‘How effective is the combination of
your main product and ancillary
texts?’
Our media products that we have created as a group come
together as a clear and coherent package as we have
included lots of the same material throughout. We have
made the title clear in each of our products as it is at the
top in our newspaper advert, at the end of our radio advert,
and has screams and sound effects for our title in the
documentary. This is important as it allows the audience to
know the title of our documentary straight away in ways
that they will remember therefore it will get people talking
about our documentary.
The same voiceover is used for both our documentary and
our radio advert; this also links them together and makes
them recognisable to the viewers.
In the radio advert, my group and I
have included snippets of our
documentary to link them together and
let the audience know that they will be
watching if they tune in to watch the
documentary. Its gives the
documentary a tone and informs the
audience on this without giving too
much information, keeping the
audience interested.
The image for our newspaper advert
relates entirely to the topic of our
documentary which is fear. It connotes
fear due to the effects used on the
image and the lighting. Looking at the
image it makes the audience fearful of
what’s to come in the documentary
which fully relates to the genre the
group has chose.
The tone reflected throughout the
media products is fearful as the
sound beds throughout the radio
advert and the documentary are
scary, thrilling sounds and music
from Dexter and The Killing which
are series that are known to be
fearful. The products are therefore
linked via tone.
The radio advert would be broadcasted
on well known radio advert channels
such as Juice and Capital FM therefore
our audience will be reached and our
documentary will be known about on a
large scale. The newspaper advert
would be places in magazines and
newspapers that are viewed by our
target audience.
