Parenting Reflection
Becoming a more competent communicator and disciplinarian, without escalating conflict is what I
am working on, specifically with my five teenage children, ages 17, 15, 14, 14 and 14. After my
divorce, my children were beginning to exhibit at risk behaviors, such as sneaking out of the home,
disregarding family rules and expectations with regard to homework, chores and their overall safety.
Eventually a friend who is employed with the Department of Children and Family Services referred
me to Youth Services. This resulted in attending weekly classes for ten weeks aimed at reducing
conflict and finding new ways to communicate with my children. The class is structured around the
peer reviewed research of the same name, Strengthening Families, and provides an atmosphere for me
to work with youth counselors who actively assist me in changing my parenting style to adopt a more
collaborative approach.
Through my research and attendance of the Strengthening Families classes, it became glaringly
obvious that the approach I was taking to parenting, was not successful. One of my discoveries
through this project is that overall, my children respond better to a collaborative approach and it is
more meaningful to hold them accountable for their actions when we have all decided ahead of time
what those consequences will be. While I have five children left in my home, I have an older son who
is married and on his own, I have been parenting one way for a very long time and I found changing

Examples Of Suspense In Stranger Things
Suspense is when the author makes the reader, or audience excited or scared for what might happen in
the story, or even what will happen to the character next in the story. Suspense might even be
something you see or hear that will make you have questions about what will happen next. If there is a
cliffhanger at the end of a story, it will leave you with questions wondering what will happen to the
characters next. The mood, tone, setting, emotions of character, sound and sight might affect how the
story is suspenseful. We all enjoy watching suspenseful movies and reading stories, because they are
exciting. It leaves us with questions that the author won t have the answers to in the end, so the author
gives us as the audience, the chance to make up their own ending to the story or movie. The author
will give you clues throughout the story, to help you fill in questions you might have in the end. This
makes it more exciting for the reader and the audience because we get to engage with the characters in
the book or movie. The tv series, Stranger Things, is about 4 kids who have to fight off monsters in a
little town in Indiana. This TV show is a great example of suspense, and it shows it effectively
because, of Foreshadowing, Dilemma, and Dramatic Irony presented throughout the show. With just
using those four examples, Stranger Things is a great example of suspense. The example,
foreshadowing is when the writer gives the audience clues in the text or script about what

The American Marketing Association ( Ama )
Introduction
According to the definition from the American Marketing Association (AMA), a brand is a name,
term, sign or combination of them intended to identify goods and services of one or a group of sellers
and distinguish it from competitors.
Brands play different roles in the lives of individuals (Ajgaonkar, 2012). But the roles they play
depends on the individual (Kardes et. al, 2011), due to the fact that we are not all the same. According
to Belk (1988), an individual may use personal possessions such as jewelry or clothing to help define
an individual s sense of self
Levy (1959) and Holam (1981) also support the statement by arguing that clothing has a symbolic
attribute, which is used as a form of social interaction. The aim of this essay is to define the roles that
brands play in my life and how they contribute to my sense of self. This will be accomplished by
drawing on my personal experience with brands and with the support of academic material. To suit the
purpose of this essay, I decided to use three brands; Converses, Playstation and Kurt Geiger.
The Brands
Converses is one of the oldest footwear brands. The brand initially produced shoes for basketball
players but eventually converted to mass market. Converses portray a tough, masculine appeal that
customers would associate with the shoe brand. The brand also falls under the excitement dimension,
which portrays, a spirited, imaginative and daring characteristic (Aaker,

Development of Apple Inc. on a Time Sequence Basis
Introduction
This assignment is examining the development of Apple.inc on a time sequence basis. Its objective is
not to make a list of this American multinational corporation technological products. Many people
interested in technology already know that! More importantly, this assignment focuses on Apple s
ideas, visions, communication, challenges, competition, deals, sales and financial aspects. Once it
grasps a good knowledge of the development of this company, the assignment tries to analyse this
company in a more economic related approach. But why have I chosen Apple? To tell you the truth, up
till a few years ago, to me Apple was just a fruit. It all changed where at one point in time, I was tired
with my Windows desktop PC. It was slow, crashed all the time and full of unwanted viruses. A friend
of mine suggested buying an Apple desktop computer. To this day I m still excited of owning this
technology as if it is first day that I bought it!
What is Innovation?
In 1982, an employee on the Macintosh team Thought that we should do some market research to see
what customers wanted . Steve Jobs, Founder of Apple replied,
No, because customers don t know what they want until we ve shown them. Our job is to figure out
what they are going to want before they do

routine; there were days when more than 100 persons were executed. Amnesty International
documented 2,946 executions in the 12 months following Bani Sadr s impeachment, a conservative
figure because the authorities did not report all executions. The pace of executions slackened
considerably at the end of 1982, partly as a result of a deliberate government decision but primarily
because, by then, the back of the armed resistance movement had largely been broken. The radical
opposition had, however, eliminated several key clerical leaders, exposed vulnerabilities in the state s
security apparatus, and posed the threat, never realized, of sparking a wider opposition movement. The
December decree, however, implied no increased tolerance for ... Show more content on

In February 1983, the government arrested Tudeh leader Nureddin Kianuri, other members of the
party Central Committee, and more than 1,000 party members. The party was proscribed, and Kianuri
confessed on television to spying for the Soviet Union and to espionage, deceit, and treason. Possibly
because of Soviet intervention, none of the leading members of the party was brought to trial or
executed, although the leaders remained in prison. Many rank and file members, however, were put to
death. By 1983 Bazargan s IFM was the only political group outside the factions of the ruling
hierarchy that was permitted any freedom of activity. Even this group was barely tolerated. For
example, the party headquarters was attacked in 1983, and two party members were assaulted on the
floor of the Majlis. In 1984 Khomeini denounced the Hojjatieh, a fundamentalist religious group that
rejected the role assigned to the faqih under the Constitution. The organization, taking this attack as a
warning, dissolved itself. For most Iranians the reciprocal obligations and privileges that define
relations between kinsfolk from the parent child bond to more distant ones have been more important
than those associated with any other kind of social alignment. Although Bakhtiar won the qualified
support of moderate clerics like Shariatmadari, his measures did not win him the support of Khomeini
and the main opposition elements, who were now committed to the overthrow of the monarchy and

Q A Case Study
3.a. Brands cannot be expected to last forever versus there is no reason for a brand to ever become
obsolete. In reality brands can exist forever if they are managed to stay in step with their target
customers unmet needs, preferences, wants and strive to exceed their expectations. Brand familiarity
and execution are key to the longevity of any marketing strategy, and to attain this over time brand
marketers must stay agile enough to shift with customer s needs, both actual and planned (Palmer,
2010). Consider Proctor Gamble and their approach to branding soap over the last one hundred years,
where the product itself was changing and continually improving yet the brand equity accumulated
over decades of consistent execution (Srivastava, 2009). The ability of a brand to stay agile and take
risks is also predicated on how much trust it has created and keeps fueling over time with its customer
bases as well (Urde, 1994). A brand can survive over a very long time by concentrating on the
customer first and their needs, making those the galvanizing force of the entire branding network
(Sarkar, Singh, 2005). Brands can continue on in perpetuity if they also stay true to the unique and
most differentiation aspects of the businesses they work to represent. Brands in many cases will drive
an entire company to revolutionize key processes, systems, and roles of key people in the organization
to stay more in step with customer needs (Sarkar, Singh, 2005). Given the focus on

