Oppressive Classrooms
The year was 1987. My mom was a freshman in college. She felt virtually invisible in her Intro to
Anthropology course of around 300 people. It wasn t her best class, but she was still surprised when
she received a C on the paper she wrote. She hadn t thought she d done that badly. Confused, she
scheduled an appointment to talk to her professor about it. She walked into his office asking where she
d gone wrong, so she could understand and improve. The professor took the paper and changed the
grade to an A. I thought you were someone else, he told her ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

It gives students a better understanding of their academic abilities and prevents students from being
powerless in their own education. Grades have served to dehumanize students. Instead of being seen
as full, complete beings they are reduce to A students, C students, and students failing the class. This
judgment is not only made by their teachers but by society as a whole. Parents often set standards for
what their kids grades need to be and punish them if they don t reach the mark. Friends and classmates
compare the results of tests and report cards, making learning into a competition where some are
better than others. Additionally, and perhaps the most disturbingly, for some students, grades become a
reflection of their own worth. It doesn t help that in many ways our future is defined by our GPA. In a
world where grades carry such weight, they can seem awfully fatalistic. A streak of bad ones can look
like the end of a dream career. A friend of mine is facing just that reality. Her GPA is lower than she
expects and lower than what it takes to get herself to grad school. With the added possibility of
disappointing her parents or losing her scholarship, each assignment is an anxiety provoking threat,
which could take her closer to failure. The way we ve set up schools, once your grades drop, it
becomes increasingly hard to bring them back up. Many students faced with mounting

Guilt In Vera Claythorne, And Then There Were None
Ten little soldier boys went out to dine; One choked his little self and then there were Nine...One little
soldier boy left all alone; he went and hanged himself And then there were None (Green). A group of
10 strangers are sent to the mysterious Soldier Island for a so called vacation. What they don t know is
that there is one murderer among them. During their first night on the island, a mysterious record
reveals the darkest secret of each person, they are murderers. Soon after that, the first murder is
committed and death is among them. As the crowd of ten diminishes, the china soldiers on the table do
as well, until there are none. In And Then There Were None by Agatha Christie, the theme of guilt is
portrayed when Vera Claythorne hangs herself, when the record is played on the gramophone, and
when Miss Emily Brent has flashbacks. Throughout the whole book, Vera Claythorne s guilt builds up,
and she reaches her breaking point after she kills Philip Lombard. After Vera kills Phillip because she
fears that he is the murder, Vera then treks back up to the lengthy mansion, going into her room and
hanging herself because of the mass amounts of guilt that she faces. As the narrator states, She
climbed up on the chair, her eyes staring in front of her like a sleepwalker s. She adjusted the noose
around her neck... She kicked the chair away (Christie 287). This quote reflects on how because of all
of the guilt Vera faced during her time on Soldier Island, she took her own life.

Movie Piracy: Why the Debate Some people have an interest in opening a new business for
themselves. Nowadays, people have ways of making money easily on their own. There are several
ways people do to get money, for example, cab driving, ride sharing, selling food on the street and
opening stores to sell pirated movies. Everyone has their own opinion on pirated movies but the
pirated movie is the illegal duplicate of films for private enterprise or individual use. The use of
movies lacking approval from the author or holder of that press, or to earn such media, by law, and
formulate it available through binder allocate web for different people to use. This form of exercise is
called piracy, also those who act in these applications are known as pirates. Many people like to pirate
movies because there has been a technological advancement and internet therefore connectivity is easy
and accessible, Hollywood movies are expensive and people cannot afford, lack of law enforcement to

movies, lack of strict law enforcement on copywriters in the desire to watch rare and new movies does
not give an individual the authorities to acquire that movie; software or anything illegal means. People

Text Neck Thesis
OF TEXT NECK FROM YOUR SMARTPHONE With technology in the palm of our hands, we are
spending more time glued to our devices these days, and while phones and tablets are convenient, they
are a pain in the neck literally. That pain you feel in your neck, back, or shoulders after staring down
for a long period of time at your phone is called Text neck. The term originated by Florida
chiropractor Dr. Dean Fishman is defined as injury to the body caused by excessive texting and
overuse of all handheld electronic devices. Text neck can result in serious health problems including
flattening of the spinal curve, muscle and nerve damage, spinal degeneration, and the onset of early
arthritis. Fishman calls it an epidemic and says the condition is impacting millions. According to a
study conducted by New York spine surgeon Kenneth Hansraj, bending your head to look at the
mobile device in your hands can put up to 60 pounds of pressure on your neck. And it s not just teens
who are checking their phones constantly; most adults are also obsessed with their phones and tablets,
using the devices for texting, videos, and social media. Text neck is not just a texting problem, says
Fishman. Text neck is a gaming problem. Text neck is an emailing problem. ... Show more content on

However, they urge people to exercise caution. Hansraj says, We recommend people should continue
to enjoy their smart devices, but that they pay specific attention to where their head is in space. He
says the head should be straight up when using a smart device. Instead of being hunched over your
technology, simply move your phone or tablet higher while reading or scrolling. Another tip? Put the
phone down. Physical experts suggest taking frequent breaks when using your desktop computer or

Post Graduation Plans
After graduation my ideal plan would be to go into an industry career. I want to get into an
engineering related job first to provide myself with some experience in that aspect of the field. I want
to be selective in choosing the company that I begin my career with. I want to ensure that the company
that I choose has a program related that aids in helping their employees get advanced degrees. During
my first year in my career I want to get into a master s degree program either focusing on engineering
or cyber security. I know there is a market for black women in both of those aspects of computer
science so I want to tailor myself so that I am a candidate that is highly sought after. This summer I

can add to my resume that will show that I am a great candidate for any position I apply to. This
should be happening all year long. | Apply for jobs I plan for my job hunt to include companies other
than Boeing; including IBM, Microsoft, Apple, Google, JP Morgan, Bank of America, etc. This should

