Egalitarianism In The Sapphires
Good morning/afternoon and welcome to the 2018 annual Australian Film Festival. The Australian
films represented here today are examples of egalitarianism and the idea of a fair go for all. They
depict the underdog, and their drive to succeed and achieve. In many Australian films today these two
qualities are shown throughout which makes for a captivating and exciting film experience. Iconic
films such as The Sapphires and Ned Kelly depict Australians fighting against injustice, personal
issues and inequality, showing the value of a fair go and egalitarianism. The film The Sapphires is set
in the 1960 s and is based on a true story, portrays four young Aboriginal women singers who fight
against egalitarianism and white society judgement in order to be ... Show more content on

Both the films address the issue of egalitarianism, and although they are set in extremely different
times in history, both represent the struggles people face in society, whether it is due to ethnicity or
social injustice. In both films the main characters are looked down upon by society as underdogs, in
many ways due to circumstances that are beyond their control. In The Sapphires they do not have
much of a leverage because of their race and continue to be looked down upon by the white people
because they are black. In the case of Ned Kelly, Kelly was born into a disadvantaged family. Due to
being part of the Kelly family he too was looked down upon by society. Both Australian films
represent the idea of the underdog. They show the struggle that each character is faced with, and the
fight to overcome the injustice that they face on a day to day basis. Although at different times in
history and facing different obstacles, both films depict people fighting against injustice, personal

CONTROL PARADIGM
This move toward abstinence, sobriety, moderation, and puritanical thoughts about sex is more than a
trend. It s a practical program that expands the limits of law enforcement, the authority of employers,
and ultimately its own parameters. Big Brother IS looking over your shoulder. Across American
society one sees effort after effort to restore social cohesion, re assert authority, and basically get a
grip on the energies that have been unleashed over the past quarter century. Universities are re
imposing curfews as well as rules on cohabitation, unsupervised parties, fraternity hazing, and sexual
conduct. Legislatures across the country are controlling Internet smut, tobacco advertising, and
labeling violent TV programming, video games, and rock and rap lyrics as bad. Cities across the
nation have imposed controls on panhandling, vagrancy, public drinking, and littering. Community
policing programs have given law enforcement more day to day authority in high crimeareas. Cameras
and scanners are everywhere. Are these the benign acts of a civilized society, or have the authorities
taken their powers too far? ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It usually begins with an actual problem, for example, teen pregnancy or the real dangers of drugs, but
while an obvious response might be sex and drug education (and not the lies perpetrated by programs
such as DARE), or birth control and teaching safe drinking habits. Instead, we are told that the best
way to solve teen pregnancy is abstinence (which instills guilt about sexual activity), or that the best
way to curb drug use is to scare people and to lie to them. Real healthproblems, such as AIDS and
STDs become the occasion for wholesale sexual purges, and real problems with drugs are couched in
an abuse paradigm, as if to do drugs means only to ABUSE them, and to talk about safe drug use is
profane. Something else is going

Ways of the World Second Edition Chapter 7 Questions
Jonathon Martin Period 1 Chapter 8 Questions 1. Long distance commerce acted as a motor of change
in pre modern world history by altering consumption and daily life. Essential food and useful tools
such as salt were traded from the Sahara desert all the way to West Africa and salt was used as a food
preserver. Some incenses essential to religious ceremonies were traded across the world because there
was a huge demand for them. Trade diminished economic self sufficiency by creating a reliance on
traded goods and encouraged people to specialize and trade a particular skill. Trade motivated the
creation of a state due to the wealth accumulated from controlling and taxing trade. Trade posed the

Middle Eastern gold and silver purchased pepper, textiles, and gemstones in India. Merchants from the
Arab Empire established communities from East Africa to the China coast. Opportunities for trade led
to the production of sugar and dates in Mesopotamia and stimulated a slave trade from East Africa to
provide labor for the growing and refining of these products. Widespread conversion to Islam among
traders in the Indian Ocean underpinned an international maritime culture and also helped to facilitate
commercial transactions. 8. Indian influence registered in Southeast Asia by causing political change.
Its rulers became more ambitious due to the wealth accrued and tried to construct larger more centrally

Buddhism. The inland states of Southeast Asia were more reliant on domestically preduced rice

Cliff Curtis Argumentative Essay
My position on this issue is, what I am guessing, different from most. I acknowledge that cross
racial/ethnic representation in the past has caused social complications, especially for minorities.
Historical blackface discussed in the module 8 eText was meant to perpetuate stereotypes of African
American men as either docile, loyal slaves or violent, animalistic thugs. I do not think anybody
would find that practice in the slightest bit appropriate in today s era.
However cross racial/ethnic representation does not have to be, and most certainly can be, done in a
way that is respectful to the other race that it is depicting. Unlike historical blackface, studio makeup
techniques and the technological editing capabilities of the industry has made it increasingly difficult
to even tell in actor s race in most cases. Furthermore, restricting people to their own biological race
can be counterintuitive for minorities opportunity in Hollywood. ... Show more content on

Essay about Ancient Civilizations
Early American Civilizations
Early American civilizations were composed of four different groups of people. These four groups
were composed of the Mayas, Aztecs, Incas, and the North Americans. These groups were the same in
many ways, but had some differences that would distinguish their group from the others. These
civilizations ruled the Americas for long period of time. These civilizations were the same in almost
every way, but they had their differences to show that they were a totally different group of people.
The first group that is going to be discussed is the Mayas. The Mayas were thought to be peaceful

The Maya script was written in hieroglyphs, which is one of the five basic writing systems ever
developed. This script was made up of phonetic symbols, standing for units of sound, and ideographs,
standing for words. According to Dr. Freidel, amp;#8220;Although the stone writings discuss only
royalty, evidence indicates a cooperative, sacred relationship between the elite and the commoners ;
(Reilly, 329). The Mayas were successful because of this harmony among these people.
The next group of people is the Aztecs. The Aztec civilization was the last of a long line of Native
American civilizations. The Aztecs were the close rivals of the Mayas. Like the Mayas, the Aztecs
also believed in torture and warfare. They also had very strict rules, especially when one was around a
king. For example, one would have to say, amp;#8220;Lord! My Lord! Sublime Lord! ; (Reilly, 331).
After that they would have to communicate in few words, the person would also have to keep their
eyes cast down, and when leaving one would have to walk backwards out of the room. Also like the
Mayas, the Aztecs had an advanced system of irrigation. The Aztecs also believed in sacrifice like the
Mayas. The Aztecs were just like the Mayas, but the were different because they

The Fight Against Catheter Associated Urinary Tract...
Over the years, the nursing practice has developed mechanisms towards improving service delivery
through research and management training. The fight against Catheter Associated Urinary Tract
Infections (CAUTIs) is one area that continuously attracts a lot of concern in nursing. Indwelling
urinary catheters (IUC) have been the best option in addressing CAUTI (Wilde et al., 2013). But this
has resulted in more health risks and compromised service delivery among nurses, calling for new
ways to either upgrade the existing mechanisms or invent new methods over the same. As a result, the
American Nurses Association, in conjunction with St. Francis Hospital clinical nurse specialists is
working on a pilot program that is in the last stages of its review. The program developed an evidence
based tool to be used in catheterization. Its main focus is to determine how health facilities can work
together to improve the quality of service delivery through good management, as well as evaluation of
its implication on performance, training, and future nursing practice (St. Francis Hospital and Medical
Center, 2016). As a result, this paper examines the milestone achieved by St Francis Hospital towards
quality improvement in catheter associated urinary tract contagions.
Literature Review The American Nurses Association and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention
indicate that CAUTI is the high prevalence healthcare associated infection variety; hence it accounts
for at least 30% of acute

