Title Ix And Its Impact On Society
A huge thing that has impacted society and especially sport today was the passing of Title IX. It
changed the way we look at sport and how we address it. Title IX is a law that passed in 1972 that
requires gender equity for men and women in all educational programs that receive federal funding
(titleix.info). The government showed that they will not play favorites and that we are all equal before
the law (Summers). The passing of this law was a turning point for women. It impacted women in
many areas of life but when most people think of Title IX, sport first comes to mind. Women had
played sports before this time, but did not receive all the same opportunities as men. Women athletic
programs were not provided with the same funds that men sports and female college athletes received
only two percent of overall athletic budgets. There was much less woman participating in sports than
men so before Title IX only 1 in 27 girls played high school sports. After Title IX, things drastically
changed for women in sports though (titleix.info). Today there is a question about whether or not Title
IX accomplished what it set out to actually accomplish. There are mixed views on if it was successful.
There is no doubt that it has made a huge impact on women sports but has its faults made the law fail
at its attempted mission. Carrie Lukas says, Men s sports teams have been sacrificed in order to
achieve proportionality as demanded by those enforcing Title IX (Lukas). Title IX

Femininity In The Sea Wolf
In Jack London s, The Sea Wolf, Humphrey Van Weyden embarks on a compelling journey that
teaches him about survival and independency. Throughout the novel readers can see how the men
aboard The Ghost fall under the dominance of the powerful and barbaric Wolf Larsen. On this ship,
Van Weyden not only discovers his masculinity, but also realizes that people who are not self reliant
don t stand a chance in the existing world. Additionally, after the arrival of Maud Brewster, Van
Weyden is exposed to his own femininity and also learns what it feels like when another human life
depends on you. Besides being exposed to femininity, Van Weyden is also introduced to the cruel
ways that men live when they lack the presence of a female figure. He learns that cruelty functions as
a motivation to express dominance and savagery that is usually concealed in a presence of a woman.
In The Sea Wolf, Jack London uses the motif of cruelty to develop themes of masculinity and
femininity by highlighting that cruelty limits men from regarding their feminine emotions, allows
people to showcase their dominance and superiority over things, and by exclaiming that it is a way for
people to escape pain, or fnd pleasure. In the novel, London uses the motif of cruelty to develop the
theme of femininity by showcasing that cruelty limits men from regarding their feminine emotions.
Over the years, the general stereotype about women has been that they get too emotionally involved in
a situation. Through the majority of the novel, the people aboard The Ghost are only men, thus lacking
sympathy and care for another. Prior to the arrival of Brewster, savagery and inhumanity was key to
surviving on a ship full of men. Although most of the men aboard the ship participated in revealing
their masculinity others, like Van Weyden, stayed back and observed, I cannot give the particulars of
the horrible scene that followed. It was too revolting. It turns me sick now when I think of it (92). The
previous quote supports the argument that cruelty limits men from regarding their feminine emotions
because it shows that the inhumanity Van Weyden witnessed left him fearful; he was left damaged,
simply by watching. As proven, it is clear that these inhumane

A Woman Of The House
A woman of the house takes care of all the big and small duties within the household. They were seen
as the weaker gender because they were not as wise as men were and they were not as strong as men
were; many times seen as incapable of taking care of themselves and their children. Women were good
at what they did within the household and it was believed that they were born to be in that domain.
Women were kept in the private spheres, which lacks societal life but that sphere is where they have
their authority. Some may say the authority is equal to that of a man but these two authorities were
different because women were not capable of taking care of themselves outside of the private sphere.
The public sphere belonged to men because they ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They learned individual responsibilities and were teachers to their children in the home because men
were incapable of doing so; men were not naturally moral or nurturing. They were able to advance
with the skills they already had and were able to learn more to better improve those skills.
Women were not able to complain about their stress or struggles because they are the glue that held
the family together in order for their husbands to be able to venture off into the cities and search for

The ideologies of women in the south were mainly to be a submissive woman by the side of their man

believed it was a their faith and a plan of God. Men viewed woman as godly beings. The female Gods

were distinct in life because that was the norm and they were limited to any advancement in the public

