopoly the opinion poll is a strict yes or no answer to an unexamined question. One is
therefore unable to share their knowledge and is easily mislead to answer a question in a certain
way. Another example of a resistance fighter is a person who does not allow psychology or any
social science to pre empt the language and thought of common sense. This example clearly relates
to chapter 9 ( Scientism ), in which Postman expresses his annoyance of the many people who have
a strong

Cultural Identity Culture plays a big part on how you are as a person. A person beliefs are made
up by their own unique cultural identity. Identity is what makes you who you are as person, and
how does it defines you. Your identity doesn t have to be just your ethnicity or how you look like, it
s way much more than that. While my culture is mixed with American and Asian aspects, Asian
culture is most influential in my life because it helps me be motivated in school, affect my views
on religion, and makes me have good deportment. Asian culture motivates me in school because
their expectations push me to a higher standard. Most Asian parents would only expect a 4.0
GPA from their kids, and nothing lower. Their beliefs are that, if you get high grades, you will
be successful. You could become a doctor, engineer, lawyer, and so much more. Unlike most
American cultures, making money is the most important thing to Asians. If you have the right
education, you would make a lot of money. With money, you could do anything, money is power.
My parents would always say that if you have money, no one would ever make fun of you. They
would give me life lessons, and compare me to other family members that are successful, and say
that I have to be exactly like them. They would also talk to me about their history. How tough it

In addition to the actual state of the restaurant the figure head of a fast food industry must also
capture the minds of potential consumer via a seemingly moronic yet intelligent and sentient being.
A perfect example of this would be the clown from McDonald s, his bizarre and inhuman looks
capturing the visual attention of the consumer while the mild mannered psychotic behavior both
tantalizes us and fills us with fear of the consequences of not consuming the double cheese
burger. Another prime example would be the burger king (view a commercial with the king and
all of this will make perfect sense) and his disturbing imagery and behavior, simply appearing at
your bed side offering flame broiled delights always with a exceedingly morbid and paralyzing
smile suggesting that the burgers are poisoned and that one will die as a result of eating them (of
course the commercial never shows the fate of the kings victim). In retrospect while it may appear
that the gimmicks themselves do not actually draw the consumer in the imagery mixed with their
events taking place seem to have captured and reeled in the consumers mind and thus achieved the
companies goal. The economic way is the only way: since the beginning of the fast food industry
there has always been one simplistic train of thought, yes its good but how do we make money

22. Flower Garden Banks National Marine Sanctuary Case Study
Only 100 miles off the coast of the Gulf of Mexico, there is a marine ecosystem teeming with
life. This ecosystem is called the Flower Garden Banks National Marine Sanctuary (FGBNMS).
FGBNMS is a coral reef that monitored and preserved by NOAA, the National Oceanic and
Atmospheric Administration. NOAA sees the FGBNMS as a valuable natural resource that we
need to protect. The intent of this memo is to identify the resources that FGBNMS provides, what
policies are in place to protect those resources, what effect these policies have had, and what
actions to take from this point forward. Fortunately, the policies regarding this natural resource are
accomplishing the goal of protecting this reef, so I do not recommend to many changes to the
existing policies, except for a few slight changes.
Resources that FGBNMS Provides
The resources provided by this coral reef can be categorized into one of three types: externalities,
public goods, and common pool goods. An externality can be understood as unintended impacts of a

The Relationship Between Morality and Religion In the Dalai Lama and John Pope II Perspective
The complexities on the issue of the relationship between religion and morality is intriguing in the
sense that there is no right or wrong answer, but merely your own intrinsic belief. The 14th Dalai
Lama, spiritual leader of Tibetan Buddhists, believes that you can t have religion without morals,
but you can have morals without religion. This seems to contrast with the view of John Paul II, in
the sense that he passionately believes that moral truth is governed by only God himself. To ask
about the good, in fact, ultimately means to turn towards God, the fullness of goodness. In this

