Equifax Data Breach Analysis
An analysis of the Equifax data breach Introduction A recent increase in large scale data breaches has
exposed a multitude of cybersecurity vulnerabilities that pose a definite risk to consumers (Lorio,
2017). In some cases, a data breach can distress an establishment so much that other organizations
experience a backlash from the repercussions (Kosseff, 2011). The Equifax data breach of 2017 is a
perfect example of this kind of event as it caused an overwhelming economic repercussion that
affected other major corporations and more than 143 million credit card customers worldwide
(Janakiraman, Lin, Rishika, 2018). The consumer records appropriated in the Equifax data breach

Racial Diversity And Community Colleges
Racial diversity is a term that describes the variety and nuances in the color of human skin.
Throughout the course of education, students with darker colored skin experience discrimination and
are not granted the opportunities they deserve. As the United States becomes more racially and
ethnically diverse, institutions...are [asked] to prepare students to live and work in an increasingly
multicultural society (Jones 249). The article describes research done in 2008 that investigates the
relationship between racial diversity and community college normative campus climate. This research
is important because the majority of research done within the heading of diversity and campus climate
are focused on 4 year colleges (Jones 251, 259). The critical

The Importance Of Being A Class President
Good afternoon class ladies and gentlemen, thank you for allowing me to have the privilege of
speaking in front of you today. About this time I m supposed to get up here and tell you a little short
story about myself, and start off like ever since I can remember, I have always wanted..... But instead I
m be different and start it off a little something like this. I have not always wanted to be your class
presentant, but what I have always wanted to do is say something that we all do not have the guts to
say. The reason I believe I am the right candidate for this class president because I too don t believe
that teachers and other staffs doesn t care about what we have to say or what we believe would be
right for us, see if when we are going over the syllabus and we all are asking questions we get the
response that we didn t want or hope for, If you vote for me I will have the desire to help make a
change, I will help with extracurricular activities, money, and fights will be the issues I plan on mainly

Those Winter Sundays by Robert Hayden Essay
Those Winter Sundays by Robert Hayden tells about a child s indifferent relationship with his father.
The poem explains all of the things the father did for his child without being asked or thanked. It then
jumps to the child s point of view and tells what they say as a child as to what they see now as an adult
looking back. The child, who is now grown, shows signs of regret as he looks back at how he treated
his father, who sounds to have passed away. Finally, in the final lines the speaker realizes that the
father s relationship was filled with love.
In the beginning two sentences of the poem, the speaker talks about his father getting up early on
Sundays too, the word too should be emphasized because it shows that this means the ... Show more

The speaker talks of waking as the blueblack cold is subsiding and beginning to splinter and break as
the fire his father lit melts it. However, even once the house is warm the father merely calls to the
child to wake. He does not rush the child, this known when the speaker talks of how slowly he would
get up and get dressed. This shows the tender side of the father, who wakes up early every day of the
week in the cold in order to support his family and to keep them warm.
In contrast, in line nine, the speaker talks of chronic angers in the house. This could refer to the father
or the family being unhappy or angry. However, it could also be that the speaker is using
personification and referring to the house as being angry. Perhaps there have been bad events such as
hardships that have occurred in the house that have left behind an angry vibe. Whatever the case may
be, the anger is defined as chronic, meaning that is serious enough to strike fear into the speaker and
persists for long time.
In line ten the speaker talks of how ungrateful and unfazed or unconcerned the speaker is with his
father. This part may refer back to line five where the speaker said the father was never once thanked
for going out of his way or anything he did. The speaker may have been so indifferent that he was just
blind as a child when it came to everything his father did. However, the indifference could also be

Essay on My Views on God and the Nature of the Universe
A worldview is an opinion on how you see society as a whole. Each person s worldview is impacted
by their culture, religion, family friends, etc. I am a Pentecostal Christian and a Romanian and these
two aspects impact my worldview immeasurably. Jesus Christ is our Lord and Savior and He died on
the cross for each person on this Earth. Even though each person has sinned and turned their backs on
God countless times, Christ was always there for us no matter what we did. His love is greater than
any love we have ever encountered and His grace is immensely great. How do we know who God is
and the nature of the universe, what is our purpose and what happens when we die, and how do we
know right from wrong are some of the main question people ... Show more content on

If one believe s there is a God who has created them for a reason then life has purpose. He gave us a
purpose to live and that is to follow Him and give glory to Him in everything we do (Kelsey, 2012).
When we die, we are judged by God and we either go to heaven or hell. What determines this is if we
believe Jesus Christ died for our sins, rose again, and through Christ we are able to have a relationship
with God (Kelsey, 2012). People ask why I believe in Christ and how I know that everything in the
Bible is true and they are astounded when they hear my answer. First, believing that there is a God,
believing that there is no God, and believing that there are many gods all have one thing in common:
faith. Without faith, how can we believe or not believe in something? If a person says, I have no faith
in you, what exactly does that mean? It means that, that person does not believe in someone and that
they have no trust in them. It is the same in any religion. One has to have faith to believe in
something. A friend told me that she saw someone who I looked like. Even though I didn t see what
she saw I still put my faith in her and believed her. The Bible says everything in it is true (2 Timothy
3:16 17 NIV). The Bible is historically correct and no one has proven that wrong (Hovind, 2014).

Micah And Henri In A Company Of Fools
Comparative essay Micah and Henri, from Ellis Novel A Company of Fools, are very different people
when they meet each other for the first time but as the story progresses their similarities begin to show.
They are both orphans that have been taken in under the religious monks of St Luc. Micah was
snatched from the jaws of death on the streets where he lived, sung and stole, unlike Henri who grew
up with the nuns from an early age and then moved to the monk s Abbey to become a choirboy. As
Henri began his time at St Luc he was known as a quiet and shy boy but as Micah came into Henri s
life his attitude towards others changed. Henri and Micah start off by not enjoying each other s
company very much but as their time together progresses they become closer and closer together until
they are the best of friends. Micah and Henri are both orphans that have been taken into the careful
hands of the monks of St Luc and although they are both orphans they both grew in very different
backgrounds. Henri grew up in the monks and nuns care since a young age but Micah was forced to
survive on his voice and stealing. Micah told us Fever, he died when my mother died. The fever took