Why Is It Important To Keep Summer Break
Do you remember how excited you used to get for summer break? Now imagine not having a break at
all, having to continuously learn new subjects all year long. Exhausting isn t it? There are some
schools where there would be a 3 4 week break in the summer, but the winter break is longer than
ours. Personally, I believe that we should keep our summer break the way it is because: both students
and teachers deserve a break from school, constantly having new information drilled into your head all
year long is bound to put stress on anyone, and there are countless students who depend on summer
break to work and/or travel.
First off, students and teachers would not be able to stand each other by the end of the year. If the
county had all year round school, we would all start resenting each other because of all the time we
would be forced to spend together. Also, I know a couple of teachers who gave up one job for being a
teacher because of summer break. They have time to travel and do whatever they want in the summer
instead of being stuck in a building with teenagers all day. Plus, teachers also deserve a break from
grading papers and talking until their voice is gone to kids who are probably not even listening. ...

Imagine how much those levels would increase if we had school with no breaks. School is honestly
stressful enough as it is; with the amount of work that we get on a daily basis, it s no wonder we are
more anxious than before. If we tried to continuously have new information stored in our brains, kids
would start thinking they aren t smart enough to pass high school so they just stop trying. Kids also
depend on summer break to work, some have families to

Teen Pregnancy Rates Paper
This week s assignment had me take a closer look on how environment truly influences teen
pregnancy rates in my community. Teens living in poverty have a greater likelihood of becoming
pregnant than teens living in affluent communities. What causes this disparity? Social and
environmental factors are in large part responsible for the disparity. The adults in lower income
families are often less educated, have a criminal history, hold low income jobs, or are unemployed.
Lower income communities are plagued by gun violence, gang inhabitance, and the availability of
drugs. Teens that become pregnant at an early age, have parents that themselves were pregnant as
teens ( Teen Pregnancy Facts, Teen Pregnancy Statistics Teen Pregnancy Environmental ... Show more

According to the CDC, Teen pregnancy rates are highest within the Hispanic and African American
demographic ( Social Determinants and Teen Pregnancy / Teen Pregnancy / Reproductive Health /
CDC, 2015). This trend can be linked to neighborhood income inequality and lower educational
opportunity for these demographics ( Social Determinants and Teen Pregnancy / Teen Pregnancy /
Reproductive Health / CDC, 2015). In my Voicethread post I addressed the idea of generational
poverty for many families in urban communities across the country. Adolescents and teens that have
grandparents and parents that live in poverty are more likely to experience poverty in their adult lives.
Low income families rely on multiple forms of government aid, including food stamps, rent
assistance, and other governmental subsidies to decrease their financial burden each month. Cyclic
poverty is among the most difficult patterns to overcome. Decreased economic prospects for young
girls in urban environments steer them towards teen parenting (Kempner, 2013). Watching their
parents get by is enough motivation for vulnerable young women to take the plunge into parenthood.
However, parents that seek education and personal betterment often seek safer environments in which
to raise their children, breaking the cycle of poverty for their families. The educational push by the
adults in their lives should be there for teens,

Miss Ever s Boys Film critique Essay
Bioethical Issues: Miss Evers Boys
Introduction
Miss Ever s Boys is a docudrama film that was produced by the HBO cable network. The movie
explores ethical and social issues involved in the infamous Tuskegee Study. The study was about
untreated black men with syphilis. The U.S. Public Health Service is said to have conducted a study
among 600 black Americans from the years 1932 to 1972. This study was done in Macon County. This
paper will exclusively explore the critique the Miss Ever s Boys film using ethical frameworks. The
ethical framework includes beneficence, justice, and respect for persons, duty based ethics, virtue
based ethics, and the right s based ethics. The paper will identify how the above listed ethical
principles were ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the movie, Miss Ever s Boys , only blacks were included in the study. The study recruited 600 black
men and none white person. To start with, this was discrimination of the highest order. This means that
only the black men were at the risk of dying, considering that they treated them with placebos. This
means that only the black men s lives were endangered while the bioethics requires that the risk to be
distributed equally (B. Miss Evers Boys and the Tuskegee Syphilis Study, 2013).
Respect for persons means that people have a right to fully exercise their autonomy. Here, people need
to be given a chance to make their own choices. In the film, Miss Ever s Boys, it is clear that the
participants were not respected at all. The first show of disrespect was when the U.S. Public Health
Service decided to conduct a study and lie to the participants that they were going to offer them cure
to syphilis. The second disrespect shown was the discrimination in the study where only the blacks
were selected. Lastly, the U.S. Public Health Service disrespected the participants knowing that it was
dangerous. Therefore, the respect for person ethical principle was not meet in the movie Miss Ever s
Boys .
Duty based ethics are based on duty or obligation. Kant argues that there are higher principles that are
good in no matter the time, situation, or culture. Therefore, when faced with

Descriptive Lake House Essay
It was chilly. It always was. The slight breeze and the overcast clouds provided a gray morning, which
to some foreshadowed a sad and droopy day but I saw the hopeful rays of sunshine attempting to leak
through the dull, gray bars that separated the warm sun from the cool ground. The lake house: a place
where I enjoyed the fruits of having a friendship with the daughter of the family who owned the
house. From wakeboarding to tubing to boat rides the lake offered all the amenities one could hope for
in a fairly large body of water. Yet these forms of entertainment only amount to the smallest fraction
of why the lake house is so integral to my contentment.
The dock has a fine hardwood finish that prevents painful splinters, plenty of comfortable lawn chairs
to sit in, an emerald green table where I have played countless hours of Settlers of Catan, and an
American flag that flutters majestically in the wind. The view, needless to say, is breathtaking. In the
chilly, gray mornings that accompany my lake house visits, I wake up early, amble to the dock, plop
down on a comfortable lawn chair, and gaze out into the body of water that is Weiss Lake. The smooth
waves undulate across the calm surface of the lake as if a herder is flocking his sheep slowly back into
the red barn house. The ripples create a sense of inner calm that permeates throughout ... Show more

Education Is The Failure Of The Public School System
We are living in a illusion, where the public school system is working fine to our requirements.Over
the years, millions of students are dropping out of public schools, and the number is still increasing at
a rapid rate. Most parents still have the mindset that the public school system will provide plenty of
opportunity for their children in the future. But in reality our public school system has done very little
more than just babysit their children. The public school system has failed its students, especially in
most black communities and other minority communities. Most public school students are in distress
because the United States has a poor education system. The main reason the public school system has
failed its students is because of lack of fund and qualify teachers.
The public school system is a poorly funded program. In the Federal Spending: Where Does the
Money Go article it show that the United States spend only 6.28 percent on education and spend 53.71
percent on the military. This is outrage and people are blind to those facts. The government does not
invest that much money on education compared to other programs. Due to the lack of funds, most
public schools can not afford to provide text books which is an essential tool for student development.
Without the necessary books how can the students learn? The government has created a program that
was doomed to fail from the beginning. Without money the public school system is useless and gives
parents false hope

