Mike Rowe s The Broken Basic Bargain
Leah LaBelle once stated, ВЁWork hard for what you want because it won t come to you without a
fight. You have to be strong and courageous and know that you can do anything you put your mind
to. Society is often caught in the realm between making a living and being content with the work
someone is completing. Some argue that happiness should come before money, but others feel as
though money allows for more opportunities to create joy. In Mike Rowe: Learning from dirty jobs,
Rowe addresses that there are several distasteful jobs that are available to the American people,
however, The broken basic bargain discusses the psychological issues that can accompany
someone should he/she follow one of these unpleasant careers. Risky jobs have existed
throughout history. As time goes on... new technologies help reduce risks, but they also create
new dangerous jobs. (Garbe, 2014, p. 28). Since the Declaration of Independence was established
and perhaps even before that the American people have gone about life knowing that the only way
to pave the way for better times was work. However, Life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness, also

Reich discusses that citizens must not only look at what makes his/her dreams come true or what
brings him/her happiness, but also what brings them the bottom dollar. He argues that the basic
bargain of the American people with the economy is one in which what pays in gets paid back
out. In other words, the company that employs someone should pay that worker enough to be able
to afford the company s products, thus keeping a constant flow of income for both parties
involved. However, as years have gone on, there has been less coming to the people and more
going businesses and the government in general. Reich argues that this has caused a downfall not
only in the economy, but in a decline in happiness. By using logos heavily with statistics, Reich
reaches his audience on numerous

A Reflection At The Center For Inclusion And Campus...
A Reflection at the Center for Inclusion and Campus Involvement: Social Justice Pre Practicum
Unlike my mental health pre practicum which was an off campus endeavor at Aspire Health
Partners, my social justice, and advocacy prepracticum took place on the campus of Rollins at
the Center for Inclusion and Campus Involvement (CICI). Working this semester for CICI was
an eye opening experience. For over four months, I was able to abide by CICI s mission
statement which consists of the following values; inclusion, courageous leadership, authenticity,
and social change. My endeavors were directed towards the LGBTQ community at Rollins, but I
was also able to work with incoming students with Title IX and Buzz to help the new students
understand how to be safe in campus. My professional and personal values remained congruent
with the social justice and social advocacy mission values of CICI, and afforded me the chance to
see the ethics of my mental health counseling program in action. Accordingly, my values stand as
self determination to encourage social justice and social change on behalf of my clients. It
behooves me to highlight how meaningful this value subsists for me since this was one of the
central purposes that inspired me to pursue a career in mental health counseling. As a gay man, I
realized that the LGBTQ community needs many advocates for their rights and for society s
acceptance, especially for the LGBTQ youth of today. Therefore, I recognized that counseling was

Characteristics Of Aeneas A Hero
Despite his accomplishments and the glory associated with his life, Aeneas only achieves the status
of hero through divine intervention, and this god given position causes him just as much grief as it
does splendor.
What is a hero? We would like to think that a hero is someone who has achieved some fantastic
goal or status, or maybe someone who has accomplished a great task. Heroes find themselves in
situations of great pressure and act with nobility and grace. Though the main character of Virgil s
Aeneid, Aeneas, is such a person, it is not by his own doing. He encounters situations in which
death is near, in which love, hate, peace, and war come together to cause both good and evil. In
these positions he conducts himself with honor, by going along with what the gods want. Only
then goes on to pave the way for the Roman Empire. His deeds, actions, and leadership would never
have come to be if it were not for the gods. The gods took special interest in Aeneas, causing him
misfortune in some cases, giving him assistance in others. On the whole, the gods constantly
provide perfect opportunities for Aeneas to display his heroism. Without them, Aeneas would not be
the hero he is. This gift does not come without a price, though; he must endure the things heroes
endure to become what they are. Despite his accomplishments and the glory associated with his life,
Aeneas only achieves the status of hero through divine intervention, and this god given position
causes him

Keynesian Theory And The Difference Between Real And...
Economics is not only useful to those who use it to determine future outcomes for the world, but it
is also an important part of society s everyday life. We unknowingly understand concepts derived
from economics when we are trying to make choices of what to buy, what to invest in, when to be
conservative about spending, and much more. Understanding the Keynesian theory and the
difference between real and nominal variables may not directly affect each other, but both play a
part in how we relate economics to our world.
Keynesian theory is a concept developed by John Maynard Keynes, in which it is believed that
governments should intervene with the economy and how it is dealt. Keynesian economists believe
that saving beyond planned investments is a very serious problem that encourages recession. If
saving goes beyond investments, there will not be enough demand to purchase the goods and
services that the economy is producing. Therefore, leading into a recession, or worse a depression.
Keynesian economists believe that a government stimulus is more effective at boosting aggregate
demand than a tax cut because they believe that government intervention is a way to stabilize an
economy.
When governments have programs to benefit people who are doing specific jobs, it will bring that
money back into the economy, unlike tax cuts. If the spending is supported by tax increases then
this will reduce people s incomes after tax, which will ultimately lead them to reduce their

Comparing the first and second experiments, we see that if [I ] is tripled, the rate triples. Therefore

Comparing the first and third experiments, we see that if [S2O8 2] is tripled, the rate also triples.
Therefore the reaction is also first order in [I ].
The rate law is therefore rate = k[I ][S2O8 2], overall order is second order. (b) Calculate the rate

Divergent Book Vs Movie
The movie Divergent is based on the novel by Veronica Roth. The book and film takes place in
future Chicago where there are five factions; Dauntless, Abnegation, Erudite, Amity, and Candor.
People in future Chicago take a test to determine what faction is most like them. If multiple factions
are the result of the test, then it is determined that the person is Divergent. This is a rare story of
Beatrice Prior s experience as being Divergent and surviving in the Dauntless community. The
movie starts with Beatrice Prior choosing a different factionthat what she has grown up in;
Dauntless. After she jumps on trains and off the top of a building, training begins. The physical
training includes self defense and simple fighting strategies. After... Show more content on

Black signifies the bravery and strength of the dauntless faction. Even though throughout the movie
Beatrice s shirt changed, her tattoo still was showing. The significance from the tattoo is that it
represents her family that she left behind. Therefore, by showing the tattoo, she is showing that
her family is always with her. Tobias Eaton wore short sleeved black shirts for the majority of the
movie. By wearing the short sleeves, his muscles are exposed. The significance of the muscles are
important because it represents that he is strong and fights for what is right. Jeanine matthews wore
a very sophisticated and stiff suit jacket. The jacket symbolizes Matthew s personality; very stiff
and sophisticated. Lastly, Natalie Prior showed signs of dauntless costume while remaining
abnegation. Her clothing was tight fit, showing that she had control and bravery like a dauntless
person. In the same respect, her clothing is grey, which symbolizes the importance of not standing
out and being selfless in the abnegation community. The movie Divergent was a drama and science
fiction film. This film is for teenagers and young adults that like drama and/or science fiction. The
acting and costume was great, however certain parts of the film needed work. For example, the
relationships with the friends were not as strong as they were in the book. Little, but significant
details were missing. This impacted the rating and made me conclude

The Harmony Between Hunting And Conservation
The Harmony Between Hunting and Conservation In 2014, professional hunter Corey Knowlton,
placed a bid of $350,000 for the chance to go on a hunting trip in Namibia. On this trip Knowlton
had the chance to hunt and kill the black rhino, an extremely endangered species. This hunt and the
ideas that have been used to justify it have started a heated debate on the subject. Animal
conservationists, who support the ethical side of the argument, don t understand the desire to kill a
beautiful animal for sport. They believe that to sell the rights to the unnatural slaughter of an
innocent animal for a trophy sends the wrong message. It seems contradictory and unethical
especially in the name of conservation. Conservation by definition is the act... Show more content

Hunting and poaching is mainly responsible for the initial decrease in the population of black
rhinos specifically. Currently, there are approximately 5,000 black rhinos left in the wild today,
and 2,000 of them live in Namibia (Lavandera, 2015). With such a small population size black
rhinos and rhinos in general are on the brink of extinction. Aldo Leopold s land ethic theory simply
pushes the boundaries of the community to include soils, waters, plants, and animals, or
collectively: the land (Leopold, 1948). He believes in giving animals value as that is the only way
people can be ethical towards it (Leopold, 1948). Conservationists use this theory to support their
argument that it is unethical to bring about death and suffering to an animal for the good of the
species in the long run. Richard Leaky, head of the Kenya Wildlife Service, states that conservation
hunting sends a negative message that it s okay to hunt these animals and kill endangered species
and decreases their value (Melvin, 2015). However, they re there are so many other ways we can
increase conservation efforts, the best way being, exposure to the wonders of wildlife and nature
starting at a young age (Melvin, 2015). This would increase the animals value and make more
people understand and practice the ideas behind the land ethic theory. Not to mention classic
conservationists question the contradictory notion that killing an animal this way is an effort to
save the animal from

