• Women safety is one of the major issues in today's world. The world is becoming
so much unsafe for women. In today's world, most of the women are stepping out at
any time from their house for working.
• In last few years crime against women has increased to a greater extent. Women are
harassed not only in the evening or night but also during day hours at home,
working place, shopping etc.
• Around 80% of the women in our country be afraid regarding their safety. In past
decades women usually won’t step out from their house for work, so there was more
safety. But in the recent situation, women's want to be employed and want to work
outside, but there is need a lack of safety.
Introduction
• To help resolve this issue, a GPS based Women safety system is proposed that has
dual security feature.
• This device consists of a system that ensures dual alerts in case a woman is
harassed, or she thinks she is in trouble.
• This system can be turned ON by a woman even, if she thinks she would be in
trouble.
• It is useful because once an incident occurs, she may or may not get the chance to
press the emergency button.
• In a button press alerting system, if a woman is hit on her head from behind, she
might never get a chance to press emergency button, and no one will know she is
in trouble.
Introduction of Embedded System
• An embedded system is a combination of software and hardware, to perform a
dedicated task. Some of the main devices used in embedded products are
Microprocessors and Microcontrollers.
• An embedded system has three components −
1. It has hardware.
2. It has application software.
3. It has Real Time Operating system (RTOS).
• Every embedded system consists of custom-built hardware built around a Central
Processing Unit (CPU).This hardware also contains memory chips onto which
the software is loaded. The software residing on the memory chip is also called the
‘firmware’.
• Overview of Embedded System :
Fig : Basic building blocks of Embedded Systems.
• Embedded system, particularly the memory, has limited resources. It does not have
secondary storage devices such as the floppy disk or CDROM.
• These systems have to do effort against some deadlines. A specific work has to be
done within a specific time. This is called Real Time System.
Hardware Description

Let’s discuss each module in detail,
ARDUINO UNO –
• The Arduino Uno is a microcontroller board, based on the ATmega328 (datasheet). It
has 14 digital input/output pins (of which 6 can be used as PWM outputs), 6 analog
inputs, a 16 MHz ceramic resonator, a USB connection, a power jack, an ICSP
header, and a reset button. It contains everything needed to support the
microcontroller; simply connect it to a computer with a USB cable or power it with a
AC-to-DC adapter or battery to get started.
• A typical ARDUINO UNO board can be used for many applications based on the
coded program. ”UNO” was opted to record the release of ARDUINO software. The
version 1.0 of the Arduino is the reference and now updated to later versions. The first
in a series of USB ARDUINO boards was the UNO board and the reference model
for the Arduino platform.

 ESP8266 (Wi-Fi Module) –
• The ESP8266 Wi-Fi Module is a self-contained SOC with integrated TCP/IP
protocol stack that can give any microcontroller access to your Wi-Fi network. The
ESP8266 is capable of either hosting an application or offloading all Wi-Fi
networking functions from another application processor.
• Each ESP8266 module comes pre-programmed with an AT command set firmware,
meaning, you can simply hook this up to your Arduino device and get about as much
Wi-Fi-ability as a Wi-Fi Shield offers. It is operated at 12 Volts.
• This module has a powerful enough on-board processing and storage capability that
allows it to be integrated with the sensors and other application specific devices
through its GPIOs with minimal development up-front and minimal loading during

GPS receiver and unobstructed line of sight to at least four of GPS satellites. A GPS
receiver calculates its position by precisely timing the signals sent by GPS satellites.
• A GPS tracking unit is a device, normally carried by a moving vehicle or person, that
uses the Global Positioning System to determine and track its precise location, and
hence that of its carrier, at intervals. The recorded location data can be stored within the
tracking unit, or it may be transmitted to a central location database, or Internet-
connected computer, using a cellular(GPRS or SMS), radio, or
satellite modem embedded in the unit.

• Motion sensors are very similar in design to tilt switches; in fact, some tilt switches are
used as motion sensors. The sensor will be in one condition (open or closed) at rest.
• When it is subjected to motion it will continually change state as long as it remains in
motion. Some common applications include anti-theft devices, man-down alarms to
detect non motion, smart appliances to turn off power when not in use and portable
equipment to do the same. The operation voltage is 5V.