The Short Happy Life Of Francis Macomber Analysis
The short story The Short Happy Life of Francis Macomber, by Ernest Hemingway, tells the tale of an
African Safari and a man s journey to becoming courageous. The story focuses on Francis Macomber
and his transition from a life of cowardice to a life of courage. Hemingway surrounds Francis with the
secondary characters of the story, Margot and Wilson. Margot is Francis trophy wife, she believes that
her husband is a coward and has little respect for him. Wilson is the classic Hemingway character, he
is assertive, good with women, and shows no fear. These three characters exemplify the three types of
people that Hemingway believes to exist in this world. Margot Macomber, Francis wife, epitomizes
what Hemingway thought of women. She only focuses on her appearance, both her physical
appearance and her status. Hemingway went out of his way to mention her modeling career showing
her vanity and desire for others to see her beauty. Hemingway focuses more on her attempt to
maintain her high status image through her husband. When Francis had shown cowardice and a lack of
strength, she would then be ashamed of him and gravitate towards men that she found more
respectable. In the story she had an affair with Wilson, he was everything that she could wish for in a
man, strong, courageous, and not an embarrassing coward like her husband. Margot felt
disappointment with the weakness that Francis displayed during the incident with the lion. She
became upset when Wilson was talking about the incident and said, Let s not talk about the lion, she
felt shame because of her husband s actions and she worried about how it would reflect on herself.
Hemingway deliberately had her act this way because he felt that all women only care about status and
appearances. Robert Wilson, the safari guide, represents the manly man and what Hemingway
believes to be a man. Wilson embodies the ideal man, he is courageous, strong, fearless, and overall
acts like the quintessential man. Throughout the story he shows a lack of fear while facing the most
vicious and deadly animals on the face of the earth, he also has sex with a married woman, asserting
his dominance. Through the majority of the story Wilson is the foil character for Francis,

Commonplace Book Analysis
A little over three months ago, I, along with thousands of other freshmen, embarked on a scary, yet
exciting new chapter in our lives. Most of us, myself included, thought that we were well prepared for
our first classes as college students. If I were asked what I had learned during college, I would have a
hard time stating anything other than useless facts related to my classes. My commonplace book
includes posts from throughout the semester that express my progression as both a student and a
person.
While I was rereading entries from my commonplace book, I was reminded of the dejected feeling
that I had at the beginning of each unit. It was almost amusing to me to see how fearful I was of each
project and then see how I gradually progressed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The first tag is learning . It may seem obvious but I learned so much about not the only the writing
process, but in my self too. Nearly all of my entries in the commonplace book discuss some lesson
that I learned from the time when I figured out MLA format to when I finally realized how to revise
the style of my papers. The second tag is Fear of Failure . One of my favorite quotes is from Gena
Showalter that says Giving up is the only sure way to fail . One of my biggest problems throughout
the semester was being discouraged right from the beginning, which I talked about in each unit
reflection. Once I overcame the fear of screwing up the project, I was finally able to get to work and
spit out some pretty good material. My third tag is Resiliency . I thought about combining resiliency
and fear of failure but the more that I thought about it, I realized that they were completely different.
Resiliency deals with the extreme amount of effort that I put into each any ever piece that I brought to
class even though I would rather be doing literally anything else. It also covers all of the times when I
had no clue what I was doing and had to start over from scratch, even though I could have easily
turned in a piece that would have received an okay grade. Differences is my fourth tag. The idea of
differences first came to me when we were working on the Op Doc analysis and each had videos that
were all polar opposites of each other. Not only were the styles of our Op Docs different, but so were
the styles in which we wrote our analyses. In high school we learn how to do everything just like one
another, but in college we finally open our eyes and see that being different is what makes us who we
are. My final tag is Creative Edge . It took me to the late half of the semester to finally find my
creative edge. Because it took me so long to find it, I had started to think that

Moreover, Loffreda mentions that the media is broadcasting an inaccurate appearance of Laramie and
overdraws the crime of Matt Shepard. She considers the media and many people as religious or
political leaders who are now talking about the Matt Shepard case as fake hypocrites. Loffreda
expresses her negative impression towards the people who show up to the protests after the incident,
states that there was a tremendous outpouring of support the vigils, the parade and a lot of people not
all of them, not even a substantial portion, but some of the people if they had known that Matt was gay

stretched into a nationwide issue that has a huge influence around the world. What Loffreda doesn t
admit, is that the media plays an important role in promoting concern of discrimination towards
minorities and more people are actually paying attention to the issue and trying to fix it. Nevertheless,
Loffreda does not catch that and she also generalizes those people as hypocrites, which is exactly what

Explain Why The Royal Air Force Saved Britain
The Royal Air Force saved Britain from the Nazi regime. In the beginning of the summer of 1940, war
broke out over the United Kingdom between the German Luftwaffe and the British Royal Air Force.
The fighting started because of the fall of France to the Nazi s. The Nazi s looked to Britain as their
next territory they wanted to occupy. Germany had a plan that they were beginning to draw up.
Operation Sea Lion called for an assault on Britain by gaining air control over Britain. On the British
side, they had a powerful air defense system. Within the air defense system there were the fighter
pilots. The leader of the Luftwaffe was Herman Goring and the leader of The Royal Air Force fighter
pilots was Air Marshal Hugh Dowding. He is considered ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As retaliation to the bombing of London, he ordered his Royal Air Force to bomb Berlin the next
night. The leader of the Luftwaffe, Herman Goring, said, you can call me Meyer (Wyatt Info Poland).
This was a joking remark towards Churchill. This statement was saying that Churchill would not carry
out his attack on Berlin. Goring was wrong and carried out his plan. That night eighty one British
Hampden bombers appeared over Berlin and delivered a blow that would halt Hitler s Nazi Third
Reich. After the bombing, Goring stated that a bombing of Berlin would not happen again. To his
surprise another bombing happened. Hitler was outraged and stated in a radio addresses to his people
if the British bomb our cities, we will bury theirs . He ordered Goring to start a brutal air raid on
London. The bombing hurt Britain, but gave much needed rest to The Royal Air Force. The British
could build back their bases and factories. With The Royal Air Force forces back with increased
numbers, they gave the Luftwaffe a beating and diminished their forces. With the numbers of the
Luftwaffe dwindling they could not keep up fighting The Royal Air Force. This led to a point where
all day bombings, and Operation Sea Lion had to be halted. The British had won the battle. Due to
these actions, a turning point in the war took place. The successful defense of Britain was a turning
point in WWII. If the Germans

The, Outliers, By Malcolm Gladwell
Success is nothing more than a few simple disciplines, practiced every day. (Jim Rohn) Malcolm
Gladwell s, Outliers, published in 2008, makes arguments about what it means to be successful, and
how one can become successful. Gladwell specifically mentions the 10,000 Hour Rule which states
that anyone who wants to reach a definite level of mastery must perform 10,000 hours of practice until
that level is reached. Some believe this rule to be invalid as those who are successful are born talented.
Though I recognize that some people are born naturally gifted, I still contend that anyone who wants
to become great at what they do, needs to do supplementary amounts of practicing as it utilizes one s
potential to the fullest as Gladwell ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Gracyn, always having relied on her natural ability, was unaware of the hard work and practicing it
would take for her to succeed and make one of the teams. She began putting in much more effort,
time, and practice. Consequently, she made the Ohio State University cheer team. Success is the initial
ability plus the extra practice one is willing to put in to achieve it. Extensive practicing leads to these
behaviors becoming a way of life. There s an old Latin saying Repetitio mater studiorum est. which
translates to Repetition is the mother of all learning. Repetition is the key to proper practice as it is the
best way for a person to learn. The more a behavior repeats, it becomes habitual. There is a moment
where you become so good at something that you don t have to think about what you are doing, it
comes naturally. A basic example of this is tying your shoes. We learned at a very young age how to
tie our shoes. We kept practicing and practicing until the point where it doesn t take any thought of
what you are doing. Natural talent paired with repetition creates a natural success.
Practice is beneficial only if the person genuinely is interested in what they are doing. Raymond T.

