Ups Competitive Advantage
UPS S Competitive Advantage Instructor Cretson Dalmadge MIS 3360 W1 February 3, 2010 In order
for an organization to be more competitive, it s imperative for them to stay abreast of the latest
technology. The early 1990 s marked the start of another era of change at UPS (United Parcel Service
of America inc, 1994). Technological Change was necessary to accommodate the increased volume of
packages. This paper will explore the challenges faced by the business along with the network
functionalities and the benefits that the changes in technology contributed. Organizations are
constantly striving to gain a competitive advantage. UPS faced adversity during the transition from
manual operations to electronic transmissions. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
UPS s transformation to the future is successful because of its competence to give customers quality
service while continuing to service as many clients that want to be serviced. This device has proven to
be a success for UPS because customers are able to get real time information on delivery status and
great reliability as a result of the back up system. In 1998, UPS changed its purpose in the company
charter to, We enable global commerce (mobileinfo, 1999). Therefore, UPS technology upgrade was a
benefit for the company to give it a competitive edge. Through the upgrade UPS was able to
accommodate the volume of customers and their demand for delivered packages. UPS accessed the
Industry, recognized the need for change, and responded with a device that met their technological
needs. Although UPS might have faced some challenges with the implementation of the device;
however, they prevailed and is still one of Americas top choice delivery company. If UPS hadn t taken
the initiative to computerize their technology, UPS would not be as successful as it is today. The
implementation of the DIAD board and the PAS system has helped UPS to function efficiently and to
stay in the mainstream of the technological race. Even though there were challenges to implement the
devices that revolutionize the package

Foster Care As A Temporary Solution Essay
Foster care is one of the major issues still faced in this world today. According to Crosson Tower
(2013), in the early 1800s, boarding homes were instituted with the idea of rescuing good children
from bad parents. She noted that the idea of paying for foster homes to house children was renounced
because agencies advocating foster care argued that it would lead to foster parents taking children for
money rather than out of altruism. However, she also explained that the practice of paying for foster
care emerged, and the government became involved regulating and administering the foster care
system in the twentieth century. In addition, her research indicated foster care became progressively
more common as the form of caring where the parents were unable to care for their children. Although
foster care is designed to be a temporary solution, the nature of foster care today shows the complete
opposite (Crosson Tower, 2013). The organization that will be discussed in this paper is going to
expand on the issue of foster care and their advocacy efforts to combat the issue.

My Experience Of My Life In A Sorority
Never in a million years would I have thought that I would be in a sorority. I have always had this
image of what a sorority girl was in my head. They were the pretty, stuck up, and rude girls. I didn t
want to be involved with drama and hold girl s hands in pictures. I just wasn t that girl. My best friend
joined a sorority and she changed but not for the better. She became one of those girls who only
thought about herself and her appearance. I wanted to focus on school and making friends, not
partying every weekend and caring about my outfit for that night.
As I started to tell people where I was going to college almost everyone asked, Are you going to rush?
. I explained to them that I didn t think I would fir in or see any positive outcomes out of it other than
getting into parties. One day, a girl that attended Washington State University, asked the same question
that everyone else had been asking. When I told her no and my reasoning she was shocked that I
thought of a sorority in that way. You have been watching way too many movies girl . She started to
talk about her experience being in a sorority. One of the main things that stuck out to me was the girls
who really weren t stuck up or full of themselves. Of course, would always be a few but for the most
part she said they were genuine people that cared about each other. We talked about how it isn t all
about partying and how a lot of the houses are strict about grades. Grade checks are prominent

The Assassination Of Jfk Assassination Theory
The research topic I have chosen for English 12 research essay is the JFK assassination theory. I
would like to research this because I have seen documents and videos online and on television about
the conspiracy but I have not done full research into it to see the facts. With the presidents of the
United States they are able to make or break the country with their decisions, with that JFK was
assassinated due to that and other reasons. I will be going into this research thinking that there is a
conspiracy behind the assassination of JFK that it wasn t hoax and I might witness data with biased
eyes. Even though I believe that I want to see what the other side of the spectrum believes and what
data they will show to convince people ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Curious Incident Of The Dog In Night-Time
Christopher says, ... and that made me feel better because everything had an order and a plan (Haddon
181). The Curious Incident of the Dog in Night Time is in the point of view of a teenage boy who
suffers from a disorder named Christopher. The story through Christopher s eyes is not a typical point
of view. Haddon makes use of stream of consciousness when Christopher s storytelling strays from his
original point into a point that he believes is of equal importance. The first person perspective is a tool
to demonstrate the order and planning that goes on in Christopher s mind. The style displayed

One goal is to expose children to reading, and the other goal is to help the children visualize what is
trying to be expressed in the book through the illustrations or pictures. Analogously, The Curious
Incident of the Dog in Night Time uses picture to help the reader visualize important aspects of the
book. For many adults, they think that pictures in a book are silly, but in this case it adds to the
disorder of this novel. Christopher explains, ... Mrs. Peters cuts round the picture with a Stanley knife
and then you put ink on the lino and press it onto the paper, which is why all the cars looked the same,
because I did one car and pressed it onto the paper 9 times (Haddon 27). Does the reader really need to
know the specific details of Christopher s card to his mother? Probably not, but it helps characterize
Christopher and show how his brain works. Many people may say that the picture takes away from the
order of the book, but it adds detail to the book instead. Another time Christopher uses a diagram is
when he is in the train station. Christopher describes his surroundings, But the train station in Swindon
wasn t like that. It was a tunnel and some stairs, and a shop and café and a waiting room like this
(Haddon 144). Immediately following this description was a map of the train station. Christopher s
autism is what causes him to visualize the map in his head. Lots of people would think it is imbecilic
to create a map like that in their heads. On the contrary, it is an advantage to have a map of your
surroundings because it may help in a time of terror. People who are unable to create a map in their
head are at a disadvantage, so they have the real disorder. Pictures and diagrams are a good; they keep
order in a world where life is in constant

