Health Science Librarians Essay
Librarians have always worked with information, but the question of whether or not librarians
should get involved with big data has not always been an easy one to answer. On the other hand,
since most health care researchers are subject specialists and have limited data science skills, most
librarians in the healthsciences realize they do need to become involved in it. That they have to
provide health care researchers with as much help and information as they can. Consequently, the
real question for them should be exactly how they need to be involved. Health sciences librarians
realize they can fill many roles in health care s use of big data, but since some roles librarians
could performed are already being filled in large institutions... Show more content on

Therefore, librarians need to provide information on how to write such a plan, information about
where researchers can deposit data affordably that works well with new data and old data, and
what are the best practices for sharing their data, including how to get the data ready for ingest
into a repository. Health sciences librarians can also help researchers with labeling and applying
metadata standards to their data sets. For health sciences libraries with limited resources, much of
this information could be provided online using libguides or even web links.
When working with big data researchers are also finding themselves needing information how
to work with visualization tools. Many have never used these tools before and if health sciences
libraries can offer space and training on equipment and software to their researchers then they
will have both access to them and a chance to learn to use them. However, not every health
sciences library will be able to provide equipment and software for them, but most could provide
information on where to find training and possibly a list of local locations with access. In
addition, health sciences libraries could also provide training courses on R and Python directly to
their researchers or information on local or web based courses.
Finally, one of the other major ways that health sciences

Outliers Essay
Outliers Essay
An Outlier is someone who stands out in a group due to their mastery of a certain skill and
because of that they are successful. According to Gladwell not anyone can become successful; it
takes the right circumstances and opportunities. Human s capability seems limitless, and if we put
in the time and hard work we can achieve our goals. We as a society love to think that a person
may become successful and that we all have the same opportunities and chance of succeeding if we
just work hard enough. According to Malcom Gladwell, the author of the book Outlier s these
common beliefs are incorrect and are not the means of a person becoming successful. The main
theme throughout Gladwell s Outlier s is that successful ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This seemingly small advantage in most cases tends to give the older kids an advantage over the
younger players because they get more playing time, get placed on better teams, receive better
coaching, and in turn become more skilled hockey players. Obviously those who go on to succeed
must have innate talent, but that is not the primary factor deciding whether they succeed or fail at
the sport. The primary factor in how good they become at hockey is the better opportunities they
received because of their age. When applying Gladwell s Outlier theory The outliers in a particular
field reached their lofty status through a combination of ability, opportunity, and utterly
arbitrary advantage (37) the birth date of the hockey players serves a crucial role and is just an
arbitrary advantage. The coaches should not place the same expectations on the younger players
or the younger players should be put in a younger league more suitable for them so they too can
be given a chance to become great like those born in the earlier months. Since this doesn t happen
though those born earlier are much more likely to become great, which provides a solid backing
of Gladwell s Outlier theory. The same thing is applicable to the academic field. Children who

Analysis Of The Poem Ode Of Spring By John Keats Essay
In the poem Ode to Autumn by John Keats, my initial thoughts of this work is how the author
does a beautiful job describing the season. The way that he makes his words come to life. The
poem makes you feel as if you are right there in the midst of autumn. As I read through the poem, it
was as if I could inhale the autumn air. I think the thing that I loved most about this piece is the
mere fact that it is my most favorite season of the year. When the poem talks about the songs of
spring, it tells you to think not of them. In other words, this is the season of autumn and it too has
its own songs to sing. We shouldn t rush through this amazing season, but yet slow down and enjoy
each moment that it brings us. The Romantic relationship of nature and soul communicated in one
of two ways. The landscape was, on one hand viewed as an expansion of the human identity,
equipped for sensitivity for man s enthusiastic state. On other hand, nature was viewed as a vehicle
for soul just as man; the breath of God fills both man and the earth (Hanson, 2015). Keats stood out
in the early nineteenth century Romanticism, a development that embraced the sacredness of
emotion and creative energy and privileged the magnificence of the natural world (John Keats, n.d.).
In the attempt of bringing old ways to gain new knowledge John Keats wrote the Romanticism style
poem, Ode to Autumn . With the many literary devices available to the Romantics, poetry was the

India s Ban On Tobacco Advertising
India in 2001 proposed a ban on tobacco advertisement in an effort to curb tobacco use with
adolescents. It was met with sharp criticism from the tobacco industry. However, some saw it as
a great move by the government in looking after the welfare of its citizens. I hope to explore in
the essay each side s voice as well as deal with the myriad of issues the government faced upon the
bans proposal. Lastly I will give my opinion on what position the government should take. One the
main arguments for this proposed ban was that the tobaccoindustry was targeting children. In fact
citing an internal documents from the tobacco industry that referred to 14 to 24 year olds as
their targets (Reynold, 2010). Recognizing this report for India was extremely important. Due to
the increased health problems of smoking by targeting a younger age bracket they would
effectively increase the weight the government had to carry when it comes to providing health
care for its citizens. The government also had in its favor the fact that in all but one case smoking
use by young people had decreased when these bans where put in effect. The government s
argument for banning tobacco ads can be summed up pretty simply. They were trying to watching
out for the safety of their citizens and were working toward the betterment of India. The
government had the advantage of being able to take the moral high road and being able to paint
the tobacco industry as the devil .The Nays in this case were represented

A Long Walk to Water by Linda Sue Park. I think in this book the theme is survival. I know this
because in Salva s story he is just trying to stay alive in the war. This is also the theme in Nya s
story because she fetches water every day just so she and her family doesn t die both characters
exemplify the theme of survival as they fight through the story. Nya South Sudan 2006 2009

Themistocles Oedipus In The Persian Expedition
In The Persian Expedition, Xenophon follows the fate of 10,000 Greek mercenaries as they make
their long and arduous journey from deep in Persian territory back to Greece, their homeland. In
addition to details of the trip, Xenophon discusses some personal qualities of Cyrus and the leaders
of his mercenary s. Themistocles was an Athenian politician from a slightly earlier period who rose
to prominence using his cunning, cleverness, persuasion, and deception. Presented favorably by
Plutarch in The Rise and Fall of Athens: Nine Greek Lives, and critically in The Histories of
Herodotus, Themistocles is not discussed by Xenophon. Although he demonstrated the intelligence

Xenophon s main reason for disliking Menon was his deceitfulness and dishonest nature: The
shortest road to the achievement of his desires lay he thought through false swearing, lying, and
cheating (Xenophon, 2.6). Xenophon also valued the honesty of Cyrus. He would tell no lies to
anyone (Xenophon, 1.9). Themistocles was also deceitful and willing to do whatever was necessary
to survive, as illustrated by his clever trick in Salamis: so he cast around for a counter stroke and hit
upon his celebrated trick Siccinus (Plutarch ,3.12). Even when Themistocles did not lie outright, he
valued his manipulative powers: Themistocles told them that he had brought two gods, persuasion
and compulsion (Plutarch, 3.21). He used his cunning to get his way, threatening to lie to get the
sailors in trouble if they crossed him: but partly by entreaties and partly by the threat that he would
denounce them to the Athenians and make it appear that they had known all along who he was, but
had taken him on board in the first instance for a bribe, he forced them to stand out to sea and reach
the coast of Asia (Plutarch, 3.25). Themistocles, though brilliant and clever, resorted to lying and
manipulation when honesty was not productive enough, in contrast to the truth telling Cyrus,
whom Xenophon

