Basic life support (BLS) is pre-hospital medical care provided by trained responders in the absence of advanced care. BLS focuses on maintaining airway, breathing, and circulation through techniques like head-tilt chin-lift maneuver, rescue breathing, chest compressions, and use of basic airway adjuncts. BLS is meant to stabilize patients until higher level responders can provide advanced cardiac life support with drugs and other interventions.
