Reflection Paper On Cultural Experience
For my cultural experience, I decided to connect with my roots. Even though I am Hispanic American,
my parents never truly exposed me to my Mexican culture. This assignment seemed like the perfect
opportunity to connect with elements of my heritage.
My parents were born and raised in downtown Joliet, so I went to them to ask them where the best
place would be to go find those types of experiences. They told me that the East side of Joliet would
be my best chance of experiencing a new cultural experience.
The following day, I decided to take a trip to this region. As I came closer to approaching the East
side, I noticed that the surroundings around me started changing quite drastically. A great percentage
of signs posted on billboards and businesses were written in Spanish. No English on the signs was
visible anywhere either. I also noticed that great amount of businesses that were being run by Hispanic
men. Considerably much greater than any businesses located in my neighborhood. I decided to stop at
a small corner store located right next to Joliet Central high school. The store was called
Supermercado Joliet . When I walked inside, I noticed that many of the products being sold weren t
the everyday product that I was used to seeing being sold in a Walmart or Jewel Osco in my
neighborhood. Many labels on the products sold were completely foreign to me. A middle aged man
behind the cash register noticed me glimpsing at the products and he approached me asking me

Final Exit Research Paper
Final Exit. The name is very to the point and feels like a way out in the darkness. As we were taught
as children if there is a fire in a building you head towards the exit signs. In this metaphoric example
the person s body is the building on fire and the exit is death. Although final exit is not the only way
out there are other organizations that will do the same thing. Among them Dignitas, Compassion and
choices, dignity in dying, exit, and the world federation of right to die societies are to name some.
What all these organizations have in common is there want to allow others a death with dignity. They
give those who are suffering a way out, when death is far better choice than living.
Dignitas Began in 1998 in Forch Switzerland. They open their doors with the statement to live with
dignity to die with dignity (Dignitas). Although soon they had to close those same doors after
neighbors started to complain about all the sirens. The interior of the Dignitas house, the place where
people go to die, is about as comfy as a three star hotel . Everything looks cheap and the colors clash.
The only comfortable looking thing in the room is the bed (Midgley). Although ... Show more content

Lethal overdose is the one most commonly used. In Oregon they use barbiturates, which is a drug that
effects the central nervous system. They are commonly called sleeping pills and are used for anxiety,
insomnia, and epilepsy. Overdose of it can cause the users to fall into a coma and then death (Lafferty,
Abdel Kariem and Bonhomme). Otherwise the doctor might prescribe Nembutal. It is a different form
of barbiturate that comes in a liquid. It is however, a lot more expensive. For 100 individual capsules
of barbiturates it costs $125, but for Nembutal it costs more than $1000. Both of these drugs after
being taken will put the patient into a coma and death will follow anywhere from half an hour to 48

My Experience In Canada
Ever wonder what walking the Great Wall of China would be like? Ever dreamed of feeling the fresh
cold air of Canada? What s it like eating baguettes in France next to the Eiffel Tower? Traveling is a
popular dream among all of us, and making it a reality is a great learning experiences! I visited
Canada in April of 2017, and had a personal emotional attachment to the culture and the whole
environment, and the people I traveled with could say the same. Traveling is truly the most exciting
part in a person s life because it makes their dreams of meeting different cultures a reality and gives
them perspectives of seeing the world differently.
Traveling is an exciting learning experience. When people want to learn a different language, traveling
a different country will tremendously help them learn it. People usually learn their first language by
hearing it all the time by their family. When foreigners go to a different country, assimilating to the
language is much easier if they continue to hear it. When I visited Canada, and heard Canadian French
on the radio, in the streets, and in their music, it felt wonderful that I could understand what they were
saying and it made it easier actually processing the beautiful language. I always wondered why I
couldn t learn French that well in the United States of America, it s because I was so used to hearing
English all the time. This proves that traveling helps people learn languages better because hearing

The Woman In Black Analysis
How does the author make the first encounter with the Woman in Black particularly ominous?
The author, Susan Hill, makes the first encounter with the Woman in Black distinctly foreboding by
her use of description, sound and Mr Kipps s apparent innocence. The Woman in Black is described as
suffering from some terrible wasting disease which makes her skin only the thinnest layer of flesh [...]
strained across her bones . Immediately, the reader is given some clue about her health. It seems, from
the description, that she is on the verge of death. This association with death instantly makes the
representation of the Woman in Black creepier. Phrases like sunken back and gaunt with disease are
used to warn the reader and stop them pitying ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Most people tend to pray at funerals, particularly in the Victorian era when religion was a highly
significant part of people s lives. She is also quite late, arriving halfway to the end of it and then
disappearing before the cortège. There is also the obvious factor that it seemed particularly strange
that a woman who was perhaps only a short time away from her own death, should drag herself to the
funeral of another . To a reader, this seems decidedly minatory, since it is incredibly unlikely that
someone about to breathe their last would go to Mrs Drablow s burial, especially as Mrs Drablow was
known for having no close friends or family and the only other people at her funeral (besides the
Parson) were her solicitors. Lastly, on the off chance she just didn t have a prayer book and actually
was Mrs Drablow s long lost relative or forgotten friend, as Mr Kipps clearly believed, she
disappeared with a slight rustle of clothing . Finally, there is Mr Kipps s reaction to his first encounter
with the Woman in Black. Of course he didn t know she was the Woman in Black; instead he saw her
as a young woman who was about to die but kind enough to see her friend off. Indeed, he vowed to
speak to her [to see if he] could be of any assistance . Susan Hill makes him pity the Woman in Black,
yet warns the reader with short sentences like Nor did she look old , followed by abnormally long
sentences, joined together with three or four commas, as if contradicting Mr Kipps s earlier thoughts
in a way that can only be interpreted fully by the

Boeing Airlines And The Defense Market Essay
Company s Market
Boeing may only be one company, but they compete in two different markets: commercial airlines and
the defense industry. The main competition in the commercial airline market is Airbus. Airbus and
Boeing seem to have the commercial airline industry in a chokehold basically having no other
competitors. Since the industry has high barriers to entry they will not see much competition anytime
soon. Boeing is the American leader in commercial airplanes and Airbus is the European leader, which
means they are constantly battling. Their competing aircrafts are the Airbus A380 and the Boeing 747.
Both companies have many variations of their respected aircraft and according to Business Insider,
Airbus A380 outranks the Boeing 747 based on cost, range, size and luxury.
The defense market, Boeing aligns itself in is more complex than their commercial airline market.
Boeing s main competitor in this market is Lockheed Martin and Raytheon Company. Even though all
these companies may compete, each with each other they often create joint ventures because the
defense industry requires a diverse product mix that one company may not be able to fulfill. One
example of these ventures is when Boeing and Lockheed Martin come to together to own/operate
Hellfire Systems, LLC which allows for both companies to sell AGM 114 Hellfire Missiles. This
missile is used in the United States Army, Navy and Air Force so this is a very profitable venture for
both Lockheed Martin and Boeing.

