Criminalization Of Cannabis In Canada
In Canada, cannabis use became illegal in 1923 after the Act to Prohibit the
Improper Use of Opium and other Drugs added cannabis to the list of illicit
substances. Cannabis then became an illegal substance under the same category of
harder drugs such as cocaine and heroin, despite lack of scientific or criminal
correlations to suggest such categorization (CAMH, 2014). An increase in illicit drug
use in the 1960 s and 1970 s was met by greatly increased criminalization and the
associated individual and social costs. The strain on the courts, and the rising
numbers of otherwise law abiding youth being sentenced for recreational use of
cannabiscreated pressures for the liberalization of Canada s drug laws. As a result,

In R. v. Readhead (2008), the accused was charged with the possession of
marijuana and possession of marijuana for the purpose of trafficking and was
sentenced to a term of imprisonment of two and one half years. Readhead argued
that the sentencing judge erred in his decision and asked for a fairer sentence. The
British Columbia Court of Appeal stated that the sentence prescribed by the
sentencing judge is within the proper scope of his judgment but still reduced the
sentence to two years less a day. As pointed out by the British Columbia Court of
Appeal, Readhead s past experience with the law, in which he has three previous
charges for trafficking marijuana, did not deter or rehabilitate him in any way( R.
v. Readhead, 2008). In R. v. Evers (2011), the accused was charged with the
offences of unlawfully producing a controlled substance and possessing this
substance for the purposes of trafficking. However, despite Evers s lack of remorse
for producing marijuana and her explicitly stating that she intended to continue her
grow operation, the trial judge did not impose any jail time. The trial judge stated
that there was no point in imprisoning Evers as doing so would only make her a
martyr for the legalization of marijuana (R. v. Evers, 2011). Both of these cases
My First Child By Anne Smith Essay
Your name is Anne Smith. You are 35 years old and live in San Diego, CA with
your husband. You are happily married and are expecting your first child. While he
is at work you decide to go shopping for a baby stroller. The year is 1990 and online
shopping doesn t even exist yet. You get in your car and drive to your local
specialized baby store. You are looking for a stroller that is durable yet one that
can be easily stored away. You find a stroller you like but are hesitant in buying it
because the price is a little much. You leave the store without purchasing the
stroller and drive to the next store where you find a bit cheaper stroller, but you
don t purchase it in hopes of finding a stroller that is a bit more durable. After hours
of driving around (since there are no GPS or google maps) and shoppingyou finally
find a stroller that you love and purchase it.
Now fast forward twenty six years later picture yourself as Anne Smith trying to
buy a baby stroller. If you were to just google search baby strollers you would have
about 21,300,000 results at your fingertips. Within seconds you are given hundreds
upon hundreds of thousands of search results to choose from. The internet has made

Blood On The Leaves Interpretation
Kanye West has proven himself over time that he is much more than just a
producer. With each new album he releases, he constantly pushes the boundaries of
music influencing artist across all genres. Kanye has an ever evolving sound that
changes almost year to year. Kanye West s Yeezus album is an album that takes a
much darker and more minimalist turn in his discography. This approach to music
makes Yeezus a much harder album to listen through because it is not filled with
nice, polished sounds. Having the album made this way makes us look over what
the message of a song and the album are. Among many rough songs one the most
popular on the album was Blood on the Leaves. Blood on the Leaves samples from
another song called Strange Fruitsung by Nina Simonewhich is a very political song
talking about gruesome lynchings that happened before and at the turn of the century.
With help from the sample, West uses the pain of lynching and drug abuse to
compare with the break ups he goes through.
The instrumental of the song starts off very slow at the beginning we can hear a piano
in the background that slowly begins to play. Over this soft piano sound we hear
Nina Simone break through. She sets us up with an interesting imagery of strange
fruit hanging. But she doesn t get to the part that they are bodies just yet. The listener
is confused by exactly what she means by the meaning of strange fruit since there is
no context of what she is referencing inside of the song. Almost

A Vermont high school librarian is forced to resign because she fought the school

An Indiana school board takes action that leads to the burning of many copies of a

The courts have time and again ruled that the Constitution prohibits
Congress from censorship of any form.
These two opposing sides have butted heads again and again leaving behind
landmark cases for future legal actions. One of the most famous of those cases was
Pico vs. Board of Education, Island Trees Union Free School District No. 26, which
was the first school library censorship case to reach the Supreme Court (Jones 35). In
March
1976, the Island Trees School Board in New York removed eleven books that they
deemed quot;anti American, anti Christian, anti Semitic, and just plain filthy quot;
(Berger 59) from the high school library shelves. Among these books were
Slaughterhouse Five by
Kurt Vonnegut, A Hero Ain t Nothing but a Sandwich by Alice Childress, and Soul
on Ice by Eldridge Cleaver (Jones 37). The board felt that it had quot;a moral
obligation to protect the children in our schools from this moral danger quot; (Berger
60). Five students then sued the school board on grounds that their decision violated
their First Amendment rights.
The suit was passed around the courts until June 1982 when the Supreme Court took
up the cause and ruled that the school board would have to defend its removal of the
books.
The Supreme Court decided that since the library is used voluntarily, they can choose
books there freely and that, as Justice Brennan stated, quot;the First Amendment

Customer Service At The Real Estate Industry Essay
1.Introduction
Internet is an important component in the development of real estate, and plays a
key role in fierce on line real estate sites competition. The concepts of customer
service are central to the success of on line real estate companies. Existing research
recognizes the critical role played by customer service. Customer service in the real
estate business is evolutionary, rather than revolutionary. One step forward is the
simple realization that your current customers are potential gold plated, low cost
ambassadors the bottom line lifeblood of your company. [Kathleen McKenna
Harmon, 2002] Surveys such as that conducted by Penny Patterson (2009) placed
that Customer service at the center of the business and said: The needs of our
customers were, and still are, paramount. Therefore, I think customer service is also
at the heart of on line real estate sites. On line real estate services become a trend, as
buyers can get listings based on the criteria they set with online computer real estate
services. [Kerwin, Ann Marie
,1992] The main challenge faced by on line real
estate companies is about how to gain customers through fierce websites information
competition, I would like to add great importance to combining on line and off line
customer service together to increase the trading numbers.
My main reason for choosing this topic is personal interest. It is my experience of
working in real estate companies that has driven this research. It is not easy for a

AESOP AND ITS HISTORY
Aesop was established in Melbourne in 1987 with a quest to create a range of
superlative products for the skin, hair and body. The company is committed to using
both plant based and laboratory made ingredients of the highest quality and proven
efficacy particularly those with the greatest anti oxidant properties.
The company was started by a hairdresser Dennis Paphitis who used to work in a
salon. Product wise he started adding essential oils to the commercial hair color, as
the smell of ammonia is quiet overwhelming his clients responded well to these less
aggressive aromas. He then took this up as a passion and started understanding these
ingredients and started working with a chemist on a small range of hair products.
Eventually the hair product extended to a hand and body product category and finally
skin care.
Dennis felt this was an opportunity that was approaching his way. Finally in 1996 he
quit the salon and began his extensive research and development in the field of
cosmetics. He felt that the marketing of his product was limited just to the salon.
The next few years he along with the chemist intensely spent time setting up a
foundation for a product line and development. All this was done
The Major Empires Of West Africa From 1200-1500
1) What were the major empires of West Africa from 1200 1500? What were their
major industries, modes of social organization? What were their standards of living
and lifespans compared to Europe?
The Mali empire was established in 1235. It was the largest and the richest empire in
the African Middle Ages. During this time Malian emperors relied on a small central
administration, which was primarily concerned with finances and justice. (Patterns of
World History pg. 400) The empire financed itself through tributes and taxes, but their
main source of income relied on trade. The Mali would often trade long distance
through merchants and scholars. In Timbuktu, the Mali would produce or mine for
salt, creating a Salt Trade Hub in Timbuktu. Timbuktu was also important because it
was one of the most important scholarly cities in the world that held massive libraries.
Mansa Musa the Malian ruler who annexed Timbuktu. He wanted to share his
wealth with his people, so he founded a college, a library, and part of Sankore
Mosque. Mansa Musa lived a very lavish and luxurious life and tried to share that
life with his people. This actually put in the gold markets in relapse because he put
too much gold into circulation, but it influenced Malians to become scholars and at a
higher standard of living.
The Great Zimbabwe was a kingdom that was established in 1250. This kingdom was
a culmination of various southern African kingdoms. While most settlements within
the kingdom were dedicated to