Anthem For The Underdog Analysis
This has been one of the hardest papers I actually had to write for there are so many songs and events.
Most would say I have a somewhat normal life during this last decade. With the War on Terror started
in 2003, I was in high school at Goose Creek High School. During this time I was careless, childish,
prideful, stubborn, and somewhat idiotic. I dropped out of high school and became a bum. Eventually
I grew up a little and decided to go to Job Corp in Bristol, TN. I attended there GED and trade
program which I graduated with both. After graduation in 2006, I joined the Army six months later.
The song that comes to mind is Anthem for the Underdog by 12 Stones. The song reminds me of how

and reality. Luckily reality won out. Though I faced many challenges from mortars and rockets, at that
time the most challenging was learning how to deal with people. At the end the tour I had changed and
became colder with a cruel way of looking at life with a mean sense of a humor that somewhat
shielded me from others. The song that came with that time in my life would be Goodbye for Now by

Informative Speech On Murderers
Good morning everyone. Welcome to Cool Cats Cross Class Crime News. I m Maggie Lin and I will
be talking to you about a serial killer homicide case that happened in Florida two month ago. Imagine
this, what if a serial killer has been going around your neighborhood and started to kill your neighbors
with no motivation for doing so, would you feel safe and protected? Well, these civilians in a certain
neighborhood felt unprotected and afraid when they heard the news that someone had been shot and
killed in their neighborhood. There were four victims total that had been shot to death by a serial killer
in Tampa, Florida in a small neighborhood called Seminole Heights. I am informing you of this
important new because knowing that a serial killer is on the loose is a good knowledge to know when
you are alone outside and you probably will be cautious of your surroundings. Also, the homicide rate
alone in the United States has increased 4% more this year compared to last year. The first killing
happened on October 9 where the victim, Benjamin Mitchell, 22 got shot and killed at his front of his
house. Then two days later, on October 11, Monica Hoffa, 32 was shot to death and her body was
found on October 13 when a city worker found her at a parking lot just half a mile away from the first
killing. Eight days later, October 19, Anthony Naiboa, 20 just graduated high school, accidentally got
on the wrong bus and took a detour to death in Seminole Height and then was shot and killed.

Health And Drug Administration Of The Health Care Setting

In an effort to reduce the occurrence of medication errors, JHACO has thoroughly investigated and
implemented new safety standards of care. JHACO implemented a new standard referred to as the 10
Rights of Drug Administration. 1. The Right Drug, 2. Right Patient, 3. Right Dose, 4. Right Route, 5.
Right Time and Frequency, 6. Right Documentation, 7. Right History and Assessment, 8. Drug
approach and Right to Refuse, 9. Right Drug to Drug Interaction and Evaluation, and 10. Right
Education and Information. Failure to follow the 10 Rights of Medication Administration can result in
a patient s injury or death (Potter, Perry, Hall, Stockert, 2013). Further research in safety has proven
that reviewing the physicians order three times significantly reduced transcribing errors or entering the
order incorrectly into the electronic medical record. Training new nurses and experienced nurses to
review every order three times has shown beneficial in patient safety and has reduced medication
errors. Nurses and medical staff involved in medication administration are encouraged to have a
buddy system, where there are two nurses or trained staff members who double check all medication
calculations and assist with verifying high risk medication dosages. When there is a discrepancy
concerning any medication administration, a Stop, Think and Call policy is implemented and the
medication is held until proper documentation and verification have been obtained.

The Effects Of Dramatic Play On Children
Dramatic play gives children many opportunities to grow and learn. Children will learn
communication skills, physical skills and children will also be able to use imagination and be able to
be creative with their own ideas. Dramatic play can give children so many opportunities to grow
without them even knowing.
Dramatic play will help children gain communication skills just by talking with the other children. In
order for the children to play together they must listen to one another and be able to respond correctly
to the question or statement. As the article, How do Young Children Learn through Play points out,
Actual studies have demonstrated cognitive benefits such as increases in language usage including
subjunctives, future tenses, and adjectives (Sege, 2012, p.1). Children are learning even when they are
just playing we may not see it as educational, but there are many components involved in play.
Children who feel stressed or are just having a bad day may take out their anger or stress through play.
In Marie E. Cecchini article How Dramatic Play Can Enhance Learning states; They develop the skills
they need to cooperate with their peers, learn to control their impulses, and tend to be less aggressive
than children who do not engage in this type of play (Cecchini, 2008,p.1). Children who engage in

The Attack on Constantinople by the Crusaders
The Attack of Constantinople by Crusaders In his account of the Crusaders siege of Constantinople,
the Byzantine historian Nicetas Choniates, provides some compelling reports concerning the
behaviors of the Christian knights and peasants who formed the Crusader army that sought to wrest
control of the city from its defenders. In his account, Choniates makes the point that the Crusaders
little resembled the good hearted Christians they purported to be, but were more like a barbarian horde
in the brutality of their actions when reaching the city, which was a major center of the Christian faith
at the time. Moreover, the Crusaders had even sacked another Christian city, Zara, on their way to
Constantinople. It was clear, then, that these Crusaders were less interested in wresting the Holy Land
from the Moslems than they were in taking advantage of this opportunity to unjustly enrich
themselves at the expense of anyone who happened to get in their way. Unfortunately, Choniates also
emphasizes in his account that these actions were not those of just a few overzealous Crusaders, but
were rather characteristic of the actions of all of them. For instance, Choniates reports that, Nor,
indeed, were these crimes committed and others left undone, on the ground that these were of lesser
guilt, the others of greater. But with one consent all the most heinous sins and crimes were committed
by all with equal zeal. Moreover, the list of the types of sins and crimes that Choniates

veterans returned home from war most of them end up became disabled. Therefore Veterans expected
to receive rehabilitation service from the government in exchange for their service to the country.
Rehabilitation service improved moderately in the 1930 s such as providing service such as
government assistance for people with disability. Also during this time period one very important
person, Franklin D. Roosevelt who was U.S. President, served from 1933 to 1945, and was disabled;
Roosevelt is one of the huge rehabilitation supporter advocate for people with disability. Ironically
during Roosevelt s presidency people s attitude with disability remains the same negative. As World
War II begun in 1940 s and as predicted to World War I when World War II ended many Veterans
returned home disabled and put on high demands on government to provide the rehabilitation and
vocational services and make sure that their disability are shown in public to make the change.
Meanwhile government assistance made some change but people with disability do not have a suffice
access to public transpirations and lacks of gain a job due to their physical appearance. It was 1960 s
when the civil rights movement began to notice in

