Multiculturalism Essays
Writing an essay on the topic of multiculturalism can be both challenging and rewarding. The
complexity arises from the vastness and diversity inherent in the subject. Multiculturalism
involves the coexistence of different cultural backgrounds within a society, which encompasses
various aspects such as ethnicity, religion, language, and traditions. Addressing this multifaceted
concept requires a deep understanding of cultural dynamics, historical contexts, and societal
implications.
One difficulty lies in navigating through the intricate layers of multiculturalism and presenting a
well-rounded perspective. It demands thorough research to grasp the historical evolution of
multicultural societies, the challenges they face, and the benefits they bring. Additionally, one
must delve into the philosophical and ethical dimensions of cultural diversity, examining the
balance between preserving individual cultural identities and fostering a sense of unity.
Expressing these ideas coherently in an essay requires strong analytical and critical thinking
skills. Writers need to synthesize information from various sources, integrate different
viewpoints, and construct a clear argument. Balancing objectivity while acknowledging the
subjective nature of cultural experiences can be particularly challenging.
Furthermore, the writer must consider the ever-evolving nature of multiculturalism, as societies
are constantly changing and adapting to new influences. Staying current with the latest
developments in multicultural theory and real-world applications adds another layer of
complexity to the task.
Despite these challenges, writing an essay on multiculturalism can be intellectually stimulating
and enlightening. It provides an opportunity to engage with important societal issues, fostering a
deeper understanding of the dynamics that shape our interconnected world.
In conclusion, tackling a multiculturalism essay demands a blend of research, critical thinking,
and a nuanced understanding of diverse cultures. The process may be demanding, but the
insights gained and the ability to contribute meaningfully to the discourse on cultural diversity
make it a worthwhile endeavor.

The Boeing Company Financial Health
Introduction
The goal of the study is to provide overall financial statement overview of The Boeing
Company using the knowledge obtained during the Financial Management course.
The main question of the study is how financially well the company is at the moment
and what investment expectation it generates on the market nowdays.
The Boeing Company background
The company was originally founded by William Boeing on July 15, 1916, as The
Pacific Aero Products Company . Two years later it was renamed into The Boeing
Company , on May 9, 1917. Since that date the company grew and acquired a lot of
its competitors, including the McDonnell Douglas in 1997.

Reasons:
In comparison to 2008, sales in 2010 increased by $3381 million.
In comparison to 2008, CGS in 2010 increased only by $1513 million.
Boeing s 2010 Gross Profit Margin ratio is comparable with the industry norm of
19,7%.
ROA ratio indicates the efficiency with which management has used its available
resources to generate income. In 2009 there was a decrease in ROA value, but ROA
in 2010 matches the industry average. That means that assets in 2010 were used
efficiently.
ROS ratio indicates the profitability generated from revenue and hence is an
important measure of operating performance. In 2010 return on sales reached the
highest value of 5,14%. This indicates that the earning power of the business
improved in 2010, but it s still below the earning capacity of an average firm in the
industry. Reasons for increase:
In comparison to 2008, operational income in 2010 increased by $983 million. In
comparison to 2008, sales in 2010 increased by $3381 million.
The decline in ROA, ROS, Gross Profit Margin and OIRI in 2009 was caused by
the decline in Net Income from $2676 to $1312. In 2009 the company to write off

Reflection On Crime And Crime
Over the semester, our class has focused on race, ethnicity, and crime and how it
has played a role in why certain individuals are targeted, labeled, and victimized. I
want to focus on how the police play a role in this matter and connect it to
adolescents getting targeted, labeled and victimized because this is a problem
especially in schools. The police and schools use different mentalities when dealing
with certain situations, this can create these individuals to believe that there is a
separation between the two groups. With certain races, crimes are more likely to be
blamed on them, which creates labeling to occur and making the punishment more
problematic for the future. These youths are carrying around a criminal record at

Kalief and many other accused black males have lost their childhood behind bars.
Kalief was innocent and what he gained from being locked up was a mental
illness. Kalief wasn t the same person after leaving Rikers Island, he was a stranger
to himself. Kalief did commit suicide in 2015, he was only 22 years old. Kalief
was a victim of losing his childhood, by awaiting trial in prison. Now, look at how
the school systems play a role in how they target their victims. School institutions
target the children that act out and misbehavior. Those children tend to be children
that are African American and disabled youths. These school systems are labeling
them as bad , disruptive , and troublesome . When someone becomes labeled, that
individual will start believing the words that are said about them. This is called a
self fulling prophecy . When youths begin to act out they are then taken out of
school, leading them to fall behind in academic classes. Carla Amurao wrote in the
article, How Bad Is the School to Prison Pipeline that those who are unnecessarily
forced out of school become stigmatized and fall behind in their studies; many
eventually decide to drop out of school altogether, and many others commit crimes in
their communities , (para. 2). It seems as though these school institutions are steering
these children on a path to failure. These children are the victim of

There are those who are quick to get into the holiday spirit, and there are those who
blog angrily about how they saw candy canes on the Wal Mart shelves before
Halloween. To satisfy those in the former group, radio stations have been jumping on
the 24 hour holiday music train since the mid 1990s. To the disappointment of the
latter, the trend is gaining momentum and starting earlier than ever this year.
I have never seen a more successful, impactful and sustainable impact on ratings as all

They also point out that competition between broadcasters often leads to stations
turning earlier and earlier.
This year, Pandora is pushing over 35 holiday themed channels, and Sirius XM
boasts 8, with one that is nonstop year round. But the iHeartRadio Network has been
plotting their attack all year. President Darren Davis said their all holiday preparation
usually begins in August.
It s about more than just the songs, said Davis. When you walk into a Hallmark store
around the holidays, everything is Christmas the carpet is Christmas, the window
decorations are Christmas, it smells like Christmas candles and cookies. That s the
environment we try to create with our Christmas radio station.
While most radio stations are racing to be the first, one UK station hopes to be the
last. Starting today, Birmingham s Free Radio 80s aims to set a new record as the
first FM radio station to broadcast nonstop holiday tunes for 33 days
Psychological Perspective Psychology
The psychological perspective views the illness as being caused by underlying
conflicts that are rooted in our brains. Freud believes that events in our childhood
can have a significant impact on our behavior as adults. He also believed that people
have little free will to make choices in life. Instead, our behavior is determined by the
unconscious mindand childhood experiences. (McLeod 2007) Through this thinking,
DID is something that is caused by some underlying cause that the person is unaware
of. With DID, it is brought on by a certain event or experience and not something that
makes its appearance out of nowhere without a cause. People can deal with DID in
adulthood and it may not have anything to do with their childhood. One of the... Show

