Unit 18 Database Design Oliver Taylor Resubmission
Unit 18
Task 1 What are the benefits of a relational database?
A benefit of a relational database would be that the data is only stored once. This means you don t
have to change multiple records and it doesn t take up much storage space. For the veterinary practise
this is ideal for them, as this is the main reason to why they re changing from paper to Microsoft
Access. Having everything on Access and not on paper means they can search for information quicker
through the search bar and also it can all be stored on a hard drive. This will save money on buying
filing cabinets, on storage space, time spent looking for information and on buying materials such as
paper and ink.
Another benefit would be its more secure. This is because ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If the field size is 70 , that means the user can input up to 70 letters, numbers or symbols. It s
important that you change it field size if it s the automatically the appropriate size. This is because if
you have a field size of 70, that ll take up 70 bytes of storage, which by itself isn t a lot, but over a
massive database that ll take up a lot of room. So for a First Name for example, instead of leaving it as
70, it should be changed to around 10 15.
One to One relationship
A one to one relationship in a database is where each row in a database is linked with another
database. Only one can be linked with another from another table. For example in Table A and Table
B, each row in Table has to be linked with another row in Table B. In each of them, they must have the
same number of rows, otherwise it won t work. This does make it sound like you could just merge the
two tables into one, which in theory is true. But the advantage of having two separate tables is that if
you have columns of data that you don t often use then you can separate them into another table. This
will make information in the primary table easier to read as it will only have the relevant information
in it.
One to many relationships
A one to many database relationship is where each row in a table can be related to many other rows in
another table. With being able to do this you can use frequently used data from one data and reference
it many

Three Ethical Theories Of Ageism
Robert Butler a physician, gerontologist, psychiatrist, and Pulitzer Prize winning author, who was the
first director of the National Institute on Aging described ageism as [a] process of systematic
stereotyping or discrimination against people because they are old, just as racism and sexism
accomplish with skin color and gender. Ageism allows the younger generations to see older people as
different than themselves; thus they subtly cease to identify with their elders as human beings.
Butler saw ageism manifested in a wide range of phenomena on both individual and institutional
levels stereotypes and myths, outright disdain and dislike, simple avoidance of contact, and
discriminatory practices in housing, employment, and services of all kinds. In today s society people
view seniors as less valuable. They are perceived as frail and undesirable because of their ... Show

The Feminist Legal Theory focuses on women who are of mature age being given less rights and
opportunities and are also being disregarded in the discourse. It has been pointed out by feminist
writers that age can be an organizing principle of power, just as gender, race, class, and sexual
orientation are.
In context of how systems maintain some arrangements but also may substitute inequalities in later
life, other authors have begun to contemplate age and gender lenses. For example as a group, married
women and men tend to be better off in terms of their economic/material, health and social resources
than those who are not married. Similarly, younger age associates of married women have a tendency
to be better off than older age associates of married women.
This invites consideration of how rules specifically or cumulatively across the life course aid the
relative benefits or drawbacks for various groups of older

Introduction
Canada s food safety system is globally recognized as one of the safest system, because we believe
food safety is the responsibility of everyone in the food environment. The Canadian Food Inspection
Agency (CFIA) is responsible for food safety at federal level. CFIA impose food safety and nutritional
standards set by Health Canada. Ministry of Health and Long Term Care (MOHLTC) is responsible
for protecting the health of Ontarians. Canadian government make every effort to protect the
population from health hazards and food borne illness. The Health Protection and Promotion Act
(HPPA) is the main piece of legislation outlining the important hazard reduction steps. The HPPA
authorizes the Ontario Public Health Standards (OPHS) which are functional in their individual
protocol. The Food Safety Protocol, 2015 describe the specific requirements that each health unit must
follow in order to prevent and reduce foodborne illness. Each premises must undergo a risk
assessment that evaluate hazard and level of risk.
Regulation 562, under HPPA specifies board of health (BOH) to conduct inspection of food premises.
Examining the risk of a food premises is a key part of the inspection process and assigning a numeric
score, which correlates with overall risk level of food premise. A restaurant s level of risk is dependent

Why Is Tom Brady Is The Psychoanalytic Theory
Tom Brady is the quarterback for the New England Patriots of the NFL. With his eight Super Bowl
appearances, and unprecedented five Super Bowl wins, he s been labeled by many as the greatest
quarterback in the history of football. Many attribute this to his hard work off the field, and leadership
on the field. In my personal analysis, we ve never seen a player like Brady. Someone who just finds a
way to win, against all odds. Whether it be working against opposing defenses, haters, or even the
league itself, Brady just has a knack for winning. This had led him to become the winningest player in
NFL history. People close to him have said that this attitude of needing to win has been present since
his high school career. As a backup on his ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He s a leader, a hard worker, curious, and strives for perfection. He is superego driven, meaning that
his dominated by his inner self. The ideas and expectations he sets for himself is what is displayed to
the public. On the surface, Brady has satisfied basic needs, and is working towards self actualization.
This is seen in the amount of work he does in order to ensure he may have peak performance in his
career. Cardinal traits dominate much of who Brady is. As previously stated, his leadership has been
pointed out by teammates and coaches. These personality traits are a direct link to his personality type.
Lastly, Brady is a living example of the social cognitive theory. Brady may spend hours on end

but I was curious to know what a golden pheasant was. I picked the golden pheasant as my project
topic and set to work. I learned 3 basic things about the golden pheasant. They are the basic anatomy
of the bird, the habitat, and what we can do to save the species. Now let s get to the information. The

supply motorbikes which would making motorcycling more fun and accessible for people. The plan
from the start was to build a motorcycle that would compete with custom built American race bikes,

encompass all the products within the Braaap brand from clothing, spare parts, motorcycles etc
Prices for the bikes are as follows:

125cc $2,399.00
Classic 150cc $2.999.00
Maistro 150cc $3,999.00
Pro 190cc $4,649.00

Braaap are a reasonably priced brand with the performance of the other major motorbike brands like
Yamaha and Honda. Yamaha in comparison with the 250 cc road racer with a similar model sells for
around $8,999.00 and Honda is around $4,300.00.This means that they are competitively priced and
affordable to the mass market.
One problem that could arise is the price of the components, if the cost of these rise this could

The Pros And Cons Of Protective Tariffs
First, one of the restrictions to free trade is tariff. According to Menlo Atherton High School (2015), a
tax that is put on imported goods from abroad is known as tariff. Tariff is used to raise the price of
imported goods so that the domestic producers can sell their similar goods at higher prices. Domestic
government will be the one collecting the money that is received from tariff. Protective tariffs and
revenue tariffs are the types of tariff. Protective tariffs are put on imported goods so that it will be
more expensive. It is used to protect the domestic industries from the competition of foreign firms.
Revenue tariffs are used to raise money for government (Menlo Atherton High School, 2015). The
benefit of tariffs are uneven due to tariff is a tax. Besides that government is benefited, domestic
industries are benefit from it as well due to the reduction of competition from foreign productions. It is
because of the increased prices of the imported products. However, it is unfortunate for the consumers
because the higher price of goods is due to higher import price. Tariff tends to bring advantages for
government and producers but not to the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to Menlo Atherton High School (2015), a quota is a limit on the number of goods that can
be shipped in. A quota seems like a sensible alternative to a tariff when the intention is to restrict
foreign producers’ access to the domestic market. Importers typically are limited to a maximum
amount of products that they can sell in the home market over specific periods. A quota, similar to a
tariff, causes costs to increase in the home market. This induces domestic producers to increase
production and consumers to reduce consumption. One difference between a tariff and a quota is that
the tariff generates revenue for the government, while the quota generates a revenue gain to the owner
of import licenses. Consequently, foreign producers might capture some of this

