2. Civil Liberties And The Government Of The United States
Legal historian Geoffrey Stones claims that the government of the United States has in the past
overreacted in times of war and crisis, and has seriously violated many civil liberties. A democracy
requires high levels of civil rights, liberties, and political openness in order for its citizens to fully
participate in political election, and other governmental activities; however, the demands of national
security usually require much less openness, secrecy, and limitations on civil rights and liberties.
Throughout history there have been times were large numbers of individuals have experienced
political discrimination and have had great difficulty exercising their civil liberties. Ethnic minority
groups, and immigrants have been among the most targeted by the government in times of crisis.
Under conditions of war, American civil liberties and political participation are usually curtailed and
violated in many ways by the government, usually with the active support of some groups and people
in society. Times of national security threat are often accompanied by what historian Richard
Hofstadter calls the paranoid style in American politics. In other words, war produces preoccupation
with internal threats to national security, and some groups with in society are targeted as security ricks
because of their ethnic or political belief. This paper will briefly explore different times and crisis
were civil liberties have been obstructed by the government for national security

Sir Phillip Sidney s Sonnet #47 from Astrophil and Stella
Sir Phillip Sidney s Sonnet # 47 from Astrophil and Stella The sonnet is a short concise form of
writing and it takes a great mind to master it. By mastering it, I mean to be able to say so much in
what seems like so little space. Sir Phillip Sidney comes as close to mastering it as anyone else in his
time or any other does. As the opening line says, this is about a betrayal. Strangely enough, the last
line of the sonnet ends with a word that is the very essence of betrayal. The sonnet ends with the word,
lie. This would cause one to expect to get an explanation of the betrayal between the first and last
lines. This appears to be a story of both love and betrayal. In the ... Show more content on

In the second, line is questions whether he wants the spirit to show that he despises his love. He has
wanted her for a long time and he is in misery without her, he is in this deep misery and the only thing
he has is his despise for begging. The third quatrain is different from the first two in its format. The
first line is indented and the other three are not. This would cause one to think that this line is set apart
for a reason. The first two words say why, it is an exclamation to wake up. It is meant to stand out
much like a mother coming into a child s room and yelling wake up very early in the morning. Here,
the narrator is telling Virtue within himself to awake. He wants to do the right thing. He realizes that
although this girl is beautiful, he does not love her and he must let her go. It is not fair to hold on to
someone in a relationship or in the words of the first quatrain, keep someone a slave to you, if you do
not love them. This is a commentary from over four hundred years ago that is still true in relationships
today. Today, people will date or stay together in an unhealthy relationship for stupid reasons or
superficial reasons and either one or both of the people do not love the other. The last couplet, the
closing lines of the sonnet, also tell the story of relationships today. In the beginning of the
relationship he thought that he may have been in love with her.

Are organized activities or creative play more important to a child s development? Some people would

play is not critical to a child s development but organized activities are. Many people believe that
creative play is no longer as essential as it was once believed to be and that organized activities
actaully provide more benefits. They say that since being involved in an organized activity requires
commitment, teamwork, and hard work it can help children become responsible adults. They also

6. Understanding Hate Crimes And Recognizing Victims
Hate crime is defined as a crime in which the perpetrators conduct is motivated by bias or prejudice
toward the actual or perceived race, colour, religion, national origin, gender, disability, or sexual
orientation of another group or individual. (Winterdyk, 390). This kind of crime is not new to Canada
and it can be seen through the treatment of Aboriginals in Canada, as well as the current treatment of
refugees from areas in the Middle East. Hate crimes are a heinous crime that deprives individuals of
essential rights such as the right to dignity. Understanding hate crimes and recognizing victims, it can
be easier for individuals to understand what social changes can be made. The Conflict theory views
crime as the product of social and/or economic disparities in society and suggests that people resort to
criminal activity in response to division and competition. (Winterdyk, ) This theory draws on the
separation and competitive impulses of people which is often found when dealing with prejudice.
Canada is a very diverse country, so many communities have different cultural groups which may
compete or create a division within the community and may progress its way to crimes of passion, but
legally defined as a hate crime. Generally, hate crime is an action or vocalization against a specific
group or individual. There are four main types of hate crime are outlined in the Criminal Code of
Canada, Sections 318 320 which state: Advocating Genocide, Publicly Inciting Hatred,

Who defines peril and promise? (Add static to conclusion) When a new technology is created there are
two distinct parties who define whether it is full of promise or peril: the creator and those who are
affected by the creation. The definition used by each party varies massively on the technology that
was developed. The creator of a new technology is often the first person to determine whether or not it
will bring peril to society. In almost every case, the technology is constructed with the intentions of
promise, bringing a net benefit to society.