Slavery In The Southern States
As United States citizens take a jump back into reasonably recent history, it is guaranteed that one will
find elements of slavery in the southern states. Slavery, something many people frown on in this day
an age, looked a little different back some 150 years ago. This was a major part of the southern
colonies government and wasn t the sure cause of the American Civil War. Moreover, slavery is how
their entire economy ran, with black people working on mega plantations, picking cotton, making
clothing, and even watching children of young ages. The aspect of slavery wasn t something that
southerners looked upon with a disapproving eye; it was something that people needed to survive and
make money off of. Slavery made their world go around, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Good Will In Kant s Simony Dilemma
The Simony Dilemma applies to anyone who obtained their position illegitimately by bribery, false
credentials, lying, inappropriate influence, etc. but does an outstanding job. An example would be if
someone was accepted to a prestigious university, but was not honest in their application. Of course
this person would be proud and honored to attend such a university, but they would know that they did
not truly deserve to be there, even if the excelled at the school. They would always have guilt that they
took someone else s spot who may have been more deserving. In this example of the Simony
Dilemma, Kant believes that a good will is an unqualified good, or a good without qualification.

Kant believes the moral quality of an act doesn t depend on consequences at all. In this way, kant
would say that it doesn t matter whether or not you take someone else s spot at a university, even if
they were more deserving. Kant claims we have moral obligations to ourselves and others. In his
argument, there are two kinds of obligations: perfect obligations and imperfect obligations. The
perfect obligation to ourselves is suicide as we use it to avoid pain. The perfect obligation to others is
promises as we use them to gain advantage. The imperfect obligation to ourselves is our talents as we
use our lives for mere enjoyment; we do not give ourselves full respect as moral and rational agent.
The imperfect obligation to others is charity as it does not give others full respect as moral and
rational agents. In

What impact did the Vikings have on North Britain
What impact did the Vikings have on North Britain?
Shortly before the ninth century, North west Europe was exposed to raids and attacks from the
Scandinavians. They had discovered the wealth that could be obtained from the richer communities of
Britain and Frankia, both in currency and natural resources (the latter being found especially in
Ireland). As time went on, during the course of the ninth century, the leaders of the attacks on these
countries grew more ambitious and soon there were different motives for raiding these places. Many
leaders had become content to stay and settle permanently in these abundantly richer countries. This
process of Viking settlement led to the integration of two cultures, between the peoples of the ... Show

composition on a macro scale . They usually consist of high performance fibres as reinforcing phases
and polymers or metals as matrices.
Generally two phases of composite they are matrix phase and reinforcement phase or dispersed phase.
Matrix is the primary phase, having a continuous character, and its usually more ductile and less hard
phase, it hold the dispersed phase and shares a load with it another one is reinforced phase is
embedded in the matrix in a discontinuous form. This secondary phase is dispersed phase .it usually
stronger then the matrix therefore it is sometimes act reinforcement phase.
Composition of fibres reinforced composite the fibres are important class of reinforcement, as they
satisfy the desired conditions and transfer strength to the matrix constituent influencing and enhancing
their properties as desire.
A polymer is defined as a long chain molecule containing one or more repeating units of atoms joined
together by strong covalent bonds. A polymeric material is a collection of a large number of polymer
molecules of similar chemical structure . matrix rein which provide the continuous phase of the
composite is expected to serve. Provide a uniform distribution of the structural and environment load
to the reinforcing fibre through a good adhesion and a strong interface with the reinforcement. A

The Myth Of An Angel
An angel is defined as a spiritual being believed to act as an attendant, agent, or messenger of God,
conventionally represented in human form with wings and a long robe. This definition explains what
many people believe an angel to be. When you hear the word angel, is this what you believe them to
be, too? On the other hand, Iblis is to be defined as a jinn who refused to bow to Adam. He is believed
to entice humans and jinn to commit evil through deception. Another name for Iblis would be Satan.
When you hear either of these names, is this what you believe this figure to be? Each of these figures
also has a connotation related to them in terms of good and evil. Being considered good is defined as
to be desired or approved of or that which is morally right. On the contrary, being considered evil is
defined as profoundly immoral and malevolent. By these definitions, I am sure that you can already
make an assumption on which force is evil and which is good. Throughout Islam, each of these beings
play a major role in the history and background of the religion, along with the importance of each in
terms of the part they play related to Allah. In relation to Allah, angels have a role that is well known
as instruments of his will. In the Qur an, angels are believed to belong to the belief in the unseen, and
that they elude capture through paintings, sculptures, and TV shows. Muslims have faith and belief not
only in Allah, but also in His angels, his messengers, in His

Hinduism And Its Impact On The Middle Of The Rye By F....
Hinduism is the fourth largest religion in the United States with approximately 2.2 million followers,
and is the third largest in the entire world with 900 million practitioners. Considering these
extraordinary statistics, it is not surprising Hinduism s wide range of influence touched J.D. Salinger,
author of the American classic Catcher in the Rye. The effects of Hinduism is evident in his writing,
especially in Teddy, a short story following a ten year old boy named Teddy. In American culture,
Teddy would be considered a troubled character, but according to Hinduism, he is a Jivamukti. This is
apparent in his pursuit of the purusharthas, spiritual beliefs, and interactions with other characters.
Teddy s management of the purusharthas demonstrate his spiritual maturity. His fulfillment of his
dharma is obvious in multiple instances, like when he made [Booper] wear dungarees so she s
adequately covered (Salinger 71), and also comforts Myron after Booper calls him the stupidest
person in this ocean. (Salinger 73). Dharma is usually only fulfilled in older souls, and his impeccable
dharma highlights his maturity. In addition, Teddy takes prioritization of Dharma over Moksha and
Kama. The majority of his entry are notes such as be nicer to the librarian , do not mention this when
you answer his letter in order to spare Mrs. Mandell s feelings, and write a condolence letter to Dr.
Wokawara about his nephritis (Salinger 74). Only a small portion of his diary, the

Caring For The Client With Post Cardiac Trauma Syndrome
Caring for the Client with Post Cardiac Trauma Syndrome
Post cardiac trauma syndrome has gone by many names over the past sixty years including:
postpericardiotomy syndrome, post traumatic pericarditis, post myocardial infarction syndrome, and
Dressler s syndrome. The first case was described by Dressler after a myocardial infarction in 1956.
This syndrome can occur after any type of injury to the pericardium and results in cardiac injury that
can lead to further complications. It is important for all nurses to know the signs, symptoms, and
treatment of this syndrome in order to provide the best care to their clients. The following report will
provide a thorough description of post cardiac trauma syndrome with an emphasis on the ... Show

One study showed that younger patients are more at risk for developing post cardiac trauma
syndrome. Some physicians think this may be due to the difference in immune response between the
young and old (Alraies, 2014). There is not an exact time frame that post cardiac trauma syndrome
follows, it can occur weeks or even months after the cardiac trauma and can last from a few weeks to
over six months.
Signs and Symptoms
There is not a specific definition to diagnose post cardiac trauma syndrome; however, the consensus
among investigators is that the patient needs to meet 2 out of 5 criteria to make a diagnosis. These
criteria are: fever without infection one week post event, pericardial friction rub, new or worsening
pericardial effusion, pleuritic chest pain, and new or worsening pleural effusion (Alraies, 2014).
Fever without infection. The client may have a fever as part of the body s immune response to the
antigens in the cardiac muscle. The signs and symptoms of a fever may include sweating, shivering,
headache, muscle aches, dehydration, fatigue, or confusion. Fever is a sign of infection so lab tests,
like blood and urine analysis, would need to be performed to rule out infection.
Pericardial friction rub. A pericardial friction rub occurs when the pericardium becomes inflamed and
rubs together causing a sound that can be heard when listening to the client s heart.

