Compare And Contrast Kennedy And Nixon Election
Kennedy and Nixon Elections in the United States of America
John F. Kennedy vs. Richard Nixon In 1960 the Cold War tensions were rising, therefore the election
campaign was mainly dominated by this topic. Public opinion polls showed that more than a half of
American people thought the war with the Soviet Union was inevitable. The two candidates who
ended up chasing after the presidency were a barely known democrat senator John F. Kennedy and
vice president republican Richard Nixon. They both promised more advanced science and technology
in order to win the race with communism in these fields. At the beginning of his campaign, Kennedy
promised he would get the nation moving again and stated that the United States would have the will

The two candidates are similar with the previous examples. Senator from Illinois Barack Obama, who
ran as a democrat, was rather new, but he had ideas of change. Republican candidate John McCain
was very experienced and it wasn t the first time for him to compete for presidency. It is said that
people were choosing between change and experience and at some point the votes were almost
balanced. John McCain is a strong conservative who defends integrity and moral values. He followed
his father and became a naval aviator. McCain was almost killed Vietnam War, so he was well
respected by his contenders and considered as a charismatic man beyond his political circle of
acquaintances. However, he is a moderated republican who doesn t hesitate to take a different position
than his republican fellows. Barack Obama is the first African American president in the history and
has spoken often of his multicultural background: his father was from Kenya and his mother from
Kansas, and they met at the University of Hawaii. Obama is frequently referred to as an exceptional
orator and a great part of independents and young people support

Literary Review and Submission on
Green Consumerism

This literary submission will take on a systematic, convergent approach in focusing on five separate
articles regarding green consumerism. The five peer reviewed articles which have been selected for
this paper have been placed in the appendix of this submission in the order in which they appear in the
bibliography.
A key point which is continuously brought up within each article is that environmental consumerism is
becoming more and more prevalent in today s society (Mazar and Zhong, 2009). Although there ...

The article also identifies the green consumer as often very skeptical of green advertising in general,
which results in their own adoptive means of conducting alternative research so that they are well
informed prior to making a purchase (Shrum et. Al, 1995). As well, Auger s article provided
supporting evidence to this point by restating that active information seekers were often more apt to
adopt socially ethical products (Auger et al, 2003).
Several types of research methods were used to reach these conclusions, including the use of primary
data collected through ethical disposition surveys and choice experiment surveys (Auger et al, 2003).
An extensive amount of secondary research was also pulled together, with some data sets being
analyzed to determine the conclusive results (Shrum et. Al, 1995). However, it is noted within each
paper that there are gaps which exist within each article s research design. For example, some surveys
were only targeted at a certain demographics, leading to a relatively homogeneous study groups
(Haytko and Matulich, 2007), while other data sets did not reflect the general population, as some
secondary data either over represented or underrepresented certain populations, resulting in an
incomprehensive analysis of data (Shrum et. Al, 1995).
As a result, gaps can be observed in both the research questions conducted within these articles, as
well as the

Lizzie Borden Guilty Essay
Lizzie Borden Murder trial
The borden house,Lizzie, her parents, the axe,Lizzie Borden is guilty. This is the story of a young
woman named Lizzie Borden who is accused of whether she murdered her parents or not.In this essay
I will give my evidence and reasoning on to why I think Lizzie is guilty. In today s perspective people
would argue that Lizzie is guilty, but back in the old times when the murder happened people would
have a stronger belief to that she is not guilty.I think that Lizzie Borden is guilty.
One vital reason why Lizzie Borden is guilty is because she burned her dress. In the article The trial of
Lizzie Borden:an accountant it states that Lizzie was caught by her sister Emma Borden burning the
dress that she wore on the day of the murder, when her sister asked what she was doing she replied
with I am going to burn this old thing up,it is covered with paint.Lizzie borden burning her dress that
she wore on the day of the murder makes her guilty in my opinion. This evidence suggests Lizzie s
guilt because she wore that same dress on the day of the murder. She simply could of threw it out or
put it away, there was point of burning it up because there were other reason to solve her problem.Due
to the fact of Lizzie burning the dress backs up her guilt. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The, And Administrative Decrees Documented During The...
After Alexander the Great conquest of Egypt in 332 BC, Egypt was ruled for the following three
centuries by the foreign Greek dynasty of the Ptolemies. Although Egypt was subjugated by Alexander
in 332 BC it wasn t actually until 305 BC that the Ptolemaic dynasty was officially established.
Ptolemaic Egypt would have been considered one of the two greatest powers in the Hellenic East.
However, there is evidence that shows that the first troubles that Ptolemaic Egypt had to face actually
originated from Egypt itself. These troubles were formed largely due to the ethnic tension that had
formed with the native Egyptians and the immigrated Greeks. There was a third community of people
present in Ptolemaic Egypt at this time, these people being that of the Jewish faith (find better way to
introduce this shit). It is the hope of this essay to prove through analyse of literary texts, papyri, and
administrative decrees documented during the reign of the Ptolemaic dynasty that the tension between
these two groups was extremely strong. This can be attributed to a fusion of the Greeks disdain for the
native Egyptians and the Egyptians resentment of the Greeks due to the ill treatment they receive from
them.
Even from the very first migration of Greeks in Egypt, Ptolemaic Egypt was a bureaucracy were in
which your social standing was determined by your race, and the prevailing ethnicity was that of the
Greeks. Although the Greek were the minority in Egypt this did not stop from being

Von Juraschek
Friedrich von Hayek: Defender of Political Liberty
Friedrich August von Hayek was born on May 8th, 1899 in Vienna to August von Hayek and Felicitas
Hayek (née von Juraschek) and was the oldest of three boys. His father and both of his grandfathers
were university professors and inspired young Friedrich to be a scholar. Franz von Juraschek, his
maternal grandfather, was a renowned economics and a friend of the founder of the Austrian School of
Economics, Eugen Böhm. As a young student, Hayek was very academically inclined. He read
frequently and, at his father s prompting, read Hugo de Vries and Ludwig Feuerbach, the former a
genetic scientist and the latter a philosopher who wrote a critique of Christianity. At school, he was

