Erving Goffman s Presentation Of Self In Everyday Life
Erving Goffman was a Canadian born sociologist and writer. He was made a president of the
American Sociological Association. His best known involvement and contribution to the social
sciences is his theory of symbolic interaction and dramaturgy, which began with his 1959 book The
Presentation of Self in Everyday Life. This report explains that individuals have the ability to choose
their stage, the character they play, and the costume they wear in specific social situations (Goffman,
1959). He also worked with the total institution model, and used it to construct his studies, mostly in
Asylums. A total institution is a residence and workplace for similar people, who are cut off from the
wider society for an amount of time, and who altogether, lead an enclosed form of life (Frank, 2002).
This ties in with his next book about mental institutions, where he theorized that if people are treated,
as they are a societal burden and placed in an institution with others, they ... Show more content on

He describes how the institution associates people into the role of a good patient , who is someone that
is blindly obedient, dull, harmless and inconspicuous (Goffman, 1961). He describes how the
debilitating environment in the institutions affect individuals perception of self worth, no matter how
therapeutic or non therapeutic a hospital and program is (Pilgrim and Rogers, 2008). People come
from their own social frameworks, where they occupy diverse roles. When institutionalized, these
individuals are stripped of their sense of themselves leading to what Goffman described as
disculturation (Davidson et, al. 2011). Instead of treating mental health as an illness, disculturation
leads to demoralization, deterioration, and leaves people virtually incapable of managing their own
lives in the real world , which leaves them requiring to remain institutionalized (Davidson et, al.

Essay on The American Obesity Epidemic
More die in the United States of too much food than of too little ― John Kenneth Galbraith Why are
Americans getting bigger by the day? And what s so bad about that anyway? Studies have shown that
there are many negative effects associated with obesity. Obesity has been accused of contributing to
many long term conditions, such as heart disease, stroke, high blood pressure, osteoarthritis, diabetes
and cancer (Pennybacker 15). Along with the fact that obesity is the most common form of
malnutrition in the Western world, it also affects sixty four percent of Americans (Pennybacker 15;
Brownell 1). Obesity is one of today s most visible, yet neglected conditions affecting more
Americans each day. According to the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Many people sit all day in an office, and do not get much physical activity at all. The conveniences
and technology of today contribute to a very sedentary lifestyle for much of the population. According
to Food Fight, one study found that 23 percent of all deaths from major chronic disease could be
attributed to sedentary lifestyle (Brownell 70). The lack of exercise is one of the main causes of
obesity in the United States. Another possible contribution to obesity, which is still in the process of
being further researched, is genetics. According to the Office of Genomics Disease Prevention, studies
indicate that inherited genetic variation is an important risk factor for obesity. It was also pointed out
that genetic factors are starting to be questioned in the degree of effectiveness of diet and physical
activity interventions for weight reduction (Obesity and Genetics I). Learning how genetic variations
effect obesity will make it much easier to prevent and treat the condition of obesity. In addition to the
many different causes of obesity, fast food receives much of the blame. With the continual growth of
the fast food industry in the United States, obesity is becoming a bigger problem everyday. The
connection between fast food and obesity is one of the primary criticisms in the book, Fast Food
Nation, written by Eric Schlosser. Due to the high calorie, high fat food choices offered at many

Paul Revere´s Ride The poem of Paul Revere gives false information about Paul Revere and his ride.
They got a lot of information wrong like they did not mention the other two guys. Which there were
two other guys that had to do with it also. The poem mentioned that there were lanterns that show the
path of the troops. But the lanterns did not represent the path of the troops it actually represented that
paul revere was on his way to warn the people about the british troops. The poem does not tell how the
ride ends. But the truth tells how it ends and what Paul Revere stood for. Paul Revere stood for the end

The History of the Seminole War in Florida
Throughout history there has been many wars that had taken place.
Wars happen because societies can come across conflict, different opinions, or simply people on
country may be interested in anothers land or resources. A war that can relate to this is the second
Seminole War which first began in the 19th century. This war started because of discrimination over
the Native American people and the drive to have them relocate for their land.
After many attempts and one war before the second seminole war America realized they really need to
demand changes and take action. The European Americans, American government and President
Andrew Jackson felt that it was necessary to relocate the Seminoles from North of Lake Okeechobee
to the west of the Mississippi river. The whites had intentions to remove all seminoles just so they can
have the rich soil. Andrew Jackson decided to take action and divide Florida into two counties.
What was once known to be West Florida was suddenly called Escambia county and what was once
known as Easy Florida was know St. Johns County. Andrew Jackson had suddenly left Pope DuVal to
be the Florida leader. Once he became the leader of florida, it was officially known as territory on
March, 30, 1822. When northern settlers started intertwining with the Seminoles they did not get
along. President Jackson felt it was best to relocate the Indians.

My job is also unpredictable. An emergency could come up at any time. If an emergency occurs in the
middle of the night; I am expected to attend to it. Thankfully, this does not occur very often. At this
point because of staff turnover; among other things, I have a never ending pile of work on my desk. I
realize that I cannot finish everything in one day. To combat my pile of work, I wake up early and go
in to work before most employees get there. It is very quiet and I can get a large amount of work done
without much interruption. Although I could work from dusk until dawn and still not be finished, I
have to choose a place to stop so that I can go home and tend to other obligations. Because I come in
early, I can leave earlier so that I am able to be home at the same time as my family. This way I can eat
dinner with them before I begin my schoolwork. At home, some of my housework suffers because of
my schoolwork. I am still getting into a routine, and I know that I will perfect it as time goes on. I
prefer to make sure that all of my school obligations are met earlier in the week if possible so that I
can enjoy the weekend with my family and do any housework that I have neglected during the week.
Of course, this is not always possible, but I think that if I can get the majority of my work done during
the week; I will not have to worry so much about the weekends.

Identity And Identity In The Whore s Child By Richard Russo
The Whore s Child is a famous short story by Richard Russo. The story follows the life of a nun,
Sister Ursula, as she joins a college fiction writing course and begins writing her life story. As she
writes, with the help of her professor and the feedback from her class, she discovers more about
herself and the truth about her life. A key element of this story is the depth to which the characters are
explored, given the limited amount of time for characterization. A primary way to explore this
characterization is through the works of prominent identity theorists one of which being Canary et al.
This theory talks about some of the ways that identity is developed, through concepts such as social
cognition, schema, and the four cognitive ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Another key aspect of Canary s theory is that of the four cognitive processes stereotypes, attributions,
person perception, and interpersonal goals. According to Canary, stereotypes are when categories are
about people and are based on their group membership (Canary 114). In Russo s story, Sister Ursula
writes about how, as a child, she understood that her mother s being a prostitute made her the whore s
child, that her mother s wickedness diminished her father s value (8). This excerpt from Sister Ursula s
story establishes how the negative stereotypes around her mother s lifestyle impacted her childhood.
Even today, prostitution is considered dishonorable in society, especially within religious circles, and
thus, Sister Ursula s mother s stigma was attached to her as a child, which caused her to be inherently
disliked in the nun community. Again, this could be a contributing factor to Sister Ursula s cold and
steadfast demeanor, as she had to grow up protecting herself from the judgmental gazes of her
superiors and peers. Attributions are the next facet of the four cognitive processes that can be seen in
The Whore s Child. They are defined as assessments of the cause of an action or behavior, (Canary
111) and can be both internal and external. Internal meaning that the behavior is attributed to qualities
such as