Summary Of Paula Dan s Short Story Faces
Fibber Flowers From the beginning of their days, children are endlessly taught that true beauty lies
within, even if the exterior looks rather dull or repulsive. The skeleton of prejudice is based on not
wanting something or someone because of one s precomposed perception, despite the fact that the
receiver of the prejudice s true identity and character are unknown. Paradoxically, the thin coat of
glitter and gold can easily be used to conceal the coal and soot underneath. In her short story Faces ,
Paula Dan recounts a tale of a Janus faced man. The story, based on a similar incident that took place
in her mid teens, describes how a seemingly pleasant and caring man only uses his supposed qualities
to blind others of his abusive tendencies. Through the characterization of Mr. Stavros (aforementioned
man) instability, the symbolism of plants and metaphors, Dan vividly illustrates the concealment of
the indisputable disorder and obscenities within the Stavros household, no matter how many lies the
flowers feed the eyes of outsiders. When Mr. Stavros is first introduced, he is described as ... Show

The flowers growing around and decorating Mr. Stavros house are particularly meaningful in the
understanding of Mr. Stavros irrefutable urge to hide and avert eyes. Preceding his quick command to
stop looking at him, Mr Stavros informs the narrator that his wife, who remained unnamed, was
bothered by the fact that the overgrown flowers engulfed the house. Given that the house symbolizes
the family s dynamics and relationship, hiding it behind these beautiful and pretentious flowers
broadens the notion that the family bears darker secrets behind the petty flora. Mr. Stavros methods of
covering his true nature eventually failed him, and the narrator discovers that she does not want to

Cornelius Vanderbilt s Journey To The American Dream
Cornelius Vanderbilt Cornelius Vanderbilt, steamship owner, railroad builder, executive, financier, and
promoter. Son of a ferryman and farmer born May 27, 1794 to January 4, 1877 at Port Richmond,
Staten Island, New York, Cornelius Vanderbilt, received little formal schooling but was a very smart
boy. He dropped out of school because of being from a poor family so he had to help make ends meet
(history, 2015). As usual for common people at that time to drop out and work at the age of 11,
Vanderbilt did just that. Cornelius started transporting people and cargo at the age of 16 around the
New York harbor at .18 cent per trip (history, 2015). He borrowed his for $100 dollars from his
parents to purchase his very first boat, with the understanding

The Court Of Justice Of The European Union
Jaouad El Majdoub v. CarsOnTheWeb.Deutschland GmbH.
Judgement of the Court of Justice of the European Union (Third Chamber) of 21 May 2015
I. Introduction
With its almost recent ruling the Court of Justice of the European Union (hereinafter, CJEU) in the
case of Jaouad El Majdoub has focused on the concept of click wrapping agreement and its
compatibility with Article 23(2) of the Brussels I Regulation. Exclusively, the question of whether the
jurisdiction clauses which are incorporated within the general terms and conditions of the electronic
contracts via click wrapping method could be regarded as a durable record. The case that was referred
for a preliminary ruling to the CJEU by the Landgricht Krefeld German Court was ... Show more

III. Procedural History
As to the matter of jurisdiction, El Majdoub alleged that the Landgricht Krefeld is the competent court
to proceed with the case because, Cotw as the defendant in the main proceedings is the party to the
sale contract which has been concluded between them also it is based in Germany (not in Belgium).
On the contrary, Cotw argued that the courts in Germany are not competent authority to proceed with
the case based on two reasons. Firstly, on the website there is an agreement within Article 7 of the
general terms and conditions of online sales contracts that grants the jurisdiction to a court in Leuven,
Belgium. Furthermore, the defendant in the main proceedings contended that the real party to the
contract is the mother company which is established in Belgium while the plaintiff in the main
proceedings is well aware of that because the invoice which was sent to him contained the contract
details of the mother company and the money was paid to a Belgian bank account.
In spite of this, El Majdoub argued that the choice of court agreement acknowledged in Article 7 is not
in writing, so it does not comply with Article 23(1) (a) of the Brussels I Regulation. In addition, the
general terms and conditions of the sale contract were incorporated in a webpage which opens through

Homeostasis And Euphoria
First off, in animals or humans after using a drug for a while they develop what is known as tolerance.
Tolerance means that more and more of the drug is needed to produce that euphoric feeling that they
felt on the first time using the drug. Tolerance develops because of various cues in the environment as
they are taking the drugs. The body tries to compensate for the effect of the drugs by doing the
opposite. Let us say for instance this drug raises your heart rate, so initially your heart rate will be
raised but than your body who likes to be in homeostasis will counteract the drugs effect by lowing
your heart rate. The environmental cues are the CS that ensure that your body quickly achieves
homeostasis and hence your euphoria is brief,

The Age Of The Upper Class
From 1837 to 1901 marks a new era for England, as it is ruled under Queen Victoria bringing an age
of peace, prosperity, and a new nationalistic attitude within England itself. The large increase in
population and a shift to a trade and manufacturing economy brings a new sense of competition
amongst the citizens, developing a new value in aesthetics, status, and wealth to prove dominance in
the ever growing society. Economic success, an ideal which began as a strictly upperclass desire, soon
trickled down to the lower classes as new economic focuses permitted the conditions of the lower
classes to improve due to the growing demand in industrial jobs. With social mobility at several
poverty stricken citizen s footsteps, many could not help but to project the feelings of the upper class
in their social lifestyles. An overarching attitude of competition in Victorian era England brought way
to the diminishment of the former hierarchical notions as all classes displayed similar characteristics:
the fixation on vanity, the indulgence in hedonistic tendencies, and the corruption accompanying
influence, all of which are apparent in the dramatic novel The Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde,
and poems by Alfred Tennyson, Matthew Arnold, and Robert Browning. Oscar Wilde s exceptional
novel, The Picture of Dorian Gray, follows a seemingly innocent young man who initially partakes
under the wing of his accomplice, Basil Hallward, to let him paint him. After viewing the

The Boys in The Woods Our lives had flashed before our eyes, the car was tumbling down the road
with every hit of the ground the more I could hear my heartbeat stopping till everything went black.
Jack and I woke up in the hospital, Aunt April sleeping by my side. When she had seen that I had
finally woken she called the doctor in, I looked at Jack and called his name then he woke up in
shocked and repeating my name over and over again Johnny had rung in my ears till I saw his face
and I wanted to cry. Me and Jack look the same but he looked like a different person, I couldn t even
recognize my own brother. As the doctor came in he looked so sad I could feel his sorrow for me and
my brother. Both of you have minor injuries, said the doctor, However your parents did not......
survive the crash. When Jack and I heard those words we froze, we had never had anything taken
away from us we were always asking for more and more until finally the only people that loved us
were taken away from us. It s been a week since that happened and living with Aunt April is not that
bad once I had gotten pass the fact she only loves us since we are rich, well when we get our