Evolution Of Chemical Warfare
Records of the implementation of chemicals in battle tactics on a simple scale can be found as early as
the Bronze Age.1 However, relatively recent developments in industry have facilitated the production,
mobilization, and dissemination of destructive chemical agents. As a result of said technological
innovations, the scale of implementation has shifted, resulting in vastly amplified hazards to not just
military personnel, but also to the general public.2 3 The Geneva Protocol was enacted in 1925 with
goals to prevent the future abuse of harmful and arguably cruel tactics in warfare.2 This was in direct
response to the implementation of phosgene and chlorine gasses by Germany as weapons of mass
destruction at Ypres, Belgium in 1915, considered ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Juxtaposition Between Good And Evil In The Characters Of...
The chronicles of Beowulf are episodic and carries many conundrums. Specifically, there lies an
enormous contrast between good and evil. The protagonist, Beowulf, is chivalrous, mighty, and loyal.
By the same token, Beowulf s extraordinary showing of patriotism enables him to be the ultimate
keeper of justice. On the other hand, Grendel upholds evil that is derived from pure envious. It is
important to note, that Grendel expresses a high level of combat experiences, just as Beowulf,
however, the wicked man uses his unwavering incitement for iniquitous ways. All things considered,
the juxtaposition between the great Beowulf, and the relentless Grendel, has many significant
distinctions between both characters, including, the contrast between honorable and villainous.
Although, both individuals possess superhuman characteristics, the differences in Beowulf s
confidence, ethics, and bravery will out match Grendel s jealous, irrational, and forsaken soul; As a
matter of fact, the worthy warrior will be crowned victor because God does not let the nefarious waste
away the righteous.
Above all, Beowulf s rather extraordinary confidence, encourages the demise of any opposition. The
noble warrior boasts of his skill often in Beowulf. In particular, Seamus Heaney affirms Beowulf s
public gloat:
I had a fixed purpose when I put out to sea.
As I sat in the boat with my band of men,
I meant to perform to the uttermost what your people wanted or perish in the attempt, in the

Huey P. Newton And The Black Panther Party
During the late 1960 s and early 70 s posters of the Black Panther Party s co founder, Huey P. Newton
were plastered on walls of college dorm rooms across the country. Wearing a black beret and a leather
jacket, sitting on a wicker chair, a spear in one hand and a rifle in the other, the poster depicted Huey
Newton as a symbol of his generation s anger and courage in the face of racism and imperialism
(Albert and Hoffman 4, 45). His intellectual capacity and community leadership abilities helped to

It is out of this change of the movement s focus where Huey arrives at the idea for Black youth to
openly display weapons. This action would be soon to serve as a founding principal within the
Panthers. Eventually serving as a founding principal of the Panthers, Huey s suggestion for a
demonstration of armed protest was inspired by Malcolm X s philosophy for self defense. The SSAC s
rejection of Brothers On the Block , eventually led to Huey and Bobby s resignation from the Campus
Organization. Fed up with the increasing police brutality towards African Americans and the SSAC
rejection of Brothers On the Block , Huey and Bobby decided to form an organization to monitor
police behavior in black neighborhoods and protect the rights of African Americans. This organization
was the Black Panther Party for Self Defense (BPP). The Panthers stormed into American history in
1966 when Huey P. Newton wrote the platform for the party. The platform made an aggressive call for
power to determine the destiny of our black community . with the immediate emphasis on the need
for organizing black defense groups to end police brutality. Huey and Bobby created a uniform for
the Panthers demonstrating the seriousness and discipline of the Party s platform. The Black Panthers
first action was to follow Oakland Police cars, either on foot or in cars, while dressed in black pants,
black leather jackets, starched blue shirts and black berets, carrying loaded shot guns. The Oakland

The Best Selling Garment Of All Time
Marked the best selling garment of all time , denim has been a key participant in the evolution of
popular culture (Weber 2006). Originally making its public debut appearance within the mining
sectors in the mid 1800s, denim has become a product of globalization, as it gained both attention and
wear by billions (Foreman 2015). As various styles have evolved from denim, jeans have deemed
consistency throughout popular culture movements, withstanding the test of time. Not only has denim
broken barriers of age, class, and race, but the way in which jeans have been altered is a direct product
of popular culture, carried out via youth subcultures.
Why study something as acquisitive as denim when examining theories of popular culture, particularly
when trends come and go? British media theorist and sociologist Dick Hebdige is distinguished for his
popular culture studies, as he is labeled as the primary popular culture reference maker. His research
via sociological analysis has paved the way for proceeding theorists to further explore the complexity
of popular culture movements. Denim, however, is unique in the sense that the evolution of this single
garment has disrupted orthodox societal structures not only in its country of origin, but also globally.
Its invention and circulation epitomize the exchange and intersection of cultural studies, allure a wide
audience, and exemplify both political and economic societal shifts.

silicone and fiberglass, inviting us into a world where the advances of biotechnology along with
digital technologies are challenging the boundaries of humanity. She exhibits a personal perspective

Mannitol Salt Agar Lab Report
Mannitol Salt Agar (MSA) differentiates halophile bacteria, and bacteria s ability to ferment mannitol.
Fermenting mannitol results with a yellow halo around colony from the acid produced (staphylococcal
species). MSA is composed of enzymatic digest of casein and animal tissue (nitrogen, vitamin carbon
source), D mannitol (carbohydrate), NaCl (7.5%, halophiles), phenol red (indicator pH 6.8 turns
yellow), and agar (coagulate), with a final pH of 7.4. Unknown 6 did not grow since it is gram
negative, and cannot tolerate the high salt concentration. Also there was no yellow halo since the
colony did not survive therefore could not metabolize mannitol. This is because there is not a thick
peptidoglycan wall; therefore the cell will go through ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Durham tubes differentiate a microorganism s ability to ferment sugar (mannitol, dextrose, and
lactose) that may produce a gas, but acidic byproducts will turn solution yellow. Unknown 6 was
yellow in all three test tubes suggesting acidic conditions (fermentation occurred), however lactose
and mannitol were cloudy, dextrose remained clear. There was no gas present in any of the Durham
tube. Urease broth determines if a organism can hydrolyze urea with urease. It contains urea, nutrients,
pH buffers, phenol red (indicator). Unknown 6 tested negative because it remained yellow and clear,
therefore the pH did not rise, because no acid was produced from hydrolyzing urea. Sulfur Indole
Motility Media (SIM deep) differentiates microorganisms that reduce sulfur, produce indole, and are
motile. H2S is reduced by cysteine catabolism, or thiosulfate, and HCl, p
dimethylaminobenzaldehyde, n amyl alcohol (Kovac s reagent). SIM deep contains nutrients, peptone
(tryptophan), iron, sodium thiosulfate. Unknown 6 tested negative to sulfur reduction and indole
production, and remained yellow (after Kovac s reagent was added), and it is non motile since the agar
remained clear. Kliger s Iron Agar (KIA) differentiates glucose, and lactose fermentation to acids and
gasses, specifically sulfur reducers. It contains small amounts of glucose (to be exhausted), phenol red
(indicate acid), lactose (secondary sugar). Fissures are the result of gas byproducts. Unknown 6
fermented glucose, it failed to ferment lactose. It remained red with a yellow butt, the surface was
pink. It tested negative for H2S, or gas formation.Simmons Citrate Agar tests an organism use of
citrate as the only carbon source. Citrase hydrolyzes citrate into oxaloacetic and acetic acid.
Oxaloacetic acid is hydrolyzed into pyruvic acid and carbon dioxide. It contains sodium citrate

