ASSURE Assignment- 1
Analyze Learners-
The class of students is a Special Ed. 1st grade class. There are 10 boys and 7 girls. 70% of the
class is white, 20% African American, and 10% Latino. 7 of the students in the class have some
form of ADHD. One of the most important aspects is their competency on the subject. In order
to test this I will begin by asking them questions that show if some of them know the months of
the year or what the months of the year are.
State Objectives-
The first grade students will demonstrate their knowledge of the months of the year through one
of the following: personal recitation to me, singing the song that they learn in class, or by placing
index cards with one month written on each one in order. The students must do this in a timely
manner of no more than 5 minutes with three chances to achieve 100 percent accuracy. This
must occur before next Wednesday (9/9). If the students fail they can try again each day after
until they achieve 100 percent accuracy.
Select Methods, Media, and Materials-
With such a wide range of learning abilities and interests, it is best if I use more than one
method and vary the materials used. The students will use a video, a song, index cards and
paper and crayons/markers. I will also need a computer, Internet connection, and a video
projector.
Utilize Media and Materials-
We will begin the introduction of the months of the year with a video. The video will talk about
each month individually in order to relate it to the students’ lives. (January has snow, April has
a lot of rain, July is an iconic month for summer, and December has Christmas). The video will
also repeatedly say the months over and over, in order to reiterate their order. The next activity
we will learn the song that was taught in the video. We will stand up and dance to make it easier
for the students who cannot sit and focus as long. If need be we can incorporate certain dance
moves that will remind students of each month. After the students have learned the song we will
the students will then divide the students into two groups and have them each draw a certain
month of the year so that they can remember that certain one. The students will then each be
given a stack of 12 index cards, each one having one month of the year written on it with a
picture. The students will be able to freely practice placing the months of the year in order.
Require Learner Participation-
All students will be encouraged to participate in every activity. Together we will all dance and
sing the song. They will also color a picture about their certain month and I will hang them
around the room so the students can feel proud of their work. They will also be encouraged to
practice placing the months in order with the index cards given to them. As we go I will ask each
one of them to place the cards in order so I can check their work and correct them. Through
these methods I can monitor their participation, while making sure that they understand the
concept.
Evaluate and Revise-
One week from the day that we began the lesson about the months of the year I will pull each
student aside and have them show me what they have learned. They can either recite the
months of the year to me, place index cards in order that have the months of the year written on
them, or they can sing the song that they have learned in class.