Health Care Interface Design
Interface Design for Healthcare Abstract. This paper is mainly discussing about the user interface
design problems faced by the healthcare professionals in the healthcare industry with the applications
in their handheld devices that assist them in dealing with daily routine work. The authors attempt to
identify and address the key problems from the previous researches. To tackle these issues, a mobile
user interface (UI) framework is reviewed as the basis for discussion and suggestion for improving
future interface design for healthcare. The discussion also includes case study on the interface design
of an existing medical applications available on iPhone as the example of evaluation.

Typically, the medical information is delivered inside one display window on the handheld device.
Only part of the information is seen as it squeezed with other elements, for example, navigation
buttons, menu, and etc. to fit into the window. Most of the browsers in the computer are able to switch
to full screen display and this function enable users to hide the unwanted toolbars temporary while
increasing screen space for information display. However, this was not available on the browser of

3.2 Scrolling is Not Good Design for Healthcare Interface Design
On top of that, research shows that most of the users do not like the scrolling button. Especially for
users of healthcare information, they all agreed with the suggestion that scrolling should be avoided or
at least minimized. In some interface design researches (e.g. Albers amp; Kim, 2001); researchers
propose dragging the content presented on a screen as another solution for this problem. But this way
has been proved that users are still not comfortable in other studies. As mentioned in previous research
papers, healthcare information in the PDA devices should be able to use visualization and interactivity
and minimize amount of text as much as possible on a screen. Scrolling is obviously not function for
this purpose. Usually, information of healthcare for learning is better

Why Is Swing Better Than Traditional Jazz
A few years later that jazz was born in 1930 another style was created and it is call swing. Also called
the big band era because they used more instruments than early jazz. Why swing was the most popular
style of jazz? The reason was because it gave people that swing feeling they wanted the one that made
people dance. Is swing better than traditional jazz? It may be popular but that does not mean that one
is better than the other it was just different in a way that attract to many people and it is hard to
describe what swing feeling really means. The instrumentation used in swing music consisted in five
saxophones, four trumpets and four trombones as the front line and the rhythm section with the guitar,
bass, piano and drums. This instrumentation gave a strong and hot style that people were crazy about.
Always keeping the essence of jazz improvising and keeping the swing feeling although in swing
there were not collective improvisations. Using more instruments allowed musicians to have an
advanced ability in terms of tone, control and speed while they are playing a melody. Because big
bands in the swing era could not do collective improvisations bands started to use more arrangements
and the improvisation was only with solos. Duke Ellington was one of the most influential musician

Homeless Population Of New South Wales
Overview In a country as prosperous as Australia, no one should have to be homeless.
The Road Home, 2008
Homelessness is a complex problem and not simply a lack of housing. It has numerous causes that
affect different groups differently. In Australia, there are approximately 105000 people experiencing
homelessness reported in the 2011 census. This equates to one in every two hundred people. The
homeless population of New South Wales accounts for over one quarter of the total in Australia, at
over 28000. One is considered to be homeless if they do not have access to safe, secure and adequate
housing. Homelessness generally refers to three types of homelessness with varying severity.

the size of the CBD.
Focus
This report aims to address the issue of homelessness and give detailed information in regards to the
topic, as well as to answer the following questions.
¬ What are the main causes of homelessness in the Sydney CBD?
¬ How are the homeless affected (physical mental) and what actions are they taking?
¬ How are other members of society affected?
¬ What actions have been taken reduce the rate of homelessness and its effects?
¬ What actions could be taken to reduce the rate of homelessness and its effects?
In Regards to Accuracy
It is important to address the issues and limitations that may be present in this report. Recent and
reliable reports on the homeless is severely lacking, likely as a result of the sensitivity of the issue.
Similarly, the Sydney CBD is an extremely specific area and much of the information collected is not
specific to this area. Much of the information collected were extrapolated from data that covered a
larger area. As such, it is important to recognise that due to the nature of the data collected, the
information presented may be inaccurate or biased. Causes of Homelessness There are numerous
causes to homelessness. Specific events can cause homelessness, such as losing a job, eviction or

Gesture To Understand The Relationship Between Language...
Why people use gesture when they speak? People use gestures when they talk, but is this behavior

goal of this article is to understand the contribution that these gestures make to how we communicate

gesture s contribution to how language is produced and understood in the moment; its contribution to
how we learn language and other cognitive skills. I find that the gestures speakers produce when they
talk are integral to communication and can be harnessed in a number of ways. Gesture provides
building blocks that can be used to construct a language. By watching how children and adults who do

Emile Durkheim s The Elementary Forms Of The Religious Life
Émile Durkheim s The Elementary Forms of the Religious Life examines religion through a social
viewpoint, while Claude Lévi Strauss s The Savage Mind compares modern and primitive thought.
Although their topics of interest differ, both works similarly rely on science to explain their
anthropologic theories. Science serves as a useful reference point, since it embodies modern mode of
thinking with high objectivity. Therefore, these writers can expand on their analysis of other ways to
perceive the world by comparing and contrasting with science. The relations created between science
and organized human thought unravel how these anthropologists view science. Durkheim s and Levi
Strauss s allusions to science support their respective arguments about religion and mythical thought,
while revealing anthropology s general perspective of science.
Durkheim argues that religion shares fundamental qualities with science, exposing his beliefs on the
purpose of science. First, Durkheim notes, most of the time debates on the topic of religion turn
around and about on the question of whether religion can or cannot be reconciled with science
(Durkheim 419). Religion s compatibility with the modern world of science comes into question, due
to the cosmological aspects being disproved with empirical evidence. In many theorists eyes, religion
would be an internal system of beliefs expressed externally and material with rites. However,
Durkheim would contend to think about the religion

The Importance Of Oppression
Oppression can be seen all over the world, in almost any culture, during almost any time during
history. Oppression can happen to anyone, but it usually happens to minority racial or social groups.
Society and its institutions often reinforce and stand by this oppression. Racism is very prevalent in
America even to this day, though many claim we have overcome our oppressive history. Addressing
this oppression can be incredibly difficult, not only for those being oppressed, but also for those who
want to stand up for those groups. While it may be difficult to address oppressive structures, it is not
impossible. Oppression can control one s life and take a toll on their well being. Addressing
oppressive structures can only happen when people or a group of people are able to make it their
ultimate concern, and then come together as one to fight back. Tillich s notion of Ultimate Concern is
very important in addressing oppressive structures. Faith is the state of being ultimately concerned: the
dynamics of faith are the dynamics of man s ultimate concern (Tillich, pg. 1). An ultimate concern is
the concern above all concerns; it essentially is the most important thing in one s life, and once they
overcome it they will experience total fulfillment. People have a variety of ultimate concerns, but
since oppression is such a damaging and life consuming injustice, those who are affected by it most
likely have the ultimate concern of overcoming it. Tillich even says But man in