DNA in Forensics Essays
The origins of DNA were first discovered during 1857 by Gregor Mendel the Father of Genetics ,
whom was performing an experiment of genetics with pea plants, and would provide a basic
foundation towards DNA and Genetics. Friedrich Miescher and Richard Altmann in 1869 were also
part of the first people to discover DNA. While testing some sperm of a salmon, they discover a
strange substance that they would name as nuclein , which is known as DNA. This new form of
nuclein (DNA) would be found to only exist in chromosomes. Frederick Griffith, a researcher, found
the basis on DNA, from a molecule inheritance experiment involving mice and two types of
pneumonia. His findings were that, when virulent disease is heated up (to kill) and is ... Show more

Law Enforcement keep notes on arrests that have founded people innocent of crimes, and retention of
an innocent person s DNA can be charge or otherwise, seen as a invasion of that person s privacy and
civil liberties. Dr. Alec Jeffrey, a former professor at the University of Leicester laboratory, consulted
with his lawyers to develop the new type of technique called DNA profiling. His technique would
prove that DNA fingerprinting (profiling) can individualize evidence compared to the blood typing.
DNA profiling compares 13 standard STRs to form a profile. The analysis used by the scientists, uses
PCR and STRs to profile an individual. It is highly unlike that two individuals identical numbers of
repeats for all 13 STRs, will match, which DNA fails is hardly never due to a successful match of 385
million to 1. This makes DNA profiling the most accurate tool in Forensics.
Criminologists, usually Forensic scientists, collect DNA sources of semen, saliva, hair follicle, body
cells, skin, and blood. They must always wear gloves, mask, and use disposable instruments. This help
prevents the DNA being contaminated, to where it would not be useable. The collected samples must
be bagged and label in envelopes but not plastic bags! Plastic Bags retain moisture that will damage
DNA, another reason why DNA must be protected and label is that direst sunlight and weather
condition may damage DNA.

Innocent Man
A book Review of The Innocent Man
By, Oscar Thomas
Novelist, former attorney, and Mississippi legislator, John Grisham, wrote the book entitled Innocent
Man. As a small town lawyer in the South, he experienced many events that provided him with a clear
view of families and communities. For this particular book, however, he gathered research that would
provide insight to the justice system of Oklahoma and he found injustice that took the best years of a
man s life.
While reading several selections Grisham book, I conclude that he is definitely pro anti capital

In an era where everyone is so concerned about the money, denying a defendant a reasonable amount
of funding (to his public defender) for expert consultants and their testimonies could save thousands
upon millions of dollars in wrongful prosecution lawsuits later. With the advent of DNA, many
previously convicted men and women are being let out. Interestingly enough, DNA evidence isn t the
ONLY thing that would have exonerated them, but no one would listen. One issue I think Grisham
was trying to help people see is the fact that we should not believe what we THINK, it has to be what
we KNOW. What is the harm in humane treatment? Yes, criminals should be kept from the public, but
since the justice system is not perfect and will make mistakes they shouldn t be so self righteous about
their treatment of those they deem unworthy.
Ron s example was just one of many who, because they are not the smartest, most capable souls, they

AVID Socratic Seminar
In the module for week two there were several ideas that you can implement in your classroom. For
instance you could try the walk and talk discussion strategy. This strategy simply means that the
students read a selected piece of literature and have a small group discussion about teacher created
topics posted around the room. The resources/idea for this strategy includes identifying main ideas and
develop 4 5 questions pertaining to the ideas. Afterword s you type up questions to be printed out and
placed around the room. You then should secure large sheets of butcher paper or whiteboard space for
the students to write down the groups ideas, once this task is completed make sure you have supplied
each group with dry erase or regular felt tip pens. Aside from this wonderful strategy there was
another traffic strategy that was discussed it was the 4 2 1 method. Students generate four big ideas
from the text. Students then pair with someone else and share their four big ideas. After sharing their
ideas, they must decide which ones from their lists are the 2 big ideas. That pair then pairs up with
another pair and they share their 2 big ideas. That group of 4 must then determine which of the ideas
on their list is the 1 big main idea. Each group ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

does that by allowing students the opportunities to examine a common piece of text, whether it is in