Eugene Shepard Characterization
During 1893, in Rhineland, Wisconsin a mythical beast had emerged from the wilderness. Eugene
Shepard, who was a local resident and elder in Rhineland, was out on his weekly hike when he
stumbled across an odd creature. This creature was green, about a foot tall, seven feet long, and
weighed about 200 hundred pounds. It had razor sharp teeth like a saber tooth tiger, white long claws,
spikes of all sizes running all down its spine, and red glowing eyes that one could not help but stare
into. Not sure what to do, Shepard hurried back to town to tell everyone his discovery. Town folk and
lumberjacks gathered weapons, guns, and dogs to search for this newly discovered Hodag. He led his
group to his normal hiking trail, but instead of finding the

Aint No Mountain High Enough And Grenade Comparison
I will jump in front of a train for you! Phrases like this will melt a woman s heart. Musicians normally
express their feelings through lyrics, in various genres of music. One usually turns to another person
for emotional support, but others will direct themselves towards music. In the same way that music
can heal a soul, it is also capable of demonstrating others to show affection for whom they love. One
lesson taught throughout love songs is, love is unconditional affection with no limits or conditions.
Two songs that come to mind are Ain t No Mountain High Enough by Marvin Gaye, and Grenade by
Bruno Mars. Both of these songs talk about love, and passion, however one talks about a desire for
somebody, while the other expresses heartbreak.
Bruno Mars and Marvin Gaye express their love in grand ways. In similarity, they both have a
compassionate and sentimental vibe that speaks to a person emotionally. They both use big gestures to
show the one they love how they feel. Bruno Mars sings I would jump in front of a train for ya, you
know I would do anything for ya , therefore; he is saying he would die for his love. While Marvin ...

Later, when his father died, Alexander the Second, on March 13, 1881. I picked this source because it
shows how the idea of an authoritarian man in the story could have come from this man, Alexander

Fix your hair. They say that our hair is our crowning glory. People have always considered the short,
clean cut as the ideal hairstyle for men. But even if you have long hair, you can still keep your hair
clean and neat. Always comb your hair when you leave the house. Regardless of whether you re just

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Glulam
Advantages of Glued Laminate Timber Glue Laminated Timber, cracking takes a significantly lesser
amount than in solid wood. Thus, laminated beams are ideal for noticeable roof structures in
residential or other purposes, in which the inevitable cracking of solid wood is unwanted. It is also
locally accessible environmentally sustainable material. The first and most obvious benefit of Glulam
is that its main factor, timber, grows out of the ground and does not need to be mined and exposed to
the high energy demand manufacturing procedures that steel and cement require It has a flexibility of

and with that increasing number our charities and nonprofit organizations need help. A nonprofit
organization is an organization with the purpose of which is something other than making a profit. A
charity is voluntarily giving such like money to the ones in need. With a wide variety of choices to
pick from to help the unfortunate they also need help in choosing who to donate too. In an article

the needy than giving cash to help them get by. There are many families that wouldn t mind receiving
the food assistance, there are many who need the financial help. As these authors point out helping the

The Effects Of Forced Migration On The United Nations
In Recent times, migration has become common, and the reason for migration is often access to better
education and the cleaner environment. However, some migration is not by choice. Forced migration
occurs in a less stable region due to the war or environment problem. The term forced migration refers
to those who are compelled to leave their own town or country. This essay will explain the impacts of
forced migration, particularly refugees. The definition of refugee, which is given by the united nations
(as cited in Forced Migration,2011), is someone who has been forced to leave their country in order to
escape war, conflict, or natural disaster. Focus on this definition, it means the war and the natural
disaster are problems which can make refugees. It will focus on adult mental health, human rights and
child issues.
Initially, one of the issues faced by refugees is mental health. There is a report written by Fazel, Reed,
Brick and Stein, which is published online (2011). They mentioned that the refugee who is separated
from the families are tolerated the damage both from the heart and physical part. Focusing on this
aspect, there are some graphs given in the report, which are about the basic information of refugee and

Examples Of Materialism In A Perfect Day For Bananafish
John Steinbeck suggests that to a monster the norm must seem monstrous, since everyone is normal to
himself . Just as some people are born missing limbs or with another physical birth defect, such as a
birthmark, others could be born missing a trait vital to communicate with the world around them or
lose a trait throughout the course of their life. Although this missing trait is not visible to others in
society, does not mean it is any less serious. For instance, Seymour has a severe case of PTSD after
returning from war that causes his actions to seem abnormal to those around him, even his family.
Furthermore, Seymour finds that the actions of those around him, the materialistically obsessed, are
difficult for him to cope with. In J.D. Salinger s A Perfect Day for Bananafish , Salinger depicts how
life is for the monsters like Seymour in such a materialistic society. Seymour, a seemingly normal man
to the naked eye, is secluded from the world around him. Searching for an escape from such an
uninviting society, Seymour takes some big grasps for help before committing to his eventual demise.
Salinger begins his depiction of Seymour through disdain before he brings the audience to his heart
breaking conclusion. Salinger indicates that the emotionally fragile cannot survive in a materialistic
and superficial society because society is not willing to accept those who are different. Salinger begins
his short story by depicting a materialistic society; in turn, he creates

Colin Singleton Character Analysis
Author s purpose John Green s main purpose in writing this novel was to say it s okay to not know
who you are. Colin Singleton was seventeen and panicking because he doesn t know who he is. He
just got dumped his nineteenth Katherine and has fallen into a depression, Colin Singleton is nothing
but a brain without a Katherine by his side. Colin finds out that just because he s a former child
prodigy, that doesn t mean he s going to be a genius in his adult years to come. He has trouble
accepting that because he wants to be remembered as someone important.
Major Characters To begin, at the start of the novel Colin Singleton has dated nineteen girls named
Katherine, because girls named Katherine were his type . He has also been dumped by all of these
Katherine s, except number three. Then, at the end of the novel he s dating a girl named Lindsey , not
Katherine. Which is probably his eureka moment that he s been looking for ever since he was a little
boy. That s probably the biggest character change in this book.
Major Theme The overall theme of the book is finding yourself and who you are. There are several
small themes that are seen throughout the book, one of those is love and another is being remembered.
Colin makes it a priority to have a Katherine because without one, he doesn t know how to function
correctly. Without a Katherine he doesn t even know who he is. He starts having trouble finding
himself after he gets dumped by Katherine number nineteen.