The Keynesian economist favors strong government and therefore government intervention in times of
trouble. However, Hayek argues that the government, as the central planner, cannot possibly know
how consumers would prefer to have resources used in the production of good and services. This lack
of knowledge, he calls the information problem for the central planner does not have enough
information to adequately provide for the people s needs and therefore surpluses and shortages
abound. Protecting protect property rights is the role of the government, Hayek stated. In his world
famous book, The Road to Serfdom, he warns that government intervention will create unintended
consequences which will make people clamor for more government help and lead to more government
intervention and more problems. Ludwig von Mises, a close friend and colleague of Hayek, said that
increasing government intervention would only lead to a socialist economy. To have economic
freedom, political liberty is essential. In The Road to Serfdom, Hayek explains how when the
government controls everything, they have power over the markets. This ties closely in with the idea
that information is decentralized. The prices and amount of goods produced would all be controlled by
the government. Hayek pointed out that powerful government attracted selfish people who cared for
themselves and their friends before looking to the needs of

Review Of The Book Of Dibs
The book of Dibs is a very interesting read, it is about a young boy who has a rich family and dad is a
well known scientist and little sister gets all the attention and is a brat. Dibs attends a private school
and doesn t receive the attention he needs from his home life. The teachers observe Dibs and his
actions as he sits in the classroom or crawls around the room and hides. Dibs loves books and is
always grabbing for some or finding some books to open. Dibs seems to come off to me as unsocial
and bothered. In chapter 1, when they tell dibs that it is time to go home he doesn t want to move. To
me it seems he doesn t want to go home because his parents or sister pays attention to him so he sits
alone and quite. It seems his parents don t care about Dibs or care to figure out what is in his best
interest. There has to be a reason when they tell Dibs it is time to go home he doesn t move or talk and
balls up in his arms and won t listen or look at anyone, and throws a fit when they pick him up kicking
screaming and crying or he just lets it happen and is quite and looks and feels defeated. I don t like in
chapter one how everyone just overlooks him or doesn t show him enough attention or really tries to
help him or see what is going on and how other parents look down upon him for his disability. Other
parents don t want Dibs there either because he has scratched or has bitten their children and don t see
that there is more going on with Dibs then him just being a socially

Moby Dick Research Paper
It is not everyday that a man is able to write himself into history, only the greatest and most daring
writers are able to break the threshold of humanity and ascend into the history books. Growing up
with two of the most influential grandfathers who were both Revolutionary heroes, Herman Melville
grew into a great writer. Bankruptcy and the loss of his father at age 12 had such a big impact on
Herman that he was taken out of school and forced to work. He self taught himself and briefly went
back to school to study Engineering (Reiff 9 11). During his early 20s, Melville was unable to get a
job in engineering. He faced economic hardships which influenced him to go on voyages as an escape
from his problems. Sailing consisted of relaxing and romanticizing with beautiful islanders despite the
horrors of military punishments he experienced (Reiff 13). From 1844 to 1857, Melville spent his
years as a full time writer to gain prestige and money while supporting his family (American
Experience). Melville became known for one of his novels, Moby Dick, which was dedicated to
Nathaniel Hawthorne. Moby Dick is known as one of the Greatest American Novels because the story
had an exciting plot, philosophical statements, many comparisons, and symbols making the novel very
complex. The complexity of the literary writing symbolized romance, particularly the romance of the
sea. The novel was based on the life of a sailor who experienced a tragic voyage and a white whale
named Moby Dick.

Essay on Investigative Reporting is the Driving Force in...
Investigative reporting has been a driving force in journalism for centuries. The reporting tradition of
revealing misconduct was already well established much before the 20th Century. Its practise even
predates the publication of the first successful colonial newspaper in 1704, demonstrating the press
watchdog role has had deep historical roots in democracy much prior to the 1960s. Over the past three
centuries, investigative reporters have tried to make a difference by raising public consciousness about
perceived wrongdoings. Prior to the early 1960s, investigative reporting was highly localised and
sporadic. This was a reflection of the character of early journalism and the technological limits of
communication. It was not until the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

used by a criminal landlord, Peter Rachman, to terrorise tenants. These examples set a trend and by the
late 1960s there were many new vehicles for investigative reporting in the national media.
One of the most notable reporters of the time was Ron Hall, who has been considered to have virtually
invented the art of investigative journalism in Britain, as one of a trio of young reporters in the 1960s,
he created the insight team of the Sunday Times. Shortly after he joined the paper, the scandal of the
Profumo affair broke so he began to produce a weekly detailed account of what had happened, digging
deeper into the background story. Shortly after that, the first truly investigative article written by Hall
was an account of the life and misdeeds of Rachman, the corrupt slum landlord. In the course of his 20
years on the paper, he was associated with some of its most important investigative stories, including
the Philby spy scandal, thalidomide, and the remarkable disclosure that the yachtsman Donald
Crowhurst, who had taken part in a round the world race, and had faked his journey, pretending to
have orbited the globe. Ron Hall was one of the most influential and talented journalists of his time,
an architect of the Sunday Times Insight pages and pioneered techniques of investigative journalism

Nestlé is known to be one of the most hated companies in the world. Due to its several unethical
activities (like child labor, mislabelling, price fixing, pollution, its marketing of baby formula in poor

The Impact Of Friendship On People s Lives
The Impact of Friendship
Close social relationships have a dramatic affect on people s lives. Specifically, friendships are
amazing in that each one is different yet all friendships share several qualities. Although friendships
are a very positive thing to have, they also come with costs. Friendships have always intrigued me, so
I found it fascinating to learn about the impact they have and it gave me a new perspective to look at
my own friendships.
Friendships can be very different from one another but they all have recognizable characteristics.
Floyd (2011) defines these characteristics of friendship as voluntary, between peers, governed by
rules, differ by sex, and have a lifespan. People become friends with one another out of choice, ...