The Theme Of Inequality In A Connecticut Yankee In King...
In a Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur s court, Mark Twain sets the plot of the story in the 19th
century in Connecticut. After Hank Morgan is struck by a crowbar, he wakes up 13 centuries that are
in the past. In the event, a night from the court of King Arthur takes him prisoner as King Arthur
orders his execution. Hank becomes the prime minister to the king by escaping execution through
predicting that an eclipse will block the sun if he is executed (Lupack 162). Throughout this story, the
theme of inequality is evident especially since social inequality and injustice is highlighted throughout
the narrative. In one instance, Hank visits a village which is full of peasants who are dressed
wretchedly. There is a clear disparity between the life in the royal court and that which is lived by
peasants in the field.
Discussion
The theme of inequality starts to develop in the first chapter where the peasants are depicted to be
living in conditions, which are regarded to be wretched. These peasants only have scant clothing and
the children are required by law to walk bare without any garments. Furthermore, the peasants live in
filthy spaces, and they eat poor food. Iron collars are put on the peasant as an indication of slavery
which is rampant among the common population (Hasty 22). The deplorable condition of the peasants
sharply contradicts the life of the knights and the inhabitants of the royal court. In the royal court,
there is a parade of knights residing in the

What was Stravinsky trying to accomplish with The Rite of Spring? Why did he include so much

choreography too was unconventional; the audience, used to the long and graceful lines of classical

Question1
The achievement motive emphasized the notion that links the personality traits and social background
check of a person with his or her level of need for achievement. David McClelland stressed that the
need for achievement is an apparent human motive that can be distinguished from other needs. He
believed that the achievement motivated people, do not turn down rewards but the rewards are not
important as the accomplishment itself (Bernstein, 2006).
Motivation is based on the individual s emotions and the achievement related goals. The achievement
motivation is aimed at attaining success and achieving all of our ambitions in life. As a result of this
the achievement goals can influence our natural behaviour (Rochester Institute, 2005).
Situational factors also affect achievement behaviour. The search for achievement is likely to increase
when the possibility of success and the incentive value of success are high (Rochester Institute, 2005).
This can be attributed to the following reasons:
a) As duties get easier, success becomes more fulfilling and as tasks get harder success becomes less
fulfilling.
b) Reasonably challenging tasks seem to offer the best overall worth in terms of maximizing the
person s sense of accomplishment.
c) People differing in their desires to avoid failure, emphasizes that emotion and motivation are
interweaved.

Retail Possums Research Paper
The use of 1080 poison to control possums within New Zealand has been quite a big biological issue
over the years. The bushtail possums were introduced to New Zealand in 1837 for the fur trade by
Australia. This poison is commonly used in New Zealand to target the control of the possum
population as well as other invasive rodents, as these pest eat vulnerable native animals such as, birds,
lizards and insects, but this poison is highly toxic for deer, and dogs. Minimizing the number of
possums mean that the agriculture and forestry to will be able to thrive more. Possums themselves don

has now caused human involvement to help control the issue. Biological concepts and processes 1080

Evolution of Hip-Hop
Evolution of Hip Hop From where it started to where it is now, Cuban hip hop has transformed
greatly. Without the United States, hip hop in Cuba certainly would not be where it is today. The
United States is the hub of hip hop and helped to jumpstart hip hop in Cuba. While this is true, hip hop
in the United States completely differs from that of Cuba for the better. Even though hip hop in Cuba
did not start from much, the amount of development and influence this music has towards Cuba is
immeasurable. Around 1970, 44 years ago, hip hop emerged in the West Bronx of New York. The
culture of hip hop incorporates many aspects besides just the music itself, such as DJing, graffiti,
breakdancing, and urban fashion. Hip hop mainly started from DJ s separating the break in rock, funk
and other types of songs, as well as the MC playing a major role in the development of hip hop. In
between the songs that the DJ was playing, the MC would speak in between the songs, make jokes and
many other actions in order to get the crowd riled up. This eventually led up to the practice of hip hop
to become more conventional, resulting in the forming of hip hop. Kool DJ Herc did all of this in
1970, who is believed to be the one who started the emergence of hip hop. At first, DJ Herc would
deliver rhymes over reggae track; however, this did not engage people s attention enough. Because the
people were not engaged, DJ Herc had to find another way to satisfy the audience, which came from

Reflection Of Music In This Little Light Of Mine
Music is defined as the vocal or instrumental sounds (or both) combined in such a way as to produce
beauty of form, harmony, and expression of music. What truly exemplifies this definition is the
performance entitled This Little Light of Mine in which performers, Donald Craig Manuel and
Charles Lloyd Jr, took the stage to deliver a beautiful duo that s consisted of Mr. Manuel s Baritone
voice and Mr. Lloyd s performance on the piano. Mr. Donald Manuel performed twelve compositions
in which ten of them were sacred pieces that expressed how much he loved the Lord and the other four
were taken from major events he performed for such as: Festival of the Lion King at Hong Kong
Disneyland, major productions abroad the Disney Dream, and musical numbers from popular Disney
films. Even though each of these pieces were different in context they had numerous similarities such
as: all of them being polyphonic, crescendo and decrescendo were used extensively, dynamics were
used frequently, each piece was set to a walking tempo (Andante), each piece had the qualities of an
opera, and he used vibrato in all his compositions. Even though all his performed pieces were
brilliantly performed, the three compositions that stood out to me were: Ride on King Jesus by Hall
Johnson, This Little Light O Mine by John Work, and Be prepared by E. John and T. Rice. The first
piece that was performed, Ride of King Jesus, is a sacred, polyphonic piece that was performed in
Low D flat in quadruple meter.

Comparison Of Apology And Phaedo By Plato
Philosophy, according to Oxford Dictionary, is the study of the general and fundamental nature of
reality and language. Therefore, philosophy is an understanding of ourselves and the world around us,
it is the knowledge one is willing to attain simply for the sake of knowing and being aware.
Literally meaning love of wisdom , philosophy is very significant in our lives as it encourages one to
better understand themselves through questioning and look past what one has been told in order to
attain greater knowledge. This further leads one to be humble, honest and think critically. Overall,
philosophy enables one to grow and develop as a person. This is conveyed to us by Plato s Apology

me to effectively communicate my thoughts as I feel confident In the conclusion I reach by reasoning.
Thus, philosophy is significant for us today as it allows one to not only think, but effectively

communication, he easily conveys his views by use of simple language simply due to philosophy and
the belief he has in his understanding. It is his confidence which guides him in both dialogues: Phaedo

though they didn t exist. After witnessing a cockfight and running away just like the Balinese people
who also attended, however, Geertz and his wife were treated as though they were Balinese
themselves, and were completely accepted into Balinese society. In the second section, Of Cocks and
Men , Geertz reflects on different aspects of Balinese culture and how Balinese men, despite
cockfighting being illegal, strongly identify with it and even use the term to refer to different types of
men and their personalities. Additionally, Geertz points out that besides cockfighting, the Balinese are

