Plato s Apology And Ralph Waldo Emerson s On Self Reliance
Through Plato s Apology and Ralph Waldo Emerson s Self Reliance both contend that living an
unexamined life is living a life of ignorance and futility. On the other hand, living an examined life
is living an enlightened life full of intelligence. I agree with Plato and Emerson s similar ideas that
without knowledge, life as it is, is not worth living. They both argue that having personal beliefs
creates an intelligent society. Having knowledge allows for one to set goals and objectives to
achieve within a lifetime, which gives purpose to one s life. In Platos Apology, Plato tells the story
of Socrates, a philosopher from Athens, Greece, who is accused by three men, a poet, a scholar
and a politician for having opposing beliefs. His charges are all based on the fact that he is a
natural philosopher and that he believes what is considered not to be the social norm. One of the
charges he faces is that he is accused of being a doer of evil, and corrupts the youth (Plato, 198).
Socrates is assumed to be someone who only harms others because he is considered to be evil.
They admit that since he does not care to accept what they consider to be true, then he must be
doing evil. Socrates is charged with corrupting the youth with his knowledge, yet when he addresses
it to his accusers and the court, he questions the charge by stating that if Meletus, his accuser, is
charging him of corrupting the youth then, Come hither. Meletus, and let me ask a question of you.

John Rawls Views On Social Justice
Everyday all over the world, people are victims of injustices done to them by their own people or
done to them by enemies. Some individuals that perform the injustices may not understand that
they are doing so. So that brings about the question of how does one categorize doing justice
versus doing an injustice? It may seem obvious to some but may be far from recognizable to
others. John Rawlswas a political and moral philosopher that had his own views that helped shape
the concepts of social justice. There are two main principles the Mr. Rawls based his theory off
and those are that everyone should have equal rights and that social and economic inequalities are
looked at and applied so that they are a great benefit of the least advantaged... Show more content

Thomas Aquinas is a philosopher that discussed the three conditions for a Just War. The first
requirement is that the war must be waged by a person of authority and that it cannot be started by
a private person. The protection of people is for those with authority to handle. The second
requirement is that it must be for a good reason or a just cause. The reason for this is because those
who are slain are being slain for their faults committed. The third requirement is the intention to
promote good and to avoid evil. Thinking about these three requirements, the thought of the most
recent wars might come to mind. Were these three aspects applied before going to war? It is hard
to answer that because there are many details unknown to the general population but most people
would say that these were not applied (Mitchell) (St. Thomas

The Transformation of Roman Catholicism Essay
The Transformation of Roman Catholicism Hans Kung presented a possible major retransformation
for Roman Catholic Christianity. He believed that
the renewal of the Catholic Church willed by the Second Vatican Councilhas come to a standstill.
(Kung:1971:9)
The transformation of Roman Catholicism both by the councils of Trent, Vatican I and II was
believed to have been needed in order to look ay the way in which the Christian tradition
encapsulates the truth of the religion. Both the Vatican councils attempted to transform Roman
Catholicism.

Criticism of the legalistic, centralistic and rationalistic narrowing of the concepts of faith, doctrine
and infallibility. In addition Kung questioned whether faith depends at all on infallibility statements
or on infallibly true propositions.
In this essay I am going to look at the questions raised by Kung and attempt to critically analyse
these against the doctrine of infallibility. In order to do this I will take each of Kung criticisms of
the Roman Catholic concept of church infallibility, as outlined above and examine them.
The theological concern therefore of Kung is the reform of the Roman Catholic church
against a Biblical and an ecumenical horizon
(Haring:1998:116)
under minding the
stability and immutability of doctrinal statements as guarantees of truth especially when they are
obligated to Vatican I s rationalistic and legalistic concept of faith.
(Haring:1998:116)
For Kung the discussion about infallibility is a discussion about the way in which truth is dealt
with inside the church that it hermeneutical and at the same time related to church practice, it is not
a discussion about the capacity of the Catholic Church for truth.
Kung firstly took the concept of infallibility and questioned its biblical basis. Kung claims that it
was believed by the councils

Gran Torino Ethos
We have seen Clint Eastwood many times before Gran Torino. Over a long career, he has
portrayed many distinctive roles that have included cowboys, police officers and boxing managers.
Even though the roles differed in time and place, they were often characterized by a strong sense of
independence and commitment to seeing difficult challenges through to the end. The end often
meant the death of villains. Eastwood s many roles have created an Eastwood ethos, or philosophy,
that his fans have been able to count on in each movie, no matter their genre or historical context.
Gran Torino is a departure from the Eastwood ethos, however, because of the way that Walt deals
with the villains. Walt s miming the shooting of the gangbangers with his fingers... Show more