The Job of a Lawyer
The Job of a Lawyer I can t think of a better job than arguing with people. Ever since I was little I was
very good at arguing and everyone I ve argued with or heard me argued said to me, You would make a
great lawyer . These Lawyers have to take on many jobs and responsibilities, they also take a certain
physical qualifications as well as mental. You are there to make sure people get justice that someone
gets the closure or help they need to move on with their lives. Fighting crime doesn t always mean
literally. Being a lawyer means long hours and countless numbers of paperwork. Trial lawyers spend
most of their time researching clients cases(Lawyer 1 ) . The job requires you to look into cases as
well as records, comprehend the vocabulary, and be able to speak to people to get the information. In
this job you also handle a lot of paper work. You have to look for things in cases that most people won

trust. Lawyers, also called attorneys, act as both advocates and advisors. As advocators they represent
one of the parties in criminal or civil trials by presenting evidence and arguing in support of the client.
As advisors, lawyers counsel their clients about their legal right and obligations and suggest course of
the action in business and personal matters (Lawyer 3 ) . By playing two roles they have to take on

Argument Against Racial Profiling
In today s society, there are a lot of crimes taking place. The biggest part of being a part of the police
force is to protect and serve justice. Some believe that the police officers are doing their job while
others protest against what some of the police force is doing. Racial profiling is the use of
characteristics to determine whether a person maybe engaged in illegal activity.
Some of the ways that blacks are stereotyped is, maybe around twenty five years old, unemployed

been elimination of the gross stereo typing, or profiling, of young blacks as dangerous, drunk, drug

My Culture Is An Important Aspect Of Life
Culture is an important aspect of life. It influences each individual s life, allowing them to become the
person they are. Each person contributes a small part of their culture into society, creating a broader
culture. Because I live in an urban environment where many cultures have come together, I am aware
of how it influences me daily. When I was younger culture was not something I thought about,
however, as I got older I realized that it is an important part of my life.
My culture is a mixture of both American and Sri Lankan. I notice values and practices from each
culture that I apply to my life every day. I have taken both the individualistic and communalistic
attributes from both cultures and modified them to fit me. My American influence is often displayed
when I refuse to be complacent with the sexist behaviors of the Sri Lankan culture. When these verbal
or nonverbal actions are done in front of me, I speak up for myself. Defending myself from sexist
family members and voicing my opinion is part of my American culture. If I had lived in Sri Lanka I
would not be able to do so, easily.

interpreted as shy or soft spoken by an individual with an American background. Because I am often

Joseph II An Enlightened Despot
Joseph II of Austria (1741 1790) is portrayed as an enlightened despot because he improved the lives
of the landowners and peasants with many of his Josephinisms, his own domestic policies, like
advanced tools, religious freedom, and tax reduction. However, he was also battling the clergy
because his morals took power away from them and, at some points, Joseph lost sight of his
enlightened self and made decisions to gain political power. The image depicting him plowing a
peasant s field was published with hopes of advertising his integrity and good intentions to all.
However, Joseph II could not be truly enlightened if the power does not reside in the people. His
intentions were selfish and his priorities, besides helping the people, were to maintain his absolute
power by doing what he wanted to do. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

had oppressed the Protestants for centuries (Letters of Joseph II). Tolerance was not only for
Christians; Joseph granted equal civil rights to the Jews (Palmer 331). People felt a sense of religious
freedom which they never had before. This new tolerance was due to Joseph s secular outlook; he
wanted his people to pay more attention to social, and educational reforms inspired by the
Enlightenment rather than the church. The Enlightenment was human reason, an interest in science,
advertising religious toleration. Joseph took these political and cultural changes and applied them to
his reign which made him seem enlightened. He implemented the main ideas from the philosophes of

Edward s Life Had Been Perfect
Edward slowly stalked out of the dark, dusty cell. A guard lay motionless next to the open door, his
throat slit and his face drained of color. He had been trapped in the tiny room for months and he was
finally free. He inhaled deeply, taking in the ancient, musty air. The corridor that contained his cell
was dark, damp, and humid. There were streaks of red along the walls, most likely due to the massive
iron deposits above his underground prison. Edward took all of this in as he crept through the unlit
hallway, a small, jagged piece of bloody glass in hand. Seven years ago, Edward s life had been
perfect. He was healthy, rich, and respected. Many people looked up to him and he had no enemies. At
least, he thought that he had no enemies. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
His captors hadn t told him anything about where they were going and how long it would take. If he
remained like this, he would go insane. Hey, he demanded, how far away are we from the jail? One of
his kidnappers calmly replied, You had better not say anything else. Otherwise, my friend here will
gladly put a lead bullet into your privileged little skull. The rest of the car ride was dead silent.
Eventually, the car slowly came to a halt. He heard the 2 men in the front of the car shift in their seats.
Hey, he said, what are you Edward heard a dull thud and was knocked backward. The last things he
could remember were feeling a sharp, stinging pain in the front of his skull and slowly losing
consciousness. When he awoke, Edward noticed a throbbing pain in his head. He couldn t see
anything, thanks to the blindfold, and couldn t say anything due to the gag. His hands were tied behind
his back, his arms were bound with rope, and his feet were lashed together. His body was completely
immobilized. Behind him, Edward could hear some men whispering and metal scraping against the
floor. He strained to hear what they were discussing until his blindfold was removed. His eyes were
immediately blinded by the sudden reintroduction to the light and he instinctively shut them. When
they readjusted, Edward s eyes saw an extraordinary sight; he was in what appeared to be an
underground city. His captors severed the rope

Essay on The Reality of Political Realism
When discussing whether or not a nation state should enter a war and when to do so, three beliefs on
foreign policy and war exist. The three different diplomatic stances are that of pacifism, just war
theory, and political realism. Political realism, or realpolitik as it is often referred to, is the belief war
should only occur when it is in the national interest of the particular nation state. Henry Kissinger, a
political realist, in his book Diplomacy argues that realism is the only logical answer. Just war
theorists, along with pacifists, on the other hand oppose these arguments and therefore critique of this
form of diplomatic action. To construct a valid understanding of the realist perspective the arguments

Darwin s survival of the fittest was a strong belief Roosevelt held and theorized all life followed the
ideas of natural selection. Natural selection and survival of the fittest are theories that the strong will
naturally survive by both, eliminating the weak and having greater likelyhood to pass on.
With the German invasion of Luxenbourgh and Belgium directly breaking treaties previously signed
stating peace Roosevelt stated to not take sides. Roosevelt s reaction was that of no concern at first,
yet he was concerned once war erupted in Europe. Mainly concerned that the war would disrupt the
balance of power in Europe and the German invasions would lead to German invasions pressing
forward into Latin and South America. German military occupations in Latin America would pose a
direct threat for the US if this were to be true. Roosevelt felt the problem would inevitably resolve
itself prior to occupations in Latin America based on the principles that a balance of power still exists.
A balance of power is the way the European government had operated for quite sometime now. If one
nation state became all powerful and started campaigns to take over other nation states in Europe, a
coalition of nation states would form to put down the aggressing nation state to insure the stability of
their own nation state. Therefore, according to Roosevelt and his political realist views, a country