Religion clearly influences your thoughts on issues in the world. If you chose to take time to
follow, believe and practice a religion, it s arduous to eradicate your principles when answering life
s questions unbiasedly.
Both leaders, John Paul II and the Dalai Lama, employ some of their religious tradition on their
view of the relationship between religion and morality. First, the Dalai Lama mentions, in Ethics for
the New Millennium, that his book is not about Buddhist ethics and is not a religious book. He
further emphasizes that he is looking more universally beyond religion and more into moral
spirituality. Although these statements might be true, anyone that has analyzed the basics of
Buddhist philosophies can evidently see the parallel between his views on everyday life ethics and
Buddhist ethics. For example, the Dalai Lama accents the basics of ethics as the desire for inner
peace and how to cope/prevent suffering from arising. In comparison, Buddhism teaches the four
noble truths, which is the central beliefs containing the essence of Buddhist teachings; it examines
the reason humans suffer and how to subsist it with happiness and unity. Since Buddhism is seen
more as a philosophy, or way of life, it is understandable that the Dalai Lama can easily speak about

Some schools require students to participate in volunteer programs in their community in order to
graduate. Is this reasonable? Students should not have to volunteer to receive their diploma. School
systems should not make student volunteer because it defeats the purpose of volunteering, students
may be incapable of volunteering, and they have already worked four years for their diploma.
The first reason students should not volunteer is because it defeats the purpose of volunteering. If
students are forced to do something they are not going to put in as much effort as they would if
they had decided to volunteer on their own. Volunteering is about helping people and if the students

Visual Effects Created By E.E. Cummings In His Poetry
Edward Estlin Cummings, commonly referred to as E. E. Cummings, was born on October 14,
1894 in Cambridge, Massachusetts. He was a source of vast knowledge and was responsible for
many creative works other than his poetry, such as novels, plays, and paintings. He published his
first book of poetry Tulips and Chimneys in 1923. Many of his poems are known for the visual
effects they create through his unusual placement of words on the page, as well as, his lack of
punctuation and capitalization. The manner in which Cummings arranges the words of his poems
creates an image in the reader s mind of the topic he is discussing, such as a season or climbing

The reader also obtains a visual effect when reading Cummings in Just . In this poem, the main
topic is springtime and the various aspects of that season. Cummings creates the words mud
luscious and puddle wonderful to provide the reader with images of spring from a child s
perspective. Adults would view mud and puddles as a negative aspect of spring, resulting from the
melting of snow and the showers that usually occur at that time of the year. However, by creating
these words, Cummings brings the reader back to their own childhood when mud and puddles were
wonderful aspects of spring.
In this same poem, Cumming also uses spacing to create an image in the reader s mind. For
example, he writes:
lame balloonman whistles far and wee (Cummings 21 22.)
The fact that the word far is separated from the other words in the line creates an image that the
whistling is in the distance. Additionally, he joins the names eddieandbill and bettyandisbel. This
illustrates that there is a togetherness that is usually found in spring because it is a time when
children play outside with their friends. By joining the names, the poet captures the manner in
which children, who are excited, speak by running their words together and leaving out syllables.
Spring is usually a time when people s

been seen as rebirth or immortality, as well as describing America and it s future after
depression. Phoenix Jackson s body, that is described, and her ethnicity are worth studying. At
this time in history, the nineteen thirties, being a woman and African American were both
downsides to what would have been desired: Caucasian and male. Phoenix Jackson s skin tone is
also described very differently as well, with patches of multi skin tone with blue rage eyes

multiple things. Like many rebirthing that of a phoenix (mythical bird, that rebirth in a fireball,

Manliness is a quality in life not only for man, but for woman as well. Many tend to seek
manliness in the male gender role, yet what one does not realize is women often play a large role
just as much. Often defined as a set of attributes and behaviors constructed mainly with men, but
often enough with women, manliness or masculinitycan affect the inner personality of any human
being. As we take a deeper look into the lines of William Shakespeare s Macbeth, different
qualities of manliness is widely spread across the board. From Lady Macbeth to King Duncan and
the Witches to Macbeth, we see a very distinct value of manliness portrayed throughout all. With
such being said, the true definition of manliness or masculinity will never had a clear... Show more

