Revelations Of Divine Love (Chapter 5)
Journal Log: Revelations of Divine Love (Chap. 5 6)
Author Background: Julian of Norwich was an English anchoress and an important Christian mystic
and theologian. She wrote Revelations of Divine Love around 1395. These texts were the very first
theological writings in the English language known to have been written by a woman. Julian was also
known as a spiritual authority within her community, where she also served as a counsellor and
advisor. Her writings indicate she died around 1416, but continues to be honored today due to her
impact in the Christian/Catholic (religious) society.
Summary: Within Chapter 5 Julian describes how she started to realize how grand of a person God
was in our lives. She explains how she sees him as everything

INTRODUCTION
The question most firefighters have, Are trusses with no gusset plates as safe as trusses with gusset
plates while being exposed to a fire?
Pre engineered wood trusses are designed by truss engineers for light weight construction. The use of
metal plate connected trusses in construction is popular because of cost effectiveness, versatility, and
ease of construction. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Also, the metal truss plate reflects some of the heat away from the wood slowing down the charring
process.
The disadvantages of a metal gusset plate s behavior while being exposed to extreme heat conditions
from a fire include th fact that the galvanized metal gusset plate s teeth do not penetrate the wood all
that deep. The wood the plates are connecting, have a charring rate of 1/40 inch per minute. The truss
plate s teeth have a minimum depth of 3/8 inch. So during a typical fire, the wood will lose 3/8 inch of
its body in approximately 15 minutes leaving the teeth of the metal truss plate completely exposed.
This will then cause the metal truss plate to fall off allowing that joint to lose its integrity. Once a joint
on a truss is compromised, the weight it previously carried will be transferred to the next closest
joints. These joints in return can not carry the additional load while being exposed to the fire causing
them to lose their integrity resulting in a complete failure of the truss assembly. Whereas, the adhesive
used for the glued finger jointed truss will maintain its structural integrity longer than the truss
members.
Another disadvantage of the metal gusset plate is that a gap up to 1/8 of an inch is allowable. This gap
between members of the truss system members will allow heat and flame to get to the back side of the
metal gusset. When this happens, the wood member will char deeper and faster thus causing less of

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Engineered Wood
It is a firmly held belief that hardwood floors are the ultimate in class and sophistication. Regardless
of the type of hardwood used, whether it is ash, oak or maple, wood floors have always maintained
their timelessness and adapted to the changing decors. While traditional hardwood floors are superior
natural floorings, they have certain limiting factors which do not allow their installation in all the areas
of the house, and there are certain regions of the world where such floors are considered thoroughly
impractical. Their higher cost of procurement and installation are some other prohibiting factors which
have given rise to cheaper options like laminates and vinyl, which are wood look alikes but made of
resins and plastics.
Engineered wood is a relatively newer option which is wood yet does not have the disadvantages of
hardwood. It has gained popularity as a worthy alternative to hardwood floors and in the last few years
more and more owners have chosen engineered wood floors to make their homes beautiful. To know

Another advantage of choosing engineered wood is that it is available in prices ranging from low to

expensive will be the price per square foot. The engineered wood has a life varying between 20 to 100

Similarities Between Sparta And Athens
Abstract:
Ancient Greece was made up of a number of sovereign city states, each one responsible for governing
itself and establishing its own form of government. The two most renowned of these were Sparta and
Athens Sparta for its military prowess and its campaign to usurp other smaller city states, and Athens,
renowned for its cultural influence on the world at large, from architecture and philosophy to art and
language. This paper looks at the different systems of government in the city states and how each one
influenced the status of the state.
Keywords: Monarchy, Aristocracy, Tyranny, Oligarchy, and Democracy
Introduction:
There four main forms of government that existed in Ancient Greece were monarchy
(rule of one), oligarchy (rule of a few), tyranny (rule by force) and democracy (rule by many).
Aristocracy in the context of this paper, was not so much a system of government but more of a
hierarchy which allowed a citizen to rule. It was rare to find a commoner rising through the ranks to
become a leader leaders were more often than not picked from the aristocratic class, those who by
birth or social standing, became the elite of society.
Monarchy:
Monarchy is typically defined as rule by one person, often through birth right, who rules until death
(in extreme cases a monarch can be deposed), wherein the first born son takes over the monarchy. The
monarch a king or a queen in Ancient Greece, would have been an absolute ruler, meaning that their
rule was law

Symbolism In Secret Window, Secret Garden By Stephen King
In the gothic novella, Secret Window, Secret Garden, by Stephen King, the author uses mirrors as
symbols to distinguish between reality and the imaginary. Whenever King references mirrors, Mort
struggles with grasping actuality, thus Mort creates his own reality that deteriorates his mental state
and ultimately his life. For instance, Mort believes that shooter is in his house, yet ironically Mort was
not Shooter he was afraid of , but rather he was afraid of finding nothing , because internally, Mort
knows that Shooters existence is simply an illusion (391). As Mort goes around the house looking for
Shooter, he approaches the bathroom and looks into the mirror and realizes that the reflection of the

Young Adult Trope
It s undeniable that Young Adult (YA) fiction is one of the biggest, and best selling genres in literature
right now. Over 10,000 YA books came out in 2012 alone. The genre s popularity most likely comes
from a very wide variety of audience members. Many people would define YA as books for people
from 15 to 18 years old, but the fact is, far more than just those in this age range read these books.
Readers of all ages have fallen in love with YA fiction and it has a huge following of teens and adults
that has led to its exponential growth. This genre has evolved over time, developed a variety of tropes,
and has a few books/series that have shaped the modern understanding of the genre.