The Dark Knight Harvey Dent Analysis
The conflicting relationships between moral desire and ethical duty is one fought every day in almost
every decision made. This decision to do what s right versus what they want is affected by many
different factors. One of the most important factors that can impact people s views on the balance of
desire vs duty is major adversities people have faced. However adversities that alter people s
philosophical views usually involve great tragedy commonly found at least once in every life. As a
consequence, people often experience some form of philosophical shift in their life based on shifting
ideals. This is clearly shown in by the conflict Harvey Dent faces in The Dark Knight, since he starts
as the White Knight and ends as a murderer. This ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Also this deadly situation which he unexpectedly survives leads Harvey to question his life goals and
achievements as just when he won against the Joker he also suffers his greatest loss. Additionally this
crushes the anti corruption crusader s ability to continue his old ways of fighting crime and being the
city s White Knight as his own ethics are soon confused without a moral counter balance leaving him
vulnerable to the winds of change looking for a reason why he survived. Additionally his first words at
realising he was going to be saved over Rachel Harvey shouts No no no not me. Why are you coming
for me . This demonstrates how his moral desires were torn apart leaving his ethical duty left without a
counterbalance to serve against. Devastated this left him vulnerable as he looked for a new desire in
life and was ready to sacrifice the now outdated ethics which had failed him earlier.
While in this vulnerable state he is easily subjected to the new ideas that Joker uses to corrupt and
redesign Harvey Dent s ethical codes. Ironically this is done in the hospital where people are supposed
to heal. In the hospital evacuation scene the short conversation held between them made all the
difference to the White Knight s ethics leading him to pursue an entirely new philosophy as The joker
instilled a new moral desire. The conversation held exposes Dent to the random, uncontrollable,

Dr. Bundy, The Murderer, Rapist And Necrophilia Of Many...
Introduction
Theodore Robert Cowell, also known as Ted Bundy, was a murderer, rapist and necrophilia of many
young women between 1974 and 1978. Bundy murdered young women all over the United States,
including Washington, Utah, Oregon, Colorado and Florida. He was a suspect in over thirty six
murders and allegedly murdered many more. (2015, www.twistedminds.com). Fortunately, forensic
science played a key role in the conviction of several murders.
The murders
On the morning of January 4, 1974, Bundy entered the home of an 18 year old female University of
Washington student, Joni Lenz. Bundy used a crow bar and bludgeoned her with it while she was
sleeping. He also removed a rod from her headboard and sexually abused her with it. ... Show more

Police from the area now had a description of Bundy and his vehicle. His description and sketch were
plastered on the news and in newspapers around the area. The police received calls from his ex
coworker Ann Rule, his girlfriend, and a UW professor claiming that Bundy could be the suspect.
However, the police didn t accept that Bundy could be the suspect given the fact that he was a clean
cut law student . (2015, www.clarkprosecutor.org). In September of 1974, the two victims remains
were discovered off of the interstate near Issaquah.
Over the next four years, Bundy continued on this murder spree, targeting young women who had
dark shoulder length (or longer) hair, parted in the middle. They all resembled Stephanie, the love of
his life that he could never have . (2015, www.twistedminds.com). While he attended law school, he
would kill more women in Colorado and Utah.
In Murray, Utah, on 8 November 1974, Bundy posed as Officer Rosewood of the Murray Police
Department. He approached a woman named Carol DaRonch, at a local mall, telling her to come with
him because someone tried to break into her car. (2015, www.clarkprosecutor.org). She got into his
car, but refused to buckle her seatbelt. Bundy handcuff her, but DaRonch struggled and was able to
escape.
Finally, Bundy was arrested in Salt Lake City, Utah under suspicion of burglary. (2015,

Deficits are financed by borrowings that itself increase the debt. If the ratio debt to GDP gets too high,
investors will worry that the government will either default on this debt or will devaluate by
monetising its debt and in this way engineer a high inflation rate. According to the Maastricht Treaty,
the EU countries should not have a budget deficit higher than 3% of the GDP and a debt higher than
60% of the GDP.
I.2.Overview the budget deficit in Viet Nam for the latest 5 years
Macroeconomic Report 2012 titled from macroeconomic instability to restructuring released by the
National Assembly s Economic Committee announced that Vietnam s state budget deficit and public
debts have increased rapidly.
The report (Figure 1 Annex) pointed out that the country has suffered constantly increasing the state
budget deficit for more than a decade. Particularly, the average state budget deficit (excluding
repayments for Vietnam s original debts) in the 2003 2007 period was only 1.3 percent of GDP, but
this figure had more than doubled to 2.7 percent of GDP in the 2008 2012 period.
Especially in recent years, ongoing budget deficits have led to the rapid growth of public debt.
Vietnam s total public debts have increased from about 40 percent of GDP in late 2007 to 57 percent
of GDP at the end of 2010 and only declined slightly in 2011. At the same time, Vietnam s foreign
debts have surged

Mexican American Sociological Perspective
I will be applying the three major sociological perspectives, which include functionalism, conflict
theory, and symbolic interactionism to the experiences of Hispanic Americans. No ethnic group
attracts more public attention than the Hispanic people do due to their large numbers, their residential
clustering, and bilingual programs and signs associated with them making them a recognizable ethnic
group. Hispanic people who live in poverty or the small number involved in gangs, drugs, or other
criminal activity get more attention and generate negative stereotypes, but most of them live as
members of the middle class. Functionalist Perspective: Hispanic Americans are increasing at a rapid

He mentions that Hispanics have higher median earnings than Blacks, but their educational levels fall
far below what African Americans have achieved. Parrillo argues that the Hispanics fall behind other

median income fall below Asians and Whites, but their median income is above African Americans. I
don t disagree with the fact that Hispanic Americans fall in terms of education and Parrillo s point of
having a low education due to their parent s level of education is definitely a fact. Overall, Hispanic
Americans greatly contribute to the American economy and help make small businesses become
successful. My one question to Parrillo s analysis would be what would happen to the economy once
the newer generations of Hispanics become educated. My prediction would be that the small
businesses would collapse due to no one making up for labor intensive job positions. The future shall

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Maid Agencies
Maid agencies and partnering recruitment offices act as intermediaries between employers and maids.
They serve an indispensable role in bringing together two distant parties, namely the affluent families