Examples Of Knowledge In Rappaccini s Daughter
In society, especially in the time of the Enlightenment, pursuit of knowledge through the use of
rationality and reason was thought of as every man s goal. Thus, innocence had negative connotations
associated with it. When Romanticism began, thoughts associated with the Enlightenment were
thrown upside down. Nathaniel Hawthorne shows in Rappaccini s Daughter, through the characters of
Giovanni and Beatrice, how innocence is something to be valued. He shows how knowledge is a form
of corruption and how its pursuit is responsible for the ruin of their characters. Giovanni is portrayed
in the beginning of the story as completely innocent and unknowing. He knows little about this new
place where he came to study, and he longs for his hometown. In the physical sense he is a healthy and
handsome young man and is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He believes knowledge is a poison, leading to the decay and the loss on one s innocence. The pursuit
of knowledge turned Rappaccini into a monster. He was so obsessed with science that he would
sacrifice human life...or whatever else was dearest to him, for the sake of a adding so much as a grain
of mustard seed to his store of knowledge. Baglioni s pursuit of knowledge also corrupted him. He
becomes so preoccupied with bringing about Rappaccini s downfall that he himself descends to
Rappaccini s level. He orchestrates the death of Beatrice just to pull ahead in his professional rivalry.
The toxicity of the flowers in the garden is used as a metaphor for corruption or the lack of innocence.
Hawthorne demonstrates how innocence is something that once taken, cannot ever be returned. Once
Beatrice realizes the horrible truth, that she has been contaminated by the poison and transformed by
her own father into such a terrible creature, she wants her innocence back. Thus, when Beatrice drinks
the antidote made by Baglioni, it does not cure her of the poison but kills

The Importance Of Government Censorship On Social Media
In an age where more and more people are using social media for both personal and professional
reasons, there is an increasing amount of government censorship, as well as self censorship, evident
on widely used social media platforms. After conducting research on this topic, I have discovered the
very fine line between using social networking sites for personal uses versus professional uses.
According to scholars, while only 47% of nonacademics use social media for professional purposes,
about 91% of university faculty members use social networking sites in class or for other professional
reasons (Moran, Seaman, Tinti Kane, 2011). Professionals, particularly academic professionals, have
to keep a squeaky clean presence on social media. In this paper, I will discuss my research regarding
self censorship on social media, government intervention and censorship and what that means for the
American principle of free speech, and tell some stories of individuals who have personal experiences
with these problems.
Freedom of speech is a basic right in America, granted to citizens by the Frist Amendment to the
Constitution of the United States. Many countries do not have laws protecting free speech, and in fact
have censorship laws that do the exact opposite. Many Americans as well as other people around the
world use social media as a means of expressing their own views and opinions on topics such as
politics, world news, social justice issues, and simply to express themselves as

Children Of Lonliness By Anzia Yezierska
The bond between parents and children never deteriorates. Even in times of conflict, there is always
some love and unity between parents and children. However, as time goes on and generations drift
apart, different methods of behavior develop. The tensions between parent and child define the
conflict in Amy Tan s Two Kinds, Anzia Yezierska s Children of Loneliness, and Gish Jen s Who s
Irish. These conflicts explore the cultural gap between the two the way they act differently, their
behavioral differences, and their different thought processes are all conflicts found in the short stories.
Although there is always love and unity between parents and children, the generational divide between
parents and children is shown through the concept of
non obedience, the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The daughter could still learn, however, she chooses to disobey her mother and merely pretend to
learn piano.
This indirect rebellion is a central conflict in Two Kinds, both internal, through her thoughts, and
external, through her relationship with her mother. In Children of Loneliness, by Anzia
Yezierska, Rachel struggles with the generational differences to a degree in which she indirectly
dehumanizes her own family. She [jumped] up from the table in disgust; I ll never be able to stand it
here with you people (Yezierska, 178). She refers to her own family as you people as if they are a
different species or race, even though they are her parents who raised her. These two examples
demonstrate the conflict between parents and children as well as the concept of non obedience in the
new generation. However, another factor is parenting style.
The shift in parenting styles through time further differentiates the parents and children with changes
in parenting and punishment. In Gish Jen s Who s Irish, the parenting styles of two generations clash
over their daughter/granddaughter, Sophie. Two perspectives fight over how

Gymnastics Research Paper
In gymnastics math plays a crucial role in tricks and stunts. If a gymnast does not have enough power
to complete a trick at the right angle the trick will not be safely completed. There is also math in how
gymnastics are judged and how skills are rated. There are five different values of grading a skill, the
skills are A, B, C, D, E and F. For each skill level the difficulty point increases by one tenth. The goal
of a gymnast is to get a perfect score of ten (Isport, rules and regulations). In gymnastics, there are
four apparatuses; for women s there are floor, beam, bars and vault and for men there are floor,
pommel horse, rings, and parallel bars and horizontal bar. All the different events are judged on what
is required for the level of the gymnast. For each level, there is more tricks and stunts that need to be
incorporated into a routine. The floor is twelve by twelve meters, or 39.97 feet. The area of the floor
mat is 144 m2 or 1,597.6 ft2. The length the gymnast has from diagonal corners is 56.6 feet, ... Show

Solar System Formation
Ideas concerning the origin and fate of the world date from the earliest known writings. However, for
all that time, there was no attempt to link such theories to the existence of a Solar System , simply
because no one knew or believed that the Solar System, in the sense we now understand it, existed.
The first step towards a theory of Solar System formation was the general acceptance of
heliocentrism, the model which placed the Sun at the center of the system and the Earth in orbit
around it. This conception had been gestating for thousands of years but was only widely accepted by
the end of the 17th century. The first recorded use of the term Solar System dates from 1704.
The formation and evolution of the Solar System began 4.6 billion years ago with the gravitational
collapse of a small part of a giant molecular cloud. Most of the collapsing mass collected in the center,
forming the Sun, while the rest flattened into a protoplanetary disk out of which the planets, moons,
asteroids, and other small Solar System bodies formed.
This model, known as the nebular hypothesis, was first developed in the 18th century by Emanuel
Swedenborg, Immanuel Kant, and Pierre Simon Laplace. Its next development has interwoven a
variety of scientific disciplines including astronomy, physics, geology, and planetary science. Since
the dawn of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Many moons have formed from circling discs of gas and dust around their parent planets, while other
moons are thought to have formed independently and later been captured by their planets. Still others,
such as Earth s Moon, may be the result of giant collisions. Collisions between bodies have occurred
continually up to the present day and have been central to the evolution of the Solar System. The
positions of the planets often shifted due to gravitational interactions. This planetary migration is now
thought to have been responsible for much of the Solar System s early

The Influence of the USSR during the Cold War
..all these famous cities and the populations around them lie in the Soviet sphere and all are subject in
one form or another, not only to Soviet influence but to a very high and increasing measure of control
from Moscow.. (Churchill 6 7), this is a lesser known quote from Winston Churchill s famous Iron
Curtain speech. This sentence, in reality, is the sentence that comes right after the famous Iron Curtain
has descended across the continent quote, one that most Americans have heard in History Class. The
Iron Curtain related to a period of the Cold War where the USSR controls most of the eastern half of
Europe. History classes tell their students a lot about how America and the USSR were on the brink of
war; nuclear weapons could have destroyed the world at any given moment, the Iron Curtain over
Europe, that whole ordeal. The one thing that Social Studies classes never really covered was the
effect that the USSR had on the countries it occupied, influenced, or controlled, and even in today s
world, Russia still impacts similar territory as it used to back during the Cold War. Back during the
days of the USSR, the country had much control over Eastern Europe, including Lithuania, Latvia,
Estonia, Ukraine, Belarus, Czechoslovakia, eastern Poland, Hungary, Rumania, Yugoslavia, Bulgaria,
and of course, Eastern Germany. Many of the further away countries of the controlled area were not as
heavily influenced as some of the countries that actually became part of the USSR,