The Complicated Relationship Between The Black And White...
The Complicated Relationship between the Black and White Americans
Amiri Baraka s play the Dutchman is a portrayal about the interactions between the two major
characters Lula and Clay. The two came from different races, whereas Clay is a twenty year old
African American, while Lula on her thirties is a white woman. It all started when Lula had the
courage to approach Clay, accusing the latter intent of staring from the window of a train. In their
conversation, it demonstrates how Lula was trying to manipulate the situation, depicting the
relationship between the two races and the problem about stereotyping. In the play, Lula first
appeared as a beautiful and attractive white woman with an apple at her hand (Baraka, 1).
Somehow, if her character will be interpreted based on Biblical teaching, it appears that she is
more like a temptress like Eve. Although, Lula only met Clay for the first time, but she acted like
knowing everything about the latter. She even mocked and insulted Clay, especially with regards to
his intellect and clothing. Through this portrayal, the Lula was trying to reveal her true nature as a
rude individual, and there is no way Clay could approach her on the same footing.
The Dutchman as a Play
Clearly, the character of Lula represents the White people and their racist attributes. Through her
actions alone, she was trying to show herself as more powerful than Clay.
Meanwhile, the character of Clay is the opposite of Lula, considering that he is an

For this ten minute observation I observed a girl with brown hair, she had bangs across her
forehead and her hair length went along her ears, hardly touched her neck. She was wearing a

When discussing the different battles, campaigns, and military leaders that had a significant
contribution to the outcome of the Civil War, there will be a multitude to choose stemming from
Ulysses S. Grant, The Battle of Gettysburg, etc. One that comes to mind that in essence broke the
will of the Confederacy will be that of William Sherman. Sherman undertook arguably one of the
most destructive and impactful campaigns in United Statesmilitary history, that being in his march
to the sea which drives into the southern heartland and ended until he reached the Atlantic Ocean

The city of Atlanta was a prominent town in the Confederacy, as it saw much of the souths
economic ties run through the town. The city was also a major port for the Confederacy and
was also a one of the main places for trade as it had access to the Atlantic Ocean, which was key
in trading with the English and was also a passage into the Gulf of Mexico and was the gateway
to trade with the nation of Mexico, who supplied a variety of food. In the battle Sherman would
encounter a familiar foe, that being John Bell Hood, who had chased and continued to embarrass
throughout the duration of the war. Sherman had trouble in taking the city of Atlanta as his
strategy of bombarding the city and cutting off the supply lines had little to any effect on the
stronghold. Sherman had made the mistake of undermining the fight of the Confederate troops
who were on their last leg. The taking of the railroads proved to be overwhelming as the
Confederacy had a vastly superior Calvary group, which hindered the plan of cutting off the supply
lines. In order to combat this problem, Sherman would maneuver his troops to a flanking position
and would lead to the capture of one of the railroad station and pushed the Confederate soldiers
back. The capture of Atlanta was a significant factor in determining the

Cool Hand Luke By Stuart Rosenberg
Those inclined to think about religious matters embrace distinctly different images of God such as
in the film Cool Hand Luke Directed by: Stuart Rosenberg, a central component to making the
film what it is, is the subtle use of religious imagery. The way Luke Jackson is presented as a
character, embodies this very likeness to Jesusthrough his actions, speech and posture. The way
Luke starts a bond with the other prisoners is through a boxing match and a poker game. During
the boxing match, Luke gets beaten up by his soon to be right hand Dragline. While playing
poker, he wins the game by bluffing a hand worth nothing and comments that sometimes nothing
can be a real cool hand and also during the poker game is when he attained his nick name Cool
Hand Luke . During his sentence in jail, Luke s family came to visit him so that he could say
good bye to his mother because she was not breathing to well on the account that she smoked a
lot and developed this horrible cough in which she and her family realized that she might not
last until Luke got out of jail. After his mother visits, Luke becomes more optimistic about his
situation and because of this, the other prisoners begin to idolize him. This is where we start
receiving subtle images of Jesus and the 12 disciples because of the way that they all began to
follow him and be his support group. Such as the disciples were to Jesus. One day while working
on the road to Luke s leadership is truly shown, he leads the group

Certainly, health care services in the United States are a controversial topic. In 1900, the child
welfare movement made an impact on public health as well as in child health care. Public health
helped to catch infectious diseases and many other family conditions. Accordingly, the government
established a national public health infrastructure. Indeed, hospitals, medical schools and research

government mandated Early and Periodic Screening for children. Then, the United States
government established the State Children s Insurance Programs (SCHIP). However, more

Lactic Acid Energy System
How much should you rest between sets? In my free weight training program for body building I
will show you how long to rest and why.
Believe it or not, the amount of time that you rest between sets has an effect on your training results.
When you are resting less than two minutes between your sets, you are using the lactic acid
energy system. This is a medium duration energy source and is the primary energy source used in
most body building workouts. If you rest longer than 3 minutes between sets, you are using more
of the ATP PC energy system. This is the most powerful energy system for short bursts of exercise
.
There is one more energy system called the Aerobic Energy System. Generally, this energy system
is used for long duration, low ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The body does not switch from the Lactic Acid Energy System to the ATP PC system at exactly 2
minutes rest between sets. For some people it will be sooner and for some it will be later. Either
way, it is not a sudden change, but rather a gradual changing of the guard with the Aerobic Energy
System helping to bridge the gap between the two.
So what is the best way to manipulate these energy systems for maximum muscle growth? The
answer depends partly on your weight lifting plan, but generally speaking, bodybuilders should
spend most of their training time using the Lactic Acid Energy System. A significant amount of
time should be spent doing heavy weight training with 3 or 4 minutes rest to increase your
strength, and the rest of the time (maybe 70 percent of your training) should be done with rest
periods of 90 to 150 seconds rest between sets.
By training like this, you can build your strength levels during the heavy training with longer rest
periods, and then use that new strength to lift more weight for more reps when you train using the
Lactic Acid Energy System. This will maximize the benefits of each energy system and keep your
body from adapting, which will result in amazing muscle

Argumentative Essay On Mascots
Currently in the NFL, the Washington Redskins are being faced with a staggering controversy:
Should they change they change their mascot as a result of Native Americans viewing it is a racial
discriminatory (Angle 2016)? Dating back to 1933, when the Washington NFL team abandoned the
original title of Braves and adopted Redskins, the debate has since been longstanding (Hylton
2014). Native Americans are challenging the team to rid them, along with all team mascot names
relating to their culture countrywide, of their title, but the mascot names have no negative
connotation and should not be protested against. The controversy relates back to the 1900s when
Native Americans began to feel oppressed and teams began using their titles as mascot (Brady
2016). During this period regulations forbade Native Americans to speak their language, practice
their religions or leave their reservations (Brady 2016). To enforce this, laws were passed to

