Pacemaker
Atrial synchronous Pacemaker
Key-words:
Coronary artery disease,
Mitral stenosis,
Atrial flutter,
Paroxysmal atrial tachycardia,
Atrial fibrillation,
• It is used for young patients with mostly a stable block.
• Used to terminate arterial flutter and paroxysmal atrial
tachycardia and act as temporary pacemaker for atrial
fibrillation.
• The atria activity is picked up by a sensing electrode.
• The detected P wave is amplified and a delay of 0.12sec is
provided by the AV delay circuit.
• This signal is used to trigger resettable multivbrator & the
output is given to the amplifier which produces the stimulus
to the heart.
 If the rate of atrial excitation is too fast or slow or absent
 Fixed rate pace maker (resettable multivibrator) takes action.
 Refractory Period Control circuit will eliminate the problem.
 It will ignore any signal detected from atrial lead within 400
milliseconds.