Becoming a fair minded thinker takes a lot of practice and discipline, because one has to overcome
their egocentric thoughts and bias to objectively understand all views of a situation. Paul and Elder
(2012) describe it best:
Fair mindedness entails the predisposition to consider all relevant viewpoints equally, without
reference to one s own feelings or selfish interests, or the feelings or selfish interests of one s friends,
community, or nation. It implies adherence to intellectual standards (such as accuracy, sound logic,
and breadth of vision), uninfluenced by one s own advantage or the advantage of one s group (Paul
Elder, 2012, p.19).
This was the viewpoint that I had early on in this class, and it rings even more true now, than when I
originally described the importance. Since learning about the traits of a disciplined mind such as:
Intellectual integrity, intellectual humility, intellectual courage, intellectual empathy, and intellectual
fair mindedness (Paul Elder, 2012, p. 18), it has been a goal to practice fair mindedness thinking on a

A Byzantine Fault
Introduction
Faults occur in every system which may halt the systems functionality. A fault that presents different
symptoms to different observers is called a Byzantine fault. These Byzantine faults form the reason for
the loss of a system service and are called Byzantine failures. A Byzantine failure may occur due to
arbitrary problems like corruption in their local state, production of incorrect outputs or by processing
requests incorrectly instead of the general situations like crashing or stopping. The ability of a system
to defend itself from Byzantine failures is called Byzantine fault tolerance which is a sub field of fault
tolerance.
A reliable computer system is a system that overcomes failures, one such failure is the Byzantine
Generals problem. This problem is rare and generally overlooked by the people who are unfamiliar
with the problem. It brings down the entire network if not tackled properly. This problem is most
common in distributed dependable network. This paper aims at explaining the Byzantine Generals
problem and providing a possible solution to that problem.
My motivation to write this topic comes from the wide usage of distributed systems in various fields
like particle physics, bioinformatics, weather, climate, visualization and graphics, economics and
finance etc., and the need to protect such systems. Failure of distributed systems leads to huge loss of
resources, time and money. Thus protecting from these kinds of failure is a challenging task

Another definitive cause of the Yugoslavian breakup was the nationalism of ethnic groups in the early

Croatia were the first to break away, but this caused Serbia to become hostile towards the two nations.
Consequently, the war in Croatia led to hundreds of thousands of refugees and also brought back
memories of the harsh acts of the Nazis in the 1940s. By 1992 a further conflict had broken out in
Bosnia, which had also succeeded from Yugoslavia. The Serbs who lived there were determined in
remaining within Yugoslavia and to help build a more homogenous Serbia. They received strong
backing from radical groups in Belgrade. Muslims were driven from their homes in carefully planned
operations that become known as ethnic cleansing . By 1993 the Bosnian Muslim government was
besieged in the capital Sarajevo, surrounded by Bosnian Serb forces who controlled around 70% of
Bosnia. In Central Bosnia, the mainly Muslim army was fighting a separate war against Bosnian
Croats who wished to be part of a greater Croatia. The presence of United Nations peacekeepers was
required to contain the situation. The idea from culminated in the Yugoslav Peace Conference,

The Convergex Group 2013 Deferred Prosecution Agreement
Case Study of the ConvergEx Group 2013 Deferred Prosecution Agreement (DPA)
In December 2011, ConvergEx Group publicly disclosed parallel investigations by the United States
Securities and Exchange Commission and the United States Department of Justice. Between 2006 and
2011, two former employees of ConvergEx Group had concealed the routing of certain global trading
and transition management customer orders to the former Bermuda trading desk of ConvergEx Global
Markets ( GCM ) where they were net traded ( ConvergEx Resolves, 2013). According to the court
documents, Acting Assistant Attorney General Mythili Raman stated ...ConvergEx...along with several
of its employees, engaged in a concerted and coordinated effort to fleece its clients by charging them
millions of dollars in unwarranted fees...and then concealing those charges from its clients through a
pattern of deception ( Convergex Group, 2013). In layman s terms, ConvergEx employees were
moving funds through ConvergEx Global Markets in Bermuda, while marking up or down the
investments in order to keep a sum of the money for themselves from the clients. The employees also
falsified the documents that were sent to the clients regarding these transactions. The subsidiaries and
the individuals involved with this scheme were charged with wire fraud and conspiracy to commit
securities fraud and wire fraud.
On December 12, 2013 ConvergEx Group LLC signed a deferred prosecution agreement or DPA,
which included fines totaling

Fish Cheeks By Amy Tan
Amy Tan s short story, Fish Cheeks, outlines the general idea of self acceptance. As the narrator,
fourteen year old Tan declares her love for her minister s son, Robert, who unlike herself, is as white
as Mary in the manger (Tan 1). This crush is anything but healthy, primarily because Tan is reluctant
to reveal her true self to him. This hesitance she portrays is strikingly recognizable in the teenagers of
today s world. Amy Tan s story, Fish Cheeks, is significant to the adolescents of today s society
through the overall structure, quality, and applicability of the piece as the struggle to accept oneself as
an individual is still as present as it ever was.
As the story develops, the reader s thoughts are guided by the structure of the piece in a way that Tan
is able to share an important lesson through the form of a personal narrative. The opening text
immediately introduces the narrator and her insecurities as she wishes for a slim new American nose
(Tan 1). The story initially takes on a negative tone as Tan proceeds to have a negative outlook
throughout the entire evening. Her overwhelming anxiety can almost be felt by the reader as she
worries what Robert will think of her noisy Chinese relatives who lacked proper American manners
and overall shabby Chinese Christmas (Tan 1). With the tone set, Tan continues to amplify each
dreadful detail of her family s traditional Christmas Eve dinner. This includes the actual meal, that of

Social Disadvantages Of Children Born Of Teenage Mothers
There are numerous social disadvantages of children born of teenage mothers. Due to the mother not
being finished growing, limited opportunities for education or the factor of being a single parent add
as stress factors that impact young children. According to Dr. Julia Morinis, lead author and researcher
for the Centre for Research on Inner City Health of St. Michael s Hospital, It s likely that being a teen
mother is a risk factor that indicates poorer circumstance for development in some cases. In a study
done by the Early Childhood Longitudinal Study Birth Cohort (ECLS B), they look at the early years

The research suggests the young age of the mother with the outcome of the child, while a varying
opinion of the research suggests the social disadvantage is the cause of the link of the child s lesser
development. Other analyses reported suggest girls who are disadvantaged in the realm of
socioeconomic status, education based factors, and other sociodemographic facets are most likely to
become teen mothers. There are some variables in the study that were used to accurately depict
findings. Demographics were taken into account and the mother s health during the duration of the
pregnancy. Another variable taken into account was household resources, whether or not they received
governmental assistance for food and housing. Then, parenting behaviors were measured. How much
time the mother spent with the child in a normal week running errands, reading books, telling stories,
and singing songs with the child was determined and the frequency of such activities. Finally, the
child s health and development is measured. The first measurement is at birth, then the next is at nine
months, and there s one at two years. The study describes the life situations of teenage mothers and
their children at nine months, then twenty four, to predict behavioral outcomes at fifty two months.
The results from the study are pervasive. Teenage mothers children are brought into the world with a
background of social disadvantage. Their mothers education level is lower, and they are