Effects Of Mongol Rule On China
In breaking down the causations and effects of the Mongols regarding their rule on China during

on China s government is their use of provinces to organize China s cities, specifically with Yunnan.
The Mongols used provinces to systemize the government and appointed governors to each district,
where that governor would take care of the taxes. The reason for this method of organization is that
the Mongols trusted foreigners more than the Chinese, so they appointed their tasks to foreigners
such as the governor of Yunnan. The governor of Yunnan didn t have any major positions, but he
helped develop the trade in his region and promoted Confucian belief which along with the
provincial organization shaped China. An example of a causation for the incorporation of
Confucian belief in government was due to the Mongols

12 Angry Men Film Analysis
12 Angry Men
For many books, details are missed or changed when a movie is made. Though most of the time
this can lead to problems, this is not the case with 12 Angry Men. 12 Angry Men is about 12 Jurors
trying to decide whether a boy is guilty or innocent. Following the closing arguments in a murder
trial, the boy seems undeniably guilty, and likewise, 11 of the jurors start with a vote of guilty. The
only juror standing up for him is juror number 8, Henry Fonda, and the rest of the story follows
how he uses his arguments and convinces the rest of the jurors to vote acquittal. Unlike many other
book movie duos, in this case the director is able to not only retain all important details, he is able
to improve on the book by removing unnecessary details, convey emotion realistically, and
background noise. Firstly, the removal of unnecessary details helps improve the movie when the
dialogue is removed during Juror #10 s rant, and when Juror #7 s anti immigrant personality is
omitted from the movie. When Juror #10 starts talking about that type of people and how life don t
mean as much to them, (Rose 64) in the book the other jurors try to tell him to stop, which conveys
the wrong feeling because it shows they are listening to him. On the other hand, in the movie, they
simply walk to a corner of the room and ignore him, which shows that they don t want to listen and
will continue to ignore him, which actually showed how they felt better than when they tried to talk.

Monsanto Research Paper
WHO IS RESPONSIBLE FOR GMOs?
It has been no secret that one of the biggest contributors to GMO crops is Monsanto. This is the
same company responsible for Saccharin, Aspartame, DDT, Agent Orange, Bovine Growth
Hormone and Glyphosate. In addition, they are also responsible for PCBs (polychlorinated
biphenyls that were used for coolant fluids for electrical transformers, capacitors, and electric

Dark Fantasy Essay
Dark Fantasy is a hip hop song with classic verses and a captivating, expressive chorus similar to
Nas flow. But a more profound analysis illustrates that the song is a metaphor describing that Kanye
West is feeling like he is on top of the world, as a valued idol at the peak of his music career.
However, the larger themes within the song that flows throughout the album implies the
experiencing of dark fantasies, pursuing the American dream, evolving into the monster one would

The British Petroleum Oil Spill and Lack of Response Essay...
The British Petroleum Oil Spill and Lack of Response
Last year, news spread of an oil spill off the Gulf Coast. These events occur periodically and
usually register much media attention. As British Petroleum (BP) executives could not shut off the
crude oil or prevent the damage it caused, people took notice. Millions of dollars in tourism,
commerce and sales were lost. Thousands of wildlife acres and ecosystems were also
compromised. There were more questions than answers.
What BP did to alleviate growing fears made the controversy. They said there were no problems

(Houpe, 2010) Hayward became the face of British Petroleum during the incident, and thus
became the easy target for critics and politicians alike. Haywood appeared to know the situation;
he just did not have any clue on implementing next steps. Think of Hayward as the equivalent of
a headless animal. Without a strategy to locate the leak and cap it, there oil continued to
devastate the land and water in the Gulf. Hayward often looked like someone who are unclear of
the situation and/or how to proceed. That only fueled the problems BP faced and would move
forward on containing the spill and the following follow up. (Luce, 2010) What should have
happened was BP executives, be it Hayward or someone else, proactively come out and said what
happened in the Gulf, what was being done and its progress. That would have cleared many
concerns up front and had everyone on board from the start. Instead, the company looked the other
way. Unfortunately for BP, the spill got deeper and bigger as the days unfolded. That just added to
the mounting troubles for the company. These problems were nearly too numerous to mention.
With many networking and media media tools available, the company did little or nothing to
improve its image in the public s eye. In fact, they harmed themselves further by the way they
conducted themselves. All they did is make them look more like the Keystone Cops than a well run
organization. (Capstick, 2010)

The Attack on Fort Sumter took place on an island located in South Carolina on April 12, 1861.
Following President Abraham Lincoln s presidential election in November 1860, many threats
were brought to Federal troops guarding forts in the South during the secession crisis. The main
purpose of this battle was to guard Charleston Harbor. But the bombarding of the fort was the
climax of a conflict in which a small militia of Union troops in South Carolinafound themselves
isolated when the state seceded from the Union. The Attack on Fort Sumter lasted less than two
days and did not have much significance other than the battle symbolizing both the North and South

that he would begin constructing his forces in the army around Fort Sumter located in Charleston

Water Privatization Essay
Water is just as important as air, it is a basic need for life, ever since the beginning when one is
searching for life, water is the п¬Ѓrst thing to look for, without water there is no life. Everyone
deserves to have access to water.
Yet 1/8th of the worlds population doesn t have access to safe and clean drinking water. Most of
these people are from the developing parts of the world, this translates into 884 million people
without safe and clean drinking water, thats equivalent to the size of north and south America.

However, when the company took over their local wells and informal pumps as well as the
system infrastructure, many consumers were priced out of the market, unable to pay the
increased water rates, which in some case had doubled. To further develop this, the world bank
forced Cochabamba and El Alto s water to be privatised because they said if they didn t, they will
cut off Bolivia s water development loans completely. This explains that once water services are
privatised, very little can be done to ensure that the company will work in the best interest of the
community. Furthermore, if a community is dissatisfied with the performance of the company,
buying back the water rights is a very difficult and costly proposition. Again the prime directive
of the water companies is to minimise profits, not to protect consumers
Water privatisation can also have good affects on the developing parts of the world. This is
because in developing countries their public water facilities and infrastructures are not up to date,
damaged and/or not working properly. By privatising water in these underdeveloped regions, this
will ensure that their water facilities are running adequately because people are paying for it. It will
also create revenue through taxes for the government.
However, around 40% of people in the developing world are living in poverty, they are unable to

Why Some Birds Would Survive And Reproduce More On Certain...
1.Explain why some bird types would survive and reproduce more on certain islands.
Some bird types would survive and reproduce more on certain islands because it depends on the
climate and the environment. Also, it depends on the types of beaks that birds have and the food
that is available in that Island. In other words, birds can only survive and reproduce more if they
are adapted to that environment like the climate in that island and their specific type of food/habitat
they need to survive.
2. How would this affect the appearance of future generations of birds on these islands?