behavioral approach views the disorder as being brought on by learning it through
reinforcements all around us. With the learning perspective it is possible to define
the behavior and also measure changes in the behavior. (Mcleod 2013) Behaviorism,
as seen in the name, focusses on the behaviors of the person which is seen on the
outside of the person, but it fails to examine the inside such as thinking and emotions.
What goes on internally is not able to be measured though. Behavior is the result of
stimulus response (i.e. all behavior, no matter how complex, can be reduced to a
simple stimulus response association). (Mcleod) The multiple personalities is the
response to the traumatic event, which is the stimulus. The cognitive perspective is
often paired with the behavioral perspective as behaviors are often linked with
cognition. As these go together, one type of treatment that is suggested in helping
deal with DID is, cognitive behavioral therapy. Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT)
is a common type of talk therapy (psychotherapy). You work with a mental health
counselor (psychotherapist or therapist) in a structured way, attending a limited
number of sessions. CBT helps you become aware of inaccurate or negative thinking
so you can view challenging situations more clearly and respond to them in a more
effective way. (Mayo Clinic
Twin Stereotypes
Splitting Up is Never Easy For most people they have the idea of twins being two
peas in a pod or have a bond that makes them as if they were one. The stereotype is
very accurate most twins dress, talk, and look the same. However if you were to
meet my sister and I you would never guess we are twins. Lauren, my sister does
not resemble me at all. We have different facial features, hair, and personality.
When we were very little my mom would dress us alike everyday even our pajamas
were the same. I can still remember our mom dressing us for the first day of school.
The overalls were a charcoal grey with our favorite little mouse with a pretty bright
red bow in her hair. Along with our clothes matching we also had to have our hair

Joy Harjo s The Woman Hanging From The Thirteenth

When creating a persona authors provide an insight into their own lives. Even if an
author is not creating an autobiographical persona, they are writing from their
experiences, feelings, or memories. For that reason, they are creating something
from within. The persona usually conveys a story or provides a message to the
reader from the author. Thus, creating a strong persona is essential to the piece of
literature to convey its point. Since, the persona is the readers focus. Joy Harjo s

First, the setting of the poem is in east Chicago (Kelly 140). Second, the line she is a
woman of children, of the baby Carlos connects with the image she had of the women
rocking the baby. (Kelly 140). Throughout the poem, Harjo makes many references to
children, which ties them to the children she imagined rocking in the chair. Third,
Harjo makes the remark that the women who is hanging from the window could
have been in the chair. Harjo puts this idea into the poem by writing, it was in the
farther north and she was the baby then. They rocked her (Kelly 140). The women
from the poem who is hanging could have been in the chair moments before,
remembering when she was a child being comforted. Ultimately, if Harjo had not
been a Native American she would not have been at the urban Indian center, which
inspired her to create the poem. Native American women and their struggles would
not have affected her. However, Harjo says, I always write with especially these
women in mind because I want us all to know as women, as Indian people, as
human beings, that there is always hope, that we are whole, alive, and precious

The Documentary About Nevsun, A Canadian Mining

The documentary is about Nevsun, a Canadian mining company for permitting forced
labor and abuse of human rights in Bisha mine in Eretria. The documentary is
prepared and presented by Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, Fifth Estate in
February 2016. The film meshes well with the unfortunate miseries that civilians have
to endure under the aristocratic regime of President Isaias Afwerki. The film is
incredibly mind boggling and captivating in disclosing felonious activities by the
Nevsun in collaboration with the Eritrea s government. The film attempts to portray
how compromised cooperation between private firms and aristocratic regimes leads
to forced labor; abuse of human right and crimes against humanity ( Nevsun In
Eritrea: Dealing With A Dictator The Fifth Estate ).
The film focuses its attention on the use of forced conscripted military labor.
Indisputably, the film highlights the miseries of Eritrean in implausible style. An
extensive investigation by the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation highlights how
Nevsun, through Segen could have been collaborating with the Eritrean dictatorial
regime for cheap labor. Apparently under the military conscriptionEritrea, every man
below the age of fifty serves in the army for an indefinite period. Use of conscripted
military labor is common especially by colluding with private companies to exploit
the civilian. As Kesete Tekle, a former military personnel notes refusing the
assignment meant that the authorities could have
Literary Techniques Used in The Storm by Kate Chopin
This short story was really straight forward until it got to the end, where it had a
twist, which made me pick the story to write on. Kate Chopin did an outstanding job
using symbolism, but this novel is not for all ages, if you know what I mean. How
the setting, tone and theme all tie all together is what makes the story different from
the others.
Is the storm literal or symbolic? This particular question really stood out and really
made me think and analysis the story. For example, the question asks about the storm
if it is literal or symbolic. The storm is a super obvious symbol. It s involved in
practically every element of the story. First off, it s the title. Second, it plays a huge
role in the plot, forming the beginning and the end of the story. It also plays a really
important part in the middle by bringing Calixta and Alcee together, pushing them
into each other s arms and giving them the time and space to get physical before the
world outside returns to normal. Also, the storm is a frightening occurrence in the
natural world. Alcee describes it as a cyclone (Chopin 2.13), while Bobinot can tell
right away that its sombre, sinister, and threatening (Chopin 1.1). Chopin describes
the rain pouring down with a repetition and regularity that suggests rain itself. Of
course, it s when all that rain is coming down most passionately and brutally that
Calixta and Alcee are also getting more and more passionate; exploring their feelings
for one another to the
The Long Term And Short Term Memory
According to philosopher psychologist William James, memory is a generalized
concept that encompasses the long term and short term memory. Kendra Cherry,
psychologist expert, defines long term memory as storage of information over an
extended period. (Cherry n.d.) An individual s long term memory is structured by a
semi permanent chemical and the anatomical hippocampus. The hippocampus is in
the center of both hemispheres of the brain and works in accordance with the
amygdala to allow information to be imported to form memories. In relation to her
research of the long term memory, Cherry also provided information on the
characterization of the short memory which is described as, the primary or active
memory that presently takes in information. (Cherry n.d.) The thalamus is a large
portion of a dual lobed mass of matter that is located under the cerebral cortex. An
individual s brain goes through three stages of the retention of information which are:
encoding, storage, and retrieval. Our brain codes information in three methods which
is through visual, acoustic, and semantic simulation. Encoding means that certain
signals are sent to the brain. Storage means that the brain is maintaining information
over time. Information is received through the working memory that consist of
auditory memory and spatial memory. (Morrin, n.d) Spatial memory captures the
visual aspects of the information being presented to the subject.
There are two types of rehearsals: maintenance
School Shootings, It Shook The Nation
Flooding every major media outlet making headlines across the country are school
shootings, it shook the nation when twenty, first graders and six adults were killed
by Adam Lanza, a twenty year old man who shot his mother in the head before taking
her car and driving to Sandy Hook Elementary. Other schoolshooting have occurred
since then and it brought up the issue of guncontrol, some politicians even supported
the idea of giving teachers guns to have in the classroom. I am against allowing
teachers to have guns in the classroom in the name of protection and security.
What is your initial point of view?
My initial point of view is adding more guns to a hostile situation by giving teachers
guns does not solve schools security issues in trying to keep children safe. Spending
valuable money should not go into training teachers on how to use a gun, it should
go into educating all staff members and students on emergency drills and lock downs
in case of a school shooting. Even upgrading security systems would be more helpful
in a hostile situation rather than depending on one person killing another to save
everyone.
How can you define your point of view more clearly?
I can define my point of view more clearly by asking questions that maybe many
people have not wanted to ask for the fear of receiving a selfish answer. For
example has anyone asked a teacher, even with the training and the gun in your hand
are you really ready to kill someone? The state and the school are
Making Business in China
JГ©rГґme BauchГ©
INTERNATIONAL MARKETING
China s culture and business practices differ from Europe or even North American.
As you start making business in China, having an understanding of Chinese business
etiquette is important to your success. Knowing and practicing common customs will
also help you to avoid embarrassment, and focus on the matters at hand on critical
occasions.
Appearance
One of the most visible changes to the human landscape of China over the past few
decades has been the change in dress code. Many men now wear suits and ties and
women tend to wear skirts and blouses of a modest cut. It is advisable to have smart
business attire with you when visiting.