Roland Barthes developed a range of semiotic tools to...
3. Roland Barthes developed a range of semiotic tools to analyse the cultural meanings that are
conveyed in advertising images, in a particular context. Using these semiotic tools, select and
analyse four magazine adverts.
This essay will discuss Roland Barthes ideas and his semiotic tools, and will also look at how
Barthes uses these tools to analyse images and how they make us think.
Roland Barthes was a French philosopher who wrote many books about the literary theory and
semiotics. His writing has influenced and helped shape many postmodern theories. His most
famous book Death of the author explains his theory on visual analysis. Barthes says that when we
see an image, the author or creator of the image does not matter. Each individual person will find a
meaning from that image. We all analyse images on our own.
The meaning of an image lies with the audience. The author is not the authority on the meaning
of the image. Although we are all quite similar in what we get from an image, different people
will get different meanings. This is due to the experiences we have had throughout life. Barthes
says no object has a natural meaning. (Barthes, 1967 p.25) Meanings are defined by culture, so
for example, if in the UK someone does the thumbs up , we take this to mean that everything is
okay, but if someone does it whilst standing at the side of the road, it means they want a lift, and in
scuba diving it means you want to go up to the surface.
In his essay, Rhetoric of

Martha Graham And Humphrey
Martha Graham and Doris Humphrey are known as the founders, or the pioneers of modern dance.
They were of the first to begin the modern dance era, after Isadora Duncan. Graham and Humphrey
reshaped the way people looked at dance giving it new meaning. During the 1900 s they defined
modern dance and gave it clear recognizable movements that distinguish it from many other dances
created in the past.
Martha Graham s technique of modern dance consists of very powerful, and emotional
movements. They way she moved her body was very off putting or ugly to those who hadn t seen
this type of dance. She looks rigid and sharp when she moves rather than flowing and elegant like
people were use to seeing in ballet. It was a revolution in motion equal ... Show more content on

She was very interested in the more natural flowing movements and studied dance in simpler
versions. She wanted to remove the dramatic idea in order to focus on the basic principles. One of
her dances, Water Study is actually performed with no music. The dancers use their breath and
natural wave like movements to create the rhythm of the dance. Humphrey generated studies that
focused merely on oppositional and succession movement, rhythm, and the dynamics of falling
(Stodelle 1978). She created the fall and recovery technique, which is similar to Graham s
contraction and release technique. The main elements of her fall and recovery technique are
balance and imbalance (Stodelle 1978). In Humphrey s technique she focuses on the balance, the
breath, and the spacial orientation. When the dancer becomes very off balance they spring into a
new risky direction.
Doris Humphrey and Martha Graham were not close friends, and their views on dance vary.
Martha s view being more impulsive, rigid, and dramatic while Doris s is more flowing and
natural. However there techniques of fall and recovery, and contraction and release are very similar.
They both taught at Denishawn, and performed in some of the concerts at Denishawn (Foulkes,
42). Graham was a dancer at heart, Humphrey, a choreographer. Although vastly different these two
women played a major role in the development of modern

Male Gaze In The Male Gaze
The Male Gaze is a phrase coined by Laura Mulvey, in which she examines how through media,
the portrayal of women has evolved and is seen through the eyes of the male perspective. After the
1960 s sexual revolution, films started to incorporate women as a more objectified aspect,
demonstrated by the visual representation of how they provocatively use their bodies.
In this essay we will be specifically examining the male gaze in the 1999 s cult classic, Fight Club
from both the protagonist and antagonist view and how we as the audience view ourselves,
dissected from the way the characters view themselves.
Fight Club is based on a book by Chuck Palahniuk, centred around a heavily depressed man

I arrived to Amsterdam but my destination was a new city for me The Hague, what a surprise! My
niece and her husband were renting a condo with a stunning view of Scheveningen beach. It is a
beautiful place with a large pier and all kind of restaurants, hotels and children attractions to
entertain locals and tourist. The weather was a little chill but the sun shone over the beach
making the scene just unforgettable. Full of people relaxing and having fun. The sun is really
appreciated there, people does not want to miss a bit of it since the winter days are very short. We
walked the original pier and sat at a restaurant to see the kids play and the adults enjoying a beer or
a glass of wine.

Differences Between Ancient Egypt And Egypt
Nearly 5000 years ago, two kingdoms surrounded the Nile river, the North around the mouth of the
river and the South stretched along the river for hundreds of miles. The Egypt we re familiar with
begins with King Menes, the first Pharaoh. Under his command, the South conquered the Northern
lands unifying the two nations into what we now consider Ancient Egypt. Even though the two
kingdoms were greatly different, they did have one enormous element in common, the NileRiver.
Each spring the southern snow would melt and cause flooding; the waters overflowed and
replenished the soil, promising a large harvest that autumn. The entire kingdom vitally depended on
this natural rhythm.
When western historians created the study of Egyptology they quickly learned the field would
need to be simplified. With the help of intellectual locals and decades of work, a previously
monumental mass of records was divided into an accepted group of 33 dynasties over 3 periods.
On the other hand, the Egyptians never saw their Kingdom divided in that way; to them, Egypt
was one, strong, unified land ruled by a godlike Pharaoh providing safety for his people eternally.
Harmony (Ma at) is a concept Egypt loved to obsess over; they believed in an endless flow that
life and even death allowed them to experience. Practically all surviving remnants from the Old
Kingdom period are the grand tombs and burial sites of the royals, often giving us the wrong
impression that death haunted the Egyptians. Their

Labor Movement In The 1800s
Labor Movement During the late 1800 s America became involved in a large labor movement
that would shape history. As America was becoming more industrialized, the need for workers
increased overnight. The workplace was changing as machines became common and the demand
for unskilled workers brought new groups into the workforce including immigrants, women, and
children (Aboukhadijeh). The desperation from both employees and employers brought
awareness to working conditions. Employees desired better working conditions, increased
wages, and decreased working hours. Communicating with employers proved to be futile and
fueled union movements. Union members would go on strike to force companies to meet their
demands. Sometimes it would work and when it didn t, companies would lock out employees
and bring in new workers to do the job. These actions led to violent protests, riots, and arrests.
The Pinkertons were hired as security by companies during these trying times. Toward the end of
the 19th century, the agency became more involved in labor disputes, always on the side of
management (Crawford). The Pinkertons were labeled as villains by workers as blood was shed
during these conflicts. Coal mining was one of the industries heavily affected by the strikes in
which the Pinkertons would become involved with. Working conditions were already substandard
due to the process of mining coal. Mine workers were exposed to safety hazards, long working
hours and inhaled toxic

Lab Report: Ohm s Law Series Circuits Introduction
Theory:
Ohm s law defines the relationship between three important electrical properties namely: voltage,
current and resistance. Mathematically, ohm s law is expressed as: V=IR. By understanding the
importance of conduction, one is able to determine the total resistance and visualize how resistors
are connected in parallel circuits. In parallel connection, each resistor provides a separate path for
current [I] so that the total resistance of a parallel circuit is reduced as more resistors are connected
in parallel. In contrast, the resistance in series circuits increases when more resistors are introduced
into the circuit. This ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In effect, the resistor was aligned horizontally with the first end. A black wire extension (from the
negative polarity of the power supply) was connected vertically from one end of the last resistor
plugged into the first set of holes just below the blue line albeit aligned differently from the red
wire (Figure 1). Figure 1: Circuit diagram
A digital multimeter was used to measure voltage by connecting it in parallel and series with the
components.
Analysis
Resistors connected in series are observed to share one current path. A breadboard effectively builds
a testing electrical and electronic system model. It also holds electrical components together
conveniently for practical applications.
Part 2: Measuring Resistors in Series A multimeter was connected across individual resistors and
resistance measurements were recorded. The multimeter was then connected across all the resistors
whereby measurements recorded. The values are tabulated in Table 1:

Examples Of Irony In A Prayer For Owen Meany
In the novel, A Prayer For Owen Meany, Written by John Irving is covered with literary devices.
Every scene written has a purpose. His most common literary elements include foreshadowing,
symbolism and Irony. From the armadillo to the wedding all these literary devices help the novel
piece together, creating the book that it is. The following instrument, foreshadowing, symbolism
and Irony help us better understand on how Owen Meany is truly a God s Instrument.
Foreshadowing plays a huge role in this novel. Without it would be mere coincidence on the
events that happen to Owen Meany. A prime example on this is when Owen is at the Tabitha

was returned to show us that Owen is a God s instrument. The armadillo was returned to Johnny
armless. Owen felt really depraved for giving it back armless but his true intention of making
the armadillo armless was shown when they are nineteen. The armadillo was returned to Johnny
armless because Owen believes that GOD HAS TAKENED MY HANDS. I AM GOD S
INSTRUMENT. This shows that Owen believe that it was destined that Tabitha was going to die
by Owen s hands. Taking the armadillo claws and giving it back to Johnny armless shows that
Owen believes that God took Owen s arm and God is controlling him like an instrument. In the end
all symbols represent that Owen will be armless since the statue, Tabitha s mannequin, and the