Iran Foxtrot Essay
The Iranian Foxtrot The 2009 Iranian presidential election and its aftermath is characterized by a
strange power dynamic between Ayatollah Khamenei s and the people where Khamenei is constantly
testing their reaction to his dictatorial action, seeing what he can get away with. After choosing the
president with no regard for the votes and levying threats at anyone who protested, Khamanei listened
to what the opposition has to say, allowing them to voice their opinion in many circumstances. This
pattern in Khamenei s action seems to reoccur in the elections aftermath, creating a cycle in which he

Marco Polo s Paradise In Heaven, Suzhou On Earth
When the Venetian merchant Marco Polo traveled to the orient, he saw many wondrous things. Two
cities that inspired him a lot were Suzhou and Beijing. In Suzhou he saw people who could conquer
the world and in Beijing he saw a city that had a standing truly unparalleled among the cities of the
World. These descriptions showed the immense greatness that both cities bestowed on guests from
abroad and it is something that hasn t changed over the years.
Over the years the Chinese gave Suzhou s grandeur this description: Paradise in Heaven, Suzhou and
Hangzhou on Earth. For Suzhou the splendor started in the year 514 BC when King Helu of the Wu
state decided to build a capital city near Lake Taihu. He tasked the project to his minister, Wu Zixu,
who designed the city to ensure environmental harmony. The effects of this can still be seen today as
modern day Suzhou is equal parts water and land.
Over the years this city has grown to become one of the most storied cities in all of China. Firstly,
Suzhou and its inhabitants have had a great impact of war. As the capital of the Wu state numerous
assaults were taken to cement the power of the state. Originally the name of the city was Wu to honor
the ruling power. This strong power was shown when King Helu managed to defeat the neighboring

Michael Royster, professor of Criminology at Prairie View A M University, would agree. In analyzing
the results of the original Scared Straight pilot program in 1978, Royster notices a large discrepancy in
the rates of recidivism of the pilot program compared to modern day Scared Straight style programs.
The rates of recidivism among participants in the pilot program are significantly lower than those who
participate today. In Petrosino s research, he found that 41% of children who participated in a Scared
Straight style program in New Jersey committed a new crime after the program, while a control group,
who came from the same background, but did not go through the program, showed only 11%
recidivism. In contrast, the results of the pilot program showed only 6% of the participants returned to
crime (Petrosino). Royster offers several explanations for this gap in rates of recidivism, one being the
Hawthorne Effect. The Hawthorne Effect describes the phenomenon in which one s reaction is
modified due to their awareness of being observed. The pilot program was televised, therefore,

appearance of long legs and arms in the proportion to the torso that resembled the features of the
modern man. According to scientists, these features mean that they had lost their ability to climb trees
and were living on the ground, unlike their predecessors (Gauthier).
The teeth of Homo erectus showed evidence of formation similar to that of ancient apes ( Homo
Erectus ). Its other superior nature is believed to be its ability to use stone tools such as hand axes.
There is also evidence of showing concern for their old ones and ensuring their well being

Real Men Drink Coke
CASE ASSIGNMENT: COKE ZERO Chapter # 8)
Do Real Men Drink Diet Coke?
When a couple of marketing managers for Coca Cola told attorney Elizabeth Finn Johnson that they
wanted to sue their Coke Zero colleagues for taste infringement, she was baffled. She tried to talk
them out of it, but they were determined. They argued that Coca Cola Classic should be protected
from the age discrimination it would suffer with the introduction of a newer, younger soft drink that
tasted exactly the same as the original. Frustrated, Finn Johnson held up the Coke can and shouted, It s
not a person! Title VII doesn t cover these things!

Coca Cola is now investing more money in Coke Zero than any other brand its size, hoping it will
someday be a megabrand for the company alongside Coca Cola Classic and Diet Coke. Chief
Marketing Officer Bayne is enthusiastic about the impact it may have on the company. We do see this
as potentially a bit of a white knight. There s huge opportunity to grow here.

1. What is the purpose, audience, and context of the text?
Fyodor Dostoevsky is renowned as one of the world s greatest novelists, being born in Moscow,
Russia in 1821. Dostoevsky s early view of the world was shaped by his experience of social injustice.
His father was murdered, while he was away at school, by the his own serfs the social system that
Dostoevsky despised. Dostoevsky had been imprisoned as a result of printing illegal socialist

Bacterial Cell Lab Report
Bacterial cells are smaller and simpler than plant and animal cells because they are prokaryotes and
lack membrane bound organelles. In addition, unlike animal and plant cells, bacterial cells lack a true
nucleus and mitochondria. Instead of a cell nucleus containing chromosomes, the DNA in bacterial
cells is arranged in a single circular strand in the cytoplasm.
Bacteria tend to multiply very rapidly under favorable conditions, forming colonies of millions or
even billions of organisms within a space as small as a drop of water. Bacteria also spreads and can
survive in extreme conditions via a process called sporulation. Sporulation involves repackaging
genetic contents into small reproductive bodies called spores, which contain little water, have a low
metabolism, do not divide and feature an impermeable, multilayered envelope. They can grow into
new bacteria once their environment replenishes its nutrients.
I was able to observe the shape of bacteria cells in this lab because millions of bacterial cells had
grown into colonies making them visible. 5 shapes of bacteria are spherical (cocci), rod (bacilli), spiral
(spirilla), comma (vibrios) or corkscrew (spirochaetes). They can exist as single cells, in pairs, chains
or clusters. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Essay on The Cone-Gatherers by Robin Jenkins
The Cone Gatherers by Robin Jenkins
The Cone Gatherers written by Robin Jenkins covers many topics. The two topics I shall mainly focus
on are the eventual insanity of Duror the gamekeeper and also his evil towards Calum and Neil, the
two cone gatherers. As I read the book, I discovered that Duror was an evil and disturbed human being
who was driven to insanity by his hate towards the cone gatherers.
The evil inside Duror is the book s focus, although other themes appear throughout the book. Evil is
described in Chapter 8 as a presence like air, infecting everyone .
From the start of the book, Duror s cold evil is made very clear. Duror the gamekeeper, in an icy sweat
of hatred. This is referring to one of the opening ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Yet another of Duror s plans is put into action. He suggests that the cone gatherers should be used as
beaters. She asks if one of them is a cripple . Although Duror has an immense dislike toward Calum,
he replies by saying He s a hunchback, but as agile as any monkey. She rang Mr. Tulloch the overseer
of the Ardmore men s (cone gatherers) work and he said it should be all right. As Duror was about to
leave, the telephone rang. Mr Tulloch was explaining that Calum had certain sensibilities, especially
towards the deer drive. Duror, when asked by Lady Runcie Campbell if Calum and Neil were really
needed, he insisted they were so Lady Runcie Campbell told Mr Tulloch the same.
In Chapter 5, Duror seemed to take great pleasure in telling the cone gatherers about their necessary
attendance of the upcoming deer drive. Neil got very irate about it and said that Duror was deceiving
them by trying to get them to do things, that they don t particularly want to do. Neil knew that Calum
was never asked to take part in deer drives because of his particular sensibilities and then accused
Duror of deceiving them. Duror was silent. His triumph was become a handful of withered leaves He