In David and Goliath written by Malcom Gladwell is based on the unlikely victory

Children who realized that succeed needs the consist drive of motivation as well

adapt to all future situations, The helpless ones believe that intelligence is a fixed
trait: you have only a certain amount, and that s that. I call this a fixed mind set.
Mistakes crack their self confidence because they attribute errors to a lack of
ability, which they feel powerless to change. They avoid challenges because
challenges make mistakes more likely and looking smart less so. Like Jonathan,
such children shun effort in the belief that having to work hard means they are dumb

create almost artificial intelligence that help crushing failures instead of praising the
hard work that led to success.
We presume in times of hardships will we simply give up but this is not for the
case for some individuals who have personal faced eras of revolutions and wars
pushed through all the chaos just to continue living not only for themselves as well
as for others. As the British were facing the Blitz the government enforce a
Similarities Between Equality And Inequality
The social issue of equality and inequality, has dated back to the beginning of time.
Although there is no way to find out, would one really think that cavemen would not
fight about who got the most food? Even children would argue if someone else has
more crayons, or more toys. Everyone has demanded equalityat least once in their
lifetime. Unfortunately inequalityoccurs more often than equality, and this will never
change. Race, sex, and religion are the three main points that occur most often in
today s society. If someone were to turn on the news, they would more than likely
see global issues on race, sex, religion, and their fight for equality. I will be
discussing the similarities and differences of equality and inequality through race,
sex, and religion.
When someone thinks about the similarities of equality and inequality in a social
setting, they might think that there are none. In fact, there are many similarities, and
the main one is humans. Humans either have equality, or they do not have it, and
want it. Usually people have more courage in a group, rather than alone. This is also
a similarity with equality and inequality. It is often groups that rightfully raise the
issue of an inequality between themselves and the rest of society (Gosepath). The
rest of society that Gosepath is referring to, is people who have equality, which
connects equality and inequality. The first similarity of equality and inequality is
race. Both sides deal with all kinds of people

Driving And Drinking And Driving
There are already laws in effect that are not being utilized as well as they could be.
Sobriety checkpoints are effective, but only when they are used. There are also
interlock systems that can be installed in a vehicle when a person has been drinking
and driving. However, not every person that is caught drinking and drivingis required
to have this system installed in their vehicle. There is also an idea that if you are
involved in an accident the policeman on the scene can ask to see your phone and
if there is proof that you were on your phone at the time of the accident you will be
at fault. Ralph Hingson, director of the Division of Epidemiology and Prevention
Research at the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse states, Meanwhile, some
valuable tools are not being used. Sobriety checkpoints and effective in reducing
drinking and driving if they are publicized, so they can serve as a deterrent, says
Hingson (Kinnerly par 19).
If the legal driving age was raised, seatbelt laws were made the priority, speed limits
were lowered, safety features were mandatory in all vehicles, and laws were
enforced there would be fewer accidents. If these ideas were put into action,
imagine what the fatality rates would look like if the leading causes of fatal
accidents were fixed or changed. We could fix what self driving cars claim they will
fix without the self driving car its self, making the need for these cars unnecessary.
It has been proven that self driving cars will have

SOME INVESTIGATIONS ON THE CORROSION OF IRON
I.
Introduction
Metals undergo natural destruction that allows a spontaneous deteriorating reaction
where they return to their original state from where they are obtained upon contact
with the surrounding, particularly when reacted to oxygen. Such phenomenon is
known as corrosion (Zumdahl, 1998). This leads the surface of the materials to rust
in due time. Usually, this kind of process is electrochemical but is sometimes
accompanied by mechanical and physical stress that causes the metal to corrode
(Heitz et al, 1992).

Discussion
Metals have become one of the most in demand raw materials man has ever used.
Cars, buildings, bridges, and such a like were built through this kind of resources
which contributes to the progress and development of a community.
However, a great consequence on the economic status is incorporated in this
phenomenon. Since metals undergo corrosion that may result to its inefficiency and
inadequateness, billions of dollars are spent just to prevent its occurrence.
It was observed that there are different factors that contribute to the deterioration of
metal, specifically on iron which is widely used in different industrial establishments.
These are the acidity and basicity of solution where the metal will be immersed or be
in contact with, mechanical

Development Of Modernism After World War II
After the Second World War, attention immediately turned towards reconstructing a
better world. Like the earlier world war, it destroyed a previous social and economic
order (Curtis, 1996). Many of tall buildings were built to meet the large number of
human requirements. Modernism was rapidly developed at that time. This essay aims
to explore the development of modernism after World War II by compare and contrast
the two apartments which are Hansaviertel Apartmentin German and Society Hill
Towers in the USA. It first discusses the similarity of the two chosen buildings. Then
explains the difference of design, which includes surroundings, building form and the
apartment layout. Furthermore, explore the factors lead to those difference which are
policy, the influence of the other architects and architects own belief.
As cities were destroyed during the war, there were increasing needs of buildings
especially the apartments and houses. These two chosen projects have the same
functions as apartments. They were both high rise buildings, which were built as a
part of the redevelopment of the city after the war. The Hansaviertel Apartment was
built in 1957, Berlin, Germany and designed by Alar Aalto. The other one is named
Society Hill Towers in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. I.M Pei is the designer for this
apartment. The two apartments were built at the same time but contrast greatly in
term of design, which can represent the several kinds of development of modernism
after the
The Victorian Era
Throughout history, cultures and societies across the globe have used monsters or
any sort of creature to exemplify anxieties and fears that they have. The same can be
said for works of literature and art. These authors use these anxieties, personify them,
and use them to exaggerate the fears of the readers. In short, the monsters/creatures
that are created in each literary era depict and personify the biggest fears and
viewpoints of the society that it was written in. In the case of the Victorian/Romantic
era in British Literature, many authors discuss the many different feelings about
science and the role of women at the time. Both the Romantic and Victorian eras of
English history were product of the scientific developments that occurred during these
periods of history. The Romantic era was the response that artists, authors, and
society in general had from the Age of Reason (or Enlightenment), where the major
philosophers and scientists of the day believed that humans could change through
rational ways of thinking. These Romantic writers chose the supernatural or miracles
over the scientific method as well as passion over reason. Similarly, the Victorian era
was marked by major discoveries and writings such as Charles Lyell s Principles of
Geology and Charles Darwins Origin of Species and The Decent of Man . These
works terrified the growing Evangelical movement because they were frightened at
the notion of the human species sharing an ancestor with primates,