Ishiguro Allusion
An analysis on how Ishiguro alludes to underlying circumstances at Hailsham in Never Let Me Go
For a significant part of the novel Never Let Me Go by Kazuo Ishiguro, the real function of Hailsham
remains a mystery. However, Ishiguro does leave clues into solving this mystery. He does this by
providing both an immediate and gradual realization that something is not quite right. This realization
is conveyed through the use of choice words and unusual environments. Ishiguro provides few details,
and the ones he does provide lack any real meaning. This promotes reading in between the lines and
forming personal conclusions. But with a keen eye, it is possible analyze specific details left by
Ishiguro that help allude to Hailsham s real purpose. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
An impeccable example of how reading in between the lines is key appears when Kathy tells us about
how one of her donors wanted to hear about Hailsham. In this section, Kathy makes the realization
that her donor did not necessarily want to just hear about Hailsham, but rather he wanted to remember
Hailsham. Kathy felt that her donor wanted to feel as if he had lived through Hailsham, himself. This
section makes the reader ask themselves why would Kathy s donor want to remember Hailsham. By
reading in between the lines of this section we can gather that Hailsham was probably better than
wherever Kathy s donor was to prior of being in her care. Maybe Kathy s donor had a poor and
unfulfilling life. Maybe he feels that because Kathy is from Hailsham, she would have had a good life.
From reading in between the lines we can gather that Kathy s donor had an awful life and wanted to
feel as if he had been a part of Hailsham. This connection is important because it helps the reader
determine that Hailsham was special without being told that directly. Additionally, this section further

Essay On The Role Of Women In Heart Of Darkness
In the Heart of Darkness you see a lot about Africa in the 1900s through an imperialistic view
considering that s where Conrad is from. There are also a lot of behind the scenes importance nobody
really picks up on. Women in the Heart of Darkness played more of a role in the book than people
think, and it also portrays the effects on Africa and all of Europe, slowly. In the 1900s, women in
advanced areas of the worlds have always been fighting for equal rights. When you take a look at that
history, women are either protagonists or in most cases they are just being submissive to their husband
or whomever it may be. Heart of Darkness mainly focuses on Men because back then despite Queen

She seemed uncanny and fateful. This represents the Moirae, the personifications of fate. The Fates
have the foresight and can see into every man s fate, so they are pretty much a big deal if you believe
in that sort of stuff. Maybe this also doesn t catch your eye whiles you read, Marlow may have had a
mentally lasting impact from it based from his initial reaction. Another woman you most definitely
could not ignore was Kurtz s African Mistress. She caught the eye of Marlow based off of the vivid
description given. He mentions that She walked with measured steps, draped in striped and fringed
clothes, treading the earth proudly, carrying her head high, her hair was in the shape of a helmet, she
had brass leggings to the knee, brass wire gauntlets, etc, etc, you get the point. This woman isn t just
Kurtz s mistress, she carries the personification of Africa herself, dark and mysterious and from
Marlow s description of her being gorgeous, embodying all the beauty, mystery and danger within
Africa. She also carries some power with her or influence over the natives around the station, and
Kurtz himself. This was probably one of the only women who showed clear influence whiles the other
women mentioned in this article were more background like the 1900s from a man s perspective

Teacher and National Development
LITERATURE REVIEW
It is a known fact today that, there is fall, degradation, lost of value in the nation. There is increase in
level of immorality, crime, self centeredness e.t.c which slows down the pace of national development.
Many people attributed this to our system of education as people say No nation can grow above the
level of her education . This is to bring to light the significant of the correlation between the three key
concepts Education Teacher and National Development .
EDUCATION
Education in its broadest, general sense is the means through which the aims and habits of a group of

The division between primary and secondary education is somewhat arbitrary, but it generally occurs
at about eleven or twelve years of age. Some education systems have separate middle schools, with
the transition to the final stage of secondary education taking place at around the age of fourteen.
Schools that provide primary education, are mostly referred to as primary schools. Primary schools in
these countries are often subdivided into infant schools and junior school.
Secondary school
In most contemporary educational systems of the world, secondary education comprises the formal
education that occurs during adolescence. It is characterized by transition from the typically
compulsory, comprehensive primary education for minors, to the optional, selective tertiary, post
secondary , or higher education (e.g. university, vocational school) for adults. Depending on the
system, schools for this period, or a part of it, may be called secondary or high schools, gymnasiums,
lyceums, middle schools, colleges, or vocational schools. The exact meaning of any of these terms
varies from one system to another. The exact boundary between primary and secondary education also
varies from country to country and even within them, but is generally around the seventh to the tenth
year of schooling. Secondary education

Group Process And Dynamics Analysis
During this past week in class, I was able to learn more about Group Process and Dynamics. In this
reflection, I will talk about the Building a House activity and what I learned about diversity issues
from this exercise. I will also give details on my observations linking them to behaviors listed in our
class Observation Grid paper. On Monday, we partook in the group activity Building a House . Our
instructions were to as a group build a house made out of Legos. Before the activity we were each
given a piece of paper with individual assignments written on them. We were told that we could not
share details about our assignments with the other group members. We were split into two groups of
three, Nataliya and Ms. Nadia we selected to be observers during this exercise and were place on
opposite sides of the room. In my group it was Jorge, Farrah and myself and in the other group it was