Case, for example, having once been a talented console cowboy, is now a useless, washed up has

from him. He had become dependent on the trill of using the technology for his own advantages,
unable to utilize and benefit from it any more, he is now lost, miserable and feels imprisoned in his
own flesh. For Case, who d lived for the bodiless exultation of cyberspace, it was the Fall. In the bars
he d frequented as a cowboy hotshot, the elite stance involved a certain relaxed contempt for the flesh.
The body was meat. Case fell into the prison of his own flesh (Gibson, 1984, p. 3). Case would do
anything to get back the access of using the technology that he has become accustomed and extremely
dependent on, even if it meant giving up his own free will. Gibson foresaw this as a possibility in what
could happen in the future with technology and what is actually happening now. In the real 21st
century world we currently live in, technology has become more than just a tool, it has become a part
of us as we rely on it literally every day. For example, the mobile phone with GPS (Global Positioning

Northern Colonies Vs South Colonies Essay
In the 1600s, England was eager to beat their long rival, Spain, to all of the rumored gold in North
America. Britain had long wanted to be better and more powerful than Spain, so when Spain started
settling colonies in America, England was quick to follow their lead. It all began when Britain gave a
charter to the Virginia Company to establish a colony, and after that charter the British settled more
and more of America. Even though all these colonies were established by Britain, there were many
major differences between the Northern colonies and the Southern colonies. The North was much
more diverse than the South because of its many job opportunities and attractive ideals that brought in
settlers from all over Europe. The Northern colonies ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This lack of openings was caused by the South s main source of labor: slaves. In the south, the
geography was perfect for an agricultural economy; there was fertile soil, long growing seasons, and
deep rivers for easy transport of crops. The South s economy was based on the trade of cash crops
such as tobacco, and these cash crops were grown on large plantations. People who lived in the
southern colonies were all about making money, so that meant they did not want to waste any extra
expenses on paid labor. This caused them to turn to slave labor. In the South, almost everybody had
slaves, and the slaves were treated very badly. They did not need to be paid or given any rewards for
their work, so to the money hungry southern colonists, they were the perfect laborers. These slaves
caused a large problem for immigration though. Because all the jobs were taken by slaves, there were
no job openings for immigrants around Europe like there was in the South. The only people who could
prosper in the South were wealthy white men who could own plantations. The South also did not have
the bonus of having religious tolerance like the North; in fact they rarely focused on religion because
they were only interested in making money. Because of the lack of jobs, the South was not very

The Characters Of Professor Van Helsing And Count Dracula
Stoker produced two eccentric characters of opposite conflicts that were rather identical in their means
of doing. Professor Van Helsing and Count Dracula were the main identities in Stoker s Dracula
because they both represented areas of strict morals such as good and evil, respectively. Although the
two men present rather general characteristics of their due morals, Stoker also gave subtle
commonalities to them. Although Dracula happens to be the evil of the story, it can also be presumed
that he may be the good while Van Helsing is the bad. Even though Stoker indicates that the characters
remain in their set of morals, both of them presume to acquire each other s attributes, furthermore.
Van Helsing and Dracula represent the two sides of humanity in a rather vital way; Stoker used both
men as individuals but with the overall sense of completion. Whereas one represents what is thought
to be holy while the other evil, it is rather ambiguous that this is so. Stoker provides context within his
characters however, which provides them with similarities usually disguised as faults. The Professor
and the Count are quite indistinguishable because of how Stoker portrays them as two sides to one
coin thus allowing each to have their own distinction whilst obtaining similar convictions. Their
characters are rather interchangeable since they both exhibit: determination towards their overall goal,
strength in times of other s weakness, and influential capabilities over others.

However, in later chapters she shows herself to be capable, brave and self reliant, struggling against
multiplying disasters, which have their origins in her earlier immaturity. Her deficiency in maturity
leads her into two disastrous relationships, namely with Mr Boldwood and with Troy. The author
makes it clear that Bathsheba s character includes both fine feelings and faults. By the end of the novel
she reveals an inner strength by being able to endure Troy and Fanny being buried together, and she
recognizes her need for the love of Gabriel, who has remained loyal and steadfast.

However, despite all of Gabriel s good qualities, Bathsheba rejects his offer of marriage, because of

Implementation Of The Current Process Workflow
4. Lack of a Full Analysis of the Current Process Workflow
Perform a time in motion study of all parts of the current production workflow process
Issue: While CanGo is attempting to use process mapping, those reviewing production efficiencies
lack the professional expertise and knowledge of process control practices. The flowcharting is
incomplete, and lacks a full analysis of all systems involved to truly understand where the defects lie
and areas of improvements can be made beyond implementing a new system that is above the
company s potential fiscal budget.
Instead of an actual time in motion study or an analysis of the process workflow, CanGo management
had an employee that does not perform the work, walk the system with the use of a pedometer. This
tracking tool only tracked the number of her footsteps and is not a credible evaluation tool of the
process, for time, efficiency, defects, and opportunity.
Recommendation: Resource an outside firm to conduct a full analysis of the CanGo s in house
production workflow process. As previously identified within the prior report, the firm would first
need to perform a S.W.O.T. analysis after interviewing with the management staff to identify CanGo s
wants vs. needs. This low level analysis helps to save time and money when reviewing the efficiencies
of CanGo as a whole, additionally, the firm is the subject matter expert and is not vested in the internal

Comparison Of My Math Strengths And Weaknesses
My Math Strengths and Weaknesses
As I am approaching the end of my educational career, it is time for me to evaluate how well I will do
teaching a subject I struggled in elementary school, math. Math is a subject I had a love hate
relationship with. I liked it when I was good and hated it when I struggled. I noticed this pattern not
only because of my abilities, but also of my teacher s abilities to teach the subject. My goal is not to be
a genius in math but I do want to be able to help and problem solve when my students have a struggle.
From kindergarten to the beginning of 1st grade, the math topic that is worked on is addition and
subtraction. According to the Texas Education Association, in kindergarten adding and subtraction ...

TEA say that students start doing repeated addition toward the end of second grade to help them
transition to multiplication in third grade (TEA, 2012). When I was in school I struggled in
multiplication, but I did not give up. What helped me get better was practice until I was able to master
each multiplication term. With the takeover of calculators, I became rusty, but in order to teach my
students, I will have to practice again just like when I was in elementary school. I also have to be
ready to take a step back and go over addition although the TEKS says to move on to multiplication.
I excel in shapes, and for elementary, shapes are taught all through out. In first grade the focus is to
identify and classifying 2 dimension shapes. In second grade they move on to composing their own 2
dimensional figure and classify 3 dimensional figures. (TEA, 2017.) For students just starting to see
shapes only know square and rectangle. There are far more variations of this common shapes like
parallelograms, and they might get confused. What I will do to prepare myself to teach these students
is create vocabulary in my mind that is at their level. This way I can further explain the formal
definition if there is any confusion.
We all struggle with word problems, but since I am going to be a teacher I don t have to be perfect but
I do need to have a sense of problem solving. What I would do to help me teach word problems is