But what exactly is a trope? Well, a trope is basically just a familiar (or overused) element whether is
be in character, setting, or story. Sometimes a trope is better known as a cliche. There really are many,
many cliches out there, and Young Adult fiction is no exception. Some examples of tropes are the love
triangle, the chosen one, instant love. These and many others are often staples in YA fiction. One
important factor to remember about YA books is that that, generally speaking, the majority of your
reading demographic will be female, and this leads to more female protagonists. Modern writers want
to avoid making their characters damsels in distress because of flack given to these kinds of characters
in the past. An effort to avoid this can lead the female character can fall into archetypes that feel
cliche. The Strong Independent Woman is one that appears a lot. The name is pretty self explanatory.
The issue is that these three words are often the character s only traits. Strong characters are great, but
when it feels generic, and your character is boring, that s a problem. One character cliche that gets a
flack is the Mary Sue . This is the girl who is inexplicably good at everything. This is another one that
comes from wanting to make the female characters

Consent And Rape Culture
Consent And Rape Culture: College Campus Nightmares
One in five college students will experience sexual assault during their college career as of 2014 (Best
Colleges). Sexual assault is the umbrella term used to describe any unwanted/forced sexual activity. It
is an entirely huge problem, and has only been strengthened by the rapid development of rape culture.
Sexual assault has become a dominant problem on college campuses across the world. Many believe
that this is due to the prevalence and encouragement of rape culture among young college students.
The ever increasing number of sexual assaults on college campuses, which is extremely alarming, can
also be credited to the fact that students are not taught about the rules of consent, and ... Show more

(Harris). Basically, the majority of students that Harris came into contact with and who were taught
about sexual consent in college ended up having more questions than answers because of how unclear
those lessons were. There is also a chance that sexual assaults that take place on campus are not being
reported to the heads of the college at all. Lack of reports cause the scale of the actual problem to be
down sized, doing extreme harm to the solving of the problem. ... as a worker, the alert system has not

assaults happening on campus (Harris). In other words, college admins may not even know that sexual
assault is a problem on campus because those sexual assaults are not being reported. Lack of reports
means lack of awareness, and it is 10 times harder to solve such a issue without being aware of it.
Another disheartening dilemma when it comes to the high rate of sexual assaults on campus is that
colleges may be covering up those assaults to keep their image clean. According to Harris, I haven t

How Different Gender Will Affect The Reaction Rate Of 13

INVESTIGATION: REACTION TIMES.
BY CAITLIN DAWSON
TITLE: How different gender will affect the reaction rate of 13 to 17 years olds.
ABSTRACT: This investigation entailed the study of wether gender will affect the reaction times
when tested. The average visual reaction time for a human is 0.25 seconds (250 milliseconds) and the
average touch reception is 0.15 seconds (150 milliseconds), adding both these figures gives and
estimated group time of 0.40 seconds (400 milliseconds). The average reaction speed for the boys was
342 and the average reaction speed for the girls was 392, in relation to average reaction speed these
results are quite accurate as the age bracket was younger and smaller than the expected averages for
humans. This investigation is well related to society as the measurement of visual reaction time has
been used to evaluate the processing speed of Central Nervous System and the co ordination between
the sensory and motor systems, when shown a visual stimulus.

INTRODUCTION: Reaction time plays a very important role in our lives as it determines our every
day life, factors that can affect the average human reaction time including age, gender, exercise/
health, distractions, height etc. Reaction time is a measure of how quick organisms can respond to
types of stimulus, e.g visual or auditory. A reflex is a rapid, automatic response to a change in the

Sandro Botticelli s Annunciation
In Sandro Botticelli s The Annunciation, 1485, the biblical scene of the angel Gabriel greeting Mary is
shown. The angel tells Mary she is expecting a child that is the Son of God. Botticelli s uses space in
The Annunciation to separate Mary and the angel Gabriel as well as combine the space for a
completed scene. The scene takes place inside a church. Mary is on the right side in an private chapel.

Again, Mary is on the right side on the painting. Botticelli is using the biblical motif to foreshadow
Christ being born. Christ is the right hand of God, so even the annunciation of his coming must be
holy and divine. While there is no bible evidence, many believe the angel Gabriel sat at the left hand
of God. Rabbi David Cooper says the angel is connected with the attribute of Gevorah on the left side
of the Tree of Life. Whereas Michael is on God s right hand, Gabriel is on God s left hand. The left
hand is the one that metes out punishment; the right hand overrules strict justice and is more merciful
and thus more lenient (p. 45). Botticelli seems to agree with the theory of Gabriel sitting at God s left
hand by the placement on the angel. While the does have a column directly diving the space, the gaps
between the columns and the walk way into the chapel combines the two sections. Botticelli seems to
be inferring for the angel to walk into the chapel and see Mary. The figures are also bowing toward
one another. Not only are they bowing because they are in the house of God, but they seem to
acknowledge one another in their bowing. If one would draw a line of the figures line of vision the
lines would intersect at the walk way between the columns. Therefore while Mary and Gabriel are in
different rooms of the church they can see and are interacting with one

