Using Assure Method to teach the calendar months to my First Grade Class
A. Analyze Learners:
In my first grade class, I will have many diverse students. The
students will come from different backgrounds and cultures. My
classroomconsists of mostly white males and females. A smaller amount of
the class is either African American or Hispanic. Along with the diversity in
the classroom,some of my students have ADHD. I will incorporate learning
techniques and references to other cultures to ensure every student is
learning properly.
S. State Objective:
A. In my first grade class my students will learn the twelve months of the
year. Every student will recognize the twelve months and recite the months
by the end of the week. B. Students will relate to the twelve months by
holidays associated with different cultures and the four seasons of the year.
C. The class would be using visual aids, hands on materials, reading the
months aloud, and listening to names of the months being recited repeatedly.
I plan to incorporate different learning ideas for everyone to be on the same
track. D.I believe one hundred percent of my classroom will learn and
comprehend the idea of the twelve months of the year by the end of the
week.
S. Select Methods, Media, and Materials:
Some of my students with ADHD may have more difficulty focusing on the
task of learning the twelve months. I plan to incorporate various methods to
help students be successful on the test at the end of the week. Along with the
ADHD students, I will have a class of different races. One method I plan to use
is getting on the students level. I wouldanalyze what capabilities each
student has and then I would have a better concept ofhow to teach the
lesson.I would use hands on materials such as visual aids including
calendars, pictures of the seasons, pictures of the different holidays the
students celebrate, and other related reading material.
U. Utilize Media and Materials:
I may use videos to grab their attention then afterwards have them do an
activity involving the idea. I would use cut out stickers of the months and the
students would have to place the months in the right order. I would also have
the students write and recite the months. Another idea is for the students to
sing and dance to help memorize each of the months. I may also have the

2. students use a web quest that involve many activities for the students. I
believe the students can learn the months out of the year many ways and
incorporating more technology will be helpful.
R. Require Learner Participation:
Getting the students’ attention may be difficult but with different lessons
and incorporating the holidays and events during the year, students will
grasp the idea of twelve months much better. I want my students to be able
to teach me the lesson and show me how they are learning. I will split the
students from various backgrounds and ability’s into several workshops. The
workshops would last about twenty minutes and would involve many
different activities like, picture matching, reading the months, or watching a
fun video that gets the students involved. Once the workshop is done we will
have a class participation discussion about everything they have learned.
E. Evaluate and Revise:
To evaluate or revise my lesson about the twelve months of the year, I
may talk to a more experienced teacher and get their input and ideas. I will
look over my work before teaching the lesson. I don’t want to make any
mistakes while teaching, so preparation is key. I will revise my work to the
best of my ability to understand the struggles the students with ADHD may
have and to include all students from diverse backgrounds.