Impact Of Imperialism In Korea
Japanese Imperialism in Korea and Korea s Police/Military Era As I stood on a mountain pass,

things while colonizing Korea. Imperialism is when another nation forcefully takes control of
another nation. In the 19th and 20th century, many European powers were trying to get colonies in
countries in Africa and Asia. In order to do so, they needed to imperialize countries. Japan was the
first Asian nation to defeat western countries trying to imperialize them. During the 1900 s, Japan...

Gulf Of Tonkin Research Paper
Many people believe that the Gulf of Tonkin Incident is responsible for increased U.S. escalation in
Vietnam. President Johnson and his administration claimed that the incident involved unprovoked
attacks on U.S. destroyers (Herring, 165). People had questioned what had actually occurred even
back then. I believe the Johnson administration was looking for a reason to escalate American
involvement and that the Gulf of Tonkin Incident provided the perfect opportunity. American policy
in South Vietnam was not as effective as many had thought. I do not believe the Gulf of Tonkin
Incident itself incited U.S. escalation but rather the erroneous information about what had actually
occurred. Following the first attack on U.S. ships by North Vietnamese patrol boats, the
Whitehouse claimed that a second attack had occurred, ordered airstrikes in retaliation, and then
used the incident to justify the president s use of U.S. military forces in Vietnam (Duiker, 165).
This would seem reasonable on the surface because not many people were aware of what had

Portraits During The Renaissance
During the Renaissance, portraits were very powerful to the Italian culture and society because
they highlighted the development of the individual. This is important because the Renaissance
focused on classical learning and art, rather than just religious figures which can be portrayed
through different portraits showing actual living people and represents humanism. Portraits in the
early 15th century were meant to be represented as the ideal republican citizen , and were also
made to honor the dead and be given as wedding gifts. People giving others portraits as gifts was a
very popular thing to do back then, especially to friends or family members because it was a way to

be adequate physician supply, but it may not be distributed evenly to each place. Therefore, I
believe that some appropriate interventions and policies should be considered for balancing the
supply. One of the reasons why I think physician supply is an important concept is that it is

A Realist Look
The End of St. Petersburg: A Realist Look
Two years ago, I made my first film. It was called Freelance and I wanted to make a more
realistic looking film. I don t like quick cutting or jump cuts. So, I wanted to have longer takes,
pans, and medium shots. I would only use close ups only when it was necessary. I always felt that
having too much cutting in a film, jump cuts, and too many close ups took away from the viewer. I
felt that it wouldn t leave any room for development and give the audience an unsatisfied
understanding of the characters development. Too much cutting would still allow you to watch the
whole story, however it would not let you question any motives or even allow you breathing space
to compile all the things you ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is where they manipulate the audience and thus preventing them from formulating their own
meanings. As for Realism, the materials in reality should be able to speak for themselves. Realists
strive mainly for allowing the audience to interpret their work in their own ways, by allowing
abstractions, questions, or interpretations to come out. This is accomplished by intentional
ambiguity and not emphasizing any specific aspects of their film. Realists achieve and rely heavily
on cinematography, not editing, or doing so as little as possible. As for cinematography, that
includes long shots, wide screen, lengthy takes, deep focus, panning, craning, or tilting.
Realists allow the audience to make observations that they should make and opinions instead of
being guided by a filmmaker s desired reactions. However, a director should put his personal
vision and beliefs into his or her film but let the people decide what they think. As for me and
my film Freelance, I wanted to leave questions about the people that you see throughout the film.
Was there a back story? Do you feel like the character had some personality? And I left an open
ending to my film. I used everything that a realist would have for the cinematography. I left out
as much as I could for editing. I look back at the 1920s and 1930s films and I look at Vsevolod

Brazil and Privatization Essay
Brazil and Privatization The earliest inhabitants of Brazil were the Indians. However, the country s
recorded history begins with the arrival of the Portuguese in 1500. The Portuguese sailor Pedro
Alvares Cabral visited the continent we call South America, eight years after Columbus arrived in
America. Portuguesesettlers followed, calling the new colony Brazil, after the brazilwood tree that
they extracted red dye from. The Portuguese did not bring prosperity and progress to the Indians.
Instead, they unintentionally infected and killed thousands of Indians with diseases such as
measles and smallpox. The growing number of settlers spurred the exploration of Brazil.

Their most famous sculptor is also one of the world s most remarkable artists, Antonio Francisco
Lisboa. He became known as Aleijadinho, the little cripple, when a disease paralyzed his hands.
He tied a hammer and a chisel to his wrists and continued to work. Brazilians also love sports.
There is 8,000 sports clubs all over the country. They enjoy water sports, basketball, volleyball,
tennis, and boxing. But none of these sports rivals their all time favorite, soccer. Brazilian s call it
futebol. Scoring a goal in the world s soccer championship is the dream of every Brazilian boy.
Language
Brazil s national language is Portuguese. Like the United States English differs from England,
Brazil also developed a character of its own. The difference is mostly from the influence of Brazil s
Indians. Other influences are attributed to the African heritage and German, Italian and Spanish
immigrants. Their alphabet has three fewer letters than English, missing k , w , and y.
Political Makeup During Brazil s 20 years of military rule, the army had almost complete control
and congress had little power. Since 1985 the government has been in the hands of civilians. Brazil
is a federal republic under the leadership of a president whose powers are similar to those of the
president of the United States. A vice president and the cabinet consisting of state ministers support
the president. The government is divided into

The Great Gatsby Rhetorical Analysis
Paragraph 1 One of the main characters in the book Fiona, grows and changes a lot throughout
the book. A lot of things change with in Fi, but something that changes quite a lot is the way she
speaks. At the start of the book Fi used to speak quite formally oh gosh Fi was the only person I
knew under sixty who said gosh but as the story goes on Fi starts to speak more like the others
No! I love it. Greek is sexy . Sexy sounded so funny coming from Fi. She was so well brought up
she didn t normally use words like that this is because she is spending a lot of time and has

Quotation:
He d come down with a fever and they lay in the woods like fugitives. Nowhere to build a fire.
Nowhere safe. The boy sat in the leaves watching him. His eyes brimming. Are you going to die,
Papa? he said. Are you going to die?
No. I m just sick.
I m really scared.
I know. It s all right. I m going to get better. You ll see.
His dreams brightened. The vanished world returned (186 187).
Response:
(CL) The last prediction made, foresaw an early death for the man leaving the boy on his own.
The man tells his son earlier in the story that there is nothing wrong with having nightmares, for
if they are having good dreams it means they have given up and he doesn t want the boy to give
up. The man s dreams are becoming brighter and the world before the fire is coming into his head.
The man is giving up. The prediction made earlier is coming true. (S) Cormac McCarthy
doesn t use quotes at all in this novel which implies a world so inhuman, hopeless and desiccated
there is no need or use of this punctuation. This style is very apparent in this quote as the man
continues to give up and becomes fatigued. Also, McCarthy adding the fact that the man s dreams
are becoming more lighthearted and content right after it is revealed he his becoming sick adds a
large sense of foreshadowing.