Ethical Issues with the Ncaa
There are several ethical issues in the news lately about the treatment college athletes are receiving
compared to the non athletic students of universities. Is the practice of favoring athletes and bending
the rules in the favor of universities to enable the best college sports stars to play ethical? Two major
ethical issues that have been in the public eye as of late is cheating and grade tampering, and
recruiting tactics. Both of these actions are unethical, but it still isn t stopping universities around the
country to discontinue in these manners. Cheating and grade tampering is not allowed in any way for a
normal student of a university. Why are teachers and administrators helping and giving alternate
academic options to athletes? ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I don t know many guys my age who could refuse that situation. But in reality, those recruiting tactics
are not morally correct. Not only is it not fair to other schools looking for their next sports star, but
athletes will be coming to a university for all the wrong reasons. In conclusion, it is a fact that athletes,
especially at larger universities across the country get special treatment in regards to academic issues
and lifestyle. Universities will go to any extent to protect their players from being academically
ineligible to play, and seems they will do anything to get the best recruits in the country to give their
team an advantage. It is hard for the NCAA to enforce strict rules, especially academically because
schools have academic freedom which enables universities to make their own classroom policies. The
NCAA asks, If a certain institution permits grade changes for students up through and even after the
final exam, how do you hold athletes to a different standard? In reality, it is almost impossible to hold
athletes to a different standard, and as long as this loop hole exists, colleges will be using any method
enticing athletes to come to their school and continue to play through their college career, regardless
of their academic status. It is unethical, but until NCAA rules change, who can dictate these
procedures are not allowed?

The Psycho Analytic Perspective
My life is a story of the self realization of the unconscious. Everything in the unconscious seeks
outward manifestation, and the personality too desires to evolve out of its unconscious conditions.
Carl Jung The author of the lines mentioned above, Carl Gustav Jung, is one of the major contributors
of the Psycho Analytic perspective of understanding personality. Jung who was born in Kesswil,
Switzerland, in 1875, was a very close associative of Sigmund Freud. The duo shared a lot of common
ideas and thoughts beginning from their first meeting at Freud s office in Vienna, after a period of
mutually admiring correspondence. But, In the course of time these discussions revealed a small crack

Like all psychoanalysts, Jung recognized that personality contains both conscious and unconscious
elements. Like Freud, Jung referred to the ego when describing the more conscious aspects of
personality. His description of the unconscious, though, differed from Freud s id and superego
structures. Furthermore, he did not seek to increase the role of consciousness in personality and to
minimize unconscious influence, as did Freud. Rather, Jung sought a balance in which unconscious
elements were given an equal role, complementary to that of consciousness Jung s description of
personality types is one of the more straightforward aspects of his theory. Among other things, it helps
explain why some people seize on his descriptions of mystical and mythological experience with
enthusiasm, while others dismiss them as non scientific nonsense. The difference depends on a person
s psychological type, that is, the person s grouping based on Jung s three major dimensions of
personality. The three dimensions are introversion versus extraversion, thinking

A Literary Analysis Of Atonement By Ian Mcewan
Atonement
Published in 2002 by Ian McEwan, Atonement presents readers with a story of love and war,
childhood and class, guilt and forgiveness (McEwan back cover). In this narrative, a ripple effect of
unfortunate events occurs after a thirteen year old girl named Briony falsely accuses someone of
raping her cousin Lola. Through the character s actions, the readers come to understand that one
cannot change the past, even if they seek atonement with the highest amount of effort. Ian McEwan
does an excellent job of presenting this theme by shifting through different perspectives, using
symbolism, and showing the metamorphosis of the characters, specifically in Briony. Over the course
of McEwan s perspective shifting narrative, we find characters, ... Show more content on

The theme and truth is that there was an absence of atonement in Atonement (Pastoor 1) and the
recognition that one could attempt to achieve it, but might never actually get there. One cannot change
the past or justify one s actions in the process of obtaining atonement. However, one can try to do the
right thing and learn from one s mistakes, and even pass on those mistakes so that others do not
imitate them just like how Briony wrote about the consequences of her mistakes in her novels. She
was not selfish enough to give herself a happy ending by letting Cecilia and Robbie forgive her, but
she gave Cecilia and Robbie a happy ending. If Robbie and Cecilia are dead, as many readers presume
from Briony s statements, then let their deaths not be in vain through her stories, but if they are alive,
then it would be ideal for them to read her story and truly forgive her for this might be the closest and
only way to obtain some sort of

Essay on Liberation Theology in Latin America
The populist governments, seen in the 1950 s and 1960 s in South America, spurred industrial growth
and a sense of consciousness amongst the inhabitants of the Latin American countries. The industrial
growth greatly benefited the middle class and the working class; however, the poor were driven into
shantytowns and rural areas. To illustrate the great poverty of this time in Latin America, people living
in shantytowns resided in vast settlements built of cardboard and other available materials such as
metal and sheets of plastic. These towns frequently lacked proper sanitation. One could imagine how
living in these shantytowns would degrade the human spirit and foster a sense of worthlessness. The

problems
(1) Technology and Security issues (2) Legal issues and (3) Regulatory and Supervisory issues
The problem here is that since theOne would think that the main purpose for a bank besides managing
one s money would be giving good customer service. Excellence in customer service is the most
important tool for sustained business growth. Customer complaints are part of the business life of any
corporate entity. This is more so for banks because banks are service organizations. As a service
organization, customer service and customer satisfaction should be the prime concern of any bank.
Banks believe that by providing prompt and efficient service on to their customers, this is essential not

Adjuvants In Vaccines
The viruses that cause tumorigenic transformation produce oncoviral antigens. These antigens are
recognized by the immune system as non self because they are present on infected cells (Saxena and
Bhardwaj 2017).
Neoantigens, which are MHC restricted antigens, are produced by mutations in tumor cells so they are
not found on all tumors. Because neoantigens are unique to the individual, vaccines that target these
antigens need to be personalized (Saxena and Bhardwaj 2017).
Finally, antigens that are over expressed significantly in tumor cells compared to normal cells are
simply known as overexpressed antigens (Saxena and Bhardwaj 2017).