Since we couldn t communicate verbally I noticed that most of the communication during the exercise
consisted of visual cues such as body language. Gestures like hand signals, body signals and eye
movement were utilized by all group members. I noticed nearly every group member nod and shake
their heads many times to indicate agreements and disagreements. This reminded me of the
importance of being able to identify nonverbal communication through body language. People say a
lot by the body language and posture (are they leaning in, slouched over and tired, agitated with their
arms crossed, etc.); their behavior movements (nervous twitched, tapping of the foot, wringing of their
hands, etc.); and the direction of their gaze and attention. (Sage,

Concordion Essay
Concordion tests are written in HTML and then instrumented with special attributes that Concordion
interprets to execute the test. Rather than forcing product owners to specify requirements in a specially
structured language, Concordion lets you write them in normal language using paragraphs, tables and
proper punctuation [7]. This makes the specifications much more natural to read and write, and helps
everyone to understand and agree about what a feature is supposed to do. The HTML files are
typically stored with the source code, which has the benefit that they can be under the same version
control system as the rest of the code. Concordion enriches agile processes and has been successfully
applied in industrial context. B. Cucumber It is a software tool that computer programmers use for

Cyrus the Great was the founder of the Persian Empire and had a highly successful reign that can be
greatly credited an effective leadership, because of which he was able to make significant positive
steps for the empire and influence future civilisations. This can be seen in various aspects of his
leadership including his strategic thinking, which enabled him to establish and expand the empire, his
appeasing of the peoples, which assisted in preventing revolts, and the large impact he has had and

Cyrus ensured this by correcting mistakes of past leaders and respecting the existing religions, values
and cultures of the places he conquered and this reduced the chance of revolt enabling him to better
establish the empire and ensure his leadership was effective. In a verse account of the conquest of
Babylon it is said that Nabonidus, the leader before Cyrus, was disrespectful and prevented the
celebration of religious festivals and the people of Babylon were hostile towards him. When Cyrus
came into power he declared peace, appeased the gods once more and acted righteously, fixing all the
wrongs on Nabonidus and returning a joyful heart to the people. During his rule he also returned
displaced Jews to their land and rebuilt their temples, once again righting the wrongs of a past leader.
By doing these things Cyrus was able to demonstrate his effective leadership by preventing revolts of
which he has none recorded compared to the at least five of Darius, which enabled him to focus more
on expansion. The lasting impacts of Cyrus the Great within and beyond the empire exemplify his
effective style of leadership. It is said that one of the most important things for the prosperity of an
empire is its governing system and the system created by Cyrus was used and refined

Reflection Of The Movie Mivtza Savta
Mivtza Savta
The movie Mivtza Savta is based on a true story and follows the story of three brothers: Alon
(Krembo), Benni, and Idan. The brothers grew up in Kibbutz Asisim in the Negev, but have since left
the Kibbutz. Alon has returned to live in the Kibbutz because of his stationing in the Israeli Army.
They all live their lives and work in their jobs until their grandmother Haya dies. This is also the
moment where the most touted line of the movie is said: savta Haya meta . It is then that Dvora, the
Kibbutz secretary informed the brothers that the Kibbutz will not take care of the arrangements for the
funeral and it is up to the brother to bury their grandmother. This is the subject the movie revolves
around: how to bury savta Haya in a day so that Elon can execute his newly approved military plan
makat shemesh that he has been working on for so long. Before I can summarize the rest of the movie,
it is important to know the characters. Alon is the oldest brother. He is in a classified position in the
Israeli Army. Since he left the Kibbutz when he grew up, he lives there as an external resident (toshav
huts). He receives the name Krembo, an Israeli snack only available in the winter, by stealing all the
Krembos from the Kibbutz Kitchen. In order to avoid punishment, even though everyone knew it was
him, he ate 500 Krembos in half an hour. Krembo is the brains behind the operation of burring
grandmother Haya. He conducts the mission as a military operation,

Reflection Paper On Social Work
As a white, middle class, able bodied woman living in the United States, I recognize my privilege and
wish to use it to the advantage of helping those who are marginalized and oppressed within our
society. While being a woman helps me to understand the struggles of other women, growing up white
middle class also brings forth the challenge of being able to empathize with certain clientele. For
example, I have never experienced marginalization, exploitation, or oppression the way a young Black
woman has. When applying for a job, I have never been concerned with being offered or denied the
position because of the color of my skin. I have never been in fear for my life if I am pulled over by a
police officer. Privilege as a white person means I don t necessarily need to worry about job
discrimination, policy brutality, or judgement because of my skin color. Even the ignorance of not
recognizing that you have privilege is oppressive.
The socialization I experienced as a child taught many values that could impede my effectiveness in
social work if not carefully dismantled and reassessed. I was conditioned in a homophobic Christian,
middle class family. My family s life revolved around the church and all its roles, rules, and
regulations. Homosexuality, in our household, was considered morally wrong and sinful. Christian
hegemony influences our social, political, institutional and cultural society in the United States, which
contributes to the marginalization of oppressed groups. As someone who identifies as bisexual, I hope
to support the LGBT community by being an ally, advocating for equity and equality, as well as being
a political activist for changing policies towards inclusivity for all citizens. Working with clients that
have a strong religious background that is against homosexuality might cause interference with my
ability to work with them, since I identify with the LGBT community. I realize that this is an area
upon which I must work through so that I am not holding my own judgements against clients for their
religion.
Ingrained from a young age were the values of hard work pays off. There is a common misconception
in the middle class mindset that those that do not work hard or are lazy are the ones