The scenes occur mostly in and around Walt s and Thao s homes over the course of a film.
Editors often use fade ins and fade outs to indicate changes in time, especially when the
locations remain the same. The editors used straight cuts rather than fades in expressing its
story. In the scene when Walt tells Thao to dig up a neighbour s tree, the editor uses various
alternating scenes of Walt smoking and watching while Thao digs in the rain. The cameras
shots of Walt and Thao are separated by various dissolves. What gives the film its strength is the
way Eastwood shows Walt struggling with his prejudices and coming to terms with a changing
world and with his inner demons, many of the latter stemming from the horrors he witnessed in
the Korean War. Finally, it turns into a kind of modern western, with Walt preparing for a finale.
At the end of the film I have picked up a flaw and it appears when Walt takes Thao to get a job
and to see how true American friends of different backgrounds work together. They do this
through racial insults, calling each other wops and polack s, and there s a very funny scene with
Walt s pal, an Italian American barber. making jokes of race suggests an unlikely mocking self
awareness on Walt s part that makes his social isolation seem

Ember In The Ashes Sparknotes
Thank you to HarperCollins UK for providing me a copy of this book. An Ember in The Ashes is
a fantasy young adult book by Sabaa Tahir. It tells a story about Laia, a girl who lives in a place
ruled by the Martials. Laia is a Scholar and her people have been oppressed by the Empire for
hundred years. Meanwhile Elias is a young Martial man who trains as Empire s most deadly
soldiers, the Mask. One day, Laia s brother is taken away by the Empire and locked up in jail.
Laia then tries to find a way to save her brother by becoming a spy for a rebel group called the
Resistance, on the Blackcliff academy. Blackcliff academy is a school where they train Martials to
become soldiers. On the other hand, Elias was attempting to escape from turning into what he hates
his whole life. But one surprising event occurs that require him to stay at the academy and fight.

The Empire is supposed to be based on Ancient Rome s society. They have clear separation on
social classes which determined on what race you are (Martials, Scholar, Tribal, etc.). Slavery
and brutality can be seen anywhere in the Empire. The Empire also has complex military
structure that I had a hard time at first to understand. There are just so many ranks with different
functions and I m not good with remembering those so it was a bit of a struggle for me. But once
I figure those out, I wasn t bothered by it at all. Although it is based on Ancient Rome, I always

The Ten Main Organs In The Digestive System
The digestive system has a track that is about nine meters long. The ten main organs in this system
are the mouth, oesophagus, liver, gallbladder, pancreas, stomach, small intestine, large intestine,
rectum, and the anus. Throughout the digestive system food that we eat is broken down, nutrients
we need are absorbed from this, and the waste materials left at the end are eliminated.
The digestive process begins at the mouth. When you eat food, obviously, it enters your mouth first.
Then, in the mouth mechanical digestion, the physical act of breaking down food, happens through
the means of your teeth. Chemical Digestion , the act of breaking down food through chemicals,
also happens in the mouth due to the enzymes found in the saliva. Saliva ... Show more content on

The small intestine is the longest organ in this system as it is estimated at about four times your
height. This is where the most chemical digestion happens. The enzyme that breaks down fats in
the small intestine is called bile. Bile is produced in the liver, and stored in the gallbladder.
Enzymes that break down proteins, fats, and carbohydrates are the pancreatic enzymes as there are
multiple different ones. The liver, the gallbladder, and the pancreas are the three main organs in
the digestive system in which food does not pass through. The small intestine, however uses all
these enzymes to break down food chemically. Also, the small intestine has a lot of absorption.
Absorption is the act of the digestive system absorbing, or taking in, nutrients that our body needs.
The small intestine is responsible for a lot of absorption through finger like structures called villi.
These villi also increase the surface area of the small intestine allowing for maximum absorption
and chemical digestion.
After the food leaves the small intestine it enters the large intestine. The large intestine s main job
is to absorb water. The direction of the large intestine is to go up, then right, down again, left once,
and finally down once