How Does Gene Mature In A Separate Peace
A Separate Peace by John Knowles, introduces the story of Genes arduous struggle to adulthood
during a time when the U.S. is experiencing World War I, Gene constantly lashes at himself for his
incompetence to understand his adolescent feelings and excel like his honest and capable best friend,
Phineas or nicknamed Finny. Furthermore, Gene avoids confronting his fears in hope to maintain his
childlike happiness at school in conformity, but no doubt, I believe; growth comes only from strife and
struggle, and Gene protects his conformity through obedience to his friends and teachers, thus, Gene is
safe and can not grow. Presumably, Gene, unconsciously, thrusts Finny of a high tree in a fit of
jealousy of Finny s athletic talents, of which, Finny ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I mull over my project for days, finally, I went to scroll through reference images including the Philip
Exeter school and A Separate Peace posters, hoping to draw inspiration for my piece. Meanwhile, I
notice the covers revolves around Gene and Finny sitting and hanging out on the lone tree as best
friends lounging together, which was inaccurate, Gene and Finny never climbs the tree to converse.
Thus, I did not feel the artist made justice of the relevance of the scene. So, I flip through my cool
dark blue sketchbook to a silky and blank neonate page; crisp and full of possibility. Thereupon, I
drew two people as Gene since Leper remarks, I could see both of them... the sun was blazing... the
rays... shooting past them...like golden machine gun fire... them looked... as black as death standing
there...one of them... holding the trunk... sank... up and down... the other one sank and fell (174 176).
There is an uncertainty whether Gene is in front or behind Finny, however, Gene and the readers
understand Gene is in front, who pushes Finny off. I display Gene on the tree with lax Finny falling
down the branches, I made Finny falling like an elegant leaf floating down to the ground. Moreover,
Finny extends his athletic arms outwards to Gene like a child to his stuffed teddy bear. This scene is a
cause to Gene s bitter step to adulthood.

From recent efforts of campus securities around the nation, the amount of bikes stolen has decreased

The Negative Effects Of Urbanization
When we speak of the term urbanization the outward expansion of human population from the city
centre, many feel the sense of triumph about the current living conditions, and are enlightened to do
great works on the planet. Of course, it is not wrong if one feels this sense of triumph at first, but the
ambiguity comes when the environmental aspect is placed in the talk. In this capitalistic world where
money and status are worshiped, many negative effects associated with urbanization are being
forgotten or dismissed. Luckily, David Suzuki, a Canadian environmental activist reminds the current
generation about the danger of damaging the environment, as well as the intriguing wonders that
nature provide, and most importantly that parents should encourage children to move away from the
indoors and enjoy the beauty of nature through his essay Hidden Lessons . I, however, certainly do not
experience much taste of triumphant over this matter. Undeniably, urbanization has gifted me a
comfortable home to live in, a reliable transportation to get around town, and a superb education under
the name of Agincourt Collegiate Institute. Yet, none of these would be available if it weren t for the
ultimate sacrifice of our wild friends on this planet. It overwhelms me when Suzuki claims that there
is something obscene and frightening about the disappearance of another species at our hand in his
essay (Suzuki). This is especially true over the past couple

Symptoms And Treatment Of Postoperative Surgery
Introduction
Most of patients are hoping to see well without spectacle or contact lenses. So in last years the
refractive surgery increased in patients dissatisfied with spectacles and contact lenses either due to
quality of vision, cosmetic appearance or difficulties in contact lenses wearing and its complications.
corneal surgeries like corneal ablation ( photorefractive keratectomy (PRK) and laser assisted in situ

correct s refractive errors in myopic patients [1,2].
Corneal surgeries, such as photorefractive keratectomy (PRK) and LASIK, have many limitations and
contraindications especially for the correction of high refractive errors. Postoperative ectasia which is
a major problem can occur with removing of too much corneal tissue to correct high myopia with the
laser. Night bad quality vision and dry eye complaints may be transient or permanent symptoms which
may cause dissatisfaction for refractive patients. Due to these limitations and complications,
indications for corneal refractive surgery have narrowed [3 6].
As many patients with myopia unsuitable for LASIK the Intraocular refractive procedures may be a
good alternative: high degrees of ametropia thin corneas and keratoconus suspect can be corrected,
more stable refraction, better visual quality in day and night

Proper Sizing
Ensuring the right size air conditioner is selected for your home is a task for the installer.
Unfortunately, wrong sized units are a common occurrence throughout the U.S. An undersized unit
will run excessively, increasing the electric bill, and increasing the need for air conditioning repair as
the unit wears out prematurely. On the other hand, an over sized unit will fail to run long enough to

Most educators believe that children with disabilities and nondisabled children should be taught
together whenever possible. Isolating children with disabilities may lower their self esteem and may
reduce their ability to deal with other people. The practice of integrating children with disabilities into
regular school programs is called mainstreaming, or inclusion. Students with disabilities attend special
classrooms or schools only if their need for very specialized services makes mainstreaming
impossible. Many children with disabilities attend regular classes most of the school day: They work
with a specially trained teacher for part of each day to improve specific skills. These sessions may be
held in a classroom called a resource room, which may be equipped with such materials as Braille
typewriters and relief maps for blind students. Other students with disabilities attend special classes
most of the day but join the rest of the children for certain activities. For example, students with
mental retardation (MR) may join other children who do not have MR for art and physical education.
Although the place where instruction occurs (the setting) is seen as important in the field of special
education, the types of curricular modifications and interventions may be a more important area to
focus on in the future.

Are alternative energy sources the answer to ending human dependence on oil? Right now there is no
one substitute for oil because we use it for a variety of things. We can use alternative sources in areas
to preserve or conserve our usage of oil. We use to use wood for fires and light. Then in the industrial
revolution we began to use coal. Coal can provide much more energy over longer periods than wood
or any other biomass product. Forests were also diminishing in many regions because they were being

Gene Therapy Of Tay Sachs Using A Modified Adenovirus
Gene Therapy of Tay Sachs Using a Modified Adenovirus
Akash J. Patel
Abstract: Tay Sach s disease results in an accumulation of lipids in the brain s nerve cells. The
underlying cause of Tay Sachs disease is a mutation in a gene that codes for a lytic enzyme known as
Hexosaminidase A (Hex A). Tay Sachs as well as other lipid storage diseases are incurable, but we
believe that gene therapy has the potential for widespread correction of the lipid storage defect in
humans by means of the cross correction cellular pathway. The vehicle of transportation for the
functional copy of the gene is a modified version of the Adenovirus. An advantage of the adenovirus is
that its genome does not integrate into the host genome to transcribe its ... Show more content on

Functional Hex A enzymes are lytic enzymes, which degrade these old gangliosides and expel them as

results in the lipid build up that can cause neuronal death which lead to the symptoms of Tay Sach s.
The most common form of Tay Sachs takes place during infancy. Infants with the disease usually
show no symptoms until four to six months of age, this is usually when their development and motor
skills tend to weaken. As the disease develops, the infants start to experience seizures as well as vision
and hearing loss. Paralysis and a drop in intelligence have also been observed. Children with Tay
Sachs usually live only to about five years of age. Because of the high lethality rate any measures
toward a cure must be aggressive. As of date there are no tested treatment options for the disease but
there are a few options that have shown promise for other lipid storage diseases.
Enzyme Replacement Therapy:
Gaucher s disease is a lipid storage disease similar to Tay Sach s because its deficiency of a lytic
lysosomal enzyme. Gaucher s disease is in regards to which parts of the body it affects. Tay Sach s
affects the CNS while Gaucher s affects the spleen and liver. The main treatment option of Gaucher s
is enzyme replacement therapy (ERT). The deficient lytic enzyme (glucoserebrosidase) is injected
intravenously and directed toward the lysosomes in

