The document proposes a low-cost, wireless remote health monitoring system using sensors to measure vital signs like temperature, heart rate, blood pressure, and lung capacity. The sensor data is sent to a monitoring system via wireless communication networks and the Internet of Things (IoT), allowing doctors to remotely monitor patients and reducing the need for frequent in-person visits. The proposed system aims to make healthcare more accessible and affordable for chronic disease patients.
Now-a-days, a growing number of people in a developing countries like India forces to look for new solutions for the continuous monitoring of health check-up. It has become a necessity to visit hospitals frequently for doctor’s consultation, which has become financially related and a time consuming process. To overcome this situation, we propose a design to monitor the patient’s health conditions such as heart beat, temperature, ECG and BP and send the message to guardian using GSM. In the recent development of internet of things(IoT) makes all objects interconnected and been recognized as the next technical revolution. Patient monitoring is one of the IoT application to monitor the patient health status. Internet of things makes medical equipments more efficient by allowing real time monitoring of health. Using IoT doctor can continuously monitor the patient’s on his smart phone and also the patient history will be stored on the web server and doctor can access the information whenever needed from anywhere.
Health monitoring is the major problem in today’s world. Due to lack of proper health monitoring, patient suffer from serious health issues. There are lots of IoT devices now days to monitor the health of patient over internet. Health experts are also taking advantage of these smart devices to keep an eye on their patients. With tons of new healthcare technology start-ups, IoT is rapidly revolutionizing the healthcare industry.
Here in this project, we will make an IoT based Health Monitoring System which records the patient heart beat rate and body temperature and also send an email/SMS alert whenever those readings goes beyond critical values. Pulse rate and body temperature readings are recorded over ThingSpeak and Google sheets so that patient health can be monitored from anywhere in the world over internet. A panic will also be attached so that patient can press it on emergency to send email/sms to their relative
With rapid development of economies, growth of aging population and the prevalence of chronic diseases across the world, there is an urgent need to find new ways to improve patient outcomes, increase access to care, and reduce the cost of medical care. A health care monitoring system is necessary to constantly monitor patient’s physiological parameters. The tele-medical system focuses on the measurement and evaluation of vital parameters e.g. temperature, electrocardiogram (ECG), heart rate variability, fall detection etc. This will enable doctors and care givers to observe patients without having to be physically present at their bedside, be it in the hospital or in their home.
Patient Health Monitoring System Using Arduino & ESP8266Rishav Pandey
Sometimes it happens when patients struggles to find hospital beds but due to high number of covid patients they are forced to stay at home and aren't monitored by any doctor. This Health Monitoring System designed with the help of Arduino UNO board and ESP8266 wifi microchip helps the doctor to monitor the patient remotely (connected via an IoT based platform ThingSpeak). ESP8266 wi-fi microchip is used to provide internet connectivity to our project (or we can connect our project to any wifi using same). The system consists of a pulse sensor and and an LM35 temperature sensor which measures the patient's heart beats per minute and body temperature respectively. The Arduino reads the sensor data, converts them into string, passes them to the IoT platform (ThingSpeak) and also displays the BPM and body temperature on LCD display.
In this way a doctor can remotely monitor the patients and take appropriate actions when required.