That s why most of foreign businessmen hire a lawer while they negotiate with
Chinese people.
One of the most important things about Chinese culture is the gift. Not only is the
choice of gift important in Chinese culture, but how much you spend on it, how you
wrap it, and how you present it are equally important.
Dining
Dining is used to probe positions without any formal commitment. Business is
generally not discussed during meals. Meals are a vehicle for indirect business
references. Seating is one of the most important parts of the dinner. The most senior
person will sit furthest from the entrance and facing the door. The guest of honor sits
to the most senior person s right. The person paying the bill sits opposite the guest of
honor and closest to the door.
Always arrive exactly on time for a banquet. Never arrive early for dinner. This
implies that you are hungry and that you are here only for the food.
At the end of the dinner, do not forget to leave some food on your plate during each
course of a meal to honor the generosity of your host. It is bad manners for a
Chinese host not to keep refilling guests plates or teacups. Also, if you are the guest
of honor at a dinner, leave shortly after the meal is finished, as no one will leave
before the guest of honor.
Conclusion
Doing research on the market is important in China, but personal relationships are
equally essential to business success here. It is crucial to establish and maintain good
How Did General Zaroff s Attitude Change In The Most...
People have experiences that cause changes in their views. In the short story The
Most Dangerous Game General Zaroff s view was changed through his experiences.
General Zaroff s views changed about how he saw himself, Sanger Rainsford, the
setting and the conflict, the hunt, because of his experiences. The way a character
sees themself can affect the point of view of a story. In the beginning, General Zaroff
felt that he was a skilled and successful hunter. He felt that huntingwas his passion
and chose to pursue it his entire life. He had been hunting since the age of five,
when he killed his father s prized turkey with his first pistol. Since then, he had
hunted much larger game. Zaroff s skills and success in his previous hunts was...

but he saw his skills and success as inferior to Rainsford s. The General s view of

changed his view of Rainsford from a fellow hunter to an adversary. At the end of
the story, Zaroff continued to see Rainsford as an adversary but he saw him as an
adversary he can not defeat. As well as his view of Rainsford, General Zaroff s
view of the setting changed by the end of the story. Beginning the story, Zaroff saw
the setting, the island, as a safe place with a positive atmosphere. By the end of the
story, Zaroff s view changed because, to him, the setting can no longer be
considered safe or hold a positive atmosphere. The last place in which Zaroff
changed his views is towards the conflict. The initial conflict Zaroff faced was
avoiding boredom while hunting. His conflict changed from avoiding boredom to
survival in his duel with Rainsford. General Zaroff s experiences throughout the story
Residential School System
Native Culture Loss Through The Residential School System
When people think about the splendiferous history of the great country of Canada,
the vast majority forget or remain unaware of the hidden grim past of Canada s
residential school system and the Catholic church s impact on the attempted
assimilation of the rich native culture. The Catholic church, for so many unjustifiable
reasons could not find it in their hearts to accept the purity and simplicity of the First
Nations lifestyle. In fact, it is due to the arrogant, self centered ways of the Catholic
church body that the majestic style of life was nearly extinct during the residential
school era..

First of all the natives believed there were no legitimate justifications for running
these schools, considering the manner in which the students were treated. The church
had many ideas on why they thought the residential school system was a complete
benefit for the aspect of Canadian national progress, including the native people,
society, economy and many other areas of Canada s identity. Many felt this system
was a selfish act which was used as a tool to strengthen the massive religious empire
the Catholic Church had already obtained. Furthermore, by engaging in youth
education the Catholic Church believed much of its dark and bloody past including
scandals, corruption, and wars etc. could be patched or forgotten after performing
this so called deed to society. It is also said that European lifestyle was during this
time the most successful and prosperous civilization up to date, which may have been
why the Catholic Church believed it would be a benefit to converting natives to the
lifestyle in which Catholicism was widely practiced and which was also the
civilization of the pinnacle of human achievement. (Katuhalpua) Lastly the Canadian
government also had an active role in the running of the residential schools by
funding the schools and acting as a rather strong support system for the residential
school system.

Holland Tunnel History
The Holland Tunnel was built in 1920 1924 by pushing cylindrical shields through
the river bottom. The shields not only dug through mud but also served as the shell
beneath which the actual tunnel walls were constructed. The tunnel walls were built
of iron rings filled in with concrete making sure it was not hollow. Two shields were
used; one began on the New York shore and the other on the New Jersey shore. They
finally were able to meet in October 1924. The 1.6 mile span of the Holland Tunnel
was the first tunnel under the Hudson River that allowed for the passing of vehicles.
When it was finally opened, it was the longest underwater and mechanically ventilated
tunnel in the world. The tunnel was an amazing achievement that pioneered the
solution to many engineering problems. (Holland Tunnel Construction) By the early
1920 s, many ferries crossed the Hudson River, which was the only mode of