Abstract:
Green tea, an unfermented leaves is rich in catechins. Catechins are known to lower the lipid by un
regulating lipid metabolizing enzyme via NF KB and thereby stimulating fat oxidation. Black tea
results from the fermentation of green tea in which catechins of green tea is converted to theaflavin
and thearubigin, which have some significant health benefits of their own. Theaflavin is responsible
for reduced lipid accumulation, suppressed fatty acid synthesis, and stimulated fatty acid oxidation by
inhibiting acetyl coenzyme A carboxylase activities.
A literature review of a total of 8 Randomized Controlled trials (RCTs), 5 Meta analyses consisting of
75 peer reviewed Randomized Controlled trials (RCTs) on 5319 subjects and 6 population based
studies were selected for this study. The research related to Green tea effect on the cholesterol and
lipid lowering effect shows promising results with high dose of intake for long term. Studies and meta

Adversity In Slaughterhouse-Five By Kurt Vonnegut
Adversity and difficulties are an inherent part of life that everyone has to handle, but is it possible they
actually help people reach their highest potential? Difficulties bring out the skills and strengths that
otherwise would have never been accessed. Horace could not have been wiser when he said Adversity
has the effect of eliciting talents which in prosperous circumstances would have lain dormant, and he
could not have been wiser. There are many people who had an easy life or were born into their success
who are remembered for greatness, but the stories of people who had to overcome challenges are
always that ones that stay with us much more. Adversity is the only way humans can focus their skills

War Two and humanity s capability for destruction, he never could have written it without having to
witness the war and acknowledged what he had seen. Vonnegut needed to have the push to motivate
him to write his book and change the world. From reality to the world of fiction, adversity makes
people stronger. Nearly every book or movie today is about someone who has to overcome a great

China made its modernisation through revolutions. There are two historical event scholars believes

Under the pressure of Fourth May movement, during the 1921 Washington conference, an agreement
is made between China and Japan, requires Japan to return all the previous Germany leased territory,
return the custom authority in Qindao to China and many railways (Frederick, 1999). Fourth May
movement also puts pressure on the cabinet, which leads to the resignation of all cabinet members.
This movement shows the would that the Chinese people also have the ability to choose who to lead
the country. Different from seven years ago the Xinhai revolution, unions have excised their power in
democracy. Apart from foreign policy, during the movement, unions are formed in major cities.
Students, factories workers and many middle and low class people, demonstrate their ability to
influence the government, and express their opinions. Fourth May movement helps spread
communism. It is ambiguous to say whether this is good or bad. However the communism party; who
is ruling china right now; can never come this far; if it was for the movement.
Consider the culture climate in China; May fourth movement is a breaking point. In this context,
culture defines as the set of shared attitudes, values, goals, and practices that characterizes an

In this lab, we constructed a terraqua column. The terraqua column consisted of a terrestrial
environment, complete with plants, an earthworm, and soil. The bottom was an aquatic environment
and included a beta fish, elodea plants, and duckweed. This column was meant to be a model in how
biogeochemical cycles, eutrophication, and Human introduced pollution affect real life environments.
Throughout this lab, the group came to the consensus that the actions of humans, environments, and
natural processes are interconnected. In addition, a deep understanding of all three factors must be

Should Capital Punishment Still be Used in the American...
Capital punishment, also known as the death penalty, is the pre meditated and planned taking of a
human life by a government in response to a crime committed by that legally convicted person
(usliberals.about.com). Most death penalty cases involve the execution of murderers. Capital
punishment can also be applied for treason, espionage, and other crimes (ProCon.org Death Penalty
ProCon.org ). The death penalty is done primarily by means of lethal injection (ProCon.org Death
Penalty ProCon.org ).
Many people are arguing whether or not capital punishment is effective and should still be used in the

Proponents believe that the death penalty also helps deter crime. Supporters of the death penalty
debate that the death penalty is the most extreme warning to most criminals. With the knowledge of
punishment by death, criminals are less prone to commit murder. Supporters argue that people s worst
fear is death and criminals would do anything to avert it (http://listverse.com). Hashem Dezhbakhsh,
PhD, Professor of Economics at Emory University, and Joanna Shepherd, PhD, Associate Professor of
Law at Emory University, wrote in their July 2003 study The Deterrent Effect of Capital Punishment:
Evidence from a Judicial Experiment in Economic Inquiry:
[There is] strong evidence for the deterrent effect of capital punishment... Each execution results, on
average, in eighteen fewer murders with a margin of error of plus or minus ten

Supporters of the death penalty believe it is the best justice for murder. Proponents argue that capital
punishment fits the most severe crime that can be committed : murder (http://listverse.com).