Design of Software
Getting Started with Arduino IDE –
• This is free software (evaluation version) which solves many of the pain points for an
embedded system developer. This software is an Integrated Development Environment
(IDE), which integrated text editor to write program, a compiler and it will convert your
source code into HEX file.
• An Arduino IDE Version which can be used for:
1. Writing programs in Arduino IDE
2. Compiling and assembling programs
3. Debugging programs
• Step-1 : Download Arduino IDE Software.
Fig: Downloaded and Installed the Arduino IDE Software.
• Step-2 : Power up your board.
Connect the Arduino board to your computer using the USB cable. The green power LED
should glow.
Fig: USB Cable for Arduino UNO.
• Step-3 : Launch Arduino IDE.
After your Arduino IDE software is downloaded, you need to unzip the folder. Inside the
folder, you can find the application icon with an infinity label (application.exe). Double-
click the icon to start the IDE
• Step-4 : Open a new Project.
• To Open a Existing Project.
• Step-5 : Select your Arduino Board.
To avoid any error while uploading your program to the board, you must select the
correct Arduino board name, which matches with the board connected to your computer.
Go to Tools → Board and select your board.
• Step-6 : Select your Serial port.
Go to Tools → Serial Port menu → COM3
• Step-7 : Upload the program to your board.
Here, Arduino programs are called sketches. The Arduino programmer comes with a ton
of example sketches preloaded.
Now, we must dump the code into the controller through USB cable.
If the upload is successful, the message "Done uploading" will appear in the status bar.
Click to upload a program to the Arduino board, After the code is compiled.
Working
• First, we must give the power supply to our kit. Make sure that all the components must
turned ON.
• The GPS module will take few minutes to turn ON, for getting the fix position of it.
Then, the LED indicator starts blink for every 5 seconds.
Fig: Prototype.
• The Wi-Fi module start searching for devices. Connect the device by using Wi-Fi
network.
• When the device is connected to Wi-Fi network. It generated a unique IP address
of it.
Fig: Connecting to the Host .
• After, we need an Android App for communication.
• Go to Play store > Install ‘TCP Telnet Terminal’App.
• After successfully installed open the app. Enter the IP Address and Port Number of it.
Click the ‘Connect’ Button.
• After, successfully connected the LCD screen will be as shown as below,
Fig: Display Screen of LCD .
Results
• This project, “Women’s Safety system using GIS” is successful in providing safety to
women when she is in danger, and this proposed system would work in two ways. By
pressing the Emergency switch and by using a Vibration sensor when she suddenly
falls due to health conditions like accident or any other.
• Here are the screenshots of our project.
If the vibration sensor sense the vibration, it will activate the buzzer sound. And the
screen will be shown as below,
Fig: Screen when the vibration is detected.
If the Emergency switch is switch ON, it will activate the buzzer sound and also it
activate the electric shock device (Mosquito Killer Bat). And the screen will be shown
as below,
Fig: Screen when the Emergency is detected.
Fig: LCD Display screen if the vibration is detected.
 For GPS location of the person, search the location which is shown on the application
screen.
Fig: Search the GPS Location.
Fig: Track the GPS location of the person.
Advantages
• Police can easily track location of women.
• Reliability device.
• This system is applicable for both indoor and outdoor environment.
• Low production cost.
• Wireless location tracking system.
Future Scope
• We can develop an android application which can show the real time location of
the victim using maps provided by websites like Google Maps, OpenMaps.Org.
• To make tracking even faster we can convert the longitude latitude coordinates to
address using 'reverse geolocation', this will be beneficial for low-cost systems
where receiver is deprived of internet connection.
Conclusion
• This is the “Women security system using GIS/GPS” which is very useful
application mainly for girl’s safety. When we feel that we are in emergency, for
example travelling alone in the Auto/Cab at nighttime we can use this application.
• So that on one click we can send our location to Control station. .In addition to
safety the health condition can also be sent with the location. This system can
overcome the fear that scares every woman in the country about her safety and
security. The application that send online to emergency control station.

  • 3. • Women safety is one of the major issues in today's world. The world is becoming so much unsafe for women. In today's world, most of the women are stepping out at any time from their house for working. • In last few years crime against women has increased to a greater extent. Women are harassed not only in the evening or night but also during day hours at home, working place, shopping etc. • Around 80% of the women in our country be afraid regarding their safety. In past decades women usually won’t step out from their house for work, so there was more safety. But in the recent situation, women's want to be employed and want to work outside, but there is need a lack of safety. Introduction
  • 4. • To help resolve this issue, a GPS based Women safety system is proposed that has dual security feature. • This device consists of a system that ensures dual alerts in case a woman is harassed, or she thinks she is in trouble. • This system can be turned ON by a woman even, if she thinks she would be in trouble. • It is useful because once an incident occurs, she may or may not get the chance to press the emergency button. • In a button press alerting system, if a woman is hit on her head from behind, she might never get a chance to press emergency button, and no one will know she is in trouble.
  • 5. Introduction of Embedded System • An embedded system is a combination of software and hardware, to perform a dedicated task. Some of the main devices used in embedded products are Microprocessors and Microcontrollers. • An embedded system has three components − 1. It has hardware. 2. It has application software. 3. It has Real Time Operating system (RTOS). • Every embedded system consists of custom-built hardware built around a Central Processing Unit (CPU).This hardware also contains memory chips onto which the software is loaded. The software residing on the memory chip is also called the ‘firmware’.
  • 6. • Overview of Embedded System : Fig : Basic building blocks of Embedded Systems. • Embedded system, particularly the memory, has limited resources. It does not have secondary storage devices such as the floppy disk or CDROM. • These systems have to do effort against some deadlines. A specific work has to be done within a specific time. This is called Real Time System.