Igbo Rites Of Passage Essay
The Igbo culture is very unique. It is vibrant, lively, and full of traditions that have been around since
the founding of the tribe. Some of these traditions include rites of passage. These rites of passage
signify a change in the life of a person in the Igbo tribe. The rites of passage in the Igbo culture occur
at birth, when a person reaches the age in which they want to build a family, and at death.
The first rite of passage that a person of Igbo culture will go through takes place only a few days after
birth. This rite of passage is known as the naming ceremony. In this rite, a newborn baby is part of a
very important ceremony where his or her parents chose a name for the child. This is a very special
occasion because the name given to the child will be stuck with them forever. Igbo names can hold
deep meaning. The name given to a child can determine the reputation that they have for the rest of
their life. In the book Things Fall Apart , by Chinua Achebe, a woman named Ekwefi has multiple
children who die. After her children continue to die, she names her daughter Ozoemena, which means
may it not happen again . Parents of the Igbo tribe have a unique way of using names to show feelings
that they have for their child.

Martin Luther, And His Concept Of Christianity
This is an essay about Martin Luther, and his concept of Christianity. As a student and a unbiased
Christian, I enjoy studying all types of religions, and elements that encompass them. Luther began his
religious career as an Augustinian Monk in the Roman Catholic Church. So, Luther was initially loyal
to the papacy, and even after many theological conflicts, he attempted to bring about his understanding
with the Church. But this was a contradiction not to suffer because in his later years, Luther waged a
continual battle with the papacy. Luther was to become a professor of biblical exegesis at Wittenberg
where, in 1957, he posted his critique of the Roman Catholic Church s teachings and practices. This is
otherwise known as The Ninety Five Theses, which is usually considered to be the original document
of the Reformation. The Reformation was very controversial then, and, from a historical viewpoint, it
still is today. Luther played a large part in the movement, and I was interested I doing a research to
uncover what was the issue with religion. Basically, this document was an indictment of the venality
of the Roman Catholic Church, particularly the widespread practice of selling indulgences in
association with the sacrament of penance. Luther s beliefs on the matter were that after confession,
absolution relied upon the sinner s faith and God s Divine Grace rather than the intervention of a
priest. Martin Luther was a man that made a huge impact not only on those in

Coral Growth
As mentioned several times above, coral growth is the key to a formation of any type of reef. Free
swimming coral larvae find homes on submerged rocks or stable surfaces nearby the edges of land.
Colonies of coral form as calcium carbonate skeletons accumulate and begin to be bounded by
surrounding corals. The polyps continues to secrete calcareous skeletons that form protective
structures they will reside in. The protective structure is like a sort of cup the polyp sits under, and
new hard skeletons grow/forms as the coral polyp lifts and releases new calcium carbonate
framework. Coral reproduces asexually, the polyp buds and new, genetically identical coral polyps
develop. The cycle continues and the coral spreads over a relatively short period of time. The first
formation of coral begins a platform for other new coral to settle and form. These skeletons make up a
majority of the reefs framework, however these are other small organisms that contribute to the
formation. Fire corals, which are more closely related to hydrozoans than actual corals, also deposit
large amounts of calcium carbonate that add to the construction. Calcareous algae that live on the
actual coral, begin to deposit calcium carbonate within their tissue. As they die ... Show more content

Male Gaze Sparknotes
Stacey, J. (1993) Star gazing: Hollywood cinema and female spectatorship. New York: Routledge.
The author, Jackie Stacey is a British feminist film historian. The main goal of her research is to
understand the specific pleasure and engagements of British cinema audiences in the 1940s and 1950s.
Stacey received 350 letters from women who went to the cinema 2 3 times a week during this period
of wartime as cinema going was at an all time high. Within the book, Stacey discusses Laura Mulvey s
Male Gaze and how Mulvey s analysis of the pleasures of Hollywood cinema led her to conclude that
the spectator position offered is a masculine one. She talks about how there are 3 looks within the
dominant mode of Hollywood cinema; the camera(man), the editor and the director. She emphasizes
on how all of these looks work together to create the effect of seeing the female characters as objects
of desire through the eyes of the male characters.
However, Stacey argues that women do not have to adopt the dominant masculine position offered by
the text in order to gain pleasure from looking at the female characters. Stacey describes Mulvey s
work as an attack on the visual pleasures of Hollywood cinema (page 24). She broadens her argument
to state the distance between spectator and screen contributes to the voyeuristic pleasure of ... Show

president is an accomplished liar. Both of Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump are using the political
skills to argue because their major party candidates for president have to appear to be fully qualified to
occupy the Oval Office. After watching of these videos of both Hillary and Trump s speech, in my
opinion, I analyze three types of informal fallacies from their speeches such as argument against the
person, hasty generalization, and appeal to people; especially, appeal to vanity.
First of all, for the beginning of Donald Trumps speech, he blames both of Obama and Hillary who
related to the rising of ISIS and the war in the Middle East. He also blames about the four year after
Hillary got in charge of American s foreign policy that her bad instincts and argument ... Show more

In fact, everyone wants to be loved, admired, valued, and recognized and accepted by other;

she highly mentioned about the benefits for women and how she will work with them to make that
come true. Thus, she will get more interested from women; especially, young women. She also
mentioned about other community services that she worked with to help other people such as
disability students. Additionally, she argued back to Trump that how he divided people and this
country by fearing of others and building the wall to stop immigrants. She wants to help and build a

I Am Hard-Personal Narrative
I VE LEARNED Due to my comparatively insignificant age, I haven t learned many Oprah worthy
lessons in my life. Although I am young, I feel that a certain lesson in particular has been key to my
small but important successes. I ve learned that working hard will demand your respect no matter who
you are. I continue to apply this life long lesson on the wrestling mats with my coaches at every meet,
practice, and free time.
It was the Bend City Championships (wrestling). My palms were sweaty, my face tomato red, and my
heart was pounding, due to the 7 testosterone filled, middle school boys, in my bracket. Luckily, I had

Charli and Lazarus! our future ref shouted impatiently.
Do we have a Charli and Lasarus here? he said with a roll of his eyes.
I m here I said with as much confidence as I could mustar.
Here spit Lazarus looking back at his snake like buddy s.
You know the drill, shake hands I shook hands as respectful as I could knowing that anyone with
enough guts to set foot on any wrestling mat at least deserves a genuine handshake. I readied myself.
Twweeeeetttt! the whistle blow furiously and we were off. There was a quick glance into eachothers