The Leading Cause Of Rumors In The Crucible By Arthur Miller
The Truth About Rumors
Rumors are among the many dilemmas afflicting the human condition. They eat away at society
like a parasite, undermining morality and infecting good intentions with malice and decay. Despite
the fact that rumors are not always accurate, they still spread like wildfires. Rumors are the leading
cause of negativity in society. In Arthur Miller s work, The Crucible, rumors spur mass hysteria in
the colonial town of Salem by changing people s views of a situation, undermining the self
confidence of victims, and inspiring fear among friends and neighbors.
Likewise, a person s perception and viewpoint drastically changes from rumors whether the
rumors are true or not. People often tend to believe everything they hear, which causes society to
conclude that the rumor is true without knowing all the facts. In the Crucible, a character named
Parris illustrates this by saying, She may be. And yet it has troubled me that you are now seven
month out of their house, and in all this time no other family has ever called for your service
(Miller 1 26). In addition to their assumptions, the gossip itself leads to the false accusations of
Abigail. No matter how much gossip gets into the people of Salem s head they would never choose
to talk to the person, just about them (Decter). Jumping to conclusions causes people to judge
others unfairly and without merit causing physical and emotional damage to anyone affected by the
untruth of the rumor. This is an identical

Mandatory Release In Prison Essay
A prison is a facility suited for behavior change as a result of breaking the legal rules that govern
a region. It involves denying of freedom for a certain period of time as per the ruling given by
the judge under a court of law. Over the years, handling of prisoners or inmates has changed. A
number of better legal processes are on the rise in order to ensure the rights of the individual are
observed before he/she is detained. Depending on the crime committed, jurisdictions happen to
vary in one way or another.Consequently; suspects are in some situations kept behind bars or
released on bond awaiting trial. These are some of the processes that have evolved over time.
Clinging onto ( PrisonRehabilitation , 2016), prisons draw back as far as the late 18th century. The

Probation is also another form of sentencing any persons with any illegal action. According to (

How Did Benedict Arnold Win The Patriots
Benedict Arnold was a patriot after all. He fought more battles for the patriots than for Great
Britain. He served the 13 colonies for longer than he served Great Britain. And he did defect to
Great Britain, but not for the reasons that we think.
At the end of his military career for the Patriots, Benedict was a Major General. He fought and
won 8 battles for the patriots. Of which included Fort Ticonderoga, West Point, and Quebec City.
Benedict also planned many of the attacks for the patriots. He only fought in 3 battles for Great
Britain.
His military career started in March 1775, in Connecticut where he was elected captain of the
militia. He served the patriots for 5 more years after that, fighting in the battles of Quebec, The
Cedars, Valcour Island, Ridgefield, and Saratoga. Also he marched 1,100 men from Cambridge to
Quebec. Although he did serve the British, he only served them for one year, from 1780 1781....

He wasn t getting enough money or recognition in the continental army. Other civilian leaders were
getting more recognition than he was, even though he served the patriots faithfully for five years.
Arnold did accomplish more for the British than the patriots though. He won 3 battles and had the
rank of Brigadier General, which is one rank below major general, in one year. In the end Benedict
Arnold did almost cost war.
So who is Benedict Arnold? A patriot? A traitor? We need to stop classifying Benedict as a traitor
and start classifying him as a man who made mistakes. But at the end of the day his patriotism
amounts to more than his

The Artist, Hans Rudi Giger and The Birth Machine
HR GIGER
The Swiss surrealist, Hans Rudi Giger is one of the few artists worldwide who does not and doesn t
to sign his works of art. He is considered the modern day master of the macabre and his works are
recognisable at first glance.
The motifs of birth, death and sex are the predominant subjects of Giger s art. From the beginning
of his career, powerful elements, seemingly inspired by repressed memories of a traumatic birth,
appeared from his talented hand. He willingly acknowledges that themes of birth trauma appear in
his works.
By 1966 he had begun producing a series of shaft pictures which had their primary origins in
dreams. Bottomless shafts, undoubtedly representative of the birth canal, surrounded by a series of
steep banister less stairways the embodying fear and danger predominated these pictures. Other
works produced at that time had birth allusions, and included underground cities as well as buried
bio mechanoids. These humanoid beings combined features of humans with mechanical equipment.
Continuing the birth trauma passage theme in his art, Giger later became engrossed with
passages. These pictures were the result of a series of dreams. He writes, in these I usually found

The Promethic Illness
Circling a yellow wallpapered room, sticking your head in the oven, running wildly around town in
the nude; these are the visions we associate with when the word madness comes to mind.
Entering the taboo world of mental illness, stigmatized as the crazy and psychotic by decades of
misunderstanding, Marya Hornbacher takes a step towards reversing those damages by telling her
own story in a memoir titled Madness: A Bipolar Life, in an attempt to shed some light and insight
on the world of manic depression. She details her struggle with the disease that spawned multitudes
of problems for her all throughout her life. To examine how she... Show more content on

She depicted this through creating coherent sentences with a focus, content wise and structural
wise, sentences with less comma splices. For example the author wrote: I put myself back in
Fung 3 my chair, as if I am a little kid who refuses to eat her peas and is not allowed to leave her
place until she finishes every last bite. I take a swig, set the bottle down, and study it as the liquor
burns a path down my throat (124). The sentences are noticeably shorter with no manipulated
structure for emphasis, per say contrary to how she portrayed her manic thought. In addition her
focus was much more reigned in for she wasn t speeding through unrelated topics and stringing
them together into a run on sentence. To speculate, her sentences focused solely on her immediate
surroundings, she wrote of sitting in her chair and taking a drink out of her bottle as she described
how it felt going down rather than jittering on going up and down, describing the sky, then the land
and back again (122). Toying with sentence structure, Marya successfully reproduced the pace of
her mental state into her writing.
To illuminate how drastic her condition was, the author employed juxtaposition to emphasize the
mania. Using a system of extreme contrariety, she effectively exemplified the magnitude of her
mental state; the low to dramatize the high. In the previous

The Devildogs Quotes With Page Numbers
As I read through the beginning of the book, I was continuously vexed by how careless Julio and
Romiette behaved around gangs. By analyzing the pair s actions, we can infer that they don t see
The Devildogs as a serious threat. This excerpt is a magnificent example of that. This passage
describes how Julio and Romiette respond to a potentially dangerous situation with careless
actions. The duo is stared down by potentially dangerous gang members, and they reply by loudly
dancing on the table. Not only would common sense tell them this is not a good idea, but also the
fact that Julio moved away from Texas to escape gangs. You would think that these combined
factors would encourage Romiette and especially Julio to take gangs as a serious threat.... Show