Criticism Of The Dead By Margot Norris
Margot Norris criticism is about the silencing of women, I used this one because it helps with that
point of view I want to back up in my own essay as well. Norris argues that the silencing of women in
The Dead proves to make the feminist criticism stronger. She describes in depth the characters that are
silenced and the ways that they are silenced and her view of on the feminist end of things. She
supports that these women are silenced and makes a strong argument about it. But, overall, she says
we read the novel as we choose to. Some readers may see it as different and some may not. I used two
other dissertations as sources because I wanted to get someone from the educational point of view, a
criticism of someone that is similar to mine and talking about this subject as well. I spared them
equally and only used parts of them so far in this particular prospectus, but I chose Badcock s essay
because she explains how women were treated in Joyce s lifetime. How the background of what I m
trying to convey is important. How Joyce saw women and how that was bled into Gabriel s character.
Beckham has the view of masculinity and how Gabriel s ego is constantly being deflated. The
argument that can be made is, he attempts to use these female characters to boost that ego, yet it doesn
t work that way. The criticism is essentially for Gabriel s ever changing masculinity, but it can be used
as an opposing or for point of view, as well. I want to focus on the masculinity factor and

My First Family Reunion
When anyone thinks of a perfect family photo, they imagine a family with fancy clothing, a bright
sunny day, green grass and faces that have been enhanced. When my family takes photos they are not
quite that picture perfect family that s advertise but a family that goes deeper than perfection. I come
from a fairly large family with five sisters, one brother and that includes my parents four
grandchildren and one son in law. My sisters are in the middle row off to the left side, my brothers
hand is wrapped around my mother. My little sister is the one with the long black braids. I am on the
right side holding my son of five months and my husband Rudy right next to me. In the front row is
my dad with his three grandchildren.
This photo holds a special place in my heart because it was our very first family reunion. Looking
back on this day brings a tear to my eye because time is a big factor and I can tell time has gone by
since that day. I stare at this photo and can t help but feel blessed. We are all alive and in good health.
Knowing that this was the last photo we took as a family makes it so much more meaningful to me.
That day was filled with excitement and laughter. I remember this day like it was yesterday. The date

CU1565 Promote Creativity and Creative
Learning in Young Children
1.1 Analyse the differences between creative learning and creativity.
Creative learning is about how children are actively involved in their own learning, and their ability to
make choices and decisions. This can be achieved through providing a creative environment, allowing
exploration through play and praising creative efforts.
Creativity is about risk taking and making connections, allowing children to explore and express
themselves through a variety of media or materials including, dance, music, making things, drawing,
painting and make believe and to make new things emerge as a result. Being creative is strongly
linked to play and can emerge through a

2.1 Demonstrate in own practice how to promote creativity and creative learning.
For example, during a cooking activity children are learning many skills through the creative process.
They may feel happy and excited about creating their own food. They are sociable by working with
adults to assist them and cooking for their friends or family members. By following instructions either
written or verbal and measuring quantities they are being allowed to develop intellectually. Knowing
when to ask for help and starting a dialogue around what they are doing and using can help develop
communication skills especially listening and taking direction. Finally all the mixing, chopping,
kneading and picking up small cut up pieces are physically developing the fine motor skills, hand eye
co ordination and building hand and arm muscles.
2.2 Explain why young children require extended and unhurried periods of time to develop their
creativity.
An unhurried period of creativity gives children time to explore and experiment with materials and use
them in their own way. It also allows children to do their best work by moving from popular to more
original ideas and being able to come back to it at a later date to finish.
3.1 Explain the feature of an environment that supports creativity and creative learning.
A creative environment needs to allow children easy access to different materials and be able to move
these from one place to another. It is not just about

The Battle Of War And War
There are many different components to war, far beyond the soldiers and battlefields. Soldiers at war
may make the ultimate sacrifice in the sequence of battle, but societies at war deal with the
compromise. War requires more non renewable resources than any other industry in the world, the
most abundant of those resources being humans. Since July 4, 1776 the US has been in some sort of
conflict for 222 of the 239 years since that day. Humans require more basic necessities than any other
living organism on the planet. The resources necessary to support a war are endless and can have
massive affects on industry, geopolitical structure, populations, educational institutions, and much,
much more. With The US having actively participated in war almost the entirety of its existence, war
has been impacting everyone and everything in existence be it living or not. Humans alone, without
the resources necessary to participate in war, require at least sustenance and shelter just to sustain life.
Beyond that there are human needs such as clothing and skills to sustain life within a society. For each
of these individuals it is mandatory to obtain one outfit of clothing, one meal a day that is sufficient
enough to avoid poor nutrition, one place to sleep. For the women and women of our armed forces
these needs are met and merely more. At three meals a day, a place to sleep usually four or more to
one room, and three daily outfits including footwear, we can see the military is rather

Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi, a historic leader of Indian nationalism, was one of the greatest
national leaders of the twentieth century. Rosenberg (2012) stated Gandhi was born in Porbandar,
India, on October 2, 1869 (Biography of Mahatma Gandhi). His family came from the traditional caste
of grocers and moneylenders (the name Gandhi means grocer ). His father was the dewan (chief

The use of only non violent methods in the pursuit of justice is not as simple as it sounds. Gandhi s
basic challenge, first of all was to himself, to exercise strong self discipline. He did it in many ways.
He dressed very simply, and shaved his head. He did not attend any concerts or the theatre. Each week
for one whole day he would refrain from speaking. He also did physical work a couple of hours every
day. His more serious challenges began when he was set to work in South Africa, where he was
discriminated against for being an Indian immigrant. For example, Gandhi was on a trip where he was
seated in the first class compartment, as he had purchased a first class ticket. According to Bisht
(2010): A White person who entered the compartment was upset that Gandhi was in first class and
immediately summoned the White railway officials. They ordered Gandhi to remove himself and go to
the van compartment, since coolies (a racist term for Indians) and non whites were not permitted in
first class compartments. Gandhi protested and produced his ticket, but was warned that he would be
forcibly removed if he did not make a gracious exit. As Gandhi refused to comply with the order, a
White police officer pushed him out of the train, and his luggage was tossed out onto the platform.
During his train journey he had to endure beatings and mistreatment from whites for his refusal to
comply with their unfair orders (Mahatma Gandhi s Freedom Struggle and the Railways). He
overcame racism by not letting it break him or his drive, but more obstacles were to appear in his