Improving The Iso Rating Of The Council Bluffs ( Ia ) Fire...
Improving the ISO Rating of the Council Bluffs (IA) Fire Department
Introduction
In 2012, Insurance Services Office (ISO) conducted a review of the fire suppression capabilities of the
Council Bluffs (IA) Fire Department (CBFD). The resulting Public Protection Classification (PPC)
was a Class 2. This classification puts the CBFD into the top 1% of the approximately 49,000 fire
departments ISO reviews. In an effort to maintain the highest level of service to the public, the current
fire administration has established an organizational goal of achieving a Class 1 designation. The
problem is that the CBFD has not developed a comprehensive plan to improve the department ISO
rating. In order to develop a plan, research is needed to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Background and Significance The Council Bluffs (IA) Fire Department was formed on January 5,
1883 by resolution of the city council to establish a full time, paid department. Prior to 1883, the
citizens of Council Bluffs had been protected from fire by several different volunteer fire companies.
The first such company, known as Hook Ladder 1, was formed after a conflagration destroyed most of
the town on November 14, 1854 (Petersen, 1992). Between 1854 and 1883, the department grew in
size, purchasing steam pumpers in 1868 and 1880. The city grew as well, expanding from a population
of 2,011 in 1860 to 18,063 in 1880. In 1918, the firemen of the CBFD organized and became a charter
member of the International Association of Fire Fighters (IAFF), Local 15. This is an affiliation that
the labor force of the CBFD still maintains today. On April 5, 1920, the CBFD began a two platoon
system with day and night shifts. Ten new firemen were hired bringing the total staffing to 36 men
working out of five stations. As the city continued to grow the fire department updated and broadened
the footprint of its fire stations. In 1942, a new Fire Station 2 was built

Symbolism In Hatchet By Gary Paulsen
In the book hatchet there is a main theme, the theme is to symbolize survival in a harsh place. I think
this is the main theme because there is significant textual evidence Brian survives for about 54 days.
This is also shown when Brian tries and gets the medical kit inside the plane. So basically the
Symbolism of this book is to survive. Also, he uses his hatchet in some parts of the book to make and
build his fort. How would you react if you were in his situation? Would you be in a position to
survive?
In one of the scenes in Hatchet Gary Paulsen uses repetition. In one of the scenes of the book Bryan
thought to himself I am rich, rich with food now, just rich... He described the berries in the book as
Sweet and not as distasteful as the gut cherries. One effect of this is to show how grateful Bryan is to
find food and to show how desperate he was. Bryan acts like he has just found a gold mine when he
tastes the rich berries. This shows the main character in this book is super happy. This relates to the
theme because it depicts survival by Brian finding the berries. ... Show more content on

The Flying Dutchm Drama Over The Emotional Transparency
The Flying Dutchman seemed to favor epic drama over the emotional transparency, which is rather
ironic considering its central theme of love as redemption. The music certainly didn t lack in
excitement, though, and it seemed almost reminiscent of a film score with its grand, sweeping themes.
I think the distinct characteristic of The Flying Dutchman was its recurring use of certain motifs to
describe or refer to characters. The Dutchman s theme, with its majestic french horn melody, featured
in the score not only when the Dutchman appeared in a scene, but also when other characters
mentioned him. Other recurring motifs were the gentle theme comprised of mainly woodwinds and
strings associated with Senta s love the violent, dramatic motif ... Show more content on

I don t think the vocals ever overshadowed the orchestral music, which is not the case in most operas.
Puccini s Turandot had a markedly different sound from the other two operas. The obvious difference
is that Puccini used pentatonic scales in his composition as opposed to the Western occidental scales in
an effort to emulate traditional Chinese music. Interestingly, the composition didn t feature any actual
Chinese instruments aside from the gong. Puccini seemed to use a lot of percussion in general, and
instruments such as the xylophone and bells featured often. I don t actually think Turandot fits within
the idea of Verismo opera, as I always thought Verismo was supposed to represent a return to real life
and the stories of common people. The opera seemed to reflect the sort of ideals found in Romantic
music, especially Puccini s attempt to evoke a far off, fairy tale like locale with his exotic music.
Of the three operas, Turandot had the most memorable arias, which also seemed like they worked the
best as standalone songs. No part of The Flying Dutchman could have been taken out and been
considered its own separate song, but I do think bits of Turandot could exist as such. If not Romantic
in terms of the musical style, I still think Turandot s music was the most romantic of the three
performances in terms of its emotional qualities. Putting aside the

the past decade reveals areas where effective arts education strategies, especially arts integration

driving this initiative is the understanding that some students learn most effectively through the arts
(Robinson, 2013). Recent research reflects that art integration correlates with low performing learners
by increasing test scores. Studies conducted in North Carolina and Oklahoma with art integration

Henry Turner Movie Essay
Sigmund Freud was the first psychologist to suggest that everyone has a large unconscious. He also
identified three parts of the personality: the id, ego, and superego. Freud said that the id operates on
pleasure principle , the ego operates on reality principle , and the superego operates on moral principle
. A great showcase of the different parts of the personality can be found within the movie Regarding
Henry. In this movie Henry Turner falls victim to an armed man in his local convenience store. After
the accident Henry s personality, and life in general, undergoes a drastic change. In my opinion, Henry
s natural state is his id. In this movie, Henry Turner appears to be largely controlled by his id. One of
the first big examples of this is when he leaves the house late at night by himself to go purchase
cigarettes. Henry goes out at a dangerous hour because he feels the need for a cigarette and this is
what results in him being shot. Another example of him using his id is when he lashes out at his
caretaker, Bradley. Henry loves Bradley but when Bradley tries to tell him that it s time to go back