The Disease Of Gluten Intolerance
People with schizophrenia can be highly vulnerable due to the debilitating symptoms of their illness,
the discrimination they experience from medical providers, and their high rates of disease
comorbidities, like gluten intolerance, that may further debilitate functioning if left untreated. Since
the 1950s, higher rates of gluten intolerance have been observed in people with schizophrenia
compared to the general population. Diseases of gluten intolerance generally consist of either celiac
disease (CD) or non celiac gluten sensitivity (NCGS). CD occurs in about 1% of the general
population and is a hereditary, autoimmune response triggered by the ingestion of proteins known as
gluten that are found in common grains like wheat, barley, and rye (Cascella et al., 2011). CD is
typically diagnosed by confirming the presence of gluten antibodies in the blood, testing for the
presence of certain immune system genes known as Human Leukocyte Antigens (HLAs), and
confirmation of atrophied villi cells in the small intestine ( How Is Celiac Diagnosed? 2016). For CD
patients, atrophy of the small intestine leads to nutrient malabsorption and an increased permeability
of both the intestinal wall and potentially the blood brain barrier, which may contribute to extra
intestinal immune responses that cause the immune system to attack other organs and tissues
(Cascella, 2011). In addition to CD, Non Celiac Gluten Sensitivity (NCGS) is a form of gluten
intolerance where atrophied villi are

Computer Viruses And Its Effects On A Computer System
A computer virus is a malware program that, when executed copies itself into other data files,
computer programs, or the boot sector of the hard drive with 95% of viruses doing no more than that.
(1)(2). A virus might attach itself to a program such as a word document program. Each time the word
document program runs, the virus runs too and it has the chance to reproduce by attaching to other
programs. (3) Nowadays, it is extremely important to be aware of viruses because they can cause very
dangerous consequences such as identity theft and fraud. When people generally think about computer
viruses, they normally think about an attack on a computer system, however, they may not be aware of
how common computer viruses are. It can be beneficial to know a few of the different types of viruses,
the kind of damage they can cause and methods to protect yourself from them. In this essay, we will
be covering when computer viruses first made an appearance and contrasting this to how they are like
now on social media. Also, we will be covering how they work and what can be done to prevent the
growing risks of computer viruses on social media. Computer viruses were first widely seen in the late
1980s, with earlier viruses being pieces of code embedded in a larger, legitimate program such as a
spreadsheet program or a game. When the user downloads and runs this program, the virus loads itself
into memory then looks for any other programs on the disk. If it can find one, it modifies the

Alcohol Abuse Among Aboriginal Youth
Alcohol Abuse Among Aboriginal Youth

Alcohol Abuse Among Aboriginal Youth Alcohol abuse among Aboriginal youth is a prevalent issue in
Canada. This widespread drug abuse stems from social, cultural, and biological factors. As there are
many negative impacts that come with alcohol abuse, treatment options are necessary. When treating
Aboriginal youth for alcohol abuse, it is necessary for practitioners to take cultural context into
consideration to ensure sensitivity and success. It is important to understand alcohol abuse and why
Aboriginal youth are an especially high risk demographic. This helps to identify effective ways to
diminish alcohol abuse in the Aboriginal youth population through behavioural therapy, drug therapy,
and therapeutic recreation programs. While consumption of alcohol is a socially acceptable practice in
our society, issues arise when abuse occurs. Donatelle and Thompson (2011) define alcohol abuse as
the excessive consumption or a level of consumption that interferes with work, school, or social and
family relationships (256). As with other drug addictions, this abuse is disruptive to the alcohol
abusers life as well as to those close to them. Moreover, alcohol abuse is accompanied by many
devastating effects for all demographics. The harms associated with the misuse and abuse of alcohol
includes: harm to oneself, negative effects on friendships and social life, and negative affects to

The New York Yankees, It Can Destroy Your Future
The past should be left in the past, otherwise it can destroy your future. These are wonderful words
which we should all strive to live by. But letting go of a regrettable past is difficult for even the
strongest among us. For members of the 1960 New York Yankees, the World Series of that year is still
the most disappointing memory any of them can recall. And while vivid mental pictures of a bad hop
grounder hitting shortstop Tony Kubek in the throat, the Clemente chop, which landed between two
undecided fielders and the unforgettable sight of Yogi, his back to the camera, watching helplessly as
Bill Mazeroski s homerun sails over the left field wall, are all etched in the mind of everyone who
witnessed these mind boggling ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Many choices that were made have never been justified, leading to questions that have never been
answered. Nevertheless, much of what went wrong in that seven game series for the New Yorkers can
be chalked up to chance. However, in retrospect, it is quite evident that with sound decision making
and fundamental baseball strategy, many of the unfortunate things that took place could have been
avoided. The Yankees should have never been put in a such a position, their backs to the wall in a
seventh game. The team was far too talented for that to have happened. And it is with the same
staunch belief that I place much of the blame at the feet of manager Casey Stengel, not in a way to
attack his character, but to question his astuteness as a team leader at that point in his career. Of all of
the questionable choices he made in the 1960 Fall Classic, it was the use of his pitching staff for
which Stengel is still most heavily criticized. His most questionable moves relate to the pitchers he
selected as well as the timing and sequence in which he used them, the most glaring being his choice
of starting pitcher for game one. Picking the game one starter is one of the most crucial decisions a
World Series manager will make. The first game pitcher will not only set the tone for the remainder of
the series, but should the series reach a seventh game, the number one starter in the rotation will be
available to work games four and seven as well. And while Art Ditmar

The aim of this project is travel without the necessity of the traveler taking numerous documents,
cards etc. As an employee of SITP Ltd, my proposal is to design a credit card sized device that holds
your credit cards, debit cards, gift cards, rewards cards and other important documents, allowing you
to swap from card to card based on your requirements. The owner of the card can store up to 6 cards
on the physical card at one time. You can store an unlimited amount of accounts in the app, and it s as

Hinduism
Hinduism is the religion followed by the people of South Asia, mainly in India though. The term
HInduism actually means what the Indians do and was applied to these people by Islamic Invaders.
Hinduism is actually a mix of several differents ideals from different religions. Parts of it draw on the
Vedic religion of the Aryan tribes from the north, some from the Dravidian civilization to the south,
along with ideas from Buddhism. From the Dravidians came the beilief of intense devotion to the gods
and the rituals for fertility and other such things. It is not known yet how the Vedic religion manifested
into Hinduism. As in all civilizations of the time, the priests held high power and stature in society, but

This deity would then bring violence and destruction to the world. This ideal of women and of fertility
is almostly directly to the beiliefs of the Dravidians. There are also many, many other gods besides
these three main ones. That s one of the distinguishing factors of Hinduism, the amount and the
variety of gods that were used to explain events in life and life itself. Even with all of these gods out
there, worshipers were to devote most of their worship at one specific deity. This did not mean that the
other gods would strike back for not being worshipped, for each was worshipped by at least one
person. This sense of unity amongst the gods and the people is brought out buy certain texts, such as
the Bhagad Gita. The purpose in life was to praise your deity to the best of your ability so as to get the
god s favor. Religious duties were not only based on class, but also on gender and on age. The center
of worship for these gods was the temple, some being simple and others being extremely elegant.
Many of these temples had a beautiful statue of their deity. This statue was there for the diety to
possess so that they could be worshipped by the people even more. To worship their deity, some
would take part in puja, which was a service to the deity that involved bathing, clothing, or feeding the
statue. Some people were even blessed enought to see their god, even if just for an instance. They