College Basketball Players Should Be Paid
Along with college football, college basketball, particularly division I basketball, is one of the main
sports that many people enjoy watching. During the month of March division I basketball has a huge
men s tournament called March Madness. March Madness brought in $701 million this past season
(Hruby 1). Where does all of that money go if the athletes do not receive any of it? That is an
enormous amount of revenue that division I basketball players alone brought in just for one year.
Should division I basketball players receive pay for their works on the court? College basketball
players are students and not professional athletes. College basketball players also get scholarships, so
why should they get non educational pay as well ( College Athletes 2)? This extra pay seems unfair
for other students. However, not only do college basketball players have to focus on their grades and
academics, which is a full time commitment, but they also have to focus on basketball another full
time commitment. If the college basketball player does not perform well in either of these areas they
could lose their scholarship money because it can easily be taken away (Cooper 4). Division I
basketball players should be paid and treated equal as other students.
While they have people that believe division I basketball players should be paid; there are some
people that believe that division one college athlete should not be paid. Ava Cambio, from Matlacha,
Florida, believe that if

Hildegard Von Bingen
Music has been around for ages and still plays a critical role in everyone s life. During the Medieval
period, many turned to the arts and music to cope with the hardships of that time. The history of music
is best told by the styles that emerged and the composers who lived during the Medieval period. One
composer, by the name of Hildegard Von Bingen, changed the way people saw music during this time.
In this essay, I will analyze O Virtus Sapientiae by Hildegard Von Bingen.
When listening to Hildegard s piece, my temporary state of mind becomes more serene and spiritual
(Mood). The piece creates an atmosphere that helps me forget about my troubles and gives me hope.
Because the song sounds like something you would hear if you were to go to church to worship, it
makes me think of religion; Specifically being at church (Imagery). As I listened and closed my eyes, I
could picture myself sitting in church and looking at the light that passes through the stained glass
windows. Hildegard s piece reminds me of waking up on ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Melody relates to pitches that are in succession. We know this because there s a female vocalist who is
moving from one note to the next and only singing that note at a time. The Viola being played only
plays one note at a time and serves as a drone. A drone is a rudimentary version of Medieval harmony
which is a single, sustained pitch played or sung as accompaniment. The melodic style of the song is
Legato, or notes that are smooth and connected in style. At the timestamp 2:24 2:27, the vocals are at
the highest and loudest point of the melody, which is called a melodic climax. This musical element
helps draws attention to specific words in the text. Hildegard specifically manipulated musical
elements in order to bring emphasis to certain words in a text, an effect in which she shows that music
can heighten emotions and/or direct the listener s

A Market Analysis Will Be On Nike, Inc.
This market analysis will be on Nike, Inc. using the Porter s Five Forces designed by Porter, (2008):
1) Competitive Rivalry within the Industry, 2) Bargaining Power of Suppliers, 3) Bargaining Power of
Customers, 4) Threat of New Entrants, and 5) Threat of Substitute Products. Nike was founded in
1964 by Bill Bowerman a track coach at the University of Oregon who developed lightweight, durable
running shoes along with Phil Knight one of his runners and a student of business at the University.
Almost from the onset of this company factories overseas were utilized to produce the products
starting in Japan and later spreading to many other countries with inexpensive labor forces. Nike after
years of growth went from a $1 million in sales ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
1) Competitive Rivalry within the Industry Extremely High
The level of competition in the sector of athletic shoes, apparel and equipment is extremely high
between two primary businesses in this category and that is Adidas and Nike. Other shoe businesses
also are fighting to take a pieces of the market with new products and promotions these companies
include for athletic shoes brands such as Reebok, Puma, Under Armour, Converse, Vans, New
Balance, Fila, Asics, Keds, Geox, Rockport, Ecko and for clothing brands new competitors such as
Tommy Hilfiger, Ralph Lauren, Nautica and the Gap. All of these emerging brands with some of them
having their own customer bases or brand loyalty do threaten Nike s control of the largest segment of
the market. It is not so much the price of the shoes but the branding that drives the market. So if the
brand is popular than that is what the customer is looking for more than price. Much of this threat to
Nikes branding is from changing customer preferences for what brand of sports shoes that they want.
To compete within this market a constant string of creative new invention using newer technology to
appeal to the consumer has to take place. Nike fortunately has such brand recognition and customer
loyalty along with numerous patents on materials and designs that they can continue to hold onto the
lead and seem to continue to grow into other market segments using brand line extensions as well.

Comparison Of Interstellar, By Christopher Nolan, And...
We all dream of an ulterior world, a world in which we picture a perfect life with no struggles,
problems, or pandemics. Both Interstellar, by Christopher Nolan, and Station Eleven by Emily
Mandel, depict their characters as struggling not only with survival, but their sense of their own
identity and security. Within Station Eleven, the saying, survival is insufficient is a recurring theme of
Interstellar as well. While there are some differences in the characters and themes within Interstellar
and Station Eleven, the similarities are the connections to their identity in which they adapt to the
force of change within their world. As the characters struggle with adapting, they cling to certain
things that allow them to remain sane. As a result, the characters feel like they have a purpose again
due to their struggle for survival.
Within their harsh and collapsing worlds, Murph and Kirsten are the puzzle pieces that connect their
stories together. For example, Murph cracks the code of the theory of gravity with the help of her
ghost, her father within the third dimension, providing her the missing information that saves their
planet from extinction. All that time, Murph tediously trying to figure out what her ghost was trying to
communicate, Murph finally makes the realization that he came back! It was him! All this time... I... I
didn t know it was him. On the other hand, Kirsten, in the Dr. Eleven Comics is able to retrace the
steps of Arthur and other characters

The Iciocultural Effects Of The Mayan Language In Guatemala
The Mayan language is spoken in Guatemala. At this moment there are around five million people that
speak the indigenous language in Guatemala. The Mayan language has been noticed to not be an
actual language (idiomas) but seen to be dialects without consistent and coherent grammatical
structures (Barrett). The Mayan language has had a drastic change and signs of losses of their
language because children in Guatemala have been prevented in learning their language. Mayan
speakers had faced horrible events between 1981 83 causing major damages to their language.
The Mayan people were nomads an example of how the cavemen lived, the indigenous language
never flourished on expanding their language as the years went by. Their society has not been properly
civilized, while the education in Guatemala didn t help the children. Technology, government, and
anthropologists played a big role in the Mayan language. It helped their language to survive and for
the world to learn about their language and understand their culture, living environment, customs, and
beliefs.
The population of the Mayan people was decreasing at a fast rate the reason why was because of the
warfare that was going on in Guatemala. In the article Guatemalan Indian children and the
sociocultural effects of government sponsored terrorisms Margarita discusses the decrease of
population, in Guatemala, the Mayan population felt the worst of a systematic and brutal
counterinsurgency, where over 400 rural villages

Environment Issues Of Hong Kong Essay
Environment Issues in Hong Kong
Introduction
Waste has been a common problem in most of the developed regions. Hong Kong is not an exception;
the problem has been deteriorating as the society develops and its population grows. The country
produces waste huge amount every day and it is estimated to be increasing by 3 percent in every year.
According to the research conducted by Ambrose and Harris (2011), most of the waste in this nation is
handled by land filling. Young (2014) expressed a similar idea where he claimed that in 2003 the land
is approximated to have received average daily waste of 17757 tonnes. However, the existing landfills
are anticipated to be filled within 8 10 years if the current trend of waste generation continues.
However, Hong Kong has a limited land resource, and it s hard to find new land filling sites. This
raises the need to improve the situation ensuring continuous development. One of the most notable
types of waste is the waste resulting from packaging material. Packing is done basically to protect
products from damaging thus ensuring the quality of the product is preserved. Yucel and Ozkan
(2015)by summarizing the work of many others claims that over the years, consumerism has become
more apparent influencing packaging to come up with various complex designs with a motive of
attracting consumers. Cela and Kaneko(2013) claimed that most of the packaging waste result from
domestic activities accounting for 43 percent, followed by