Alfred F. Young s The Shoemaker And The Revolution
Alfred F. Young wrote The Shoemaker and the Revolution to explain how a regular citizen could
become such an active participant in the American Revolution. He explores one citizen in
particular, the shoemaker George Robert Twelves Hewes, and how he went from a young, nervous
boy to a patriot that stood up for what he believed. Young describes that this transformation can be
explained by participation in events that inspired the revolution the BostonMassacre, the Boston tea
Party, and the tarring and feathering of John Malcolm. The first event that began to shape the man
that Hewes would become was the Boston Massacre in March of 1770. He also had several

These include a bias when commenting on the Boston Massacre, the ill explanations of the
Quartering Acts or the Tea Act which are major direct causes to the events discussed, and the fact
that the articles only focusses on events that occurred in Boston. When explaining the second
point of this article Young states that The soldiers were beaten and sought revenge. (par. 7). This
implies that the British soldiers were looking for a fight on the night of the massacre. This a type
of propaganda that was commonly used in this era to demonize the soldiers acts even though it
was most likely just an accidental shooting. Another major weakness the Young exudes hoe he
fails to mention important causes of the Boston Massacre and the Boston Tea Party. The
Quartering Act was issued by Parliament to decrease the cost of holding troops in America and
forced the colonists to house troops and pay for all of their accommodations. This information
would be helpful in describing the events that led up to the Boston Massacre. Another fact that
would aid the reader s understanding of the cause of an event would be to explain the Tea Act, as
this was the most direct cause to the Boston Tea Party. This act was in place to undercut Dutch
smugglers and force the American colonists to buy tea from Britain directly. This angered the
colonists and led to the refusal to unload tea in the Boston

Pride In Beowulf Research Paper
Pride is a common theme throughout English Literature, but it impacted each time period in
different ways, as shown by comparing Beowulf from the Anglo Saxon time period and Hamlet
from the English Renaissance. In the Anglo Saxon time period, pride is shown through code of
the warriors. Warriors were expected to fight under any circumstance and were praised regardless if
it ended in death. Within the epic poem of Beowulf, the main character Beowulf potrayed the
perfect Anglo Saxon hero in that he never ran away from a challenge, even to the extent of a
dragon, which resulted in the death of Beowulf. For people within the English Renaissance, pride
was much subtler. An Example of this was the distinguishing of Nobles and the Middle class,...

The story started out with the main character, Hamlet, who discovered that the death of his
father was not natural and that he had been murdered. Hamlet, who had spent some time at
college and was considered to be an educated man, devised a plan in order to discover who had
murdered his father. Hamlet s plan was a play that would be a close reenactment of his father s
death, and the murder, upon seeing this play would point themselves out due to their own guilt.
While Hamlet planned this play, he decided to act mad because he believed that his actions
would just be looked over as insane and not taken literally. After Hamlet completed his play and
performed it for the audience, Hamlet discovered that his uncle, who was now king in place of
Hamlet s father, was indeed the murderer. After Hamlet uncovered the truth, he made it his
mission to seek out to avenge his father s death. Hamlet, determined to kill his uncle, seemed to
become mad, but he was no longer acting. In the end of the play, Hamlet s actions led to the
death of himself, as well as many others within the play, all of which was a result of pride.
Hamlet, who believed he was far more intelligent than all the other characters in the play, ended up
dead because of it. When Hamlet decided to act mad and had created a plan that was nothing short
of genius, seemed to let his own

The molecules are endogenous and exogenous ligands. This binding process is significant in
pathophysiology of sepsis. Endogenous is an infection that occurs internally. While exogenous is an
infection that developed from an outside factor.
The poster showed that mice with this receptor increased inflammation, decreased survival, and
increased bacterial organisms. Another thing that increased was the expression of SRA on
monocytes and macrophages. This means that SRA is binding more often to the negatively charged
molecules in the exogenous and endogenous molecules.
Flow cytometry was used to determine the SRA expression on the control group and the group
that they treated with LPS media. When treated with LPS, the expression increased. LPS is a TLR
4 ligand. They also mixed LPS and PAM3CSK4, which is TLR 2 ligand. When they mixed the two,
the expression was no different than the control cells.
The way they determined the mechanism that increased SRA expression was they treated the cell
line with media that stimulated toll like receptors which are the innate immune receptors in this
case. This is when they used the LPS media and the LPS/PAM3CSK4 media. Then the cells were

Atlit Yam Essay
Atlit Yam in Israel
Atlit Yam is a typical Neolithic site submerged in the Mediterranean Sea, near the coast of Haifa,
Israel (Holloway, 2014). This ancient village, aging 9,000 years old, started to be excavated in
1990s (Marchant, 2009). There have been numerous remains discovered by archaeologists,
including a large amount of houses and walls, a water well surrounded by stone baluster, a large
number of human remains and plenty of artefacts made by stone, wood and bone (Holloway,
2014). One of the most exciting discoveries is some skeletons of women and children, which have
been confirmed to be the earliest known cases of tuberculosis (Marchant, 2009). This settlement
provides an excellent chance to study life in the Neolithic Age.
Reasons of the subsidence of Atlit Yam are complicated. Basically, the erosion of saltwater, the
tectonic effects and eustatic effects may all make contribution to the submergence of the village.
With the erosion of saltwater, the well in Atlit Yam was contaminated badly so that the village
was abandoned by its people, not long before it was covered by sand and water (Marchant, 2009).
Other opinions suggests a burst of volcano as a form of tectonic ... Show more content on

The recent underwater discoveries led by archaeologists from the University of Cambridge and the

contains a larger number of material valuable to be studied (Marchant, 2009). Unlike some
submerged settlements which are lack of planning and contracture, Pavlopetri has already

Relationship Between Odysseus And Ovid
Semira Mohammed Engl 2111 11/18/14 In all the epic stories we read, it suggests that Gods and
goddesses feel a strong attraction for humans. This attraction helps explain the interest the gods
take in human lives and the tendency of gods goddesses to force themselves upon humans. They
lose control when it comes to love, because love is something they can t control just as much as
we all humans can t and in the epic of homer s, Virgil and Ovid, we see that happening. In the epic
of homer s, Thetis and Achilles relationship as a mother and son was pretty much like a mortal

Summary Of The Poem What A Jerk
What a jerk? That s him pushing the stone up the hill, the jerk (34 37): Seems like Mrs.
Sisyphus, throughout the poem, is attempting to rule out her workaholic husband of any chance
to explain himself or tell his side of the story on why he works a lot. The reader may even argue
that there may be some valid complaints that she states but she s not all that sympathetic. There
s this sense of complete hatred for her husband as if he s really a horrendous person, but in
reality she s alone and hurt rather than angry. Throughout the poem, she comes across as very
evil, diabolical, but in a softer sense. Her words don t seem to stick since they re more of a soft
insult rather than harsh and rough, as if a little girl did not get the candy she wants so she s
ignoring her mother for not buying her it, but she s calling her mean and all this in the moment,
but then gets sad because she didn t get that piece of candy. If you take a look at the beginning
stanzas of the poem, she says in her own words, I call it a stone it s nearer the size of a kirk.
When he first started out, it just used to irk, but now its incenses me, and him, the absolute berk.
I could do something vicious to him with a dirk. (2 5). When reading this poem, the first thing
you may realize is that this poem is written as a dramatic monologue, which is a literary technique
used to speak to some kind of non present listener, and she puts this story together in a dramatic
and shocking sort of way as if she

Black Students And Education Inequality
Education inequality continues as more than 140,000 students, predominantly black students, were
kept back in kindergarten in 2012. Black students are more likely to be held back, despite research
showing that holding back children does not benefit them socially or academically. Retention rates
for students increase when they come into their first year of high school. While 12 percent of black
students are held back in ninth grade, the equivalent is just 4 percent of white students (Cook).

It is time to take action in order to relieve African American citizens of strife placed upon them
by way of inequality. There have been solutions stated to solve the given problems of lower
education, substandard housing, and disproportionate payment of the African American race as
compared, mainly, to the Caucasian race. As a way to combat lower education, it is
recommended that schools become more diverse, as opposed to always being predominantly one
race. Schools should be integrated with students of all economical and racial backgrounds, as
well as teachers being diverse for students to have an authority figure to which they may relate.
Not only do African Americans of low income need aid in a school setting, but they also need
some aid in the home setting. Many African Americans are living in poverty and to contest the
poverty that may later result in constant disciplinary action or even so far as dropping out of
school, it would be useful for the government and school system to provide more assistance.
Schools should implement extended time meant for unprivileged students to complete schoolwork,
as well as the school board paying for supplies for said students, as the students are not able to
afford them themselves. Finally, African American employees are nont granted the same pay as
their differently raced counterparts. This may be counteracted by the Paycheck,