Some New Adjuvants
Nanoparticles are a recently developed type of adjuvant that help vaccines access the lymph nodes.
These nanoparticles can allow the vaccine to be directly deposited into the lymph node, activating
DCs and CTLs via intranodal injections. Nanoparticle vaccines may also reach the lymph node by
lymphatic drainage. In the lymph node, CD8 CTLs are produced by cross presentation of lymph node
DCs (Saxena and Bhardwaj 2017). Nanoparticle vaccines could be vital for the future of cancer
treatment.
Another new type of adjuvants are self polymerizing scaffolds. They incorporate TLR agonists and
peptide antigens. This allows the molecule to remain water soluble at room temperature unlike TLR
agonists. The scaffolds undergo temperature dependent self polymerization which makes
immunogenic particles water soluble. These particles are drained to the lymph node where they
activate DCs (Saxena and Bhardwaj 2017).
Albumin binding agonists are effective because of the abundance of albumin in the blood and lymph.
Vaccines with albumin binding agonists have TAAs with lipid tails that have a high affinity for
albumin. Once bound, the vaccine is taken to lymph nodes. This vaccine type is known to safely
advance CD8 CTL activation (Saxena and Bhardwaj 2017).
Oncolytic viruses can also be used as vaccine adjuvants in oncolytic virus therapy, also known as
virotherapy. This can

Comedy has asserted its dominance as one of the most popular and effective genres of film in
American cinema ever since the conception of motion picture. With its exaggeration and stylization of
plot and characters, comedy films effectively show the discrepancy between reality and idea to create
a comedic effect for the viewers. Through the annals of time, historical events and cultural turning
points have shaped the genre, allowing it to evolve and diversify. As a result, comedy is now bolder,
more risque, and more provocative. While there are several factors that contributed to this
transformation, none was more impactful than the abolishment of the Hays Code (or the Motion

Even though it was expected of children to work, some parents did not want to send their children to
work. Parents really only sent their children to work for an extra income to help the family out of
poverty. Poverty is the main reason that children are sent to work. The following is the definition of
poverty, Poverty is the inability, through lack of income or wealth, to provide decent housing,
clothing, health care, nutrition, or education for oneself or one s family. (Riggs 1). Because parents
were desperate for money they would take their children s names off of the school list when education
became required (Carson 1). Parents would also feel obligated to give their children permission to
work and bring in a small amount of money, but much needed funds. It was also an expectation that
children could provide a profitable benefit for their families. When the nation began to industrialize,
the types of jobs shifted from farm work to factory work. The jobs that children held would change as
they became older and more difficult so that in the end they would have more skills. At that time,
many believed that children should work because it helped them develop a strong work ethic. Many
employers took advantage of children; parents found it difficult to keep their kids away from hard
labor because the additional income was crucial to the family s survival (Benson 2). This was a real

War on Drugs is a Domestic Problem Essay
WAR ON DRUGS IS A DOMESTIC PROBLEM
The new policy that the government has unfolded on the War on Drugs, has pointed the finger of
responsibility toward stopping terrorism by stopping the individual drug users. Terrorism affects the
entire world, and the United States has assumed a position at the spearhead to confront it. There is no
way to actually stop terrorism, but one way to financially divert the problem is to stop the money from
flowing to the organizations.
The War on Drugs has been taken to a new level since the attack on the United States in September.
Just two days before the attack in New York and Washington D.C. a shipment, being distributed by the
Columbians, of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The War on Drugs to stop terrorism is a problem for both foreign and domestic. There are three steps
that must be taken to compete against the War on Drugs. First the drugs must not be harvested. This is
not an easy task, especially in the Bolivian region where the economy relies heavily on the farming of
the coca leaves. With a region that relies so heavily on the crop, stopping the production and
distribution of the illegal substance will not come easily.
The second step is to stop to trafficking of illegal products at the United States borders. The majority
of illegal drugs are not grown in America; they are grown out of country and then smuggled in country
for sale and distribution. As a large consumer of illegal drugs, the United States must take are a
stronger position against the drug traffickers from moving the products into the country.
The final step that needs to be taken is to make every worldwide citizen aware of what is going on.
Education is the key to success, and if the populations of the world are made aware of how terrorism
can be stifled By stopping the use of drugs everywhere then the majority will be compelled to report
illegal activity. There is a misunderstanding in the United States that the drug user is not hurting
anyone but himself. This train of thought

I had the first idea about Ninoy Aquino when I was in grade school. We always observe a national
holiday during his death anniversary which is celebrated every 21st of August. Before, I just knew that
he is our national hero and that he is a guy wearing thick glasses, his face can be found printed on a
500 peso bill and that an airport was named after him. But through the years, I started to learn that he
was just more than that. I learned that he was a senator and is on the opposition side during the Marcos
regime, was the number one bet for Presidency but was assasinated as he went home from the states.
He died to fight for the Filipinos. As part of our second long exam in History 1 at school, we were
asked to watch the documentary film about Ninoy s death. For the first time, I was more clarified and I
understand it more after watching the film. It pains me a lot because after more than three decades, the
gunman or the mastermind of the assasination is not still yet to be known. As a nation and as a race,
we as Filipinos sometimes have the capacity to exceed our limtitations that results to us hurting other