Entering compressed air into the tunnel was one of the harder areas on the creation of
the tunnel along side the ventilation systems. Because they had to balance the
compressed air with the pressure of the water that was trying to enter into the tunnel,
this made working conditions extremely hard. In October 26, 1922 compressed air
was introduced into the shield chamber on the New York side and the actual
tunneling began. Each shield weighed around 400 tons with all of the equipment in
place weighing everything down. Tunnel construction workers in this project were
called sandhogs and are credited for saying Think twice, you only live once.
(Scientific American) This quote pretty much summed up the danger of working in
the tunnel. Teams of sandhogs followed the two massive 400 ton shields removing
mud, blasting through rock, and were bolting together the iron

Insanity In De Bernier s The Duce
De Bernier s uses a theme of madness to illustrate his views on war. Madness is,
personified by Mussolini, who is depicted bluntly in the chapter, The Duce . The
chapters portrays at an early stage the miserable state of affairs that force the
Italians into conflict and invasion, all due to the whim of an insane who considers
the lives of people on the same level as his own trivial domestic affairs, Greece is a
totalitarian state that should naturally be on our side...I can t stand cats. What do
you mean, it saves on mousetraps? Don t tell me when I can or cannot use my
revolver indoors. The rhythm of his speech and the fact it is often in short and
uncalculated outbursts emphasises Mussolini s complete and utter insanity. It is
significant to notice that we never see an exchange of dialogue, indicating that
Mussolini is as much speaking to himself as he commanding people, creating an
even greater sense of madness. The use of contrasting tones here is used by De
Bernier to create the impression of a simple minded man, typical to his short
attention span. De Bernier s presentation of Mussolini may not unsettle the reader as
they are likely to... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There is a large build up to the invasion of Cephalonia where all the islanders
prepare for the attack; the reader is perhaps therefore shocked by the bathos when
De Bernieres portrays the Italians in a whimsical and harmless manner. From one
extreme to another, fathers who expected to be beaten to death stroke the hair of
daughters who expected to be raped in comparison with Bella bambina at nine o

Film Techniques Used In 1984 And Metropolis By Fritz Lang
Language, history and belief are easily changed. It is through the manipulation and
representation of language, history and belief that gives elite, governing bodies
power over the masses. In Nineteen Eighty Four a novel by George Orwell, Orwell
takes this readers to Airstrip One, which is what remains of London in the year
2060 after many years of war. Airstrip one is under constant surveillance through
telescreens under the watchful eye of the Party and Big Brother. Similarly in
Metropolis a silent film by Fritz Lang, Lang takes his viewers to Metropolis a
futuristic mega city, which is operated by machines below the surface by many
workers slaving away in the subterranean workers city. In both Nineteen Eighty Four

In the film Metropolis, Fritz Lang uses film techniques and specific genre devices
to communicate to the audience the ideas and concepts featured in Metropolis. Lang
uses elements from both Science Fiction and Dystopian film genres, as well as
elements of German Expressionism to warn future generations about the dangers of
technology and science, human ambition and industrialisation. The science fiction
genre typically uses a futuristic setting, feature characters that try to challenge or
test the morals and boundaries of human ambition and science, has technology that
is incongruous with the time period of release and has a new political and societal
structure. The futuristic setting used in Metropolis is based upon New York City,
which Lang visited before making the film, the large skyscrapers represent man s
ambition and are symbolic of the Tower of Babel, from the Old Testament, which is
a story about ambition and rebellion. It is through these motif and techniques that
Lang expresses his concerns for the future. Elements such as the use of chiaroscuro,
use of reflective surfaces, anthropomorphism and art deco elements (seen in the
long shots of the city) are all example of German Expressionism. The use of
chiaroscuro in the establishing shot of the city as well as the low key lighting
created long, deep shadows being cast across the city scape, which highlighted the
grandness of the buildings and also brings to attention the underlying message about
ambition. The Robot Maria is an example of anthropomorphism, by giving Maria s
human like characteristics to the robot, Rotwang s characterisation is also another
science fiction element because of the use of futuristic technology and he also tries to
overstep ethical boundaries in creating the Robot Maria. Lang used all of these
elements in order to convey his very clear message about the dangers that

Notes On Bonds And Debt Investment
Bonds are financial instruments that are used as debt investment. Bonds are a means
for an investor to lend or loan money to an entity or organisation or the government.
Time of maturity is usually predetermined (Bodie, Zvi, Kane, and Alan 12). The
interest rate for this transaction however might or might not be fixed or be variable,
otherwise known as the spot rate. The bondsare very powerful instruments in the
market nowadays. T bills, which are government issued are instruments that are used
to show the performance of the market, since the interest rate attracted by this
instruments is the risk free interest rate. The higher this interest rate is, the higher the
rate of return for the investor in this market. For this project, five bonds have been
selected to serve as the drivers of the bonds investments section. In this selection,
diversification has been applied both in industry and geographical positioning of the
markets so as to achieve as optimal as possible. The volatility in price and the
volatility in the currency exchange rate of the various markets and financial
instruments have also been considered. Highly performing instruments were selected
and have been considered for this project. This include, the US Treasury bond,
Municipal bond (US), Cooperate bond (US), Fortress bond (UK) and the Turkey
treasury bond.
Inflation is a factor that is very highly considered in terms of investments and long
term financial commitments such

Wineburg, Ohio Essay
Wineburg, Ohio
Winesburg, Ohio, also known as the Book of Grotesque is a modern American
classic by Sherwood Anderson. He came to be known as the Father of Realism , as
he left his mark on literature, being the first one to portray authentic moments in
American life. He tells the stories of many faces he saw in his dreams, describing
their deeply moving lives filled with secrets. The twenty one stories in the novel are
united through the setting, Winesburg, and the main character, George Willard. The
novel is character driven, and the stories have very weak plots. Winesburg is a small

Social Media Satire
A rhetoric for contemplation; what is social media s magnitude that encompasses an
individual s everyday life? As the unabridged ecosphere verves on with their day to
day living: from wakening out of bedstead to arrive promptly at work, to getting up
late and hastening to class, surely in that time frame we are predisposed or rather

Apology, By Brad Watson
The human experience is a fragile and funny thing. More generally, biological
beings want and feel a need to belong. Yet, humans, as developed and advanced as
they may seem, go out of their way to prevent themselves from doing just that. The
short story Apology , by Brad Watson conveys this message through a depressing
narrative. In it, is a letter, or set of letters written to his supposed ex wife whom one
can surmise has left him. This is a reaction to the main characters drunken actions
throughout their married life. In addition, Watson displays this sympathetic message
through metaphorical and anecdotal means, describing the town in which he has
escaped to, experiences in nature, and past memories of his wife and child. Through
these heartfelt writings, one can surmise that the main character wants to explore the
stubbornness of human naturethrough his own experiences. In doing so, using themes
of self loathing, nostalgia, alcoholism, depression and more.
The setting is one that may cause confusion to many, never being officially
introduced with a name. It can be imagined as the high southwestern plains. He
describes, Pronghorn, jackrabbit, horses, crows. Trains, clouds, the occasional car.
You rarely see people if you don t go downtown (Watson 85). The nameless
protagonist, one of few characters within the piece, is alone. With the mention of only
one comrade within the entire town, he finds himself by his lonesome the majority of
the time. This setting alone,
The Interesting Narrative Of Olaudah Equiano And Penry
Religion plays a significant part in both The Interesting Narrative of Olaudah
Equiano by Olaudah Equiano, a former slave, and a series of poems written by
Phillis Wheatley, a former slave who resided in Boston. The Interesting Narrative
of Olaudah Equiano is a first person abolitionist slave narrative published in 1789
about Equiano s experiences during the Transatlantic Slave trade retelling Equiano
being forced from his home, the disparity from being moved from place to place,
and his discovery of Christianity. While the series of poems written by Phillis