Prior to NCLB, public schools were rarely closed for performing poorly on standardized tests. School

Ownership Essay
Your neighbors may own multiple vehicles. You may own an Iphone 6. Your school mate may own
almost every video game ever made. What do you and these people have in common? You all own
objects. But what does it mean to own something? Ownership can mean far more than having
possessions with your name on them. Ownership relates to your sense of self and personal identity.
Philosophers like Aristotle and Plato believed that owning tangible items relates to how one sees
himself. Being human, we brag about who owns what and how much of that what they own. Some
people believe that the more extravagant items they own, the more he,or she, is worth . But what does

When you own something you worked really hard for, it can teach you to value things more. Working
hard for an item you really want allows you to set targets and strive for the object you desire. For
example, a teenager can go out and purchase a vehicle after saving up for many years. It teaches you
that hard work and determination pays off. It s something that you can be proud of and call yours.
Jean Paul Sartre, a French philosopher, believed that owning something didn t have to come down to
owning physical items. What does owning a very expensive item really mean to you? Having a talent
or skill is unique, and unlike tangible items, talents can t be bought and can t be taken away from you.
Having a special gift makes you the person you are and what you are known for. It s something you
own . With it, you re one of a kind and it makes you feel good about yourself. Ownership of a special
talent defines who you are and elevates your self esteem.
There are many interpretations on what it means to own something. Some people see owning things as
a way to show off how much they re worth. Other people may see owning things as having a
capability that other people do not have, like a special gift or skill that makes them unique. Owning

Pros and Cons of Legalising Marijuana
Cannabis is becoming increasingly widespread and increasingly common in modern day society for
both recreational use and for medication. The article by Craig Reinarman, Criminalisation, legalisation
and the mixed blessing of medicalisation in the USA generates many controversial issues of cannabis.
The two sided debate between embracing medical use of the drug through the therapeutic benefits and
the link between cannabis and psychosis is explored. This issues also stems the question of the
legitimacy of legalisation and criminalisation of cannabis and how key concepts are raised including
moral entrepreneur and social locus . In today s society as cannabis is becoming increasingly
normalised , the theory that cannabis is a gateway drug also arises.
Despite the current marijuana laws, medical research has shown a variety of therapeutic benefits that
arise from the use of cannabis. (Gowling et al. 1998, p. 446)) Revealed that Over the years, cannabis
has been claimed to increase appetite, relax the muscle, improve mood, relieve anxiety and combat

The Book of Ser Marco Polo is a thirteenth century edition that was transcribed by Marco Polo s cell

Thomas Hardy s Treatment Of Women In Wessex Tales
The Role Of Women in Thomas Hardy s Wessex Tales In this piece I will be showing the role of
women in the 18th century around the time the Wessex Tales has been set. I will be showing the ways
Thomas Hardy expresses his opinion in the way that some of the women act and showing the harsh
reality that women had to face in the 18th century. The daughter s seclusion was great, but beyond the
seclusion of the girl lay the seclusion of the father. If her social condition was twilight, his was
darkness. Yet he enjoyed his darkness, while her twilight oppressed her. This quote comes from The

Dr Grove puts another obstacle in Phyllis s way by saying that she is going to stay with her aunt who
is supposed to be even worse than her father. This shows that Phyllis has no rights for as long as she
lives with her father she cannot do as she pleases. However on the night of Phyllis s and Mathias s
Departure Phyllis sees Humphrey Gould in a coach driving towards her house. Phyllis thinks that
Humphrey has come back to marry her however she still wants to go with Mathias. Her promise must
be kept, and esteem must take the place of love. She would preserve her self respect. She would stay
at home, and marry him, and suffer. This quotation shows that although Humphrey Gould has left her
for so long she will marry to keep her self respect by keeping her promise to Humphrey and not
disrespect herself or her family. This sort of Social Hierarchy is also shown in The Son s Veto .
However it is a vicar, highly classed gentleman, who marries his parlour maid after he feels that it is

Mother-Daughter Relationships In The Red Tent By Anita...
Importance of Mother Daughter Relationships in The Red Tent
The strong portrayal of mother daughter relationships in The Red Tent by Anita Diamant results from
the need women, like Leah and Dinah, had to share their life stories, as well as to create a sense of
community among the women living in a patriarchal society.
Diamant places great emphasis on the importance of mother daughter relationships since women could
not share their memories and life stories any other way. Not unlike the main protagonist, Dinah,
women lived in a world controlled by men. Every man had the control over every woman s decisions:
their fathers, their husbands, their sons. Due to the power imbalance, women had a hard time sharing
their memoirs. Their memories did ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Every female character in the novel has a strong community of women around her. This sense of
belonging was strengthened by the time spent in the red tent each month, where men could not come
in: It was unthinkable that a healthy man would walk of his own will inside that place during the head
of the month (Diamant 117) Men would not enter the red tent because it offered women a place to
have for themselves; besides, men did not wish to associate themselves with these places. Unless
injured, a healthy men would not want to be under a roof ruled by women. The red tent served the
purpose of bringing women close together, away from men and away from their daily duties. In a
patriarchal society, where men governed, female relationships helped women cope with problems and
misfortunes. Mothers and daughters created a special tie thanks to the time shared in the tent. When
Dinah s mothers officially welcome her to the red tent Dinah realizes: Now I could pour out wine and
make bread offerings at the new moon, and soon I would learn the secrets that pass between men and
women. (Diamant 171) Dinah s relationship with her mothers is fortified after belonging to the red
tent. Since it served as a sanctuary, her mothers would be able to communicate to her what she needs
to know about the world. The bond between Dinah and her mothers strengthened, a bond necessary to