Alternative Reality In Allen Moore s Watchmen
In Allen Moore s Graphic novel, Watchmen, he explores what life might have been like if the United
States of America had won the Vietnam War. When the nations lost, it made a lot of people question
ask the question, are we really the good guys? In this time period, the country starts to see traditional
conservative values change. Women s liberation and awareness of drugs begins. However, in the
alternative reality, none of these things happen. Americans continue to believe that everything is being
done right. The characters that Moore has created lets us see the issues of not only this alternative
reality, but also the present one. An analysis is done on each character to explain further the corruption

What Is The Role Of Working Workers In The 1950s
In 1950, an average worker used to work more than 11hour per week to produce as much as one
working 40 hours per week. A 15hours work used to cover household bills. Today most of the people
use to complain about working too much and that they are overworked. However, if we look back in
time or look at the picture on the side we can clearly see that the workers in 1950s had it awful when it
comes to the work time and their incomes. In 1952, the people worked for 48hours work in weeks,
compared to today where people with a full time job only work for 37hours. When it comes to

The London Blitz Essay
In September of 1940 through May of 1941 there was a strategic bombing attack
that was lead by the Germans targeted towards London and other cities located in
England, this was known as The Blitz. The Germans aimed the bombs mostly at
populated cities, dock yards, and factories.
The bombing on London began on September 7, 1940 and lasted for 57
consecutive nights. During these nights of bombing people took shelter in warehouse
basements, and in underground subway stations with no privacy and poor sanitation

Between five and six o clock on the evening of Saturday 7th September, some
320 German bombers supported by over 600 fighters flew up the Thames and
proceeded to bomb Woolwich Arsenal, Beckton gas Works, a large number of
docks, West Ham Power Station, and then the city, Westminster and Kensington.
They succeeded in causing a serious fire situation in the docks. An area about 1½
square miles between North Woolwich Road and the Thames was almost
destroyed, and the population of Silvertown was surrounded by fire and had to be
evacuated by water. At 8.10pm some 250 bombers resumed the attack which was
maintained until 4.30 on Sunday morning. They caused 9 conflagrations, 59 large
fires, and nearly 1,000 lesser fires. Three main line railway termini were put out

brigades had spent all day in an effort to deprive the enemy of illumination, some

Content Marketing Is Nothing New Essay
Content marketing is nothing new. The first commercial website started back in 1993, so we ve had
nearly a quarter of a century to refine its application. That s why it s so surprising that of the 86
percent of marketers using content marketing, only 32 percent find it effective.
Part of the problem is output. The occasional blog post won t even begin to make a splash in the sea of
online content. And without any consistency, it s difficult to gain enough traction to engage
consumers.
There s also the issue of readers. Many marketers don t take the time to define their audiences beyond
the basic demographics. Just because someone falls within a certain age range, makes a certain
amount of money, and lives within a certain community doesn t mean he or she wants anything to do
with your content or product, for that matter.
For content to be effective, you need to know who you re talking to. You need to know what type of
content your readers want at each stage of the buying process and create an experience that seamlessly
supplies them with credible content. You must develop a plan for creating and pushing out a content
experience that will truly engage them.
Luckily, you don t have to do it alone. Plenty of tools exist to help you not only develop the right
content, but also tee that content up to be found. The following four tools can help you focus your

The Learning Styles Inventory ( Lsi )
In EDCL 5339, Understanding Self, I took the Learning Styles Inventory (LSI). The results showed
that my confirmed strengths are Oppositional, Power, Competitive and Perfectionist. I do not
demonstrate strong Oppositional self. I tend to keep an open mind and am willing to listen to others
opinion. Sometimes, I feel I go along with what others want easily. In my close relationships, I am
more opinionated than I am with my colleagues. I would like to develop the ability to be more
analytical and ask tough questions. I think this is an important skill of a leader. As for my lower
Power, Competitive and Perfectionist self, I am content with who I am in those areas. I am a team
player and I work well with individuals. I would not want to change a thing. I am not interested in
controlling or one upping others. I enjoy working with others and celebrating their achievements,
along with mine.
My areas of unrecognized strengths are Humanistic/Encouraging, Affiliate, Conventional and
Achievement. I believe that the biggest issue for me in this area is my tendency to over analyze my

Google Making USupid Logos
In Is Google Making Us Stupid? (2008), Nicholas Carr maintains that the advent of the Internet has
produced a shallow generation of information customers who lack the ability to deeply engage with
and critically think about a text. To support the argument, Carr draws on personal and historical
anecdotes and one scientific study. The purpose of Carr s article is to open a dialogue about the
potentially adverse effects the Internet could have on humans cognitive processes. Carr establishes an
informal relationship with the audience, who are generally well educated, upper middle class
individuals. Because the audience is educated, they are very capable of critically thinking. However,
Carr s use of other rhetorical strategies disarms them and detracts from the dearth of logos. His essay
is rife with numerous unfounded premises, poor evidence, and logical fallacies. Because of this lack of
logos is in a way compensated by including numerous appeals to ethos and pathos, the audience is
likely to find the article persuasive unless they re read the article deeply with a critical lens. Carr s

journal databases, which are frequented by students and researchers more often than the general
population. Therefore, the sample is not representative of the general population and the results cannot
be generalized to the broader population, which Carr did. Because this methodologically unsound
study was the only one he cited, it is evident the essay lacks logos. Therefore, the first premise cannot