INTRODUCTION
Nowadays, we talk much about high performance concrete. It has higher strength,
better durability and elasticity. Although high strength concrete is often considered as
relatively new material, its development has been gradually taking place over many
years.
In the discussion of high performance concrete role played by FRC is vital. FRC is
defined as a composite material which consists of conventional concrete reinforced
by randomly dispersed short length fibres of specific geometry, made up of steel,
synthetic material or natural fibres. The fibres are distributed evenly throughout the
mix without balling or clustering. The randomly oriented fibres help to bridge and
arrest the cracks. As such, crack widening is gradual as compared to plain concrete.
This leads to better

Hard To Pay For College Essay
Nowadays it s hard to get a degree and even harder to pay for. In the article How to
Pay for College , it says that with hard work students can earn scholarships, apply
for financial aid, finance loans, and take on a part time job to pay for college.
However, there is plenty of evidence proving otherwise. Due to the rising costs of
tuition and the restrictions to getting financial aid, it is almost impossible for lower
and middle class citizens to afford college. Loans leave students in debtand
scholarships are not always a sure thing. With a part time job, putting in too many
hours of work can interfere with ones sleep and actual study time. Recently a study
was done on the average college students ability to pay for college with a part time
job. Randy Olsen, a computer science graduate research assisstant at Michigan
State University, crunched the numbers for both Michigan State and all public
universities in the U.S. The average tuition cost at an in state public university is
$8,709 not including room and board, books and supplies, personal care, and
transportaton fees. Research shows that the amount of hours needed to work to pay
for college tuition with a part time minimum wage job has more than tripled since
the year 1979. It is now a lot harder to work your way through college than it was 37
years ago. Many people in America miss the chance at pursuing a higher education.
This is not because they lack talent or they do not try hard enough. Their parents

The Judicial System Of The Court System
In today s society, the United States court system has a very strict order due to the
fact that rules and regulations used to not be as exclusive as they are now. One of
the various steps in the court system is that of the preliminary hearing and the grand
jury. There are three main issues that are incorporated in the preliminary hearings
which include, when it is required, the appropriate standard to determine if the
prosecution has a case, and the procedural rights included at the hearing (Whitebread
and Slobogin, 2008, p. 623). The court system is made up of various aspects of
different regulations but one of the key components is that of the grand jury. The
grand jurycontinuously changes, but as of now relies more on the prosecutor than it
has in the past.
The preliminary hearing is an important part of the judicial system but under the
federal constitution and various state laws, it is not required by the constitution. The
defendant also has the right to counsel under the sixth amendment. Under the
preliminary hearing statue, the prosecutor may show probable cause to arrest and the
evidence can also be admissible at trial. The preliminary hearing typically takes place
after the initial appearance, the Gerstein determination, and the bail hearing. In the
preliminary hearing, the judge can also decide if there is enough evidence to send the
defendant to trail. In Lem Woon v. Oregon (1913), the court refused to apply the Fifth
Amendment s obligation that only serious
Factors Of Imperialism In Africa
There were many factors that contributed to imperialism in Africa. Imperialism is
when a nation plans to dominate or take over another but in political, economic, or
social ways. The Europeans were trying to dominate Africa and there were many
factors that played a role in this. One of the major advantages that the Europeans
had was their technological advancements. They were usually the first people to
acquire new items that were more advanced. One of these items was the Maxim
gun. It was the worlds first automatic machine gun and it was created in 1884. As
the Europeans got ahold of this new weapon, the Africans were forced to use the
outdated weapons. The steam engine was another advancement that the
Europeans had. It allowed them to travel on the rivers in order to create bases of
control in Africa. They did this because they wanted to take control over their
empire. Steam engines weren t the only thing helping people communicate with
close nations. Railroads, cables, and steamships all allowed the nations to talk
with each other. There was a major problem as time went on. Malaria started to
take over Africa. Malaria is a disease that is carried by swarms of mosquitoes. The
problem kept the Europeans on the coast and prevented them from going too deep
into Africa. Of course there was another factor that allowed them to travel into
Africa. That was the perfection of the drug quinine in 1824. The factors in Africa
made it easier for the Europeans to colonize it. Africa had such a diverse
community that it made it hard for them to unite. All the different languages and
cultures were the problem. The Europeans learned to play rivals groups against
each other for their benefit. These ethnic groups fought wars which were caused
by control over land, water, and trade rights. Since the groups already disliked each
other then why not create more tension between them in order to help yourself?
That s exactly what the Europeans did and it was a very good idea. These were
just a couple of factors that played a role to imperialism in Africa. Africans weren t
buying a lot of the Europeans goods. The Europeans were trying to find a way that
they could divide Africa without causing a war between each other.
Animal Farm Power Corrupts Absolute Power
Corrupted by Power Power corrupts, absolute power corrupts absolutely . This
quote relates to George Orwell s allegorical novella, Animal Farm, because
throughout the novella, Napoleon, one of the pigs, uses his advantage of
intelligence as a way to manipulate the other animals into believing everything he
told them. Although Napoleon changes quite a number of things on the farm, the
changes are incremental and small so that he makes it appear that there was no
changes at all. As Napoleon s power increases, he is not yet satisfied with the
amount of power he is able to obtain yet. Napoleon sets high standards for himself to
have complete power over every single animal, though he becomes corrupt because
he gains absolute power over everyone on the farm.... Show more content on

Napoleon uses his intelligence as a way to manipulate the other animals who don t

while the rest are working hard and not get the fair share they deserve. Napoleon as

Essay on Manhattan Project
Thesis: The research for the first Atomic bomb was done in the United States, by a
group of the best scientists; this research was given the name of amp;quot; The
Manhattan Project amp;quot;. On Monday July 16th, 1945, a countdown for the
detonation of the first atomic bomb took place near Los Alamos, New Mexico. This
atomic bomb testing would forever change the meaning of war. As the atomic bomb
was detonated it sent shock waves all over the world. There was endless research
done on the bomb in the United States. The research was called amp;quot; The

project was Enrico Fermi. Fermi was a graduate of the University of Pisa, where he
received his Ph.D. Fermi then went to the University of Rome teaching chemistry
and biology. Fermi played a major role in the development of the bomb by creating a
sustained nuclear fission chain reaction, which was critical to making the atomic
bomb.4 Richard Feyman was another scientist which worked on the atomic bomb.
Feyman graduated from Princeton where he excelled in physics and other
scientific studies. Feyman s big duty on the Manhattan Project was to break big
problems into smaller easier to do problems.4 The Manhattan Project, also had to
have facilities for the research and testing of the atomic bomb. Some of the
facilities built by U.S. Army Corps of Engineers included: power stations, factories,
steel works, hospitals, laboratories, and housing for everybody that worked on the
project.. Other facilities that were built for the construction of the bomb were plants
to make the radioactive material needed to construct the bomb. Oak Ridge,
Tennessee was used to make uranium which was used as an explosive to react with
plutonium. The plutonium itself was made in Hanford, Washington.5 To make this
explosion possible, a piece of uranium was fired at another piece of uranium to make
the critical mass that was needed for an explosion. Critical mass is the exact amount

in our learning calligraphy. We should draw each stroke and focus on drawing a
perfect stroke. We will be amazed at how this small paradigm shift makes a huge
difference in our calligraphy.
Step #5: Correcting our Errors and Perfecting our Craft
We got our basics, we know how to form letters, and we are practicing hard.
Can we now create beautiful calligraphy pieces or crafts worthy of being gifts?
Possible, but probably not yet.
We need to get to the last step which is learning to detect and correct the errors in our
calligraphy.
This is the part where we learn to become an independent calligraphy that is
perfectly capable of coaching self only. We know exactly what a beautiful calligraphy
piece is like and how to create it ourselves.
In the course of learning calligraphy, we will make mistakes. How fast we are going
to learn calligraphy will depend on how fast we can detect these mistakes. Many
beginners waste lots of time and effort practicing without knowing that they are doing

