How effective is the combination of your main product and
ancillary texts?
My A2 media studies coursework required me to make a
documentary with an ancillary task of making a radio ad and
a newspaper ad for it. Making a documentary was very
difficult as there is not much that you can control without
ruining the natural features of it, so I decided to use this to
show the unique selling point of my documentary into three
different products. I did this in order to make the audience
more interested in the documentary.
In my opinion, I believe that the combination of both my main
production and my ancillary tasks will help get across the
point I was trying to get across which is that single parents
are not always bad parents, to not judge a book by the cover.
Both my Documentary and ancillary tasks play an effective
role on the audience. Both the ancillary tasks (Advert,
Newspaper Advert and Radio Trailer) and the Documentary
are professional and could be similarly compared to a
professional piece. All sections link with the use of the
ancillary tasks including the same date; time and channel the
Documentary will be premiered on. This is to ensure that
continuity is upheld to maintain a professional status.
Documentary strengths:
It is a clear and cut and has valid points to keep the audiences
interest
Newspaper ad strengths
-It is relevant to the documentary uses logos associated with
the themes used.
-Looks like an advert placed within a Newspaper.
Radio ad strengths
Contains relevant information
-A male voice is used as the voice-over of which is seen to have
more authority than using a female voice.
On a whole I do believe that my final products are the perfect
combination of what was asked of me from the specification
and will please the target audiences of my product.