The Theory Of Intelligence And Scientific Evidence
Although most people will propose the question, plant s do not have a brain, therefor how could
one consider them as intelligent organisms? , while they are anatomically correct, determining
whether or not plants actually are intelligent beings depends solely on how one defines the word,
intelligent. Ironically, the definition of intelligence is so vague and difficult to describe that even
one provided by Miriam Webster s dictionary contains the word intelligent on three separate
occasions. Accounting for the lack of substance in this definition, a new one was born; intelligence
is the ability to solve problems, interact with other beings and surrounding, and work in groups.
According to this definition of intelligence and scientific evidence, plants are very intelligent.
Similar to the way in which humanbeings evaluate a problem and brainstorm solutions, plants are
also very astute problem solvers. Because plants are sedentary, they have to create innovative ways
to live and reproduce. While plants cannot simply get up and walk away when they dislike their
environments, they change the way they grow to optimize their growth (Clark UGS Lecture, Plant
Intelligence). Plants have the ability to generate their own food source, making them self sustaining
organisms, rather than having to rely on other organisms for nutrients. One way that plants optimize
their growth is through photosynthesis or growing away from shaded areas to catch the light every
time (TED talk,

Reflection Of The Film Corner In Wheat
Corner in Wheat Reflection Paper Corner in Wheat is a film created by D.W. Griffith in 1909. The
film focuses on the three divisions of the wheat market, which was rare at the time because most
films during the early twentieth century focused on people. The first division showcases the
farmers who grow the wheat. The next division portrays the Wheat King, a wealthy businessman
who controls the wheat market. The last division follows the bakery, the place that distributes the
wheat, and the consumers who purchase the bread that is made from the wheat. The filmhas a
variety of elements within the shots of the film. The depth of field is one of the elements that can
be viewed in Corner in Wheat. One of the last shots in the film is the farmersprinkling wheat on the
field. This shot shows how the camera moves from background to the front ground, which
presents deep space. The farmer is shown walking from a distance sprinkling the wheat,
eventually, as he continues walking he moves closer to the camera as he goes about his business.
The depth of the field of the farmer s field is different than the depth of field in the grain elevator.
D.W. Griffin emphasizes space with the background because of the layout which, directly extends
straight back to a door, making this shot have deep space. Moreover, the movement of the people
goes left to right. The staircase is on the left and stands near the hole where the wheat is falling into
the hole and the people are told to continue

Examples Of Chivalry In Beowulf
Some say chivalry is dead , I don t think so. Chivalry is a code of conduct governing a knight s
behavior. It s the combination of qualities expected of an ideal person, especially bravery,

s last Battle, an example of braver was , He could see how his king was suffering ... Wiglaf mind

help his king fight, that showed bravery. An example of bravery today is people going/volunteer
in the military and army. That shows bravery because, you re sacrificing your life for other and
your country. The second element of chivalry is loyalty, in the story we read called Le Monte d
Arthur, an example of loyalty was My lords, I am reluctant to shed christian blood in a war

My Service Advisors Are Not Actively Selling Preventative...
If your service advisors are not actively selling preventative maintenance on a continuous basis,
they are leaving money on the table that should be easy enough to get. This is especially true if
they know customers from dealing with them in the past and have access to their maintenance
history and repair records. It s a matter of being proactive with your customers and explaining the
real value of staying ahead in the repair and maintenancegame.
Every time a customer comes to your service department for any reason, you have an opportunity
to sell them on preventative maintenance that may not come your way again. Often, customers go
to their service department only when they have repair needs they are not sure of, and go to
secondary repair and maintenance shops for things like oil changes, brake service or tires. This is
usually because they believe these kinds of things to be less expensive in outside shops than they
are at their dealership, which is not necessarily so. But, if no one tells them that how will they
know?
Many people neglect to perform preventive maintenance on their vehicles because they have not
been properly informed of the value it brings to them. The may have little or no knowledge of
such things and may be intimidated about asking. Certainly, this is an important part of the job of
a service advisor. Often, because of the negative light that has been focused in recent years on
abusive up selling practices, a service advisors fails to offer

Mosaics in Early Byzantine Era
The increase in mosaics in churches in Late Antiquity and the Byzantine Era was largely due to
the influence of the Roman Emperor Constantine (ruled from 306 to 337 AD). During his rule as
emperor, Christianity became the major religion and there was a push for more buildings to
house the followers of Christ. Along with the new buildings there was a need to decorate these
places of worship accordingly and express the religion in a grandiose sort of way. Mosaics were
generally the inexpensive and impressive answer that was used to convey the church s message.
Through mosaics, the people of the church could learn and be informed of the spiritual and cultural
symbolism (Kleiner and Mamiya 313).

Difference Between Male And Females
In this naturalistic observation study I looked at the differences between male and females
regarding their actions upon greeting another person. I looked at the frequency in which they
hugged or performed a different action (e.g. waving, speech, other etc.). Ultimately this information
was used to find whether males or females hug when greeting more often than the other gender. The
variable of interest in this experiment are gender and the action upon greeting.Gender is
conceptually defined as the state of being maleor female(typically used with reference to social and
cultural differences rather than biological ones). The action upon greeting is conceptually defined
as what both males and females do (e.g. hug or wave, etc.) when meeting with someone of
familiarity. My hypothesis for this observation was that upon greeting someone girls will hug more
often than guys.
In this naturalistic observation in order to remain out of the environment and keep away from
intervening I recorder data a distance away from the main trafficked area of greeting. This was so
my actions or presence would not prohibit the sample population from proceeding with their
natural behavior. My sampling location was only at the Shapiro Undergraduate Library. The time
sampling used was an hour from 6:30 to 7:30 pm. When choosing my sample population I chose

II.Oxygen demand by breakdown of suspended particulate carbonaceous matter.
III.Oxygen demand by oxidation of ammonia to nitrate by nitrifying bacteria present in the effluent
sample.
After undergoing biological treatment in the secondary reactor, residual soluble carbonaceous BOD
matter present in the effluent reduces in concentration to below 15 mg/L. Subsequently, nitrifying
bacteria populations tend to grow rapidly feeding on ammonia which is present in the partially
treated sewage. Nitrification may not be complete at levels of 5 mg/l of residual soluble
carbonaceous biodegradable matter. It depends on whether sufficient oxygen is available for the
oxidation of ammonia to nitrate. Hence, all BOD5 measurements shall adopt nitrification inhibition
step to ensure that the carbonaceous oxygen demand is reflected accurately in the overall BOD
measurement.

Introduction A key component of any ecosystem on Earth is the presence of plants. Within these
plants, variation and diversity are abundant. Plants can vary in many characteristics, such as leaf
structure, height, bark structure, and diameter at breast height. The culmination of this variety
among plants is termed the biodiversity of plants, which encompasses three realms: species
diversity, genetic diversity, and ecosystem diversity. Species diversity pertains to the variety of
species in a specific ecosystem. Genetic diversity refers to variation in specific traits among
individuals of the same species. Finally, ecosystem diversity refers to the variation of ecosystems
in a specific area. For purposes of this study, we will only focus on species diversity. Studying
species diversity of plants entails measuring the amount and size of different species in a given
area. The importance of this type of study stretches far beyond observation and results. Species
diversity among plants in an ecosystem is vital to the sustainability of that ecosystem. An
ecosystem with greater species diversity uses its resources more efficiently, making it more
productive. In addition, greater plant diversity leads to greater community biomass due to reduced
nutrient loss and increased carbon reserves (Tilman et al., 1997). Our study primarily

Trade Disputes Between Countries
Trade disputes have been an issue in Economics and Foreign Policy since their inceptions. Since
the beginning of time, some country has aggravated another, and this will never change. Trade
disputes happen over a variety of products, such as lumber, renewable energy, gold, silver, and
steel., Much of Russian tradedisputes are over oil and steel. Currently, the Russian Federation and
the European Union are in consultation, or deliberation, over certain cold rolled flat steel products
from the Russian Federation and the anti dumping measures attached to those certain products. Anti
dumping measures, as of the last 100 years, have generated a multitude of disputes between
countries and have had an extensive effect on trade in general. The... Show more content on

The Russian Federation believes that the anti dumping measure on some steel products has caused
a decrease in profits from the steel or steel based products as well as the questionable legality of the
anti dumping measures placed upon Russian and Chinese steel by the European Union. According
to the Request for Consultations by the Russian Federation, the European Union imposed definitive
anti dumping duties retroactively, even though the conditions for levying definitive anti dumping
duties retroactively set out in that provision, including the condition in Article 10.6(i) which the
European Union chose to rely upon, were not met and/or not supported by sufficient evidence,
either individually or taken together. (WTO, 2017) and thus there was no evidence or reasoning for
the European Union to establish the anti dumping measures and in fact, the European Union was
inconsistent with the Agreement on Implementation of Article VI of the General Agreement on
Tariffs and Trade 1994 ( AD Agreement ). The Agreement on Implementation of Article VI of the
General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade 1994 was put into effect after the General Agreement on
Tariffs and Trade was replaced with the World Trade Organization (WTO) and the WTO set up
several policies regarding anti dumping measures. The anti dumping measures were a minor
component of the larger trade agreement, formerly known