Jalen Life Insurance
Life insurance plays a critical role in an individual s estate planning. One of the main reasons for
this is to create liquidity or cash flow. Traditionally, assets in an estate are non liquid assets such
as business interests or personal property, including real estate. At the time of death, expenses and
estate taxes, can be overwhelming for heirs to find the cash to pay. If this is the case, then the
estate assets must be either sold or used as collateral in taking out a loan to pay the taxes. Another
factor is that estate taxes must be paid within a certain time frame, typically 6 9 months after the
estate payout. (IRS, IRS.gov, 2015)

Glenn is concerned about him having control of the money. Without coercing him, Glenn explains

change the terms of the trust, resulting in tax consequences for both parties. In addition to that,
Glenn would no longer be making contributions. Jalen takes thirty days to think about this. After

his right to the money during the stated window of thirty days after age 21, the trust is converted

Importance Of School Day In American School
Length of day in American Schools
The American Educational system, which many of us students have become familiar with, did not
come about instantaneously. What we have now is the result of many decades of development and
policy making in legislation. Though Parochial schools were used in the U.S. as early as 1750,
and Government funded public schools began cropping up after the Revolutionary war, our
educational system s pace of development was relatively slow up until around the mid 19th century
when the first states began passing laws that made schooling compulsory to all those who had the
opportunity to attend. By the early 1900s, twelve years of education became the standard across the
nation, a standard that has withstood the test of time and is still in place today. The average school
day in the U.S. is 6.5 hours, and students are expected to attend 180 total days of school per grade
term. To supplement this, on average the U.S. spends more per capita on education than any other
country in the world. Though we spend much, the results don t directly translate to nation wide
success in schools. In 2014, the U.S. was ranked 14th globally in education. Many attribute this to
the average length of the school day in America, and others propose an overall increase in total
instructional hours within American schools.
As stated earlier, the average school day in America is 6.5 hours long, beginning at around 7:30am
and ending between 2 to 3pm. Within this time, students are

Challenges within the 56th HBCT Essay
The purpose of this memorandum is to discuss leadership and development issues and
challenges within the 56th HBCT. I have identified 8 issues and challenges that currently plague
the unit and are having an adverse effect on it and our soldiers. Additionally, discussion will
focus on the top three of these issues as well as the importance of resolving the most important
one of them with the greatest of speed.
While the unit was successful in accomplishing all of their missions in Iraq, the CALL s
extensive study identified several issues that I believe will have an impact on our future
effectiveness. The command and control at battalion and below levels was, at times, greatly

Division required the DCO to be tasked out to
supervise MITTs that were in our battle space, made him the LNO to coalition forces and he was
also required to act as the BCT chief of staff. These various assignments throughout our AO
caused confusion amongst staff and soldiers on what the DCO s role actually was and what he
was responsible for. Allowing the DCO to function as deputy commander is vital to ensuring
that our unit command structure remains in place.
I was recently contacted by the brigade provost marshal and informed about an undocumented
report of a brigade sniper shooting and killing and Iraqi civilian. I was further informed that the
soldier who reported it to provost marshal had previously informed it to the Brigade S 2 but it
was not clear if any investigation had been done on this matter. The reporting soldier has also
threatened to take the story to the media if nothing is done. While this matter is currently being
investigated, I believe that the root cause of this problem was the lack of properly trained snipers
at the platoon level. While the MTOE authorized one per platoon, the operating environment
required more. This resulted in undertrained snipers being deployed. An increase in the number
of school trained and authorized snipers could have resolved this problem.
Another organizational challenge that currently faces the 56th HBCT

My Love Of Theatre
I have been a performer my entire life, and want to continue to impact those around me through
theater. In my life, I have not yet encountered such a raw reflection of human life and emotions.
My love of theater began at a young age, and since then I have seen how the twists and turns of
plays and musicals can deeply impact an audience. My freshman year I actually performed at
my school s brother school and played Celisse in Godspell. My sophomore year I played Mrs.
Harcourt in Anything Goes, my junior year I was the Wardrobe in Beauty and the Beast, and this
year I was the Bird Woman in Mary Poppins. My favorite performances, however, is Spring Sing,
a student run production where classes compete for bragging rights. I have been an actor in Spring
Sing since my freshman year and my class hopes to win this year!
Being able to express myself through song, acting, and dance is a form of meditation for me. It is
a time where I am able to completely forget about my own anxieties and focus on the worries of
the character. Roles are static until you make them come alive, and that is where there is room for
creative expression.
My greatest skill is knowing how to improvise on and off stage. Being able to improvise is one of
the most important skills an actor can learn. I have been in improv club since my freshman year of
high school, and truly believe that it has helped me with my communication skills and self
confidence. These classes teach me how to use my environment to my