For this reason many research has examined the effects that video games have on young children.
Granic, Lobel, and Engels (2014) reported that video games are a ubiquitous part of almost all
children s and adolescents lives, with 97% playing for at least one hour per day in the United States
(p.1). Currently, researchers have found that the vast majority of studies have been on its negative
impact. Some of the potential harms related to video games are exposure to violence, addiction, and
lack of social skills. However, as parents it is our duty to monitor young children s choices to ensure
that they are playing games that are developmentally appropriate for them. This essay will examine
the research that supports the effectiveness of video games in enhancing children s learning and
focusing on cognitive, literacy, and social development.
In the last decade, the manner in which video games have been generated has radically been
transformed. This alteration allowed a small but significant body of research to transpire. Some
parents, principals, educators, and researchers believe that video games enhance children s learning.
On the other hand, others believe video games destroy the lives of young children. Nevertheless, many

Muscle Cells Essay
Anatomy of Muscle Cells
There are three types of muscle tissue in the human body. These muscle tissues are skeletal muscles,
smooth muscles and cardiac muscles. Each of these muscle tissues has it very own anatomical
makeup, which vary from muscle to muscle. The muscle cells in a muscle are referred to as muscle
fibers, these fibers are skeletal muscle fibers, smooth muscle fibers and cardiac muscle fibers.
The anatomy of a skeletal muscle fiber is formed during embryonic development. Skeletal muscle
fibers arise from a hundred or more small mesodermal cells called myoblasts. The mature skeletal
muscle fiber has a hundred or more nuclei. Once fusion occurs the skeletal muscle fiber will lose the

The sarcoplasmic reticulum is a fluid filled system of membranous sacs. This system of sacs is similar
to smooth endplasmic reticulum in non muscle cells. In a relaxed muscle fiber the sarcoplasmic
reticulum store calcium ions, the release of these calcium cells, trigger muscle contraction.
There are two types of structures which are even smaller, they are known as thick and thin filaments.
The filaments inside of a myofibril do not extend the entire length of a muscle cell, instead they are
arranged in compartments called sarcomeres. The darker middle portion of a sarcomere is called the A
band. The A band extends the entire length of the thick filaments. The A band is a zone of overlap. The
I band is a lighter less dense area that contains the rest of the thin filaments, but has no thick filaments.
A Z disk passes through the center of each I band.
The next form of muscle fiber is smooth muscle fiber, these fibers are considerably smaller than
skeletal muscle fibers. A single smooth muscle fiber is thirty to two hundred micrometers long, thick
centered and tapered at the ends. These smooth muscle fibers have a single nucleus that is centrally
located and oval in shape. Smooth muscle fiber contains thick filaments and thin filaments. These
filaments are in ratios of 1:10 and 1:15, but are not

The Importance Of Architecture In The 19th Century
The 19th century began with the United Kingdom in the throes of an industrial revolution, a
prosperous time for factory and mill owners, yet the working class lived in substandard conditions.
England being ruled by George IV, Britain s Most Useless Monarch , a man who was known for his
frivolous, dissolute lifestyle. With increasing social inequality and an unsupportive government, there
was civil unrest in the nation.
David Watkin, in his Book Morality and Architecture (1977), maintains that some architecture is being
formed from the social, moral, and philosophical beliefs of a period. For Augustus Welby Northmore
Pugin, he saw Regency and Georgian architecture as an abomination. This was a period of great civil
unrest and inequality. The French Revolution had occurred not long ago (1789 1799) and with a
government that represented corruption and disparity, this seemed like a reasonable step forward. In
Pugin s first book, Contrasts (1836) he argues that the state of the society and its immorality was
reflected in the architectural style adopted. The book states that compared to Georgian architecture,
Medieval Gothic architecture is morally superior. This is perhaps the first time that an architect has
claimed a style of architecture is more moral than another. The stucco fronted facades of the buildings
and the decorative columns were dishonest to Pugin and therefore immoral in the eyes of God.
Speaking about Medieval Cathedrals, Pugin says, It was, indeed,

Racial Disparities In America Essay
Introduction In today s society people are hurting and they are struggling to survive. The federal
minimum wage is $7.25, while each state within the United States provides its own minimum wage.
Low wages equals no healthcare, which in turn equal s to individuals being sick and not being able to
receive the help they need. Low wages also equals mass incarceration which in turn equals to high
crime. The high crime usually involves low income neighborhoods, which in more than one way
effects minorities.
The system has also privatized the school and prison system, which go hand in hand with the
economic reality of today. The racial disparities of today, was triggered by the downfall of the
economic system that is in place right now. Families are struggling and individuals are looking for a

It also made production easier, faster, and cheaper since workers made an abundant of products within
a short amount of time. Mass production in factories was possible because of the invention of
machineries, leading to products being made without costing businesses as much money compared to
if the products were hand made. Because products were made in factories, this also caused retail
prices of the products to decrease while there was always accessibility for the supplies. The
establishment of large corporations replaced small businesses, which was good news for the wealthy
but bad news for individuals who owned their own small stores.
On the other hand, because of the establishment of factories by businessmen, the workers lives
became hard as they faced unfair working conditions in dirty and small working places. They worked

see in cartoons and images in science fiction books are now becoming reality, so real that some of
those futuristic technology are now part of our everyday lives, and this is only the beginning of the
technological revolution.
This century most unreal and controversial innovation is the 3 D printer; most people see 3
dimensional printing as way to make the world a better place. But like everything in the this world
where there is good there is also evil, and with this technology in hand some other people see an
opportunity to abuse the system and take advantage of the freedom to create whatever they can
possibly think of to make the world worst than it already is. So is it true that some things are best left
untampered...?
Looking back on 3 D printing, it is a relatively new technology. It s only 27 years ago this technology
was introduced to the world by the British engineer Charles Hull, the inventor of 3 dimensional
printing. Ever since the invention of the technology, the progress and ingenuity that have been made
by scientists all over the world to make 3 D printing more affordable and more portable. According to
and article by T. Rowe Price, The first step made towards

Character Analysis Of The Sweetheart Of The Song Tra Bong
In the chapter, The Sweetheart of the Song Tra Bong , we meet an interesting character named Mary
Anne. She was a seventeen year old lady who just got out of high school and went to visit her
boyfriend Mark Fossie in Vietnam. It started out as just visiting a childhood sweetheart, except it all
changed in a matter of weeks. Mary Anne began to take too much interest and she became engulfed in
vietnam. She wasn t all too careful, rather than her swallowing the land, she was swallowed whole by
it. Vietnam changed Mary Anne into something she never thought that she would become, she
changed into a lone soldier, physically, behaviorally and psychologically.
The first was Mary Anne changed was physically. When Mary Anne first arrived, she was described
as, ...tall, big boned blonde (89) and with long white legs and a complexion like strawberry ice cream
(89) These descriptions symbolize how new that she was, the perfect example of a lady. She slowly
began to learn stuff from the boys around, and she became so committed to her surroundings that she
changed her appearance. ...stopped wearing cosmetics, no nail filing, stopped wearing jewelry, cut her
hair short (94) This symbolized the change throughout the weeks, how she changed into somebody
completely different than the first day that anybody saw her. She was barely recognizable anymore.
Once she started going off with the greenies, she started to look like them. She wore a bush hat and
filthy green fatigues... her face was