Facts About Seals Research Paper
Splish, splash! Seals majestically swimming about the ocean blue. There are many astonishing
facts about seals that most people don t know. The origin of seals is surprising. Scientists believe
seals may have evolved from land. Seals may have been on land for more than fifteen million
years. They believe that seals appendages changed to flippers so they wouldn t become extinct
when more water arose. By research, scientists have found that seals DNAis closely related to their
early land ancestors. A newfound fossil, now named the Puijila darwini, may be the long sought
missing link in the evolutionof pinnipeds (seals). The fossil has been found in the Canadian Arctic
and has been found to be over twenty million years old. The fossil had four... Show more content on

Seals have quite a spread when it comes to their habitats. They can be found in the cold regions
of the Antarctic, to warm, extremely sunny places. They are able to survive in the icy conditions
due to the layers of blubber on their bodies that keeps them warm. The seals that live in colder
regions are heavier in size. Seals are breathtaking, more people should educate themselves on seals

Discussion of Black Elk Speaks Essay
Discussion of Black Elk Speaks Black Elk was a holy man of the Oglala band of the Lakota Sioux
nation. Black Elk interpreted his life as a holy man as the story of a mighty vision (BES, p. 2).
As a child, Black Elk was blessed with a great vision from the other world. In receiving his great
vision, Black Elk received a great power, a power to make over (BES, p. 201), a power to make
things better for sick and suffering individuals and nations. He did not know it at the time, but this
vision would be the blueprint of his life. It would guide him through times when he doubted his
importance to his people. He had other visions, but they all tied into the great vision he
experienced as a child. Black Elk made incredible... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These Grandfathers presented Black Elk with gifts to help him on his journey. A wooden cup, a
bow and arrows, a white wing of cleansing, an herb to heal, a sacred pipe a flowering stick and
the power to make live and to destroy were the tools that were given to him. Then, the
Grandfathers showed Black Elk what was to become of his people. He was shown a holy tree
which once had been flowering and was now gone. The people he was supposed to lead were
thin and starving, and Black Elk cried as he saw the fate of his people. Once he was placed back
in the world of his family he was enlightened yet confused. He was unable to do anything with the
powers he was given until he was older. As he came to be a man, he was blessed with a gift of
helping people. He worked curing illnesses until he felt it was time that his life should take
another turn. In 1883, the last of the bison herds were killed. Black Elk could not understand
why the Wasichus would kill animals without using everything it had to offer. That year Black
Elk said, All our people now were settling down in square gray houses, scattered here and there
across this hungry land, and around them the Wasichus had drawn a line to keep them in. The
nation s hoop was broken, and there was no center any longer for the flowering tree. The people
were in despair. (BES, p. 213 214) In 1886, as part of a show, Black Elk traveled to London to study
the Wasichus and their way of life. By studying

Analysis Of Hester Street By Joan Micklin Silver
As John F. Kennedy famously stated, the United States of America exists as a nation of immigrants.
Besides those from Native American descent, every occupant of America can attribute their lineage
to ancestors who emigrated from another country and adopted America as their new home. Coming
to a new nation brings with it a series of difficulties, one of which is the struggle to find balance
between assimilationand the preservation of one s ethnic identity. Such a struggle is very present in
the romantic film Hester Street, directed by Joan Micklin Silver, detailing the lives of Jake and
Gitl, two Jewish immigrants living in New York during the early 20th century. Jake and Gitl each
maintain different attitudes toward assimilation, yet... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Hester Street does a good job of portraying this pressure, demonstrating its effects on specific
characters. After Gitl and Joey s arrival in New York, Jake takes the two, along with Bernstein to
a park outside the city. Pacing around while the other three sit under a tree, Jake exclaims: look
what a place is America, nu, Bernstein? (1:03:00) praising the scenic beauty of the little park, with
its bright sun, towering trees, and luscious grass. His acclaim of his surroundings represents his
sense of pride for the land around him, desiring to tout America to Bernstein, who less identifies
with American culture. Jake represents a very assimilated immigrant, further demonstrated in this
scene by his appearance. Walking around the three, Jake sports a striped, collared shirt and polka
dot tie underneath a snazzy pinstripe vest, as well as well fitted pants, and leather, lace up boots.
Also, besides his mustache, he is clean shaven and wears neat, slicked down hair. Jake s outfit and
hairstyle correspond with the average appearance of an American man of this time, representing his
embrace of American culture. As the shot switches between him, and Bernstein and Gitl, the stark
contrast in their appearances is accentuated, juxtaposing Jake s Americanized garb to the traditional
outfits of their native country of Russia. Bernstein s all black, 3 piece, wool suit, large

Application For Xpertrule And Ethical Issues
Work Related Application for XpertRule and Ethical Issues
The range of applications for XpertRule system to manufacturing, marketing, and sales is so wide.
The system is wide ranging as helping a banker in making financial decisions to helping university
advisors and university students to plan and schedule appointments. For example, in a financial
service industry, XpertRule system can be used by bankers as an advisory system to help make
decisions on whether to make a loan available to individuals or businesses. Globalization and
modern technology have created competition in the financial industry and these competitions come
with risks. Therefore, risk management in the financial industry is important. So persuading
superiors in a financial industry such as in a bank, would not be so difficult because risk
management is needed in credit, operations, and market. Risk management in banks does not only
involve planning and backup but also technical assistance that helps bank managers take quick
action and manage all risks (Mali Kulkarni, n.d). This would help increase quality, reduce error,
decrease manpower, security system in banks, increase speed for complex tasking, increase
customer service, and improve decisions (Mali Kulkarni, n.d).
Although this system has some persuasive advantages, it could also be opposed because it might be
deskilling decision markers. The use of this system could result in the unwarranted reliance on the
system in decision making and the

Frankenstein And A Modern Prometheus
MJ DeMarco, author and entrepreneur, related choices in life to hitting a golf ball. If the club is
rotated even a fraction of a degree when it hits the ball, the ball has a trajectory that diverges
further away from the golf course until it is nearly impossible to get back on track. (Pros) At first
the change is hardly noticeable, but later its consequences are so devastating that its new course is
completely transformed from the course it used to be on. (Pros) Like this situation, DeMarco says
that one bad choicecan set one s trajectory off by only one fraction of a degree today, but in the
future the error is magnified and has monumental consequences. (Pros) What appears to be a good
choice, ends up being a bad choice in the end. This idea connects to two of the main themes in
Frankensteinor A Modern Prometheus: the dangerous pursuit of knowledge and fate versus free will
. The choice to pursue knowledge may be appealing, but it has life threatening consequences, like
fate for instance. In Frankenstein or A Modern Prometheus, Mary Shelley uses the motif of light to
illuminate and connect the themes of fate vs. free will and the dangers of the pursuit of knowledge.
The motif of light establishes a connection with the theme of the pursuit of dangerous knowledge
by forming the concept that light is the way to knowledge. This motif/idea is first introduced in
Walton s first letter when he says, What may not be expected in a country of eternal light? (Shelley

Joseph Stalin s Ignorance
On the death of Vladimir Lenin in 1924, competition emerged between leading Bolsheviks Leon
Trotsky and Joseph Stalin to succeed as Soviet leader. There were several reasons why Stalin,
rather than Trotsky, succeeded Lenin such as Trotsky s ignorance; Stalin s cunning; Trotsky s
arrogance; Stalin s ever increasing influence and Trotsky s relaxed attitude. In this essay I will be
exploring the contribution of Stalin s cunning, and both Trotsky s arrogance and ignorance that
resulted in Stalin s succession and Trotsky s fall from grace. Despite starting his political journey
as a supporter of the Menshevik wing (peaceful communism), Leon Trotskybecame one of the
paramount powers of the Bolshevik party, leading their Red Army to victory during the Russian
civil war of 1918 to 1921; so... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This may have presented the committee members an attitude of superiority by Trotsky, as though
he was too important to be dealing with such inferior men and their childish matters.
Similarly, Trotsky seemed to be ignorant of Stalin s determination and no boundaries attitude to
becoming leader. Deutscher also wrote that Trotsky refrained from attacking Stalin as he felt
secure . In her book, Stalin: Man of Steel (1968), Elizabeth Roberts states that there was little
doubt about the Red Army s support of Trotsky, should he try to seize power. However, he failed
to use his popularity with the Red Army to his advantage because he did not recognise the threat of
Stalin and the possible future need he could have had for them.
It also appears that Trotsky did not realise his removal from his position of Head of the Army by
Stalin s suggestion was part of the latter s plan to clinch power and Robert s report states that
Trotsky made no protest in regards to his new post of being in charge of the electrification of

Microscopy Essay
The resolution of optical microscopes is fundamentally limited by the diffraction of light, as
postulated by German physicist Ernst Abbe in 1873. This means that a microscope cannot
distinguish two objects located closer than О»/2NA, where О» is the wavelength of light and NA is
the numerical aperture of the imaging lens (2). Although elucidation of cell functions and
subcellular processes has benefited from advances in fluorescent microscopy, this diffractionlimit
has fundamentally hindered optical microscopy for over a century (1). Recently, however, several
new developments in imaging have emerged which can circumvent this limit. By delivering optical
images with spatial resolutions below the diffraction limit super resolution microscopy techniques
now permits biologists to visualize structures and processes of cells at the molecular level, down to
several nanometers. This incredible improvement in spatial resolution has allowed biologists to
address important new questions requiring resolutions below 250nm, involving details such as the
fine architecture of cell structures, focal adhesions, microtubules, and coated vesicles. Internal
dynamic processes can also now be studied, including the movement of focal adhesion complexes
and bacteria polarity complexes (3). Super resolution techniques used for live cell imaging studies
can generally be divided into three categories: those based on highly localized fluorescence
emission volumes; those based on structured illumination;