Government is the governing body of a nation, state, or community. When you hear the word
government you usually think of the capitol building or the white house in Washington, D.C..
Government can be defined by the people involved, the system in place, or the process in use. The
government impacts our everyday lives because it regulates different services that include protection,
electricity, health care, maintenance and water. The fifth and final field is History. History is the study
of the past. All developed countries have their National Archives and a historical profession, both paid
for out of taxpayers money. Those who study history, for career purposes, or just personal enjoyment,
have other reasons apart from this all embracing justification for natural resources being channeled
into the study of history. History happens each and every day and changes the country. It can also
affect the way we see the United States. Even the smallest things can change an entire nation. So now
you know how these five things that seemed so small affects our nation every day. They are culture,

Canadian Bilingualism Essay
A nation is made up of people with similar beliefs, ethnic backgrounds, values, histories, cultures, and
languages. In many ways, a nation should be a foundation of identity, depending on what it is, to the
extent that individuals also have their independent characteristics.
The linguistic aspect of a nation can impact its citizens. For example, China includes any dialects of
Chinese language and Mandarin is one of the most spoken languages. Languages are what bind people
together socially and personally. Language is what allows people to have an individual identity. On the
other hand, Canada has two dominant languages, English and French and these languages have

Culture is closely related to ethnicity, although they are not the same thing. For example, Aboriginals
might be united ancestrally, but Inuit culture is different compared to Iroquois culture and Cree
culture. Canada is known as a multination state, meaning that Canada does not support any culture
over another. When immigrants come to Canada, they are free to express their culture and values in
public. This multiculturalism also makes Canada unique.
Some factors of nations can directly affect their citizen, like language, while other factors only affect
them through exercise. Patriotism is an example shown through love for one s country. For example,
people can show patriotism through joining Canada s armed forces or respecting their national
anthem. One can even criticize their government s actions or policies, if they are seen wrongly, to
show patriotism.
Religion is used in nations to unify citizens and create the collective identity. For example, Hinduism
is a dominant religion in India, which gives India a sense of identity. However, religion can also divide
people, because it might brew conflict. An example being the crisis in Syria, where there is conflict
between Muslims and the other minority religions. People also may have spiritual connections to their
land, the Aboriginals of Australia they have spiritual connections to their land. To the aboriginals, their

Walter B. Miller s Focal Concern Theory
Focal concerns is a theory focuses on the worries of delinquent behaviors. It was presented by Walter
B. Miller in 1958. It is a pure cultural theory of gang delinquency specialized for the lower class. As
Miller explained in a short article that he called Lower Class Culture as a Generating Milieu of Gang
Delinquency, the lower class contributed to a distinct criminogenic culture. (Greene, Gabbidon Miller,
2013) This means that the lower class produces criminal acts. He also explained that his explanation
of delinquency is based on those who live in unhappy inner cities where females are mostly the head
of their households, and they operate according focal concerns due to the fact that they do not have
middle class values, good discipline, and role models. Some focal concerns are defined as trouble,

Imagination: A Human s Special Sense
Human beings have the ability to create their own individual worlds through imagination. However,
the imagination is limited because of the constant use of technology and the reliance on vision. The
technological culture has separated humans from the actual world and their senses; much like vision
has done. In the essay The Eyes of the Skin: Architecture and the Senses , Juhani Pallasmaa focuses
on the exploration of the senses and how they interact with one another. We also see his discussion on
how vision can affect the human experience. The more visually capable we are, the more we begin to
lose our sense of imagination. Similarly in the essay ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We see that our imagination comes into play when our vision is obscured. Without the sense of vision,
our other senses quickly assume richness and power. This occurs to blind people such as Hull, who at
the age of forty eight became completely blind. Sacks states that Hull speaks of how the sound of the
rain, never before accorded much attention, can now delineate a whole landscape for him...it throws a
coloured blanket over previously invisible things (304). In other words, we see that Sacks is showing
us how strong Hull s imagination was after becoming blind. Just because Hull became blind, it did not
mean that Hull s life was over. On the other hand, it was a new beginning for Hull. He was able to
make use of his other senses and see how important they are. With Hull s imagination also came a
sense of intimacy with his surroundings. He felt as though with his strong visual imagery, he had a
strong sense of closeness, which evolves from imagining. The term delineate has a significant
meaning in Sack s text because imagination is what led Hull to be able to portray the images precisely
in his mind. Similarly, Pallasmaa states, anyone who has half woken up to the sound of a train or an
ambulance in a nocturnal city, and though his/her sleep experienced the space of the city with its
countless inhabitants scattered within its structures, knows the

offering healthy and tasty meals to their targeted market (primarily workers at the City Hall). To keep
the cost low, the management did not printed a menu instead it was written on a chalkboard and was

Nevertheless, the majority of customers are very satisfied with the amount of serving along with the
quality of their meal as well as the price paid. The strategy of being a low priced high value added has
seen problems due to lack of customers which is affecting the bottom line drastically. This inevitable
circumstance has put a hold on operations and started an investigation upon various neighboring
competitors and their own strategies. Overall, the strategy is effective but not effectively used, which
considers areas of error that include, a visible colorful sign, extended hours of operations, increased
advertising, a stable menu, a catering opportunity, and a real café look which can distinguish itself
from the rest of its competitors.
Q 2) What are the key reasons for the depressing sales and profits?
Some of the key reasons for the dismal profits are primarily due to lack of control, and inexperience
from both Julie and Mary, the co owners and managers of Café Bijoux. The reasoning behind this
claim is that a business that is not seen profitable is usually not. In addition, a real restaurant sign is
not up and visible. A sign is a major gateway to success in a busy congested market which sees more
than eleven businesses surrounding a one km radius. However, Julie and Mary have been awaiting the