But underlying those associations we experience more of an inner hidden quality of chivalry or
being heroic. Throughout the play, we see a change in the way characters reveal their innermost
feelings towards certain situations. Every character wants to be a hero or wants to be the one
everyone fears and looks up to. Personally, I think chivalry and heroism play a very important
role for being a man in any day in time. Both King Duncan and Macbeth are seen as chivalric but
in different ways. With chivalry being a quality of manliness, such is brought on by how one can
handle their true emotions and actions not only with themselves but with others. Furthermore,
the most problematic character of chivalry is seen to be Macbeth. As the play grows strong,
Macbeth was once seen to be a manly man with strong moral and stable values. As seen early on
in the meeting with King Duncan, Duncan awards Macbeth as being the Worthy Cawdor for
being so chivalric in battle (I. vi. 34 58). Once he is convinced to murder Duncan and has his
mindset changed by his spouse, Macbeth starts to fall. Chivalry is a trait or quality in which a man
must earn and learn to control, but seeing how much negative chivalry changed Macbeth really
resembles the magnitude of how much a man can be unstable. As Maria Howell puts it, Heroic
vales destabilize man s inner coherence so that he can no

Considering both instances in the two sources, the commentary they make of the male s initial
emotional response to romantic emotion evoked by a strong attraction to a female suggests a
largely verbal and dramaticized response, often toward appearance first. In the song Michelle,
the narrator relies only verbal expression. He sings, Sont les mots qui vont trГЁs bien ensemble...
I will say the only words I know that you ll understand (Doc. 1). This shows that the narrator
makes extra effort to verbally communicate with the woman, suggesting he does this because he
feels he must, as he sees no other ways of communication. Romeo, in Shakespeare s The Tragedy
of Romeo and Juliet, is dramatic in his portrayal of Juliet. He declares, O, she doth teaches the
torches to burn bright! (Romeo and Juliet. 1.5.44). This demonstrates his dramaticity through the
use of metaphor, as Juliet does not teach torches to emit light, but rather she appears to emit more
light than a torch in Romeo s perspective, which is an overstatement in this case. Romeo also
makes much commentary on Juliet s appearance. He exclaims, Beauty too rich for use, for earth
too dear!

The Tragedy of the North Atlantic Cod Fisheries
In the 1600s, due to the abundance of cod fish in the North Atlantic waters, commercial cod

However, as people increasingly relied on fisheries to make lucrative profits, the cod fish population

It seems that a more effective non technical solution is mutual coercion to set up strong
government regulations and use technical solutions to aid mutual coercion. The Tragedy of the
Commons , according to Hardin, is a societal problem arising from individuals depleting shared
resources (1968, pg 1243). Hardin s commons are the limited resources shared by society that are
not regulated. In commercial cod fisheries, the commons is the fishing ground, or the ocean. The
tragedy of the commons refers to a dilemma individuals, maximizing their own utility, could
collectively cause the depletion of common resources. This is because assuming that humans are
self interested rational beings, every individuals interest is to maximize their own gain by
exploiting public resources, while the collective interest is to use the resources sustainably.
Likewise, in commercial cod fisheries, the individual s interest is to catch as many fish as
possible to maximize profit. Yet, the collective interest is to fish at a level sustainable for cod fish
to reproduce, so that not only our generation, but also our future generations will not run out of
cod. Since we have hardly resolved the gap between individual interest and collective interest, the
problem persists. This gap has already led to devastating consequences. In 2015, the cod stock in
the Gulf of Maine is at 18 percent of what scientists deem to be a healthy population.

The Argyle s Communication Cycle Theory:
The Argyle s communication cycle theory is process commonly used in the health and social care
sector to explain how communication can be effective, this is a theory in which can enable a
person to understand what is being said or wrote, and to be able to respond to the conversation
appropriately. This theory has six stages and these include;
Stage one of the Argyle is when the idea is thought of by the communicator, and include them to
adapt their words and expressions to match the audience the conversation is for; e.g. the elderly;
we may have to talk louder as some elderly people (Or some young people/adults with hearing

and fewer words, the body language used should be calm and inviting and voices should be calm
and gentle rather than tense, or even a work colleague; will need to have clear communication

matter of waiting to be found. I am just not so sure about that. How can a person know and keep
track of all the islands in the world? Our chance of being saved is slim. If we do not have a
signal fire and rules, I believe we do not stand a chance in getting rescued. On a more positive
note, I was finally useful today. The boys used my specs to start the fire on the mountain.
Although I could not help collect wood because of my asthma, I at least was the one who
enabled the fire to happen. Piggy Day Ten Jack and his hunters lost our chance of being saved
today. I have never felt this irritated before. I could be on my way home right now but no, Jack
and his hunters could not keep the fire going. They could not handle one simple task. They were
so caught up in the adrenaline of hunting a pig that nobody cared about returning home. Jack s
priorities need to be straightened out, but I do not want to be the one who does it. Jack hates me
and finds every opportunity to show it. I am so grateful for Simon. He gave me a piece of his
meat after Jack punched me in the stomach and broke my specs. Simon, unlike most of the boys on