Effects of Motivation on Learned Helplessness
Effects of Motivation on Learned Helplessness Learned helplessness is a psychological condition in
which a human being or an animal has learned to act or behave helpless in a particular situation, even
when it has the power to change its unpleasant or even harmful circumstance (Seligman, 1975). This
feeling of helplessness is generated when the individual has been exposed to previous uncontrollable
events and thus learns to fail in the current situation because responding in the past had yielded
insignificant results (Nation Massad, 1975). Therefore by attributing uncontrollable negative
outcomes to internal and lasting causes, people might perceive that future events will also be
uncontrollable. As such, helplessness is manifested in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
From these inventories, the researchers found that the need for validation from others was positively
related to negative moods such as anxiety and depression. On the other hand, a person who is more
self reinforcing (higher intrinsic motivation) is less vulnerable to anxiety and depression. This is
mainly because individuals with a high need for reassurance from others (extrinsically motivated) are
more vulnerable to anxiety and depression when others are not present to motivate them compared to
intrinsically motivated individuals. Since learned helplessness is often linked with depression
(Abraham, Metalsky Alloy, 1989) extrinsically motivated individuals are more prone to learned
helplessness compared to intrinsically motivated individuals. Thus, this research shows mixed results
on whether motivation helps to reduce learned helplessness. The present study hopes to show that
motivation does help in reducing learned helplessness among young adults. The study does not aim to
replicate any of the earlier studies but serves as a brand new experiment to affirm the fact that
motivation helps in reducing learned helplessness. The hypothesis to be proved is that motivation aids
in reducing learned helplessness among young adults. This concurs with the studies done by Seligman
(1975), Kuhl (1981), Deci and Ryan (2000) Boggiano and Barrett (1985) in the motivation helps to

around a search for gendered justice. As a rejection of standard masculine methodological models,
with their assumed objectivity and detachment, feminist approaches have been designed to recognize

She begins her work Justice and the Politics of Difference, through examining the constraints within
the definition of injustice: oppression and domination. Her goal is to place these words, particularly
oppression, within the discourse of the social structures in America. No two groups suffer in the same
ways, yet they share a commonality in their inability to exercise their needs and meet their capabilities
or their oppression (40). Young presses that this oppression must be viewed in a way that analyzes the
condition of human practices and their conscious actions. Young continues by defining social groups,
aggregate, and associations. Social groups are collectives of persons differentiated from other groups
by cultural forms, practices, or ways of life. Aggregates are classification of people according to
attributes, and associates are formally organized institutions (43 44). Groups through these only exist
in relation to other groups. These groups arise from a common oppression or their identity has to be
pointed out by outside groups. Young then provides her particular methodology for defining a group as
oppressed. These criteria are exploitation, marginalization, powerlessness, cultural imperialism, and
violence. She says that only one of these criteria must be met in order for a group to be considered
oppressed. This oppression criteria must be utilized on the basis of comparison for groups, yet avoids
a hierarchy of oppression through saying that all groups are suffering and are united in their mutual
oppression. She moves intersectionally to show the basis of comparison for these groups and their
overlapping struggles. This method is another example of the way that a feminist theorist can classify
levels of suffering for marginalized

gender type of a story, but there is also a lesson that needs to be realized by the girl. In this story the
mother of this girl is her teacher, she tells her daughter of how the world is around her, just like Miss
Moore in The Lesson. ; The mother in this story tries to make her daughter realize that he needs to be

Jim Carrey Research Paper
I don t think human beings learn anything without desperation. Desperation is a necessary ingredient
to learning anything, or creating anything. Period. If you ain t desperate at some point, you ain t
interesting. Jim Carrey (http://www.brainyquote.com/quotes/authors/j/jim_carrey.html)
Carrey knows what it takes to be a strong actor and he worked hard to get where he is today. Carrey
was very dedicated to his career and his past holds the key to his future success.
Carrey was born in Newmarket, Ontario, Canada on January 17th, 1962 and had what was considered
a normal life. His family was stable because their father was working. But, when Carrey was the age
of 15, his father was laid off. Carrey then had to go out and support his family. Carrey was a part of a
stand up comedy club before he dropped out of school and he loved it. He just didn t realize how
much that affected him later in life. (http://www.jimcarreyonline.com/info/biography_full.html) His
mother was very ill when he dropped out of school and the family struggled to pay their bills, so
Carrey obtained a job as a janitor in a factory. (http://ca.askmen.com/top_10/celebrity/ten actors who

He said that his biggest break was his role in Ace Ventura: Pet Detective , and that was when people
started taking notice of him. After that, he played the lead role in The Mask, and Dumb and Dumber .
This set him up for future roles and made him realize that he wanted to continue in that field. He
wouldn t have done any of that had it not been for his past struggles and knowledge, and he couldn t
be more proud of what he has accomplished.

The Characteristics Of Baroque Music
At first glance, a number of pieces of baroque music can seem pretty straightforward and simplistic.
When performed exactly as it is written, usually by amateurs, the music may not be able to grab the
listener s attention and it is easy to assume that listeners back then had different musical ears that
modern listeners do that gave them the ability to tolerate such simplistic pieces. Could this really be
the music that some records have shown to drive people of the Baroque era to tears and even the urge
to faint? It is when a vocalist begins to embellish and ornament the various notes and give their own
improvisational touches to the piece that it truly begins to have character and grips the listener with it
s pulchritudinous composition, such as is with works such as Monteverdi s famous Ariadne s Lament,
a gorgeous work capable of moving most to tears; this is the importance of ornamentation when it
comes to musicians performing Baroque era music.
Unfortunately, there has been little research and discussion on what vocal characteristics are suitable
for the most authentic Baroque performance. A very common misunderstanding is that Baroque music
is innately limited, simple, or uninspired; however, the truth of it is that the music of the Baroque
gives the performer the freedom personal expression and individualized that is unrivaled by most
other periods of music history. To further illustrate, the Baroque era is like the instructor that assigns a

Noeleen Mcilvenna s A Very Mutinous People
History is comprised of actual accounts of things that happened, forces that have shaped us, and
lessons that we gain. As stated in the introduction, Wee will have noe Lords, noe Landgraves noe
Cassiques we renounce them all. With these words, the earliest settlers of North Carolina declared
their complete rejection of any social hierarchy in their colony . In Noeleen McIlvenna s book, A Very
Mutinous People, McIlvenna discussed why North Carolina doing their own thing made North
Carolina s history much different from that of any other early North American colony. It is said that,
North Carolina s story fits none of the familiar models of colonial American history (14).
The book is well written and easy to follow, and each chapter discusses ... Show more content on