The Epidemic Of The Plague
During the time of 1346 through 1353 a mysterious illness had swept through Asia and Europe. This
illness killed about 25 million people over the 13 years it was prominent. This deadly illness was then
identified as the plague. A pandemic that swept through Europe but originated in China. It was a
rodent disease where an infected flea, with the bacteria Yersinia Pestis, would bite the rodent making it
ill. The rodent population was starting to die off, due to the plague, resulting in mass quantities of
fleas. Since Humans and rats were in such close quarters, and there were fewer rodents around, the
flea would jump to human. The way the plague spread was by zoonosis, this is where a disease is
transmitted from animal to Human. The plague ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The last form of plague was the pneumonic plague which infected lungs and cause pneumonia. This
was the most deadly form of the plague and would kill the human in one to three days. All three forms
of the plague originated from fleas but the severity of the plague varied.
People were dying for the plague in such short times the families of the deceased did not know what to
do with the large quantities of bodies. They started digging mass graves. Unfortunately back when the
plague was happening, documentation of the mass grave sites was not on the top of the people s
priority list. Now we are looking at the mass graves and trying to analyze what went on during that
time of distress. Now archaeologists are looking at the DNA of skeletons in the mass graves. They are
testing protein strands from the skeletons to see if there is a positive match if the plague bacteria,
Yersinia Pestis.
The mass graves that archeologists are looking at are located in northern Europe, central Europe and
southern Europe. Archeologists analyzed the DNA of skeletons from the mass grave sites to skeletons
of the same place but a different time period. The findings revealed that the plague may have entered
in two waves. Dwight and Wood (2008) compared and skeletons from a Danish town and compared
the skeletons to ones that were buried in mass graves in England. The two analyzed