Racial Prejudice And Racial Discrimination During The 1920...
A Colorblind America When people refer to America, they typically think of it as the melting pot in
the center of the earth. However, for a country that prides itself in advocating freedom and equality for
all, the United States has a long history of segregation and discrimination that has long affected
present policy. It is clear that racial minorities have been targets of this racial bias for years, and even
after slavery was abolished, African Americans continued to face the most racism due to the color of
their skin. Thus, by looking at how John Franklin s life experience as a boy scout during the 1920 s
illustrates a small peek into the history of race and ethnicity in America, we can see how racial
hostility, and the Anglo Saxon view of a white American identity played a major role in defining the
color line in American culture. Consequently, rather than enjoying equal liberties as did any other
American citizen, African Americans faced many political, social, and economic discriminations that
only proved that race was nothing more than a socially constructed product of hatred. Accordingly, in
John Hope Franklin s oral history from storycorps.org, the late scholar of African American history,
tells his son about his days as a boy scout during the 1920 s. At first, Franklin begins his story with the
bright, enthusiastic attitude that he held as a young boy scout, who simply wanted to do a good deed.
He then goes on to explain how he saw a woman with a cane who

Importance of the Past in Willa Cather s My Antonia Essay
The Importance of the Past in Willa Cather s My Antonia
In My Antonia, Willa Cather emphasizes the importance of the past through Jum Burden s narration.
Jim Burden realizes at the conclusion of the novel how much he enjoyed his childhood days and how
much his memories mean to him. There are three events that Cather included in the novel which
contribute greatly to the overall theme, concerning the importance of the past.
One event is in Chapter II of Book III. Jim decides to write about his youth in Nebraska as Vergil has

Destiny along which their lives have traveled.
Another event appears in chapter 14 of book II. Antonia and Jim are having a picnic by the river. It is
an important event for many reasons. First, the past is brought up, when Antonia says, It would be like

when Jim walks two miles towards the river. At the riverbank he takes a swim and realizes how much
he will miss this river once he goes off to college. Jim skated, swam and fished on this river
throughout his childhood. Second, it is the last shared afternoon of Jim and Antonia s youth.

Analysis and Evaluation of the Types of Emotion Essay
Introduction
The purpose of this paper is to provide an analysis and evaluation of the Types of Emotion from the
scientific/empirical and Islamic perspectives. The paper presumes that the readers are familiar with the
content of the topic in question based on the introductory Psychology textbook by Ciccarelli and
White (2010). Therefore, this paper will focus more the analysis and evaluation, rather than the
description and details of the topic.
Types of Emotion
An emotion is experienced as a feeling that motivates, organizes, and guides perception, thought, and

However, in 1991, Izard stated that despite the genetically based mechanisms for the fundamental
emotions, experience can modify aspects of emotion. A person is capable of learning to inhibit or
modify the innate emotional expressions.
In the book Psychology of Emotions, Izard (1991) stated that the mechanism of basic emotions can be
modified through experience despite being genetically based. Innate emotional expressions can be
inhibited or modified by the person. For instance, anger expression involves baring one s teeth to
prepare oneself in an action of biting. However, many people clinch their teeth and compress their lips
instead. This can be seen as a mean of adapting the expression of emotion depending on the context.
This adaptation can occur for several reasons such as fear or respect.
The prophet s.a.w. said: He who does not show mercy to our little ones or recognize the rights of our
elders is not one of us (narrated by Ahmad and Tirmizi). The prophet s.a.w explicitly denounced any
who disrespects the elders from the brotherhood of the Muslim community. A firm believer and

nuclear bombs which were then dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki; this event was the beginning of
weaponizing modern technologies for Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMDs). Since the bombing of
Japan during World War I, the use of bombs as the main means of terrorism has been the corner stone
in anti terrorism preparedness and response. However, the use of commercial jetliners in the