Why Was The Incas Successful
The Incas ruled a large portion of South America for just shy of one hundred years,
from 1438 until 1532. There are two main reasons why the Incas were successful.
Although they were successful rulers, they were not prepared for the European
invaders. The farming methods the Incas implemented at the time were revolutionary.
They grew their crops are in a controlled climate. The method they used was a
circular design in which the circles would get deeper. The deeper the circle, the cooler
the crops. The highest circle was the warmest. The idea was climate controlled crops
via the sun. Which means that once the sun set, the crops still retained the warmth of
the sun allowing them to continue to grow. The Incas implemented thIs method on
Concert Tickets Shouldn T Be So Freaking Expensive
Summary
In the article Concert Tickets Shouldn t Be So Freaking Expensive, Elissa Sanci
discusses her love for concerts and music but she argues that tickets have become
too expensive. Sanci goes on to attack the artists themselves claiming that they are
being too greedy and they need to cut ticket prices by half, she believes that the fans
should be treated better, since we are the ones that support the artists and not made
to slave away working to be able to attend concerts . In the end of the essay she goes
on to say that no matter how expensive the concerttickets are she will continue to
pay for them, even if it ends up coming to her having to sell an organ. The author
doesn t do a very good job arguing for cheaper pricetickets, instead she contradicts
herself making the argument seem weak. Sanci tries to fight the cost of high prices
in today s ticket prices. She goes on to explain her love for concerts, but hate for
high prices. Now that the prices are up less people attend and those that do attend
have to waste big amounts of money. She proposes a solution to cut ticket prices

Conclusion Of A Utopia
Every modern architects is trying to achieve a dream they have never been
perfectly successful society a Utopia. The word utopia first described as fictional
island society in Sir Thomas More s book Utopia in 1516 as perfect community with
a visionary system of political and society cities that function to improve man s daily
lives and free from problems. This imagination citycan never exist. Yet, the concept
of utopiahas influenced to the arts, especially architects. In the early 20th century, the

urban according to their function and purpose. Residential and commercial were
always separated by zoning. Mostly these two zone is separated by district or

and functional on their own purpose. This is also what a Utopia aim to be. Function
is more important than everything.

United States Border Patrol
After analyzing many topics I am more anti immigration than pro. My policy to stop
immigration is to hire more agents to enforce immigration laws at the border.
Currently the US has a minimal amount of agents at the border. With minimal
amounts, the border patrol is missing huge amounts of illegal immigrants which
jeopardizes the US security. Increasing our agents at the border would help reduce
the drastic number of illegal immigrants entering the United States each year. With
less illegal immigrants the US will be able to do more thurow screenings of crime
or terrorism with the new numbers of hired agents. With my policy I will enforce a
skills screening process too. This will evaluate immigrants on how they can help the

With restrictions on US benefits for illegal immigrants enforcing the ballot will
force illegal immigrants to leave, come back, and apply for citizenship because they
will not receive the benefits they need. I believe this is a harsh policy but is needed
because the expenses to support these services for everyone is costly. Second, I
believe The Minuteman Project would be a helpful asset to the border patrol. With
the proper training and education this organization could be successful in aiding the
enforcement of immigration. However, having the military help the border patrol is
a bad idea because of their strong relationship with weapons. I believe that if we
bring the military to the border it will cause more harm than good. The military will
create fear and violence at the border which could cause many conflicts if
enforcement is not done properly.
My view on Amendment 14 is indifferent. I believe that if your parent is not a
documented citizen in the US you should not be able to become a US citizen even
if you are born in the country. However, if your parent is a citizen and they have a
child the child will be able to continue to live in the US. This covers the conflict
with Anchor Babies too. Using this policy illegal immigrants will no longer be able

The Story Of Greek Myth
When the gods were pondering how to win the amrita, the elixir of immortally,
Vishnu suggested that they let the Devas and Asuras churn the ocean so that the
elixir, along with all the herms and jewels, would emerge. They unrooted Mount
Mandara and set it on the back of a tortoise and used Vasuki, the snake, as the rope.
Taking each side of the rope, the Asuras and Devas began twirling Mount Madara.
The friction of the churning caused fire, which Indra put out using water from his
clouds. Finally, the sap of all the plants flowed into the ocean, which turned to milk,
then to butter, ultimately resulting in the divine physician Dhanvantari to bear the
elixir. The Asuras surrendered the elixir to Vishnu, but he gave it to the Devas. Rahu

This explains why the moon disappears and reappears. The Asuras were enraged
and offered battle, but the gods were victorious and put Mount Mandara back in its
proper place. What I personally find unique in this story is that these powerful
gods used a plan to trick others, who were less powerful than them, to churn the
ocean for them. I also find it unique that they wanted the elixir of immortality when
they are already gods and are immortal. I think it s very common in myths for
someone to always be on the search for immortality and/or gaining god like
abilities. This would make it a very popular story because even in today s world,
whether it s for science or cosmetic purposes, people are always looking for the

Brand identity and brand image are two distinct yet interrelated dimensions of brand
building. Brand identity entails the strategic efforts of firms to assign a brand with
unique characteristics in a bid to achieve positive perceptions by target consumers
(Nandan, 2005).
The ingredients of a brand are the product itself, the packaging, the brand name, the
promotion, the advertising and the overall presentation. The brand owner assembles
these attributes and blends them in a unique way.
A key to enhancing the equity of a brand is the selection of an appropriate branding
strategy. Laforet and Saunders (1999) define branding strategy as the way
companies mix and match their corporate, house, family and individual brand types
for their products or services. This mix and match of brand types generates a variety
of options for the companies from which they can select a suitable branding strategy
for a product/ service. Furthermore, McDonald et al. (2001) assert that an appropriate
branding strategy is crucial as it would reinforce the desired positioning and hence
influence purchase behaviour. Unfortunately, even the best brand managers have
struggled to choose the most appropriate branding strategy, in part, due to a lack of
academic clarity and
Analysis Of `` Fences `` By August Wilson
A family by definition is any group of individuals living together under a common
roof. However, it does happen that sometimes a certain member of the family
decides to forget what it means to be part of a family. August Wilson s Fences
portrays extremely well what happens when a member of the family decides to forget
his or her duties. The use of metaphors and symbols throughout the playsuch as
baseball and fences, illustrate exactly why Troy Maxson as a family man was
destined for disappointment. Rose, Troy s wife in the playwas the obvious voice of
reason between the two; all she wanted was an interrupted happy family life. The
fences that she put up were not physical fences but rather emotional and
psychological ones used to keep her family in line. These fences were made very
clear to both the reader and the other characters in the play. For example when
Bono (Troy s best friend) is questioning Troy s commitment to Rose he said, Some
people build fences to keep people out... and others build fences to keep people in.
Rose wants to hold on to you all. She loves you. (898). This excerpt perfectly
described the different values shared between Rose and Troy but is also a common
generalization of gender roles in most family. The only fence Rose ever set up for
Troy was one of loyalty and commitment. She believed in the strength in numbers
whilst Troy strongly believed in the power of individuality. Troy on the other hand
had a completely different approach when it
Muscle Torque Essay
Muscle torque is beneficial when multi joint movement (throwing) taken place with
accordance to Central Nervous System, Interaction torque, and the muscles involving
when torque occurred. Torque in multijoint limb movements doesn t only occur from
muscles acting at a specific joint, but from interactions due to the rotations of other
joints (Hollerbach and FLash, 1982). In this case, it supports Bernstein s idea that
muscletorque at the two joints was not necessary related to each other to produce
coordinated joint movement (Turvey 1990). The muscle torque (MT) is a
measurement of action muscle torque to rotate the joint (Marconi 2008). Moreover,
the interaction torque (IT) is one of the self generated load that is generated by the