Bach Fugue Analysis
For that reason, Bach used a fugue in solo organ pieces and in instrumental works and choral cantatas.
This Fugue is the most famous of fugues by any composer.
The difficult part to explain is how Bach created the Toccata s forceful organ effect. When Bach was
in Arnstadt when he was younger, the organ ordinarily lacked a 16 foot register on the keyboard;
consequently, it sounds an octave lower than the normal 8 foot register. Accordingly, in order to create
the effect, Bach used octave doubling; consequently, he continued the resounding effect of the opening
bars; conversely, there is no octave doubling in any of Bach s later organ works; moreover, the fugue
sounds furious with its uninterrupted series of fast notes. Also, Bach felt ... Show more content on

This section segues into the third and final section of the Toccata, which consists almost entirely of a
passage doubled at the sixth and comprising reiterations of the same three note figure, similar to
doubled passages in the first section; after a brief pedal flourish, the piece ends with a D minor chord.
In Bach s brilliance, he made the subject of the four voice fugue up entirely of sixteenth notes with an
implied pedal point set against a brief melodic subject that first falls and then rises. Nevertheless,
Baroque music frequently encountered Violinistic figures and that of Bach, both as fugue subjects and
as material in non imitative pieces. The answer is in the subdominant key, rather than the dominant.
Although it s a four part fugue, there are only three voices, and some of the interludes are in two or
even one voice (notated as two); although Bach employed only one simple triadic harmony throughout
the fugue, there is an unexpected C minor subject entry and, furthermore, a solo pedal statement of the
subject (a unique feature for a Baroque fugue). After the final subject entry, the composition resolves
to a sustained B flat major chord; a multi sectional coda follows, which Bach marked as Recitativo.
Although it s only 17 bars long, it progresses through five tempo changes; in addition, Bach had the
last bars played Molto

How to Go Green While in College Essay
Millions of young adults leave to go to college every year. Many responsibilities come with living
without one s parents for the first time. One responsibility is taking care of the Earth. Since there are
no parents in college to tell one to recycle, buy organic items, unplug appliances when they are not
being used, and many more, many college students forget to do these simple things. Students go to
college to start a new life for them, going green is a great way to do that. When a car breaks down, one
can buy another. We cannot but another planet Earth, so everyone must do their part to take care of it.
There are several ways to take care of the Earth, each are equally important. Recycling can be done is
many different ways. Paper is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When living in a dorm, one has unlimited amounts of hot water. This can make is very easy for one to
take long showers. Just because one has this privilege, does not mean one should take advantage of it.
A good way to time one s shower is to listen to a CD. After a certain track, one can turn off the water.
This help save thousands of gallons a year.
Aluminum is also very easy to recycle. Aluminum is the most recycled item in The United States, but
we need to do more (Earth 911).Americans use more than 80,000,000,000 aluminum cans a year
(Earth 911). Recycling just one can, saves enough energy to run a television for three hours (Earth
911)! There is also no limit as to how many times aluminum can be recycled (Earth 911). Recycling
one pound of steel can power a sixty watt light bulb for over a day (U.S. Environmental Protection
Agency). It only takes about sixty days for aluminum cans to be recycled and back on store shelves
(Earth 911). If not recycled, it takes an aluminum can over 500 years to decompose (Earth 911).
Another great way to recycle is to recycle plastic bags. California, New York, Rhode Island, and
Delaware; five cities Tucson, Chicago, New York City, San Juan Capistrano, California and Red Bank,
New Jersey; and five counties in New York Albany, Nassau, Rockland, Suffolk and Westchester have
mandatory plastic bag recycling laws (Earth 911). San Francisco and San Jose have

Demand for Restaurants and Determinant Factors
INTRODUCTION The paper presents an analysis of the different factors influencing the restaurant
industry and how these factors increase or decrease the demand for such services. The hypothesis that
will be examined is that the performance of restaurants is mostly based on the type of food chosen by
customers when they decide to go out for dinner, lunch, breakfast, or simply for a snack. What type of
food refers mainly the nationality or concept of the food, (traditional American, Italian, Indian, Latin,
or from any other type of culture). This factor is important because when customers go out to for
dinner; they decide what to eat before deciding where to eat. That is why this factor is considerably
important according to the hypothesis. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Wine Production Practice In European Union Falls Under
Wine production practice in European Union falls under European Commission Agriculture and Rural
Development. The EU describe wine as only beverages that is made by fermenting of grapes.
European table wine generally contains between 9% and 15% alcohol. The European Union
established Common Market Organization (CMO) for wine sector in 1962 to regulate policy on wine
production and the quality for wines produced in specified EU regions. Their first regulation was ban
on planting of new vineyards to adjust wine growing potential to market new in 1976 which was
extended to 2015 (COGEA, 2014).
In the distillation of wine, four types of distillation were endorsed in EU:

Sweetening of base wine is prohibited and the addition of the dosage must not increase the Atomic
Absorption Spectronomy (AAS) of wine by more than 0.5% (Wineskills, 2017).
Partial dealcoholisation of wine aims to eliminate some alcohol content using physical separation
techniques. This process of wines treatment must be of no organoleptic faults and must be suitable for
direct human consumption. Reduction of alcohol content by volume may not be more than 2% of vol.
The overall regulation is periodically reviewed by the European Commission (EC, 2015).
Does EU or UK impose different regulations?
All wines in the EU are required to comply with winemaking regulations and undergo certification
process provided by the Wine Export Certification Service. The national wine regulation has longer
history than the EU regulation on wine production, which gives room for the accommodation of
existing regulations of the member states. Distribution channels are based on individual national
regulations. Until recently, the EU classified win into Table Wine and Quality Wine Produced in a
Specific Region (QWPSR). These have been replaced by Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) and
Protected Geographical Information (DGI). These are detailed labelling introduced in 2011 to defend
the value and reputation of a unique product originating in a certain region of the EU (Brans, 2016).