Chemical and Biological Attacks
During World War I, chemical warfare was utilized as a Weapon of Mass Destruction to commit large
scale attacks against oncoming forces. Wartime scientists used chemicals such as chlorine, phosgene
and mustard gas to cause blindness, asphyxiation, and death (Fitzgerald, G 2008). During these
attacks, over 1.3 million people suffered chemically induced injuries and more than 90,000 killed by
chemical weapons. The devastation caused by chemical warfare led to the gathering of 160 nations to
sign treaties banning the use of lethal chemical armaments. On both a national and local level,
emergency managers work to evaluate the potential of terrorist attacks of all magnitudes and means.
In the last 60 years, the advancement of biological technology and easily attainable chemicals has led
to an increase in chemical weaponry and biological pathogens. While nuclear and radiological attacks
are more common, chemical attacks are brutally efficient and biological attacks can be engineered

The Rise And Fall Of The Oslo Accords Essay
Article Review: The Rise and Fall of the Oslo Accords
According to an apocryphal story, Pope John Paul once said that he believes there are two possible
solutions to the Arab Israeli conflict, the realistic and the miraculous. The realistic being divine
intervention, and the miraculous being a voluntary agreement by both parties. On September 13th,
1993, it looked like the miraculous had happened when the Oslo Accords were signed by Prime
Minister Rabin and PLO Chairman Arafat on the White House South Lawn. However, the objectives
of the accords were never fully implemented and the Palestinians remain stateless. Further steps
toward peace, including Oslo II and Camp David, have fallen short of the goals of both sides. In the
book International Relations of the Middle East the chapter titled The Rise and Fall of the Oslo Peace
Process details the slow process of the formation of the Oslo accords, as well as attempts at
implementation and the fall of the Declaration of Principles. The author outlines the events between
1990 and 2001 and makes the argument that Oslo failed because: (1) it had a bad foundation, (2) the
accords did not account for the core issues of the conflict, (3) Israel did not complete of their side of

Negative Aspects Of Globalization In Developing Countries
Globalisation is a worldwide movement which integrates economic, financial, trade and commerce
from different countries. It has influenced communication between countries and brought them
together. It made countries more interdependent and interconnected with free transfer of goods and
services across national frontiers.
Globalisation can have lots of benefits on western societies such as implies the opening of the local to
a broader outlook (Angelasancartier.net.2017). Globalisation also involves culture spread, and the
process of globalisation happens through the media, consumer goods and western consumer lifestyle
(ThoughtCo.2017). These lead to a fashion sold for western societies by giant retailers who can update
inventory and make transnational trade deals (Angelasancartier.net.2017). The opening market and
culture diffusion also make people who consuming is actually more focus on the corporate brand or

Globalisation has been one of the most hotly debated topics in international economics (Forbes.com,

countries like China and Africa. Increasing globalisation has helped the expansion of opportunities for

Job Outsourcing In America
Job outsourcing is the shifting of a business from one country to another. Companies may choose to
outsource or offshore for a number of reasons, perhaps they are trying to save money on taxes or
increase productivity in the company. Job outsourcing affects the lot of Americans whether it s in a
positive or a negative way. Unfortunately offshoring leads to a decrease in jobs. Ten years later, the
number of such jobs had shrunk to 106,100, with most of them subcontracted at annual pay of $38,990
stated Behind shrinking middle class jobs (2017). The loss of jobs to outsourcing applies to everyone

History of the Court:
By the end of the first world war, the international community founded the League of Nations, the first
international security organization with the primary goal of maintaining world peace. The first world
war saw drastic increases in mankind s capacity to kill other human beings and cause insurmountable
harm to human society and culture. The human condition was drastically different. With a new world
war on the horizon, the international community had decided to band together to form a way in which
it could help exercise the correct legal disposition and formality to positively influence the world. An
international body was crucial after the first world war in order to maintain peace and order as the
world picked up the pieces from their injustices. This was also true after the Second world war where
the world saw, again, how the cruelties of humanity had to be prevented in order for the international
body to prevent the forming of higher casualty rates and human suffering. With in Article 14 of the
Covenant of the League of Nations, an international court, the Permanent Court of International
Justice (PCIJ) was established. The PCIJ significantly advanced the concept of international law, as it
was the first international a judicial body to be governed by its own