  • 2. Parenting Reflection Becoming a more competent communicator and disciplinarian, without escalating conflict is what I am working on, specifically with my five teenage children, ages 17, 15, 14, 14 and 14. After my divorce, my children were beginning to exhibit at risk behaviors, such as sneaking out of the home, disregarding family rules and expectations with regard to homework, chores and their overall safety. Eventually a friend who is employed with the Department of Children and Family Services referred me to Youth Services. This resulted in attending weekly classes for ten weeks aimed at reducing conflict and finding new ways to communicate with my children. The class is structured around the peer reviewed research of the same name, Strengthening Families, and provides an atmosphere for me to work with youth counselors who actively assist me in changing my parenting style to adopt a more collaborative approach. Through my research and attendance of the Strengthening Families classes, it became glaringly obvious that the approach I was taking to parenting, was not successful. One of my discoveries through this project is that overall, my children respond better to a collaborative approach and it is more meaningful to hold them accountable for their actions when we have all decided ahead of time what those consequences will be. While I have five children left in my home, I have an older son who is married and on his own, I have been parenting one way for a very long time and I found changing ... • 3. Examples Of Suspense In Stranger Things Suspense is when the author makes the reader, or audience excited or scared for what might happen in the story, or even what will happen to the character next in the story. Suspense might even be something you see or hear that will make you have questions about what will happen next. If there is a cliffhanger at the end of a story, it will leave you with questions wondering what will happen to the characters next. The mood, tone, setting, emotions of character, sound and sight might affect how the story is suspenseful. We all enjoy watching suspenseful movies and reading stories, because they are exciting. It leaves us with questions that the author won t have the answers to in the end, so the author gives us as the audience, the chance to make up their own ending to the story or movie. The author will give you clues throughout the story, to help you fill in questions you might have in the end. This makes it more exciting for the reader and the audience because we get to engage with the characters in the book or movie. The tv series, Stranger Things, is about 4 kids who have to fight off monsters in a little town in Indiana. This TV show is a great example of suspense, and it shows it effectively because, of Foreshadowing, Dilemma, and Dramatic Irony presented throughout the show. With just using those four examples, Stranger Things is a great example of suspense. The example, foreshadowing is when the writer gives the audience clues in the text or script about what ... • 4. The American Marketing Association ( Ama ) Introduction According to the definition from the American Marketing Association (AMA), a brand is a name, term, sign or combination of them intended to identify goods and services of one or a group of sellers and distinguish it from competitors. Brands play different roles in the lives of individuals (Ajgaonkar, 2012). But the roles they play depends on the individual (Kardes et. al, 2011), due to the fact that we are not all the same. According to Belk (1988), an individual may use personal possessions such as jewelry or clothing to help define an individual s sense of self Levy (1959) and Holam (1981) also support the statement by arguing that clothing has a symbolic attribute, which is used as a form of social interaction. The aim of this essay is to define the roles that brands play in my life and how they contribute to my sense of self. This will be accomplished by drawing on my personal experience with brands and with the support of academic material. To suit the purpose of this essay, I decided to use three brands; Converses, Playstation and Kurt Geiger. The Brands Converses is one of the oldest footwear brands. The brand initially produced shoes for basketball players but eventually converted to mass market. Converses portray a tough, masculine appeal that customers would associate with the shoe brand. The brand also falls under the excitement dimension, which portrays, a spirited, imaginative and daring characteristic (Aaker, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Development of Apple Inc. on a Time Sequence Basis Introduction This assignment is examining the development of Apple.inc on a time sequence basis. Its objective is not to make a list of this American multinational corporation technological products. Many people interested in technology already know that! More importantly, this assignment focuses on Apple s ideas, visions, communication, challenges, competition, deals, sales and financial aspects. Once it grasps a good knowledge of the development of this company, the assignment tries to analyse this company in a more economic related approach. But why have I chosen Apple? To tell you the truth, up till a few years ago, to me Apple was just a fruit. It all changed where at one point in time, I was tired with my Windows desktop PC. It was slow, crashed all the time and full of unwanted viruses. A friend of mine suggested buying an Apple desktop computer. To this day I m still excited of owning this technology as if it is first day that I bought it! What is Innovation? In 1982, an employee on the Macintosh team Thought that we should do some market research to see what customers wanted . Steve Jobs, Founder of Apple replied, No, because customers don t know what they want until we ve shown them. Our job is to figure out what they are going to want before they do Apple is born On April 1, 1976 the company was established by Steve Jobs, Steve Wozniak Ronald Wayne. • 6. The Political Opposition Of Executions routine; there were days when more than 100 persons were executed. Amnesty International documented 2,946 executions in the 12 months following Bani Sadr s impeachment, a conservative figure because the authorities did not report all executions. The pace of executions slackened considerably at the end of 1982, partly as a result of a deliberate government decision but primarily because, by then, the back of the armed resistance movement had largely been broken. The radical opposition had, however, eliminated several key clerical leaders, exposed vulnerabilities in the state s security apparatus, and posed the threat, never realized, of sparking a wider opposition movement. The December decree, however, implied no increased tolerance for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In February 1983, the government arrested Tudeh leader Nureddin Kianuri, other members of the party Central Committee, and more than 1,000 party members. The party was proscribed, and Kianuri confessed on television to spying for the Soviet Union and to espionage, deceit, and treason. Possibly because of Soviet intervention, none of the leading members of the party was brought to trial or executed, although the leaders remained in prison. Many rank and file members, however, were put to death. By 1983 Bazargan s IFM was the only political group outside the factions of the ruling hierarchy that was permitted any freedom of activity. Even this group was barely tolerated. For example, the party headquarters was attacked in 1983, and two party members were assaulted on the floor of the Majlis. In 1984 Khomeini denounced the Hojjatieh, a fundamentalist religious group that rejected the role assigned to the faqih under the Constitution. The organization, taking this attack as a warning, dissolved itself. For most Iranians the reciprocal obligations and privileges that define relations between kinsfolk from the parent child bond to more distant ones have been more important than those associated with any other kind of social alignment. Although Bakhtiar won the qualified support of moderate clerics like Shariatmadari, his measures did not win him the support of Khomeini and the main opposition elements, who were now committed to the overthrow of the monarchy and ... • 7. Q A Case Study 3.a. Brands cannot be expected to last forever versus there is no reason for a brand to ever become obsolete. In reality brands can exist forever if they are managed to stay in step with their target customers unmet needs, preferences, wants and strive to exceed their expectations. Brand familiarity and execution are key to the longevity of any marketing strategy, and to attain this over time brand marketers must stay agile enough to shift with customer s needs, both actual and planned (Palmer, 2010). Consider Proctor Gamble and their approach to branding soap over the last one hundred years, where the product itself was changing and continually improving yet the brand equity accumulated over decades of consistent execution (Srivastava, 2009). The ability of a brand to stay agile and take risks is also predicated on how much trust it has created and keeps fueling over time with its customer bases as well (Urde, 1994). A brand can survive over a very long time by concentrating on the customer