The document discusses research conducted to determine the target audience for a film opening. A questionnaire found that ages 16-18 was the main target age group. However, the document notes that a wider audience from ages 16-26 would be better to appeal to more people. Characteristics of teen and young adult males are described, including liking action and loud music. The film opening was designed with these traits in mind using bass music, bold graphics, and a plot with tension. The final decision was to target ages 16-26 males who typically enjoy action and violence.
2. Before actually starting to plan out what we
will do for our film opening, we carried out
some research to first of all find out who we
will mainly be aiming out opening of a film at
and what people like to see within an action
film opening by sending out a questionnaire.
3. The main question to help us
when finding our target
audience was ‘How old are
you?’
As you can see by the results
of the graph, the main age
group we are targeting at is
ages 16-18. Although we
will use this as a base target
audience, I feel that still
widening our audience will
be a better way because then
we can appeal to more and
more people and not just one
set age group.
4. When deciding to find out who my target audience
would be, I discussed with the rest of my group
different ways in which we can find out who they
will be…
We cam up with the ideas of a Focus Group or a
Questionnaire
Both of these had its positives and negatives (see
blog) but found that a questionnaire would be me
suitable for us because we can get the answers of
the questions we need to know straight away
without worrying about going off task.
5. Teen Male –
Teen males are stereotypically known for thriving off
of action films and known to be the ones who most
action films are targeted at.
They are known for liking heavy upbeat music and like
the loud and dramatic scenes what feature in films.
The like the fast pace and the loud volume and the
thrill what action films provide.
Media plays an important role in a teenagers life and
films become more and more watched the older they
get as the parental restriction reduce each time they get
older meaning they can watch more violent films if
they wish
6. The way we related out opening to attract the
teen male audience was by…
Sound – using bass like music and sound effect
to build up the tension
Text – The text we use was big and bold and in
dark colours to not only attract the eye but
because big and bold text normally relate to the
male figure
Plot -
7. Yong male adult…
Young male adults are not very stereotypically
different from teen males. They are known as
to tend to watch more films than teen and with
young adults, there is always a connection with
a type of media in their lives, whether it is films
or reading, media plays an important role in a
young adults life as they go through the
changes as they leave university or start to
consider the next steps in life
9. The way I have made sure my opening appeals
to the target audience I have chose to aim for is
by asking certain questions on a questionnaire
of what we want to know.
We asked different questions such as…”What
kind of colour schemes would you like to see in
a feature film?’ This question helped us get the
opinions of different people.
10. The intention for our audience to watch our
opening is with other people.
The plot of our film has a lot of tension and action
throughout just as our opening suggests so
watching it with other people would help that
tension arise more with more people around and
get more of a reaction from them.
When watching a film with a larger group of
people, having the other around help move the
emotion and reactions around the room and in a
way each emotion from each person supports
another persons.
11. Our final decision was that we would aim our
opening of our action film to the ages 16-26
males because we feel males this age are the
ones who thrive of the action and tend to enjoy
the explosions and the violent scenes more.
The discussion what cropped up was about
male and female. We decided to aim it at just
the male genre because males are
stereotypically known for liking violence, gore
and harsh topics
