Bacteria can reproduce asexually through binary fission or sexually through conjugation. Binary fission is the process where a single bacteria cell duplicates its DNA and divides into two identical daughter cells, allowing bacteria populations to double in size very rapidly under the right conditions of warmth, moisture, food and other environmental factors. During conjugation, genetic material is exchanged between two bacteria cells through a bridge formed between their cell walls.