Deconstruction Architecture and Digital Technology Essay
Deconstruction is first developed by the French philosopher Jacques Derrida. The definition for
deconstruction is not easy to understand, and Derrida and his interpreters actually intend it to be
difficult. It was first meant a method of interpretation and analysis of a text or a speech. He introduced
the concept of deconstruction in connection with his linguistic philosophy and grammatology. When
deconstruct a text or a speech, it is to draw out conflicting logics of sense and implication, with the
object of showing that the text never exactly means what it ways or says what it means . Though, it
has been applied not only to text but also to the visual arts and architecture.
The approach of deconstruction in architecture is to get ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One way this is done is through compositions that employ simultaneous system overlaid or clashed in
a singular space. It is also accomplished by using forms that are dynamic rather than static.
As modern architecture had not allowed the expression of contradictions, but in deconstructive
buildings, there are different spaces intersecting one another in irregular ways. This is an attempt to
reveal the character of each and every space, and the relationship in between of the occasional conflict
and coincidence.
There are at least three references to characterize deconstructionist architecture:
¡P First, it will be seen how such work tends to juxtapose visual and textual elements, producing not
so much a post modernist collage of randomly associated styles and techniques as a critical,
interrogative exchange between them;
¡P Second, this will have effect of engaging the viewer or reader in an active decoding of the social
constraints that are often concealed behind talk to aesthetic autonomy or form; and
¡P Thirdly, that deconstruction maintains the kind of double edged relation to modernist themes and
techniques that enables such analysis to be carried forward without losing its point through the sheer
multiplicity of styles on offer.
An example would be the Hague Social Housing by Peter Eisenman. This project was conceived in
order to explore innovative ideas in the living space in the city; it

As humans, we spend little or no time processing the constant bombardment of information around us.
We don t have time to process everything, so we develop these mental shortcuts. We tend to follow
our feelings, even if we don t admit doing so. We always respond more to gut instincts, intuition, and
other emotionally based triggers than we do to logic and reasoning. We just want to feel right about
things. We are emotional, subconscious decision makers with a bit of logic. The following two

Although Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz had no formal training as a mathematician, his contributions to
the field of mathematics are still evident today. His results and work laid the groundwork for more

Generally, the stages involved in big data processing and analysis include data acquisition, data
extraction, data representation, modeling, analysis and interpretation [21]. These stages are illustrated
in Figure 5 and are explained briefly also. Fig. 5. Steps in Big Data Processing (Source: [22]) A.
Acquisition and Recording This is the first step in the data processing cycle. It is mostly concerned
with the sources of big data and techniques required to capture the data. As it has been discussed in
prior parts of this paper, big data can originate from multiple sources and therefore requires an
intelligent process to acquire and store this raw data. Another relevant aspect of this phase is metadata
generation and acquisition. This acquisition of the right metadata enables for a description of the
recorded data and how exactly it is being measured. B. Information Extraction and Cleaning In some
cases, the information gotten from various sources may not be ready for analysis. Such data usually
contains images, audio, or in some cases they are gotten from environmental sensors such as
surveillance cameras.

School lunch is the time when children eat at school every day when they attend school. Lunch at
school is what ensures that the children are getting at least some kind of nutrients because for some, it
may be the only meal that they are receiving and are able to eat. It is required that the schools feed the
children that attend there. It can be a topic of issue because of the many complaints about some
schools cooking unhealthy foods.
Some pros about school lunches is that they allow the student to receive good nutrients, they are able
to discover new things outside of their home cooked meals, and they are able to learn table manners.
Nutrients is a good thing for children because they are still growing. School lunches give that to the
students because that may be the only time for them to receive it. It also gives them a chance to
explore foods. Some schools change up the menu so that there can be a variety of choice within the
week. School lunches are able to teach children table manners because they are in a social setting and
are able to learn from one another. In addition, there are some cons when it comes to school lunches
also. One is that it may not be what the children want. That issue hinders the child to not eat. Not
eating causing many problems within children. Another reason is that the menu is not flexible. There
is only a limited amount of

Scheveningen Prison Research Paper
Scheveningen Prison The Scheveningen prison looked somewhat like the Killeavy Castle, with its tall
bricks walls. The Oranjehotel was a nickname for the Scheveningen Prison because it was used as a
seaside resort before the war. It was to denote the resistance fighters held there, and was named after
the Dutch monarchy. Also, the name orange referred to its royal colors. While the prison was still a
hotel, Jewish people established prayer houses and voluntary organizations. In 1926, When polish
Jews settled in Scheveningen they built a synagogue. Then, in Scheveningen, the fishing village in
The Hague became very popular in the community. On the eve of World War II, liberal Jewish

If people didn t hold a Dutch nationality, they were forced to leave the coastal regions of the
Netherlands. The central occupational administration for the Netherlands in The Hague was were
Jewish people had to be put on trial. Approximately 80% of 10,000 Jews were liberated from The
Hague to German concentration camps or prison, and the other 2,000 were murdered. If the Jewish
people were sent to prison, they would first go to the Scheveningen Prison which is very close to The
Hague. Once they got to the prison, the prisoners were inspected and then sent to a cell. The cells had
been opened to prisoners since 1919. There were seven rows of cells and the center row was called the
D row. In the center of that row was a cell named 601, in which the prisoners had to wait to be
executed. When a prisoner was to be executed, they would first go to a small wooden gate called het
Poortje, which could be seen from the Van Alkemadelaan. Second, the prisoners were loaded onto a
truck and driven to the Waalsdorpervlakte in the dunes, which was a huge bell like the one from The
Hunchback of Notre Dame. Lastly, the imprisoned Jews were shot at or nearby the dunes, and over
three hundred were killed