Shoulder deceleration before ball release is not produced by active shoulder
antagonist MT, but it is influenced by IT from elbow extension (Hore, 2010). As a
result, MT is predominantly driven by elbow extensor MT (Hore, 2010).
In a similar study, the Central Nervous System (CNS) is required to generate motor
commands by taking net torque, muscle torque, interaction torque, gravitational
torque into consideration to execute multi joint movement (Hirashima 2003).
Throwers were examined by instructing them to throw balls of different weights and
diameter and it was predicted that back forces would adjust the finger grip force in
accordance to the amplitude and finger extension (Harashima, 2003). As a result, the
CNS of the skilled ball throwers could predict for back forces caused by the hand
acceleration (Hirashima, 2003).
In contrary, CNS is only examined through quick movement because of the belief that
IT is acquired on speed (Yamasaki, 2008). Another research opposing the study
mentioned that CNS is unknown in dealing with the IT when adjusting the movement
speed in ball throwing movements (Hirashima, 2003). In conclusion, the central
nervous system generates agonist and antagonist resulting in multi joint movements

Second World War Alliances
Though the Second World War consisted of many participating countries all linked
via a variety of alliances, pacts and treaties. Theses alliances are not the type of you
would think of in the common sense. Though these alliances were presumably and
originally initiated with goal of both parties mutually benefitting from winning or
preventing a war, this would slowly change has the war progress. Countries that had
made alliances with each other would lead to not complete mutual support but using
the each other for their own agendas. This would be true for both the Allied Powers
and the Axis Powers. Though there are many facets that led to the beginning of the

the British Empire. After a few encounters with Britain in Libya and becoming low

commences Operation Sonnenblume or Operation Sunflower, sending the Deustsche

lead the Italians from defensive to offensive, the outcome unfortunately leads to Italy
s unsuccessful attempt at North Africa subjugating Italy under Nazi Germany and its
agenda. It can be said that the nature of the German Italian alliance in North African
campaign was one of only self interest and opportunity not of anticipating mutual

which provides sales training and markets Straight Line training programs aimed at
building wealth. Belfort claims to have straightened up his act. In an interview with
the Daily Mail, he explained, I m a wolf who became a more benevolent character.
Belfort has reportedly paid $14 million of the $110 million fine against him.

a newspaper round where he was knocking on people s door and making money

Literary Devices Used in Albert Camus The Plague
A book of horrors, fear and death. The Plague is a book by Albert Camus which
weaves these emotions and events into one suspenseful tale. Each paragraph and
section is written and structured in such a way as to give the reader insight into the
feelings of the victims of the plague, and to show somewhat of a theme. The
passage from section 4, part 4, line number 1 to line number 35 gives us a glimpse
of the melancholy of the people of Oranto their dead loved ones to the extent that they
do not attend All Souls Day, for they were thinking of them too much as it was. Albert
Camusfills this passage with figurative devices, including, diction, personification,
pathetic fallacy, metaphors, ironyand a turning point. The first two paragraphs... Show

Diction is seen to be used greatly in conveying the suitability of the town for All
Souls Day. Pathetic Fallacy is also used to portray the message by Albert Camus.
Also, the cool wind , big clouds...trailing shadows , glossy and oiled clothing give
the impression of a cool, damp shadowy day, with clothing mimicking this,
portraying the psychology of the people of Oran when they are in melancholy for
their loved ones. However, from around the third paragraph onwards, a turning
point is seen. As previously suggested, it was a suitable time of the year for
mourning and All Souls Day, but ironically this did not occur. Albert Camus devices
and literary intelligence make it very clear that the melancholy of the town was to
the extent that All Souls Day was neglected. It is seen by a turning point, But these
familiar aspects of All Souls Day could not make us forget that the cemeteries were
left unvisited . This turning point suggests that All Souls Day did not occur as it was
previously suggested through earlier devices, mainly due to the already prevalent
grief towards the dead. Albert Camus metaphors clearly clarifies this, they (the dead)
were no longer the forsaken to whom...you came to justify yourself and they (the
dead) were intruders whom you would rather forget .Also, these metaphors give
insight to the attitude of the townspeople towards their dead, that the extended period
of thinking and grief over their dead has caused them not
Tommy John Surgery Research Paper
Turn on SportsCenter or Fox Sports during baseball season and you ll hear three
words that used to spark fear in the hearts of players, Tommy John surgery. Ulnar
collateral ligament reconstruction (UCLR) commonly known as Tommy John
surgery, is performed on both recreational and high level athletes, (Erickson,
Nwachukwu, Rosas, Schairer, McCormick, Bach Jr, Romeo, 2015). This procedure
is commonly done on pitchers, because of the excessive use of their throwing arm,
affecting the elbow. The process consists of replacing a ligament in the elbow with a
tendon from another area of the body or from cadavers. When someone has Tommy
John surgerythey are no longer able to participate in baseballfor one year. However,
with the advances in this medical procedure, it has extended the careers of
numerous pitchers, and in some cases improved their pitching. Due to the possibility
of enhanced results, a troubling trend has developed in youth baseball. Parents and
coaches are encouraging their players to go under the knife in their early teens just
so they will not have to worry about elbow issues in the future. High school players
who are perfectly healthy are having this procedure done at an alarming rate.
Analysis Of Sandra Cisneros s The House On Mango Street
Just by looking at the front cover of The House on Mango Street, one could grasp
an idea of what the novel is about and how it is presented. It is a story, decorated
with colorful detail and authenticity, of a girl adjusting to a new home and growing
up. In the introduction to the novel, Cisneros paints a picture of who she had been at
the time she had written this novel. Cisneros discusses how as a girl she always
wanted to move into a standalone house as opposed to the apartments she had been
living in throughout her early childhood. She also mentions her father s role in her
life and how they had not often seen eye to eye. Her father had never understood
why she wanted to live in a house. He also had wanted Cisneros to marry and have
babies, however, at the time she had written this novel, she had been uninterested in
that. Meanwhile, she states that she has never had a father or boyfriend beat her
when she writes about how privileged her life had been up to that point. This is all
reflected in The House on Mango Street. Sandra Cisneros writes in her own unique
voice in The House on Mango Street by using unconventional short anecdotes that
feature a cast of distinct characters to include aspects of her own life. In the beginning
of the introduction, Cisneros describes what she was like when she was a young.
Cisneros writes, As a girl, she dreamed of having a silent home, just to herself...
(Cisneros xii). This desire is reflected through Esperanza, the narrator, in the
Essay On Japan Labor Shortage Advantages And
Disadvantages
Challenges that created by country characteristics:
1.High land prices
Japan is an island country(see in figure 1), the land area is only 378,000 square
kilometers. Land is in short supply, especially in the business district in Japan. And
the price is absolutely the most prohibitive all around the world. This is one of the
major obstacles to business expansion in Japan.
Possible measures to deal with shortages include open stores dedicated to delivery,
the establishment of standard stores in lower rental areas, or the development of
more profitable shops with smaller kitchen areas.
Figure 1
2. Labor shortage and Japanese labor practices
Because of the lack of young workers from structural rather than temporal changes,
including the decline in the birth rate of Japan, labor shortages for the fast food
industry becomes a serious problem. Fast food industry mainly relies on high school
graduates and college students part time staff. Half of the full time employees,
including the managers, are college graduates.
Therefore, management must provide them with the benefits of Japanese
employment practices, such as the seniority system and the lifetime employment
system. Management must also be concerned about the increase in salary levels and
prevent them from leaving to ensure the future potential of employees. In order to
address labor shortage challenge, Kentucky Fried Chicken is attracting working
conditions by developing a new system, getting rid of dirty, dangerous, hard
Side Effects Of The Movie Shutter Island
Mental disorders can have dangerous and harmful side effects. In the movie Shutter
Island, there are many examples of a mental illness that are harmful to an individual.
There are three effects that seem more harmful and long term. First, many people
who are sleep deprived for an extended period tend to have difficulties with their
mental state. Mental illnesscan often cause an individual to react to an emotional
situation in a more violent manor. Most importantly, when one s mental state is
damaged, flashbacks and distorted memories are common. Many people who
suffer from psychological problems are often troubles with insomnia as a side
effect because sleep requires a steady mind. Shutter island is a thriller/drama
featuring Leonardo DiCaprio playing the role of a character named Teddy Daniels
who is a U.S. Marshal who suffers with severe PTSD. The beginning of the movie
really makes you question how this movie is going to take place. This is a type of
movie with several flashbacks and starts in the middle of the movie, unfolding layers
of information before finally revealing the beginning in the end. The movie leads
you to believe that Teddy and his partner come to shutter island as U.S. Marshalls to
investigate a patient that has escaped from the mental hospital on shutter island. In
order to access the island, Teddy and his partner must take the boat in. Once they get