These rules can vary from behavior to the feelings one has about their friend. Criticizing a friend
behind their back or being dishonest are widely looked down upon. These rules are unchanged by
differences in sex but other aspects of the friendship differ. Floyd (2011) states that same sex friends
value different aspects of their friendships. Friendships between women tend to emphasize
conversation and emotional expressiveness. Men s friendships place more of a focus on shared
activities and interests according to Floyd (2011). I personally find this quite accurate to examples in
my life. On the other hand, opposite sex friendships are valuable as they allow both men and women
to see things from each other s perspectives. Floyd (2011) says that opposite sex friendships allow
men to be emotionally expressive and women to partake in shared activities. Many reasons can
prevent an opposite sex friendship from becoming a romantic relationship. A lack of physical
attraction, wanting to protect an existing friendship, and fear of rejection, are a few of the reasons
Floyd (2011) lists. The final characteristic is that friendships have lifespans. An unfortunate reality, but
as Floyd (2011) puts it, most friendships are initiated, maintained, and eventually many of them end.
Nagging, criticizing, abuse of alcohol and drugs, and hostile behaviors can lead to declining
friendships, which

they need from people of color. For people of color, she suggest that we stop debating past harms and

1. INTRODUCTION
The Internet is a network of networks. It is based on the concept of packet switching. Though the
services offered by Internet are extensively used from a layman to multi millionaire it also has its own
defects. Many attacks on Internet are being identified and reported. Some of the common types of
network attacks are eavesdropping, data modification, identity spoofing, password based attacks and
denial of service attacks. To overcome all these types of attacks an organisation usually installs an
intrusion detection system to protect the confidential data exchanged over its network. The local
network is then connected to the Internet thereby availing the employees to be online on the fly.
Information security has three main objectives namely 1. Data confidentiality 2.Data integrity 3. Data
availability. Data confidentiality ensures that the secure data can be accessed only by authorized
persons. Data integrity allows secure modification of data. Data availability ensures that the data is
available readily to authorized persons. Small scale industries often do not prefer on intrusion

Indeed this is the most medals any athlete in the Olympics has ever been awarded, Michael Phelps had

How Do Advertisers Target Our Youth
Advertisers are using many different techniques to try to target our youth. Some of the ways take place
through schools, stores, and even in your own home. Now, i m going to explain where and how
advertisers target our youth. To start off with, one big way marketers target our youth are at the store.
Why? Simple because that s where they are selling there products and and where they target kids the
most. Marketers try to make eye contact levels on their products so it attracts viewers eyes more
easily. Their goal is to try to make interesting characters or thing that pop so that it seems cool or good
to them so kids will want it. It is stated in the film Marketing to kids that Kids have to nag their
parents approximately 9 times in order for them to respond or get them whatever it is they want. They
use that strategy because their parents will eventually get tired of hearing them and let them get the
product. Advertisers probably use this method a lot to get marketers. Another way kids are targeted is
at home. You can see ads on basically any electronic device or any commercial on T.V. In fact most of

The Life Of Fredrick Douglass, An American Slave
Ironically inhumane. Maybe not ironic at all. Forced labor of humans being considered humane almost
seems impossible. Everyone is human, they feel pain, excitement, emotion, actually maybe not
emotion. Emotions are typically innate, sadness, happiness, but what about empathy? Slavery brought
extreme empathy to some, but showed the void of empathy in others. Those lacking empathy can
either be violent or depressed. They cannot feel for others, have no reason to try to find a connection.
One major question exists, is empathy a learned emotion? Throughout the moving, enlightening, and
harsh Fredrick Douglass autobiography, Narrative of the Life of Fredrick Douglass, an American
Slave, the former slave truly reflects on what the public is being kept from hearing about: actual slave
attitudes. Written in 1845, around the time the strongest abolitionist movements were in the beginning
stages, the recently freed slave provided a semi live feed of what reality for the slave is truly like. With
his stories of an abandoned childhood and an under privileged education, Douglass provides the reader
with the feelings, sights, and smells of living in his shoes. Taking a retrospective view of the topic, one
can jump to the conclusion of slavery being an obvious example of inhumane labor, and one that
needed to be dismantled immediately. Looking at it from the point of view of an average individual
living among others in the recently formed United States republic, one may be able to

How Does Andrew Lloyd Webber Use The Mask In The Phantom...
In the online dictionary, masks are described as being a covering for all or part of the face, worn to
conceal one s identity . Andrew Lloyd Webber utilizes masks in The Phantom of the Opera, in such a
way that really captivates the viewers and helps to highlight and hide certain aspects. Not only does he
use the mask to shield the Phantom s deformation, he also shows what kind of person the Phantom is
with and without the mask, including his behaviour, and actions towards others.

Beginning with vulnerability, it is obvious that the Phantom is much more defenseless, and much less
powerful without the mask on. When Christine removes the mask without his permission, he responds
very angrily, saying, Damn you! You little prying Pandora! You little demon...Curse you! You little
lying Delilah! You little viper! In doing so, he demonstrates a much more aggressive and contentious
persona towards her. In the midst of cursing and yelling at her, Erik threw her down, forcefully, after
she removed his mask. It is evident that from the above actions displayed by the Phantom, he doesn t
approbate the removal of the mask without his permission. Another gauge of his behaviour because of
the mask, is hidden deep within his self image. Here, we are able to find out what he actually thinks of
himself. Erik portrays himself as ...a loathsome gargoyle, who burns in hell but secretly yearns for
heaven... this repulsive carcass, who seems a beast, but secretly dreams of beauty . Similarly, he also
doesn t want anyone to know what he really looks like. After Christine removed the mask, the
Phantom said, Is that what you wanted to see?...Now you cannot ever be free! This goes to show that
Erik doesn t have very a ample self esteem, and does not wish for anyone to witness his true

Apple Porter s Five Forces
Introduction nbsp; nbsp; nbsp; nbsp; nbsp;To perform the Industry Analysis it is better to follow
Michael Porter s five forces model. This analysis framework was created so that it helps managers in
their task to analyze competitive forces to the company. (Hill amp; Jones 80) This model is only one
of the models that can be used for this task but it is one of the more popular models. The five forces
that we will have to look at for this model are (1) the risk of new and potential competitors; (2) the
bargaining power of suppliers; (3) the threat of substitute products; (4) the bargaining power of
buyers; and (5) the degree of rivalry among established companies within an industry. (Hill amp;