Taking A Gap Year Essay
Take the gap year Every year there are millions of students who graduate high school and the majority
will go to college. According to the United States Bureau of Labor Statistics, Of the 3.0 million youth
age 16 to 24 who graduated from high school between January and October 2015, about 2.1 million
(69.2 percent) were enrolled in college in October. ( College par 3.) The other nine hundred thousand
students will either delay college or have decided to never enter college. Taking time off between your
high school graduation and the start of college, or during college, is considered a gap year. This time
off can be structured, such as traveling for volunteering. On the other hand, it can be unstructured,
such as leisurely activities. Some of the most prestigious colleges in the United States encourage
taking a gap year, including Harvard, Yale, Princeton, and Cornell. For nearly 40 years, Harvard has
recommended this option, indeed proposing it in the letter of admission. (Fitzsimmons et al. Par. 21).
There are a great deal of benefits to students delaying the start of college and taking a gap year. One of
those valuable benefits is the ability of gaining life experience. When taking a gap year, the student
may have the ability to travel outside their normal life. Traveling gives an individual a new insight and
perspective into the world. According to Bob Clagett, the director of college counseling at St. Stephen

Carol Ann Duffy Rubbish At Adultery
The three poems I am studying are Valentine by Carol Ann Duffy, Rubbish at adultery by Sophie
Hannah and Absence by Elizabeth Jennings. The three poems are each portraying different level of
love relationships, to express their feelings, whether it is trueness, yearning or bitter. The first poem I
am going to study is Valentine by Carol Ann Duffy. In Valentine Duffy introduces the reader to her
own symbol of love, the onion, which is unusual because the onion is a very tremble, malodorous,
bitter and unromantic entity. Duffy throughout the poem uses the onion as a metaphor for love and
develops it in different ways to demonstrate parallels between the onion and love. In Valentine there is
contradiction if Duffy is expressing feelings from a female perspective because usually a woman will
receive a red rose , satin heart and a cute card or kissogram , therefore the persona probably conveys
feelings from a male perspective. Which is a twist by Duffy, a persona who often had a feminist
perspective. In addition Duffy once more has written a poem subject to controversy because there is
negative attitude, a debate in the poem that normal valentines are not as honest this is evident on line
eleven as a single line I am trying to be truthful . For example first and twelfth line is structured as
single lines for attention and both embark on negative adverb not which indicates a rejection of
traditional love. Both lines continues with

Vitamin Supplements And The Body Needs
Today in society, many individuals do not receive the essential vitamins that the body needs to
maintain good health. Does one ever wonder how the body can receive the necessary vitamins that it
needs to maintain equilibrium? Vitamin supplements can be found in the form of a liquid, pill, or
powder. Individuals can obtain the vitamins through a prescription from their physician or over the
counter. The supplements help the body receive the vitamins that they are not obtaining through their
daily diet. To receive the nourishment the body needs, there are a variety of supplements that can be
obtained.Vitamin supplements are beneficial because they provide nutrition that the body needs, treats
different diseases, and prevents deficiencies that contribute to chronic conditions. A healthy fix to the
body is a simple step away.
In today s world, many individuals tend to eat the quickest and easiest food available to fill their
hunger needs, but the food choices they make do not have the vitamins that the body needs. Everyone
has a daily diet that they stick with and it may be lacking the nutrition crucial for life. Some people try
to eat the basic foods to obtain the essential vitamins needed and in the end they are still lacking, but if
you re doing your best to eat healthy foods but still are deficient in some areas, supplements can help
(Vitamin Supplements: Healthy or Hoax?). The supplements provide the nutrition that the body does

The Dehumanization Of Alison In The Miller s Tale
For thousands of years, women have struggled to survive in male dominated societies. They have been
treated as physically, mentally, and emotionally inferior to men, and have been subjected to second
class treatment. This is especially apparent in Geoffrey Chaucer s collection of short stories known as
The Canterbury Tales. Specifically, the crude language and imagery in The Miller s Tale portrays the
characterization of Alison as a sexually objectified woman in a male dominated society. The narrator s
crude language and tone when describing the competition for Alison s body dehumanizes her sexuality
altogether. Nicholas and Absolon fight for Alison s attention, with Nicholas, ...shapen him a wyle/This

For example, Alison s husband, John, ...heeld hire narwe in cage/ For she was wilde and yong, and he
was old (). John attempts to control Alison s free spirit by confining her a metaphorical cage. More
often than not, cages are associated with animals; therefore, the narrator asserts that Alison s sexuality
must be contained because she herself cannot control it. However, this is far from the truth. Alison
desires to be with Nicholas as much as Nicholas desires to be with her. Yet, because Alison is a
woman, it is not socially acceptable for her to be lustful and passionate. Therefore, the narrator
stereotypes her as wildly uncontrollable, and crudely describes her as ... a prymerole, a piggesnye/ For
any lord to leggen in his bedde/ Or yet for any good yeman to wedde (). This rather crass imagery
portrays her as an prey about to be ravished by its predator. In a predator and prey relationship, the
prey fall victim to predator because of social darwinism the idea that the strong prevail over the weak.
Thus, the narrator s comparison of Alison s sexual longings to an animal s illustrates the concept that
male sexual dominance is natural, and that women cannot control their sexuality and therefore must be
dominated. Likewise, the comparison of Alison to an animal portrays her as a victim rather than a
woman in control of her

It is a tropical pleasance washed by a noble river (4). Forster manages to construct a link between two
implicitly different descriptions through the town of Chandrapore. He paints a ying yang image when
he states that it is a city of gardens (4) since urban areas usually do not have gardens; he places a little
of one in the other. In doing so, he implies the idea of how concord exists with both positives and
negatives.
In one area near Chandrapore called the Marabar Caves, the sound boum had been released and had
echoed in the minds of two central characters. Mrs. Moore had first heard this never ending resonance
during her adventure into one of the Marabar Caves. Once she had heard this sound she had become
hysterical and immediately ran outside of the dark caves. She sat motionless with horror and had lost
all interest in life (166); she felt as if no object or belief was of any value. When everything is of no
worth, there is a sense of unity, for everyone and everything is the same. No entity is greater than the
other. This idea, however, leads to monotony and ennui and expunges one s ability to feel, much like
Mrs. Moore s immobility. Adela had also heard the echo before her trial; it was going on still like a

The Military Tactics And Organized Governance Ensured The...
The effective combination of brutal military tactics and organized governance ensured the success of
the Mongol Empire. This was possible due to the skills gained under their pastoral nomadic political
structure. Their success was further fuelled by their motivation for world domination stemming from
their worldview and values. Their ruthless military practices were efficient in conquering Eurasia, and
the political changes made to these nations ensured continual rule. The rapid usurpation of territory
impacted Eurasia through opening trade and communication. Although the Mongol Empire was short

Resources were scarce in the fields of Central Asia, which necessitated these practices. The tribes
were unified under Genghis Khan, who stated that a man s greatest pleasure is to defeat his enemies,
to drive them before him, to take from them that which they possessed, to see those whom they
cherished in tears, to ride their horses, to hold their wives and daughters in his arms . This identifies
the Mongol value of possession and highlights their superiority complex. This complex served as the
primary motivation in conquering territory. Sources such as the Novgorod Chronicle imply that their
conquest was driven by a thirst for blood, however the absence of torture in their warfare apart from
especially grievant circumstances indicates cold efficiency. Additionally, this chronicle is highly
emotive and religious, which has caused exaggeration.
It is difficult to fully interpret the motivations of the Mongols or their perspective of foreigners due to
the lack of Mongol written sources. This is because of the late formation of a written Mongol
language. Therefore, the accounts of foreigners are invaluable to the investigation of the Mongols.
One of these accounts is from William of Rubruck, who was sent by King Louis IX of France to