Trump s Persuasive Arguments
Trump won the first presidential debate between himself and Hillary Clinton based on the criteria of,
who had the least amounts of interruptions between the candidates and the moderator, who had the
least amount of meaningless insults in their argument against each other, and the last one being who
provided the most ethical, logical, and emotional appeals in their argument. All of these factors were
the criteria for the winning of this debate, for the reason of the criteria providing judgment of debate
etiquette and the inclusion of the needed elements of a persuasive argument. This criteria leads to the
conclusion that Donald Trump won the first presidential debate.
The first criteria was the amount of interruptions the candidates had between ... Show more content on

While both candidates used primarily ethos for their arguments, and both were effective with their
ethos arguments, so much so that neither really beat the other on providing ethical appeals. Though for
logical appeals Trump provided more logical appeals than Clinton, for example Trump brought up that
stop and frisk lowered murders for New York. While Clinton bundles that without stop and frisk
crimes including murders are down which is also true, but as Trump said murders are going up after
stop and frisk was no longer in use. They were both right in this instance, because murders were at
their third lowest, but murders were at their lowest when stop and frisk was invoked, and with this
argument Trump took over the logical appeal for the debate. Then going on the emotional appeals that
the candidates presented, Clinton coame up almost with no emotional appeals for her argument, while
Trump came up with quite a few. Trump uses the fact that he would never thought he would be
making as much money as his is now, and how people should support someone that has grown from
the ground up with their life, and he attempts to make many more arguments trying to appeal to people
s emotional side. While Clinton only really tries to make an emotional appeal when she states that her
father was a small business owner that gave them a nice middle class living, which doesn t really
move as many people as saying they have gone from nothing to something. Leaving Trump to have
provided the most effective emotional appeals to his argument. All together Trump provided the most
appeals for his argument by having provided more logical and emotional appeals than Clinton and the
same amount of ethical appeals as her as

Dirt Bikes Comparison
Street motorcycles and dirt bikes are not created equal. There are important differences to recognize
between street motorcycles and dirt bikes. They are both two wheeled vehicles but are designed and
intended for different purposes. Although, street motorcycles and dirt bikes can seem very similar they
have some major differences that affect their riding styles. Street motorcycles and dirt bike are
designed for different environments you can tell from the differences in the build what terrain each is
made for.
Environments that street bikes and dirt bikes are made for are very contrasting. A street motorcycle is
made for smooth or mostly smooth terrain like paved roads, highways, and some gravel roads. The
terrain a dirt bike is made for is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A street motorcycle usually has a larger frame and it is heavy and metal. The frame of a dirt bike is
typically lighter and smaller because it uses mostly hard plastic with minimal metal. The street
motorcycles larger heavier frame offers more stability to the rider and the dirt bikes smaller lighter
frame offers more agility. Dirt bikes also go off jumps so a lighter frame is better. Street motorcycle
and dirt bikes are not equipped with the same suspension. The suspension on a street motorcycle is
stiffer than the suspension of a dirt bike. The suspension on a street motorcycle is limited because it is
made for a heavy bike on smooth roads not taking much impact, enough to give a smooth ride but not
enough to take the jumps that a dirt bike would. On a dirt bike, the suspension is not as stiff and is
very good at taking impact as it is made to absorb the shock of the bike going over rough trails and
jumps. The tires of street motorcycles and dirt bikes are designed for different environments. Street
motorcycles have less aggressive, slick, and wide tires. The slicker and wider tires of a street
motorcycle provide more traction and stability on the smooth pavement they are made for. Dirt bikes
have a more aggressive tire design as they are narrower and have knobs. The narrower and knobby dirt
bike tire give traction and make maneuvering through loose dirt and sand