When referencing the statement black as Cain, Wheatley alludes to the biblical
story of Cain and Abel. The story told in the bible, shows the dangerous result of
jealousy and anger. In the story, Cain and Abel two brothers who God asked them
to both bring a sacrifice. Abel brought his sacrifice to God the way that God
requested, while Cain didn t and his sacrifice was rejected. As a result, Cain became
angered and projected that anger onto Abel, eventually killing his brother. In order to
rationalize and continue the injustice of slavery, white slave owners people used the
concept of the rejected brother to validate the enslavement of Africans. But,
Wheatley opposes this view by saying that even Africans who bare the stain of Cain
can become refined and be forgiven when they accept Jesus Christ.
In his narrative, Equiano shares a similar sentiment as Wheatley regarding a
pivotal spiritual transition from darkness to light. On page 65, Equiano is exposed
to the concept of Christianity when he sees snow for the first time. He asks his
Captain who made the snow, the captain replies, ... a great man in the heavens,
called God... (Equiano 65). Then, Equiano recalls his experience going to church.
Equiano says, ...I was again amazed at seeing and hearing the service. I asked all I
could about it; and they gave me to understand it was worshipping God, who made us
and all things (Equiano 65). Nonetheless, Equiano s
Pros And Cons Of Cross-Platform App Development
Native or the web is the hot topic of argument between confounded decisions makers
and developers. Considering the pros and cons of evolving technologies and
analyzing its substantial effect over business performance spawns countless
arguments. With the entry of cross platform app development, a new player has
entered this longstanding debate.
What are Cross Platform Apps?
The apps compatible with individual operating systems are native apps. Whereas,
mobile apps compatible with different operating systems like android, iOS,
Windows and Blackberry OS are called as Cross Platform Apps. Also called as
hybrid apps, they are developed using native widgets or Web Views displaying
HTML content without the address bar along with normal controls for web browsing

Entrepreneurs after opting for hybrid mobile development are rewarded with a prime
benefit of building once and getting the app deployed on multiple platforms.
Nevertheless, cross platform apps come with few drawbacks, they do not take high
graphics with additional fluidity and they consume a substantial amount of memory.
Startups are using cross platform mobile app development as a tool to penetrate the
market and then replacing it with the native apps. Even you can do so.
When it comes to mobile app development, then it is very much hard for a novice
entrepreneur to figure out whether to go with native or with the cross platform app
development. The motive behind writing this blog is to break down the pros and
cons of both, cross platform as well as native apps so you can take an informed

Technological Determinism Analysis
Technological determinism is based on the technology led theory of social change.
This theory views technology as the prime shaper or mover of social behaviors in the
human history. Particular media evolutions, technical developments, and general
technological advancements are the determiners of social change in the society. Over
the history of humans, technologyhas had an impact on the social pattern through the
development of agriculture, industries, media, and the security. Although these
developments have positive contributions to the social patterns that go beyond the
cultural and political influence, it has negatively changed the social structures in
immeasurable ways when viewed from the perspective of rationality, efficiency, and
security. Early forms of agricultural practices aimed at solving the problem of food
security by increasing production of foods by use of efficient tools. Simple tools

Students Facing Obstacle During College Life
During the college life students have to deal with different types of obstacles. In the
article, College Pressures William Zinsser focuses on the pressure faced by the
college students. He talks about how the students are dealing with economic pressure,
parental pressure, peer pressure, and self induced pressure. College students are
worried about getting high paid jobs and being rich instead of relaxing and enjoying
now. Zinsser claims that students are worried about their future by using pathos.
According to Zinsser, one of the pressure students has to face in the college is
economical. Pathos have been used by the author to make the reader feel that how
students are dealing with economic problems. Student with scholarship are very
safe and doesn t have to worry about an economic problem. Zinsser states I tell
them to relax. They can t. Zinsser is trying to convince students not take the
pressure, but he/she won t be able to relax because college demands too much of
money. Just to pay for the college, students have to work during the weekends or
whenever there is a free time. Zinsser supports his stamen by proclaiming Tuition,
room, and board at most private colleges now comes to at least $7,000, not counting
books and fees. This might seem to suggest that the colleges are getting rich. But they
are equally battered by inflation. Tuition covers only 60% of what it costs to educate

was going to war in Vietnam. The next day a huge group of students at Kent State

Universities across the country. Everyone was protesting the bombing that was
happening in Cambodia as well as the United Statesinvolvement the Vietnam War.
What started as a somewhat peaceful protest, turned very violent. The students at
Kent State set the ROTC building on fire. The local police force was called in

in the Vietnam War (Lewis). Without the announcement from President Nixon, of the

My goals upon graduation, and where I plan working within the social work field.
Growing up I dealt with many forms of abuse, and due to all the trauma I had a lot
of built up aggression. Unfortunately, at the time I felt there was no other way to
express myself except to act out. As a consequence of my bad behavior, I lost
many close friends, and missed many good opportunities. As a result, I was
required to go to intensive family therapy for three days a week, with a women
named Julie. Fortunately, after therapy I saw a change in myself, and I began to

Upon graduating from Heritage University with a Bachelor s degree in Social Work, I

no good evidence that genetic modified itself causes foods to become unhealthy or

Essay on Theories, Assessment, and Treatment of Sex...
INTRODUCTION
Stories of sex offenders have been increasingly a focus of attention by the criminal
justice system over the past years. By legal definition, a sex offender is a person
who is convicted of a sexual offense (Sex Offender Law Legal Definition), an act
which is prohibited by the jurisdiction. What constitutes as a sex offense or normal
/abnormal sexual behavior varies over time and place, meaning that it also varies by
legal jurisdiction and culture. In the United States of America, for example, a person
can be convicted of wide range of sexual behavior that includes prostitution, incest,
sex with a minor, rape, and other sex offenses (Sex OffenderLaw Legal Definition).
As the nature of sex crimes have long held the ... Show more content on