A Balanced View Of Gaming And Social Behavior
A balanced view of Gaming and Social Behavior Video games are the single largest new source of
media consumption. 91% of children in the United States between the ages of 2 and 17 play video
games (NPD Group). Playing videogames is far more evenly distributed than portrayed in movies and
television. A nationally representative study of teenagers in the United States found that up to 99% of
boys and 94% of girls partake in some form of videogames (Lenhart et al, 2008). This massive new
trend has led many to speculate and analyze the effect videogames might have on their player s social
behavior. Many have studies have correlated gaming with short term aggression. However, almost no
one has looked for potential benefits that playing games might have. A small portion of gaming
behavior research has begun to bring to light several benefits of engaging in modern videogames. A
changing landscape of both content, and engagement requires that researches reevaluate their methods
of study regarding behavior and gaming. The clear majority of studies aimed at finding a relationship
between videogames and behavior have been focused on negative impacts. Media coverage of mass
shootings often highlight if the gunman played violent videogames. The fact that the Sandy Hook
shooter played video games was referenced when Congress allocated $10 million for research into
videogames and violence (Obama Biden, 2013). These studies have produced valuable findings, but

Examples Of Prejudicial Language In Hip Hop
Prejean 1 Louis Prejean Joseph Lejuine English 102 17 October 2017 Prejudicial language in hip hop:
How explicit lyrics can lead a movement Hip hop is a genre of music that has developed a culture of
its own. Artists treat the process of creating a hip hop song as a form of art. The culture began with
breaking in 1925 when Earl Tucker performed at The Cotton Club and his moves inspired one aspect
of hip hop culture. It progressed into the music element when Thomas Wong blasted American records
with his sound system. The culture known as hip hop was first coined by DJ Lovebug Starski four
years after The Last Poets formed their group and combined jazz with spoken word. Hip hop started to
become popular when Sugarhill Gang s Rapper s Delight became the first hip hop song to hit the
Billboard charts at 36. February 14, 1981 marked another milestone for the culture when The Funky 4
became the first hip hop group to perform on national television. They performed their song That s the
Joint on NBC s Saturday Night Live. In 1988, the hip hop group NWA released one of their most
infamous songs F*** Tha Police to speak out against police brutality and the injustice people of color
face in society. They were the pioneers of using hip hop to create awareness. Twenty nine years later
the song still holds the same relevance today as it did then. The strong language utilized by the
members of NWA emphasized their frustration. Other hip hop artists, whether from the past like

