Semiotics And Interactive Design Of Black And White Essay
Introduction
For my Annotated Research Kit, I have explored Black and White (colours), semiotics and
interactive design.
The first keyword I have explored is Black and White. This is an illustration style that I have up
until recently, been using in my studio work, and in my own personal practices as a graphic
designer. Black and White also fits in with the culture of today s younger generation, in which their
taste of visual style and graphic design preference fits in with my Black and White design style.
On a similar level, I used Black and White in an animation advertisement for the New Zealand
Safe Campaign. My intention of using a Black and White watercolour style was to make the
animation appear simple and appealing. I combined the idea of black and white with a watercolour
visual style to help bring about the sense of a natural and real animation story about the sad life of
pig farming today.
The second keyword I have explored is semiotics. Semiotics improves everyday life by simplifying
matters and information through the interpretation of simple icons. Without this, people s everyday
life would be much difficult than today as we naturally learn faster and better through visuals and
imagery.
My last keyword is interactive design, which is something that is always around us. From the way
we interact with computers to apps from the Apple store to accessing the ATM and reading an
online eBook.

My choice of media is an advertisement by Kraft Foods Inc. and I chose it because it s minimalistic
and intriguing. Thesis and Focus How simplicity and authenticity overrule ostentatious

for Heinz ketchup, the company takes an approach to amaze their audience with the help of abstract

As one seeks the accomplishment of a goal they will consider agency. An individual will choose
agency over complacency because it is the most logical and efficient way to reach what he or she
desires. When one picks complacency they will face problems and are not guaranteed to reach what