Increase Of Regulation For Winter Road Maintenance
Increase in Regulation for Winter Road Maintenance Everyone has dealt with an experience where
they are driving down a cleaned road, and all of a sudden, they hit an ice patch. The winter road crews
have been over the roads, but nevertheless, the road is not safe. The lane will be clean. Then, a block
later, it will be covered in ice. In the city of Nampa, this situation tends to be encountered more than
necessary. When someone travels from Canyon County to Ada County, there is a clear distinction
between the levels of care. Roads in Boise are usually better taken care of compared to the morning
traffic in Nampa. The Treasure Valley needs to increase road maintenance in the winter creating more
mandates for care and researching for a better understanding and process for salting and clean up. For

1. List and describe several pathogens that can cause gastroenteritis in children. Rotavirus: is a
common cause of gastroenteritis in infants and young children. Rotavirus is a non enveloped, double
shelled virus with a double stranded RNA genome. The virus is capable of infecting the epithelial cells
of small intestine, leading to decrease in production of digestive enzymes and cell death. As a result of
epithelial cells damage, the absorption of fluids by small intestine is interrupted which leads to watery
diarrhea. [1] Salmonella enterica: is a member of the Enterobacteriacecae family, a rod shape Gram
negative bacterium. After passage through the gastric acid barrier, S. enterica binds tightly to specific
receptors of the epithelial cells in small intestine. The receptor interaction activates a cellular response
results in transfer of bacterial effector proteins into the epithelial cell, following by uptake of bacterial
cell by endocytosis. Invasion of epithelial cells induce an inflammatory response that increases the
fluid secretion of epithelial cells, causing diarrhea. [2] Giardia lamblia: is a pear shaped, flagellated
protozoan, with two nuclei. The pathogen may exist as trophozoite (enable to feed, grow and cause
disease) and as a dormant cyst, with thick, highly resistant walls composed of chitin like
polysaccharide that help the organism remain viable outside the host body for long periods. Due to
this characteristic, is the pathogen able to pass

The Great Gatsby Narrator Analysis
A narrator is a character who recounts the events of a novel. These characters narrate the novel in their
point of view and how they perceive the events that occur. Their narration may be unreliable due to
bias and dishonesty. F. Scott Fitzgerald s, The Great Gatsby, Nick Carraway, a first person narrator,
tells the story through his point of view and interprets the events and characters in the novel. Nick is
an unreliable narrator because he is biased on his interpretations of the characters and the events that
occur, like Gatsby s death. For example, he speaks negatively of Tom throughout the novel, and
speaks highly of Gatsby due to their relationship. Nick s interpretation of Gatsby s death is seen as
unreliable because Nick s morals change, and he focuses the event on himself.
Nick s interpretations of the characters in the novel are biased due to the relationships he has with
them. Nick describes himself as one of the few honest people that [he has] ever known (Fitzgerald 59).
Nick desperately tries to prove that he is reliable and trustworthy, showing that he is insecure. Early in
the book, Nick shares the piece of advice that his father gave to him when he was younger. He says,
Whenever you feel like criticizing anyone . . . just remember that all the people in this world haven t
had the advantages that you ve had . . . I m inclined to reserve all judgments (1). Nick s desire to be an
authentic narrator, compels people to trust him and his side of the story.

Preventing Underage Drinking
It s both dangerous and against the law, but young people between the ages of 12 and 20 are
responsible for 11 percent of the alcohol consumed annually in the United States. Underage drinking
also accounts for more than 4,300 deaths of young people in the U.S. each year. Here are some signs
that may indicate a teenager has been abusing alcohol. Major red flags include differences in sleep
patterns, appetite, and change of friends or physical appearance. When teens fall in with a social circle
that drinks heavily, they may display a change in attitude and hang out in places and with people they
did not associate with before. They may also lose interest in activities they used to participate in.
Underage drinking can lead to increased absences ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Parents in particular can have either a positive or negative influence. Parents can help their children
avoid alcohol problems by talking about the dangers of drinking, drinking responsibly, if they choose
to drink, serving as positive role models in general, not making alcohol available, getting to know
their children s friends, having regular conversations about life in general, connecting with other
parents about sending clear messages about the importance of not drinking alcohol, supervising all
parties to make sure there is no alcohol, encouraging kids to participate in healthy and fun activities
that do not involve alcohol. Research shows that children whose parents are actively involved in their
lives are less likely to drink alcohol. On the other hand, research shows that a child with a parent who
binge drinks is much more likely to binge drink than a child whose parents do not binge

Customer Relationship Management
Jens Berfenfeldt
Abstract:
In the first part of his abstract the author explain us, the purpose of his thesis. Businesses are the
correlation entre management, customers, and globalization of markets. The interaction between
supplier and customers are the Customer Relationship Management, CRM.
The purpose of this thesis showed the usage of CRM in business to Business firms. For understand,
the author defined three areas of concern; objectives, strategy and measurement of CRM. The method
to answer these questions, was to collect information from two Sweden firms, Haldex, and Nefab. The
data collected form them were compared to each other and to theory.
In general theory is true for CRM, however in a few ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
First of all we had the old pop stores, this was when staff knew customers. In a second step firms grew
and we seen the apparition of masse markets. The firms adapt their customer s bases and tailored to
groups, not for individual.
The second paragraph describes the fact that all firms worked directly with customer relationships,
and created additional value for both their customers and themselves during the 80 s.
During the 90 s firms realized that customers do not solely interact with the marketing department, but
with all the organization. However this strategy disappeared because it was very expensive and
tedious to maintain.
This was the end of Relationship Management, but with the introduction of more advance
technologies it has come back with a new name, Customer Relationship Management.
Them Jens give us some different definition of CRM, by Gartner group, Bose, and Lancaster Jobber.
Today CRM is a method of retaining and developing customers through increased loyalty and
satisfaction. The service, quality and relationship experience are the one greatest competitive aspect
for a Business s survival.