The reception of an alien message could result in any number of reactions from the population of

and remote areas. An area such Aurukun, located in North Western Queensland (Cape York), is an

communities and other remote communities in the Northern Territory are also susceptible to domestic
violence.
The causes of domestic violence amongst Indigenous Australians is not attributable to Aboriginal
culture. Instead, the patterns of current domestic violence originate from the violent dispossession of
the land between the Europeans settlers and Indigenous Australians.

9. Alphone Bertillon s System
Alphonse Bertillon was born in Paris on April 24, 1853. He was the son of the distinguished
physician, anthropologist, and physician, Louis Adolphe Bertillon (bookrags.com). Young Alphonse
was seen as hopeless through his fathers eyes. He often suffered from migraine headaches, and
nosebleeds, and was very shy and lacked social skills. However, the young Bertillon was not a
complete loss, he was an intellectual who had a thirst for knowledge and shared his father s interest in
statistics and anthropology (http://jimfisher.edinboro.edu). In the year 1875, Bertillon was conscripted
into the french army. After several years of armed service Bertillon was discharged. With no higher

He also noticed that the mug shots that were taken by indifferent commercial photographers, were of
very low quality and often the offenders intentionally distorted their faces while being photographed
to disguise their appearance. Bertillon had a general understanding of the anthropological statistics
and anthropometric techniques from the work of his father (bookrags.com). This was in the most basic
sense the study of human statistics and the measurements and proportions of the human body.
Bertillon was soon able to devise a system of identification of criminals which relied on 11 bodily
measurements as well as the color of the eyes, hair, and skin. He also added standardized photographs
of the criminals to his anthropometric data. (http://www.nleomf.org/) Bertillon believed that if several
body measurements were taken and recorded the likelihood that any two people would have the same
dimensions and measurements would be extremely rare or even nonexistent. Now that Bertillon had
conceived a way to record criminal records effectively, he had to devise a way to store all his gathered
data in a way that an individual s record could be located, within minutes, from thousands of other
body measurement records. Alphonse Bertillon soon developed a unique filing system for the criminal
records. He would first subdivide the eleven body measurements into small, medium and large.

10. Making A Band Or Start Writing Music
When people create a band or start writing music, they want money. In the early 20th century, artists
were not receiving the royalties that they should have earned. Enter the first Performing Rights
Organization which is also called a PRO that promised what the artist should be earning, money.
PROs were fine until the organizations realized how much money they can earn. PROs exist for a
reason, but the cost of the license, why they are non profit , and why the artist has to sign with PRO s
that make PROs truly evil. In February 1914, the first PRO in the United States was formed. Music

But not all of the artists are under one PRO, so the person must buy a license from each PRO that
represents the artist s music that they would be playing (Public Performance Licenses and Music for

always in court suing small businesses for copyright infringement. On average, the lawsuit ends up
being $700 $30,000 depending on the severity of the infringement. Depending on what license they
are applying for, the cost varies. License fees range from $300 $500 and could cost more depending
on some variables like if the music would be for a dance studio or for a church (Public Performance
Licenses and Music for Your Small Business). A PRO might sound like a good thing, right? But you re
wrong because the PROs goal is to make a profit for the company. An organization s job is to make
money, and then they pay taxes on the revenue they receive. If an organization says they are non
profit, they usually do not have to pay taxes on the revenue they earn. PROs like ASCAP and BMI say
they are non profit, which means more profit for the artist, right? Wrong (Why You Should Think
Twice Before Joining ASCAP, BMI or SESAC). Members of the ASCAP earn 86.5 cent for every
dollar that the ASCAP earns. But isn t the other 13.5 cents profit? But PROs do that for one specific
reason, to trap artist. The

First Peter has been called by some the epistle of hope. The book of First Peter is a very encouraging
and also doctrinal text for Christians today. It tells us to have courage in our daily lives as Christians
and gives us reasons why we should have perseverance. First Peter also tells us how we should treat
each other in our relationships as brothers and sisters in Christ. As we strive to live with God by our
side, this book also tells us that suffering will occur in our lives and how we should deal with those
struggles. This book of only 105 verses is filled with words that give a remarkable sense of hope.

