This lesson plan aims to teach 1st grade students, including some with ADHD, the months of the year in order over three days using various engaging activities. Students will create their own calendars, watch a video with a song about the months, and decorate name tags with their birth month. They will line up in different orders to reinforce the months. The teacher will provide models, inspiration from past students, and materials. Students will discuss the months and seasons. Their understanding will be evaluated through the calendars, singing, and lining up correctly. The teacher will assist any students struggling and pair them with peers.

1. Analyze Learners-
Teaching the months of the year to a 1st grade class, Special ed, 10 boys, 7 girls, 70%
white 20% African-American and 10% Hispanic.7 students in the class have mild to
severe ADHD (attention deficit hyperactivity disorder).
State Objectives-
After three days, my class will communicate the months of the year in order by making a
calendar, singing songs, drawing on the Smartboard, seeing calendars from previous
students in Powerpoint, and interacting and lining up based on their birth month with
80% accuracy.
Select Methods-
Students will design their own calendars with the months in order and with spaces for
the days using paper, pencils, and crayons. They may also come up and draw on the
Smartboard and see calendars made by previous students on Powerpoint for
inspiration.
Students will watch a Youtube video with a song to remember the months of the year
and will sing along.
Students will be asked their birth month and will decorate a nametag with their month on
it using the materials from the calendar they made. They will then be asked to line up
based on odds and evens, in order, by season, etc. In the case of seasons, they will be
asked about what they think of that season and to describe that season.
Utilize the Materials-
Before each activity I will go over the materials and their purpose in that day’s
assignments. Each student will receive twelve pieces of paper for their calendar and
have crayons and pencils made available to them at their tables. I will ask them to
create a calendar and show them some that I have made on the Smartboard so they
have a model to work off of. Additional information/inspiration for their calendar will
come in the form of calendars made by previous students presented through
Powerpoint. For the Youtube video, I will tell them what to expect in the video and play it
for them a couple times without them singing. Then I will ask them to stand and sing
along with me. Lastly, for the birth months, I will give each a piece of paper to hold and
ask them to put their month on it and decorate it based on what that season makes
them think of. I will then ask them to line up in the various orders and have them discuss
and share with the class their name tags and what those seasons mean to them.
Require Participation-
This plan will cater to many different styles and get the students involved in what they
are learning. They will be talking and discussing, getting to be creative through drawing
and coloring, get to sing and learn through music, and get to move around the room

2. instead of being stuck at a desk. They will hear me and the video talk about the months,
as well as see the months on their calendars, on my calendar on the Smartboard, on
previous students’ calendars, and in the way they are lined up.
Evaluate and Revise-
Students will be evaluated based on their calendars, their ability to sing along, and how
they are able to line up using their birth months. I will ask them about their birth months
and their calendars as they work and listen to how well they are able to sing the song.
Should my students have questions about the assignment or have difficulty with the
months, I will help them along with their work and will partner them up with those who
are better understanding the material so they can learn from each other.