The Ptarmigans In The Lesser Blessed By Richard Van Camp
others from Mick and Jimmy, Lisa fully leaves the spirit world. Once she leaves, the crows leave her.
She says, Somewhere above my head, a raven grumbles as it hops between the branches of the tightly
packed trees. The crows have disappeared (Robinson 374). Lisa has heard all the messages that she
needed to hear from the spirit world and thus the crows disappear.
In The Lesser Blessed, by Richard Van Camp, ptarmigans are symbols of the main character s spiritual
state. The ptarmigans appear at the end of the book when Larry, the main character, is experiencing
emotional turmoil. Larry is a Dogrib teen who has a troubled past and begins to befriend other teens
with troubled pasts. Larry is shy and rarely shares his past and demons with others. Thus, at the very
end of The Lesser Blessed, Larry has a lot to process and the birds are used by Van Camp to express
Larry s spiritual state. In one of the final scenes, Larry his friend Darcy are riding on a snowmobile
when they ... scared two ptarmigans that were sleeping in the snow. Their white wings flicked to their
sides and they flickered ahead of us, like calm white hands. One flanked right, but the other smashed
into our windshield (Van Camp 122). Larry and Darcy were going to Juliet s house to discuss her
recent pregnancy. Larry is in love with Juliet and she is pregnant by his best friend Johnny. This is an
emotional time for Larry, yet due to his past traumas he does not respond to the injured ptarmigan in a

Housing Bubble
According to Wikipedia a housing bubble is a type of economic bubble that occurs periodically in
local or global real estate markets. It is characterized by rapid increases in valuations of real property
such as housing until they reach unsustainable levels and then decline. Four years into the housing
bubble downturn, much of the country remains hopelessly confused about what happened, why it
happened and who is to blame. In my research paper I will try and demonstrate what a housing bubble
is, some of the reasons for the bubble, was it preventable, how it kept growing, how it burst and how it
has affected our economy. By definition a housing bubble is a temporary condition caused by
unjustified speculation in the housing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Other scholars have emphasized the sharp deterioration in lending standards as contributing to the rise
in housing prices as well as the importance of changes to the mortgage market institutional structure.
Other explanations of the bubble have been demand side explanations, meaning that the bubble was
caused by excessive consumer demand for housing. One leading explanation argues that the bubble
was the result of irrational demand encouraged by a belief that housing prices could only move
upwards. Other research points to the fundamentals of housing markets, particularly population
growth, placing upward pressures on housing prices in markets with inelastic housing supply, thereby
explaining some of the geographic variation in the housing bubble. None of these explanations,
however, is capable of fully explaining the housing bubble. From 1997 to 2006 nominal U.S. housing
prices rose 188%. By mid 2009, however, housing prices had fallen by 33% from peak. As the United
States attempts to rebuild its housing nance system, it is of paramount importance to understand what
caused the housing bubble. Until we understand how and why the housing bubble occurred, we cannot
be certain that a reconstructed housing nance system will not again produce such a devastating
bubble. As you can see there are numerous theories and explanations for the bubble. Without getting
too deep