The plot to High School Musical is that the male main character, Troy, meets the female main
character, Gabriella, at a New Years party. During the holiday break, Gabrielle moves to Troy s
school district, and they see each other in the hall when school starts again. Troy and Gabriella
are thrilled, but there s a catch. Troy is a jock, who plays baseball, and Gabriella is a brainiac,
who s trying to start fresh. Together they fall in love and find a mutual love of theater.
Consequently, Sharpay and Ryan, who are consistently given the lead roles, feel threatened.
They try to break up Troy and Gabriella while the brainiacs and the basketball team cooks up a
plan to do the same. In the end, Troy and Gabriella end up together, and everyone else is ok with
it. Add some predictable plot twists, and a few cheesy musical numbers and you have High
School Musical! Highschool Musical sounds exceedingly similar to Romiette and Julio. People are
trying to break up the main couple, but they push through and stay together anyway. There are
multiple other stories with similar plot lines, such as Cinderella. I hope that the story ends well for
Romiette and Julio just like it did for so many other

Persuasive Essay On Honey Bees
For every one out of three bites we take, it is due to the work of the honey bees. Many of the
foods such as fruits require pollination from a pollinator to be produced. As well as fruits, there
are also vegetables, nuts, seeds, fiber, and hay (Hoyt, 10). All essential to the world and all must
be pollinated. The little insects play a huge role in maintaining natural plant communities and
ensuring production of seeds in most flowering plants. In the United Kingdom, honey bees
create an additional crop value of 165 million every year, with no additional cost to farmers
(Gross, 2). With the hundreds of species of bees, they are the world s leading pollinators. It is
only now that we see that we have taken pollination for granted. Praising pollination as one of
nature s free services. It is not one of the factors that are considered when looking at the
agricultural possibilities of a given farm area, such as water, fertilizers, or pesticides (Hoyt, 13).
All around the world, there have been years recorded where the honey bees just suddenly
disappear. It is due to all of the agricultural and climate change. Honey bees should not travel too
far from their hive, but recently it is not possible for them to remain close and collect nectar as
well because of the decline of plants they can pollinate (Hoyt, 13). Their voyaging distances have
increased and not every honey bee makes it back to the hive due to the long distances they now
have to travel (Hoyt, 15). To decrease the distance they travel, humans must plant more gardens
for the honey bees to pollinate instead of allowing them to venture out blindly in search of the
nectar they need (Hoyt, 16). If Colony Collapse Disorder were to prevail over the honey bees, it
would spell disaster for the honey business as well as our entire food population. One in ten
hives suffers from Colony Collapse Disorder (Calabro, 8). The good news is that Colony
Collapse Disorder has been in decline over recent years. Some researchers even say that the
endangerment of honey bees is a false case. There are statistics that show that many of the foods
that honey bees are responsible for pollinating such as apples and almonds have actually increased
over the years (Calabro, 8). If the food

Organization Overview J. Willard Marriott and Alice, his wife, started their entrepreneurship in
1927 by opening an A W root beer stand with nine seats in Washington D.C. (Marriott, 2017).
Seizing an opportunity, the Marriott s decided to diversify the A W root beer menu by
incorporating hot food items, thus creating Hot Shoppes. When the business strategy called for
expansion in 1928, two additional Hot Shoppes opened creating the first East Coast drive in
(Marriott, 2017). Concentrating on other areas of development, Hot Shoppes delivered boxed
lunches to the Hoover Airport in Washington D.C. in 1937. During the mid 1960s, Hot Shoppes
reached its pinnacle with approximately 75 stores in roughly a dozen states (Ambrose, 1999).
Changing times caused the Marriott to re examine the restaurant strategy and realized that they
should sell off the profitable, slow growing family restaurant that included the Roy Rogers Family
Restaurants and Bob s Big Boy (Ambrose, 1999). Sadly, the last Hot Shoppes closed in December
of 1999, which ended the Marriott restaurant experience. However, long before Hot Shoppes closed,
the couple discerns that the hospitality industry is the new corporate focus. The Marriott s opened