Most of the writing echoes Peter s own personal experiences during the apostolic times and with that
the conclusion that he must have been the primary author of First Peter.
According to Gordon Fee, the first epistle of Peter was written around 64 65 A.D. from the city of
Rome. Peter mentions Babylon in his writing, but this is actually more of a nickname of some sort for
Rome. He could have been referring to the ancient city of Babylon, but this is most likely not the case.
Babylon and Rome are very similar in that they were both worldly cities undergoing persecution of
Christians, but Peter is probably referring to Rome as the Babylon of the day.
The recipients of First Peter were mostly Gentile believers in five provinces of Asia Minor: Pontus,
Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia, and Bithynia (Fee 402). Paul or some of his workers had founded churches
in some of these areas, and the churches addressed were made up of mostly Gentiles, but also some
Jewish members too. There are a few comments made by Peter implying a Gentile audience in regards
to their previous impure lives when they lived in ignorance, but there are also some Jewish terms used
that could imply that these Gentiles could have been Jewish proselytes (Kelcy 11).

established by Baron Montesquieu in De l Esprit des Lois (1748) can be seen as an integral part of any

executive, the legislature and the judiciary.
In Lord Woolf s statement: The separation of powers has never been part of the framework of our

been said, that as the United Kingdom has an unwritten Constitution we have a need for trust and
accountability in our public bodies and another need to enhance the credibility and effectiveness of
our public institutions. This is further recognized by Lord Steyn: Central to the Rule of Law in a

Violent crime statistics is continually increasing overtime, and there are a wide variety of factors that
contribute to this. One influencing factor would be the media. Media and violence are both very wide
and broad concepts that have massive impacts in our society, and it is important to distinguish their
relationship with each other. The types of media are things such as violent video games, films,
newspapers, magazines and television. One particular type of media that is often very problematized is
violent video games. Different studies have shown convincing and unconvincing correlational in
regards to the media and violence, but to whom do we believe?
The media, especially in today s modern society surrounds us all the time. It affects our daily lives and
has become part of our everyday routines, which is why it has such a huge impact on us, and violent
media is everywhere. It is known that by the time we get to our eighteenth birthday, we will have seen
and witnessed about 200,000 violent acts and about 16,000 murders (Media Education Foundation,

contributes to violent and aggressive behaviours and whether one is caused by the other. Violence
includes, but is not limited to things such as murder, assault, homicide, shootings, property offence,
rape and assault. The mainstream and popular notion has been that violent video games make people

Sandhill occurs in the uplands on crests and ridges of gently rolling topography. Sandhill is
characterized by an open overstory of widely spaced longleaf pine (Pinus palustris), sparse understory
of fire suppressed deciduous scrub oaks and a diverse groundcover of grasses, forbs and low growing
shrubs. Soil is deep, excessively drained, marine deposited sand of the Lakeland series. Rapid
permeability allows for expeditious aquifer recharge with little to no runoff, however, nutrients are
easily leached, hence soils are generally infertile. In order to maintain open structure, this xeric upland
habitat requires frequent (3 to 5 years), low intensity, growing season fire.

drew sharp criticism from many people, especially from members of the African American
community. They found him being self loathing rather than racial unification (Claypool 2). Toomer
has been criticized for failing to write about the experience after Cane. Many people said he denied his
African American heritage out of shame and cowardice (Claypool 4). Many critics have credited his
work with ushering in the Harlem Renaissance noting the book s representations of African American
characters and culture. Others have located it within the lost generation owing to its literary
experimentation, romantic primitivism, and its critiques of postwar values (Jones 3). The analysis of

youth and the programs that he has started to support youth. Geoffrey Canada describes the
progression of violence that had happened in his lifetime. He also points out that there is a disturbing
difference between what the streets were like in the 1960s compared to those of today. Mr. Canada is a
great storyteller and is thoroughly convincing. His Book Fist Stick Knife Gun, is a great explanation
of violence and poverty in late 20th century here in America. His story of how he changed from a

would escalate with other weapons like a knife. Mr. Canada grew up in the South Bronx in the 1960s,

Competition is slim to none in the North American wholesale industry due to the three companies
using a low cost provider marketing strategy. For Costco, potential new entrants, according to the five
competitive force model, are the strongest. Costco is dominating the wholesale industry and therefore,
have low competitive threats coming from new rivals. Entry barriers in the industry are low due to the
limited wholesale industry competition. Memberships to Costco, BJ s and Sam s Club make members
unwilling to switch to other companies. This provides an exclusive service that stores such as Family
Dollar and Dollar General does not provide.
2. Costco, BJ s and Sam s Club has highly similar strategies in terms of memberships and being a low

each. During its inception, Costco had about 56 percent share, Sam s club had roughly 36 percent, and
BJ s had about an 8 percent share. According to the text, Costco s strategy was to open more new

1 Joining a Child In A Beauty Pageant Needs To Be Restrained As Claimed By Psychology Students
In Silliman University Child beauty pageants have been a topic for debates and studies regards to its
credibility being safe for children. A child pageant competition consists of several categories such as
swim wear, casual wear, talent portion, question and answer, evening gown or theme wear.
Contestants may wear make ups, elaborate hairstyles, designed and fitted outfits to present themselves