Erich Fromm s Disobedience as a Psychological and Moral...
Erich Fromm s Disobedience as a Psychological and Moral Problem In Disobedience as a
Psychological and Moral Problem, Erich Fromm (1963) argues that society will self destruct without
achieving freedom through disobedience. Fromm begins with analogies of Hebrew and Greek
mythology showing how disobedience to a god freed humans. Using this correlation, Fromm shows
freedom as a condition for disobedience, and vice versa. Therefore, Fromm proclaims that without
disobedience the human race could destroy itself within a generation. Fromm s article, first published
in 1963, stems from fear of a third world war. Despite the outdated comment by Behrens and Rosen in
the introduction, the article still applies to suggestion human ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Fromm relates this to the fetus in the womb and to cutting the umbilical cord to become fully human.
In both situations, Fromm believes the disobedience in both situation results in freedom. The Adam
and Eve analogy holds true only to creationists, not to evolutionists. Atheists, agnostics, and other
religions simply reject the Garden of Eden story. For these people, the process of becoming fully
human resulted in evolution over thousands of years. However, if the analogy is true for the fetus, one
must assume the mother demands the baby to stay in the womb, not to enter the new world. Yet the
purpose of procreation is to bring a new child into this world. Birth is a natural process, not a medical
procedure, thus cannot be forever prolonged (Childbirth.org). How often is it mothers are disappointed
pregnancy did not last longer? Most mothers become ecstatic when pregnancy is over and she can
enjoy God s creation. Fromm (1963) uses the analogy in his essay to suggest the baby disobeys God.
However, once conception occurs, the mother has only one choice under God s law giving birth. A few
examples of God s will are in 1 Timothy 2:15, women will be saved through childbearing, and how
Exodus 21:22 23 mentions morally wrong abortion. With thousands of biblical examples, it should be
hard for a religious scholar to suggest a baby disobeys God s will by leaving its mothers womb.
Disobeying God can

NC Graduation Project In North Carolina the problem that is needed to be addressed is poverty and
homeless people throughout the entire state. Some of the problems the are leading causes to poverty
and homeless people is unemployment, which is leading to less to none employment opportunities
Leading Causes of Poverty , and income disparity which is leading to many families to not be able to
pay bills, buy, or manage income. With the current issue of the causes and effects of poverty and
Homelessness in North Carolina, I had to complete community service hours at the Hoke Emergency
Liaison Program or H.E.L.P to see the issue first hand. The Organization has had many years dealing
with the big issue to this very and is still going to make sure they can help every person they can and
to get rid of homelessness and poverty. What is poverty? Poverty can have all different meanings to
everybody. For example The World Bank organization believe poverty is not having enough money to
meet basic needs including food, clothing and shelter. Also In addition to a lack of money, poverty is
about not being able to participate in recreational activities, not being able to send children on a day
trip with their schoolmates or to a birthday party, and not being able to pay for medications for an
illness. Mainly poverty is the state of being extremely poor but not always homeless and unable to pay
some necessity. Even though many people may be

One Flew over the Cuckoo Nest Critical Analysis
One flew over the cuckoo nest One Flew Over the Cuckoo s Nest The film One flew Over the Cuckoo
s Nest accurately depicts and presents the various psychological issues, such as the use of
psychosurgery, institutionalism inside the psychiatric hospital and the medical and societal attitudes
towards patients during the 1960s. Set in 1963, the film uses characters patients and authority figures
alike and setting to accurately depict various aspects of psychological treatments, theories and
concepts applied, before more ethical practices were introduced later in the 20th century. The film
itself was extremely powerful in presenting the methods it used by psychiatric asylums to treat its
patients, and was credited with tarnishing the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is in this context that the film One Flew Over the Cuckoo s Nest is identified as a possible medium
to investigate the nature and effect of a psychiatric system as accurately portrayed through this
particular film, The film depicts the psychiatric system as rigid, leaving patients with little room to
express their individuality. The effect of the staff members behaviour on the patient s
psychotherapeutic growth, highlights the staff s ignorance and lack of knowingness of their individual
responsibility, contributing to the psychopathology of not only the patients , but also the system as a
whole. The interactional style of the psychiatric staff, as portrayed in the film, serves to contribute to
the deterioration of the mental and psychological well being of the patients , thus inhibiting their
psychological growth. The majority of One Flew over the Cuckoo s Nest takes place in the Day Room
of the hospital. The setting adds to the feeling of confinement, with the men often resorting to playing
games of chess or resorting to cards to pass their time. The space of the institution itself is
characterised by an obsession with routines, and adherence to control and confinement that is, under
Nurse Ratchet s control. Medicine time, music time, recreation time each are strictly designated and

Entrepreneurship in the Brazilian offshoring industry Essay
Case 1: Entrepreneurship in the Brazilian offshoring industry
Brazil is one of the nations included in BRIC (Brazil, Russia, India, and China). In the past, Brazil s
outsourcing industry has been the smallest of the four BRIC nations. This is very surprising due to the
close proximity to the United States and the current trend of near shoring . However, due to recent
governmental backing and inflows of capital Brazil has begun to improve and could possibly overtake
Russia, India and China in the offshoring industry. The most promising sector in Brazil is their IT
sector.

Access to Research Development
One reason for Brazil s success is due to their rapid spending in science and government incentives.
However, concerns over rising inflation and an overheated economy has led Brazil s newly elected
President to implement across the board government spending cuts, totaling close to $30 billion.
Resulting from the cut was a $577 million reduction in funding for the Ministry of Science
Technology, which was about 11% of the previous year s budget. This lack of R D spending could
become a weakness for the future of Brazil[4].
In response to the growing concern, Brazil s government established a new panel to study the future of
science in the country. The panel will draw up long‑term plans for sustaining R D within the
country[4].
Technology
In IT technology Brazil is well staffed with its 250,000 IT professionals, 23,000 annual IT graduates,
and infrastructure capable of supporting double digit growth. According to the Brazilian Association
of Information Technology and Communication Companies (BRASSCOM), Brazil s offshore
outsourcing market hit $1.4 billion in 2008, rising 75 percent in a single year. An October, 2009 report
from Gartner states that Brazil s economic footprint combined with having the largest domestic IT
consumption in all of Latin America, as well as international recognition as one of the most promising
and rapidly emerging economies, makes it a natural