  • 2. Egalitarianism In The Sapphires Good morning/afternoon and welcome to the 2018 annual Australian Film Festival. The Australian films represented here today are examples of egalitarianism and the idea of a fair go for all. They depict the underdog, and their drive to succeed and achieve. In many Australian films today these two qualities are shown throughout which makes for a captivating and exciting film experience. Iconic films such as The Sapphires and Ned Kelly depict Australians fighting against injustice, personal issues and inequality, showing the value of a fair go and egalitarianism. The film The Sapphires is set in the 1960 s and is based on a true story, portrays four young Aboriginal women singers who fight against egalitarianism and white society judgement in order to be ... Both the films address the issue of egalitarianism, and although they are set in extremely different times in history, both represent the struggles people face in society, whether it is due to ethnicity or social injustice. In both films the main characters are looked down upon by society as underdogs, in many ways due to circumstances that are beyond their control. In The Sapphires they do not have much of a leverage because of their race and continue to be looked down upon by the white people because they are black. In the case of Ned Kelly, Kelly was born into a disadvantaged family. Due to being part of the Kelly family he too was looked down upon by society. Both Australian films represent the idea of the underdog. They show the struggle that each character is faced with, and the fight to overcome the injustice that they face on a day to day basis. • 3. CONTROL PARADIGM This move toward abstinence, sobriety, moderation, and puritanical thoughts about sex is more than a trend. It s a practical program that expands the limits of law enforcement, the authority of employers, and ultimately its own parameters. Big Brother IS looking over your shoulder. Across American society one sees effort after effort to restore social cohesion, re assert authority, and basically get a grip on the energies that have been unleashed over the past quarter century. Universities are re imposing curfews as well as rules on cohabitation, unsupervised parties, fraternity hazing, and sexual conduct. Legislatures across the country are controlling Internet smut, tobacco advertising, and labeling violent TV programming, video games, and rock and rap lyrics as bad. Cities across the nation have imposed controls on panhandling, vagrancy, public drinking, and littering. Community policing programs have given law enforcement more day to day authority in high crimeareas. Cameras and scanners are everywhere. It usually begins with an actual problem, for example, teen pregnancy or the real dangers of drugs, but while an obvious response might be sex and drug education (and not the lies perpetrated by programs such as DARE), or birth control and teaching safe drinking habits. Instead, we are told that the best way to solve teen pregnancy is abstinence (which instills guilt about sexual activity), or that the best way to curb drug use is to scare people and to lie to them. Real healthproblems, such as AIDS and STDs become the occasion for wholesale sexual purges, and real problems with drugs are couched in an abuse paradigm, as if to do drugs means only to ABUSE them, and to talk about safe drug use is profane. • 4. Ways of the World Second Edition Chapter 7 Questions Jonathon Martin Period 1 Chapter 8 Questions 1. Long distance commerce acted as a motor of change in pre modern world history by altering consumption and daily life. Essential food and useful tools such as salt were traded from the Sahara desert all the way to West Africa and salt was used as a food preserver. Some incenses essential to religious ceremonies were traded across the world because there was a huge demand for them. Trade diminished economic self sufficiency by creating a reliance on traded goods and encouraged people to specialize and trade a particular skill. Trade motivated the creation of a state due to the wealth accumulated from controlling and taxing trade. Trade posed the problem of if the government or private ... Widespread conversion to Islam among traders in the Indian Ocean underpinned an international maritime culture and also helped to facilitate commercial transactions. 8. Indian influence registered in Southeast Asia by causing political change. Its rulers became more ambitious due to the wealth accrued and tried to construct larger more centrally governed cities and states. • 5. Cliff Curtis Argumentative Essay My position on this issue is, what I am guessing, different from most. I acknowledge that cross racial/ethnic representation in the past has caused social complications, especially for minorities. Historical blackface discussed in the module 8 eText was meant to perpetuate stereotypes of African American men as either docile, loyal slaves or violent, animalistic thugs. I do not think anybody would find that practice in the slightest bit appropriate in today s era. However cross racial/ethnic representation does not have to be, and most certainly can be, done in a way that is respectful to the other race that it is depicting. Unlike historical blackface, studio makeup techniques and the technological editing capabilities of the industry has made it increasingly difficult to even tell in actor s race in most cases. Furthermore, restricting people to their own biological race can be counterintuitive for minorities opportunity in Hollywood. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... His performances have wowed audiences of all races because he does not take the task lightly I take the responsibility of playing another ethnicity very, very seriously, he says, and I promise myself and those people that I will represent them with as much dignity and integrity as I can muster. • 6. Essay about Ancient Civilizations Early American Civilizations Early American civilizations were composed of four different groups of people. These four groups were composed of the Mayas, Aztecs, Incas, and the North Americans. These groups were the same in many ways, but had some differences that would distinguish their group from the others. These civilizations ruled the Americas for long period of time. These civilizations were the same in almost every way, but they had their differences to show that they were a totally different group of people. The Mayas were successful because of this harmony among these people. The next group of people is the Aztecs. The Aztec civilization was the last of a long line of Native American civilizations. The Aztecs were the close rivals of the Mayas. Like the Mayas, the Aztecs also believed in torture and warfare. They also had very strict rules, especially when one was around a king. • 7. The Fight Against Catheter Associated Urinary Tract... Over the years, the nursing practice has developed mechanisms towards improving service delivery through research and management training. The fight against Catheter Associated Urinary Tract Infections (CAUTIs) is one area that continuously attracts a lot of concern in nursing. Indwelling urinary catheters (IUC) have been the best option in addressing CAUTI (Wilde et al., 2013). But this has resulted in more health risks and compromised service delivery among nurses, calling for new ways to either upgrade the existing mechanisms or invent new methods over the same. As a result, the American Nurses Association, in conjunction with St. Francis Hospital clinical nurse specialists is working on a pilot program that is in the last stages of its review. The program developed an evidence based tool to be used in catheterization. Its main focus is to determine how health facilities can work together to improve the quality of service delivery through good management, as well as evaluation of its implication on performance, training, and future nursing practice (St. Francis Hospital and Medical Center, 2016). As a result, this paper examines the milestone achieved by St Francis Hospital towards quality improvement in catheter associated urinary tract contagions. Literature Review The American Nurses Association and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention indicate that CAUTI is the high prevalence healthcare associated infection variety; hence it accounts for at least 30% of acute ... Good Will In Kant s Simony Dilemma The Simony Dilemma applies to anyone who obtained their position illegitimately by bribery, false credentials, lying, inappropriate influence, etc. but does an outstanding job. An example would be if someone was accepted to a prestigious university, but was not honest in their application. Of course this person would be proud and honored to attend such a university, but they would know that they did not truly deserve to be there, even if the excelled at the school. They would always have guilt that they took someone else s spot who may have been more deserving. You might feel the negativity energy during the entire movie. A DIFFERENT EXAMPLE FOR REFERENCE: The use of an elevator is a common thing. Most Americans use the elevator without incident, and we all know how to behave in one. For example, it is a norm that when you get into an elevator, if someone is standing in one corner, you go to the other corner. You do NOT stand right next to them and crowd them when the rest of the elevator is empty. Another norm would be that you face the doors you do NOT keep your back to the door and stare at the other people in the elevator. So, think about why these norms are in place and what purpose they serve (some hints would be to think about personal space, our tolerance for strangers, etc). Hinduism is the fourth largest religion in the United States with approximately 2.2 million followers, and is the third largest in the entire world with 900 million practitioners. Considering these extraordinary statistics, it is not surprising Hinduism s wide range of influence touched J.D. Salinger, author of the American classic Catcher in the Rye. The effects of Hinduism is evident in his writing, especially in Teddy, a short story following a ten year old boy named Teddy. In American culture, Teddy would be considered a troubled character, but according to Hinduism, he is a Jivamukti. This is apparent in his pursuit of the purusharthas, spiritual beliefs, and interactions with other characters. Teddy s management of the purusharthas demonstrate his spiritual maturity. His fulfillment of his dharma is obvious in multiple instances, like when he made [Booper] wear dungarees so she s adequately covered (Salinger 71), and also comforts Myron after Booper calls him the stupidest person in this ocean. (Salinger 73). Dharma is usually only fulfilled in older souls, and his impeccable dharma highlights his maturity. In addition, Teddy takes prioritization of Dharma over Moksha and Kama. These criteria are: fever without infection one week post event, pericardial friction rub, new or worsening pericardial effusion, pleuritic chest pain, and new or worsening pleural effusion (Alraies, 2014). However, he was also battling the clergy because his morals took power away from them and, at some points, Joseph lost sight of his enlightened self and made decisions to gain political power. The image depicting him plowing a peasant s field was published with hopes of advertising his integrity and good intentions to all. Other students with disabilities attend special classes most of the day but join the rest of the children for certain activities. For example, students with mental retardation (MR) may join other children who do not have MR for art and physical education. Although the place where instruction occurs (the setting) is seen as important in the field of special education, the types of curricular modifications and interventions may be a more important area to focus on in the future. Right now there is no one substitute for oil because we use it for a variety of things. We can use alternative sources in areas to preserve or conserve our usage of oil. We use to use wood for fires and light. Then in the industrial revolution we began to use coal. Coal can provide much more energy over longer periods than wood or any other biomass product. Forests were also diminishing in many regions because they were being consumed for fuel. (Eric McLamb). Edwin L. Drake drilled the world s first oil well in 1859 and launched the petroleum industry. • 42. Gene Therapy Of Tay Sachs Using A Modified Adenovirus Gene Therapy of Tay Sachs Using a Modified Adenovirus Akash J. Patel Abstract: Tay Sach s disease results in an accumulation of lipids in the brain s nerve cells. The underlying cause of Tay Sachs disease is a mutation in a gene that codes for a lytic enzyme known as Hexosaminidase A (Hex A). Tay Sachs as well as other lipid storage diseases are incurable, but we believe that gene therapy has the potential for widespread correction of the lipid