  • 2. Erving Goffman s Presentation Of Self In Everyday Life Erving Goffman was a Canadian born sociologist and writer. He was made a president of the American Sociological Association. His best known involvement and contribution to the social sciences is his theory of symbolic interaction and dramaturgy, which began with his 1959 book The Presentation of Self in Everyday Life. This report explains that individuals have the ability to choose their stage, the character they play, and the costume they wear in specific social situations (Goffman, 1959). He also worked with the total institution model, and used it to construct his studies, mostly in Asylums. A total institution is a residence and workplace for similar people, who are cut off from the wider society for an amount of time, and who altogether, lead an enclosed form of life (Frank, 2002). This ties in with his next book about mental institutions, where he theorized that if people are treated, as they are a societal burden and placed in an institution with others, they ... He describes how the debilitating environment in the institutions affect individuals perception of self worth, no matter how therapeutic or non therapeutic a hospital and program is (Pilgrim and Rogers, 2008). People come from their own social frameworks, where they occupy diverse roles. When institutionalized, these individuals are stripped of their sense of themselves leading to what Goffman described as disculturation (Davidson et, al. 2011). Instead of treating mental health as an illness, disculturation leads to demoralization, deterioration, and leaves people virtually incapable of managing their own lives in the real world , which leaves them requiring to remain institutionalized (Davidson et, al. ... And what s so bad about that anyway? Studies have shown that there are many negative effects associated with obesity. Obesity has been accused of contributing to many long term conditions, such as heart disease, stroke, high blood pressure, osteoarthritis, diabetes and cancer (Pennybacker 15). Along with the fact that obesity is the most common form of malnutrition in the Western world, it also affects sixty four percent of Americans (Pennybacker 15; Brownell 1). Obesity is one of today s most visible, yet neglected conditions affecting more Americans each day. According to the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Many people sit all day in an office, and do not get much physical activity at all. The conveniences and technology of today contribute to a very sedentary lifestyle for much of the population. According to Food Fight, one study found that 23 percent of all deaths from major chronic disease could be attributed to sedentary lifestyle (Brownell 70). The lack of exercise is one of the main causes of obesity in the United States. Another possible contribution to obesity, which is still in the process of being further researched, is genetics. According to the Office of Genomics Disease Prevention, studies indicate that inherited genetic variation is an important risk factor for obesity. It was also pointed out that genetic factors are starting to be questioned in the degree of effectiveness of diet and physical activity interventions for weight reduction (Obesity and Genetics I). Learning how genetic variations effect obesity will make it much easier to prevent and treat the condition of obesity. In addition to the many different causes of obesity, fast food receives much of the blame. With the continual growth of the fast food industry in the United States, obesity is becoming a bigger problem everyday. The connection between fast food and obesity is one of the primary criticisms in the book, Fast Food Nation, written by Eric Schlosser. Wars happen because societies can come across conflict, different opinions, or simply people on country may be interested in anothers land or resources. A war that can relate to this is the second Seminole War which first began in the 19th century. This war started because of discrimination over the Native American people and the drive to have them relocate for their land. After many attempts and one war before the second seminole war America realized they really need to demand changes and take action. The European Americans, American government and President Andrew Jackson felt that it was necessary to relocate the Seminoles from North of Lake Okeechobee to the west of the Mississippi river. The whites had intentions to remove all seminoles just so they can have the rich soil. Andrew Jackson decided to take action and divide Florida into two counties. What was once known to be West Florida was suddenly called Escambia county and what was once known as Easy Florida was know St. Johns County. Andrew Jackson had suddenly left Pope DuVal to be the Florida leader. Once he became the leader of florida, it was officially known as territory on March, 30, 1822. • 9. Identity And Identity In The Whore s Child By Richard Russo The Whore s Child is a famous short story by Richard Russo. The story follows the life of a nun, Sister Ursula, as she joins a college fiction writing course and begins writing her life story. As she writes, with the help of her professor and the feedback from her class, she discovers more about herself and the truth about her life. A key element of this story is the depth to which the characters are explored, given the limited amount of time for characterization. A primary way to explore this characterization is through the works of prominent identity theorists one of which being Canary et al. This theory talks about some of the ways that identity is developed, through concepts such as social cognition, schema, and the four cognitive ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Another key aspect of Canary s theory is that of the four cognitive processes stereotypes, attributions, person perception, and interpersonal goals. According to Canary, stereotypes are when categories are about people and are based on their group membership (Canary 114). In Russo s story, Sister Ursula writes about how, as a child, she understood that her mother s being a prostitute made her the whore s child, that her mother s wickedness diminished her father s value (8). This excerpt from Sister Ursula s story establishes how the negative stereotypes around her mother s lifestyle impacted her childhood. Even today, prostitution is considered dishonorable in society, especially within religious circles, and thus, Sister Ursula s mother s stigma was attached to her as a child, which caused her to be inherently disliked in the nun community. Again, this could be a contributing factor to Sister Ursula s cold and steadfast demeanor, as she had to grow up protecting herself from the judgmental gazes of her superiors and peers. Attributions are the next facet of the four cognitive processes that can be seen in The Whore s Child. They are defined as assessments of the cause of an action or behavior, (Canary 111) and can be both internal and external. Internal meaning that the behavior is attributed to qualities such as ... • 10. The Theme Of Inequality In A Connecticut Yankee In King... In a Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur s court, Mark Twain sets the plot of the story in the 19th century in Connecticut. After Hank Morgan is struck by a crowbar, he wakes up 13 centuries that are in the past. In the event, a night from the court of King Arthur takes him prisoner as King Arthur orders his execution. Hank becomes the prime minister to the king by escaping execution through predicting that an eclipse will block the sun if he is executed (Lupack 162). Throughout this story, the theme of inequality is evident especially since social inequality and injustice is highlighted throughout the narrative. In one instance, Hank visits a village which is full of peasants who are dressed wretchedly. There is a clear disparity between the life in the royal court and that which is lived by peasants in the field. Discussion The theme of inequality starts to develop in the first chapter where the peasants are depicted to be living in conditions, which are regarded to be wretched. These peasants only have scant clothing and the children are required by law to walk bare without any garments. Furthermore, the peasants live in filthy spaces, and they eat poor food. Iron collars are put on the peasant as an indication of slavery which is rampant among the common population (Hasty 22). The deplorable condition of the peasants sharply contradicts the life of the knights and the inhabitants of the royal court. In the royal court, there is a parade of knights residing in the ... Student s Name Of The Achievement Psychology Student s Name Institution Question1 The achievement motive emphasized the notion that links the personality traits and social background check of a person with his or her level of need for achievement. David McClelland stressed that the need for achievement is an apparent human motive that can be distinguished from other needs. He believed that the achievement motivated people, do not turn down rewards but the rewards are not important as the accomplishment itself (Bernstein, 2006). Motivation is based on the individual s emotions and the achievement related goals. The achievement motivation is aimed at attaining success and achieving all of our ambitions in life. As a result of this the achievement goals can influence our natural behaviour (Rochester Institute, 2005). Situational factors also affect achievement behaviour. The search for achievement is likely to increase when the possibility of success and the incentive value of success are high (Rochester Institute, 2005). This can be attributed to the following reasons: a) As duties get easier, success becomes more fulfilling and as tasks get harder success becomes less fulfilling. b) Reasonably challenging tasks seem to offer the best overall worth in terms of maximizing the person s sense of accomplishment. c) People differing in their desires to avoid failure, emphasizes that emotion and motivation are interweaved. • 19. Evolution of Hip-Hop Evolution of Hip Hop From where it started to where it is now, Cuban hip hop has transformed greatly. Without the United States, hip hop in Cuba certainly would not be where it is today. The United States is the hub of hip hop and helped to jumpstart hip hop in Cuba. While this is true, hip hop in the United States completely differs from that of Cuba for the better. Even though hip hop in Cuba did not start from much, the amount of development and influence this music has towards Cuba is immeasurable. Around 1970, 44 years ago, hip hop emerged in the West Bronx of New York. The culture of hip hop incorporates many aspects besides just the music itself, such as DJing, graffiti, breakdancing, and urban fashion. Hip hop mainly started from DJ s separating the break in rock, funk and other types of songs, as well as the MC playing a major role in the development of hip hop. In between the songs that the DJ was playing, the MC would speak in between the songs, make jokes and many other actions in order to get the crowd riled up. This eventually led up to the practice of hip hop to become more conventional, resulting in the forming of hip hop. Kool DJ Herc did all of this in 1970, who is believed to be the one who started the emergence of hip hop. • 20. Reflection Of Music In This Little Light Of Mine Music is defined as the vocal or instrumental sounds (or both) combined in such a way as to produce beauty of form, harmony, and expression of music. What truly exemplifies this definition is the performance entitled This Little Light of Mine in which performers, Donald Craig Manuel and Charles Lloyd Jr, took the stage to deliver a beautiful duo that s consisted of Mr. Manuel s Baritone voice and Mr. Lloyd s performance on the piano. Mr. Donald Manuel performed twelve compositions in which ten of them were sacred pieces that expressed how much he loved the Lord and the other four were taken from major events he performed for such as: Festival of the Lion King at Hong Kong Disneyland, major productions abroad the Disney Dream, and musical numbers from popular Disney films. Even though each of these pieces were different in context they had numerous similarities such as: all of them being polyphonic, crescendo and decrescendo were used extensively, dynamics were used frequently, each piece was set to a walking tempo (Andante), each piece had the qualities of an opera, and he used vibrato in all his compositions. Even though all his performed pieces were brilliantly performed, the three compositions that stood out to me were: Ride on King Jesus by Hall Johnson, This Little Light O Mine by John Work, and Be prepared by E. John and T. Rice. The first piece that was performed, Ride of King Jesus, is a sacred, polyphonic piece that was performed in Low D flat in quadruple meter. