An online survey of over 2,000 UK residents was conducted to determine which smartphone people would prefer if cost was not a factor. The iPhone was the clear favorite at 49%, followed by Android at 15% and Blackberry at 13%. Supporting data showed iPhone sales increased significantly in the UK in October 2011 after the release of the iPhone 4S. Younger people aged 18-34 strongly preferred the iPhone and Android over other options, while those over 55 were more likely to choose Blackberry or Nokia. The results suggest the iPhone and Android have a strong future among younger demographics.

Ipsos MORI Poll: The Olympic Effect: August 2012Ipsos UK
Britons say the Olympic Games has had a positive effect on their views of the BBC, the Royal Family and the people of London, according to a new Ipsos MORI post-Olympics poll. A new global survey in 25 countries looking at what issues worry the world. This is the first wave of this monthly survey, which finds that Britons are the most worried out of all 25 countries about immigration and rising extremism. However, Britons are relatively positive about the direction the country is headed in, with 44% saying they think things are going in the right direction.

[Invbots' Insight] Investment Strategy - Apple Inc./iPhone 8Invbots Limited
Since launch 10 years ago, iPhone is among the greatest product ever. However, iPhone shipment growth has slowed significantly in recent years. iPhone shipment declined 8% YoY in FY16 and is expected to increase by only 3% YoY in FY17. Also, Apple Inc.’s business in China faces intense competition and its sales has been declining for 7 consecutive quarters.
Will the new iPhone rejuvenate Apple Inc., the largest listed company in the world, in terms of market capitalisation? Could iPhone8 enable Apple Inc. to gain its market shares back from Chinese handset makers? Is now still the right time to buy Apple Inc.’s shares?
Invbots has worked on an unique research based on proprietary data-points to analyse the potential development of Apple Inc. and its upcoming new iPhone. We are happy to share with you some of our research highlights and our crafted investment strategies.

10 Social Media Thoughts for Integrated MarketingBryan McCarty
A presentation I gave at Wartburg College on November 22, 2011 at Wartburg College in Waverly, Iowa. The presentation was an open discussion about social media and integrated marketing.
New Research from the Edison Research / Arbitron Internet and Multimedia series on how Americans use Smartphones. Included are insights on mobile commerce, mobile social networking and other mobile-enabled behaviors.
After years spent in labs, experimenting with obscure and prototyped voice-driven intelligent systems, HCI research was given a nice present - a working system in the pockets of millions around the globe. Everybody knows Siri, many talk about it, some say they use it, but actually very little do we know about the reality here. It was about time to ask real users in the real world whether they use Siri, how and why. A combination of a globally distributed online survey and interviews brought up an interesting data, which might be useful for the design and application of similar systems, not only in a mobile context.

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

A Strategic Approach: GenAI in EducationPeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

AskVC: If money were no object which phone would you like iPhone, Blackberry, Android, or Nokia?
1. If money were no object which would you prefer Android,
iPhone, Blackberry?”
AskVC is a free service. Questions shouted out on Twitter, using the #AskVC hashtag, are reviewed and the
winners asked as part of Vision Critical’s UK omnibus.
This question was asked 25 November, 2011, with a base just over 2000 people. If you’d like to know more
about Vision Critical’s omnibus or online field services please contact will.cooper@visioncritical.com.
2. If money were no object which phone would you prefer?
Data table on next page, fieldwork Nov 25, 2011
We asked our sample of UK residents, if money were no object which would be your dream phone. As the
table below illustrates, the iPhone was the runaway winner.
Option Choice
iPhone 49%
Android 15%
Blackberry 13%
Nokia 12%
Other 4%
None 6%
Sample November 25, 2011, N=2032, Vision Critical Omnibus, UK
Support for this high figure for the iPhone is provided by an article in the Guardian (28 November, 2011) which
reported that in October 2011 sales of the iPhone had soared in the UK, following the release of the iPhone 4S.
The Guardian reported that the iPhone took 43% of smartphone sales in October, with smartphones being about
70% of all phone sales in that period.
The AskVC study suggests that if money were no object (not too likely in the short term with the current economic
climate) then the iPhone would be a clear leader in the UK market.
In terms of region, sex, and social class the aspirations of the British public were very similar, i.e. with iPhone being
dominant and Android, Blackberry, and Nokia being very similar. However there were very interesting differences
by age and these are explored on the next page.

3. Is the future iPhone and Android?
Younger people back the iPhone and Android
It is almost a truism in mobile phones that trends spread from the younger to the older. When the patterns in
the AskVC data were explored a striking picture was revealed. The iPhone, and even more so the Android
platform, were much more popular with younger people than with older people. By contrast, Blackberry and
Nokia were more popular with the over 55s, as illustrated in the two charts below.

Whilst only 8% of those aged over 55 years said they would choose an Android phone (if money were no
object) this rose to 26% amongst those under 35. The iPhone similarly scored much lower amongst those
over 55 years. By contrast, Blackberry, Nokia and those saying they would prefer not to have a phone all
scored best amongst those over 55 years and least well amongst those under 35 years. If the history of
mobile phone trends is any guide, being popular with the over 55s and unpopular
with younger people will create significant challenges. 3