Japanese Dining History and Foods of Izakaya and Japanese...
Japanese cuisine has developed over two hundred years and influenced by both China and Korea. In
Asia, rice has been the major staple food in many countries. However, in Japan, rice has also been
used to brew sake, a traditional alcohol drink which always appears in every kinds of Japanese

The common foods in izakaya are yakitori, grilled beef tongue, beef tataki, tempura, butter clams,

In medieval times, most people only ate two or three types of food. After the agricultural revolution,
peasants did not have a lot of access to a variety of food. They grew what they ate, which was also

I am a Ewell.
For anyone living in my small, hole in the wall town called Maycomb, that would be enough. Four

orange rinds and month old breads and pastries from the bakery I d never visited. Random pieces of
waste littered the lawn, but not enough to cover Mayella s beloved geraniums. They were the brightest
shade of scarlet red you d ever seen, but you would almost miss them as you passed by on the street.
They were her form of faith, her aspiration to live with some dignity. I don t know if she knows, but I

the grayscale of our life. Some days I dreamt of being my own geranium, of being able to project

Medical Aspects of Running and Running related Injuries
Runners are the healthiest sick people in the world , according to ultrarunner Jeff Robbins. In an email
that I received from him he added, One of the problems with the ultras is that you are always stressing
things to the limits. Therefore problems tend to crop up. Half the fun in this sport is learning to deal
with adversity no matter how it comes. Injury is a runner s most dreaded and aggravating obstacle.
Sometimes no matter how much the mind wills it, the body cannot go on without causing itself
permanent damage. Pushing beyond these limitations will eventually cause the body to rebel and self

Jason Hodde, Jeff Robbins, Norm Yarger, and Karl King each personally emailed me with insightful
information on running related injuries. The listserve is such a great interactive source of information.
Who better to learn from but the runners themselves? They are the ones who have to cope with the
injuries. Any amount of personal experience through trial and error is better advice than book
knowledge. This is the reason why so many runners advise that running related injuries should be
taken to a doctor who has running experience because he will be more inclined to look to rectify the
cause of the injury instead of resorting to surgery.
The best way to prevent injuries from occurring is to take the appropriate precautionary actions. The
first major rule is: don t strain. The majority of running injuries occur from overtraining. It is
important for a runner to incorporate hard days and easy days into his/her exercise routine. You need
to give your body time to rest so that it can repair itself. Fatigue accumulates and if you don t ease up
occasionally, you won t improve. Being overtired will eventually lead to injury because your body
needs a chance to recover and strengthen itself. Also, avoid doing too much too soon. Dr. Stephen
Pribut suggests that Mileage should usually only be increased approximately ten percent per week.
Every third week, you should drop back a small amount. For most runners one or two days a week, at
least, should be devoted to rest or

In Grendel by John Gardner, twelve philosophies are connected to each one of the twelve chapters in
the novel. These philosophies are all coats that the main character, Grendel, tries on to see if he truly
aligns and believes in the philosophy. Similarly, I, throughout my fifteen years of living, have tried on
coats of philosophies and align specifically with parts of two philosophies present in Grendel:
Empiricism and the philosophy of Nietzsche. Empiricism is the philosophy that professes all
knowledge comes from sense experience, and the primary aspect of Nietzsche s philosophy is that
tragedy is the affirmation of life. Ultimately, because of the experiences I have had in my life, I have

The trials and tribulations all humans face becomes prominent as each individual succumbs to evil in
attempts of recreating his or her lost civilization. Out of each dark moment the individual faces,
flourishes a new state of human consciousness that is consistent in revealing one s true nature. In the
Lord of the Flies, the transition the three young boys make into adulthood is evident as their
significance and their newfound identity becomes more pronounced. Simon s particular incident
involves his encounter with the Lord of the Flies , where he comes to terms with the innate evil that
resides within all humanity, causing him to be an ambassador for self realization. Ralph s test of faith

There was no solemn assembly for debate nor dignity of the conch (196). At this point, Jack has the
total control of the island, showing that the savage part of humanity has succeeded. After his
consciousness evolves, the light of humanity is seen through Ralph s trials and tribulations, revealing
his nature as a civilized leader. Throughout the novel, Ralph symbolizes order, structure and
leadership. Nevertheless, he has faced many trials that test his faith, proving that he is a classic
example of a person that is a product of his society s morals and values. In a world that demands
individuals to conduct themselves according to the values and morals imposed by the society, it is
often difficult to find those that exhibit an innate sense of compassion. Simon is a character that
proves to be one with nature and shows an immediate liking to his new environment. Therefore, when
the others resorted to savagery, he still had not lost his gentleness and compassion. His encounter with
the Lord of the Flies exposes the truth about the beast and as a result, causes his consciousness to
evolve. This reveals his true nature as a kindhearted and an honest person. As promised, the Lord of
the Flies did have fun with him, ultimately causing his death in attempts of spreading the truth
amongst the other boys. The Lord of the Flies states: There isn t anyone to help you. Only me. And I

In any organization, a person can see the five bases of power at work, some powers more than others
depending on the individual in charge and the circumstances. The power used by such individuals can
affect communication within the organization, whether positive or negative. There are five bases of
power, being coercive, reward, legitimate, expert and personal.
Coercive power, reward power and legitimate power are all formal powers. A person s position in a

The Police Chief also has reward power in that he has the power to promote or give raises in the
department.
The Fire Safety officer in the department is a Sergeant, has been with the University 13 years, longer
than anyone else and is an expert in his field of work. Because of this, he exercises more of the
personal power, such as expert and referent power. When it comes to any information or equipment
for the Department, he is the go to guy. He has also served in a supervisory capacity before and is
second in command to eh Police Chief, as well as the event coordinator for the Department. When he
speaks on a matter, everyone for the most part listens and complies with his directives. Because of his
personality, many of the employees consider him approachable and communicate well with him.
An example of legitimate power is exercised with the shift supervisors who consist of Sergeants and
Corporals. These ones have been given authority from the Police Chief to discipline individuals under
them on each shift or to handle petty matters. He backs these ones up on whatever decisions are made
on their shift provided it does not interfere with the policies of the University Police Department. If
problems do arise in the department, there is an open door policy where the employees are welcome to
discuss with the Chief or their immediate supervisor so that it can be resolved as soon as possible.