  • 3. Foster Care As A Temporary Solution Essay Foster care is one of the major issues still faced in this world today. According to Crosson Tower (2013), in the early 1800s, boarding homes were instituted with the idea of rescuing good children from bad parents. She noted that the idea of paying for foster homes to house children was renounced because agencies advocating foster care argued that it would lead to foster parents taking children for money rather than out of altruism. However, she also explained that the practice of paying for foster care emerged, and the government became involved regulating and administering the foster care system in the twentieth century. In addition, her research indicated foster care became progressively more common as the form of caring where the parents were unable to care for their children. Although foster care is designed to be a temporary solution, the nature of foster care today shows the complete opposite (Crosson Tower, 2013). The organization that will be discussed in this paper is going to expand on the issue of foster care and their advocacy efforts to combat the issue. The Human Service Agency For over 25 years, Devereux Florida has been recognized as an agency for administrating behavioral health, mental disabilities, and child welfare assistance to children and families (About Us, n.d., para. 1). My best friend joined a sorority and she changed but not for the better. She became one of those girls who only thought about herself and her appearance. The Curious Incident of the Dog in Night Time is in the point of view of a teenage boy who suffers from a disorder named Christopher. Mrs. Peters cuts round the picture with a Stanley knife and then you put ink on the lino and press it onto the paper, which is why all the cars looked the same, because I did one car and pressed it onto the paper 9 times (Haddon 27). Many people may say that the picture takes away from the order of the book, but it adds detail to the book instead. Another time Christopher uses a diagram is when he is in the train station. • 19. Examples Of Materialism In A Perfect Day For Bananafish John Steinbeck suggests that to a monster the norm must seem monstrous, since everyone is normal to himself . Just as some people are born missing limbs or with another physical birth defect, such as a birthmark, others could be born missing a trait vital to communicate with the world around them or lose a trait throughout the course of their life. Although this missing trait is not visible to others in society, does not mean it is any less serious. For instance, Seymour has a severe case of PTSD after returning from war that causes his actions to seem abnormal to those around him, even his family. Furthermore, Seymour finds that the actions of those around him, the materialistically obsessed, are difficult for him to cope with. In J.D. Salinger s A Perfect Day for Bananafish , Salinger depicts how life is for the monsters like Seymour in such a materialistic society. Seymour, a seemingly normal man to the naked eye, is secluded from the world around him. Searching for an escape from such an uninviting society, Seymour takes some big grasps for help before committing to his eventual demise. Salinger begins his depiction of Seymour through disdain before he brings the audience to his heart breaking conclusion. Salinger indicates that the emotionally fragile cannot survive in a materialistic and superficial society because society is not willing to accept those who are different. Ishiguro Allusion An analysis on how Ishiguro alludes to underlying circumstances at Hailsham in Never Let Me Go For a significant part of the novel Never Let Me Go by Kazuo Ishiguro, the real function of Hailsham remains a mystery. However, Ishiguro does leave clues into solving this mystery. He does this by providing both an immediate and gradual realization that something is not quite right. This realization is conveyed through the use of choice words and unusual environments. Ishiguro provides few details, and the ones he does provide lack any real meaning. In this section, Kathy makes the realization that her donor did not necessarily want to just hear about Hailsham, but rather he wanted to remember Hailsham. Kathy felt that her donor wanted to feel as if he had lived through Hailsham, himself. This section makes the reader ask themselves why would Kathy s donor want to remember Hailsham. By reading in between the lines of this section we can gather that Hailsham was probably better than wherever Kathy s donor was to prior of being in her care. Maybe Kathy s donor had a poor and unfulfilling life. Maybe he feels that because Kathy is from Hailsham, she would have had a good life. From reading in between the lines we can gather that Kathy s donor had an awful life and wanted to feel as if he had been a part of Hailsham. This connection is important because it helps the reader determine that Hailsham was special without being told that directly. Additionally, this section further complicates the mystery around Hailsham. Ishiguro achieves this by making the reader ask questions similar to what makes Hailsham so special anyway? . Maybe this donor was mistreated, abused, or even just outright neglected. and that does not happen at Hailsham. Something ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 32. Reflection Paper On Social Work As a white, middle class, able bodied woman living in the United States, I recognize my privilege and wish to use it to the advantage of helping those who are marginalized and oppressed within our society. While being a woman helps me to understand the struggles of other women, growing up white middle class also brings forth the challenge of being able to empathize with certain clientele. For example, I have never experienced marginalization, exploitation, or oppression the way a young Black woman has. When applying for a job, I have never been concerned with being offered or denied the position because of the color of my skin. I have never been in fear for my life if I am pulled over by a police officer. Privilege as a white person means I don t necessarily need to worry about job discrimination, policy brutality, or judgement because of my skin color. Even the ignorance of not recognizing that you have privilege is oppressive. The socialization I experienced as a child taught many values that could impede my effectiveness in social work if not carefully dismantled and reassessed. I was conditioned in a homophobic Christian, middle class family. My family s life revolved around the church and all its roles, rules, and regulations. Homosexuality, in our household, was considered morally wrong and sinful. Christian hegemony influences our social, political, institutional and cultural society in the United States, which contributes to the marginalization of oppressed groups. As someone who identifies as bisexual, I hope to support the LGBT community by being an ally, advocating for equity and equality, as well as being a political activist for changing policies towards inclusivity for all citizens. Working with clients that have a strong religious background that is against homosexuality might cause interference with my ability to work with them, since I identify with the LGBT community. I realize that this is an area upon which I must work through so that I am not holding my own judgements against clients for their religion. Norris argues that the silencing of women in The Dead proves to make the feminist criticism stronger. She describes in depth the characters that are silenced and the ways that they are silenced and her view of on the feminist end of things. She supports that these women are silenced and makes a strong argument about it. But, overall, she says we read the novel as we choose to. Some readers may see it as different and some may not. How the background of what I m trying to convey is important. How Joyce saw women and how that was bled into Gabriel s character. Beckham has the view of masculinity and how Gabriel s ego is constantly being deflated. The argument that can be made is, he attempts to use these female characters to boost that ego, yet it doesn t work that way. Soldiers at war may make the ultimate sacrifice in the sequence of battle, but societies at war deal with the compromise. War requires more non renewable resources than any other industry in the world, the most abundant of those resources being humans. Since July 4, 1776 the US has been in some sort of conflict for 222 of the 239 years since that day. Humans require more basic necessities than any other living organism on the planet. The resources necessary to support a war are endless and can have massive affects on industry, geopolitical structure, populations, educational institutions, and much, much more. With The US having actively participated in war almost the entirety of its existence, war has been impacting everyone and everything in existence be it living or not. Humans alone, without the resources necessary to participate in war, require at least sustenance and shelter just to sustain life. Beyond that there are human needs such as clothing and skills to sustain life within a society. For each of these individuals it is mandatory to obtain one outfit of clothing, one meal a day that is sufficient enough to avoid poor nutrition, one place to sleep. The daughter s seclusion was great, but beyond the seclusion of the girl lay the seclusion of the father. If her social condition was twilight, his was darkness. Yet he enjoyed his darkness, while her twilight oppressed her. This quote comes from The Melancholy Hussar Of The German Legions. The quote shows us that Phyllis has to live in seclusion with ... At this point Dr Grove puts another obstacle in Phyllis s way by saying that she is going to stay with her aunt who is supposed to be even worse than her father. This shows that Phyllis has no rights for as long as she lives with her father she cannot do as she pleases. However on the night of Phyllis s and Mathias s Departure Phyllis sees Humphrey Gould in a coach driving towards her house. Phyllis thinks that Humphrey has come back to marry her however she still wants to go with Mathias. Her promise must be kept, and esteem must take the place of love. She would preserve her self respect. She would stay at home, and marry him, and suffer. This quotation shows that although Humphrey Gould has left her for so long she will marry to keep her self respect by keeping her promise to Humphrey and not disrespect herself or her family. This sort of Social Hierarchy is also shown in The Son s Veto . However it is a vicar, highly classed gentleman, who marries his parlour maid after he feels that it is his fault for her becoming crippled. • 44. Mother-Daughter Relationships In The Red Tent By Anita... Importance of Mother Daughter Relationships in The Red Tent The strong portrayal of mother daughter relationships in The Red Tent by Anita Diamant results from the need women, like Leah and Dinah, had to share their life stories, as well as to create a sense of community among the women living in a patriarchal society. Diamant places great emphasis on the importance of mother daughter relationships since women could not share their memories and life stories any other way. Not unlike the main protagonist, Dinah, women lived in a world controlled by men. Every man had the control over every woman s decisions: their fathers, their husbands, their sons. This sense of belonging was strengthened by the time spent in the red tent each month, where men could not come in: It was unthinkable that a healthy man would walk of his own will inside that place during the head of the month (Diamant 117) Men would not enter the red tent because it offered women a place to have for themselves; besides, men did not wish to associate themselves with these places. In a patriarchal society, where men governed, female relationships helped women cope with problems and misfortunes. Mothers and daughters created a special tie thanks to the time shared in the tent. When Dinah s mothers officially welcome her to the red tent Dinah realizes: Now I could pour out wine and make bread offerings at the new moon, and soon I would learn the secrets that pass between men and women. (Diamant 171) Dinah s relationship with her mothers is fortified after belonging to the red tent.