first and their needs, making those the galvanizing force of the entire branding network (Sarkar, Singh, 2005). Brands can continue on in perpetuity if they also stay true to the unique and most differentiation aspects of the businesses they work to represent. Brands in many cases will drive an entire company to revolutionize key processes, systems, and roles of key people in the organization to stay more in step with customer needs (Sarkar, Singh, 2005). • 8. Why Is It Important To Keep Summer Break Do you remember how excited you used to get for summer break? Now imagine not having a break at all, having to continuously learn new subjects all year long. Exhausting isn t it? There are some schools where there would be a 3 4 week break in the summer, but the winter break is longer than ours. Personally, I believe that we should keep our summer break the way it is because: both students and teachers deserve a break from school, constantly having new information drilled into your head all year long is bound to put stress on anyone, and there are countless students who depend on summer break to work and/or travel. First off, students and teachers would not be able to stand each other by the end of the year. If the county had all year round school, we would all start resenting each other because of all the time we would be forced to spend together. Also, I know a couple of teachers who gave up one job for being a teacher because of summer break. They have time to travel and do whatever they want in the summer instead of being stuck in a building with teenagers all day. Plus, teachers also deserve a break from grading papers and talking until their voice is gone to kids who are probably not even listening. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Imagine how much those levels would increase if we had school with no breaks. School is honestly stressful enough as it is; with the amount of work that we get on a daily basis, it s no wonder we are more anxious than before. • 9. Teen Pregnancy Rates Paper This week s assignment had me take a closer look on how environment truly influences teen pregnancy rates in my community. Teens living in poverty have a greater likelihood of becoming pregnant than teens living in affluent communities. What causes this disparity? Social and environmental factors are in large part responsible for the disparity. The adults in lower income families are often less educated, have a criminal history, hold low income jobs, or are unemployed. Lower income communities are plagued by gun violence, gang inhabitance, and the availability of drugs. Teens that become pregnant at an early age, have parents that themselves were pregnant as teens ( Teen Pregnancy Facts, Teen Pregnancy Statistics Teen Pregnancy Environmental ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... According to the CDC, Teen pregnancy rates are highest within the Hispanic and African American demographic ( Social Determinants and Teen Pregnancy / Teen Pregnancy / Reproductive Health / CDC, 2015). This trend can be linked to neighborhood income inequality and lower educational opportunity for these demographics ( Social Determinants and Teen Pregnancy / Teen Pregnancy / Reproductive Health / CDC, 2015). In my Voicethread post I addressed the idea of generational poverty for many families in urban communities across the country. Adolescents and teens that have grandparents and parents that live in poverty are more likely to experience poverty in their adult lives. Low income families rely on multiple forms of government aid, including food stamps, rent assistance, and other governmental subsidies to decrease their financial burden each month. Cyclic poverty is among the most difficult patterns to overcome. Decreased economic prospects for young girls in urban environments steer them towards teen parenting (Kempner, 2013). Watching their parents get by is enough motivation for vulnerable young women to take the plunge into parenthood. However, parents that seek education and personal betterment often seek safer environments in which to raise their children, breaking the cycle of poverty for their families. The educational push by the adults in their lives should be there for teens, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. Miss Ever s Boys Film critique Essay Bioethical Issues: Miss Evers Boys Introduction Miss Ever s Boys is a docudrama film that was produced by the HBO cable network. The movie explores ethical and social issues involved in the infamous Tuskegee Study. The study was about untreated black men with syphilis. The U.S. Public Health Service is said to have conducted a study among 600 black Americans from the years 1932 to 1972. This study was done in Macon County. This paper will exclusively explore the critique the Miss Ever s Boys film using ethical frameworks. The ethical framework includes beneficence, justice, and respect for persons, duty based ethics, virtue based ethics, and the right s based ethics. The paper will identify how the above listed ethical principles were ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the movie, Miss Ever s Boys , only blacks were included in the study. The study recruited 600 black men and none white person. To start with, this was discrimination of the highest order. This means that only the black men were at the risk of dying, considering that they treated them with placebos. This means that only the black men s lives were endangered while the bioethics requires that the risk to be distributed equally (B. Miss Evers Boys and the Tuskegee Syphilis Study, 2013). Respect for persons means that people have a right to fully exercise their autonomy. Here, people need to be given a chance to make their own choices. In the film, Miss Ever s Boys, it is clear that the participants were not respected at all. The first show of disrespect was when the U.S. Public Health Service decided to conduct a study and lie to the participants that they were going to offer them cure to syphilis. The second disrespect shown was the discrimination in the study where only the blacks were selected. Lastly, the U.S. Public Health Service disrespected the participants knowing that it was dangerous. Therefore, the respect for person ethical principle was not meet in the movie Miss Ever s Boys . Duty based ethics are based on duty or obligation. Kant argues that there are higher principles that are good in no matter the time, situation, or culture. Therefore, when faced with ... • 11. Descriptive Lake House Essay It was chilly. It always was. The slight breeze and the overcast clouds provided a gray morning, which to some foreshadowed a sad and droopy day but I saw the hopeful rays of sunshine attempting to leak through the dull, gray bars that separated the warm sun from the cool ground. The lake house: a place where I enjoyed the fruits of having a friendship with the daughter of the family who owned the house. From wakeboarding to tubing to boat rides the lake offered all the amenities one could hope for in a fairly large body of water. Yet these forms of entertainment only amount to the smallest fraction of why the lake house is so integral to my contentment. The dock has a fine hardwood finish that prevents painful splinters, plenty of comfortable lawn chairs to sit in, an emerald green table where I have played countless hours of Settlers of Catan, and an American flag that flutters majestically in the wind. The view, needless to say, is breathtaking. In the chilly, gray mornings that accompany my lake house visits, I wake up early, amble to the dock, plop down on a comfortable lawn chair, and gaze out into the body of water that is Weiss Lake. The smooth waves undulate across the calm surface of the lake as if a herder is flocking his sheep slowly back into the red barn house. • 13. Education Is The Failure Of The Public School System We are living in a illusion, where the public school system is working fine to our requirements.Over the years, millions of students are dropping out of public schools, and the number is still increasing at a rapid rate. Most parents still have the mindset that the public school system will provide plenty of opportunity for their children in the future. But in reality our public school system has done very little more than just babysit their children. The public school system has failed its students, especially in most black communities and other minority communities. Most public school students are in distress because the United States has a poor education system. The main reason the public school system has failed its students is because of lack of fund and qualify teachers. The public school system is a poorly funded program. In the Federal Spending: Where Does the Money Go article it show that the United States spend only 6.28 percent on education and spend 53.71 percent on the military. This is outrage and people are blind to those facts. The government does not invest that much money on education compared to other programs. Due to the lack of funds, most public schools can not afford to provide text books which is an essential tool for student development. Without the necessary books how can the students learn? The government has created a program that was doomed to fail from the beginning. • 14. Anthem For The Underdog Analysis This has been one of the hardest papers I actually had to write for there are so many songs and events. Most would say I have a somewhat normal life during this last decade. With the War on Terror started in 2003, I was in high school at Goose Creek High School. During this time I was careless, childish, prideful, stubborn, and somewhat idiotic. I dropped out of high school and became a bum. Eventually I grew up a little and decided to go to Job Corp in Bristol, TN. I attended there GED and trade program which I graduated with both. After graduation in 2006, I joined the Army six months later. The song that comes to mind is Anthem for the Underdog by 12 Stones. The song reminds me of how I started out and how I became something else entirely due of the challenges I faced at the time. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Though I faced many challenges from mortars and rockets, at that time the most challenging was learning how to deal with people. At the end the tour I had changed and became colder with a cruel way of looking at life with a mean sense of a humor that somewhat shielded me from others. The Attack on Constantinople by the Crusaders The Attack of Constantinople by Crusaders In his account of the Crusaders siege of Constantinople, the Byzantine historian Nicetas Choniates, provides some compelling reports concerning the behaviors of the Christian knights and peasants who formed the Crusader army that sought to wrest control of the city from its defenders. In his account, Choniates makes the point that the Crusaders little resembled the good hearted Christians they purported to be, but were more like a barbarian horde in the brutality of their actions when reaching the city, which was a major center of the Christian faith at the time. Moreover, the Crusaders had even sacked another Christian city, Zara, on their way to Constantinople. It was clear, then, that these Crusaders were less interested in wresting the Holy Land from the Moslems than they were in taking advantage of this opportunity to unjustly enrich themselves at the expense of anyone who happened to get in their way. Unfortunately, Choniates also emphasizes in his account that these actions were not those of just a few overzealous Crusaders, but were rather characteristic of the actions of all of them. For instance, Choniates reports that, Nor, indeed, were these crimes committed and others left undone, on the ground that these were of lesser guilt, the others of greater. Summary Of Paula Dan s Short Story Faces Fibber Flowers From the beginning of their days, children are endlessly taught that true beauty lies within, even if the exterior looks rather dull or repulsive. The skeleton of prejudice is based on not wanting something or someone because of one s precomposed perception, despite the fact that the receiver of the prejudice s true identity and character are unknown. Paradoxically, the thin coat of glitter and gold can easily be used to conceal the coal and soot underneath. In her short story Faces , Paula Dan recounts a tale of a Janus faced man. The story, based on a similar incident that took place in her mid teens, describes how a seemingly pleasant and caring man only uses his supposed qualities to blind others of his abusive tendencies. Through the characterization of Mr. Stavros (aforementioned man) instability, the symbolism of plants and metaphors, Dan vividly illustrates the concealment of the indisputable disorder and obscenities within the Stavros household, no matter how many lies the flowers feed the eyes of outsiders. On the contrary, Cotw argued that the courts in Germany are not competent authority to proceed with the case based on two reasons. Firstly, on the website there is an agreement within Article 7 of the general terms and conditions of online sales contracts that grants the jurisdiction to a court in Leuven, Belgium. Furthermore, the defendant in the main proceedings contended that the real party to the contract is the mother company which is established in Belgium while the plaintiff in the main proceedings is well aware of that because the invoice which was sent to him contained the contract details of the mother company and the money was paid to a Belgian bank account. In spite of this, El Majdoub argued that the choice of court agreement acknowledged in Article 7 is not in writing, so it does not comply with Article 23(1) (a) of the Brussels I Regulation. The Age Of The Upper Class From 1837 to 1901 marks a new era for England, as it is ruled under Queen Victoria bringing an age of peace, prosperity, and a new nationalistic attitude within England itself. The large increase in population and a shift to a trade and manufacturing economy brings a new sense of competition amongst the citizens, developing a new value in aesthetics, status, and wealth to prove dominance in the ever growing society. Economic success, an ideal which began as a strictly upperclass desire, soon trickled down to the lower classes as new economic focuses permitted the conditions of the lower classes to improve due to the growing demand in industrial jobs. With social mobility at several poverty stricken citizen s footsteps, many could not help but to project the feelings of the upper class in their social lifestyles. An overarching attitude of competition in Victorian era England brought way to the diminishment of the former hierarchical notions as all classes displayed similar characteristics: the fixation on vanity, the indulgence in hedonistic tendencies, and the corruption accompanying influence, all of which are apparent in the dramatic novel The Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde, and poems by Alfred Tennyson, Matthew Arnold, and Robert Browning. Examples Of Knowledge In Rappaccini s Daughter In society, especially in the time of the Enlightenment, pursuit of knowledge through the use of rationality and reason was thought of as every man s goal. Thus, innocence had negative connotations associated with it. When Romanticism began, thoughts associated with the Enlightenment were thrown upside down. Nathaniel Hawthorne shows in Rappaccini s Daughter, through the characters of Giovanni and Beatrice, how innocence is something to be valued. He shows how knowledge is a form of corruption and how its pursuit is responsible for the ruin of their characters. The Importance Of Government Censorship On Social Media In an age where more and more people are using social media for both personal and professional reasons, there is an increasing amount of government censorship, as well as self censorship, evident on widely used social media platforms. After conducting research on this topic, I have discovered the very fine line between using social networking sites for personal uses versus professional uses. According to scholars, while only 47% of nonacademics use social media for professional purposes, about 91% of university faculty members use social networking sites in class or for other professional reasons (Moran, Seaman, Tinti Kane, 2011). Professionals, particularly academic professionals, have to keep a squeaky clean presence on social media. In this paper, I will discuss my research regarding self censorship on social media, government intervention and censorship and what that means for the American principle of free speech, and tell some stories of individuals who have personal experiences with these problems. Freedom of speech is a basic right in America, granted to citizens by the Frist Amendment to the Constitution of the United States. Many countries do not have laws protecting free speech, and in fact have censorship laws that do the exact opposite. • 31. Solar System Formation Ideas concerning the origin and fate of the world date from the earliest known writings. However, for all that time, there was no attempt to link such theories to the existence of a Solar System , simply because no one knew or believed that the Solar System, in the sense we now understand it, existed. The first step towards a theory of Solar System formation was the general acceptance of heliocentrism, the model which placed the Sun at the center of the system and the Earth in orbit around it. This conception had been gestating for thousands of years but was only widely accepted by the end of the 17th century. The first recorded use of the term Solar System dates from 1704. The formation and evolution of the Solar System began 4.6 billion years ago with the gravitational collapse of a small part of a giant molecular cloud. Most of the collapsing mass collected in the center, forming the Sun, while the rest flattened into a protoplanetary disk out of which the planets, moons, asteroids, and other small Solar System bodies formed. This model, known as the nebular hypothesis, was first developed in the 18th century by Emanuel Swedenborg, Immanuel Kant, and Pierre Simon Laplace. This sentence, in reality, is the sentence that comes right after the famous Iron Curtain has descended across the continent quote, one that most Americans have heard in History Class. The Iron Curtain related to a period of the Cold War where the USSR controls most of the eastern half of Europe. History classes tell their students a lot about how America and the USSR were on the brink of war; nuclear weapons could have destroyed the world at any given moment, the Iron Curtain over Europe, that whole ordeal.