  • 2. Health Science Librarians Essay Librarians have always worked with information, but the question of whether or not librarians should get involved with big data has not always been an easy one to answer. On the other hand, since most health care researchers are subject specialists and have limited data science skills, most librarians in the healthsciences realize they do need to become involved in it. That they have to provide health care researchers with as much help and information as they can. Consequently, the real question for them should be exactly how they need to be involved. Health sciences librarians realize they can fill many roles in health care s use of big data, but since some roles librarians could performed are already being filled in large institutions... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Therefore, librarians need to provide information on how to write such a plan, information about where researchers can deposit data affordably that works well with new data and old data, and what are the best practices for sharing their data, including how to get the data ready for ingest into a repository. Health sciences librarians can also help researchers with labeling and applying metadata standards to their data sets. For health sciences libraries with limited resources, much of this information could be provided online using libguides or even web links. When working with big data researchers are also finding themselves needing information how to work with visualization tools. Many have never used these tools before and if health sciences libraries can offer space and training on equipment and software to their researchers then they will have both access to them and a chance to learn to use them. However, not every health sciences library will be able to provide equipment and software for them, but most could provide information on where to find training and possibly a list of local locations with access. In addition, health sciences libraries could also provide training courses on R and Python directly to their researchers or information on local or web based courses. Finally, one of the other major ways that health sciences ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Outliers Essay Outliers Essay An Outlier is someone who stands out in a group due to their mastery of a certain skill and because of that they are successful. According to Gladwell not anyone can become successful; it takes the right circumstances and opportunities. Human s capability seems limitless, and if we put in the time and hard work we can achieve our goals. We as a society love to think that a person may become successful and that we all have the same opportunities and chance of succeeding if we just work hard enough. According to Malcom Gladwell, the author of the book Outlier s these common beliefs are incorrect and are not the means of a person becoming successful. The main theme throughout Gladwell s Outlier s is that successful ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This seemingly small advantage in most cases tends to give the older kids an advantage over the younger players because they get more playing time, get placed on better teams, receive better coaching, and in turn become more skilled hockey players. Obviously those who go on to succeed must have innate talent, but that is not the primary factor deciding whether they succeed or fail at the sport. The primary factor in how good they become at hockey is the better opportunities they received because of their age. When applying Gladwell s Outlier theory The outliers in a particular field reached their lofty status through a combination of ability, opportunity, and utterly arbitrary advantage (37) the birth date of the hockey players serves a crucial role and is just an arbitrary advantage. The coaches should not place the same expectations on the younger players or the younger players should be put in a younger league more suitable for them so they too can be given a chance to become great like those born in the earlier months. Since this doesn t happen though those born earlier are much more likely to become great, which provides a solid backing of Gladwell s Outlier theory. The same thing is applicable to the academic field. Children who come from a family with more money tend to be given more opportunities early on such as placement ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Analysis Of The Poem Ode Of Spring By John Keats Essay In the poem Ode to Autumn by John Keats, my initial thoughts of this work is how the author does a beautiful job describing the season. The way that he makes his words come to life. The poem makes you feel as if you are right there in the midst of autumn. As I read through the poem, it was as if I could inhale the autumn air. I think the thing that I loved most about this piece is the mere fact that it is my most favorite season of the year. When the poem talks about the songs of spring, it tells you to think not of them. In other words, this is the season of autumn and it too has its own songs to sing. We shouldn t rush through this amazing season, but yet slow down and enjoy each moment that it brings us. The Romantic relationship of nature and soul communicated in one of two ways. The landscape was, on one hand viewed as an expansion of the human identity, equipped for sensitivity for man s enthusiastic state. On other hand, nature was viewed as a vehicle for soul just as man; the breath of God fills both man and the earth (Hanson, 2015). Keats stood out in the early nineteenth century Romanticism, a development that embraced the sacredness of emotion and creative energy and privileged the magnificence of the natural world (John Keats, n.d.). In the attempt of bringing old ways to gain new knowledge John Keats wrote the Romanticism style poem, Ode to Autumn . With the many literary devices available to the Romantics, poetry was the most favored (Keats, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. India s Ban On Tobacco Advertising India in 2001 proposed a ban on tobacco advertisement in an effort to curb tobacco use with adolescents. It was met with sharp criticism from the tobacco industry. However, some saw it as a great move by the government in looking after the welfare of its citizens. I hope to explore in the essay each side s voice as well as deal with the myriad of issues the government faced upon the bans proposal. Lastly I will give my opinion on what position the government should take. One the main arguments for this proposed ban was that the tobaccoindustry was targeting children. In fact citing an internal documents from the tobacco industry that referred to 14 to 24 year olds as their targets (Reynold, 2010). Recognizing this report for India was extremely important. Due to the increased health problems of smoking by targeting a younger age bracket they would effectively increase the weight the government had to carry when it comes to providing health care for its citizens. The government also had in its favor the fact that in all but one case smoking use by young people had decreased when these bans where put in effect. The government s argument for banning tobacco ads can be summed up pretty simply. They were trying to watching out for the safety of their citizens and were working toward the betterment of India. The government had the advantage of being able to take the moral high road and being able to paint the tobacco industry as the devil .The Nays in this case were represented ... • 7. Long Walk To Water Theme A Long Walk to Water by Linda Sue Park. I think in this book the theme is survival. I know this because in Salva s story he is just trying to stay alive in the war. • 8. Themistocles Oedipus In The Persian Expedition In The Persian Expedition, Xenophon follows the fate of 10,000 Greek mercenaries as they make their long and arduous journey from deep in Persian territory back to Greece, their homeland. In addition to details of the trip, Xenophon discusses some personal qualities of Cyrus and the leaders of his mercenary s. Themistocles was an Athenian politician from a slightly earlier period who rose to prominence using his cunning, cleverness, persuasion, and deception. Presented favorably by Plutarch in The Rise and Fall of Athens: Nine Greek Lives, and critically in The Histories of Herodotus, Themistocles is not discussed by Xenophon. Xenophon s main reason for disliking Menon was his deceitfulness and dishonest nature: The shortest road to the achievement of his desires lay he thought through false swearing, lying, and cheating (Xenophon, 2.6). Xenophon also valued the honesty of Cyrus. He would tell no lies to anyone (Xenophon, 1.9). Themistocles was also deceitful and willing to do whatever was necessary to survive, as illustrated by his clever trick in Salamis: so he cast around for a counter stroke and hit upon his celebrated trick Siccinus (Plutarch ,3.12). Even when Themistocles did not lie outright, he valued his manipulative powers: Themistocles told them that he had brought two gods, persuasion and compulsion (Plutarch, 3.21). He used his cunning to get his way, threatening to lie to get the sailors in trouble if they crossed him: but partly by entreaties and partly by the threat that he would denounce them to the Athenians and make it appear that they had known all along who he was, but had taken him on board in the first instance for a bribe, he forced them to stand out to sea and reach the coast of Asia (Plutarch, 3.25). Themistocles, though brilliant and clever, resorted to lying and manipulation when honesty was not productive enough, in contrast to the truth telling Cyrus, whom Xenophon ... • 9. The Complicated Relationship Between The Black And White... The Complicated Relationship between the Black and White Americans Amiri Baraka s play the Dutchman is a portrayal about the interactions between the two major characters Lula and Clay. The two came from different races, whereas Clay is a twenty year old African American, while Lula on her thirties is a white woman. It all started when Lula had the courage to approach Clay, accusing the latter intent of staring from the window of a train. In their conversation, it demonstrates how Lula was trying to manipulate the situation, depicting the relationship between the two races and the problem about stereotyping. In the play, Lula first appeared as a beautiful and attractive white woman with an apple at her hand (Baraka, 1). Somehow, if her character will be interpreted based on Biblical teaching, it appears that she is more like a temptress like Eve. Although, Lula only met Clay for the first time, but she acted like knowing everything about the latter. She even mocked and insulted Clay, especially with regards to his intellect and clothing. Through this portrayal, the Lula was trying to reveal her true nature as a rude individual, and there is no way Clay could approach her on the same footing. The Dutchman as a Play Clearly, the character of Lula represents the White people and their racist attributes. Through her actions alone, she was trying to show herself as more powerful than Clay. Sherman Dbq When discussing the different battles, campaigns, and military leaders that had a