16 years old child is allowed to choose to do a beauty pageant and if she wishes to wear something
revealing. Pageants could potentially lead body image issues. Child beauty pageants could sexualize
children and teach young girls that their worth is dependent on their physical appearance. Joining a
child in a pageant could also fuel fears and sexualization harassment. It fuels fears in a way that they
might me traumatized with the experiences they had during the pageant. According to Claire Lindsey,
the sexualization of little girls is a dangerous path to follow and beauty pageants are only doing more
harm to the future generations of women. The pageant world for young girls can ultimately ruin their
childhoods, essentially forcing them to grow up too soon. The costumes and the makeup they wear
and the big hair sexualize these little girls, way before they should become sexual. Parents should be
teaching their little girls that beauty can be seen in all shapes and sizes, not by how much make up
someone wears. Standing in front of the crowd wearing fancy and revealing costumes harasses the
child. One of the largest issues that deal with childhood beauty pageants is the problem of little
children being forced to be dressed in revealing costumes which ruins their innocence. Sometimes it is
already too much that these kids wear cleavage attires

A View from the Bridge by Arthur Miller A View from the Bridge is a 1950 s play written by Arthur

case Eddie Carbone falls to a tragic and yet a predictable inflicted death. I will be explaining the
difference in culture between America and Italy and how this could have affected the outcome of the
play. The play A View from the Bridge was written by Arthur Miller and is set in Brooklyn America.

John Green once said, It s quite rare to find someone who sees the same world you see, a fitting quote
to define the works of American author, Edgar Allen Poe, known for his short stories written in the
1800 s. Famous works include The Black Cat , The Tell Tale Heart , and Berenice before his untimely
death in 1849. Often ridiculed for his absurd stories, Poe was fueled by his many losses in his
childhood, including his mother and wife, and alcoholism. Many of his stories are that of the horror

Berenice follows Egaeus who is a man about to marry his cousin, Berenice. Egaeus often finds
himself lost in thought and succumbed to a trance like state where he looks over many qualities of
Berenice. As she is deteriorating from a disease which is unknown to the reader, we see her teeth as
the only part of her to remain intact. Egaeus, in a fit of unconsciousness, pulls her teeth from her
mouth and finds them in a box next to him when he comes to reality again. Although there is no time
shown where he committed the horrendous act, the narrator awakes from his haze by the sounds of a
woman s shriek. The teeth were hers, and the narrator was petrified by his actions he had no memory
of doing. Poe uses the narrators gaps in memory to emphasize the lack of control he has, and in doing
so, proves further that he is an unreliable narrator. Teeth has the symbolic meaning of health and
beauty; the narrator saw the love of his life slowly begin to die and decided to keep what he most
admired as a symbol of his love, something that would never die. Evil is a consequence of good and

whatever idea might pop into your head? Only decades ago, no home held these things. Computers

Because they are being replaced faster, more products are being disposed of, even if they are still

28. Yet, A Reading Of Deleuze’S Concept Of ‘Becomings’ Enable
Yet, a reading of Deleuze s concept of becomings enable to approach the transitions from girl to
woman as discontinuous. Opposed to a measured linear unfolding and the idea of moving forward
evolution, it ought to capture the movement and doing of subjectivity as always in process. The
movement is thus rhizomatic, separated in multiple directions, thus divorcing the established idea of
linear transition. Feminine adolescence is not a transition from one state to another but a contingent
and in some senses reversible movement. Becomings therefore disrupt the public imagined
temporality which consider the innocent girl to slowly transform into an experienced sexual woman. It

29. Social And Social Class In Charles DickensGreat Expectations
In the novel Great Expectations, author and social reformer, Charles Dickens presents an appropriate
example of hope in class mobility. Social and financial status performs a real role in our society, even
today. Similar to Dickens time, the well off tend to get more acknowledgment and the lower class
tends to get a bad reputation for being uneducated citizens. He hoped to rectify to improve society.
The primary theme is social class has no connection to moral merit.
The novel is narrated from the point of view of the main character, Pip. He narrates to the audience
throughout his life, illustrating the contrasting stages from childhood to gentleman. In Pips belief,
becoming a gentleman will automatically construct happiness in himself. Pip was a child whose
parents died when he was very young. He tells the story of being raised by his sister, Mrs. Joe and her
husband, Joe Gargery, whom Pip shares a special kind of camaraderie. I wished Joe had been rather
more genteelly brought up, and then I should have been so too. (ch.8) Unfortunately, the three of them

30. The Positive Impact Of Technology In The Classroom
This paper explores four published articles that analyze on the effects of classroom technology and its
relationship with students behaviors and learning achievements. The articles, however, have different
statements toward the impacts of classroom technology, either positive or negative. Alaeddine,
Parsaei, Kakosimos, Bing, and Mansoor (2015) assert that the classroom technology has a positive
impact on both the students learning process and the teachers willingness on innovative knowledge.
Also, Sarder (2014) adds that a unique combination of the online courses tools can arouse students
interests. However, Muir Herzig (2004) states that the use of technology in the classroom has no
critical influence on students grades and participation. Moreover, the barrier to integrating technology
into classrooms is a vital obstacle currently, according to Wachira and Keengwe (2010). This paper
examines all four research papers mentioned above to suggest that whether the classroom technology
can produce a positive impact on education depends on the integrating process. It is claimed that an
appropriate way to integrate the classroom technology is the essential part of the students learning
process.