There are also some elements taken from the arts and humanities such as philosophy, history and

Roughly speaking, HRM is mostly concerned with individual and group issues, drawing principally,

  • 2. Mike Rowe s The Broken Basic Bargain Leah LaBelle once stated, ВЁWork hard for what you want because it won t come to you without a fight. You have to be strong and courageous and know that you can do anything you put your mind to. Society is often caught in the realm between making a living and being content with the work someone is completing. Some argue that happiness should come before money, but others feel as though money allows for more opportunities to create joy. In Mike Rowe: Learning from dirty jobs, Rowe addresses that there are several distasteful jobs that are available to the American people, however, The broken basic bargain discusses the psychological issues that can accompany someone should he/she follow one of these unpleasant careers. Risky jobs have existed throughout history. As time goes on... new technologies help reduce risks, but they also create new dangerous jobs. (Garbe, 2014, p. 28). Since the Declaration of Independence was established and perhaps even before that the American people have gone about life knowing that the only way to pave the way for better times was work. However, Life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness, also gave... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Reich discusses that citizens must not only look at what makes his/her dreams come true or what brings him/her happiness, but also what brings them the bottom dollar. He argues that the basic bargain of the American people with the economy is one in which what pays in gets paid back out. In other words, the company that employs someone should pay that worker enough to be able to afford the company s products, thus keeping a constant flow of income for both parties involved. However, as years have gone on, there has been less coming to the people and more going businesses and the government in general. Reich argues that this has caused a downfall not only in the economy, but in a decline in happiness. By using logos heavily with statistics, Reich reaches his audience on numerous ... • 3. A Reflection At The Center For Inclusion And Campus... A Reflection at the Center for Inclusion and Campus Involvement: Social Justice Pre Practicum Unlike my mental health pre practicum which was an off campus endeavor at Aspire Health Partners, my social justice, and advocacy prepracticum took place on the campus of Rollins at the Center for Inclusion and Campus Involvement (CICI). Working this semester for CICI was an eye opening experience. For over four months, I was able to abide by CICI s mission statement which consists of the following values; inclusion, courageous leadership, authenticity, and social change. My endeavors were directed towards the LGBTQ community at Rollins, but I was also able to work with incoming students with Title IX and Buzz to help the new students understand how to be safe in campus. My professional and personal values remained congruent with the social justice and social advocacy mission values of CICI, and afforded me the chance to see the ethics of my mental health counseling program in action. Accordingly, my values stand as self determination to encourage social justice and social change on behalf of my clients. It behooves me to highlight how meaningful this value subsists for me since this was one of the central purposes that inspired me to pursue a career in mental health counseling. As a gay man, I realized that the LGBTQ community needs many advocates for their rights and for society s acceptance, especially for the LGBTQ youth of today. Therefore, I recognized that counseling was ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Characteristics Of Aeneas A Hero Despite his accomplishments and the glory associated with his life, Aeneas only achieves the status of hero through divine intervention, and this god given position causes him just as much grief as it does splendor. What is a hero? We would like to think that a hero is someone who has achieved some fantastic goal or status, or maybe someone who has accomplished a great task. Heroes find themselves in situations of great pressure and act with nobility and grace. Though the main character of Virgil s Aeneid, Aeneas, is such a person, it is not by his own doing. He encounters situations in which death is near, in which love, hate, peace, and war come together to cause both good and evil. In these positions he conducts himself with honor, by going along with what the gods want. Only then goes on to pave the way for the Roman Empire. His deeds, actions, and leadership would never have come to be if it were not for the gods. The gods took special interest in Aeneas, causing him misfortune in some cases, giving him assistance in others. On the whole, the gods constantly provide perfect opportunities for Aeneas to display his heroism. Without them, Aeneas would not be the hero he is. This gift does not come without a price, though; he must endure the things heroes endure to become what they are. Despite his accomplishments and the glory associated with his life, Aeneas only achieves the status of hero through divine intervention, and this god given position causes him ... • 5. Keynesian Theory And The Difference Between Real And... Economics is not only useful to those who use it to determine future outcomes for the world, but it is also an important part of society s everyday life. We unknowingly understand concepts derived from economics when we are trying to make choices of what to buy, what to invest in, when to be conservative about spending, and much more. Understanding the Keynesian theory and the difference between real and nominal variables may not directly affect each other, but both play a part in how we relate economics to our world. Keynesian theory is a concept developed by John Maynard Keynes, in which it is believed that governments should intervene with the economy and how it is dealt. Keynesian economists believe that saving beyond planned investments is a very serious problem that encourages recession. If saving goes beyond investments, there will not be enough demand to purchase the goods and services that the economy is producing. Therefore, leading into a recession, or worse a depression. Keynesian economists believe that a government stimulus is more effective at boosting aggregate demand than a tax cut because they believe that government intervention is a way to stabilize an economy. When governments have programs to benefit people who are doing specific jobs, it will bring that money back into the economy, unlike tax cuts. If the spending is supported by tax increases then this will reduce people s incomes after tax, which will ultimately lead them to reduce their ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