I think that McIlvenna captured a lot for having had to draw many conclusions based on her
knowledge of the subject matter, like many historians must do when there is a lack of primary
documents. The usage of maps, as on pages 16 and 96, helps with the visualization aspect. For
weaknesses, because it is an already thin book, I thought that the author spent a lot of time repeating
herself. We also get a lot of quotes from letters back and forth, but it would have been nice for
something more than that. McIlvenna also overstates the case that most of the people in the Albemarle
area were trying to set up a democratic, egalitarian world. Just because they wanted to be free from the
sheriffs, tax collectors, etc., does not mean that they were after some idealistic society of equals. To
put the time period that she discusses in context, McIlvenna should have included comparisons in her
book with other NC rebellions in the colonial period. Even though McIlvenna does not do much to
tease out stories, personalities, drama, action, etc., it would be a great read for anyone interested in
learning about early colonial freedom movements as it is very informative. This book is almost an
institutional type history of how North Carolina was arranged, ordered, and fought

Safe Disposal of Insulation Material
There have been various types of Insulating materials used within the electrical power industry since
the beginning of electrical power. And over the years scientist and environmentalist have discovered
that most if not all insulating materials are harmful to the human body or the environment in one way
or another, being shot term or long term exposures. First of all, the term insulating material refers to a
substance that has the ability to resist electrical energy flow to make a conductor or copper wire safe
to touch by human hands for instance. But all these insulating materials will break down at a certain
limit if the power is strong enough, so this tells us that there is no such thing as a perfect insulator.
This example explained above is one use for an insulating material within the electrical power
industry. Insulators serve many advanced purposes and conditions. Be it Arc suppression within circuit
breakers or voltage insulation on power lines, or even protective equipment worn by electrical
workers. A majority of these insulating materials have been known to cause health hazards to humans
and environmental hazards to the environment which will be discussed in a bit more detail further on,

Language Death Essay
Main Issues: The way in which our world functions today is a result of colonialization. Language
death and linguistic endangerment is woven with colonialization and the history of oppression toward
indigenous communities. We cannot speak of language death without first acknowledging the speakers
and the systematic oppression that indigenous communities continue struggling to resist. In present
time language shifts due to economic incentive of hegemony and the mediating role of language
ideologies are two of the most important causes of language death. Language shift and language
ideologies that ultimately cause language death are current consequences of colonialization. The death
of a language has both of linguistic and cultural consequences to the particular community affected
and to the world s diversity as a whole. Languages serve as carries of cultural knowledge, as identity
and verbal art, hence when a language is lost cultural resources, identity and verbal art are lost. One of
the most important causes of language death is language shifts due to economic incentives of
hegemony. A language shift is when people adopt the language of the hegemonic society replacing
their mother tongue in both their personal and professional lives (Mithum 1998:182). The shift of
language is motivated by the hope for economic prosper as hegemonic languages like English and
French dominate the economic market place. This language shift is also understood through the terms

How To Grow Corn Essay
Corn: The Planting Of Growing a crop of corn can be very rewarding. With some hard work and a
little bit of luck, it can be very profitable. Planting corn doesn t sound too complicated, but knowing
how to do it right can be the difference between losing money and making a profit. To get started
planting your field of corn, you will need access to a tractor, a field cultivator, a planter, fertilizer, seed
corn and a lot of farm diesel. Of course, you will need to own some farmland or be leasing the farming
rights from the landowner. If you are fortunate enough to have farmland with irrigation, it can
diminish one of the biggest risks associated with farming. Droughts or dry spells are unforgiving, and
no matter how well you prepare the soil, you will need rain or irrigation water. Using good farming
practices will ensure greater corn yields and a higher profit margin!
Begin by deciding when to start planting in your area. The planting start date should be determined by

To get the first set of rows straight, it helps to set some markers in a straight line from one end of the
field to the other as a guide to follow; this will be best with two people. Begin by putting something
that you can see from the other end of the field, at the other end of the field, measured out from the
edge of the farm to the desired distance. Usually, a five gallon bucket will do. Then drive back
towards the planter and set a marker about a hundred yards in front of the tractor, measured out from
the edge of the field the same distance as the bucket on the other end. We use cheap paper plates
buried about half way down for the markers, they break down quick in the rain and are biodegradable.
We can now have someone drive back towards the bucket and stop every couple hundred yards and set
a plate in line with the others, the person left at the planter can wave him right or left to help get them
aligned as straight as