RIGHT TO FOOD: AN INSTANCE OF HUMAN RITHS
The human right to food has its contemporary origin within the U.N. Universal Human Rights
framework. Ensuring the right to adequate food and consequently the right to be free form hunger is
specifically enshrined in a number of Human Rights instruments. It is obvious that without adequate

On May 12,1999 the UN Committee on Economic, Social and cultural Rights f its General Comment
12th Observes, Fundamentally the roots of the problem of hunger and malnutrition are not lack of
food but lack of access to available food, inter alia because of poverty, by large segments of world s
population. The General comment 12 identified that the fundamental distinction need to be made is
between availability and access. The General Comment 12 defined the right to adequate food thus;
The right to adequate food is realized when every man, woman and child, alone or in community with
others, has physical and economic access at all times to adequate food or means for its procurement.
[6]
The General Comment also explain that adequacy means that access must be taken of what is
appropriate under given circumstances Food Security implies food being accessible for both and
future generations. Thus as explained in paragraph 8 the core content of the right to adequate food
implies the availability of food in adequate quantity and quality sufficient to satisfy the needs of
individuals[7]. In 2000 the UN Millennium /declaration adopted at the largest ever gathering heads of

Analysis Of Bright Star By John Keats
In the famous poem Bright Star , dedicated to his lover Fanny Brawne, John Keats presents the
essence of love in passion and in depth. As its form, a combination of Shakespearean and Italian
sonnets suggests, the poem portrays love as a subject full of seemingly contradictive qualities. As a
subjective matter, love is active and passive, physical and spiritual, mutable and eternal at the same
time. Holding immortal love as the ultimate value of life, the speaker imagines a brave possibility of
love transcending life for his romantic belief. In the beginning of the poem, the speaker presents love
as a subjective matter by contrasting it with the significant image of the star, a symbol of divine
objectivity. Since long ago, man has learned to observe stars for its steadfastness for directions and
guidance (1). Thus in western culture, star is seen as a prophetic divine existence, a form of absolute
truth or universal rule, above all arbitrary and relative beings on earth. The speaker then implies love
to be the opposite by emphasizing the star s incapability of worldly emotions and personal
perspectives by applying the metaphor of Eremite (4). The stoic hermit or recluse under religious vow
sacrifices personal feelings and preferences in order to obtain absolute truth. Hence, the speaker
perceives love as a subjective matter, unrelated to the absolute. In line 6, the metaphor of mask also
proves such assumption: Only by covering the objects, the snow, amorphous

Persuasive Essay On Fast Food
As time has passed, Americans have become downright lazy and inconsiderate when it comes to
preparing their meals. They substitute fresh, nutritional, balanced meals for a big mac on their way to
work. Since Americans have become so lazy, the emphasis is on quick service rather than the quality
of the food. Open 24/7! It takes two hands to hold a whopper! There s fast food, then there s KFC!
Your way, right away! As Americans continue to fill their bodies with fatty, processed, fake food,
people around the world starve, and their access to clean drinking water is limited. So how is America
to help? Now, when I state this, know it is not for my own gain. I am not starving, malnourished, nor
am I grossly obese. This is simply a gain for the world, so that we may help those in need. In order for
fast food chains to shut down, we would need to get rid of the obese people. How do we do this in a
civil manner? Feed them to the malnourished. Now I know what you re thinking what is considered
obese? Some people work out excessively, and a healthy 400 pound male that can lift that weight has a
higher BMI because of the muscle. I mean to say the large ones, made entirely out of excess fat, the
meat ready to slide off their bones the way it slides off of Colonel Sander s chicken. By feeding these
overweight people to the malnourished, we not only will solve world hunger, but this will solve
overpopulation. People over the BMI of 30 + will be put to death, and for a reasonable, redeeming
cause. Those who are 18 will receive the meat of the generous donors. Those in the healthy range will
continue to eat the way they do, while being monitored by a doctor, of course, so we can watch their
eligibility for being overweight. Those who are overweight put on a watch list. The lower the BMI on
the overweight side, the less you are to be harassed by the government. If you re teeter tottering on the
obese line, you are put in a hospital, so that as soon as you can be put to slaughter, it s done. Not only
will this solve world hunger and overpopulation, but America won t need volunteers to go over to
these underdeveloped, third world countries, which will spare our time and supplies. Why would we
waste our precious

up to eight other grandchildren at the same time. Mr. Y began using drugs at age 10. In early
adolescence, Mr. Y joined a gang where he became involved in selling drugs and running numbers. He
fathered his first child at the age of 13. Before he was 17, he was arrested on a variety of charges that