Since IBM became the more popular computer to start with, switching cost became much higher if
you wanted to switch to a Macintosh, an Apple operating system. All the software that you owned for
the IBM computer would be useless for an Apple computer. That means along with purchasing the
new computer itself you would also have to repurchase all the software that you had on the old
computer in the new Macintosh format. Also the two computers work slightly different, so you may
have to take a class or two to help you understand how to work this new computer that you purchased.
Overall that is much more money then it would be just to buy another computer compatible with the
same system that you already own. A third barrier to entry is one of imitation and absolute cost
advantages. This is were IBM has lost it s advantage. IBM has created a computer that is very open for
imitation. There are many different computers that are compatible to the IBM format. Each new
company that has entered the market has realized that IBM had the more popular system and then tried
to copy it. These new companies were producing very similar computers at the same cost but charging
less. (Hill amp; Jones 207) This in turn caused IBM to loose their

Male Dominance In Alice Walker s Color Purple
Male Dominance in The Color Purple The Color Purple is a story of transformation, of the will of one
woman against all the men in her life, finding happiness in what life deals you, and dealing with a
male dominated society. Although there are stereotypical elements for both men and women, within
the main characters, traditional roles are replaced with more complex concepts. Living during the
early 1900 s, a young girl must overcome years of abuse, betrayal, and become an independent,
confident woman. Through strength and persistence, Celie is able to find truth through the female
bonds and friendships of unconditional love in Alice Walker s The Color Purple. In The Color Purple,
women were often weakened by men having their sense of self worth controlled by principles of
beauty, ability, and what they could provide for men. The men in the novel kept them uneducated so
that they were submissive and if they ever got out of line they would be beaten to remind them of their
place. The men in the novel were able to do and go as they pleased with no backlash or repercussions
from the women in the novel. As Mr.__ would say Men s supposed to wear the pants. The cycle of
violence in the novel creates misery for the women. Celie who is the main character often suffered
from physical and psychological damage from the violence and aggression of Mr.__. Mr.__ is
controlling and very self centered, he shows no remorse for the feelings of his wife Celie and beats her

History Of Mass Extinction Essay
The History of Earth s Mass Extinctions
The four billion year history of earth has witnessed five mass extinctions, and some scientists believe
that we are on the verge of the sixth.1[1] If we are in the midst of the next mass extinction, we are in
the very early stages of an evolving, and escalating process. The most recent, or fifth mass of the
extinctions occurred 65 million years ago at the boundary between the Cretaceous and Tertiary
periods. Images of an asteroid colliding with the planet, decimating the dinosaur population have been
in circulation since the early 80 s.2[2] Being the most recent mass extinction, thousands of scientists
around the world have investigated it, and elementary school children are familiar with ... Show more

Experts have put together various theories about previous mass extinctions and their findings have led
some to believe that we are in the early stages of the sixth. One finding that has worried scientists
throughout the world is the rate at which species of plants and animals have been going extinct.
Previous research had discovered that the number of species of birds around the world has been on a
steady decline for some time.6[6] While this detection did raise some red flags, it was not evidence
that the next mass extinction had been launched.
While birds are abundant both in sheer population and number of species scientists needed to discover
the decline of more than one selection of animals. More than half of the detected species of animals on
earth are insects.7[7] If scientists wanted substantial, tangible evidence that there was a widespread
decrease in animal populations and worldwide decrease in biodiversity, researching insects was the
way to go. The results across the board were not the least encouraging.
The populations of butterflies in Britain were at the forefront of the researchers findings. Overall, 71
percent of the butterfly populations have decreased in numbers and 3.4 percent of

Frida Kahlo Y Calderon
in the outskirts of Mexico City, in the small town of Coyoacàn the Blue House (La Casa Azul) had
been built by Wilhelm Kahlo. In this house, Magdalena Carmen Frida Kahlo y Calderon, or as she is
simply known by the name Frida Kahlo, was born on July 6, 1907.
Frida s father had great faith for Frida and was determined to see that she got the best education
possible. As she began her studies, Frida excelled on all her subjects at the school.
In September of the year 1925, Frida was in her senior year and looked forward to her graduation and
was making plans to attend medical school. Though, that year brought different plans for the young
girl. On that day, Frida and her boyfriend, Alejandro, were heading home when the bus was struck by

In spite of the fact that her mother did not wish for Frida to see Diego due to their age differences (he
was 20 years older) and their strange appearances together (Frida was 5 3 tall and Diego was 6 ), they
were married in a Catholic ceremony in 1929.
Melancholia, illness, divorce, and re marriage brewed their relationship; Diego Rivera was known to
be a ladies charmer thus leading their marriage into a storm.
When Diego and Frida divorced in the year of 1940, Frida turned to heavy drinking, chain smoking,
and a steady diet of candy. This affected her quite dangerously as she developed an atrophic ulcer on
her right foot, from which several gangrenous toes were amputated (or dismembered).
Frida and Diego Rivera reconciled and were re married on his 54th birthday, in December 1940, in
San Francisco, California. Following the amputation of her right leg in 1953, Frida became a recluse
and more deeply depressed, finally losing the will to live. She was found dead at home in Mexico City
on July 13, 1954, from heart failure. Many believe she committed suicide by taking an overdose of

Religion In Non-Denominational Schools
Do you want your children taught what they should and shouldn t believe? In the United Kingdom,
state school are required by the Education System Act 1944 to teach religious education. This
encompasses a variety of religions but there is undoubtedly a heavy focus on Christianity in many non
denominational schools. These schools are designed to avoid religious discrimination, and yet they
stick to one religion without thinking about those who do not follow it. Pupils from a range of faiths
attend these schools, as well as non religious students, and they should not have to put up with
preachings that they do not believe in. They feel excluded from any religion based activity they are
made to take part in. Many non denominational schools have ... Show more content on

Should schools balance their curriculum more, continue as normal, or stop religious education
altogether? Personally, I believe that the first option is ideal. Teaching all religions fairly will not
create social barriers, nor will it force any beliefs on anyone who does not want them. Students will
still learn all they need to know about a variety of religions, and will be able to freely make their own
decision on what to believe without being influenced one way or another. Ideally, group prayers would
no longer be carried out, so that each child can say what they wish to whichever deity they choose.
Making everyone give the same message of thanks to the same God, focusing so heavily on
Christianity even from children s first year of school, taking students out of classes to tell stories from
the Bible none of this is teaching them anything at all. Religion is certainly important in the modern
world, so yes, it should be taught in schools but as sociology, not as a method of