INTRODUCTION
A lot of businesses are facing challenges to succeed in a global competitive market. Demands from
customers is constantly and rapidly changing in terms of the sophistication of the products and
services they require and because of this, interest on performance measurement and management
(PMM) has notably increased in the last 20 to 30 years. This report discusses the problems and
difficulties of performance measurement and management system design interventions of management
accounting fields in today s business environment. It also gives a literature review, critical analysis
and findings on this topic.
PROBLEMATIC ASPECTS
All through history, many organisations have used performance tools to assess the success of the
organisation. Assessment of performance has predominantly been based on financial criteria since the
Middle Ages. (Burns, 1998). Performance measurement tools are used to monitor what management is
doing with factors such as share price, return on investment, profit percentage, sales volume etc.
There was a growing development in the 1980s that traditional performance measures were no longer
adequate enough to manage organisations competing in modern environments. It has been put to the
attention of many authors on this topic that financial information is historical and gives insufficient
indication of the company s performance. It lacks strategic focus and often inhibits innovations.
However, it encourages short term goals. It usually focusses

33. An Analysis Of Rick Moody s Boys
Each story makes use of a very unique tone and form of narration yet these same qualities can be
compared to some extent across these essays. The authors utilize different forms of writing to convey
their intended focus to the audience. I found each story relative to one another in that they all seemed
to touch of the subject of the roles of different genders in our contemporary society maybe even across
different cultures.
Rick Moody s short story Boys is written with a distinct style. The author uses a form of a stream of
consciousness to convey the purpose at hand, which encompasses writing as if without hesitation or
editing whatever came to Moody s thoughts, he transferred to text. There was also a substantial use of
the word boys , placing emphasis on the central meaning of the story. The style is thoroughly
descriptive and fails to leave any details of the boys lives out. This quality donates a sense of reality
and creates a bond between the reader and the characters. The tone of the story comes of as
particularly unbiased and serious, as if the author were just stating purely factual information. As
events become more somber in the boys lives, the author approaches a more sympathetic tone. The
boys were supposed to be kids, fooling around playing games and living a care free childhood, but
these boys found themselves in scenarios no boy or child should ever encompass.

34. Deep Sea Sounding On Challenger
11. Deep sea sounding on Challenger HMS Challenger sounding logs show that by September 1873,
the Baillie was used to conduct most of Challenger s deep sea sounding work. Unlike a wire sounder
tested and rejected earlier in the voyage, the Baillie sounder was able to move within the ship s
existing system of instrumentation and materials. As with HMS Sylvia, sounding was conducted from
the mainyard, and a steam engine on the deck helped to retrieve the sounder from the ocean floor.
Similar to the Hydra, officers timed and calculated the Baillie s rate of decent. When the sounder
slowed, the ocean s depth was ascertained by the length of the sounding line. 12. Other instruments It
is often overlooked that the Baillie sounder worked as a system with other instruments. In addition to
the sounder, several thermometers, a water collection bottle and a pressure gauge were often attached
to the hemp sounding line. In this manner, the Baillie sounder worked in concert with several other
instruments collecting information about the ocean floor. The ability of the Baillie sounder to transport
sea floor materials to the surface was useful for the laying of telegraph cables, but also essential for
scientific analysis. Samples of the ocean bottom provided key evidence for developing theories about
life in the deep ocean, and how species evolved over time. For example, in 1865 zoologist Thomas

35. Wallace Stevens Disillusionment Of Ten O Clock
Wallace Stevens falls in the category with America s most respected poets. Stevens wrote many of
poems that got him to that prestigious category. Stevens was born in 1879 in Reading, Pennsylvania
and he took his last breath in August 1955 due to cancer. Harvard University is where he was educated
on literacy and was very successful at his time spent there. One particular poem he wrote is short
poem Disillusionment of Ten O Clock in 1915 and it was published in his first book of poetry at the
age of forty four known as, Harmonium . In the book Harmonium , Stevens published eighty five of
his best poems that a century later are still contributing to modern day poetry. While reading a poem a
reader can have plenty of different thoughts or may interpret the meaning to the poem differently than
others. That being said, it all just depends on your knowledge and the way you view things. Not every
person is the same, so not everyone is going to agree on the meanings of poems and there is nothing
wrong with that. Therefore, the truth about poems is only the writer really knows the meaning and
readers can just guess and make assumptions of what they interpret. After reading Stevens poem,
Disillusionment of Ten O Clock the beginning seems to be describing a typical dull household that is

gowns that are bland. The second half of the poem talks about how the people in white