Because reduction of the likelihood of offender recidivism in the future is clearly a
priority, the criminal justice system has begun to look into the effectiveness of
treatment programs. The following body of research further discusses the purpose
and effectiveness of different treatment methods that can be employed by
psychologists with the intention of rehabilitating sex offenders.
THEORIES
There has been much debate about why people commit sexual crimes. As far as to
what causes people to become sex offenders, there is no real answer to this question.
No single factor can fully interpret why someone commits a sexual offense, though it
is believed that some combination of factors may combine to increase sexual
deviancy dramatically. These factors include biological, circumstantial,
environmental, and sociocultural aspects of the person, describing the development
of abnormal sexual expression through the same mechanisms by which conventional
sexuality is also learned (Terry and Tallon). There are a number of sub theories
which have been designed to explain the onset of sexual deviancy. However, because
no one can pinpoint the dynamics of sexual deviancy, different theories have been
developed to study and account for the development of sexual aggression and
behavior. An explanation of the main theories is offered below:
Sigmund Freud of the Psychodynamic Theory proposed that human beings possess
sexual impulses
Looking For Little Egypt Analysis
Looking for Little Egypt
By Donna Carlton. Bloomington, IN: IDD Books, 1994. 103 pages. $14.95 paperback.
The mystique and murk that shroud the legends and disparate accounts of the
mysterious Little Egypt persona who stirred up much controversy in the United
States around the turn of the 20th century only highlights the significance of the
character in the evolution of the belly dance form, and the perception of it in America.
The story of Little Egypt has traversed cultures and borders. In a quest of discovery,
Donna Carlton has travelled back in time, and spent much of her time trying to
uncover the myth of the so called Little Egypt at the time of the Chicago Columbian

Academic Coaching With Austin Is Going Well Essay
Academic coaching with Austin seems to still be going well. Except for the fact
that he still forgets to meet with me... and we meet at the same time and day of the
week every week. I don t know how to approach this topic with him again because I
already went over it and expressed that I need him to communicate with me about
his absences. I was talking with one of my supervisors about it and she believes that
he needs to be the one making first contact about missing appointments, instead of
just responding when I reach out. He just always seems to have such good excuses.
This week he was at a review session for his midterm. I just needhim to
communicate. I really don t care if we reschedule later in the week but I hate
looking like an idiot when he doesn t show up. This semester we have known that
Austin will struggle in one of his classes, and he took a test and did poorly on it.
Unfortunately, he had the pleasure of finding this out for the first time when he
logged into asulearn in my office. I felt bad. Immediately his demeanor changed and I
could tell that he was upset.
I tried to use this situation to let him know that sometimes crappy situations happen
but that isn t a reason to stop trying. Working with him for a while now has taught
me that he needs to explore multiple options and talk them through with others. So I
had him talk through all of his grades so far, and what he could do with all of the
opportunities he has remaining. For example, in this class he has 11

  • 1. Multiculturalism Essays Writing an essay on the topic of multiculturalism can be both challenging and rewarding. The complexity arises from the vastness and diversity inherent in the subject. Multiculturalism involves the coexistence of different cultural backgrounds within a society, which encompasses various aspects such as ethnicity, religion, language, and traditions. Addressing this multifaceted concept requires a deep understanding of cultural dynamics, historical contexts, and societal implications. One difficulty lies in navigating through the intricate layers of multiculturalism and presenting a well-rounded perspective. It demands thorough research to grasp the historical evolution of multicultural societies, the challenges they face, and the benefits they bring. Additionally, one must delve into the philosophical and ethical dimensions of cultural diversity, examining the balance between preserving individual cultural identities and fostering a sense of unity. Expressing these ideas coherently in an essay requires strong analytical and critical thinking skills. Writers need to synthesize information from various sources, integrate different viewpoints, and construct a clear argument. Balancing objectivity while acknowledging the subjective nature of cultural experiences can be particularly challenging. Furthermore, the writer must consider the ever-evolving nature of multiculturalism, as societies are constantly changing and adapting to new influences. Staying current with the latest developments in multicultural theory and real-world applications adds another layer of complexity to the task. Despite these challenges, writing an essay on multiculturalism can be intellectually stimulating and enlightening. It provides an opportunity to engage with important societal issues, fostering a deeper understanding of the dynamics that shape our interconnected world. In conclusion, tackling a multiculturalism essay demands a blend of research, critical thinking, and a nuanced understanding of diverse cultures. The process may be demanding, but the insights gained and the ability to contribute meaningfully to the discourse on cultural diversity make it a worthwhile endeavor. The Boeing Company Financial Health Introduction The goal of the study is to provide overall financial statement overview of The Boeing Company using the knowledge obtained during the Financial Management course. The main question of the study is how financially well the company is at the moment and what investment expectation it generates on the market nowdays. The Boeing Company background The company was originally founded by William Boeing on July 15, 1916, as The Pacific Aero Products Company . Two years later it was renamed into The Boeing Company , on May 9, 1917. Since that date the company grew and acquired a lot of its competitors, including the McDonnell Douglas in 1997. In comparison to 2008, CGS in 2010 increased only by $1513 million. Boeing s 2010 Gross Profit Margin ratio is comparable with the industry norm of 19,7%. ROA ratio indicates the efficiency with which management has used its available resources to generate income. In 2009 there was a decrease in ROA value, but ROA in 2010 matches the industry average. That means that assets in 2010 were used efficiently. ROS ratio indicates the profitability generated from revenue and hence is an important measure of operating performance. In 2010 return on sales reached the highest value of 5,14%. This indicates that the earning power of the business improved in 2010, but it s still below the earning capacity of an average firm in the industry. Reasons for increase: In comparison to 2008, operational income in 2010 increased by $983 million. In comparison to 2008, sales in 2010 increased by $3381 million. The decline in ROA, ROS, Gross Profit Margin and OIRI in 2009 was caused by the decline in Net Income from $2676 to $1312. In 2009 the company to write off