The Health Of The Youth Of Australia Face
Youth can be one of the most difficult times in human development due to the rapid emotional,
intellectual, and also physical changes one goes through as one progresses from childhood to
adolescence and then into adulthood. This time is of great importance as it is crucial to establish
positive health and social behaviours (AIHW, 2011). A large portion of the current generation of
Australian children and adolescents face a large array of both biophysical and/or psychosocial health
issues which not only affects their quality of life but also has an impact on the health of the population
in the future, and the health of society in a much broader sense (Eckersley 2008). After thorough

The accumulation of fat is a reflection of energy imbalance, when more energy is consumed through
the consumption of food and drink than is expended through physical activity. (Coles Ruthishauser
Seelig, 2001; AIHW, 2016) Epidemiological studies show a steady trend of increasing obesity
prevalence among children and adolescents particularly over the past two decades, internationally
(WHO 2000; Department of Health 2003; NCHS 2004). The prevalence of overweight and obesity in
Australian children and adolescents has notably increased in all age groups for both males and females
over the past few decades. (Booth et al. 2003; Magarey et al. 2001). Growing evidence also suggests,
both nationally and internationally, children are more likely to be overweight if they come from
families with lower socioeconomically status. (Power Parsons 2000; Booth et al. 2001; Tennant et al.
2003). Back in 1995, an estimated 4.7% of males and 5.5% of female children aged 7 15 years were
obese and a further 15.3% of males and 16.0% of females were overweight. (Margarey et al. 2001) In
the ten years preceding 1995, the prevalence of obesity had tripled (Magarey et al. 2001). From a
survey of NSW primary school children ages 7 11 years in 2000, the prevalence of overweight was as
high as 26.2% in boys and 28.4% in girls. The prevalence of obesity was recorded to be as

Nail Polish Research Papers
There are dozens of brands of nail polish in hundreds of colors and textures. Of these brands several
make the claim to be the fastest drying. However, do all nail polishes dry at the same speed? Does the
brand, texture or even color make a difference in the speed at which a nail polish dries? It is my belief
that polish of a thinner consistency would dry the quickest. Based on the consistency of the four
brands I will be experimenting with, this leads me to believe that Sally Hansen Insta dri will be the
fastest drying nail polish.
What is nail polish? Nail polish is a form of paint that can be applied to fingernails or toenails to
decorate them. All nail polish contains the same basic ingredients: Nitrocellulose, resins and solvents,
plasticizer, and dyes or pigments. Beyond the basic ingredients, each brand may include a dozen more
ingredients for shine, texture or so on. One of the main ingredient, ... Show more content on

Essie brand currently has the most variety of colors and textures. Acrylic nails were first introduced in
1978 and were actually invented by a dentist! In the 1930 s nail polish cost about .35 cents. The most
expensive nail polish cost $250,000 and was made with diamonds. In 2012, nail polish sales were
$768 million. Nail polish and nail salons continues to see growth.
Experiment and Conclusion. Nail polish today comes in so many different forms, different colors,
different cost, but all contain the same basic formula. Despite the texture, color or type of polish used,
most brands direct you to put on thin coats, allowing each coat to dry before applying a new coat.
Most brand states it takes 2 full minutes for each coat to sufficiently dry. For my experiment I looked
at four brands, two that are designed for quick dry and marketed that way, plus two that are simple
basic nail polish.

Health Care At The United States
Health care in the United States has become a major concern to many Americans. Health care is a part
of every person s life to ensure we continue to live a long eventless life. Many Americans cannot
afford the high prices for proper treatment to stay healthy when in need of care. The United States has
the highest cost for health care amongst the world; to mitigate these costs, we need additional support
from the government to negotiate set standards between health care providers, fewer malpractice
lawsuits, and fewer uninsured residents.
According to Davis, Stremikis, Squires, Schoen (2014), among the eleven nations that were discussed
in the article, the United States ranked first in the cost of health care within the country. The United
States differs from the other countries by not having universal health insurance. With the absence of
universal coverage in the United States, people still go without health care far more often than
countries due to the higher cost for health care. Another study shows the United States ranking low
when it comes to the safety and care of patients (Davis, Stremikis, Squires, Schoen, 2014). When it
comes to efficiency, the U.S. ranks last on the report compared to the other eleven countries. One main
reason it ranked so low is do to the increase in the amount of medical test that is performed. Studies
found in Davis, Stremikis, Squires, Schoen (2014), show Americans that are below average income

Divine Command Theory And Utilitarianism
The divine command theory states that an action is only moral if commanded by God. A utilitarian
believes an action is moral if it benefits everyone associated with the action, whether it is being done

interest. Robin would be immoral in the divine command theory, and theory of utilitarianism and does

According to the divine command theory, Robin actions would be immoral. If the divine command

Therefore, in Robin s action of stealing, although he believes it is for the benefit of the poor, he is

Germs Chapter 11 Summary
Andrew Gonzalez
Chapter 11 Food production led to the causes of many things, some such as germs carried by farmers
usually, technology, and literacy. Infections and diseases were led by various animals, being around
them or being involved with them caused this. Some of the major diseases we get as humans are
smallpox, tuberculosis, flu, plague, measles, malaria, and cholera. These are evolved and mainly
gotten from animals, usually animals like house pets or farm animals, since humans interact with them
more than other kinds of animals. Germs and microbes pass through victims and spread around fairly

Germs on the other hand tend to make us sick in a way, causing things to act differently like our