  • 2. Criminalization Of Cannabis In Canada In Canada, cannabis use became illegal in 1923 after the Act to Prohibit the Improper Use of Opium and other Drugs added cannabis to the list of illicit substances. Cannabis then became an illegal substance under the same category of harder drugs such as cocaine and heroin, despite lack of scientific or criminal correlations to suggest such categorization (CAMH, 2014). An increase in illicit drug use in the 1960 s and 1970 s was met by greatly increased criminalization and the associated individual and social costs. The strain on the courts, and the rising numbers of otherwise law abiding youth being sentenced for recreational use of cannabiscreated pressures for the liberalization of Canada s drug laws. As a result, the Commission of Inquiry... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In R. v. Readhead (2008), the accused was charged with the possession of marijuana and possession of marijuana for the purpose of trafficking and was sentenced to a term of imprisonment of two and one half years. Readhead argued that the sentencing judge erred in his decision and asked for a fairer sentence. The British Columbia Court of Appeal stated that the sentence prescribed by the sentencing judge is within the proper scope of his judgment but still reduced the sentence to two years less a day. As pointed out by the British Columbia Court of Appeal, Readhead s past experience with the law, in which he has three previous charges for trafficking marijuana, did not deter or rehabilitate him in any way( R. v. Readhead, 2008). In R. v. Evers (2011), the accused was charged with the offences of unlawfully producing a controlled substance and possessing this substance for the purposes of trafficking. However, despite Evers s lack of remorse for producing marijuana and her explicitly stating that she intended to continue her grow operation, the trial judge did not impose any jail time. The trial judge stated that there was no point in imprisoning Evers as doing so would only make her a martyr for the legalization of marijuana (R. v. Evers, 2011). Both of these cases

  • 4. Blood On The Leaves Interpretation Kanye West has proven himself over time that he is much more than just a producer. With each new album he releases, he constantly pushes the boundaries of music influencing artist across all genres. Kanye has an ever evolving sound that changes almost year to year. Kanye West s Yeezus album is an album that takes a much darker and more minimalist turn in his discography. This approach to music makes Yeezus a much harder album to listen through because it is not filled with nice, polished sounds. Having the album made this way makes us look over what the message of a song and the album are. Among many rough songs one the most popular on the album was Blood on the Leaves. Blood on the Leaves samples from another song called Strange Fruitsung by Nina Simonewhich is a very political song talking about gruesome lynchings that happened before and at the turn of the century. With help from the sample, West uses the pain of lynching and drug abuse to compare with the break ups he goes through. The instrumental of the song starts off very slow at the beginning we can hear a piano in the background that slowly begins to play. Over this soft piano sound we hear Nina Simone break through. She sets us up with an interesting imagery of strange fruit hanging. But she doesn t get to the part that they are bodies just yet. The listener is confused by exactly what she means by the meaning of strange fruit since there is no context of what she is referencing inside of the song. Almost

  • 6. Censorship in Public Schools Essay because he thinks they might contain quot;obscenities or offensive sexual references quot; (Berger 59). A Vermont high school librarian is forced to resign because she fought the school board s decision to remove Richard Price s The Wanderers, and to quot;restrict quot; the use of Stephen King s Carrie and Patrick Mann s Dog Day Afternoon (Jones 33). An Indiana school board takes action that leads to the burning of many copies of a textbook that deals with drugs and the sexual behavior of teenagers (Berger 61). These cases of censorship in public schools are not unusual and there is evidence that such challenges are increasing (Woods 2). These challenges are actually typical of the ones being leveled against school libraries today. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The courts have time and again ruled that the Constitution prohibits Congress from censorship of any form. These two opposing sides have butted heads again and again leaving behind landmark cases for future legal actions. One of the most famous of those cases was Pico vs. Board of Education, Island Trees Union Free School District No. 26, which was the first school library censorship case to reach the Supreme Court (Jones 35). In March 1976, the Island Trees School Board in New York removed eleven books that they deemed quot;anti American, anti Christian, anti Semitic, and just plain filthy quot; (Berger 59) from the high school library shelves. Among these books were Slaughterhouse Five by Kurt Vonnegut, A Hero Ain t Nothing but a Sandwich by Alice Childress, and Soul on Ice by Eldridge Cleaver (Jones 37). The board felt that it had quot;a moral obligation to protect the children in our schools from this moral danger quot; (Berger 60). Five students then sued the school board on grounds that their decision violated their First Amendment rights. The suit was passed around the courts until June 1982 when the Supreme Court took up the cause and ruled that the school board would have to defend its removal of the books. The Supreme Court decided that since the library is used voluntarily, they can choose books there freely and that, as Justice Brennan stated, quot;the First Amendment rights of students may be directly and sharply

  • 9. Customer Service At The Real Estate Industry Essay 1.Introduction Internet is an important component in the development of real estate, and plays a key role in fierce on line real estate sites competition. The concepts of customer service are central to the success of on line real estate companies. Existing research recognizes the critical role played by customer service. Customer service in the real estate business is evolutionary, rather than revolutionary. One step forward is the simple realization that your current customers are potential gold plated, low cost ambassadors the bottom line lifeblood of your company. [Kathleen McKenna Harmon, 2002] Surveys such as that conducted by Penny Patterson (2009) placed that Customer service at the center of the business and said: The needs of our customers were, and still are, paramount. Therefore, I think customer service is also at the heart of on line real estate sites. On line real estate services become a trend, as buyers can get listings based on the criteria they set with online computer real estate services. [Kerwin, Ann Marie
,1992] The main challenge faced by on line real estate companies is about how to gain customers through fierce websites information competition, I would like to add great importance to combining on line and off line customer service together to increase the trading numbers. My main reason for choosing this topic is personal interest. It is my experience of working in real estate companies that has driven this research. It is not easy for a company to