Culture Values
Texts reflect the culture and values of their eras by presenting and addressing perspectives of the
composers on the issues of the context. The poem The End and the Beginning by Wislawa
Szymborska and the Austrian film 71 Fragments of a Chronology of Chance by Michael Haneke
accomplish this by exemplifying issues in 1990s society such as the increasing influence of media and
the breakdown of interpersonal communication.
The End and the Beginning is a Polish poem by Wislawa Szymborska which captures a wars
aftermath on its innocent citizens and how, in time, both the war and its origins are forgotten. It thus
shows how the values of a country or society may change over time as the views and opinions of its
citizens change.
The overall ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This fragmentation is also visually portrayed through the jigsaw like paper game. Part way through the
film, a student fails to solve the puzzle leading to an outburst of anger, foreshadowing his final act of
violence.
Haneke has also used subtle film techniques to add to the sense of a breakdown of communication.
The camera is always positioned in such a way that makes the audience feel detached from the
characters. Rather than connecting emotionally with the characters, the audience is made to analyse
them, thus reflecting the emotionless state which our society has assumed with changing values. The
characters themselves are not named, allowing them to become representative of types within society.
The use of media is also present throughout the film with Haneke showing the increasingly invasive
presence of media within society as values change and mankind becomes more technological and
industrialised. By repeating the same articles at the end with the embedding of the films event as
another story, Haneke comments on how the media subsumes any disturbance into the even surface of
society and integrates it into the unending stream of trivialised information.
The film also serves a didactic purpose, as Haneke highlights and criticises the blatant use of violence
in Hollywood action films, saying that his films are intended as polemical statements against the

Living Conditions During The Industrial Revolution
The industrial revolution! Like its name suggests was a revolution that lead to a period where radical
changes transformed Britain s social classes, it s economy, and was the transition to new
manufacturing processes. By hearing this, many people think of the industrial revolution as being a
change that led to a greater standard of living because machines allowed a greater number of goods to
be produced that were impossible to produce before. There is no doubt that the economic growth that
was seen during this period still fuels the present state of Britain today. Most historians talk about the
industrial revolution as the booming period that led to many changes which greatly benefitted society,
but many forget the opposite side of this all. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Workers were required to work long hours in the factories with little attention given to how they were
performing after they became increasingly tired. Workers were given long hours of labour in which
there was no break, they just had to repeat the same task over and over again (Fielden, 1836). This was
because factories did not want to stop their production of goods which filled the pockets of the already
wealthy factory owners. Similarly, workers who wanted to rebel against the customs feared that the
legislation would not pass and they would have to leave their job and end up on the street (Fielden,
1836).Therefore, workers were not only helpless to work for endless hours; they were also suppressed
and could not raise their voice against the wrongdoings that were being forced upon them. The
working class was mistreated because they could not object to the system, since there were no rights
for workers during the first phase of the industrial revolution as many people did not notice this ill
treatment. These conditions had negative health consequences on individuals which made them weak
and unable to provide efficient labour. The textile mills had a single small door from which workers
were allowed to enter and exit, which created a heated atmosphere unfit for survival (Gaskell, 1833).
As described, the atmosphere

Marketing Research And Sustainable Management Practice
In such a volatile and complex industry as tourism, marketing research, an integral part of marketing
planning process, plays a crucial role in shaping a framework that guides Destination Management
Organisations (DMOs) decisions, be it public or private. At operational level, market intelligence
would help DMOs gain market insights, bridge the gap between tourism products and visitors and
potentially explore new markets. Without market data, goal and objectives would be unrealistic thus
resulting in inefficient marketing programmes. The report discusses attempts to promote San Juan
Islands an archipelago part of the U.S. state of Washington, through their marketing plan. Drawing on
the marketing process proposed by Middleton et al. (2009) and relevant literatures, what emerges from
the plan is the lack of market data, lack of measurable objectives and lack of sustainable management
practice. As a result, the report recommends a comprehensive marketing research and sustainable
management practice.

Perry Glanzer s Essay On Religion In Public Schools
Perry Glanzer also touches on the idea that religions should be equally represented in education in his
article Religion in Public Schools. He gives examples of various cases throughout the United States in
which students were singled out by educators after their attempt in religious expression in order to
maintain censorship, which could be prevented by education and the equal sharing of knowledge of
various religions to make students more comfortable with various personal religious expressions.
Fortunately, Glanzer says, the basic principle of fairness toward religious and nonreligious
perspectives is beginning to be reinforced through legislation and Supreme Court jurisprudence. It is
currently embodied in the Equal Access Act, which ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

children for their futures. Since there are various religions in the United States, none of which are

their lifetimes. If public schools were to include theology, children would be more open minded,
aware, and tolerant of these religions, thus preventing discrimination, prejudice, and even violence and
acts of targeted terrorism in the future because of these differing beliefs. Religious education would

David Ives Sure Thing Analysis
The play Sure Thing by David Ives is about two people who meet at a small café. They start talking to
each other and each time someone says something wrong, or the conversation goes south, a bell rings
and they start over. In the end, they end up liking each other a lot and have a longer stretch of
uninterrupted dialogue. This play is a challenging piece to work with as a director since there isn t
much to it. However, if one were to look at it from a film production perspective, more could be done.
To enhance this piece, working with camera angles and background music will be the best way to go.
Since this piece is a lot of dialogue and very little movement, several different camera angles will be
needed to make it interesting. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Of course, music doesn t need to be under the whole thing. But they are in a café and cafés come with
noise, whether that be the machines, radio, or the other customers. Plus it is nighttime and people are
coming in and out of the café, so there is bound to be sound from the traffic and nightlife filtering in.
Music and background noise adds a really powerful aspect to any piece and sometimes the lack of
music makes a scene even more dramatic. However, building up music for intense scenes can pull the
audience in. For example, when Betty and Bill are really going at it and having to start over several
times (Ives 1053), I am picturing the music picking up speed and getting more intense with each ring
of the bell until it s built up to halt as soon as Betty says, Listen, I was headed to the movies... (Ives
1053). This would add a comedic value to the piece that I believe the audience would enjoy. David
Ives left future directors with a lot of wiggle room when he wrote Sure Thing. There are many
different directions a director could go in any aspect when taking on a piece like this. But, with any
film, the two most important thing to think about are camera angles and background music. When
those are done properly, everything else will fall into place. It s a sure