How did North Korea become the cruel country that scorches both surrounding and distant nations
with its sternly severe socialist flame? Subjugated by Japan in 1910, North Korea was mercilessly
enslaved for thirty five years. Due to Japan s defeat in World War II in 1945, the United States
occupied the southern region of the Korean Peninsula while Soviet troops seized the north. As a result
communism spread like weeds. Sadly, North Korea s government, military, and economy were all by
shaped by the leftist views suppressed on them. The root of the problem was Kim Il Sung, the first
premier of the Democratic People s Republic of Korea. At the urging of the United States, the United
Nations General Assembly established elections, introduced a constitution, and formed the Republic
of Korea in South Korea. The North Korean government evenly divides the tasks of leadership among
numerous officials as this obligation requires careful attention. In accordance with their constitution,
the head of government is the premier; Choe Yong rim presently occupies this position. Specifically

A few years ago on a hot summer day, a short Asian boy stared at the sky at disbelief. A roller coaster
loomed over him, and the shadow of it cast over his face. In a few hours later, he found himself
strapped into a seat on the ride, terrified to death. And that short Asian boy turned out to be me. Mom,
my sister, Julianne, and I were at Sea World in San Antonio. Although we ve already been there
multiple times, she insists on going there. It probably has to do with us having a membership and her
being a cheap Asian mom. She wouldn t let us buy any food or drinks, or any souvenirs. Except that
dumb stuffed penguin that she bought Julianne that she managed to rip in my room and make a huge
mess that I had to clean up. Anyways, the shows at Sea World are always the same, so we are left with
a few choices, to rewatch the shows, go to new animal exhibits, or go on some rides. We quickly went
through the new exhibits, and between all these exhibits were the two largest rides in the park. One of
them was what I call the traditional roller coaster, where it goes up slowly so you can enjoy the
beautiful view of the park, then plunge down suddenly, your heart filled with fear and your ears filled
with screams. The other was even worse. It twisted around and went upside down and then went to the
moon. Suddenly, Mom asked Would you like to ride any those rides? You seem really bored riding
these kid rides with Julianne? Two things popped up in my mind. The wimpy side of me was saying:
No, there is no way you are going on those roller coasters. The other side of me said: Sure, I don t

sure, that sounds great, no, shut up, me. It did not sound great. And yes, I did talk to myself. Then, she

my house is like finding an oasis in a desert, once I get closer, I realize there are no Hot Cheetos. Once
in a blue moon, Mom would buy a large bag of Hot Cheetos, and the day after the blue moon, the bag
will mysteriously disappear. And so I had to say yes. I haven t mooched on the legendary snack food

Bonhoeffer s writings on the call to discipleship, discipleship and the cross, discipleship and the

Bonhoeffer it allowed for me to broaden the way I view theology and the following of Christ. The

reason at all. He lived the perfect life and brought people to the Lord. So for Jesus to be put to death
by the people they abandoned him. They left his side and left him to suffer on the cross. On the cross
was where Jesus died a miserable death and suffered greatly. The last thing described by Bonhoeffer
was that the cross represents guilt. He described how Jesus was the bearer of all sins for humans. Now
Christians become the ones who bare other individuals sin and guilt. To sum up the cross it has many
meanings and it signifies a lot in Christian religion. After Bonhoeffer finished writing about the cross
he wrote about discipleship and the individual. This is about how God made people as individuals.
God made us to be alone and be lonely. He did this so we would have someone to go to in these lonely
times and this person is Jesus christ and God. In this chapter Bonhoeffer really discusses how we

sins it truly shows how caring and how much he values our lives. If Christ is willing to die for us and
our sins we should at minimum bring him into our lives. We should recognize what he did for us and

