2. We communicate with our eyes than with any other part of our anatomy People tend to believe what your face tells them rather than the words they hear The focal point of the face is the eyes since they reveal the most information

3. Eye Contact Plays an important role in paving the way of communication as well as building trust. One of the non-verbal ways to: Express liking/intimacy (we look more at people we like) Exercise control (we look longer to be more persuasive) Regulate interaction (direct conversations) Provide mood and character information (attentiveness, competence, credibility, liking and disengagement)

4. Gaze Behaviour A speaker will look away from time to time and then go back to eye contact to ensure the person is still listening and check from their eyes that they are still interested and understand the gist of what is being said.

Gaze Behaviour (Cont) A listener displays that they are interested in a conversation by looking at the person much more frequently If confused about something that has been said or if they disagree with it, or when distracted, or just bored by the encounter, the listener will make minimal eye contact If the listener is looking away all the time then something serious has occurred; a complete breakdown of attention

6. Where to Look (1) Strangers In formal situations, you should look between the person’s forehead and eyes. If you look below this range, then this may alter the formality or the seriousness of the discussion

7. Where to Look (2) Social Level (Friends) On a social level, the gaze falls below the other person’s eyes level (between nose and mouth)

8. Where to Look (3) Intimate Level (Romantic Relationships) When men and women want to show that they are interested, the gaze traverses the eyes and goes below the chin to other parts of the body

9. Some Good Looking Tips You should not stare at any person (seems abnormal or sometimes, threatening). Therefore, your eye-contact should be intermittent. A-few-seconds-longer-than-usual look shows that the listener is interested in the speaker. Widening your eyes and raising your eyebrows show signs of attention and interest. Always smile at people in the first look. This is very important for good first impression. A genuine smile is identifiable by upward mouth corners with crinkling eyes.