Equifax Data Breach Analysis An analysis of the Equifax data breach Introduction A recent increase in large scale data breaches has exposed a multitude of cybersecurity vulnerabilities that pose a definite risk to consumers (Lorio, 2017). In some cases, a data breach can distress an establishment so much that other organizations experience a backlash from the repercussions (Kosseff, 2011). The Equifax data breach of 2017 is a perfect example of this kind of event as it caused an overwhelming economic repercussion that affected other major corporations and more than 143 million credit card customers worldwide (Janakiraman, Lin, Rishika, 2018). The poem explains all of the things the father did for his child without being asked or thanked. It then jumps to the child s point of view and tells what they say as a child as to what they see now as an adult looking back. The child, who is now grown, shows signs of regret as he looks back at how he treated his father, who sounds to have passed away. Finally, in the final lines the speaker realizes that the father s relationship was filled with love. However, even once the house is warm the father merely calls to the child to wake. He does not rush the child, this known when the speaker talks of how slowly he would get up and get dressed. This shows the tender side of the father, who wakes up early every day of the week in the cold in order to support his family and to keep them warm. In contrast, in line nine, the speaker talks of chronic angers in the house. This could refer to the father or the family being unhappy or angry. However, it could also be that the speaker is using personification and referring to the house as being angry. Perhaps there have been bad events such as hardships that have occurred in the house that have left behind an angry vibe. Whatever the case may be, the anger is defined as chronic, meaning that is serious enough to strike fear into the speaker and persists for long time. In line ten the speaker talks of how ungrateful and unfazed or unconcerned the speaker is with his father. This part may refer back to line five where the speaker said the father was never once thanked for going out of his way or anything he did. • 7. Essay on My Views on God and the Nature of the Universe A worldview is an opinion on how you see society as a whole. Each person s worldview is impacted by their culture, religion, family friends, etc. I am a Pentecostal Christian and a Romanian and these two aspects impact my worldview immeasurably. Jesus Christ is our Lord and Savior and He died on the cross for each person on this Earth. Even though each person has sinned and turned their backs on God countless times, Christ was always there for us no matter what we did. His love is greater than any love we have ever encountered and His grace is immensely great. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If one believe s there is a God who has created them for a reason then life has purpose. He gave us a purpose to live and that is to follow Him and give glory to Him in everything we do (Kelsey, 2012). When we die, we are judged by God and we either go to heaven or hell. What determines this is if we believe Jesus Christ died for our sins, rose again, and through Christ we are able to have a relationship with God (Kelsey, 2012). People ask why I believe in Christ and how I know that everything in the Bible is true and they are astounded when they hear my answer. First, believing that there is a God, believing that there is no God, and believing that there are many gods all have one thing in common: faith. Without faith, how can we believe or not believe in something? If a person says, I have no faith in you, what exactly does that mean? It means that, that person does not believe in someone and that they have no trust in them. It is the same in any religion. One has to have faith to believe in something. A friend told me that she saw someone who I looked like. Even though I didn t see what she saw I still put my faith in her and believed her. • 10. The Short Happy Life Of Francis Macomber Analysis The short story The Short Happy Life of Francis Macomber, by Ernest Hemingway, tells the tale of an African Safari and a man s journey to becoming courageous. The story focuses on Francis Macomber and his transition from a life of cowardice to a life of courage. Hemingway surrounds Francis with the secondary characters of the story, Margot and Wilson. Margot is Francis trophy wife, she believes that her husband is a coward and has little respect for him. Wilson is the classic Hemingway character, he is assertive, good with women, and shows no fear. These three characters exemplify the three types of people that Hemingway believes to exist in this world. Margot Macomber, Francis wife, epitomizes what Hemingway thought of women. She only focuses on her appearance, both her physical appearance and her status. Hemingway went out of his way to mention her modeling career showing her vanity and desire for others to see her beauty. Hemingway focuses more on her attempt to maintain her high status image through her husband. When Francis had shown cowardice and a lack of strength, she would then be ashamed of him and gravitate towards men that she found more respectable. In the story she had an affair with Wilson, he was everything that she could wish for in a man, strong, courageous, and not an embarrassing coward like her husband. Margot felt disappointment with the weakness that Francis displayed during the incident with the lion. She became upset when Wilson was talking about the incident and said, Let s not talk about the lion, she felt shame because of her husband s actions and she worried about how it would reflect on herself. Hemingway deliberately had her act this way because he felt that all women only care about status and appearances. Robert Wilson, the safari guide, represents the manly man and what Hemingway believes to be a man. Wilson embodies the ideal man, he is courageous, strong, fearless, and overall acts like the quintessential man. Throughout the story he shows a lack of fear while facing the most vicious and deadly animals on the face of the earth, he also has sex with a married woman, asserting his dominance. Most of us, myself included, thought that we were well prepared for our first classes as college students. My commonplace book includes posts from throughout the semester that express my progression as both a student and a person. It may seem obvious but I learned so much about not the only the writing process, but in my self too. Nearly all of my entries in the commonplace book discuss some lesson that I learned from the time when I figured out MLA format to when I finally realized how to revise the style of my papers. The second tag is Fear of Failure . One of my favorite quotes is from Gena Showalter that says Giving up is the only sure way to fail . One of my biggest problems throughout the semester was being discouraged right from the beginning, which I talked about in each unit reflection. Once I overcame the fear of screwing up the project, I was finally able to get to work and spit out some pretty good material. My third tag is Resiliency . I thought about combining resiliency and fear of failure but the more that I thought about it, I realized that they were completely different. Resiliency deals with the extreme amount of effort that I put into each any ever piece that I brought to class even though I would rather be doing literally anything else. It also covers all of the times when I had no clue what I was doing and had to start over from scratch, even though I could have easily turned in a piece that would have received an okay grade. Differences is my fourth tag. The idea of differences first came to me when we were working on the Op Doc analysis and each had videos that were all polar opposites of each other. Not only were the styles of our Op Docs different, but so were the styles in which we wrote our analyses. In high school we learn how to do everything just like one another, but in college we finally open our eyes and see that being different is what makes us who we are. My final tag is Creative Edge . • 22. Bacterial Cell Lab Report Bacterial cells are smaller and simpler than plant and animal cells because they are prokaryotes and lack membrane bound organelles. In addition, unlike animal and plant cells, bacterial cells lack a true nucleus and mitochondria. Instead of a cell nucleus containing chromosomes, the DNA in bacterial cells is arranged in a single circular strand in the cytoplasm. Bacteria tend to multiply very rapidly under favorable conditions, forming colonies of millions or even billions of organisms within a space as small as a drop of water. Bacteria also spreads and can survive in extreme conditions via a process called sporulation. Sporulation involves repackaging genetic contents into small reproductive bodies called spores, which contain little water, have a low metabolism, do not divide and feature an impermeable, multilayered envelope. They can grow into new bacteria once their environment replenishes its nutrients. I was able to observe the shape of bacteria cells in this lab because millions of bacterial cells had grown into colonies making them visible. 