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In the second section, Of Cocks and Men , Geertz reflects on different aspects of Balinese culture and how Balinese men, despite cockfighting being illegal, strongly identify with it and even use the term to refer to different types of men and their personalities. For Case, who d lived for the bodiless exultation of cyberspace, it was the Fall. In the bars he d frequented as a cowboy hotshot, the elite stance involved a certain relaxed contempt for the flesh. Britain had long wanted to be better and more powerful than Spain, so when Spain started settling colonies in America, England was quick to follow their lead. It all began when Britain gave a charter to the Virginia Company to establish a colony, and after that charter the British settled more and more of America. Even though all these colonies were established by Britain, there were many major differences between the Northern colonies and the Southern colonies. In the south, the geography was perfect for an agricultural economy; there was fertile soil, long growing seasons, and deep rivers for easy transport of crops. The South s economy was based on the trade of cash crops such as tobacco, and these cash crops were grown on large plantations. People who lived in the southern colonies were all about making money, so that meant they did not want to waste any extra expenses on paid labor. This caused them to turn to slave labor. In the South, almost everybody had slaves, and the slaves were treated very badly. They did not need to be paid or given any rewards for their work, so to the money hungry southern colonists, they were the perfect laborers. These slaves caused a large problem for immigration though. Because all the jobs were taken by slaves, there were no job openings for immigrants around Europe like there was in the South. The only people who could prosper in the South were wealthy white men who could own plantations. Professor Van Helsing and Count Dracula were the main identities in Stoker s Dracula because they both represented areas of strict morals such as good and evil, respectively. Although the two men present rather general characteristics of their due morals, Stoker also gave subtle commonalities to them. Although Dracula happens to be the evil of the story, it can also be presumed that he may be the good while Van Helsing is the bad. Even though Stoker indicates that the characters remain in their set of morals, both of them presume to acquire each other s attributes, furthermore. Van Helsing and Dracula represent the two sides of humanity in a rather vital way; Stoker used both men as individuals but with the overall sense of completion. Whereas one represents what is thought to be holy while the other evil, it is rather ambiguous that this is so. Stoker provides context within his characters however, which provides them with similarities usually disguised as faults. The Professor and the Count are quite indistinguishable because of how Stoker portrays them as two sides to one coin thus allowing each to have their own distinction whilst obtaining similar convictions. Their characters are rather interchangeable since they both exhibit: determination towards their overall goal, strength in times of other s weakness, and influential capabilities over others. ... The flowcharting is incomplete, and lacks a full analysis of all systems involved to truly understand where the defects lie and areas of improvements can be made beyond implementing a new system that is above the company s potential fiscal budget. The three poems are each portraying different level of love relationships, to express their feelings, whether it is trueness, yearning or bitter. The first poem I am going to study is Valentine by Carol Ann Duffy. In Valentine Duffy introduces the reader to her own symbol of love, the onion, which is unusual because the onion is a very tremble, malodorous, bitter and unromantic entity. Duffy throughout the poem uses the onion as a metaphor for love and develops it in different ways to demonstrate parallels between the onion and love. In Valentine there is contradiction if Duffy is expressing feelings from a female perspective because usually a woman will receive a red rose , satin heart and a cute card or kissogram , therefore the persona probably conveys feelings from a male perspective. Which is a twist by Duffy, a persona who often had a feminist perspective. They have been treated as physically, mentally, and emotionally inferior to men, and have been subjected to second class treatment. This is especially apparent in Geoffrey Chaucer s collection of short stories known as The Canterbury Tales. Specifically, the crude language and imagery in The Miller s Tale portrays the characterization of Alison as a sexually objectified woman in a male dominated society. The narrator s crude language and tone when describing the competition for Alison s body dehumanizes her sexuality altogether. For example, Alison s husband, John, ...heeld hire narwe in cage/ For she was wilde and yong, and he was old (). John attempts to control Alison s free spirit by confining her a metaphorical cage. More often than not, cages are associated with animals; therefore, the narrator asserts that Alison s sexuality must be contained because she herself cannot control it. However, this is far from the truth. Alison desires to be with Nicholas as much as Nicholas desires to be with her. Yet, because Alison is a woman, it is not socially acceptable for her to be lustful and passionate. Therefore, the narrator stereotypes her as wildly uncontrollable, and crudely describes her as ... a prymerole, a piggesnye/ For any lord to leggen in his bedde/ Or yet for any good yeman to wedde (). This rather crass imagery portrays her as an prey about to be ravished by its predator. In a predator and prey relationship, the prey fall victim to predator because of social darwinism the idea that the strong prevail over the weak. Thus, the narrator s comparison of Alison s sexual longings to an animal s illustrates the concept that male sexual dominance is natural, and that women cannot control their sexuality and therefore must be dominated. He paints a ying yang image when he states that it is a city of gardens (4) since urban areas usually do not have gardens; he places a little of one in the other. In doing so, he implies the idea of how concord exists with both positives and negatives. In one area near Chandrapore called the Marabar Caves, the sound boum had been released and had echoed in the minds of two central characters. Mrs. Moore had first heard this never ending resonance during her adventure into one of the Marabar Caves. Once she had heard this sound she had become hysterical and immediately ran outside of the dark caves. Rotavirus: is a common cause of gastroenteritis in infants and young children. Rotavirus is a non enveloped, double shelled virus with a double stranded RNA genome. The virus is capable of infecting the epithelial cells of small intestine, leading to decrease in production of digestive enzymes and cell death. As a result of epithelial cells damage, the absorption of fluids by small intestine is interrupted which leads to watery diarrhea. [1] Salmonella enterica: is a member of the Enterobacteriacecae family, a rod shape Gram negative bacterium. After passage through the gastric acid barrier, S. enterica binds tightly to specific receptors of the epithelial cells in small intestine. The receptor interaction activates a cellular response results in transfer of bacterial effector proteins into the epithelial cell, following by uptake of bacterial cell by endocytosis. • 43. The Great Gatsby Narrator Analysis A narrator is a character who recounts the events of a novel. These characters narrate the novel in their point of view and how they perceive the events that occur. Their narration may be unreliable due to bias and dishonesty. F. Scott Fitzgerald s, The Great Gatsby, Nick Carraway, a first person narrator, tells the story through his point of view and interprets the events and characters in the novel. Nick is an unreliable narrator because he is biased on his interpretations of the characters and the events that occur, like Gatsby s death. For example, he speaks negatively of Tom throughout the novel, and speaks highly of Gatsby due to their relationship. Nick s interpretation of Gatsby s death is seen as unreliable because Nick s morals change, and he focuses the event on himself. Nick s interpretations of the characters in the novel are biased due to the relationships he has with them. Nick describes himself as one of the few honest people that [he has] ever known (Fitzgerald 59). Nick desperately tries to prove that he is reliable and trustworthy, showing that he is insecure. Early in the book, Nick shares the piece of advice that his father gave to him when he was younger. He says, Whenever you feel like criticizing anyone . . . just remember that all the people in this world haven t had the advantages that you ve had . . . I m inclined to reserve all judgments (1). Nick s desire to be an authentic narrator, compels people to trust him and his side of the story. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 46. The Ptarmigans In The Lesser Blessed By Richard Van Camp others from Mick and Jimmy, Lisa fully leaves the spirit world. Once she leaves, the crows leave her. She says, Somewhere above my head, a raven grumbles as it hops between the branches of the tightly packed trees. The crows have disappeared (Robinson 374). Lisa has heard all the messages that she needed to hear from the spirit world and thus the crows disappear. In The Lesser Blessed, by Richard Van Camp, ptarmigans are symbols of the main character s spiritual state. The ptarmigans appear at the end of the book when Larry, the main character, is experiencing emotional turmoil. Larry is a Dogrib teen who has a troubled past and begins to befriend other teens with troubled pasts. Larry is shy and rarely shares his past and demons with others. • 47. Housing Bubble According to Wikipedia a housing bubble is a type of economic bubble that occurs periodically in local or global real estate markets. It is characterized by rapid increases in valuations of real property such as housing until they reach unsustainable levels and then decline. Four years into the housing bubble downturn, much of the country remains hopelessly confused about what happened, why it happened and who is to blame. In my research paper I will try and demonstrate what a housing bubble is, some of the reasons for the bubble, was it preventable, how it kept growing, how it burst and how it has affected our economy. By definition a housing bubble is a temporary condition caused by unjustified speculation in the housing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Other scholars have emphasized the sharp deterioration in lending standards as contributing to the rise in housing prices as well as the importance of changes to the mortgage market institutional structure. Other explanations of the bubble have been demand side explanations, meaning that the bubble was caused by excessive consumer demand for housing. One leading explanation argues that the bubble was the result of irrational demand encouraged by a belief that housing prices could only move upwards. Other research points to the fundamentals of housing markets, particularly population growth, placing upward pressures on housing prices in markets with inelastic housing supply, thereby explaining some of the geographic variation in the housing bubble. None of these explanations, however, is capable of fully explaining the housing bubble. From 1997 to 2006 nominal U.S. housing prices rose 188%. By mid 2009, however, housing prices had fallen by 33% from peak. As the United States attempts to rebuild its housing nance system, it is of paramount importance to understand what caused the housing bubble. Until we understand how and why the housing bubble occurred, we cannot be certain that a reconstructed housing nance system will not again produce such a devastating bubble. As you can see there are numerous theories and explanations for the bubble. Without getting too deep ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