Antigone or Creon as the Tragic Hero in Antigone Essay
A tragic hero is a character in a play that is known for being dignified but has a flaw that assists in his
or her downfall. Antigone is a Greek tragic piece written by Sophocles. In the theatrical production the
use of power and morality versus law is evident. The promotion to the conflict was that Creon created
a law in which enabled Polynieces, Antigone s brother, to be buried in the proper way. As it is the way
of the gods Antigone found it fit to bury her brother causing her to disobey the law of Thebes. Both
Antigone and Creon, the main characters, could represent a tragic hero. However Creon is more
eligible for being the tragic hero because he fits the definition. Aristotle s idea of a tragic hero was that

Creon orders the guards to take Antigone away not caring for his son s feelings, since she is his
fiancée. Creon feels the law should stand despite the fact that Antigone was his niece or how moral her
act was. Bring her [Antigone] out! Let her die before his eyes... (Scene 3, 130). This quotes shows that
Creon took his position as king seriously to the point where in he was willing to sacrifice the feelings
of his own son. He was willing to be the cause of son s destruction just to prove that he is the king and
always right. I will go... I buried her, I will set her free (scene 5, 102,104). Not only does this quote
show leadership but also stubbornness he was risking his relationship with his son to prove that he was
the leader of Thebes. Creon says another quote which shows his loyalty to his kingdom, I call to God
to witness that if I saw my country headed for ruin, I should not be afraid to speak out plainly,
(Sophocles, scene 1,24 26). It shows his strong sense of leadership which catches up with him in the
end causing destruction.
Tragic heroes have identifiable flaws which cause their destruction. In this situation Creon s major
flaw was that he was self centered, and never listened he thought he was always right. Haemon points
out that Creon needs to stop being narrow minded and stubborn, ...Not far off when you shall pay back
corpse for corpse... (Scene 5, 72 73). Teiresias the fortune teller warns Creon that his inflexible ways

The Dynamic Character In Carver s Cathedral By Raymond Carver
In the short story Cathedral by Raymond Carver, the narrator is a dynamic character because of the
way his thoughts adjust throughout the entirety of the story. The beginning of the story shows the
narrator only being able to see physical things with his eyes. By the end, the narrator sees a different
perspective through his imagination. Robert, the blind man that visits the narrator and his wife, brings
out the imagination from within the narrator. The narrator is a dynamic character because he changes
his judgment of Robert from a more prejudice view to a more acceptable one. The beginning of the
story presents the narrator s wife working for a blind man one summer by reading, stuff to him, case
studies, reports, that sort of thing (Carver, 34). She eventually extends an invitation for the blind man,
Robert, to stay at their house after Robert s wife had passed away. The narrator was not too happy
about having a stranger stay in his home by stating, I wasn t enthusiastic about his visit. He was no
one I knew. And his being blind bothered me. My idea of blindness came from the movies. In the
movies, the blind moved slowly and never laughed (Carver, 34). The narrator seems very timid about
someone he had never met stay at his house who can see purely nothing. This gives off an impression
that the narrator doesn t want to have Robert stay with him because he will be a hassle to keep up with
since blind people in the movies progress, slowly and never

Strengths And Weaknesses Of The Meiji Restoration
In 1894, a Sino Japanese war broke out between Qing China and Meiji Japan over the control of
Korea. The defeat of Qing government in the war not only illustrated failure of China in attempting
modernization, but also highlighted the success of Meiji Restoration. While both countries adopted
modernizing and strengthening policies in the similar period and were with similar strengths in the
beginning, they differed much in terms of their policies and attitude towards the West, which resulted
in a big contrast between their performances in the war.
Meiji Restoration

The Importance Of Clinical Reasoning And Judgement In The...
Clinical Reasoning and Judgement in The Nursing Process
Critical thinking and clinical reasoning are essential skills to develop a sound clinical judgement.
Nurses use critical thinking models and processes to support and organize the interventions that they
perform in the clinical setting. In the scenario of Mr. Patient requesting for a Do Not Resuscitate order,
I used the nursing process to serve as the framework of the patient care and the Lasater s Clinical
Judgment Rubric by Kathie Lasater (2007) to guide my reflection. In this paper, I will describe the
skills that were used in relation to the nursing process, provide analysis of the model and application
of learning in terms of CNO competencies, and evaluate my clinical decision making in terms of
patient outcomes. While, the nursing process, served as a guide to organize my thought process in
relation to the overall picture of the patient, I also incorporated thinking structures such as ABC and
Maslow s Hierarchy Of Needs to determine the prioritization in each activity. Furthermore, I utilized
the Structured Prebriefing Worksheet by Karin Page Cutrara (2015) to make inferences from the data
before engaging in the scenario.
Clinical Reasoning Skills in Scenario
The main clinical issue in the scenario is the need of a Do Not Resuscitate order by the client. In the
pre briefing process, I predicted that the patient needs medication to reduce his chronic pain related to
his previous medical history of prostate cancer and transurethral resection of prostate. Using the
nursing process, I am able to systematically assess and deliver appropriate interventions to the patient.
I prioritize his chronic pain over his feelings, based on the Maslow s Hierarchy of Needs. As I
complete his physical assessment, I noticed that his pain level is the only variable that is out of the
normal limits. I examined his pain in detail using the PQRST pain assessment tool. I tried to look for
more gaps in my assessment when I inquire about his feelings in which I learned that patient would
like to have a DNR order.
In the planning phase, the health care team had a discussion about prioritization. On one hand, the
patient s pain level is eight out of ten that needed