41. Boys and Girls by Alice Munro
Society tries to place many rules upon an individual as to what is acceptable and what is not .
One must decide for themselves whether to give in to these pressures and conform to society s
projected image, or rather to resist and maintain their own desired self image. In the story Boys
and Girls by Alice Munro, Munro suggests that this conflict is internal and external and a persons
experiences in life will determine which of these forces will conquer. In terms of the unnamed
protagonist s experiences in the story, it becomes clear just how strong the pressure of society to
conform really is, as it overcomes and replaces the girls self image.
In order to better understand the conflict, first we must define what conformity and self ... Show

Although seemingly unimportant to the storyline, the presence of the foxes and horses play a
major role in the story, as they symbolize the sides of the conflict between conformity and self
image. The foxes represent conformity; they all live in the same routine, are controlled by others
in their environment, and are both literally and metaphorically locked in a cage. The narrator s
environment is much like the foxes, controlling. Her parent s subtle hints, whether it be her mother
s comments or her father s tasks, are slowly but surely enclosing on her like a cage, and will soon
trap her.
The horses however, try as hard as they can, much like the narrator, to roam free for as long as
possible, seemingly unaware of the forces acting against them in an attempt to deny them their
freedom. For the horses, this force was the narrator s father, who felt that they had a purpose to
be served, in the narrator s case, it was her mother s thought that she had a place to be served as
well; inside the home. In the case of the foxes and horses, neither win, as they both die in the end,
much like people. However, although the horse s lives end much sooner, they get to experience
something that the foxes do not, and that is freedom. The protagonist s desire for freedom is
clearly desirable as she expresses her resistance to conform to societies ideals by continuing to do
things against the norm, thinking that by such measures [she] kept

42. Forced Confession In The Crucible
The Use of Forced Confession in The Crucible
According to Revolvy, A forced confession is a confession obtained by a suspect or a prisoner
under means of torture ( including enhanced interrogation techniques) or other forms of duress.
There are different aspects of forced torture. Physical and psychological torture are both used to
force a confession. Physical force in the USA is rare during a confession because it has been
outlawed (Redich). Many people will confess the truth if they are innocent because they have been
coerced or they believe that it will be more beneficial to confess than to maintain their innocence
(Innocence Project). In The Crucible by Arthur Miller, there are many instances of forced
confession. Throughout The Crucible, multiple people are accused of being a witch. When the
public and church thought someone was a witch, the person had two options. They could confess
and say that they were a witch or they could be hung and die. This brings up the question, how
does force confession affect the people in The Crucible?
Physical force can be effective in getting people to confess, but there is no evidence suggesting that
the information gained from physical force is considered reliable and effective (Redich). This is
because the victims understand that the physical force will not stop unless they confess
information. Through the pain, some of the information may be accurate, but it will almost always
be tied with inaccurate and misleading

43. Soundwave Nightclub Fire Research Paper
Two people dead and 37 people were injured last night in a fire in a nightclub in Florida. The fire
was caused by sparks from a ceiling fan, the Volusia Country Fire Department said. The fire
happened around midnight, and roughly 200 people were inside the Soundwave nightclub,
which opened in 2003 and has never had an incident before. The two victims, David Gibson and
Elizabeth Oxley, were died from smoke inhalation and most injuries were injured by trampling
each other when the fire happened. Soundwave installed new ceiling fans one week ago, the
police will investigate if the ceiling fans are the reason of the fire. Twelve injured people have
been hospitalized but none of the 37 injuries are believed to be life threatening. This is a

Adama Orr 10/ 7 /15Description of Art Broken Eggs by artist Jean Baptiste Greuze, in 1756,
breaks away from most of the standards of the Rococo period. A flat mid size painting, similar in
size to other paintings of the era, along with its framing; a golden color carved frame giving it a
three dimensional appear. Painted using oil on canvas as other paints, rather than bright pastels,
deeper earth tones are used. As well as a lack of decoration, the back ground made up of a small
living arrangement. A stone wall and wood paneling make up the main structure of the building;
with a small dirty window as the only source of light. Shining little light on the small wooden table,