Twenty-Year Goal Research Paper
Twenty Year Goal
Background:
At the beginning of my high school journey (grade 6 onwards), I was very interested in becoming a
doctor. More specifically an orthopedic surgeon. Finding out that I could not go into my field due to
my hand tremors was difficult to take in at such a young age. Conducting more and more research as I
got older, showed me that coming into engineering would give me so many options to continue my
interest in biology, perhaps designing machines that could work more efficiently etc.
The last few years of high school made it obvious to me that engineering was the field I should go
into. Physics and math were my two favorite subjects, and I excelled in them. Aside from that, I

and lateral ideas that could solve the problem of tailpipe emissions and noise pollution made by
current snowmobiles. 2B and 3A will give me a lot of time to find out more about myself. None of
these terms are considered to be hard, and so, I can use my extra time throughout the terms, to explore
different fields of mechanical engineering that I had not previously thought of. This would help me
find out if biomechanics is the right choice for me. 3B is the toughest term in undergraduate
mechanical engineering at the University of Waterloo. This will mean that I am going to have to focus
on my academics a lot more than previous semesters. This may eliminate my chance of joining student
teams, and play as many sports. This term is also an important one in terms of co op because I would
be looking for my first of final two jobs. This can help me decide my future, as many people return to

Street Art And Art Vandalism
Street Art; an endless debate on whether people should consider the form of art vandalism or a part of
the Fine Arts movement. Street Art (also known as Graffiti ) first appeared in the beginning of human
society and prehistoric times with inscriptions, hieroglyphics and figure drawings found in walls,
caves, and monuments from Egyptian times as well as ancient Rome. According to Wikipedia, this
form of expression can be defined as writings, paintings, drawings, symbols or scribbling on a surface
such as walls, pavements, monuments, and other public or private properties. A new developing art
form with a lot of controversy, Graffiti has grown and become known for the illegality behind the
making of the art. Many see Street Art and tend to attribute vandalism to the art form due to all the
negativity that has gone around in regards to Graffiti. Individuals who are part of the authority system
or close minded have the tendency to be the ones who believe that any form of art displayed on public
walls can be considered nothing more than vandalism, while those who see the artworks as a form of
Art are the ones who can see behind the illegality and are usually individuals who are open minded or
keen to all types of Art. Should individuals retire the negative thoughts and criminality behind Street
Art and finally recognize the form as a legitimate art form while leaving Graffiti out ?

Ku Klux Klan In The 1920s
Imagine living in a society in which friends, relatives, and neighbors were killed and discriminated
against the color of their skin. Where did they go wrong? They were human. This was the life of
African Americans, Asians, Catholics, Jews, and immigrants during the revival of the Ku Klux Klan in
the 1920s. The Klan is classified as the largest white supremacy group in the United States during the
1920s. The Ku Klux Klan played a large role in racial identity and the history of the United States.
The first wave of the Ku Klux Klan organizers ended in the 1870s due to the passage of federal

The Construction Of The Roman Empire
Motorways
Thousands of years ago, the invention of the wheel gave the people the opportunity to complete their
work easier, moving around the areas faster. The construction of the Roman Empire roads allowed
people to reach the Roman dominion around Europe. Their first effort to create a road system was
between 43AD and 400AD, when they conquered Britain in order to have better access to main
financial centres. By creating road network, they tried to expand the potential market throughout the
empire. The whole network was 3,000 kilometres in length, covered most of England, Wales and
Southern Scotland [1]. After the departure of Romans from Britain and the fall of the Roman Empire,
little effort was made for the improvement of the network system in Europe. Only at the first decades
of the 18th century, due to the Industrial Revolution, there was an increased need for transport. At the
first decades of the twentieth century, the demand for faster movement between cities and the
increasing use of the automobile (from one third of million at the end of the First World War to over
three millions at the end of the World War II) were the main reasons for the construction of different
type motorways around the world. Typical examples are AVUS in Berlin, the oldest controlled access
highway in Europe, in Italy in 1924 between Milan and Varese. Britain created the first motorway in
1958 [2, 3].
The design of motorways is a complicated process, included specific parameters and

The Importance Of Being The Middle Child
Being the middle child, I have always thought of myself as the forgotten one. I m not the first born or
the baby of the family so I was, and still am, sort of looked over. My parents, although I am sure they
did not mean to, have proven me right about this many times. I was only four years old the first time I
was forgotten. My mother got all of my sisters into the car as we were leaving K mart, the biggest
store in town, when she forgot to check if I was there. It wasn t until she had already driven across
town and told my sister to ask me what I wanted from Taco Bell that she realized I was not there.
Being a whole four years old, I figured I could navigate the town pretty well by myself, so I began my
journey home alone. Unfortunately, the policeman did not see it the same way and I only made it to
the end of the parking lot. To my mother s advantage, we lived in a very small town, so she got in no
sort of trouble for this mistake.
I have had the chance to establish the most important relationships in my life, relationships that have
built me into the person I am today and am still growing to be. The most prominent people in my life
have always been my four sisters: Jasmine, Stirling, Lukila, and Isabella. Each of them have impacted
me in a completely unique way because they are all so different. Over the years, we have all been split
up many times. In other words, we ve been put in all sorts of places on the map and back again. For

The Federal Budget Deficit And National Debt
The Federal Budget Deficit and National Debt Basically, what the federal budget deficit is a shortage
of funds that are available for the government, where more money is being spent than what the
government receives. But, national is where the government borrows money through various ways.
The data for national debt and federal budget deficit from the year 2001 2013 is given in the chart
above. As we can see in the graph, the deficit is still remains in our economy even though there had
been a surplus in 1999 to 2001. But, we could see a lot if decreases such as from the year 2004 2007,
2009 2010 and also from 201 2014, but generally the deficit kept increasing yearly. The data provided

From the graph above, for instance, we could say that the budget deficit increased rapidly from 2007
2009 and we could say that the main is due to the Great Recession. The governments act trying to
counter attack this effect by improving fiscal policy for the betterment of business cycle lead to more
outlay than revenue, which resulted in the increase of the deficit promptly. So, therefore borrowing the
money to deal with deficit lead to increase in the national debt. Crowding out occurs when spending
by an individual or an organisation or to be more precise, private spending decreases and by
increasing the government spending. People sometimes use this as an alternative replacement and lets
the government to spend more. This is a very big problem causer because as the government decided
to spend more, it leads to higher budget deficit and debt and the overall spending may decline rapidly.
So, therefore if they let the government to spend more instead of them it results to the lesser
consumption of resources and spending on it. This can lead to decreasing the interest rates which
results in less investment by people and major drop in the business sector. In order to shift the
economy up from the times and effect of the great recession, government tend to raise the budgets at
times, government give more outlays in the form of social security and other fiscal policy techniques.
As a result, the government borrows capital to pay for this,