  • 2. Unit 18 Database Design Oliver Taylor Resubmission Unit 18 Task 1 What are the benefits of a relational database? A benefit of a relational database would be that the data is only stored once. This means you don t have to change multiple records and it doesn t take up much storage space. For the veterinary practise this is ideal for them, as this is the main reason to why they re changing from paper to Microsoft Access. Having everything on Access and not on paper means they can search for information quicker through the search bar and also it can all be stored on a hard drive. This will save money on buying filing cabinets, on storage space, time spent looking for information and on buying materials such as paper and ink. Another benefit would be its more secure. It s important that you change it field size if it s the automatically the appropriate size. This is because if you have a field size of 70, that ll take up 70 bytes of storage, which by itself isn t a lot, but over a massive database that ll take up a lot of room. So for a First Name for example, instead of leaving it as 70, it should be changed to around 10 15. One to One relationship A one to one relationship in a database is where each row in a database is linked with another database. Only one can be linked with another from another table. For example in Table A and Table B, each row in Table has to be linked with another row in Table B. In each of them, they must have the same number of rows, otherwise it won t work. This does make it sound like you could just merge the two tables into one, which in theory is true. But the advantage of having two separate tables is that if you have columns of data that you don t often use then you can separate them into another table. This will make information in the primary table easier to read as it will only have the relevant information in it. One to many relationships A one to many database relationship is where each row in a table can be related to many other rows in another table. With being able to do this you can use frequently used data from one data and reference it many ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Three Ethical Theories Of Ageism Robert Butler a physician, gerontologist, psychiatrist, and Pulitzer Prize winning author, who was the first director of the National Institute on Aging described ageism as [a] process of systematic stereotyping or discrimination against people because they are old, just as racism and sexism accomplish with skin color and gender. Ageism allows the younger generations to see older people as different than themselves; thus they subtly cease to identify with their elders as human beings. Butler saw ageism manifested in a wide range of phenomena on both individual and institutional levels stereotypes and myths, outright disdain and dislike, simple avoidance of contact, and discriminatory practices in housing, employment, and services of all kinds. In today s society people view seniors as less valuable. They are perceived as frail and undesirable because of their ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Feminist Legal Theory focuses on women who are of mature age being given less rights and opportunities and are also being disregarded in the discourse. It has been pointed out by feminist writers that age can be an organizing principle of power, just as gender, race, class, and sexual orientation are. In context of how systems maintain some arrangements but also may substitute inequalities in later life, other authors have begun to contemplate age and gender lenses. For example as a group, married women and men tend to be better off in terms of their economic/material, health and social resources than those who are not married. Similarly, younger age associates of married women have a tendency to be better off than older age associates of married women. This invites consideration of how rules specifically or cumulatively across the life course aid the relative benefits or drawbacks for various groups of older ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Dissolution Of Yugoslavi Yugoslavia The Dissolution of Yugoslavia The country of Yugoslavia was first formed as a kingdom in 1918 after combining land areas from the now both defunct Ottoman and Austro Hungarian Empires and then recreated as a Socialist state in 1945 after the Axis powers were defeated in World War II. The Soviet Union took control of Yugoslavia after the war and wrote a new constitution for the country that established six constituent republics in the federation: Bosnia Hercegovina, Croatia, Macedonia, Montenegro, Serbia and Slovenia. The Republic of Serbia also had two self governing provinces: Vojvodina and Kosovo. Exceptions to this pattern of stability were the marked increase of the Albanian population and a steep decline in the numbers of Jews, ethnic Germans, and Hungarians after World War II (Cushman). Another definitive cause of the Yugoslavian breakup was the nationalism of ethnic groups in the early 1990s. Nationalism replaced communism as the dominant ideology in the country. Slovenia and then Croatia were the first to break away, but this caused Serbia to become hostile towards the two nations. Consequently, the war in Croatia led to hundreds of thousands of refugees and also brought back memories of the harsh acts of the Nazis in the 1940s. By 1992 a further conflict had broken out in Bosnia, which had also succeeded from Yugoslavia. The Serbs who lived there were determined in remaining within Yugoslavia and to help build a more homogenous Serbia. They received strong backing from radical groups in Belgrade. Muslims were driven from their homes in carefully planned operations that become known as ethnic cleansing . By 1993 the Bosnian Muslim government was besieged in the capital Sarajevo, surrounded by Bosnian Serb forces who controlled around 70% of Bosnia. In Central Bosnia, the mainly Muslim army was fighting a separate war against Bosnian Croats who wished to be part of a greater Croatia. • 23. Fish Cheeks By Amy Tan Amy Tan s short story, Fish Cheeks, outlines the general idea of self acceptance. As the narrator, fourteen year old Tan declares her love for her minister s son, Robert, who unlike herself, is as white as Mary in the manger (Tan 1). This crush is anything but healthy, primarily because Tan is reluctant to reveal her true self to him. This hesitance she portrays is strikingly recognizable in the teenagers of today s world. Amy Tan s story, Fish Cheeks, is significant to the adolescents of today s society through the overall structure, quality, and applicability of the piece as the struggle to accept oneself as an individual is still as present as it ever was. As the story develops, the reader s thoughts are guided by the structure of the piece in a way that Tan is able to share an important lesson through the form of a personal narrative. The opening text immediately introduces the narrator and her insecurities as she wishes for a slim new American nose (Tan 1). The story initially takes on a negative tone as Tan proceeds to have a negative outlook throughout the entire evening. Her overwhelming anxiety can almost be felt by the reader as she worries what Robert will think of her noisy Chinese relatives who lacked proper American manners and overall shabby Chinese Christmas (Tan 1). With the tone set, Tan continues to amplify each dreadful detail of her family s traditional Christmas Eve dinner. This includes the actual meal, that of which appeared to be ... The Disease Of Gluten Intolerance People with schizophrenia can be highly vulnerable due to the debilitating symptoms of their illness, the discrimination they experience from medical providers, and their high rates of disease comorbidities, like gluten intolerance, that may further debilitate functioning if left untreated. Since the 1950s, higher rates of gluten intolerance have been observed in people with schizophrenia compared to the general population. Diseases of gluten intolerance generally consist of either celiac disease (CD) or non celiac gluten sensitivity (NCGS). CD occurs in about 1% of the general population and is a hereditary, autoimmune response triggered by the ingestion of proteins known as gluten that are found in common grains like wheat, barley, and rye (Cascella et al., 2011). CD is typically diagnosed by confirming the presence of gluten antibodies in the blood, testing for the presence of certain immune system genes known as Human Leukocyte Antigens (HLAs), and confirmation of atrophied villi cells in the small intestine ( How Is Celiac Diagnosed? 2016). For CD patients, atrophy of the small intestine leads to nutrient malabsorption and an increased permeability of both the intestinal wall and potentially the blood brain barrier, which may contribute to extra intestinal immune responses that cause the immune system to attack other organs and tissues (Cascella, 2011). In addition to CD, Non Celiac Gluten Sensitivity (NCGS) is a form of gluten intolerance where atrophied villi are ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Alcohol Abuse Among Aboriginal Youth Alcohol Abuse Among Aboriginal Youth Mallory Endersby Douglas College Alcohol Abuse Among Aboriginal Youth Alcohol abuse among Aboriginal youth is a prevalent issue in Canada. This widespread drug abuse stems from social, cultural, and biological factors. As there are many negative impacts that come with alcohol abuse, treatment options are necessary. When treating Aboriginal youth for alcohol abuse, it is necessary for practitioners to take cultural context into consideration to ensure sensitivity and success. It is important to understand alcohol abuse and why Aboriginal youth are an especially high risk demographic. This helps to identify effective ways to diminish alcohol abuse in the Aboriginal youth population through behavioural therapy, drug therapy, and therapeutic recreation programs. While consumption of alcohol is a socially acceptable practice in our society, issues arise when abuse occurs. Donatelle and Thompson (2011) define alcohol abuse as the excessive consumption or a level of consumption that interferes with work, school, or social and family relationships (256). The Yankees should have never been put in a such a position, their backs to the wall in a seventh game. The team was far too talented for that to have happened. And it is with the same staunch belief that I place much of the blame at the feet of manager Casey Stengel, not in a way to attack his character, but to question his astuteness as a team leader at that point in his career. Of all of the questionable choices he made in the 1960 Fall Classic, it was the use of his pitching staff for which Stengel is still most heavily criticized. His most questionable moves relate to the pitchers he selected as well as the timing and sequence in which he used them, the most glaring being his choice of starting pitcher for game one. Picking the game one starter is one of the most crucial decisions a World Series manager will make. This feeling of helplessness is generated when the individual has been exposed to previous uncontrollable events and thus learns to fail in the current situation because responding in the past had yielded insignificant results (Nation Massad, 1975). Therefore by attributing uncontrollable negative outcomes to internal and lasting causes, people might perceive that