Why People From Europe And Asia Have Developed Faster...
Prologue: Yali s Question
In this chapter, Diamond discussed why people from Europe and Asia have developed faster than
people from the Americas, Australia, and Africa. He asserts that it is not because of any genetic
superiority that the current unequal distribution of wealth and power exists. Diamond was inspired to
write this book because of a question posed to him by a Papua New Guinean named Yali. Yali inquired
as to whom white people have more cargo (material possessions) than Papua New Guineans. Many in
Papua New Guinea are still hunter gatherers while Europeans, North Americans, and the East Asians
have industrial societies with high levels of wealth, power, and technology. In Papua New Guinea,
survival is more of an intelligence ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

them to be a world power.
Chapter 1: Up To The Starting Line
This chapter starts off by explaining the evolution of the first human ancestors, which originated
around seven million years ago. Historians and scientists were able to conclude that the closest living
relatives of humans are the gorilla, bonobo, and the chimpanzee. All humans from the start originated
and evolved in Africa. Of the many evolutionary stages of humans, Homo erectus was the first to
migrate outward into other areas. Neanderthals have constantly been portrayed as unintelligent,
desolate, and inconsiderate creatures, from past and present points of perspective, but evidence from
archeological digs show they essentially cared for their sick and buried their dead. The Great Leap
Forward is what Jared Diamond calls the earliest signs or evidence of uniform tools, bone tools,
jewelry, and much more. This great leap was estimated to be around 50,000 years ago. Around the
same period, hominids began to spread to New Guinea and Australia. As hominids adapted to their
new surroundings, large animal species were wiped out because they weren t evolved to defend
themselves against hominids and other predators. The extinction of many large animal species in
Eurasia occurred shortly after

Murderer in The Family
It was a hot day, sunny and wet. Kendall and her mother Cheri were moving into a new house with her
new father Tom and his daughter Courtney. Kendall slowly unpacked her belongings into her new
light blue room. She had shoulder length brown wavy hair. Her fair skin was red from moving boxes
inside. Her blue crystal eyes scoped out her new house. Courtney was in her green room next door.
Her blonde hair pulled into a messy bun, sweat running down her rosy cheeks. Her emerald eyes
glowed from the window light. Courtney was ironically two months younger than Kendall so they
went to school together. They were both in their senior year, they were so excited for college.
Courtney often braged to her father about how excited she was for NYU.
The family settled quickly. Two weeks later the house finally felt like a home. It was time for exams.
Kendall and Courtney spent their weekends studying. It took a taxing amount of effort. The girls were
constantly breathing in the weathered paper from books. There fingers often cramped from keyboard
clicks.
Exams came. The students sat down to take the test that were going to determine their future. Kendall
remained calm, controlling her nerves. She had eaten a good breakfast and gotten plenty of sleep. She
was well prepared. The questions felt strangely ok to her. She understood what to reply. But every so
often she still got confused. Courtney in another room was taking the test, her fingers clenched her

World War One s Influences on the Abdication of Tsar...
What was the significance in WW1 in bringing about the abdication of Tsar Nicholas II in March
1917?
The Romanov dynasty began in 1613, however 1917 saw an abrupt end to the Romanov s with the
abdication of Tsar Nicholas II. Demonstrations and strikes gripped the Russian people and with anti
governmental soldiers taking control, the Tsar had no alternative but to abdicate. Historians such as
Michael Lynch1 and John Daborn2 state that in Russia s great need of strength and power came a Tsar
of weakness and limited outlook. However historians such as Ray Pearson believe that in aggressive
opposition groups and with the help of the working class aimed to bring down the Tsardom at all
costs.
The argument that the First World War led to the downfall of the Tsardom in Russia is supported by
how unprepared the military were from the outset and throughout the war. Poor conditions and lack of
weaponry led to low morale. Production of weapons was seriously flawed as seen in the Russian front
at Gorlice, where many soldiers had no rifles and had to wait for a comrade to be killed before taking
his weapon 3. By the end of December 1914, 6,554,000 men had been mobilized with only 4,652,000
rifles available to them 4. Furthermore the appalling conditions that were reported in the Russian
trenches caused outbreaks of diseases such as typhoid and cholera creating tensions amongst Russia s
indestructible army 5. The dreadful conditions caused soldiers to turn against their

Reel Injun Stereotypes
Reel Injun and Misrepresentation and Native Stereotyping on Screen
Misrepresentation of Natives on screen throughout the 20th century has had an adverse effect on them.
Whether it was positive or negative stereotypes, Natives felt the effect of Hollywood and began to lose
their self identity, their honour, and their pride. Reel Injun takes a look at how movies have defined an
entire race and also documents the rebirth of the Native identity after decades of destructive
Hollywood movies by interviewing notable Native actors, actresses, and activists. By doing so,
director Neil Diamond hopes to silence Hollywood stereotypes and get Hollywood to properly
represent the Native people.
Hollywood s early depictions of Natives consisted of tribesmen and noble savages who are in tune
with Nature. Films such as The Silent Enemy portray these stereotypes on screen with actors like
Chief Buffalo Child Long Lance being shown as tribesmen who are very noble Natives. Although
these stereotypes are positive, they are still stereotypes nonetheless. These stereotypes have caused ...

