Introduction
• Instructional design is a good career path for teachers that want to transition. Teachers
tend to be best instructional designers because they possess many transferable skills.
• Instructional design is driven by the interests and involvement of our incredible community
of passionate educators and lifelong learners. Switching a career is never easy. It brings a
lot of challenges, confusion, and nervousness. Sometimes, taking a new path can be
exciting and rewarding.
• Instructional designers know how to identify gaps and create meaningful learning
experience.
• As teachers, I am sure you had exposure on cognitive load theory, behaviorism,
constructivism, humanism or connectivism and bloom’s taxonomy.
• Identify appropriate learning approaches
• Design Instructional materials
• Design a curriculum problem or solution
• Conduct a needs assessment

Becoming an instructional designer

  • 3. Introduction • Instructional design is a good career path for teachers that want to transition. Teachers tend to be best instructional designers because they possess many transferable skills. • Instructional design is driven by the interests and involvement of our incredible community of passionate educators and lifelong learners. Switching a career is never easy. It brings a lot of challenges, confusion, and nervousness. Sometimes, taking a new path can be exciting and rewarding. • Instructional designers know how to identify gaps and create meaningful learning experience. • As teachers, I am sure you had exposure on cognitive load theory, behaviorism, constructivism, humanism or connectivism and bloom’s taxonomy.