  • 2. Reflection Paper On Cultural Experience For my cultural experience, I decided to connect with my roots. Even though I am Hispanic American, my parents never truly exposed me to my Mexican culture. This assignment seemed like the perfect opportunity to connect with elements of my heritage. My parents were born and raised in downtown Joliet, so I went to them to ask them where the best place would be to go find those types of experiences. They told me that the East side of Joliet would be my best chance of experiencing a new cultural experience. The following day, I decided to take a trip to this region. As I came closer to approaching the East side, I noticed that the surroundings around me started changing quite drastically. A great percentage of signs posted on billboards and businesses were written in Spanish. No English on the signs was visible anywhere either. I also noticed that great amount of businesses that were being run by Hispanic men. Considerably much greater than any businesses located in my neighborhood. I decided to stop at a small corner store located right next to Joliet Central high school. The store was called Supermercado Joliet . When I walked inside, I noticed that many of the products being sold weren t the everyday product that I was used to seeing being sold in a Walmart or Jewel Osco in my neighborhood. Many labels on the products sold were completely foreign to me. A middle aged man behind the cash register noticed me glimpsing at the products and he approached me asking me something ... • 3. Final Exit Research Paper Final Exit. The name is very to the point and feels like a way out in the darkness. As we were taught as children if there is a fire in a building you head towards the exit signs. In this metaphoric example the person s body is the building on fire and the exit is death. Although final exit is not the only way out there are other organizations that will do the same thing. Among them Dignitas, Compassion and choices, dignity in dying, exit, and the world federation of right to die societies are to name some. What all these organizations have in common is there want to allow others a death with dignity. They give those who are suffering a way out, when death is far better choice than living. Dignitas Began in 1998 in Forch Switzerland. They open their doors with the statement to live with dignity to die with dignity (Dignitas). Although soon they had to close those same doors after neighbors started to complain about all the sirens. The interior of the Dignitas house, the place where people go to die, is about as comfy as a three star hotel . Everything looks cheap and the colors clash. The only comfortable looking thing in the room is the bed (Midgley). Although ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Lethal overdose is the one most commonly used. In Oregon they use barbiturates, which is a drug that effects the central nervous system. They are commonly called sleeping pills and are used for anxiety, insomnia, and epilepsy. Overdose of it can cause the users to fall into a coma and then death (Lafferty, Abdel Kariem and Bonhomme). Otherwise the doctor might prescribe Nembutal. It is a different form of barbiturate that comes in a liquid. It is however, a lot more expensive. For 100 individual capsules of barbiturates it costs $125, but for Nembutal it costs more than $1000. Both of these drugs after being taken will put the patient into a coma and death will follow anywhere from half an hour to 48 hours depending on body build ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. My Experience In Canada Ever wonder what walking the Great Wall of China would be like? Ever dreamed of feeling the fresh cold air of Canada? What s it like eating baguettes in France next to the Eiffel Tower? Traveling is a popular dream among all of us, and making it a reality is a great learning experiences! I visited Canada in April of 2017, and had a personal emotional attachment to the culture and the whole environment, and the people I traveled with could say the same. Traveling is truly the most exciting part in a person s life because it makes their dreams of meeting different cultures a reality and gives them perspectives of seeing the world differently. Traveling is an exciting learning experience. When people want to learn a different language, traveling a different country will tremendously help them learn it. People usually learn their first language by hearing it all the time by their family. When foreigners go to a different country, assimilating to the language is much easier if they continue to hear it. When I visited Canada, and heard Canadian French on the radio, in the streets, and in their music, it felt wonderful that I could understand what they were saying and it made it easier actually processing the beautiful language. I always wondered why I couldn t learn French that well in the United States of America, it s because I was so used to hearing English all the time. This proves that traveling helps people learn languages better because hearing that second language all ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. The Woman In Black Analysis How does the author make the first encounter with the Woman in Black particularly ominous? The author, Susan Hill, makes the first encounter with the Woman in Black distinctly foreboding by her use of description, sound and Mr Kipps s apparent innocence. The Woman in Black is described as suffering from some terrible wasting disease which makes her skin only the thinnest layer of flesh [...] strained across her bones . Immediately, the reader is given some clue about her health. It seems, from the description, that she is on the verge of death. This association with death instantly makes the representation of the Woman in Black creepier. Phrases like sunken back and gaunt with disease are used to warn the reader and stop them pitying ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Most people tend to pray at funerals, particularly in the Victorian era when religion was a highly significant part of people s lives. She is also quite late, arriving halfway to the end of it and then disappearing before the cortège. There is also the obvious factor that it seemed particularly strange that a woman who was perhaps only a short time away from her own death, should drag herself to the funeral of another . To a reader, this seems decidedly minatory, since it is incredibly unlikely that someone about to breathe their last would go to Mrs Drablow s burial, especially as Mrs Drablow was known for having no close friends or family and the only other people at her funeral (besides the Parson) were her solicitors. Lastly, on the off chance she just didn t have a prayer book and actually was Mrs Drablow s long lost relative or forgotten friend, as Mr Kipps clearly believed, she disappeared with a slight rustle of clothing . Finally, there is Mr Kipps s reaction to his first encounter with the Woman in Black. Of course he didn t know she was the Woman in Black; instead he saw her as a young woman who was about to die but kind enough to see her friend off. Indeed, he vowed to speak to her [to see if he] could be of any assistance . Susan Hill makes him pity the Woman in Black, yet warns the reader with short sentences like Nor did she look old , followed by abnormally long sentences, joined together with three or four commas, as if contradicting Mr Kipps s earlier thoughts in a way that can only be interpreted fully by the ... • 6. Boeing Airlines And The Defense Market Essay Company s Market Boeing may only be one company, but they compete in two different markets: commercial airlines and the defense industry. The main competition in the commercial airline market is Airbus. Airbus and Boeing seem to have the commercial airline industry in a chokehold basically having no other competitors. Since the industry has high barriers to entry they will not see much competition anytime soon. Boeing is the American leader in commercial airplanes and Airbus is the European leader, which means they are constantly battling. Their competing aircrafts are the Airbus A380 and the Boeing 747. Both companies have many variations of their respected aircraft and according to Business Insider, Airbus A380 outranks the Boeing 747 based on cost, range, size and luxury. The defense market, Boeing aligns itself in is more complex than their commercial airline market. Boeing s main competitor in this market is Lockheed Martin and Raytheon Company. Even though all these companies may compete, each with each other they often create joint ventures because the defense industry requires a diverse product mix that one company may not be able to fulfill. One example of these ventures is when Boeing and Lockheed Martin come to together to own/operate Hellfire Systems, LLC which allows for both companies to sell AGM 114 Hellfire Missiles. This missile is used in the United States Army, Navy and Air Force so this is a very profitable venture for both Lockheed Martin and Boeing. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This paper is mainly discussing about the user interface design problems faced by the healthcare professionals in the healthcare industry with the applications in their handheld devices that assist them in dealing with daily routine work. The authors attempt to identify and address the key problems from the previous researches. To tackle these issues, a mobile user interface (UI) framework is reviewed as the basis for discussion and suggestion for improving future interface design for healthcare. Typically, the medical information is delivered inside one display window on the handheld device. Only part of the information is seen as it squeezed with other elements, for example, navigation buttons, menu, and etc. to fit into the window. Most of the browsers in the computer are able to switch to full screen display and this function enable users to hide the unwanted toolbars temporary while increasing screen space for information display. However, this was not available on the browser of handheld device. 