  • 2. Compare And Contrast Kennedy And Nixon Election Kennedy and Nixon Elections in the United States of America John F. Kennedy vs. Richard Nixon In 1960 the Cold War tensions were rising, therefore the election campaign was mainly dominated by this topic. Public opinion polls showed that more than a half of American people thought the war with the Soviet Union was inevitable. The two candidates who ended up chasing after the presidency were a barely known democrat senator John F. Kennedy and vice president republican Richard Nixon. They both promised more advanced science and technology in order to win the race with communism in these fields. At the beginning of his campaign, Kennedy promised he would get the nation moving again and stated that the United States would have the will and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The two candidates are similar with the previous examples. Senator from Illinois Barack Obama, who ran as a democrat, was rather new, but he had ideas of change. Republican candidate John McCain was very experienced and it wasn t the first time for him to compete for presidency. It is said that people were choosing between change and experience and at some point the votes were almost balanced. John McCain is a strong conservative who defends integrity and moral values. He followed his father and became a naval aviator. McCain was almost killed Vietnam War, so he was well respected by his contenders and considered as a charismatic man beyond his political circle of acquaintances. However, he is a moderated republican who doesn t hesitate to take a different position than his republican fellows. Barack Obama is the first African American president in the history and has spoken often of his multicultural background: his father was from Kenya and his mother from Kansas, and they met at the University of Hawaii. Obama is frequently referred to as an exceptional orator and a great part of independents and young people support ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Green Consumerism Literary Submission University of Waterloo Faculty of Environment ENBUS 306: Research Design Literary Review and Submission on Green Consumerism Prepared By: Wendy Ngai Student ID: 20351676 3B Environment and Business October 02, 2012 This literary submission will take on a systematic, convergent approach in focusing on five separate articles regarding green consumerism. The five peer reviewed articles which have been selected for this paper have been placed in the appendix of this submission in the order in which they appear in the bibliography. A key point which is continuously brought up within each article is that environmental consumerism is becoming more and more prevalent in today s society (Mazar and Zhong, 2009). Although there ... The article also identifies the green consumer as often very skeptical of green advertising in general, which results in their own adoptive means of conducting alternative research so that they are well informed prior to making a purchase (Shrum et. Al, 1995). As well, Auger s article provided supporting evidence to this point by restating that active information seekers were often more apt to adopt socially ethical products (Auger et al, 2003). Several types of research methods were used to reach these conclusions, including the use of primary data collected through ethical disposition surveys and choice experiment surveys (Auger et al, 2003). An extensive amount of secondary research was also pulled together, with some data sets being analyzed to determine the conclusive results (Shrum et. Al, 1995). However, it is noted within each paper that there are gaps which exist within each article s research design. For example, some surveys were only targeted at a certain demographics, leading to a relatively homogeneous study groups (Haytko and Matulich, 2007), while other data sets did not reflect the general population, as some secondary data either over represented or underrepresented certain populations, resulting in an incomprehensive analysis of data (Shrum et. Al, 1995). As a result, gaps can be observed in both the research questions conducted within these articles, as well as the