storage defect in humans by means of the cross correction cellular pathway. The vehicle of transportation for the functional copy of the gene is a modified version of the Adenovirus. An advantage of the adenovirus is that its genome does not integrate into the host genome to transcribe its ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Functional Hex A enzymes are lytic enzymes, which degrade these old gangliosides and expel them as waste. Patients with Tay Sach s have a mutation in the gene that codes for the Hex A enzyme, this results in the lipid build up that can cause neuronal death which lead to the symptoms of Tay Sach s. The most common form of Tay Sachs takes place during infancy. Infants with the disease usually show no symptoms until four to six months of age, this is usually when their development and motor skills tend to weaken. As the disease develops, the infants start to experience seizures as well as vision and hearing loss. Paralysis and a drop in intelligence have also been observed. Children with Tay Sachs usually live only to about five years of age. Because of the high lethality rate any measures toward a cure must be aggressive. As of date there are no tested treatment options for the disease but there are a few options that have shown promise for other lipid storage diseases. Enzyme Replacement Therapy: Gaucher s disease is a lipid storage disease similar to Tay Sach s because its deficiency of a lytic lysosomal enzyme. Gaucher s disease is in regards to which parts of the body it affects. Tay Sach s affects the CNS while Gaucher s affects the spleen and liver. The main treatment option of Gaucher s is enzyme replacement therapy (ERT). The deficient lytic enzyme (glucoserebrosidase) is injected intravenously and directed toward the lysosomes in ... • 43. College Basketball Players Should Be Paid Along with college football, college basketball, particularly division I basketball, is one of the main sports that many people enjoy watching. During the month of March division I basketball has a huge men s tournament called March Madness. March Madness brought in $701 million this past season (Hruby 1). Where does all of that money go if the athletes do not receive any of it? That is an enormous amount of revenue that division I basketball players alone brought in just for one year. Should division I basketball players receive pay for their works on the court? College basketball players are students and not professional athletes. College basketball players also get scholarships, so why should they get non educational pay as well ( College Athletes 2)? This extra pay seems unfair for other students. However, not only do college basketball players have to focus on their grades and academics, which is a full time commitment, but they also have to focus on basketball another full time commitment. If the college basketball player does not perform well in either of these areas they could lose their scholarship money because it can easily be taken away (Cooper 4). Division I basketball players should be paid and treated equal as other students. While they have people that believe division I basketball players should be paid; there are some people that believe that division one college athlete should not be paid. • 44. Hildegard Von Bingen Music has been around for ages and still plays a critical role in everyone s life. During the Medieval period, many turned to the arts and music to cope with the hardships of that time. The history of music is best told by the styles that emerged and the composers who lived during the Medieval period. One composer, by the name of Hildegard Von Bingen, changed the way people saw music during this time. In this essay, I will analyze O Virtus Sapientiae by Hildegard Von Bingen. When listening to Hildegard s piece, my temporary state of mind becomes more serene and spiritual (Mood). The piece creates an atmosphere that helps me forget about my troubles and gives me hope. Because the song sounds like something you would hear if you were to go to church to worship, it makes me think of religion; Specifically being at church (Imagery). As I listened and closed my eyes, I could picture myself sitting in church and looking at the light that passes through the stained glass windows. Hildegard s piece reminds me of waking up on ... We know this because there s a female vocalist who is moving from one note to the next and only singing that note at a time. The Viola being played only plays one note at a time and serves as a drone. A drone is a rudimentary version of Medieval harmony which is a single, sustained pitch played or sung as accompaniment. The melodic style of the song is Legato, or notes that are smooth and connected in style. At the timestamp 2:24 2:27, the vocals are at the highest and loudest point of the melody, which is called a melodic climax. This musical element helps draws attention to specific words in the text. Hildegard specifically manipulated musical elements in order to bring emphasis to certain words in a text, an effect in which she shows that music can heighten emotions and/or direct the listener s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... 1) Competitive Rivalry within the Industry Extremely High The level of competition in the sector of athletic shoes, apparel and equipment is extremely high between two primary businesses in this category and that is Adidas and Nike. Other shoe businesses also are fighting to take a pieces of the market with new products and promotions these companies include for athletic shoes brands such as Reebok, Puma, Under Armour, Converse, Vans, New Balance, Fila, Asics, Keds, Geox, Rockport, Ecko and for clothing brands new competitors such as Tommy Hilfiger, Ralph Lauren, Nautica and the Gap. All of these emerging brands with some of them having their own customer bases or brand loyalty do threaten Nike s control of the largest segment of the market. It is not so much the price of the shoes but the branding that drives the market. So if the brand is popular than that is what the customer is looking for more than price. Much of this threat to Nikes branding is from changing customer preferences for what brand of sports shoes that they want. To compete within this market a constant string of creative new invention using newer technology to appeal to the consumer has to take place. Nike fortunately has such brand recognition and customer loyalty along with numerous patents on materials and designs that they can continue to hold onto the lead and seem to continue to grow into other market segments using brand line extensions as well. • 47. Comparison Of Interstellar, By Christopher Nolan, And... We all dream of an ulterior world, a world in which we picture a perfect life with no struggles, problems, or pandemics. Both Interstellar, by Christopher Nolan, and Station Eleven by Emily Mandel, depict their characters as struggling not only with survival, but their sense of their own identity and security. Within Station Eleven, the saying, survival is insufficient is a recurring theme of Interstellar as well. While there are some differences in the characters and themes within Interstellar and Station Eleven, the similarities are the connections to their identity in which they adapt to the force of change within their world. As the characters struggle with adapting, they cling to certain things that allow them to remain sane. As a result, the characters feel like they have a purpose again due to their struggle for survival. Within their harsh and collapsing worlds, Murph and Kirsten are the puzzle pieces that connect their stories together. For example, Murph cracks the code of the theory of gravity with the help of her ghost, her father within the third dimension, providing her the missing information that saves their planet from extinction. All that time, Murph tediously trying to figure out what her ghost was trying to communicate, Murph finally makes the realization that he came back! It was him! All this time... I... At this moment there are around five million people that speak the indigenous language in Guatemala. The Mayan language has been noticed to not be an actual language (idiomas) but seen to be dialects without consistent and coherent grammatical structures (Barrett). The Mayan language has had a drastic change and signs of losses of their language because children in Guatemala have been prevented in learning their language. Mayan speakers had faced horrible events between 1981 83 causing major damages to their language. The Mayan people were nomads an example of how the cavemen lived, the indigenous language never flourished on expanding their language as the years went by. Their society has not been properly civilized, while the education in Guatemala didn t help the children. Technology, government, and anthropologists played a big role in the Mayan language. It helped their language to survive and for the world to learn about their language and understand their culture, living environment, customs, and beliefs. The population of the Mayan people was decreasing at a fast rate the reason why was because of the warfare that was going on in Guatemala. • 49. Environment Issues Of Hong Kong Essay Environment Issues in Hong Kong Introduction Waste has been a common problem in most of the developed regions. Hong Kong is not an exception; the problem has been deteriorating as the society develops and its population grows. The country produces waste huge amount every day and it is estimated to be increasing by 3 percent in every year. According to the research conducted by Ambrose and Harris (2011), most of the waste in this nation is handled by land filling. Young (2014) expressed a similar idea where he claimed that in 2003 the land is approximated to have received average daily waste of 17757 tonnes. However, the existing landfills are anticipated to be filled within 8 10 years if the current trend of waste generation continues. However, Hong Kong has a limited land resource, and it s hard to find new land filling sites. This raises the need to improve the situation ensuring continuous development. One of the most notable types of waste is the waste resulting from packaging material. Packing is done basically to protect products from damaging thus ensuring the quality of the product is preserved. Yucel and Ozkan (2015)by summarizing the work of many others claims that over the years, consumerism has become more apparent influencing packaging to come up with various complex designs with a motive of attracting consumers. Playing videogames is far more evenly distributed than portrayed in movies and television. A nationally representative study of teenagers in the United States found that up to 99% of boys and 94% of girls partake in some form of videogames (Lenhart et al, 2008). This massive new trend has led many to speculate and analyze the effect videogames might have on their player s social behavior. Many have studies have correlated gaming with short term aggression. However, almost no one has looked for potential benefits that playing games might have. A small portion of gaming behavior research has begun to bring to light several benefits of engaging in modern videogames. A changing landscape of both content, and engagement requires that researches reevaluate their methods of study regarding behavior and gaming. The clear majority of studies aimed at finding a relationship between videogames and behavior have been focused on negative impacts. Media coverage of mass shootings often highlight if the gunman played violent videogames. The fact that the Sandy Hook shooter played video games was referenced when Congress allocated $10 million for research into videogames and violence (Obama Biden, 2013). • 51. Examples Of Prejudicial Language In Hip Hop Prejean 1 Louis Prejean Joseph Lejuine English 102 17 October 2017 Prejudicial language in hip hop: How explicit lyrics can lead a movement Hip hop is a genre of music that has developed a culture of its own. Artists treat the process of creating a hip hop song as a form of art. The culture began with breaking in 1925 when Earl Tucker performed at The Cotton Club and his moves inspired one aspect of hip hop culture. It progressed into the music element when Thomas Wong blasted American records with his sound system. The culture known as hip hop was first coined by DJ Lovebug Starski four years after The Last Poets formed their group and combined jazz with spoken word. Hip hop started to become popular when Sugarhill Gang s Rapper s Delight became the first hip hop song to hit the Billboard charts at 36. February 14, 1981 marked another milestone for the culture when The Funky 4 became the first hip hop group to perform on national television. They performed their song That s the Joint on NBC s Saturday Night Live. In 1988, the hip hop group NWA released one of their most infamous songs F*** Tha Police to speak out against police brutality and the injustice people of color face in society.