40. Emotional Appeal Of Virginia Woolf
Throughout Virginia Woolf s speech to the Women s Service League, she does her best to inform the
audience about how women should overcome oppression in the professional world as a necessary
change in society. Woolf s intentions are to build an emotional appeal to put help put the audience in
her place. Through understatement, symbolism, and diction, Woolf develops a well stated opinion in
hopes to enlighten her audience to the issue. Woolf starts her speech off by portraying strong
understatements. In paragraph 1, she starts off by saying, It s true. I am a women; it s true I m
employed . She uses a level of sarcasm when presenting this part to show that although she is a
women, she has excelled well enough to become employed in the professional world. After this, Woolf
states that her literary career was cut many years ago and that it built her career by making her path
smooth and regulating her steps. Although her literary career was a helpful, she tries to play it off as
though it was easy for her; in reality she faced many challenges. Then she goes on to state, because
paper is so cheap, women have been more successful as writers than anything else. This allows Woolf
to imply the financial differences between men and women, without blatantly saying so. Woolf is
making it seem as though this career is easy just because it s the profession she was able to excel in.
She uses understatements for two reasons. First, to create a connection with her audience. In a way
that they see her as a peer, rather than a superior power. Secondly, she uses it to help create a sense of
serenity among women who are too hesitant to start a profession. In sum, Woolf s use of
understatements aids in portraying her argument to her audience. By exploiting strong symbolism to
the consciences of her audience, Woolf informs her audience about The Angel in the House. This is a
poem written in the 19th century about how women were oppressed and how they sacrifice themselves
to impress; this in which is still going on today. The Angel in the House helps symbolizes the
oppression and the low standards set for women. For example, in paragraph 3 the Angel talks about
how women should only show certain traits, such as sympathy and

When discussing love many different thoughts come to mind. Everyone usually has their own opinion
regarding the controversial word. Everyone views love in a different light, but sometimes might
contain some similarities. In The Lady with the Dog and Hills Like White Elephants both portray a
skewed point of view on how each individual view what love is to them. Both pieces vividly show
love in a conditional way. True love is not conditional, but it is: not lustful, unconditional, and it is
everlasting. First off, in both readings it discusses two individuals in a sexual relationship where
neither are married. They are both living an unrealistic lifestyle that almost makes the existence of
love impossible. There is an ongoing affair in The Lady with the Dog where they are both trying to
live their normal lives, but yet at the same time trying to keep their relationship afloat by having the
mistress coming to visit Dmitri Gurov in Moscow. However, in the beginning of the story, it displays
Gurov as a womanizer and a man who views women to satisfy his sexual needs. As the story continues
it describes a time he went on a regular vacation, but ended up meeting a woman with a dog that was
married at the time and who was also a virgin. He then ends up taking her virginity and slowly
develops feelings for her. He persists in seeing her after the vacation and they meet on several
occasions. He steadily realizes that this love will not work and he sees the unrealisticness of the whole
situation. This love is to be considered as limited and immortal. In Nietzsche s book, The Gay
Science, it discusses a counterpoint, Love forgives the beloved even his lust (72). This views love in a
lustful sense, whereas that is the main reasons for Gurov pursuing any type of relationship in the first
place. Also in Plato s, Phaedrus it proclaims, ...not only while his love continues is he mischievous and
unpleasant, but when his love ceases he becomes a perfidious enemy... (Plato). This goes to prove how
Gurov felt while he was in his love crisis. He would try to make his lifestyle look glamorous to the
outside world while on the inside he was not anywhere near to being happy in the end only hurting his

42. Challenges Women Confronted in the 1990s Essay
Four important challenges confronted women in the 1990s: increasing practical literacy, gaining
access to employment opportunities at all levels in the economy, promoting change in the perception
of women s roles and status, and gaining a public voice both within and outside political process.
There have been various attempts at social and legal reform aimed at improving women s lives during
the twentieth century. Indeed there may be contradictions inherent in the gender agenda of some
nationalist projects, yet more and more steps are being taken so women can participate actively in
programs especially in the area of the physical sciences. This is an area where women are now
becoming more and more recognized. In the nineteenth ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Muslim societies, in general, appear to be far more concerned with trying to control women s bodies
and sexuality than with their human rights. They either do not speak of women s rights at all, or are
mainly concerned with how women s chastity may be protected (Abdullah, 1988).
Women are the targets of the most serious violations of human rights, which occur in Muslim societies
in general. Muslims say with great pride that Islam abolished female infanticide; true but it must also
be mentioned that one of the most common crimes in a number of Muslim countries is the murder of
women by their husbands. These so called honor killings are, in fact, extremely dishonorable and are
frequently used to camouflage other kinds of crimes (ibid).
Female children are discriminated against from the moment of birth, for it is customary in Muslim
societies to regard a son as a gift, and a daughter as a trial from God. Therefore, the birth of a son is an
occasion for celebration while the birth of a daughter calls for commiseration if not lamentation. Many
girls are married when they are still minors, even though marriage in Islam is a contract and
presupposes that the contracting parties are both consenting adults. Even though so much Qur anic
legislation is aimed at protecting the rights of women in the context of marriage, women cannot claim
equality with their husbands. The husband, in fact, is regarded as his wife s gateway to heaven or hell
and the arbiter of her