Lizzie Borden Guilty Essay Lizzie Borden Murder trial The borden house,Lizzie, her parents, the axe,Lizzie Borden is guilty. This is the story of a young woman named Lizzie Borden who is accused of whether she murdered her parents or not.In this essay I will give my evidence and reasoning on to why I think Lizzie is guilty. In today s perspective people would argue that Lizzie is guilty, but back in the old times when the murder happened people would have a stronger belief to that she is not guilty.I think that Lizzie Borden is guilty. One vital reason why Lizzie Borden is guilty is because she burned her dress. In the article The trial of Lizzie Borden:an accountant it states that Lizzie was caught by her sister Emma Borden burning the dress that she wore on the day of the murder, when her sister asked what she was doing she replied with I am going to burn this old thing up,it is covered with paint.Lizzie borden burning her dress that she wore on the day of the murder makes her guilty in my opinion. This evidence suggests Lizzie s guilt because she wore that same dress on the day of the murder. She simply could of threw it out or put it away, there was point of burning it up because there were other reason to solve her problem.Due to the fact of Lizzie burning the dress backs up her guilt. ... • 6. The, And Administrative Decrees Documented During The... After Alexander the Great conquest of Egypt in 332 BC, Egypt was ruled for the following three centuries by the foreign Greek dynasty of the Ptolemies. Although Egypt was subjugated by Alexander in 332 BC it wasn t actually until 305 BC that the Ptolemaic dynasty was officially established. Ptolemaic Egypt would have been considered one of the two greatest powers in the Hellenic East. However, there is evidence that shows that the first troubles that Ptolemaic Egypt had to face actually originated from Egypt itself. These troubles were formed largely due to the ethnic tension that had formed with the native Egyptians and the immigrated Greeks. There was a third community of people present in Ptolemaic Egypt at this time, these people being that of the Jewish faith (find better way to introduce this shit). It is the hope of this essay to prove through analyse of literary texts, papyri, and administrative decrees documented during the reign of the Ptolemaic dynasty that the tension between these two groups was extremely strong. This can be attributed to a fusion of the Greeks disdain for the native Egyptians and the Egyptians resentment of the Greeks due to the ill treatment they receive from them. Even from the very first migration of Greeks in Egypt, Ptolemaic Egypt was a bureaucracy were in which your social standing was determined by your race, and the prevailing ethnicity was that of the Greeks. • 7. Von Juraschek Friedrich von Hayek: Defender of Political Liberty Friedrich August von Hayek was born on May 8th, 1899 in Vienna to August von Hayek and Felicitas Hayek (née von Juraschek) and was the oldest of three boys. His father and both of his grandfathers were university professors and inspired young Friedrich to be a scholar. Franz von Juraschek, his maternal grandfather, was a renowned economics and a friend of the founder of the Austrian School of Economics, Eugen Böhm. As a young student, Hayek was very academically inclined. He read frequently and, at his father s prompting, read Hugo de Vries and Ludwig Feuerbach, the former a genetic scientist and the latter a philosopher who wrote a critique of Christianity. At school, he was greatly impressed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Keynesian economist favors strong government and therefore government intervention in times of trouble. However, Hayek argues that the government, as the central planner, cannot possibly know how consumers would prefer to have resources used in the production of good and services. This lack of knowledge, he calls the information problem for the central planner does not have enough information to adequately provide for the people s needs and therefore surpluses and shortages abound. Protecting protect property rights is the role of the government, Hayek stated. In his world famous book, The Road to Serfdom, he warns that government intervention will create unintended consequences which will make people clamor for more government help and lead to more government intervention and more problems. Ludwig von Mises, a close friend and colleague of Hayek, said that increasing government intervention would only lead to a socialist economy. To have economic freedom, political liberty is essential. In The Road to Serfdom, Hayek explains how when the government controls everything, they have power over the markets. This ties closely in with the idea that information is decentralized. The prices and amount of goods produced would all be controlled by the government. • 8. Review Of The Book Of Dibs The book of Dibs is a very interesting read, it is about a young boy who has a rich family and dad is a well known scientist and little sister gets all the attention and is a brat. Dibs attends a private school and doesn t receive the attention he needs from his home life. The teachers observe Dibs and his actions as he sits in the classroom or crawls around the room and hides. Dibs loves books and is always grabbing for some or finding some books to open. Dibs seems to come off to me as unsocial and bothered. In chapter 1, when they tell dibs that it is time to go home he doesn t want to move. To me it seems he doesn t want to go home because his parents or sister pays attention to him so he sits alone and quite. It seems his parents don t care about Dibs or care to figure out what is in his best interest. There has to be a reason when they tell Dibs it is time to go home he doesn t move or talk and balls up in his arms and won t listen or look at anyone, and throws a fit when they pick him up kicking screaming and crying or he just lets it happen and is quite and looks and feels defeated. I don t like in chapter one how everyone just overlooks him or doesn t show him enough attention or really tries to help him or see what is going on and how other parents look down upon him for his disability. Other parents don t want Dibs there either because he has scratched or has bitten their children and don t see that there is more going on with Dibs then him just being a socially ... • 9. Moby Dick Research Paper It is not everyday that a man is able to write himself into history, only the greatest and most daring writers are able to break the threshold of humanity and ascend into the history books. Growing up with two of the most influential grandfathers who were both Revolutionary heroes, Herman Melville grew into a great writer. Bankruptcy and the loss of his father at age 12 had such a big impact on Herman that he was taken out of school and forced to work. He self taught himself and briefly went back to school to study Engineering (Reiff 9 11). During his early 20s, Melville was unable to get a job in engineering. He faced economic hardships which influenced him to go on voyages as an escape from his problems. Sailing consisted of relaxing and romanticizing with beautiful islanders despite the horrors of military punishments he experienced (Reiff 13). From 1844 to 1857, Melville spent his years as a full time writer to gain prestige and money while supporting his family (American Experience). Melville became known for one of his novels, Moby Dick, which was dedicated to Nathaniel Hawthorne. Moby Dick is known as one of the Greatest American Novels because the story had an exciting plot, philosophical statements, many comparisons, and symbols making the novel very complex. The complexity of the literary writing symbolized romance, particularly the romance of the sea. The novel was based on the life of a sailor who experienced a tragic voyage and a white whale named Moby Dick. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. Essay on Investigative Reporting is the Driving Force in... Investigative reporting has been a driving force in journalism for centuries. The reporting tradition of revealing misconduct was already well established much before the 20th Century. Its practise even predates the publication of the first successful colonial newspaper in 1704, demonstrating the press watchdog role has had deep historical roots in democracy much prior to the 1960s. Over the past three centuries, investigative reporters have tried to make a difference by raising public consciousness about perceived wrongdoings. Prior to the early 1960s, investigative reporting was highly localised and sporadic. This was a reflection of the character of early journalism and the technological limits of communication. It was not until the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The second was an exclusive by Sunday Times Insight, whose reporter Ron Hall detailed the methods used by a criminal landlord, Peter Rachman, to terrorise tenants. These examples set a trend and by the late 1960s there were many new vehicles for investigative reporting in the national media. One of the most notable reporters of the time was Ron Hall, who has been considered to have virtually invented the art of investigative journalism in Britain, as one of a trio of young reporters in the 1960s, he created the insight team of the Sunday Times. Shortly after he joined the paper, the scandal of the Profumo affair broke so he began to produce a weekly detailed account of what had happened, digging deeper into the background story. Shortly after that, the first truly investigative article written by Hall was an account of the life and misdeeds of Rachman, the corrupt slum landlord. In the course of his 20 years on the paper, he was associated with some of its most important investigative stories, including the Philby spy scandal, thalidomide, and the remarkable disclosure that the yachtsman Donald Crowhurst, who had taken part in a round the world race, and had faked his journey, pretending to have orbited the globe. Ron Hall was one of the most influential and talented journalists of his time, an architect of the Sunday Times Insight pages and pioneered techniques of investigative journalism that altered the nature of much of the ... Nestlé is known to be one of the most hated companies in the world. Due to its several unethical activities (like child labor, mislabelling, price fixing, pollution, its marketing of baby formula in poor countries, etc.) that has received a lot of controversy and criticisms and even a long standing boycott from consumers. Specifically, friendships are amazing in that each one is different yet all friendships share several qualities. Although friendships are a very positive thing to have, they also come with costs. Friendships have always intrigued me, so I found it fascinating to learn about the impact they have and it gave me a new perspective to look at my own friendships. Friendships can be very different from one another but they all have recognizable characteristics. Men s friendships place more of a focus on shared activities and interests according to Floyd (2011). I personally find this quite accurate to examples in my life. On the other hand, opposite sex friendships are valuable as they allow both men and women to see things from each other s perspectives. Floyd (2011) says that opposite sex friendships allow men to be emotionally expressive and women to partake in shared activities. Many reasons can prevent an opposite sex friendship from becoming a romantic relationship. A lack of physical attraction, wanting to protect an existing friendship, and fear of rejection, are a few of the reasons Floyd (2011) lists. The final characteristic is that friendships have lifespans. An unfortunate reality, but as Floyd (2011) puts it, most friendships are initiated, maintained, and eventually many of them end. Now, i m going to explain where and how advertisers target our youth. To start off with, one big way marketers target our youth are at the store. Why? Simple because that s where they are selling there products and and where they target kids the most. Marketers try to make eye contact levels on their products so it attracts viewers eyes more easily. Their goal is to try to make interesting characters or thing that pop so that it seems cool or good to them so kids will want it. It is stated in the film Marketing to kids that Kids have to nag their parents approximately 9 times in order for them to respond or get them whatever it is they want. They use that strategy because their parents will eventually get tired of hearing them and let them get the product. Advertisers probably use this method a lot to get marketers. Everyone is human, they feel pain, excitement, emotion, actually maybe not emotion. Emotions are typically innate, sadness, happiness, but what about empathy? Slavery brought extreme empathy to some, but showed the void of empathy in others. Those lacking empathy can either be violent or depressed. They cannot feel for others, have no reason to try to find a connection. One major question exists, is empathy a learned emotion? Throughout the moving, enlightening, and harsh Fredrick Douglass autobiography, Narrative of the Life of Fredrick Douglass, an American Slave, the former slave truly reflects on what the public is being kept from hearing about: actual slave attitudes. Written in 1845, around the time the strongest abolitionist movements were in the beginning stages, the recently freed slave provided a semi live feed of what reality for the slave is truly like. With his stories of an abandoned childhood and an under privileged education, Douglass provides the reader with the feelings, sights, and smells of living in his shoes. Taking a retrospective view of the topic, one can jump to the conclusion of slavery being an obvious example of inhumane labor, and one that needed to be dismantled immediately.