Reflection On Crime And Crime Over the semester, our class has focused on race, ethnicity, and crime and how it has played a role in why certain individuals are targeted, labeled, and victimized. I want to focus on how the police play a role in this matter and connect it to adolescents getting targeted, labeled and victimized because this is a problem especially in schools. The police and schools use different mentalities when dealing with certain situations, this can create these individuals to believe that there is a separation between the two groups. With certain races, crimes are more likely to be blamed on them, which creates labeling to occur and making the punishment more problematic for the future. Kalief did commit suicide in 2015, he was only 22 years old. Kalief was a victim of losing his childhood, by awaiting trial in prison. Now, look at how the school systems play a role in how they target their victims. School institutions target the children that act out and misbehavior. Those children tend to be children that are African American and disabled youths. These school systems are labeling them as bad , disruptive , and troublesome . When someone becomes labeled, that individual will start believing the words that are said about them. This is called a self fulling prophecy . When youths begin to act out they are then taken out of school, leading them to fall behind in academic classes. Carla Amurao wrote in the article, How Bad Is the School to Prison Pipeline that those who are unnecessarily forced out of school become stigmatized and fall behind in their studies; many eventually decide to drop out of school altogether, and many others commit crimes in their communities , (para. 2). It seems as though these school institutions are steering these children on a path to failure. These children are the victim of
  • 5. Nt1310 Unit 2 Research Papers There are those who are quick to get into the holiday spirit, and there are those who blog angrily about how they saw candy canes on the Wal Mart shelves before Halloween. To satisfy those in the former group, radio stations have been jumping on the 24 hour holiday music train since the mid 1990s. To the disappointment of the latter, the trend is gaining momentum and starting earlier than ever this year. I have never seen a more successful, impactful and sustainable impact on ratings as all Christmas music, said Dan Vallie, a consultant to New Jersey s WEZW FM and other stations across the country. This year, WEZW, also known as Easy 93.1, was the first radio station in the country to start airing 24 hour holiday tunes. They kicked off their nonstop broadcasting two weeks before Halloween. ... This year, Pandora is pushing over 35 holiday themed channels, and Sirius XM boasts 8, with one that is nonstop year round. But the iHeartRadio Network has been plotting their attack all year. President Darren Davis said their all holiday preparation usually begins in August. It s about more than just the songs, said Davis. When you walk into a Hallmark store around the holidays, everything is Christmas the carpet is Christmas, the window decorations are Christmas, it smells like Christmas candles and cookies. That s the environment we try to create with our Christmas radio station. While most radio stations are racing to be the first, one UK station hopes to be the last. Starting today, Birmingham s Free Radio 80s aims to set a new record as the first FM radio station to broadcast nonstop holiday tunes for 33 days
  • 6. Psychological Perspective Psychology The psychological perspective views the illness as being caused by underlying conflicts that are rooted in our brains. Freud believes that events in our childhood can have a significant impact on our behavior as adults. He also believed that people have little free will to make choices in life. Instead, our behavior is determined by the unconscious mindand childhood experiences. (McLeod 2007) Through this thinking, DID is something that is caused by some underlying cause that the person is unaware of. With DID, it is brought on by a certain event or experience and not something that makes its appearance out of nowhere without a cause. People can deal with DID in adulthood and it may not have anything to do with their childhood. One of the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... behavioral approach views the disorder as being brought on by learning it through reinforcements all around us. With the learning perspective it is possible to define the behavior and also measure changes in the behavior. (Mcleod 2013) Behaviorism, as seen in the name, focusses on the behaviors of the person which is seen on the outside of the person, but it fails to examine the inside such as thinking and emotions. What goes on internally is not able to be measured though. Behavior is the result of stimulus response (i.e. all behavior, no matter how complex, can be reduced to a simple stimulus response association). (Mcleod) The multiple personalities is the response to the traumatic event, which is the stimulus. The cognitive perspective is often paired with the behavioral perspective as behaviors are often linked with cognition. As these go together, one type of treatment that is suggested in helping deal with DID is, cognitive behavioral therapy. Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) is a common type of talk therapy (psychotherapy). You work with a mental health counselor (psychotherapist or therapist) in a structured way, attending a limited number of sessions. CBT helps you become aware of inaccurate or negative thinking so you can view challenging situations more clearly and respond to them in a more effective way. (Mayo Clinic

The stereotype is very accurate most twins dress, talk, and look the same. However if you were to meet my sister and I you would never guess we are twins. Lauren, my sister does not resemble me at all. We have different facial features, hair, and personality. When we were very little my mom would dress us alike everyday even our pajamas were the same. I can still remember our mom dressing us for the first day of school. The overalls were a charcoal grey with our favorite little mouse with a pretty bright red bow in her hair. Along with our clothes matching we also had to have our hair fixed into
  • 8. Joy Harjo s The Woman Hanging From The Thirteenth Floor... When creating a persona authors provide an insight into their own lives. Even if an author is not creating an autobiographical persona, they are writing from their experiences, feelings, or memories. For that reason, they are creating something from within. The persona usually conveys a story or provides a message to the reader from the author. Thus, creating a strong persona is essential to the piece of literature to convey its point. Since, the persona is the readers focus. First, the setting of the poem is in east Chicago (Kelly 140). Second, the line she is a woman of children, of the baby Carlos connects with the image she had of the women rocking the baby. (Kelly 140). Throughout the poem, Harjo makes many references to children, which ties them to the children she imagined rocking in the chair. Third, Harjo makes the remark that the women who is hanging from the window could have been in the chair. Harjo puts this idea into the poem by writing, it was in the farther north and she was the baby then. They rocked her (Kelly 140). The women from the poem who is hanging could have been in the chair moments before, remembering when she was a child being comforted. Ultimately, if Harjo had not been a Native American she would not have been at the urban Indian center, which inspired her to create the poem. Native American women and their struggles would not have affected her. However, Harjo says, I always write with especially these women in mind because I want us all to know as women, as Indian people, as human beings, that there is always hope, that we are whole, alive, and precious (Harjo 40). The documentary is prepared and presented by Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, Fifth Estate in February 2016. The film meshes well with the unfortunate miseries that civilians have to endure under the aristocratic regime of President Isaias Afwerki. The film is incredibly mind boggling and captivating in disclosing felonious activities by the Nevsun in collaboration with the Eritrea s government. The film attempts to portray how compromised cooperation between private firms and aristocratic regimes leads to forced labor; abuse of human right and crimes against humanity ( Nevsun In Eritrea: Dealing With A Dictator The Fifth Estate ). The film focuses its attention on the use of forced conscripted military labor. Indisputably, the film highlights the miseries of Eritrean in implausible style. An extensive investigation by the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation highlights how Nevsun, through Segen could have been collaborating with the Eritrean dictatorial regime for cheap labor. Apparently under the military conscriptionEritrea, every man below the age of fifty serves in the army for an indefinite period. Use of conscripted military labor is common especially by colluding with private companies to exploit the civilian. • 10. Literary Techniques Used in The Storm by Kate Chopin This short story was really straight forward until it got to the end, where it had a twist, which made me pick the story to write on. Kate Chopin did an outstanding job using symbolism, but this novel is not for all ages, if you know what I mean. How the setting, tone and theme all tie all together is what makes the story different from the others. Is the storm literal or symbolic? This particular question really stood out and really made me think and analysis the story. For example, the question asks about the storm if it is literal or symbolic. The storm is a super obvious symbol. It s involved in practically every element of the story. First off, it s the title. Second, it plays a huge role in the plot, forming the beginning and the end of the story. It also plays a really important part in the middle by bringing Calixta and Alcee together, pushing them into each other s arms and giving them the time and space to get physical before the world outside returns to normal. Also, the storm is a frightening occurrence in the natural world. Alcee describes it as a cyclone (Chopin 2.13), while Bobinot can tell right away that its sombre, sinister, and threatening (Chopin 1.1). Chopin describes the rain pouring down with a repetition and regularity that suggests rain itself. Of course, it s when all that rain is coming down most passionately and brutally that Calixta and Alcee are also getting more and more passionate; exploring their feelings for one another to the
  • 11. The Long Term And Short Term Memory According to philosopher psychologist William James, memory is a generalized concept that encompasses the long term and short term memory. Kendra Cherry, psychologist expert, defines long term memory as storage of information over an extended period. (Cherry n.d.) An individual s long term memory is structured by a semi permanent chemical and the anatomical hippocampus. The hippocampus is in the center of both hemispheres of the brain and works in accordance with the amygdala to allow information to be imported to form memories. In relation to her research of the long term memory, Cherry also provided information on the characterization of the short memory which is described as, the primary or active memory that presently takes in information. (Cherry n.d.) The thalamus is a large portion of a dual lobed mass of matter that is located under the cerebral cortex. An individual s brain goes through three stages of the retention of information which are: encoding, storage, and retrieval. Our brain codes information in three methods which is through visual, acoustic, and semantic simulation. Encoding means that certain signals are sent to the brain. Storage means that the brain is maintaining information over time. Information is received through the working memory that consist of auditory memory and spatial memory. (Morrin, n.d) Spatial memory captures the visual aspects of the information being presented to the subject. There are two types of rehearsals: maintenance