[3] Comparing the first and second experiments, we see that if [I ] is tripled, the rate triples. Therefore the reaction is first order in [I ]. Comparing the first and third experiments, we see that if [S2O8 2] is tripled, the rate also triples. Therefore the reaction is also first order in [I ]. The rate law is therefore rate = k[I ][S2O8 2], overall order is second order. (b) Calculate the rate constant (with the correct units) for this reaction. • 8. Divergent Book Vs Movie The movie Divergent is based on the novel by Veronica Roth. The book and film takes place in future Chicago where there are five factions; Dauntless, Abnegation, Erudite, Amity, and Candor. People in future Chicago take a test to determine what faction is most like them. If multiple factions are the result of the test, then it is determined that the person is Divergent. This is a rare story of Beatrice Prior s experience as being Divergent and surviving in the Dauntless community. By wearing the short sleeves, his muscles are exposed. The significance of the muscles are important because it represents that he is strong and fights for what is right. Jeanine matthews wore a very sophisticated and stiff suit jacket. The jacket symbolizes Matthew s personality; very stiff and sophisticated. Lastly, Natalie Prior showed signs of dauntless costume while remaining abnegation. Her clothing was tight fit, showing that she had control and bravery like a dauntless person. In the same respect, her clothing is grey, which symbolizes the importance of not standing out and being selfless in the abnegation community. The movie Divergent was a drama and science fiction film. This film is for teenagers and young adults that like drama and/or science fiction. • 9. The Harmony Between Hunting And Conservation The Harmony Between Hunting and Conservation In 2014, professional hunter Corey Knowlton, placed a bid of $350,000 for the chance to go on a hunting trip in Namibia. On this trip Knowlton had the chance to hunt and kill the black rhino, an extremely endangered species. This hunt and the ideas that have been used to justify it have started a heated debate on the subject. Animal conservationists, who support the ethical side of the argument, don t understand the desire to kill a beautiful animal for sport. They believe that to sell the rights to the unnatural slaughter of an innocent animal for a trophy sends the wrong message. It seems contradictory and unethical especially in the name of conservation. Conservation by definition is the act... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Hunting and poaching is mainly responsible for the initial decrease in the population of black rhinos specifically. Currently, there are approximately 5,000 black rhinos left in the wild today, and 2,000 of them live in Namibia (Lavandera, 2015). With such a small population size black rhinos and rhinos in general are on the brink of extinction. Aldo Leopold s land ethic theory simply pushes the boundaries of the community to include soils, waters, plants, and animals, or collectively: the land (Leopold, 1948). He believes in giving animals value as that is the only way people can be ethical towards it (Leopold, 1948). Conservationists use this theory to support their argument that it is unethical to bring about death and suffering to an animal for the good of the species in the long run. Richard Leaky, head of the Kenya Wildlife Service, states that conservation hunting sends a negative message that it s okay to hunt these animals and kill endangered species and decreases their value (Melvin, 2015). However, they re there are so many other ways we can increase conservation efforts, the best way being, exposure to the wonders of wildlife and nature starting at a young age (Melvin, 2015). This would increase the animals value and make more people understand and practice the ideas behind the land ethic theory. Not to mention classic conservationists question the contradictory notion that killing an animal this way is an effort to save the animal from ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This essay will discuss Roland Barthes ideas and his semiotic tools, and will also look at how Barthes uses these tools to analyse images and how they make us think. Roland Barthes was a French philosopher who wrote many books about the literary theory and semiotics. His writing has influenced and helped shape many postmodern theories. His most famous book Death of the author explains his theory on visual analysis. Barthes says that when we see an image, the author or creator of the image does not matter. Each individual person will find a meaning from that image. We all analyse images on our own. The meaning of an image lies with the audience. The author is not the authority on the meaning of the image. Although we are all quite similar in what we get from an image, different people will get different meanings. This is due to the experiences we have had throughout life. Barthes says no object has a natural meaning. (Barthes, 1967 p.25) Meanings are defined by culture, so for example, if in the UK someone does the thumbs up , we take this to mean that everything is okay, but if someone does it whilst standing at the side of the road, it means they want a lift, and in scuba diving it means you want to go up to the surface. • 11. Martha Graham And Humphrey Martha Graham and Doris Humphrey are known as the founders, or the pioneers of modern dance. They were of the first to begin the modern dance era, after Isadora Duncan. Graham and Humphrey reshaped the way people looked at dance giving it new meaning. During the 1900 s they defined modern dance and gave it clear recognizable movements that distinguish it from many other dances created in the past. Martha Graham s technique of modern dance consists of very powerful, and emotional movements. They way she moved her body was very off putting or ugly to those who hadn t seen this type of dance. She looks rigid and sharp when she moves rather than flowing and elegant like people were use to seeing in ballet. It was a revolution in motion equal ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... She was very interested in the more natural flowing movements and studied dance in simpler versions. She wanted to remove the dramatic idea in order to focus on the basic principles. One of her dances, Water Study is actually performed with no music. The dancers use their breath and natural wave like movements to create the rhythm of the dance. Humphrey generated studies that focused merely on oppositional and succession movement, rhythm, and the dynamics of falling (Stodelle 1978). She created the fall and recovery technique, which is similar to Graham s contraction and release technique. The main elements of her fall and recovery technique are balance and imbalance (Stodelle 1978). In Humphrey s technique she focuses on the balance, the breath, and the spacial orientation. When the dancer becomes very off balance they spring into a new risky direction. Doris Humphrey and Martha Graham were not close friends, and their views on dance vary. Martha s view being more impulsive, rigid, and dramatic while Doris s is more flowing and natural. However there techniques of fall and recovery, and contraction and release are very similar. Male Gaze In The Male Gaze The Male Gaze is a phrase coined by Laura Mulvey, in which she examines how through media, the portrayal of women has evolved and is seen through the eyes of the male perspective. After the 1960 s sexual revolution, films started to incorporate women as a more objectified aspect, demonstrated by the visual representation of how they provocatively use their bodies. In this essay we will be specifically examining the male gaze in the 1999 s cult classic, Fight Club from both the protagonist and antagonist view and how we as the audience view ourselves, dissected from the way the characters view themselves. • 14. Differences Between Ancient Egypt And Egypt Nearly 5000 years ago, two kingdoms surrounded the Nile river, the North around the mouth of the river and the South stretched along the river for hundreds of miles. The Egypt we re familiar with begins with King Menes, the first Pharaoh. Under his command, the South conquered the Northern lands unifying the two nations into what we now consider Ancient Egypt. Even though the two kingdoms were greatly different, they did have one enormous element in common, the NileRiver. Each spring the southern snow would melt and cause flooding; the waters overflowed and replenished the soil, promising a large harvest that autumn. The entire kingdom vitally depended on this natural rhythm. When western historians created the study of Egyptology they quickly learned the field would need to be simplified. With the help of intellectual locals and decades of work, a previously monumental mass of records was divided into an accepted group of 33 dynasties over 3 periods. On the other hand, the Egyptians never saw their Kingdom divided in that way; to them, Egypt was one, strong, unified land ruled by a godlike Pharaoh providing safety for his people eternally. Harmony (Ma at) is a concept Egypt loved to obsess over; they believed in an endless flow that life and even death allowed them to experience. Practically all surviving remnants from the Old Kingdom period are the grand tombs and burial sites of the royals, often giving us the wrong impression that death haunted the Egyptians. Their ... • 17. Labor Movement In The 1800s Labor Movement During the late 1800 s America became involved in a large labor movement that would shape history. As America was becoming more industrialized, the need for workers increased overnight. The workplace was changing as machines became common and the demand for unskilled workers brought new groups into the workforce including immigrants, women, and children (Aboukhadijeh). The desperation from both employees and employers brought awareness to working conditions. Employees desired better working conditions, increased wages, and decreased working hours. Communicating with employers proved to be futile and fueled union movements. Union members would go on strike to force companies to meet their demands. Sometimes it would work and when it didn t, companies would lock out employees and bring in new workers to do the job. These actions led to violent protests, riots, and arrests. The Pinkertons were hired as security by companies during these trying times. Toward the end of the 19th century, the agency became more involved in labor disputes, always on the side of management (Crawford). The Pinkertons were labeled as villains by workers as blood was shed during these conflicts. By understanding the importance of conduction, one is able to determine the total resistance and visualize how resistors are connected in parallel circuits. This ancient village, aging 9,000 years old, started to be excavated in 1990s (Marchant, 2009). There have been numerous remains discovered by archaeologists, including a large amount of houses and walls, a water well surrounded by stone baluster, a large number of human remains and plenty of artefacts made by stone, wood and bone (Holloway, 2014). One of the most exciting discoveries is some skeletons of women and children, which have been confirmed to be the earliest known cases of tuberculosis (Marchant, 2009). This settlement provides an excellent chance to study life in the Neolithic Age. Reasons of the subsidence of Atlit Yam are complicated. Basically, the erosion of saltwater, the tectonic effects and eustatic effects may all make contribution to the submergence of the village. • 31. Summary Of The Poem What A Jerk What a jerk? That s him pushing the stone up the hill, the jerk (34 37): Seems like Mrs. Sisyphus, throughout the poem, is attempting to rule out her workaholic husband of any chance to explain himself or tell his side of the story on why he works a lot. The reader may even argue that there may be some valid complaints that she states but she s not all that sympathetic. There s this sense of complete hatred for her husband as if he s really a horrendous person, but in reality she s alone and hurt rather than angry. Throughout the poem, she comes across as very evil, diabolical, but in a softer sense. Her words don t seem to stick since they re more of a soft insult rather than harsh and rough, as if a little girl did not get the candy she wants so she s ignoring her mother for not buying her it, but she s calling her mean and all this in the moment, but then gets sad because she didn t get that piece of candy. If you take a look at the beginning stanzas of the poem, she says in her own words, I call it a stone it s nearer the size of a kirk. When he first started out, it just used to irk, but now its incenses me, and him, the absolute berk. I could do something vicious to him with a dirk. (2 5). Black students are more likely to be held back, despite research showing that holding back children does not benefit them socially or academically. Retention rates for students increase when they come into their first year of high school. While 12 percent of black students are held back in ninth grade, the equivalent is just 4 percent of white students (Cook). It is time to take action in order to relieve African American citizens of strife placed upon them by way of inequality. There have been solutions stated to solve the given problems of lower education, substandard housing, and disproportionate payment of the African American race as compared, mainly, to the Caucasian race. As a way to combat lower education, it is recommended that schools become more diverse, as opposed to always being predominantly one race. Schools should be integrated with students of all economical and racial backgrounds, as well as teachers being diverse for students to have an authority figure to which they may relate. Not only do African Americans of low income need aid in a school setting, but they also need some aid in the home setting. Many African Americans are living in poverty and to contest the poverty that may later result in constant disciplinary action or even