  • 2. Using Qualitative Feedback Of Grades Letters Over Words: Using Qualitative Feedback Instead of Grades Paige M. Bartlett University of Washington Teaching to Transgress April 9th, 2015 Oppressive Classrooms The year was 1987. My mom was a freshman in college. She felt virtually invisible in her Intro to Anthropology course of around 300 people. It wasn t her best class, but she was still surprised when she received a C on the paper she wrote. She hadn t thought she d done that badly. Confused, she scheduled an appointment to talk to her professor about it. It gives students a better understanding of their academic abilities and prevents students from being powerless in their own education. Grades have served to dehumanize students. Instead of being seen as full, complete beings they are reduce to A students, C students, and students failing the class. This judgment is not only made by their teachers but by society as a whole. Parents often set standards for what their kids grades need to be and punish them if they don t reach the mark. Friends and classmates compare the results of tests and report cards, making learning into a competition where some are better than others. Additionally, and perhaps the most disturbingly, for some students, grades become a reflection of their own worth. It doesn t help that in many ways our future is defined by our GPA. In a world where grades carry such weight, they can seem awfully fatalistic. A streak of bad ones can look like the end of a dream career. A friend of mine is facing just that reality. Her GPA is lower than she expects and lower than what it takes to get herself to grad school. With the added possibility of disappointing her parents or losing her scholarship, each assignment is an anxiety provoking threat, which could take her closer to failure. The way we ve set up schools, once your grades drop, it becomes increasingly hard to bring them back up. Many students faced with mounting ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 10. Juxtaposition Between Good And Evil In The Characters Of... The chronicles of Beowulf are episodic and carries many conundrums. Specifically, there lies an enormous contrast between good and evil. The protagonist, Beowulf, is chivalrous, mighty, and loyal. By the same token, Beowulf s extraordinary showing of patriotism enables him to be the ultimate keeper of justice. On the other hand, Grendel upholds evil that is derived from pure envious. It is important to note, that Grendel expresses a high level of combat experiences, just as Beowulf, however, the wicked man uses his unwavering incitement for iniquitous ways. All things considered, the juxtaposition between the great Beowulf, and the relentless Grendel, has many significant distinctions between both characters, including, the contrast between honorable and villainous. Although, both individuals possess superhuman characteristics, the differences in Beowulf s confidence, ethics, and bravery will out match Grendel s jealous, irrational, and forsaken soul; As a matter of fact, the worthy warrior will be crowned victor because God does not let the nefarious waste away the righteous. Above all, Beowulf s rather extraordinary confidence, encourages the demise of any opposition. The noble warrior boasts of his skill often in Beowulf. For these people, the process of becoming fully human resulted in evolution over thousands of years. By hearing this, many people think of the industrial revolution as being a change that led to a greater standard of living because machines allowed a greater number of goods to be produced that were impossible to produce before. There is no doubt that the economic growth that was seen during this period still fuels the present state of Britain today. Most historians talk about the industrial revolution as the booming period that led to many changes which greatly benefitted society, but many forget the opposite side of this all. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Workers were required to work long hours in the factories with little attention given to how they were performing after they became increasingly tired. Workers were given long hours of labour in which there was no break, they just had to repeat the same task over and over again (Fielden, 1836). This was because factories did not want to stop their production of goods which filled the pockets of the already wealthy factory owners. Similarly, workers who wanted to rebel against the customs feared that the legislation would not pass and they would have to leave their job and end up on the street (Fielden, 1836).Therefore, workers were not only helpless to work for endless hours; they were also suppressed and could not raise their voice against the wrongdoings that were being forced upon them. The working class was mistreated because they could not object to the system, since there were no rights for workers during the first phase of the industrial revolution as many people did not notice this ill treatment. These conditions had negative health consequences on individuals which made them weak and unable to provide efficient labour. The textile mills had a single small door from which workers were allowed to enter and exit, which created a heated atmosphere unfit for survival (Gaskell, 1833). As described, the atmosphere ... • 27. Marketing Research And Sustainable Management Practice In such a volatile and complex industry as tourism, marketing research, an integral part of marketing planning process, plays a crucial role in shaping a framework that guides Destination Management Organisations (DMOs) decisions, be it public or private. At operational level, market intelligence would help DMOs gain market insights, bridge the gap between tourism products and visitors and potentially explore new markets. Without market data, goal and objectives would be unrealistic thus resulting in inefficient marketing programmes. The report discusses attempts to promote San Juan Islands an archipelago part of the U.S. state of Washington, through their marketing plan. Drawing on the marketing process proposed by Middleton et al. (2009) and relevant literatures, what emerges from the plan is the lack of market data, lack of measurable objectives and lack of sustainable management practice. As a result, the report recommends a comprehensive marketing research and sustainable management practice. 2. INTRODUCTION San Juan Islands, locating in the Salish Sea and north east of Seattle, comprise of three main islands: San Juan Island, Orca Island and Lopez Island. Their particularly scenic nature and abundant wild life have transformed a traditionally rural county into America s recent favourite place for retirement. Still a natural resources based economy, San Juan Islands landscapes have been reinvented and commodified for tourism. As such, tourism plays a central ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 28. Perry Glanzer s Essay On Religion In Public Schools Perry Glanzer also touches on the idea that religions should be equally represented in education in his article Religion in Public Schools. He gives examples of various cases throughout the United States in which students were singled out by educators after their attempt in religious expression in order to maintain censorship, which could be prevented by education and the equal sharing of knowledge of various religions to make students more comfortable with various personal religious expressions. Fortunately, Glanzer says, the basic principle of fairness toward religious and nonreligious perspectives is beginning to be reinforced through legislation and Supreme Court jurisprudence. It is currently embodied in the Equal Access Act, which ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Since there are various religions in the United States, none of which are limited to a certain area, students are bound to come across someone who practices a different faith in their lifetimes. If public schools were to include theology, children would be more open minded, aware, and tolerant of these religions, thus preventing discrimination, prejudice, and even violence and acts of targeted terrorism in the future because of these differing beliefs. Religious education would benefit children of all ages, religions and cultural backgrounds, as it would provide them with a better understanding of one another, and a sense of companionship and acceptance from their ... • 29. David Ives Sure Thing Analysis The play Sure Thing by David Ives is about two people who meet at a small café. They start talking to each other and each time someone says something wrong, or the conversation goes south, a bell rings and they start over. In the end, they end up liking each other a lot and have a longer stretch of uninterrupted dialogue. This play is a challenging piece to work with as a director since there isn t much to it. However, if one were to look at it from a film production perspective, more could be done. To enhance this piece, working with camera angles and background music will be the best way to go. Since this piece is a lot of dialogue and very little movement, several different camera angles will be needed to make it interesting. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Of course, music doesn t need to be under the whole thing. But they are in a café and cafés come with noise, whether that be the machines, radio, or the other customers. Plus it is nighttime and people are coming in and out of the café, so there is bound to be sound from the traffic and nightlife filtering in. Music and background noise adds a really powerful aspect to any piece and sometimes the lack of music makes a scene even more dramatic. However, building up music for intense scenes can pull the audience in. For example, when Betty and Bill are really going at it and having to start over several times (Ives 1053), I am picturing the music picking up speed and getting more intense with each ring of the bell until it s built up to halt as soon as Betty says, Listen, I was headed to the movies... (Ives 1053). This would add a comedic value to the piece that I believe the audience would enjoy. David Ives left future directors with a lot of wiggle room when he wrote Sure Thing. There are many different directions a director could go in any aspect when taking on a piece like this. But, with any film, the two most important thing to think about are camera angles and background music. When those are done properly, everything else will fall into place. It s a sure ... • 30. Twenty-Year Goal Research Paper Twenty Year Goal Background: At the beginning of my high school journey (grade 6 onwards), I was very interested in becoming a doctor. More specifically an orthopedic surgeon. Finding out that I could not go into my field due to my hand tremors was difficult to take in at such a young age. Conducting more and more research as I got older, showed me that coming into engineering would give me so many options to continue my interest in biology, perhaps designing machines that could work more efficiently etc. The last few years of high school made it obvious to me that engineering was the field I should go into. Physics and math were my two favorite subjects, and I excelled in them. Aside from that, I learned many leadership and time management ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... None of these terms are considered to be hard, and so, I can use my extra time throughout the terms, to explore different fields of mechanical engineering that I had not previously thought of. This would help me find out if biomechanics is the right choice for me. 3B is the toughest term in undergraduate mechanical engineering at the University of Waterloo. This will mean that I am going to have to focus on my academics a lot more than previous semesters. This may eliminate my chance of joining student teams, and play as many sports. Street Art (also known as Graffiti ) first appeared in the beginning of human society and prehistoric times with inscriptions, hieroglyphics and figure drawings found in walls, caves, and monuments from Egyptian times as well as ancient Rome. According to Wikipedia, this form of expression can be defined as writings, paintings, drawings, symbols or scribbling on a surface such as walls, pavements, monuments, and other public or private properties. A new developing art form with a lot of controversy, Graffiti has grown and become known for the illegality behind the making of the art. Many see Street Art and tend to attribute vandalism to the art form due to all the negativity that has gone around in regards to Graffiti. Individuals who are part of the authority system or close minded have the tendency to be the ones who believe that any form of art displayed on public walls can be considered nothing more than vandalism, while those who see the artworks as a form of Art are the ones who can see behind the illegality and are usually individuals who are open minded or keen to all types of Art. Should individuals retire the negative thoughts and criminality behind Street Art and finally recognize the form as a legitimate art form while leaving Graffiti out ? • 34. The Construction Of The Roman Empire Motorways Thousands of years ago, the invention of the wheel gave the people the opportunity to complete their work easier, moving around the areas faster. The construction of the Roman Empire roads allowed people to reach the Roman dominion around Europe. Their first effort to create a road system was between 43AD and 400AD, when they conquered Britain in order to have better access to main financial centres. By creating road network, they tried to expand the potential market throughout the empire. The whole network was 3,000 kilometres in length, covered most of England, Wales and Southern Scotland [1]. After the departure of Romans from Britain and the fall of the Roman Empire, little effort was made for the improvement of the network system in Europe. Only at the first decades of the 18th century, due to the Industrial Revolution, there was an increased need for transport. At the first decades of the twentieth century, the demand for faster movement between cities and the increasing use of the automobile (from one third of million at the end of the First World War to over three millions at the end of the World War II) were the main reasons for the construction of different type motorways around the world. Typical examples are AVUS in Berlin, the oldest controlled access highway in Europe, in Italy in 1924 between Milan and Varese. Britain created the first motorway in 1958 [2, 3]. I m not the first born or the baby of the family so I was, and still am, sort of looked over. My parents, although I am sure they did not mean to, have proven me right about this many times. I was only four years old the first time I was forgotten. My mother got all of my sisters into the car as we were leaving K mart, the biggest store in town, when she forgot to check if I was there. It wasn t until she had already driven across town and told my sister to ask me what I wanted from Taco Bell that she realized I was not there. Being a whole four years old, I figured I could navigate the town pretty well by myself, so I began my journey home alone. Unfortunately, the policeman did not see it the same way and I only made it to the end of the parking lot. To my mother s advantage, we lived in a very small town, so she got in no sort of trouble for this mistake. From the graph above, for instance, we could say that the budget deficit increased rapidly from 2007 2009 and we could say that the main is due to the Great Recession. The governments act trying to counter attack this effect by improving fiscal policy for the betterment of business cycle lead to more outlay than revenue, which resulted in the increase of the deficit promptly. So, therefore borrowing the money to deal with deficit lead to increase in the national debt. Crowding out occurs when spending by an individual or an organisation or to be more precise, private spending decreases and by increasing the government spending. People sometimes use this as an alternative replacement and lets the government to spend more. This is a very big problem causer because as the government decided to spend more, it leads to higher budget deficit and debt and the overall spending may decline rapidly. So, therefore if they let the government to spend more instead of them it results to the lesser consumption of resources and spending on it. This can lead to decreasing the interest rates which results in less investment by people and major drop in the business sector.
