2. Gender
• We believe that in the past the majority of those
interested in the thriller genre have been male, therefor
we have tried to attract more potential female audience
members by making our antagonist a young girl.
3. Conventions
• We also believe our opening scene teaser as with the
convention of the genre creates suspense and
excitement which will attract many viewers.
• Overall we attempted to draw people in by trying to sell
them a thriller with traditional conventions but with
certain twists. So we would appeal to fans of the genre
but add something new for people who were tired of the
archetypal thriller titles.
4. Age
• We made the characters to be young, so we attract a more
youthful audience. The ages we aimed to market towards
were 15-30 this is why we made the certificate a 15 so more
people could see it than if it was an 18 rated title. Some
conventions of a 15 rated film include strong violence, strong
language, sexual activity, sexual nudity and drug taking.
Although these aren’t prevalent in the opening sequence
throughout the film there would be drug taking and strong
bloody violence within the film, this idea is also shown in the
beginning as she looks at the mushrooms which implies she
is under the influence of magic mushrooms. The bloody
scenes of the boy in the shelter was also bloody which may
effect the younger audience therefore they’d need to be
protected from this.