so far as dropping out of school, it would be useful for the government and school system to provide more assistance. Schools should implement extended time meant for unprivileged students to complete schoolwork, as well as the school board paying for supplies for said students, as the students are not able to afford them themselves. Finally, African American employees are nont granted the same pay as their differently raced counterparts. This may be counteracted by the Paycheck, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 34. The Theory Of Intelligence And Scientific Evidence Although most people will propose the question, plant s do not have a brain, therefor how could one consider them as intelligent organisms? , while they are anatomically correct, determining whether or not plants actually are intelligent beings depends solely on how one defines the word, intelligent. Ironically, the definition of intelligence is so vague and difficult to describe that even one provided by Miriam Webster s dictionary contains the word intelligent on three separate occasions. Accounting for the lack of substance in this definition, a new one was born; intelligence is the ability to solve problems, interact with other beings and surrounding, and work in groups. According to this definition of intelligence and scientific evidence, plants are very intelligent. Similar to the way in which humanbeings evaluate a problem and brainstorm solutions, plants are also very astute problem solvers. Because plants are sedentary, they have to create innovative ways to live and reproduce. While plants cannot simply get up and walk away when they dislike their environments, they change the way they grow to optimize their growth (Clark UGS Lecture, Plant Intelligence). Plants have the ability to generate their own food source, making them self sustaining organisms, rather than having to rely on other organisms for nutrients. One way that plants optimize their growth is through photosynthesis or growing away from shaded areas to catch the light every time (TED talk, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 36. Reflection Of The Film Corner In Wheat Corner in Wheat Reflection Paper Corner in Wheat is a film created by D.W. Griffith in 1909. The film focuses on the three divisions of the wheat market, which was rare at the time because most films during the early twentieth century focused on people. The first division showcases the farmers who grow the wheat. The next division portrays the Wheat King, a wealthy businessman who controls the wheat market. The last division follows the bakery, the place that distributes the wheat, and the consumers who purchase the bread that is made from the wheat. The filmhas a variety of elements within the shots of the film. The depth of field is one of the elements that can be viewed in Corner in Wheat. One of the last shots in the film is the farmersprinkling wheat on the field. This shot shows how the camera moves from background to the front ground, which presents deep space. The farmer is shown walking from a distance sprinkling the wheat, eventually, as he continues walking he moves closer to the camera as he goes about his business. The depth of the field of the farmer s field is different than the depth of field in the grain elevator. D.W. Griffin emphasizes space with the background because of the layout which, directly extends straight back to a door, making this shot have deep space. Moreover, the movement of the people goes left to right. The staircase is on the left and stands near the hole where the wheat is falling into the hole and the people are told to continue ... If your service advisors are not actively selling preventative maintenance on a continuous basis, they are leaving money on the table that should be easy enough to get. This is especially true if they know customers from dealing with them in the past and have access to their maintenance history and repair records. It s a matter of being proactive with your customers and explaining the real value of staying ahead in the repair and maintenancegame. Every time a customer comes to your service department for any reason, you have an opportunity to sell them on preventative maintenance that may not come your way again. Often, customers go to their service department only when they have repair needs they are not sure of, and go to secondary repair and maintenance shops for things like oil changes, brake service or tires. This is usually because they believe these kinds of things to be less expensive in outside shops than they are at their dealership, which is not necessarily so. But, if no one tells them that how will they know? Many people neglect to perform preventive maintenance on their vehicles because they have not been properly informed of the value it brings to them. Mosaics in Early Byzantine Era The increase in mosaics in churches in Late Antiquity and the Byzantine Era was largely due to the influence of the Roman Emperor Constantine (ruled from 306 to 337 AD). During his rule as emperor, Christianity became the major religion and there was a push for more buildings to house the followers of Christ. Along with the new buildings there was a need to decorate these places of worship accordingly and express the religion in a grandiose sort of way. Mosaics were generally the inexpensive and impressive answer that was used to convey the church s message. Through mosaics, the people of the church could learn and be informed of the spiritual and cultural symbolism (Kleiner and Mamiya 313). Early mosaics before this time period had ... I looked at the frequency in which they hugged or performed a different action (e.g. waving, speech, other etc.). Ultimately this information was used to find whether males or females hug when greeting more often than the other gender. The variable of interest in this experiment are gender and the action upon greeting.Gender is conceptually defined as the state of being maleor female(typically used with reference to social and cultural differences rather than biological ones). The action upon greeting is conceptually defined as what both males and females do (e.g. hug or wave, etc.) when meeting with someone of familiarity. My hypothesis for this observation was that upon greeting someone girls will hug more often than guys. In this naturalistic observation in order to remain out of the environment and keep away from intervening I recorder data a distance away from the main trafficked area of greeting. Based on standard BOD measurement, the oxygen demand measured is usually influenced by the following three (3) phenomena: I.Oxygen demand by breakdown of soluble carbonaceous matter. II.Oxygen demand by breakdown of suspended particulate carbonaceous matter. III.Oxygen demand by oxidation of ammonia to nitrate by nitrifying bacteria present in the effluent sample. After undergoing biological treatment in the secondary reactor, residual soluble carbonaceous BOD matter present in the effluent reduces in concentration to below 15 mg/L. Subsequently, nitrifying bacteria populations tend to grow rapidly feeding on ammonia which is present in the partially treated sewage. Nitrification may not be complete at levels of 5 mg/l of residual soluble carbonaceous biodegradable matter. It depends on whether sufficient oxygen is available for the oxidation of ammonia to nitrate. Hence, all BOD5 measurements shall adopt nitrification inhibition step to ensure that the carbonaceous oxygen demand is reflected accurately in the overall BOD measurement. 3.3HEAVY METALS (AAS) The term heavy metal refers to any metallic chemical element that has a relatively high density and is toxic or poisonous at low concentrations. Fagus Grandifolia And Acer Saccharum Case Study Prevalence of Fagus grandifolia and Acer saccharum at Case Western Reserve University farm Gowtham Yerneni Case Western Reserve University Introduction A key component of any ecosystem on Earth is the presence of plants. Within these plants, variation and diversity are abundant. Plants can vary in many characteristics, such as leaf structure, height, bark structure, and diameter at breast height. The culmination of this variety among plants is termed the biodiversity of plants, which encompasses three realms: species diversity, genetic diversity, and ecosystem diversity. Species diversity pertains to the variety of species in a specific ecosystem. Genetic diversity refers to variation in specific traits among individuals of the same species. Finally, ecosystem diversity refers to the variation of ecosystems in a specific area. For purposes of this study, we will only focus on species diversity. Studying species diversity of plants entails measuring the amount and size of different species in a given area. The importance of this type of study stretches far beyond observation and results. Species diversity among plants in an ecosystem is vital to the sustainability of that ecosystem. An ecosystem with greater species diversity uses its resources more efficiently, making it more productive. In addition, greater plant diversity leads to greater community biomass due to reduced nutrient loss and increased carbon reserves (Tilman et al., 1997). Our study primarily ... (Pros) At first the change is hardly noticeable, but later its consequences are so devastating that its new course is completely transformed from the course it used to be on. (Pros) Like this situation, DeMarco says that one bad choicecan set one s trajectory off by only one fraction of a degree today, but in the future the error is magnified and has monumental consequences. The choice to pursue knowledge may be appealing, but it has life threatening consequences, like fate for instance. • 56. Joseph Stalin s Ignorance On the death of Vladimir Lenin in 1924, competition emerged between leading Bolsheviks Leon Trotsky and Joseph Stalin to succeed as Soviet leader. There were several reasons why Stalin, rather than Trotsky, succeeded Lenin such as Trotsky s ignorance; Stalin s cunning; Trotsky s arrogance; Stalin s ever increasing influence and Trotsky s relaxed attitude. In this essay I will be exploring the contribution of Stalin s cunning, and both Trotsky s arrogance and ignorance that resulted in Stalin s succession and Trotsky s fall from grace. Despite starting his political journey as a supporter of the Menshevik wing (peaceful communism), Leon Trotskybecame one of the paramount powers of the Bolshevik party, leading their Red Army to victory during the Russian civil war of 1918 to 1921; so... This may have presented the committee members an attitude of superiority by Trotsky, as though he was too important to be dealing with such inferior men and their childish matters. Similarly, Trotsky seemed to be ignorant of Stalin s determination and no boundaries attitude to becoming leader. Deutscher also wrote that Trotsky refrained from attacking Stalin as he felt secure . In her book, Stalin: Man of Steel (1968), Elizabeth Roberts states that there was little doubt about the Red Army s support of Trotsky, should he try to seize power. However, he failed to use his popularity with the Red Army to his advantage because he did not recognise the threat of Stalin and the possible future need he could have had for them. It also appears that Trotsky did not realise his removal from his position of Head of the Army by Stalin s suggestion was part of the latter s plan to clinch power and Robert s report states that Trotsky made no protest in regards to his new post of being in charge of the electrification of ... • 57. Microscopy Essay The resolution of optical microscopes is fundamentally limited by the diffraction of light, as postulated by German physicist Ernst Abbe in 1873. This means that a microscope cannot distinguish two objects located closer than О»/2NA, where О» is the wavelength of light and NA is the numerical aperture of the imaging lens (2). Although elucidation of cell functions and subcellular processes has benefited from advances in fluorescent microscopy, this diffractionlimit has fundamentally hindered optical microscopy for over a century (1). Recently, however, several new developments in imaging have emerged which can circumvent this limit. By delivering optical images with spatial resolutions below the diffraction limit super resolution microscopy techniques now permits biologists to visualize structures and processes of cells at the molecular level, down to several nanometers. This incredible improvement in spatial resolution has allowed biologists to address important new questions requiring resolutions below 250nm, involving details such as the fine architecture of cell structures, focal adhesions, microtubules, and coated vesicles. Internal dynamic processes can also now be studied, including the movement of focal adhesion complexes and bacteria polarity complexes (3). Super resolution techniques used for live cell imaging studies can generally be divided into three categories: those based on highly localized fluorescence emission volumes; those based on structured illumination; ... It is, then, a broad field which, to add to the confusion, also goes under several different names, some of which you will encounter when reading texts on the subject. The two main areas are generally called Human Resource Management (HRM) and Organisational Behaviour (OB), but the field is also sometimes called Organisational Analysis (OA), Behaviour in Organisations (BinO), Organisation Studies (OS), and a host of other names, including the practitioner area called Organisational Development (OD). There are, in fact, subtle nuances and variations in emphasis denoted by the different labels. OB and HRM, for example, are both concerned generally with people at work , although they focus on different levels of analysis. Roughly speaking, HRM is mostly concerned with individual and group issues, drawing principally, but not exclusively, from psychology, whereas OB tends to focus on organisational factors such as structure, design and culture, having its main theoretical base in A recent example is Chaos Theory, taken from mathematics and physics and ...