significant contribution to the outcome of the Civil War, there will be a multitude to choose stemming from Ulysses S. Grant, The Battle of Gettysburg, etc. One that comes to mind that in essence broke the will of the Confederacy will be that of William Sherman. Sherman undertook arguably one of the most destructive and impactful campaigns in United Statesmilitary history, that being in his march to the sea which drives into the southern heartland and ended until he reached the Atlantic Ocean just of the coast of Savannah, Georgia. The city of Atlanta was a prominent town in the Confederacy, as it saw much of the souths economic ties run through the town. The city was also a major port for the Confederacy and was also a one of the main places for trade as it had access to the Atlantic Ocean, which was key in trading with the English and was also a passage into the Gulf of Mexico and was the gateway to trade with the nation of Mexico, who supplied a variety of food. In the battle Sherman would encounter a familiar foe, that being John Bell Hood, who had chased and continued to embarrass throughout the duration of the war. Sherman had trouble in taking the city of Atlanta as his strategy of bombarding the city and cutting off the supply lines had little to any effect on the stronghold. Sherman had made the mistake of undermining the fight of the Confederate troops who were on their last leg. The taking of the railroads proved to be overwhelming as the Confederacy had a vastly superior Calvary group, which hindered the plan of cutting off the supply lines. • 14. Cool Hand Luke By Stuart Rosenberg Those inclined to think about religious matters embrace distinctly different images of God such as in the film Cool Hand Luke Directed by: Stuart Rosenberg, a central component to making the film what it is, is the subtle use of religious imagery. The way Luke Jackson is presented as a character, embodies this very likeness to Jesusthrough his actions, speech and posture. The way Luke starts a bond with the other prisoners is through a boxing match and a poker game. During the boxing match, Luke gets beaten up by his soon to be right hand Dragline. While playing poker, he wins the game by bluffing a hand worth nothing and comments that sometimes nothing can be a real cool hand and also during the poker game is when he attained his nick name Cool Hand Luke . During his sentence in jail, Luke s family came to visit him so that he could say good bye to his mother because she was not breathing to well on the account that she smoked a lot and developed this horrible cough in which she and her family realized that she might not last until Luke got out of jail. After his mother visits, Luke becomes more optimistic about his situation and because of this, the other prisoners begin to idolize him. This is where we start receiving subtle images of Jesus and the 12 disciples because of the way that they all began to follow him and be his support group. Such as the disciples were to Jesus. One day while working on the road to Luke s leadership is truly shown, he leads the group ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Believe it or not, the amount of time that you rest between sets has an effect on your training results. When you are resting less than two minutes between your sets, you are using the lactic acid energy system. This is a medium duration energy source and is the primary energy source used in most body building workouts. So what is the best way to manipulate these energy systems for maximum muscle growth? The answer depends partly on your weight lifting plan, but generally speaking, bodybuilders should spend most of their training time using the Lactic Acid Energy System. A significant amount of time should be spent doing heavy weight training with 3 or 4 minutes rest to increase your strength, and the rest of the time (maybe 70 percent of your training) should be done with rest periods of 90 to 150 seconds rest between sets. By training like this, you can build your strength levels during the heavy training with longer rest periods, and then use that new strength to lift more weight for more reps when you train using the Lactic Acid Energy System. Argumentative Essay On Mascots Currently in the NFL, the Washington Redskins are being faced with a staggering controversy: Should they change they change their mascot as a result of Native Americans viewing it is a racial discriminatory (Angle 2016)? Dating back to 1933, when the Washington NFL team abandoned the original title of Braves and adopted Redskins, the debate has since been longstanding (Hylton 2014). Native Americans are challenging the team to rid them, along with all team mascot names relating to their culture countrywide, of their title, but the mascot names have no negative connotation and should not be protested against. The controversy relates back to the 1900s when Native Americans began to feel oppressed and teams began using their titles as mascot (Brady 2016). An example of an impact by the Mongols on Chinese rule is the negative influences of tax farming on Chinese economy. Another example of a causation of Mongol rule on Chinais the of tax farming systems in order to improve revenue in the area. China during Mongol domination, incorporated philosophy and organization into the government, which helped it shape their cultural and political outlook. An example of an impact of Mongol rule on China s government is their use of provinces to organize China s cities, specifically with Yunnan. The Mongols used provinces to systemize the government and appointed governors to each district, where that governor would take care of the taxes. The reason for this method of organization is that the Mongols trusted foreigners more than the Chinese, so they appointed their tasks to foreigners such as the governor of Yunnan. • 22. 12 Angry Men Film Analysis 12 Angry Men For many books, details are missed or changed when a movie is made. Though most of the time this can lead to problems, this is not the case with 12 Angry Men. 12 Angry Men is about 12 Jurors trying to decide whether a boy is guilty or innocent. Following the closing arguments in a murder trial, the boy seems undeniably guilty, and likewise, 11 of the jurors start with a vote of guilty. The only juror standing up for him is juror number 8, Henry Fonda, and the rest of the story follows how he uses his arguments and convinces the rest of the jurors to vote acquittal. Unlike many other book movie duos, in this case the director is able to not only retain all important details, he is able to improve on the book by removing unnecessary details, convey emotion realistically, and background noise. Firstly, the removal of unnecessary details helps improve the movie when the dialogue is removed during Juror #10 s rant, and when Juror #7 s anti immigrant personality is omitted from the movie. When Juror #10 starts talking about that type of people and how life don t mean as much to them, (Rose 64) in the book the other jurors try to tell him to stop, which conveys the wrong feeling because it shows they are listening to him. On the other hand, in the movie, they simply walk to a corner of the room and ignore him, which shows that they don t want to listen and will continue to ignore him, which actually showed how they felt better than when they tried to talk. ... President Johnson and his administration claimed that the incident involved unprovoked attacks on U.S. destroyers (Herring, 165). People had questioned what had actually occurred even back then. I believe the Johnson administration was looking for a reason to escalate American involvement and that the Gulf of Tonkin Incident provided the perfect opportunity. American policy in South Vietnam was not as effective as many had thought. I do not believe the Gulf of Tonkin Incident itself incited U.S. escalation but rather the erroneous information about what had actually occurred. This would seem reasonable on the surface because not many people were aware of what had actually occurred during the incident. This is accomplished by intentional ambiguity and not emphasizing any specific aspects of their film. They eat away at society like a parasite, undermining morality and infecting good intentions with malice and decay. Despite the fact that rumors are not always accurate, they still spread like wildfires. Rumors are the leading cause of negativity in society. In Arthur Miller s work, The Crucible, rumors spur mass hysteria in the colonial town of Salem by changing people s views of a situation, undermining the self confidence of victims, and inspiring fear among friends and neighbors. Likewise, a person s perception and viewpoint drastically changes from rumors whether the rumors are true or not. People often tend to believe everything they hear, which causes society to conclude that the rumor is true without knowing all the facts. In the Crucible, a character named Parris illustrates this by saying, She may be. And yet it has troubled me that you are now seven month out of their house, and in all this time no other family has ever called for your service (Miller 1 26). In addition to their assumptions, the gossip itself leads to the false accusations of Abigail. No matter how much gossip gets into the people of Salem s head they would never choose to talk to the person, just about them (Decter). Many of the foods such as fruits require pollination from a pollinator to be produced. As well as fruits, there are also vegetables, nuts, seeds, fiber, and hay (Hoyt, 10). All essential to the world and all must be pollinated. The little insects play a huge role in maintaining natural plant communities and ensuring production of seeds in most flowering plants. In the United Kingdom, honey bees create an additional crop value of 165 million every year, with no additional cost to farmers (Gross, 2). With the hundreds of species of bees, they are the world s leading pollinators. It is only now that we see that we have taken pollination for granted. Praising pollination as one of nature s free services. It is not one of the factors that are considered when looking at the agricultural possibilities of a given farm area, such as water, fertilizers, or pesticides (Hoyt, 13). All around the world, there have been years recorded where the honey bees just suddenly disappear. It is due to all of the agricultural and climate change. Honey bees should not travel too far from their hive, but recently it is not possible for them to remain close and collect nectar as well because of the decline of plants they can pollinate (Hoyt, 13). Their voyaging distances have increased and not every honey bee makes it back to the hive due to the long distances they now have to travel (Hoyt, 15). To decrease the distance they travel, humans must plant more gardens for the honey bees to pollinate instead of allowing them to venture out blindly in search of the nectar they need (Hoyt, 16). If Colony Collapse Disorder were to prevail over the honey bees, it would spell disaster for the honey business as well as our entire food population. One in ten hives suffers from Colony Collapse Disorder (Calabro, 8). The good news is that Colony Collapse Disorder has been in decline over recent years.
