2. TargetAudience
Our film was created to be aimed at 15-18
year old's both male and female and we
believe that our film created was correctly
aimed at this target audience.
We chose this target audience based on
the films we researched, such as Silent
Hill who all aimed their films at
approximately the same target audience.
3. Howwasmyaudienceaddressed?
The ways in which I addressed my target audience was through a focus group,
this was done by emailing individuals who had volunteered to give feedback on
my production and later sending them a ‘Google Form’ (questionnaire) to fill out.
I decided to produce a questionnaire because it’s an efficient and cheap way to
get primary research. It also meant that my focus group was able to do it in their
own time as well as give more in depth and honest answers; in which they may
not have done via interview-type situations.
5. Gender
On this graph we see the results on the first
question: “What is your gender?”
The graph shows that 60% of the focus group were
female, looking into the following questions I found
that majority of the people who answered ‘horror’
being their favourite genre was all men, and only
33% of females answered horror. This may show
that we should target the production towards men
aged 15 to 19, instead of both genders of age 15-19
6. Age
This bar chart shows that the people who took
the questionnaire was between the ages 15
and 19 years old, this was somewhat good and
bad.
This age range was our target audience which
meant it was good to receive feedback from
the people we were aiming our production at,
however we had no way in knowing if older or
younger people would have found our
production more entertaining than those of this
age range.
7. Whatisyourpreferedgenreoffilm?
We see from the pie chart that 60% of the
people questioned, liked horror movies. All
from the age group 15-19 year olds. This
means that the initial target audience of 15-18
was the correct path to go down.
However the sample size were all aged 15-19.
8. InDepthAnswer
“I think people my age
would really enjoy
this, I know my friends
and I would go see it
in the cinema if a full
film was made. It has
the right amount of
suspense, and that
creepy voice at the
beginning and the end
really got me into it.”
Reading through the answers, I found that quite
few that gone into much depth. However I found
this quote from one of the people in the 15-19
age range. This backs up the idea that the use
of dolls and/or children have become the go-to
horror character and because of this it scares
the audience, builds the feeling of tension and
suspense.
9. Conclusion
Overall I feel like I have chosen the correct demographic group, as teenagers tend
to be attracted to things more modern and popular. Knowing this from the
research stage it helped make my production, as when just talking to my friends
they found films like Mama and Sinister quite intriguing. The key similarity
between these films are the roles children play, often being the antagonist.
Thinking about this further, I plan on sticking with the chosen target audience,
however my secondary audience would be people in the young professional
stages of their lives (21+).