The capital of Massachusetts is Boston. Boston is home to 645,966 out of 6,692,824 who live in
Massachusetts. Massachusetts also has a very unique flag. Their flag is a blue shield with a gold

There are many interesting facts about Massachusetts. For one, Massachusetts is bordered by several
states. These states include: Vermont, Connecticut, New Hampshire, New York, and Rhode Island.
Another fact about Massachusetts is that their state flower is the mayflower. This appropriate because
the famous Mayflower ship landed on Plymouth Rock in Massachusetts. The state s bird is the
Chickadee and their tree is the American Elm. To add to these facts, Massachusetts is also nicknamed
the Bay State because of it s proximity to several bays.

  • 3. Title Ix And Its Impact On Society A huge thing that has impacted society and especially sport today was the passing of Title IX. It changed the way we look at sport and how we address it. Title IX is a law that passed in 1972 that requires gender equity for men and women in all educational programs that receive federal funding (titleix.info). The government showed that they will not play favorites and that we are all equal before the law (Summers). The passing of this law was a turning point for women. It impacted women in many areas of life but when most people think of Title IX, sport first comes to mind. Women had played sports before this time, but did not receive all the same opportunities as men. Women athletic programs were not provided with the same funds that men sports and female college athletes received only two percent of overall athletic budgets. There was much less woman participating in sports than men so before Title IX only 1 in 27 girls played high school sports. After Title IX, things drastically changed for women in sports though (titleix.info). Today there is a question about whether or not Title IX accomplished what it set out to actually accomplish. There are mixed views on if it was successful. There is no doubt that it has made a huge impact on women sports but has its faults made the law fail at its attempted mission. Carrie Lukas says, Men s sports teams have been sacrificed in order to achieve proportionality as demanded by those enforcing Title IX (Lukas). Title IX ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Femininity In The Sea Wolf In Jack London s, The Sea Wolf, Humphrey Van Weyden embarks on a compelling journey that teaches him about survival and independency. Throughout the novel readers can see how the men aboard The Ghost fall under the dominance of the powerful and barbaric Wolf Larsen. On this ship, Van Weyden not only discovers his masculinity, but also realizes that people who are not self reliant don t stand a chance in the existing world. Additionally, after the arrival of Maud Brewster, Van Weyden is exposed to his own femininity and also learns what it feels like when another human life depends on you. Besides being exposed to femininity, Van Weyden is also introduced to the cruel ways that men live when they lack the presence of a female figure. He learns that cruelty functions as a motivation to express dominance and savagery that is usually concealed in a presence of a woman. In The Sea Wolf, Jack London uses the motif of cruelty to develop themes of masculinity and femininity by highlighting that cruelty limits men from regarding their feminine emotions, allows people to showcase their dominance and superiority over things, and by exclaiming that it is a way for people to escape pain, or fnd pleasure. In the novel, London uses the motif of cruelty to develop the theme of femininity by showcasing that cruelty limits men from regarding their feminine emotions. Over the years, the general stereotype about women has been that they get too emotionally involved in a situation. Through the majority of the novel, the people aboard The Ghost are only men, thus lacking sympathy and care for another. Prior to the arrival of Brewster, savagery and inhumanity was key to surviving on a ship full of men. Although most of the men aboard the ship participated in revealing their masculinity others, like Van Weyden, stayed back and observed, I cannot give the particulars of the horrible scene that followed. It was too revolting. It turns me sick now when I think of it (92). The previous quote supports the argument that cruelty limits men from regarding their feminine emotions because it shows that the inhumanity Van Weyden witnessed left him fearful; he was left damaged, simply by watching. As proven, it is clear that these inhumane ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