There are a number of scopes for IoT in order to make a difference in lives of patients. The devices can capture as well as monitor related data regarding patient and allows the providers to obtain the insights without bringing the patients visiting. The procedure can assist the patient results as well as preventing the possible communications for the process that involves risk. However, lack of electronic health record (EHR) system integration is one of the major issues faced while using IoT in healthcare. Some of the EHR systems allow the patients importing data into the record. However, it remains limited to a few dominant where the EHR players as well as leaves providers unspecific of the processing data that can be helpful for the organization to use the process. An integrated portable device for continuous heart rate and body temperature monitoring system development is presented in this paper (Proc. of 2nd EICT, 2015). Heart related diseases are increasing day by day; therefore, an accurate, affordable and portable heart rate and body temperature measuring device is essential for taking action in proper time. Such a device is more essential in a situation where there is no doctor or clinic nearby (e.g., rural area) and patients are unable not recognize their actual condition. The developed system of this study consists of Arduino UNO microcontroller system, transmission system and Android based application. The system gives information of heart rate and body temperature simultaneously acquired on the portable device in real time and shows it through the connected Android application instantly. The developed system is more affordable with low price compared to other developed devices due to use of easy available Arduino UNO and smart phone as Android device. The developed device is shown acceptable outcomes when compared with other measuring devices.
Technological innovations in the field of disease prevention and maintenance of patient health have enabled the evolution of fields such as monitoring systems. Heart rate is a very vital health parameter that is directly related to the soundness of the human cardiovascular system. Heart rate is the number of times the heart beats per minute, reflects different physiological conditions such as biological workload, stress at work and concentration on tasks, drowsiness and the active state of the autonomic nervous system. It can be measured either by the ECG waveform or by sensing the pulse - the rhythmic expansion and contraction of an artery as blood is forced through it by the regular contractions of the heart. The pulse can be felt from those areas where the artery is close to the skin. This paper describes a technique of measuring the heart rate through a fingertip and Arduino. It is based on the principal of photophelthysmography (PPG) which is non-invasive method of measuring the variation in blood volume in tissue using a light source and detector. While the heart is beating, it is actually pumping blood throughout the body, and that makes the blood volume inside the finger artery to change too. This fluctuation of blood can be detected through an optical sensing mechanism placed around the fingertip. The signal can be amplified and is sent to Arduino with the help of serial port communication. With the help of processing software heart rate monitoring and counting is performed. The sensor unit consists of an infrared light-emitting-diode (IR LED) and a photo diode. The IR LED transmits an infrared light into the fingertip, a part of which is reflected back from the blood inside the finger arteries. The photo diode senses the portion of the light that is reflected back. The intensity of reflected light depends upon the blood volume inside the fingertip. So, every time the heart beats the amount of reflected infrared light changes, which can be detected by the photo diode. With a high gain amplifier, this little alteration in the amplitude of the reflected light can be converted into a pulse.
As elderly population increases day by day caretaking demands are also increasing. Hence patient health monitoring systems are gaining importance these days. This paper is based on monitoring of patients. We have designed and developed a reliable, energy efficient patient monitoring system. It is able to send parameters of patient in real time. It enables the doctors to monitor patient's health parameters (temp, heartbeat, ECG, position) in real time. In the current proposed system the patient health is continuously monitored using different sensors which is connected to the Arduino board. And the acquired data is send to the server using Ethernet shield attached to the Arduino board. If any of the parameter values goes beyond the threshold value an alert is given to the doctor using an Android application installed in the doctor’s smartphone.

From The Guardian to Cisco, big business to small, it seems that everybody is talking about the Internet of Things — but what exactly is IoT and why does it matter?
Taking a deep dive, we explore the many faces of IoT in Healthcare. Technology research and advisory company, Gartner, currently place the Internet of Things at the peak of inflated expectations and there are certainly challenges. But IoT also holds real promise for healthcare and it is already making an impact today.
We demonstrate why the Internet of Things has a far reaching impact across all determinants of health and how it could lead to a broader model of healthcare. We look at some of the technologies that are available to buy or that are already in development today, whilst also exploring some of the very real challenges that integrating such technologies into healthcare presents. Finally, we offer some ideas about how you can get involved, whether you are a healthcare professional or not.
A Low Power Wearable Physiological Parameter Monitoring Systemijsrd.com
The design and development of a low power wearable physiological parameter monitoring system have been developing and reporting in this paper. The system can be used to monitor physiological parameters, such as ECG signals, temperature and heartbeat. The system consists of an electronic device which is worn on the wrist and finger, by an at-risk person. Using several sensors to measure different vital signs, the person is wirelessly monitored within his own home. An epic sensor has been used to detect ECG signals. The device is battery powered for use outdoors. The device can be easily adapted to monitor athletes and infants. The low cost of the device will help to lower the cost of home monitoring of patients recovering from illness. A prototype of the device has been fabricated and extensively tested with very good results.
Activity and health monitoring systems
This paper presents an Open Platform Activity and health monitoring systems which are also called e-Health systems. These systems measure and store parameters that reflect changes in the human body. Due to continuous monitoring (e.g. in rest state and in physical effort state), a specialist can learn about the individual's physiological parameters. Because the human body is a complex system, the examiner can notice some changes within the body by looking at the physiological parameters. Six different sensors ensure us that the patient's individual parameters are monitored. The main components of the device are: A Raspberry Pi 3 small single-board computer, an e-Health Sensor Platform by Cooking-Hacks, a Raspberry Pi to Arduino Shields Connection Bridge and a 7-inch Raspberry Pi 3 touch screen. The processing unit is the Raspberry Pi 3 board. The Raspbian operating system runs on the Raspberry Pi 3, which provides a solid base for the software. Every examination can be controlled by the touch screen. The measurements can be started with the graphical interface by pressing a button and every measured result can be represented on the GUI’s label or on the graph. The results of every examination can be stored in a database. From that database the specialist can retrieve every personalized data
Body Temperature & Blood Pressure Remote MonitoringIJMTST Journal
In this paper we present an electronic system to perform a non-invasive measurement of the blood pressure based on the oscillometric method, which does not suffer from the limitations of the well-known auscultatory one. With reference to other similar devices, a great improvement of our measurement system is achieved since it performs the transmission of the systolic and diastolic pressure values to a remote computer. This aspect is very important when the simultaneous monitoring of multi-patients is required. Blood pressure readings with help of developed algorithm has been calculated and transmitted via Bluetooth kit to the stationary computer. Numerical reading values of systolic and diastolic blood pressure remotely recorded and displayed with help of LCD as well stationary computer.