Also, the metal truss plate reflects some of the heat away from the wood slowing down the charring process. The disadvantages of a metal gusset plate s behavior while being exposed to extreme heat conditions from a fire include th fact that the galvanized metal gusset plate s teeth do not penetrate the wood all that deep. The wood the plates are connecting, have a charring rate of 1/40 inch per minute. The truss plate s teeth have a minimum depth of 3/8 inch. So during a typical fire, the wood will lose 3/8 inch of its body in approximately 15 minutes leaving the teeth of the metal truss plate completely exposed.
  • 4. This will then cause the metal truss plate to fall off allowing that joint to lose its integrity. Once a joint on a truss is compromised, the weight it previously carried will be transferred to the next closest joints. These joints in return can not carry the additional load while being exposed to the fire causing them to lose their integrity resulting in a complete failure of the truss assembly. Whereas, the adhesive used for the glued finger jointed truss will maintain its structural integrity longer than the truss members. Another disadvantage of the metal gusset plate is that a gap up to 1/8 of an inch is allowable. This gap between members of the truss system members will allow heat and flame to get to the back side of the metal gusset. When this happens, the wood member will char deeper and faster thus causing less of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Regardless of the type of hardwood used, whether it is ash, oak or maple, wood floors have always maintained their timelessness and adapted to the changing decors. Botticelli is using the biblical motif to foreshadow Christ being born. Christ is the right hand of God, so even the annunciation of his coming must be holy and divine. While there is no bible evidence, many believe the angel Gabriel sat at the left hand of God. Rabbi David Cooper says the angel is connected with the attribute of Gevorah on the left side of the Tree of Life. Whereas Michael is on God s right hand, Gabriel is on God s left hand. The left hand is the one that metes out punishment; the right hand overrules strict justice and is more merciful and thus more lenient (p. 45). Botticelli seems to agree with the theory of Gabriel sitting at God s left hand by the placement on the angel. While the does have a column directly diving the space, the gaps between the columns and the walk way into the chapel combines the two sections. Botticelli seems to be inferring for the angel to walk into the chapel and see Mary. The figures are also bowing toward one another. Not only are they bowing because they are in the house of God, but they seem to acknowledge one another in their bowing. The first commercial website started back in 1993, so we ve had nearly a quarter of a century to refine its application. That s why it s so surprising that of the 86 percent of marketers using content marketing, only 32 percent find it effective. Part of the problem is output. The occasional blog post won t even begin to make a splash in the sea of online content. And without any consistency, it s difficult to gain enough traction to engage consumers. There s also the issue of readers. Many marketers don t take the time to define their audiences beyond the basic demographics. Just because someone falls within a certain age range, makes a certain amount of money, and lives within a certain community doesn t mean he or she wants anything to do with your content or product, for that matter. For content to be effective, you need to know who you re talking to. You need to know what type of content your readers want at each stage of the buying process and create an experience that seamlessly supplies them with credible content. You must develop a plan for creating and pushing out a content experience that will truly engage them. Luckily, you don t have to do it alone. (2008), Nicholas Carr maintains that the advent of the Internet has produced a shallow generation of information customers who lack the ability to deeply engage with and critically think about a text. To support the argument, Carr draws on personal and historical anecdotes and one scientific study. The purpose of Carr s article is to open a dialogue about the potentially adverse effects the Internet could have on humans cognitive processes. Carr establishes an informal relationship with the audience, who are generally well educated, upper middle class individuals. However, the imagination is limited because of the constant use of technology and the reliance on vision. The technological culture has separated humans from the actual world and their senses; much like vision has done. In the essay The Eyes of the Skin: Architecture and the Senses , Juhani Pallasmaa focuses on the exploration of the senses and how they interact with one another. This occurs to blind people such as Hull, who at the age of forty eight became completely blind. Sacks states that Hull speaks of how the sound of the rain, never before accorded much attention, can now delineate a whole landscape for him...it throws a coloured blanket over previously invisible things (304). In other words, we see that Sacks is showing us how strong Hull s imagination was after becoming blind. Just because Hull became blind, it did not mean that Hull s life was over. On the other hand, it was a new beginning for Hull. He was able to make use of his other senses and see how important they are. With Hull s imagination also came a sense of intimacy with his surroundings. He felt as though with his strong visual imagery, he had a strong sense of closeness, which evolves from imagining. The term delineate has a significant meaning in Sack s text because imagination is what led Hull to be able to portray the images precisely in his mind. Generally, the stages involved in big data processing and analysis include data acquisition, data extraction, data representation, modeling, analysis and interpretation [21]. These stages are illustrated in Figure 5 and are explained briefly also. Fig. 5. Steps in Big Data Processing (Source: [22]) A. Acquisition and Recording This is the first step in the data processing cycle. It is mostly concerned with the sources of big data and techniques required to capture the data. As it has been discussed in prior parts of this paper, big data can originate from multiple sources and therefore requires an intelligent process to acquire and store this raw data. Another relevant aspect of this phase is metadata generation and acquisition. This acquisition of the right metadata enables for a description of the recorded data and how exactly it is being measured. B.