5 shapes of bacteria are spherical (cocci), rod (bacilli), spiral (spirilla), comma (vibrios) or corkscrew (spirochaetes). They can exist as single cells, in pairs, chains or clusters. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 23. Essay on The Cone-Gatherers by Robin Jenkins The Cone Gatherers by Robin Jenkins The Cone Gatherers written by Robin Jenkins covers many topics. The two topics I shall mainly focus on are the eventual insanity of Duror the gamekeeper and also his evil towards Calum and Neil, the two cone gatherers. As I read the book, I discovered that Duror was an evil and disturbed human being who was driven to insanity by his hate towards the cone gatherers. The evil inside Duror is the book s focus, although other themes appear throughout the book. Evil is described in Chapter 8 as a presence like air, infecting everyone . From the start of the book, Duror s cold evil is made very clear. Duror the gamekeeper, in an icy sweat of hatred. This is referring to one of the opening ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... She rang Mr. Tulloch the overseer of the Ardmore men s (cone gatherers) work and he said it should be all right. As Duror was about to leave, the telephone rang. Mr Tulloch was explaining that Calum had certain sensibilities, especially towards the deer drive. Duror, when asked by Lady Runcie Campbell if Calum and Neil were really needed, he insisted they were so Lady Runcie Campbell told Mr Tulloch the same. In Chapter 5, Duror seemed to take great pleasure in telling the cone gatherers about their necessary attendance of the upcoming deer drive. Neil got very irate about it and said that Duror was deceiving them by trying to get them to do things, that they don t particularly want to do. Neil knew that Calum was never asked to take part in deer drives because of his particular sensibilities and then accused Duror of deceiving them. Duror was silent. Improving the ISO Rating of the Council Bluffs (IA) Fire Department Introduction In 2012, Insurance Services Office (ISO) conducted a review of the fire suppression capabilities of the Council Bluffs (IA) Fire Department (CBFD). The resulting Public Protection Classification (PPC) was a Class 2. This classification puts the CBFD into the top 1% of the approximately 49,000 fire departments ISO reviews. Background and Significance The Council Bluffs (IA) Fire Department was formed on January 5, 1883 by resolution of the city council to establish a full time, paid department. Prior to 1883, the citizens of Council Bluffs had been protected from fire by several different volunteer fire companies. The first such company, known as Hook Ladder 1, was formed after a conflagration destroyed most of the town on November 14, 1854 (Petersen, 1992). Between 1854 and 1883, the department grew in size, purchasing steam pumpers in 1868 and 1880. The city grew as well, expanding from a population of 2,011 in 1860 to 18,063 in 1880. In 1918, the firemen of the CBFD organized and became a charter member of the International Association of Fire Fighters (IAFF), Local 15. This is an affiliation that the labor force of the CBFD still maintains today. On April 5, 1920, the CBFD began a two platoon system with day and night shifts. Ten new firemen were hired bringing the total staffing to 36 men working out of five stations. • 25. Symbolism In Hatchet By Gary Paulsen In the book hatchet there is a main theme, the theme is to symbolize survival in a harsh place. I think this is the main theme because there is significant textual evidence Brian survives for about 54 days. This is also shown when Brian tries and gets the medical kit inside the plane. So basically the Symbolism of this book is to survive. Also, he uses his hatchet in some parts of the book to make and build his fort. How would you react if you were in his situation? Would you be in a position to survive? In one of the scenes in Hatchet Gary Paulsen uses repetition. In one of the scenes of the book Bryan thought to himself I am rich, rich with food now, just rich... He described the berries in the book as Sweet and not as distasteful as the gut cherries. One effect of this is to show how grateful Bryan is to find food and to show how desperate he was. Bryan acts like he has just found a gold mine when he tastes the rich berries. This shows the main character in this book is super happy. This relates to the theme because it depicts survival by Brian finding the berries. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Flying Dutchm Drama Over The Emotional Transparency The Flying Dutchman seemed to favor epic drama over the emotional transparency, which is rather ironic considering its central theme of love as redemption. The music certainly didn t lack in excitement, though, and it seemed almost reminiscent of a film score with its grand, sweeping themes. I think the distinct characteristic of The Flying Dutchman was its recurring use of certain motifs to describe or refer to characters. Other recurring motifs were the gentle theme comprised of mainly woodwinds and strings associated with Senta s love the violent, dramatic motif ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I don t think the vocals ever overshadowed the orchestral music, which is not the case in most operas. Puccini s Turandot had a markedly different sound from the other two operas. The obvious difference is that Puccini used pentatonic scales in his composition as opposed to the Western occidental scales in an effort to emulate traditional Chinese music. Interestingly, the composition didn t feature any actual Chinese instruments aside from the gong. Puccini seemed to use a lot of percussion in general, and instruments such as the xylophone and bells featured often. I don t actually think Turandot fits within the idea of Verismo opera, as I always thought Verismo was supposed to represent a return to real life and the stories of common people. The opera seemed to reflect the sort of ideals found in Romantic music, especially Puccini s attempt to evoke a far off, fairy tale like locale with his exotic music. Of the three operas, Turandot had the most memorable arias, which also seemed like they worked the best as standalone songs. No part of The Flying Dutchman could have been taken out and been considered its own separate song, but I do think bits of Turandot could exist as such. Freud said that the id operates on pleasure principle , the ego operates on reality principle , and the superego operates on moral principle . A great showcase of the different parts of the personality can be found within the movie Regarding Henry. In this movie Henry Turner falls victim to an armed man in his local convenience store. After the accident Henry s personality, and life in general, undergoes a drastic change. In my opinion, Henry s natural state is his id. In this movie, Henry Turner appears to be largely controlled by his id. One of the first big examples of this is when he leaves the house late at night by himself to go purchase cigarettes. Henry goes out at a dangerous hour because he feels the need for a cigarette and this is what results in him being shot. Another example of him using his id is when he lashes out at his caretaker, Bradley. The Importance Of Architecture In The 19th Century The 19th century began with the United Kingdom in the throes of an industrial revolution, a prosperous time for factory and mill owners, yet the working class lived in substandard conditions. England being ruled by George IV, Britain s Most Useless Monarch , a man who was known for his frivolous, dissolute lifestyle. With increasing social inequality and an unsupportive government, there was civil unrest in the nation. David Watkin, in his Book Morality and Architecture (1977), maintains that some architecture is being formed from the social, moral, and philosophical beliefs of a period. For Augustus Welby Northmore Pugin, he saw Regency and Georgian architecture as an abomination. This was a period of great civil unrest and inequality. The French Revolution had occurred not long ago (1789 1799) and with a government that represented corruption and disparity, this seemed like a reasonable step forward. In Pugin s first book, Contrasts (1836) he argues that the state of the society and its immorality was reflected in the architectural style adopted. The book states that compared to Georgian architecture, Medieval Gothic architecture is morally superior. This is perhaps the first time that an architect has claimed a style of architecture is more moral than another. The stucco fronted facades of the buildings and the decorative columns were dishonest to Pugin and therefore immoral in the eyes of God. In Bach s brilliance, he made the subject of the four voice fugue up entirely of sixteenth notes with an implied pedal point set against a brief melodic subject that first falls and then rises. After the final subject entry, the composition resolves to a sustained B flat major chord; a multi sectional coda follows, which Bach marked as Recitativo. Although it s only 17 bars long, it progresses through five tempo changes; in addition, Bach had the last bars played Molto ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