Image compression is the reduction or elimination of redundancy in data representation in order to achieve reduction in storage and communication cost. For this we use the simple computational method, 2D-DCT, using two 1D-DCT performed on matrix of (8X8). The DCT is a technique that converts a signal from spatial domain to frequency domain. Here we first convert the image into minimum code units. Then 2-D DCT is applied on each block. Then further process of Quantization, Zig-Zag approach and encoding is applied on the processed data. The architecture uses 3049 slices, 2,457 LUT, 46 I/Os of Xilinx Spartan-3 XC3S1600.
An Implementation of Embedded System in Patient Monitoring Systemijsrd.com
This paper deals with the measuring of multi-parameter to measure ECG, temperature, evoked potential, respiration rate which uses sensors to measure the patient condition continuously in ICU. For each parameter it uses separate sensors .this multi-channel parameter uses special type of sensors called infracted rays (IR) which are not harmful to human body. All this signals are collected from the patient's body then it is send to the computer and it is diagnosed by the doctor .It reduces the work for the doctors and it gives accurate values. If any abnormalities in the patient's body it produces alarm and it alerts the doctors. This paper also deals with online videography i.e the doctors can view the patient's condition anywhere from the hospital's. Results are stored in the secondary storage system in computer for future reference. the results are obtained in the form of graph, waveforms.

In the present paper the physiological parameters of the patient such as body temperature, ECG, Pulse rate and Oxygen Saturation is displayed in MATLAB graphical user interface which is processed using ARM7 LPC2138. In case any emergency persist and parameters goes abnormal over the optimum level then a buzzer will ring to alert the caretaker. And the vital parameters will be displayed on the patient side computer and an automatic SMS will be sent to the doctor using GSM interface.
The epidemic growth of wireless technology and mobile services in this epoch is creating a great impact on our life style. Some early efforts have been taken to utilize these technologies in medical industry. In this field, ECG sensor based advanced wireless patient monitoring system concept is a new innovative idea. This system aims to provide health care to the patient. We have sensed the patient’s ECG through 3 lead electrode system via AD8232 which amplifies minor and small bio-signals to the arduino which processes them, along with saline level. Saline level is detected through IR sensors. The output of the electrical pulse is shown with the serial monitor. The saline level is indicated by LCD. The major output ECG analog signal is displayed on serial plotter. The outputs are displayed through mobile application.