future events will also be uncontrollable. From these inventories, the researchers found that the need for validation from others was positively related to negative moods such as anxiety and depression. On the other hand, a person who is more self reinforcing (higher intrinsic motivation) is less vulnerable to anxiety and depression. This is mainly because individuals with a high need for reassurance from others (extrinsically motivated) are more vulnerable to anxiety and depression when others are not present to motivate them compared to intrinsically motivated individuals. Since learned helplessness is often linked with depression (Abraham, Metalsky Alloy, 1989) extrinsically motivated individuals are more prone to learned helplessness compared to intrinsically motivated individuals. Thus, this research shows mixed results on whether motivation helps to reduce learned helplessness. The present study hopes to show that motivation does help in reducing learned helplessness among young adults. She begins her work Justice and the Politics of Difference, through examining the constraints within the definition of injustice: oppression and domination. Her goal is to place these words, particularly oppression, within the discourse of the social structures in America. No two groups suffer in the same ways, yet they share a commonality in their inability to exercise their needs and meet their capabilities or their oppression (40). Young presses that this oppression must be viewed in a way that analyzes the condition of human practices and their conscious actions. Young continues by defining social groups, aggregate, and associations. Social groups are collectives of persons differentiated from other groups by cultural forms, practices, or ways of life. Aggregates are classification of people according to attributes, and associates are formally organized institutions (43 44). Groups through these only exist in relation to other groups. These groups arise from a common oppression or their identity has to be pointed out by outside groups. Young then provides her particular methodology for defining a group as oppressed. These criteria are exploitation, marginalization, powerlessness, cultural imperialism, and violence. She says that only one of these criteria must be met in order for a group to be considered oppressed. This oppression criteria must be utilized on the basis of comparison for groups, yet avoids a hierarchy of oppression through saying that all groups are suffering and are united in their mutual oppression. She moves intersectionally to show the basis of comparison for these groups and their overlapping struggles. • 43. The Characteristics Of Baroque Music At first glance, a number of pieces of baroque music can seem pretty straightforward and simplistic. When performed exactly as it is written, usually by amateurs, the music may not be able to grab the listener s attention and it is easy to assume that listeners back then had different musical ears that modern listeners do that gave them the ability to tolerate such simplistic pieces. Could this really be the music that some records have shown to drive people of the Baroque era to tears and even the urge to faint? It is when a vocalist begins to embellish and ornament the various notes and give their own improvisational touches to the piece that it truly begins to have character and grips the listener with it s pulchritudinous composition, such as is with works such as Monteverdi s famous Ariadne s Lament, a gorgeous work capable of moving most to tears; this is the importance of ornamentation when it comes to musicians performing Baroque era music. Unfortunately, there has been little research and discussion on what vocal characteristics are suitable for the most authentic Baroque performance. A very common misunderstanding is that Baroque music is innately limited, simple, or uninspired; however, the truth of it is that the music of the Baroque gives the performer the freedom personal expression and individualized that is unrivaled by most other periods of music history. To further illustrate, the Baroque era is like the instructor that assigns a creative writing ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 44. Noeleen Mcilvenna s A Very Mutinous People History is comprised of actual accounts of things that happened, forces that have shaped us, and lessons that we gain. As stated in the introduction, Wee will have noe Lords, noe Landgraves noe Cassiques we renounce them all. With these words, the earliest settlers of North Carolina declared their complete rejection of any social hierarchy in their colony . In Noeleen McIlvenna s book, A Very Mutinous People, McIlvenna discussed why North Carolina doing their own thing made North Carolina s history much different from that of any other early North American colony. It is said that, North Carolina s story fits none of the familiar models of colonial American history (14). The book is well written and easy to follow, and each chapter discusses ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I think that McIlvenna captured a lot for having had to draw many conclusions based on her knowledge of the subject matter, like many historians must do when there is a lack of primary documents. The usage of maps, as on pages 16 and 96, helps with the visualization aspect. For weaknesses, because it is an already thin book, I thought that the author spent a lot of time repeating herself. We also get a lot of quotes from letters back and forth, but it would have been nice for something more than that. McIlvenna also overstates the case that most of the people in the Albemarle area were trying to set up a democratic, egalitarian world. Just because they wanted to be free from the sheriffs, tax collectors, etc., does not mean that they were after some idealistic society of equals. To put the time period that she discusses in context, McIlvenna should have included comparisons in her book with other NC rebellions in the colonial period. Even though McIlvenna does not do much to tease out stories, personalities, drama, action, etc., it would be a great read for anyone interested in learning about early colonial freedom movements as it is very informative. This book is almost an institutional type history of how North Carolina was arranged, ordered, and fought ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Student Name: Omar Merhi Subject Name: Maintain network protection and control systems (complex) Assignment topic: Safe disposal of insulation Material Assignment Number: 1 Date: 30/3/11 Number of pages: 4 Teacher: Craig Tooke Safe Disposal of Insulation Material There have been various types of Insulating materials used within the electrical power industry since the beginning of electrical power. And over the years scientist and environmentalist have discovered that most if not all insulating materials are harmful to the human body or the environment in one way or another, being shot term or long term exposures. First of all, the term insulating material refers to a substance that has the ability to resist electrical energy flow to make a conductor or copper wire safe to touch by human hands for instance. But all these insulating materials will break down at a certain limit if the power is strong enough, so this tells us that there is no such thing as a perfect insulator. This example explained above is one use for an insulating material within the electrical power industry. Insulators serve many advanced purposes and conditions. Be it Arc suppression within circuit breakers or voltage insulation on power lines, or even protective equipment worn by electrical workers. A majority of these insulating materials have been known to cause health hazards to humans and environmental hazards to the environment which will be discussed in a bit more detail further on, and ... • 48. Language Death Essay Main Issues: The way in which our world functions today is a result of colonialization. Language death and linguistic endangerment is woven with colonialization and the history of oppression toward indigenous communities. We cannot speak of language death without first acknowledging the speakers and the systematic oppression that indigenous communities continue struggling to resist. In present time language shifts due to economic incentive of hegemony and the mediating role of language ideologies are two of the most important causes of language death. Language shift and language ideologies that ultimately cause language death are current consequences of colonialization. The death of a language has both of linguistic and cultural consequences to the particular community affected and to the world s diversity as a whole. Languages serve as carries of cultural knowledge, as identity and verbal art, hence when a language is lost cultural resources, identity and verbal art are lost. One of the most important causes of language death is language shifts due to economic incentives of hegemony. A language shift is when people adopt the language of the hegemonic society replacing their mother tongue in both their personal and professional lives (Mithum 1998:182). The shift of language is motivated by the hope for economic prosper as hegemonic languages like English and French dominate the economic market place. This language shift is also understood through the terms of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 49. How To Grow Corn Essay Corn: The Planting Of Growing a crop of corn can be very rewarding. With some hard work and a little bit of luck, it can be very profitable. Planting corn doesn t sound too complicated, but knowing how to do it right can be the difference between losing money and making a profit. To get started planting your field of corn, you will need access to a tractor, a field cultivator, a planter, fertilizer, seed corn and a lot of farm diesel. Of course, you will need to own some farmland or be leasing the farming rights from the landowner. If you are fortunate enough to have farmland with irrigation, it can diminish one of the biggest risks associated with farming. Droughts or dry spells are unforgiving, and no matter how well you prepare the soil, you will need rain or irrigation water. Using good farming practices will ensure greater corn yields and a higher profit margin! Begin by deciding when to start planting in your area. The planting start date should be determined by when ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... To get the first set of rows straight, it helps to set some markers in a straight line from one end of the field to the other as a guide to follow; this will be best with two people. Begin by putting something that you can see from the other end of the field, at the other end of the field, measured out from the edge of the farm to the desired distance. Usually, a five gallon bucket will do. Then drive back towards the planter and set a marker about a hundred yards in front of the tractor, measured out from the edge of the field the same distance as the bucket on the other end. We use cheap paper plates buried about half way down for the markers, they break down quick in the rain and are biodegradable. We can now have someone drive back towards the bucket and stop every couple hundred yards and set a plate in line with the others, the person left at the planter can wave him right or left to help get them aligned as straight as ...