Since this is generally a problem for all types of families in every economic class, the most
impactful factor regarding the lack of preparation for this issue is probably a lack of intentional

The every day struggle of trying to find your path in life can consume the mind into an over focus
on the ever present now. This persistent focus on living for today can often skew one s perspective
on future concerns, such as saving and investing for the future, not only for retirement, but for end

Chemistry has affected people for years. It will always be a major component in how life
progresses. We use chemistry every day when we cook. We use it every day when simply brushing
our teeth. Toothpaste contains Fluorine. It is a very intense aggressive and reactive element. It is
the substance in toothpaste that whitens our teeth. As you can see there are many things that
chemistry contributes to. Chemistry is a big component of the formation of different medicines.
Without chemistry medicines I have had to take would not even exist. I recently had to take

I just wanted to stop and relax but I felt like I could not. Anxiety is a strong emotion that takes
over many people when they become overwhelmed with tasks or issues in their lives. Without
chemistry I would have not been able to have the medicine that I needed.
There are many other ways to cope with anxiety than medicine. However some people don t have
the time so medicine can be a really amazing thing. Some people including my brothers went to
therapists. Some do yoga, breathing methods, and just talking to people. Anxiety can get out of
hand quickly. When It gets out of hand it can become a very dangerous cycle. Although
Lorazepam can be very helpful, it can also harm people. Just like every other medicine it has
many possible side effects. It can cause depression, hypotension, shortness in breath, dizziness,
and weakness. It can also cause severe respiratory failure. If you take it when you are pregnant it
can kill the baby and cause issues when it comes to breast feeding. It has many issues however it
is usually not fatal when people overdose. Ativan can be a highly aggressive and addictive drug.
It is recommended to only take only for two to four weeks. The medicine stays in your system for
eighteen to thirty six hours. Withdrawals from the medicine can cause seizures, insomnia and more
intense anxiety. It can be injected, ingested in pill form, or worn in form of skin patches. The

letters, glue, and small squares of plywood, he created the game at his kitchen table. At first, he
called it Lexiko, then Criss Cross Words. He sold sets that he made himself for $1.50. By 1935,
though, the game hadn t caught the interest of a manufacturer, so the inventor went back to work

Given the weakness related with BPD side effects, it isn t amazing that people with BPD are

55. Batman And Beowulf Comparison
In the last 50 years, countless heroes have been created or shown through film. One of the most
interesting, modern, fictional heroes that we have seen is the Batman played by Christian Bale,
otherwise known as the Dark Knight in the Dark Knight series. Even after more than a thousand
years since the creation of the epic poem Beowulf, similar characteristics of the character Beowulf
are still seen in fictional heroes such as Batman. Although on the surface Beowulf and Batman seem
very different, many of their basic characteristics are very similar including their motivation, the
people that doubted them, their love for their homeland, and the personal sacrifices that they made
for the greater good. This juxtaposition is proof that humans throughout history have gone through
the same thought process when creating their heroes.
One of the many similarities between Batman and Beowulf is their origins. Batman and Beowulf
alike were born and raised in the city/kingdom that he aimed to protect. Because of this similarity,

In Batman this is more true than in Beowulf, but nonetheless, the archetype remains strong in both
stories. In Beowulf, only one person, a man named Unferth, seems to truly doubt the hero when he
questions his past successes. This dubious man is soon silenced by a simple conversation where
Beowulf proves him wrong. This aspect of both heroes definitely seems to be more complicated
with Batman. Instead of only one or a few people expressing serious doubt in Batman s ability, it
is almost the entire city that expresses concern. Batman only has a few people that believe in him
including Commissioner Gordon, Batman s butler Alfred, and a few citizens of Gotham. Despite
their differences, Batman and Beowulf both contain one of the key elements in a hero s story;
people who try to pull them down, and the people who express nothing but

Halfway through every year we are expected to go on an excursion. This year s excursion was to
Mangalo Prison. Mangalo prison was famous in our town as people believed criminals left there
evil spirits behind in there, that and the fact it was nearly a hundred years old was the only
reason why it still existed. Finding a seat on the school bus was like a hierarchy, you know,
popular people at the back, nerds at the front and then there s the loser who sits next to the bus
driver. I didn t mind sitting next to the bus driver, I suppose after seven years you get to know