They were seen as the weaker gender because they were not as wise as men were and they were not as strong as men were; many times seen as incapable of taking care of themselves and their children. Women were good at what they did within the household and it was believed that they were born to be in that domain. Women were kept in the private spheres, which lacks societal life but that sphere is where they have their authority. Their sex roles were distinct in life because that was the norm and they were limited to any advancement in the public world. • 12. Racial Prejudice And Racial Discrimination During The 1920... A Colorblind America When people refer to America, they typically think of it as the melting pot in the center of the earth. However, for a country that prides itself in advocating freedom and equality for all, the United States has a long history of segregation and discrimination that has long affected present policy. It is clear that racial minorities have been targets of this racial bias for years, and even after slavery was abolished, African Americans continued to face the most racism due to the color of their skin. Thus, by looking at how John Franklin s life experience as a boy scout during the 1920 s illustrates a small peek into the history of race and ethnicity in America, we can see how racial hostility, and the Anglo Saxon view of a white American identity played a major role in defining the color line in American culture. Consequently, rather than enjoying equal liberties as did any other American citizen, African Americans faced many political, social, and economic discriminations that only proved that race was nothing more than a socially constructed product of hatred. Accordingly, in John Hope Franklin s oral history from storycorps.org, the late scholar of African American history, tells his son about his days as a boy scout during the 1920 s. At first, Franklin begins his story with the bright, enthusiastic attitude that he held as a young boy scout, who simply wanted to do a good deed. Since the bombing of Japan during World War I, the use of bombs as the main means of terrorism has been the corner stone in anti terrorism preparedness and response. The realistic being divine intervention, and the miraculous being a voluntary agreement by both parties. On September 13th, 1993, it looked like the miraculous had happened when the Oslo Accords were signed by Prime Minister Rabin and PLO Chairman Arafat on the White House South Lawn. However, the objectives of the accords were never fully implemented and the Palestinians remain stateless. • 29. Analysis Of Bright Star By John Keats In the famous poem Bright Star , dedicated to his lover Fanny Brawne, John Keats presents the essence of love in passion and in depth. As its form, a combination of Shakespearean and Italian sonnets suggests, the poem portrays love as a subject full of seemingly contradictive qualities. As a subjective matter, love is active and passive, physical and spiritual, mutable and eternal at the same time. Holding immortal love as the ultimate value of life, the speaker imagines a brave possibility of love transcending life for his romantic belief. In the beginning of the poem, the speaker presents love as a subjective matter by contrasting it with the significant image of the star, a symbol of divine objectivity. Since long ago, man has learned to observe stars for its steadfastness for directions and guidance (1). Thus in western culture, star is seen as a prophetic divine existence, a form of absolute truth or universal rule, above all arbitrary and relative beings on earth. The speaker then implies love to be the opposite by emphasizing the star s incapability of worldly emotions and personal perspectives by applying the metaphor of Eremite (4). The stoic hermit or recluse under religious vow sacrifices personal feelings and preferences in order to obtain absolute truth. Hence, the speaker perceives love as a subjective matter, unrelated to the absolute. In line 6, the metaphor of mask also proves such assumption: Only by covering the objects, the snow, amorphous ... Now, when I state this, know it is not for my own gain. I am not starving, malnourished, nor am I grossly obese. This is simply a gain for the world, so that we may help those in need. In order for fast food chains to shut down, we would need to get rid of the obese people. How do we do this in a civil manner? Feed them to the malnourished. Now I know what you re thinking what is considered obese? Some people work out excessively, and a healthy 400 pound male that can lift that weight has a higher BMI because of the muscle. I mean to say the large ones, made entirely out of excess fat, the meat ready to slide off their bones the way it slides off of Colonel Sander s chicken. By feeding these overweight people to the malnourished, we not only will solve world hunger, but this will solve overpopulation. People over the BMI of 30 + will be put to death, and for a reasonable, redeeming cause. Those who are 18 will receive the meat of the generous donors. Those in the healthy range will continue to eat the way they do, while being monitored by a doctor, of course, so we can watch their eligibility for being overweight. Those who are overweight put on a watch list. The lower the BMI on the overweight side, the less you are to be harassed by the government. If you re teeter tottering on the obese line, you are put in a hospital, so that as soon as you can be put to slaughter, it s done.
