Asylum seekers or refugees have fled their countries due to volatile circumstances such as war, or
fear of prosecution. Upon arrival in Australia they are moved to detention centres. Detention centres
hold people who have come without a visa, any non national and all unauthorised boat arrivals
(Australian Human Rights Commission, 2014). These centres hold refugees for indefinite periods
and in poor conditions. They are used as a spectacle to represent illegality and a threat to Australian
society (Marfleet, 2007, p672).
The spectacle of detention centres does not only lie within public perception but also within the
architecture of the facility (Grinceri, 2016, p170 171). The barbed wired fence of detention centres
is an example. It allows the spectators (citizens) to witness the enclosure of refugees while
simultaneously binding refugees within its constraints, punishingly (Pugilese, 2008, p206 207).

The printed work of the Dust Bowl written by Donald Worster tells of the devastating man made
events that occurred between 1929 and 1939. Worster described this time in history as the darkest
moment life in the southern plains encountered in the twentieth century (4) which was a time
where drought, poverty, and famine were of concern. Worster also ties the Great Depressionwith the
Dust Bowland said that the same society produced them both because of the weakness of

the cycle of rain stopped, causing the soil to blow away. The natural way that wildlife lived was
disrupted by civilization, and since nature was damaged, the mutual cooperation between
humans, land, animals, and soil failed. Man wanted to proceed forward, but their desire for
wealth caused them a Great Depression, and a horrendous storm that wiped away their land.
The expansion to the frontier and the wearing of the soil was not to make a living, but to bring
more money to the people even though the soil was not capable of growing a sizable amount of
crops. The point that Worster clearly makes throughout his book was that capitalism caused the
problem. He believed the two linked disasters, The Dust Bowl and The Great Depression were
entirely man made because of flaws in American society. Worster could not define capitalism with
one simple meaning, but says that man viewed the land as a business. They worked the land until
they could not work it anymore, and even then, they continued to plow the fields trying to get
every last grain that would provide them with more money. Worster wrote that man had a right to

Hello Numi,
I am doing well Numi!! I am alright musically to be honest lol, I have been producing well
making beats since the sixth grade, but became really a music producer in like the 10 grade. I
listen to tons of variety of old music daily, study the greats, so I am always working on my craft. I
cannot play the piano like you by any means. I just know how to put things together and know what

The Reality Of The American Dream
Since its boom in popularity, society has confined the American Dream to the ideals of a spouse, a
few children, a steady job in a progressive field, a nice house with a white picket fence, and the
shiniest Studebaker on the block. Coming out of world wars, the American Dream faced its most
significant height of desirability as commanders wanted to provide all the creature comforts
necessary to returning soldiers. Some, to this day, argue that the American Dreamis an unattainable
or perhaps misplaced perception of reality because they have not reached it or have
misinformation. To achieve this ideal or status, according to others, one must simply work hard for
it. The Dream forever changes alongside society. In fact, it lives on today in a completely different
configuration. It can take on other forms because the American Dream simply reinforces the idea
that each person should have an opportunity to pursue their own idea of happiness. Many have
come to grips with the notion that the American Dream only exists in a fantasy land, completely
impossible to reach or even fathom especially without emerging from a higher class. On the
contrary, socioeconomic status has no power overreaching the Dream.One unshakable truth lies
within the American Dream: it involves none superficial characteristics that people fawned over
after World War II, nor any of the things people fawn over today. Rather, the dream holds no