The company is committed to using both plant based and laboratory made ingredients of the highest quality and proven efficacy particularly those with the greatest anti oxidant properties. The company was started by a hairdresser Dennis Paphitis who used to work in a salon. Product wise he started adding essential oils to the commercial hair color, as the smell of ammonia is quiet overwhelming his clients responded well to these less aggressive aromas. He then took this up as a passion and started understanding these ingredients and started working with a chemist on a small range of hair products. Eventually the hair product extended to a hand and body product category and finally skin care. Dennis felt this was an opportunity that was approaching his way. Finally in 1996 he quit the salon and began his extensive research and development in the field of cosmetics. He felt that the marketing of his product was limited just to the salon. The next few years he along with the chemist intensely spent time setting up a foundation for a product line and development. All this was done
  • 11. The Major Empires Of West Africa From 1200-1500 1) What were the major empires of West Africa from 1200 1500? What were their major industries, modes of social organization? What were their standards of living and lifespans compared to Europe? The Mali empire was established in 1235. It was the largest and the richest empire in the African Middle Ages. During this time Malian emperors relied on a small central administration, which was primarily concerned with finances and justice. (Patterns of World History pg. 400) The empire financed itself through tributes and taxes, but their main source of income relied on trade. The Mali would often trade long distance through merchants and scholars. In Timbuktu, the Mali would produce or mine for salt, creating a Salt Trade Hub in Timbuktu. Timbuktu was also important because it was one of the most important scholarly cities in the world that held massive libraries. Mansa Musa the Malian ruler who annexed Timbuktu. He wanted to share his wealth with his people, so he founded a college, a library, and part of Sankore Mosque. Mansa Musa lived a very lavish and luxurious life and tried to share that life with his people. This actually put in the gold markets in relapse because he put too much gold into circulation, but it influenced Malians to become scholars and at a higher standard of living. The Great Zimbabwe was a kingdom that was established in 1250. This kingdom was a culmination of various southern African kingdoms. While most settlements within the kingdom were dedicated to

Dweck tries to encourage parents that children must develop a growth mind set instead of fixed one, to illustrate Dweck explains that growth mind set will create the ability to adapt to all future situations, The helpless ones believe that intelligence is a fixed trait: you have only a certain amount, and that s that. I call this a fixed mind set. Mistakes crack their self confidence because they attribute errors to a lack of ability, which they feel powerless to change. They avoid challenges because challenges make mistakes more likely and looking smart less so. Like Jonathan, such children shun effort in the belief that having to work hard means they are dumb . As culture we attribute hard work as weakness towards a subject as a flaw. We create almost artificial intelligence that help crushing failures instead of praising the hard work that led to success. We presume in times of hardships will we simply give up but this is not for the case for some individuals who have personal faced eras of revolutions and wars pushed through all the chaos just to continue living not only for themselves as well as for others. • 13. Similarities Between Equality And Inequality The social issue of equality and inequality, has dated back to the beginning of time. Although there is no way to find out, would one really think that cavemen would not fight about who got the most food? Even children would argue if someone else has more crayons, or more toys. Everyone has demanded equalityat least once in their lifetime. Unfortunately inequalityoccurs more often than equality, and this will never change. Race, sex, and religion are the three main points that occur most often in today s society. If someone were to turn on the news, they would more than likely see global issues on race, sex, religion, and their fight for equality. I will be discussing the similarities and differences of equality and inequality through race, sex, and religion. When someone thinks about the similarities of equality and inequality in a social setting, they might think that there are none. In fact, there are many similarities, and the main one is humans. Humans either have equality, or they do not have it, and want it. Usually people have more courage in a group, rather than alone. This is also a similarity with equality and inequality. It is often groups that rightfully raise the issue of an inequality between themselves and the rest of society (Gosepath). The rest of society that Gosepath is referring to, is people who have equality, which connects equality and inequality. The first similarity of equality and inequality is race. Both sides deal with all kinds of people

  • 15. Driving And Drinking And Driving There are already laws in effect that are not being utilized as well as they could be. Sobriety checkpoints are effective, but only when they are used. There are also interlock systems that can be installed in a vehicle when a person has been drinking and driving. However, not every person that is caught drinking and drivingis required to have this system installed in their vehicle. There is also an idea that if you are involved in an accident the policeman on the scene can ask to see your phone and if there is proof that you were on your phone at the time of the accident you will be at fault. Ralph Hingson, director of the Division of Epidemiology and Prevention Research at the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse states, Meanwhile, some valuable tools are not being used. Sobriety checkpoints and effective in reducing drinking and driving if they are publicized, so they can serve as a deterrent, says Hingson (Kinnerly par 19). If the legal driving age was raised, seatbelt laws were made the priority, speed limits were lowered, safety features were mandatory in all vehicles, and laws were enforced there would be fewer accidents. If these ideas were put into action, imagine what the fatality rates would look like if the leading causes of fatal accidents were fixed or changed. We could fix what self driving cars claim they will fix without the self driving car its self, making the need for these cars unnecessary. It has been proven that self driving cars will have

Introduction Metals undergo natural destruction that allows a spontaneous deteriorating reaction where they return to their original state from where they are obtained upon contact with the surrounding, particularly when reacted to oxygen. Such phenomenon is known as corrosion (Zumdahl, 1998). This leads the surface of the materials to rust in due time. Usually, this kind of process is electrochemical but is sometimes accompanied by mechanical and physical stress that causes the metal to corrode (Heitz et al, 1992). However, a great consequence on the economic status is incorporated in this phenomenon. Since metals undergo corrosion that may result to its inefficiency and inadequateness, billions of dollars are spent just to prevent its occurrence. It was observed that there are different factors that contribute to the deterioration of metal, specifically on iron which is widely used in different industrial establishments. These are the acidity and basicity of solution where the metal will be immersed or be in contact with, mechanical

Like the earlier world war, it destroyed a previous social and economic order (Curtis, 1996). Many of tall buildings were built to meet the large number of human requirements. Modernism was rapidly developed at that time. This essay aims to explore the development of modernism after World War II by compare and contrast the two apartments which are Hansaviertel Apartmentin German and Society Hill Towers in the USA. It first discusses the similarity of the two chosen buildings. Then explains the difference of design, which includes surroundings, building form and the apartment layout. Furthermore, explore the factors lead to those difference which are policy, the influence of the other architects and architects own belief. As cities were destroyed during the war, there were increasing needs of buildings especially the apartments and houses. These two chosen projects have the same functions as apartments. They were both high rise buildings, which were built as a part of the redevelopment of the city after the war. The Hansaviertel Apartment was built in 1957, Berlin, Germany and designed by Alar Aalto. The other one is named Society Hill Towers in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. I.M Pei is the designer for this apartment. The two apartments were built at the same time but contrast greatly in term of design, which can represent the several kinds of development of modernism after the
  • 20. The Victorian Era Throughout history, cultures and societies across the globe have used monsters or any sort of creature to exemplify anxieties and fears that they have. The same can be said for works of literature and art. These authors use these anxieties, personify them, and use them to exaggerate the fears of the readers. In short, the monsters/creatures that are created in each literary era depict and personify the biggest fears and viewpoints of the society that it was written in. In the case of the Victorian/Romantic era in British Literature, many authors discuss the many different feelings about science and the role of women at the time. Both the Romantic and Victorian eras of English history were product of the scientific developments that occurred during these periods of history. The Romantic era was the response that artists, authors, and society in general had from the Age of Reason (or Enlightenment), where the major philosophers and scientists of the day believed that humans could change through rational ways of thinking. These Romantic writers chose the supernatural or miracles over the scientific method as well as passion over reason. Similarly, the Victorian era was marked by major discoveries and writings such as Charles Lyell s Principles of Geology and Charles Darwins Origin of Species and The Decent of Man . These works terrified the growing Evangelical movement because they were frightened at the notion of the human species sharing an ancestor with primates,