School Shootings, It Shook The Nation Flooding every major media outlet making headlines across the country are school shootings, it shook the nation when twenty, first graders and six adults were killed by Adam Lanza, a twenty year old man who shot his mother in the head before taking her car and driving to Sandy Hook Elementary. Other schoolshooting have occurred since then and it brought up the issue of guncontrol, some politicians even supported the idea of giving teachers guns to have in the classroom. I am against allowing teachers to have guns in the classroom in the name of protection and security. What is your initial point of view? My initial point of view is adding more guns to a hostile situation by giving teachers guns does not solve schools security issues in trying to keep children safe. Spending valuable money should not go into training teachers on how to use a gun, it should go into educating all staff members and students on emergency drills and lock downs in case of a school shooting. Even upgrading security systems would be more helpful in a hostile situation rather than depending on one person killing another to save everyone. How can you define your point of view more clearly? I can define my point of view more clearly by asking questions that maybe many people have not wanted to ask for the fear of receiving a selfish answer. For example has anyone asked a teacher, even with the training and the gun in your hand are you really ready to kill someone? The state and the school are

Lang uses elements from both Science Fiction and Dystopian film genres, as well as elements of German Expressionism to warn future generations about the dangers of technology and science, human ambition and industrialisation. The science fiction genre typically uses a futuristic setting, feature characters that try to challenge or test the morals and boundaries of human ambition and science, has technology that is incongruous with the time period of release and has a new political and societal structure. The futuristic setting used in Metropolis is based upon New York City, which Lang visited before making the film, the large skyscrapers represent man s ambition and are symbolic of the Tower of Babel, from the Old Testament, which is a story about ambition and rebellion. It is through these motif and techniques that Lang expresses his concerns for the future. Elements such as the use of chiaroscuro, use of reflective surfaces, anthropomorphism and art deco elements (seen in the long shots of the city) are all example of German Expressionism. The use of chiaroscuro in the establishing shot of the city as well as the low key lighting created long, deep shadows being cast across the city scape, which highlighted the grandness of the buildings and also brings to attention the underlying message about ambition. The Robot Maria is an example of anthropomorphism, by giving Maria s human like characteristics to the robot, Rotwang s characterisation is also another science fiction element because of the use of futuristic technology and he also tries to overstep ethical boundaries in creating the Robot Maria. Lang used all of these elements in order to convey his very clear message about the dangers that technological

In his narrative, Equiano shares a similar sentiment as Wheatley regarding a pivotal spiritual transition from darkness to light. On page 65, Equiano is exposed to the concept of Christianity when he sees snow for the first time. He asks his Captain who made the snow, the captain replies, ... a great man in the heavens, called God... (Equiano 65). Then, Equiano recalls his experience going to church. Equiano says, ...I was again amazed at seeing and hearing the service. I asked all I could about it; and they gave me to understand it was worshipping God, who made us and all things (Equiano 65). Nonetheless, Equiano s

Growing up I dealt with many forms of abuse, and due to all the trauma I had a lot of built up aggression. Unfortunately, at the time I felt there was no other way to express myself except to act out. As a consequence of my bad behavior, I lost many close friends, and missed many good opportunities. As a result, I was required to go to intensive family therapy for three days a week, with a women named Julie. Fortunately, after therapy I saw a change in myself, and I began to learn new skills to communicate, and cope with my anger. Although, I ve gone to see many therapists before, Julie was the one counselor that gave me hope, and after meeting her my life has positively changed. This experience of going to family therapy, and meeting Julie has influenced me to want to help other troubled teens who have dealt with abuse. Upon graduating from Heritage University with a Bachelor s degree in Social Work, I hope to start my own private practice, so I can counsel troubled teens. I plan on providing services such as cognitive therapy, employment resources, and family therapy. However, I will specialize in working at risk youth with behavioral problems. In addition, I will continue on with my education, and get a M.S.W in Social Work. I plan on earning my M.S.W. in Social Work at Eastern University, so I can earn a counseling certification. The following body of research further discusses the purpose and effectiveness of different treatment methods that can be employed by psychologists with the intention of rehabilitating sex offenders. THEORIES There has been much debate about why people commit sexual crimes. As far as to what causes people to become sex offenders, there is no real answer to this question. No single factor can fully interpret why someone commits a sexual offense, though it is believed that some combination of factors may combine to increase sexual deviancy dramatically. These factors include biological, circumstantial, environmental, and sociocultural aspects of the person, describing the development of abnormal sexual expression through the same mechanisms by which conventional sexuality is also learned (Terry and Tallon). There are a number of sub theories which have been designed to explain the onset of sexual deviancy. However, because no one can pinpoint the dynamics of sexual deviancy, different theories have been developed to study and account for the development of sexual aggression and behavior. An explanation of the main theories is offered below: Sigmund Freud of the Psychodynamic Theory proposed that human beings possess sexual impulses