3.2 Scrolling is Not Good Design for Healthcare Interface Design On top of that, research shows that most of the users do not like the scrolling button. Especially for users of healthcare information, they all agreed with the suggestion that scrolling should be avoided or at least minimized. In some interface design researches (e.g. Albers amp; Kim, 2001); researchers propose dragging the content presented on a screen as another solution for this problem. But this way has been proved that users are still not comfortable in other studies. As mentioned in previous research papers, healthcare information in the PDA devices should be able to use visualization and interactivity and minimize amount of text as much as possible on a screen. Scrolling is obviously not function for this purpose. Usually, information of healthcare for learning is better ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Why Is Swing Better Than Traditional Jazz A few years later that jazz was born in 1930 another style was created and it is call swing. Also called the big band era because they used more instruments than early jazz. Why swing was the most popular style of jazz? The reason was because it gave people that swing feeling they wanted the one that made people dance. Is swing better than traditional jazz? It may be popular but that does not mean that one is better than the other it was just different in a way that attract to many people and it is hard to describe what swing feeling really means. The instrumentation used in swing music consisted in five saxophones, four trumpets and four trombones as the front line and the rhythm section with the guitar, bass, piano and drums. This instrumentation gave a strong and hot style that people were crazy about. Always keeping the essence of jazz improvising and keeping the swing feeling although in swing there were not collective improvisations. Using more instruments allowed musicians to have an advanced ability in terms of tone, control and speed while they are playing a melody. Because big bands in the swing era could not do collective improvisations bands started to use more arrangements and the improvisation was only with solos. Emile Durkheim s The Elementary Forms Of The Religious Life Émile Durkheim s The Elementary Forms of the Religious Life examines religion through a social viewpoint, while Claude Lévi Strauss s The Savage Mind compares modern and primitive thought. Although their topics of interest differ, both works similarly rely on science to explain their anthropologic theories. Science serves as a useful reference point, since it embodies modern mode of thinking with high objectivity. Therefore, these writers can expand on their analysis of other ways to perceive the world by comparing and contrasting with science. The relations created between science and organized human thought unravel how these anthropologists view science. Durkheim s and Levi Strauss s allusions to science support their respective arguments about religion and mythical thought, while revealing anthropology s general perspective of science. Durkheim argues that religion shares fundamental qualities with science, exposing his beliefs on the purpose of science. First, Durkheim notes, most of the time debates on the topic of religion turn around and about on the question of whether religion can or cannot be reconciled with science (Durkheim 419). Religion s compatibility with the modern world of science comes into question, due to the cosmological aspects being disproved with empirical evidence. Oppression can happen to anyone, but it usually happens to minority racial or social groups. Society and its institutions often reinforce and stand by this oppression. Racism is very prevalent in America even to this day, though many claim we have overcome our oppressive history. Addressing this oppression can be incredibly difficult, not only for those being oppressed, but also for those who want to stand up for those groups. While it may be difficult to address oppressive structures, it is not impossible. Oppression can control one s life and take a toll on their well being. Addressing oppressive structures can only happen when people or a group of people are able to make it their ultimate concern, and then come together as one to fight back. Tillich s notion of Ultimate Concern is very important in addressing oppressive structures. Faith is the state of being ultimately concerned: the dynamics of faith are the dynamics of man s ultimate concern (Tillich, pg. 1). An ultimate concern is the concern above all concerns; it essentially is the most important thing in one s life, and once they overcome it they will experience total fulfillment. People have a variety of ultimate concerns, but since oppression is such a damaging and life consuming injustice, those who are affected by it most likely have the ultimate concern of overcoming it. Some of these traditions include rites of passage. These rites of passage signify a change in the life of a person in the Igbo tribe. The rites of passage in the Igbo culture occur at birth, when a person reaches the age in which they want to build a family, and at death. The first rite of passage that a person of Igbo culture will go through takes place only a few days after birth. This rite of passage is known as the naming ceremony. In this rite, a newborn baby is part of a very important ceremony where his or her parents chose a name for the child. This is a very special occasion because the name given to the child will be stuck with them forever. Igbo names can hold deep meaning. The name given to a child can determine the reputation that they have for the rest of their life. In the book Things Fall Apart , by Chinua Achebe, a woman named Ekwefi has multiple children who die. As a student and a unbiased Christian, I enjoy studying all types of religions, and elements that encompass them. Luther began his religious career as an Augustinian Monk in the Roman Catholic Church. So, Luther was initially loyal to the papacy, and even after many theological conflicts, he attempted to bring about his understanding with the Church. But this was a contradiction not to suffer because in his later years, Luther waged a continual battle with the papacy. Luther was to become a professor of biblical exegesis at Wittenberg where, in 1957, he posted his critique of the Roman Catholic Church s teachings and practices. This is otherwise known as The Ninety Five Theses, which is usually considered to be the original document of the Reformation. The Reformation was very controversial then, and, from a historical viewpoint, it still is today. Luther played a large part in the movement, and I was interested I doing a research to uncover what was the issue with religion. Basically, this document was an indictment of the venality of the Roman Catholic Church, particularly the widespread practice of selling indulgences in association with the sacrament of penance. • 21. Coral Growth As mentioned several times above, coral growth is the key to a formation of any type of reef. Free swimming coral larvae find homes on submerged rocks or stable surfaces nearby the edges of land. Colonies of coral form as calcium carbonate skeletons accumulate and begin to be bounded by surrounding corals. The polyps continues to secrete calcareous skeletons that form protective structures they will reside in. The protective structure is like a sort of cup the polyp sits under, and new hard skeletons grow/forms as the coral polyp lifts and releases new calcium carbonate framework. Coral reproduces asexually, the polyp buds and new, genetically identical coral polyps develop. The cycle continues and the coral spreads over a relatively short period of time. The first formation of coral begins a platform for other new coral to settle and form. These skeletons make up a majority of the reefs framework, however these are other small organisms that contribute to the formation. Fire corals, which are more closely related to hydrozoans than actual corals, also deposit large amounts of calcium carbonate that add to the construction. Stacey received 350 letters from women who went to the cinema 2 3 times a week during this period of wartime as cinema going was at an all time high. Within the book, Stacey discusses Laura Mulvey s Male Gaze and how Mulvey s analysis of the pleasures of Hollywood cinema led her to conclude that the spectator position offered is a masculine one. She talks about how there are 3 looks within the dominant mode of Hollywood cinema; the camera(man), the editor and the director. She emphasizes on how all of these looks work together to create the effect of seeing the female characters as objects of desire through the eyes of the male characters. However, Stacey argues that women do not have to adopt the dominant masculine position offered by the text in order to gain pleasure from looking at the female characters. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Jason Hodde, Jeff Robbins, Norm Yarger, and Karl King each personally emailed me with insightful information on running related injuries. The listserve is such a great interactive source of information. Who better to learn from but the runners themselves? They are the ones who have to cope with the injuries. Any amount of personal experience through trial and error is better advice than book knowledge. This is the reason why so many runners advise that running related injuries should be taken to a doctor who has running experience because he will be more inclined to look to rectify the cause of the injury instead of resorting to surgery. The best way to prevent injuries from occurring is to take the appropriate precautionary actions. The first major rule is: don t strain. The majority of running injuries occur from overtraining. It is important for a runner to incorporate hard days and easy days into his/her exercise routine. You need to give your body time to rest so that it can repair itself. Fatigue accumulates and if you don t ease up occasionally, you won t improve. Being overtired will eventually lead to injury because your body needs a chance to recover and strengthen itself. Also, avoid doing too much too soon. Dr. Stephen Pribut suggests that Mileage should usually only be increased approximately ten percent per week. Every third week, you should drop back a small amount. For most runners one or two days a week, at least, should be devoted to rest or ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 31. Empiricism In Grendel In Grendel by John Gardner, twelve philosophies are connected to each one of the twelve chapters in the novel. These philosophies are all coats that the main character, Grendel, tries on to see if he truly aligns and believes in the philosophy. Similarly, I, throughout my fifteen years of living, have tried on coats of philosophies and align specifically with parts of two philosophies present in Grendel: Empiricism and the philosophy of Nietzsche. Empiricism is the philosophy that professes all knowledge comes from sense experience, and the primary aspect of Nietzsche s philosophy is that tragedy is the affirmation of life. Ultimately, because of the experiences I have had in my life, I have developed into an Empiricist and believer ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I thought Ms. Platt had attached another student s rubric to my essay. I wanted the nightmare to end. Not only did I not receive an A or a B, but a C . I earned a seventy percent. My eyes watered, and I began to feel nauseous. I felt as if I failed myself and my family. This grade was not supposed to be possible. In the words of Grendel, it was an accident. But unfortunately, it was not. At that moment, I had to accept, even if I did not want to, that I, for once, did not reach my high goals or had to surrender my unrealistic view of myself. I had erred, like all humans do, and learned that I was not perfect and that I could fail to reach my standards. At that moment, I realized that I wasn t superhuman but human, and this was something challenging for me to cope with at the time. However, in discovering my ability to fail, my perception of myself had been revolutionized. After that moment, I no longer saw myself as an intelligent kid who was unable to fail, but one who was and could be challenged by failure and challenged to learn from my mistakes. After revising the essay, I received an A+, yet this was not what made me happy. • 34. Antigone or Creon as the Tragic Hero in Antigone Essay A tragic hero is a character in a play that is known for being dignified but has a flaw that assists in his or her downfall. Antigone is a Greek tragic piece written by Sophocles. In the theatrical production the use of power and morality versus law is evident. The promotion to the conflict was that Creon created a law in which enabled Polynieces, Antigone s brother, to be buried in the proper way. As it is the way of the gods Antigone found it fit to bury her brother causing her to disobey the law of Thebes. Both Antigone and Creon, the main characters, could represent a tragic hero. This quotes shows that Creon took his position as king seriously to the point where in he was willing to sacrifice the feelings of his own son. He was willing to be the cause of son s destruction just to prove that he is the king and always right. I will go... I buried her, I will set her free (scene 5, 102,104). Not only does this quote show leadership but also stubbornness he was risking his relationship with his son to prove that he was the leader of Thebes. Creon says another quote which shows his loyalty to his kingdom, I call to God to witness that if I saw my country headed for ruin, I should not be afraid to speak out plainly, (Sophocles, scene 1,24 26). It shows his strong sense of leadership which catches up with him in the end causing destruction. Tragic heroes have identifiable flaws which cause their destruction. In this situation Creon s major flaw was that he was self centered, and never listened he thought he was always right. These discussions are private and should only be discussed in our circle. Once, two females had a problem with one male student. I was successful as there were no fights and the females found a way to solve the problem they had with each other in peace. During the circle I told that this person that they are having issues over does not care about them because if he did he would have tried and de escalate the situation, but he did not. • 37. The Dynamic Character In Carver s Cathedral By Raymond Carver In the short story Cathedral by Raymond Carver, the narrator is a dynamic character because of the way his thoughts adjust throughout the entirety of the story. The beginning of the story shows the narrator only being able to see physical things with his eyes. By the end, the narrator sees a different perspective through his imagination. Robert, the blind man that visits the narrator and his wife, brings out the imagination from within the narrator. The narrator is a dynamic character because he changes his judgment of Robert from a more prejudice view to a more acceptable one. The beginning of the story presents the narrator s wife working for a blind man one summer by reading, stuff to him, case studies, reports, that sort of thing (Carver, 34). She eventually extends an invitation for the blind man, Robert, to stay at their house after Robert s wife had passed away. The narrator was not too happy about having a stranger stay in his home by stating, I wasn t enthusiastic about his visit. He was no one I knew. And his being blind bothered me. My idea of blindness came from the movies. In the movies, the blind moved slowly and never laughed (Carver, 34). The narrator seems very timid about someone he had never met stay at his house who can see purely nothing. This gives off an impression that the narrator doesn t want to have Robert stay with him because he will be a hassle to keep up with since blind people in the movies progress, slowly and never ... The defeat of Qing government in the war not only illustrated failure of China in attempting modernization, but also highlighted the success of Meiji Restoration. While both countries adopted modernizing and strengthening policies in the similar period and were with similar strengths in the beginning, they differed much in terms of their policies and attitude towards the West, which resulted in a big contrast between their performances in the war. Meiji Restoration The Meiji period was a significant era, which laid down the foundation and formed the framework of modern Japan. • 39. The Importance Of Clinical Reasoning And Judgement In The... Clinical Reasoning and Judgement in The Nursing Process Critical thinking and clinical reasoning are essential skills to develop a sound clinical judgement. Nurses use critical thinking models and processes to support and organize the interventions that they perform in the clinical setting. In the scenario of Mr. Patient requesting for a Do Not Resuscitate order, I used the nursing process to serve as the framework of the patient care and the Lasater s Clinical Judgment Rubric by Kathie Lasater (2007) to guide my reflection. In this paper, I will describe the skills that were used in relation to the nursing process, provide analysis of the model and application of learning in terms of CNO competencies, and evaluate my clinical decision making in terms of patient outcomes. While, the nursing process, served as a guide to organize my thought process in relation to the overall picture of the patient, I also incorporated thinking structures such as ABC and Maslow s Hierarchy Of Needs to determine the prioritization in each activity. Furthermore, I utilized the Structured Prebriefing Worksheet by Karin Page Cutrara (2015) to make inferences from the data before engaging in the scenario. Clinical Reasoning Skills in Scenario The main clinical issue in the scenario is the need of a Do Not Resuscitate order by the client. In the pre briefing process, I predicted that the patient needs medication to reduce his chronic pain related to his previous medical history of prostate cancer and transurethral resection of prostate. Using the nursing process, I am able to systematically assess and deliver appropriate interventions to the patient. I prioritize his chronic pain over his feelings, based on the Maslow s Hierarchy of Needs. As I complete his physical assessment, I noticed that his pain level is the only variable that is out of the normal limits. I examined his pain in detail using the PQRST pain assessment tool. I tried to look for more gaps in my assessment when I inquire about his feelings in which I learned that patient would like to have a DNR order. In the planning phase, the health care team had a discussion about prioritization. On one hand, the patient s pain level is eight out of ten that needed ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