The cement sand slurry used is of the proportion 1:2 with a water cement ratio 0.6. The percentage of fibres (by volume fraction) used in the experimentation is 6 % for mono fibres. Key words:SIFCON, FLY ASH, GI FIBRE, HDPE FIBRE and STRENGTH PARAMETERS. INTRODUCTION Nowadays, we talk much about high performance concrete. It has higher strength, better durability and elasticity. Although high strength concrete is often considered as relatively new material, its development has been gradually taking place over many years. In the discussion of high performance concrete role played by FRC is vital. FRC is defined as a composite material which consists of conventional concrete reinforced by randomly dispersed short length fibres of specific geometry, made up of steel, synthetic material or natural fibres. The fibres are distributed evenly throughout the mix without balling or clustering. The randomly oriented fibres help to bridge and arrest the cracks. As such, crack widening is gradual as compared to plain concrete. This leads to better

  • 23. Hard To Pay For College Essay Nowadays it s hard to get a degree and even harder to pay for. In the article How to Pay for College , it says that with hard work students can earn scholarships, apply for financial aid, finance loans, and take on a part time job to pay for college. However, there is plenty of evidence proving otherwise. Due to the rising costs of tuition and the restrictions to getting financial aid, it is almost impossible for lower and middle class citizens to afford college. Loans leave students in debtand scholarships are not always a sure thing. With a part time job, putting in too many hours of work can interfere with ones sleep and actual study time. Recently a study was done on the average college students ability to pay for college with a part time job. Randy Olsen, a computer science graduate research assisstant at Michigan State University, crunched the numbers for both Michigan State and all public universities in the U.S. The average tuition cost at an in state public university is $8,709 not including room and board, books and supplies, personal care, and transportaton fees. Research shows that the amount of hours needed to work to pay for college tuition with a part time minimum wage job has more than tripled since the year 1979. It is now a lot harder to work your way through college than it was 37 years ago. Many people in America miss the chance at pursuing a higher education. This is not because they lack talent or they do not try hard enough. Their parents cannot
  • 24. The Judicial System Of The Court System In today s society, the United States court system has a very strict order due to the fact that rules and regulations used to not be as exclusive as they are now. One of the various steps in the court system is that of the preliminary hearing and the grand jury. There are three main issues that are incorporated in the preliminary hearings which include, when it is required, the appropriate standard to determine if the prosecution has a case, and the procedural rights included at the hearing (Whitebread and Slobogin, 2008, p. 623). The court system is made up of various aspects of different regulations but one of the key components is that of the grand jury. The grand jurycontinuously changes, but as of now relies more on the prosecutor than it has in the past. The preliminary hearing is an important part of the judicial system but under the federal constitution and various state laws, it is not required by the constitution. The defendant also has the right to counsel under the sixth amendment. Under the preliminary hearing statue, the prosecutor may show probable cause to arrest and the evidence can also be admissible at trial. The preliminary hearing typically takes place after the initial appearance, the Gerstein determination, and the bail hearing. In the preliminary hearing, the judge can also decide if there is enough evidence to send the defendant to trail. In Lem Woon v. Oregon (1913), the court refused to apply the Fifth Amendment s obligation that only serious
  • 25. Factors Of Imperialism In Africa There were many factors that contributed to imperialism in Africa. Imperialism is when a nation plans to dominate or take over another but in political, economic, or social ways. The Europeans were trying to dominate Africa and there were many factors that played a role in this. One of the major advantages that the Europeans had was their technological advancements. They were usually the first people to acquire new items that were more advanced. One of these items was the Maxim gun. It was the worlds first automatic machine gun and it was created in 1884. As the Europeans got ahold of this new weapon, the Africans were forced to use the outdated weapons. The steam engine was another advancement that the Europeans had. It allowed them to travel on the rivers in order to create bases of control in Africa. They did this because they wanted to take control over their empire. Steam engines weren t the only thing helping people communicate with close nations. Railroads, cables, and steamships all allowed the nations to talk with each other. There was a major problem as time went on. Malaria started to take over Africa. Malaria is a disease that is carried by swarms of mosquitoes. The problem kept the Europeans on the coast and prevented them from going too deep into Africa. Of course there was another factor that allowed them to travel into Africa. That was the perfection of the drug quinine in 1824. The factors in Africa made it easier for the Europeans to colonize it. Africa had such a diverse community that it made it hard for them to unite. All the different languages and cultures were the problem. The Europeans learned to play rivals groups against each other for their benefit. These ethnic groups fought wars which were caused by control over land, water, and trade rights. Since the groups already disliked each other then why not create more tension between them in order to help yourself? That s exactly what the Europeans did and it was a very good idea. These were just a couple of factors that played a role to imperialism in Africa. Africans weren t buying a lot of the Europeans goods. The Europeans were trying to find a way that they could divide Africa without causing a war between each other.

This quote relates to George Orwell s allegorical novella, Animal Farm, because throughout the novella, Napoleon, one of the pigs, uses his advantage of intelligence as a way to manipulate the other animals into believing everything he told them. Although Napoleon changes quite a number of things on the farm, the changes are incremental and small so that he makes it appear that there was no changes at all. As Napoleon s power increases, he is not yet satisfied with the amount of power he is able to obtain yet. Brand identity and brand image are two distinct yet interrelated dimensions of brand building. Brand identity entails the strategic efforts of firms to assign a brand with unique characteristics in a bid to achieve positive perceptions by target consumers (Nandan, 2005). The ingredients of a brand are the product itself, the packaging, the brand name, the promotion, the advertising and the overall presentation. The brand owner assembles these attributes and blends them in a unique way. A key to enhancing the equity of a brand is the selection of an appropriate branding strategy. Laforet and Saunders (1999) define branding strategy as the way companies mix and match their corporate, house, family and individual brand types for their products or services. This mix and match of brand types generates a variety of options for the companies from which they can select a suitable branding strategy for a product/ service. Furthermore, McDonald et al. The use of metaphors and symbols throughout the playsuch as baseball and fences, illustrate exactly why Troy Maxson as a family man was destined for disappointment. Rose, Troy s wife in the playwas the obvious voice of reason between the two; all she wanted was an interrupted happy family life. The fences that she put up were not physical fences but rather emotional and psychological ones used to keep her family in line. These fences were made very clear to both the reader and the other characters in the play. For example when Bono (Troy s best friend) is questioning Troy s commitment to Rose he said, Some people build fences to keep people out... and others build fences to keep people in. Rose wants to hold on to you all. She loves you. (898). This excerpt perfectly described the different values shared between Rose and Troy but is also a common generalization of gender roles in most family. The only fence Rose ever set up for Troy was one of loyalty and commitment. She believed in the strength in numbers whilst Troy strongly believed in the power of individuality. Troy on the other hand had a completely different approach when it

Each paragraph and section is written and structured in such a way as to give the reader insight into the feelings of the victims of the plague, and to show somewhat of a theme. The passage from section 4, part 4, line number 1 to line number 35 gives us a glimpse of the melancholy of the people of Oranto their dead loved ones to the extent that they do not attend All Souls Day, for they were thinking of them too much as it was.
