This document outlines a lesson plan to teach students the months of the year in order. The teacher will use a song, video, notes, and calendars/posters to engage students. Students will be required to make their own calendar showing the order of months and present a poster of their favorite month. To evaluate learning, the teacher will see if students can recite the months in order by the end of the week, allowing more time if needed. The teacher may revise the plan to spread it out over more time or give students a choice in assignments to avoid overwhelming them.

1. Analyze Learners
My classconsistsof seventeenstudents,all of whomare inthe firstgrade.There are tenboyand seven
girls.Seventypercentof the classiswhite,twentypercentisAfrican-American,andtenpercentis
Hispanic.Thisisalsoa special educationclass, withsevenof the studentshavingmildtosevere
attentiondeficithyperactivitydisorder.
State Objectives:
My studentswillknowthe monthsof yearandknow how to recite theminorder by the endof the
week.Withone hundredpercentdegree of accuracy,mystudentswill demonstrate knowledgeof the
monthsof the yearinorder.I will teachthemthe months of the yearusinga song,video,goingoverthe
monthsusingnotes, andhavingthemmake theirown calendarusingwhatusuallyhappensduringthose
months. I wouldalsouse a postershowingthe monthsof the yearinorderand have it hanginginthe
classroomso theycouldsee iteveryday.Iwouldalsohave themmake a posterof theirfavorite month
and where itfallsinorderinregardsto the other ones.
SelectMethods,Media,and Materials:
I wouldpickthe songand videotohelpthe studentswholearnbyseeingandhearing. Iwouldpickthe
songand the videothatwas the most appropriate forthemtolearnthe monthsof the yearin order.I
wouldalsogive themnotesonthe monthsandthe importantdatesineverymonthtomake it easierfor
themto rememberthe orderof the months. Iwouldmake the posterbefore startingtoteachthe lesson
to my students.Iwouldalsomake sure thatthe postercouldbe seenandthat itwas large enoughand
colorful enoughtogettheirattentionwhentheywerelookingatit.

2. Utilize mediaand materials:
I wouldpreview boththe songandvideotomake sure theywere appropriate toshow inschool.Iwould
make sure that my noteswere accurate and that I couldpull themupon the computerandhave a hard
copy justincase I couldnot. I wouldhave to make sure that mystudentshadaccess to computersand
powerpointtomake theircalendarsandpostersof theirfavorite month.
Require learnerparticipation:
I wouldrequire the studentstomake theirowncalendarof the monthsof the year.Theywouldhave to
presenttheircalendarstothe entire class.Theywouldhave tocreate a posterof theirfavorite month
and alsopresentitto the whole class.Theywouldhave toknow where the monthfell inthe orderof the
monthsas well.
Evaluate and revise:
I wouldevaluate mystudentsbyseeingif theycouldrecite the monthsof the yearinorderbythe end of
week.Icouldgive themmore time if a large majorityof themcouldnotdo this.One thingthat I could
revise aboutmyplanisspreadingitout as to notoverwhelmthe students.Icouldalsogive themthe
optionof choosingtomake a calendaror justpicktheirfavorite month.