43. The Olympic Games Or A Party
The Olympic Games or a Party The Olympics are a special spectacle for everyone, and for sixteen
days every two years we are witness to the best athletes in the world. Only for the rare few the dream
to compete are a reality, but for the billions of other people, this is an event of pride and passion for
their home country. The continuous cycle of new cities and different countries hosting the games
brings out great nationalism. The challenge to get a bid to host the Olympics has always been difficult
but as the cost of the games rises the number of cities vying for it is decreasing. The Olympics are the
biggest sporting event in the world, and they are one of the most well known events across the world.
Being host to an event like this brings great revenue into a country s economy through tourism and the
need for jobs and construction. But the Olympics are becoming very costly and countries are
beginning to wonder if its worth it to host the party when they know they will not earn all the money
back. The Olympics ruin economies and the games tend to hurt countries more than help them. The
games are played every two years alternating between the summer and winter Olympics. It roughly
plays host to about 90 countries all vying for one goal, the gold. The Olympics originated in ancient
Greece with the first ever recorded games occurring in 776 B.C. For the first thirteen Olympics only
one event occurred, but now the number has risen to three hundred events which puts great

44. The Importance Of Language As A Multiple Language
Language is a powerful weapon used for a variety of purposes. It is a way for people to communicate
effectively and voice their thoughts, ideas, opinions, view and beliefs. We live in a world of seven
thousand languages to communicate with and a great percentage speak more than one. For this reason,
there is only one language that truly defines us; our native language. Our native language is a part of
our culture, and creates the foundation of who we are as individuals. It is a way to distinguish
ourselves from the rest of the world. The opportunities provided to those with multiple languages are
far greater than those who are not. Although, speaking multiple languages is beneficial, individuals
with multiple languages still face criticism, judgement and rejection from their own people. Therefore,
importance of proper word selection, correct grammar is quite significant depending on who you
communicate with. Growing up, I was fortunate enough to learn and speak two different languages;
English and Spanish, However, speaking Spanish was not always my specialty. I often faced criticism,
and judgement from my own family, primarily from my extended family, on how I spoke the
language. According to them, my Spanish was broken, and the way I spoke the language was
incorrect. I remember asking myself, If my Spanish is incorrect, then what is the correct way to speak
it? . As a little kid, I never really understood the purpose for their comment, but as I grew older, I

45. Commercial Arts In High School
As I stood at the top of the steps, my excitement grew. I slowly made my way downstairs. As I looked
around the corner, I saw that my wish came true. You see, this Christmas, I had asked for an art desk
and there it was full of art supplies. I immediately began drawing and painting which led to wet
pictures and messes all through the house. I could not put down my new art supplies. I used and used
them and constantly asked for supplies to be replaced.
Fast forward a few years and I am found staring into the Commercial Arts class at my high school.
Upon taking a few steps into the room, I looked at all the classroom had to offer. Tables, computers,
and every kind of art supply you could think of were located in this room. This room had me
mesmerized.

47. Comparing and Contrasting. Nettles, Harmonium and Praise...
Compare and Contrast 3 poems from AQA GCSE Anthology, Moon on the Tides. In this piece of
writing I will be comparing and contrasting 3 poems. Which are Praise Song for my mother ,
Harmonium and Nettles. The title of each poem describes exactly what it is and what is about. Praise
Song for my Mother is not actually a poem, it is a praise son. Which in Guyana (where Grace Nichols
was born) it is something written after a person close to them has dies. It is written to commemorate
and rejoice about a persons life. Nettles is a story about a Scannells son who falls into a pit of stinging
nettles. Finally, Harmonium , Harmonium almost says what it s about in its title. If you break it down
it makes harmony, which symbolises ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the final line of Harmonium Armitage says Too starved of breath to make itself heard which means
that Armitages father is dying very quickly but neither of them want to talk about it. It shows that this
is the first time the subject has been brought up, and at this stage it is clear that Armitages dads death
will be imminently soon. This can also be the shock and realisation of what is going to happen in the
near future. Throughout the poem it shows higher emotions, as the concept of death gets drawn in
even further than it has already, it s almost like that it s telling the story of his childhood as both of
them get progressively older. This is almost exactly the same as Praise Song as throughout the poem
the words she uses in the stanzas are more powerful and have more depth to them. When Grace
Nichols says her mother was mantling to her it could mean that her mother was the core to her
survival and well being. On a secondary level, the core can also mean that her mother was the core to
her success and great life. She was the one who was always the heart and sole of everyone as she was
such a great person and cared for everyone. The flame tree s spread to me reflects the beautiful
wildlife of Guyana, with the rainbow like colours. This shows that her mother was happy, and full of
life. This links in with Harmonium when Armitage talks about The sunlight through the stained