2. In today’s scenario, health care problems are increasing at
a very high pace like coronary heart diseases, obesity, lung
failures causing death rate of 7.2 million people per year
hence it is the need of the hour to overcome from all such
problems.
Our health care providers have developed an intelligent
and low cost health monitoring system to provide more
comfortable life for people suffering from such chronic
diseases using advanced technologies like wireless
communications, embedded computations, wearable and
portable remote health monitoring system. As a result need
for repetitive doctor visits are decreased as the
information reaches from everywhere. Implementation of
wireless communication technologies in monitoring systems
is now easier because of its patient friendly manner
3. Wireless technology is ruling worldwide and has invaded the
medical area with wide range of scope and capabilities.
To monitor continuous Medicare conditions of patient using
existing wireless technologies were quite convoluted.
To overcome this, we are proposing a change in wireless
sensor technology by designing a biomedical monitoring
device comprised of different sensors to acquire the
information regarding human body temperature, heart rate,
blood pressure, lung capacity which is sent to a personal
vitality measurement system and further transmit this
information on an IOT server which is user accessible over
the internet.
4. Various Biomedical sensors have been used as
AD8232 ECG sensor is used for remote ECG
monitoring by connecting ECG electrodes to the
recording unit with cables.
Blood pressure sensor (4811) is used to measure
systolic and diastolic pressure and pulse rate for
few seconds.
LM35 temperature sensor is used to measure skin
surface temperature as it is more accurate than a
thermistor and lung capacity is measured using an
arrangement of fan with motor like spirometry.
5. Current System Medical science is expanding by leaps and
bounds in the last couple of decades for their considerable
aim towards wireless and e-health monitoring systems
providing remote monitoring of patients. But the tools used
to deal with health conditions are tedious to maintain and
limited to specific number of parameters. The systems
being complex and laborious to operate also raise the cost
of health care services and hospital expenses which is not
affordable to economically challenged community.
In early 1960’s, Kadish used a system, which includes
several things namely glucose sensor, a processor and a
pump to control glycerin in patients with diabetes. To
manage complex situations, the pump will need several
MEMS based sensors to monitor more parameters like
glucose, heart rate, temperature and ECG etc.
6. BLOOD PRESSURE:-
Blood pressure is the pressure of the blood in the
arteries. The heart contracts and expands when
it beats. Contraction pushes the blood through
the arteries to body, and this force creates
pressure on the arteries. Blood pressure is
measured as high blood pressure and low blood
pressure which called systolic pressure (as the
heart beats) and the diastolic pressure (as the
heart relaxes between beats). The unit which
measures this is called Sphygmomanometer.
8. Electrocardiography (ECG or EKG*) is the
process of recording the electrical activity of
the heart over a period of time using
electrodes placed on the skin.
These electrodes detect the tiny electrical
changes on the skin that arise from the heart
muscle's electro-physiologic pattern of
depolarizing during each heartbeat. It is a
very commonly performed cardiology test.
9.
10.
11. Lung capacity is the amount of air your lungs
can hold or the combination of different lung
volumes.
The lung capacity is measured by blowing a
fan with the maximum strength one can, and
the power generated in voltage will help to
let us know that with how much strength the
one has blown the air fan. If the level
reaches out of the prior level set, then the
patient is having problem in lungs.

14. Programming languages for the visual arts which can
help any digital artist create complex animations and
interactive installations. Processing is a powerful and
fun to use programming language that was initially
created to help coding enthusiasts learn the basics of
programming but since then, it has evolved into
something much more elaborate.
Now it is an open source development tool which
emphasizes on the visual representation of the code,
targeting both advanced users and professionals. The
language builds on the Java language, but uses a
simplified syntax and graphics programming model. It
has User-friendly interface, it retains the advantages
of simplicity. The main window is comprised from
commonly 13 found elements in any code editor,
namely a toolbar, project tabs, text editor, message
area and a console.
15. The Internet of Things (IoT), also called internet
of everything. The network is formed by physical
objects or "things" which are implanted with
electronics, software, sensors. Things or the
Objects which are connect through IoT have
ability to connect with the things for data
exchange with the operator or any other
connected devices. IoT is a International's Global
Standards Initiative. The Internet of Things
allows the connected things or objects to be
identified and controlled remotely across the
network infrastructure. It helps in creating
opportunities for more direct integration
between the physical world and computer-based
systems.
16. Arduino is an open source physical computing
platform based on a simple input/output (I/O) board
and a development environment that implements the
Processing language. Arduino can be used to develop
standalone interactive objects or can be connected to
software on your computer. Arduino hardware is an
open-source circuit board with a microprocessor and
input/output (I/O) pins for communication and
controlling physical objects (LED, servos, buttons,
etc.). The board will typically be powered via USB or
an external power supply which in turn allows it to
power other hardware and sensors.

19. In the above mentioned system we have
proposed a health monitoring system which is
GSM based.
user friendly and bridges gap between doctor
and patients.
The system is simple, Power efficient.
Practical application of the system is
superfine in rural areas as there would be no
need for the patients to get their continuous
follow-ups.