Economic Analysis of the Airline Industry Introduction The airline industry is one that is both
costly and necessary to the economy. Costly because of the funding provided by the government,
recent layoffs; which has a hand in rising inflation, dealing with negative externalities and high
security risks; necessary because the ease and speed of air travel is needed to keep countries

This is because air travel is not the only means of transportation. A person would like the speed
and convenience of travel by air, but other transportation alternatives exist. Air travel is both a
luxury and a necessity depending on the purpose of its use. For the purpose of vacationing or
visiting friends and family, air travel could be considered a luxury, but for the individual or
company who relies on the speed of air travel to complete business transactions, it would be
considered a necessity. The supply and demand of air travel is impacted by several factors. Air
travel is a normal good. The demand for air travel can diminish slightly because there are other
means of safer transportation available. The demand can also decrease if it becomes too
unaffordable. Consumers with a higher income are able to spend more time vacationing with the
use of air transportation. Air travel can be substituted with other forms of transportation if the
income of the consumer decreases. The price elasticity of supply for the Airline industry
however, is inelastic because even with the shifts in demand for air travel, which were caused by
events such as the 9/11 attacks and high gasoline prices, the rates and fares for air travel are able to
be set without being effected by those events. The airline industry provides a transportation

Absolutism Under The Influence Of Samgha
Although it may not seem evident initially, even the Chinese Buddhist Association and therefore
the Chinese sangha ultimately remain under the control of the communist government. These goals
ultimately help the government have a say in Buddhist affairs because the Chinese Buddhist
Association cannot exist without the government in the first place. For example, the Chinese
Buddhist Association and the samgha completed the socialization of monasteries under the name of
promoting Buddhism(Welch 1961, 7). Under the Land Reform Act of 1960, monks and nuns
received the same amount of land as farmers. After land distribution, the number of monks in the
monasteries continues to decrease as many of them return to the laity (Welch 1961, 1). One

The process, known as political indoctrination, helps the samgha understand that although the
government possesses ultimate authority, their voices can influence interpretation of doctrines,
scriptures, and beliefs (Yu 1971, 54). Even where the samgha receives their education remains
centralized. Most samgha studies through the Chinese Buddhist College that is affiliated with the
Chinese Buddhist Association as well. The samgha are made aware of the relationships in politics
and religion. Since only one college controls the samgha teaching primarily, the process remains
very standardized and differences get eliminated. This helps maintain legitimacy and power because
one organization and its clergy makes the decisions rather than multiple organizations fighting over
control (Yu 1971, 55). Thus, the hierarchy gets further simplified because the Chinese government
simply answers to one organization, the Chinese Buddhist Association, rather than multiple
organizations. Ultimately, this strengthens the government s control over the

The Beauty Of Spring, By Gerard Manley Hopkins
At first, Gerard Manley Hopkins s poem, Spring, seems to be just about the season of spring per
its title. However, in considering Hopkins s Catholic Christian background, this poem is also
about beauty and sin and their effects on nature in relation to the story in the book of Genesis
about Adam and Eve. Spring is a Petrarchan sonnet split into an octet and sestet and is organized in
such a way to allow Hopkins to discuss beauty and how it (through sin) corrupts itself and humanity
personified in the season of spring and Adam and Eve, accordingly. The themes of the beauty of
spring and the nature of the Garden and humanity are essential in the poet s Christian understanding
of sin and the Incarnation and Passion of JesusChrist.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, in the case of this poem by Hopkins, no problem is introduced in the octet, but is in the
sestet. Hopkins signifies this turn by asking a question about the nature of spring s beauty and
where it is from, just as juice is the characteristic flavor and essence of fruit in one meaning of the
word (OED n.1.a.). Hopkins answers this question by mentioning the Christian view of the earth s
sweet being in the beginning, thus referring to the Garden of Eden in Genesis (10 11). As inferred
by Hopkins in the first stanza and the Christian tradition which he holds, the Garden was a place
of life and flourishing rather than death, and the beginning refers to the creation story involving
Adam and Eve. Thus, according to Hopkins, the beauty of spring is identified in the sestet as a
strain from the earth s sweet being in the beginning in the Garden of Eden (10 11). Furthermore,
the sestet involves a change of word choice and figurative language instead of merely a topic
change. After describing where spring s beauty arises, the poet prayerfully addresses Christ and
asks him to retrieve this strain of spring s beauty before it cloy[s] / cloud[s]...and [makes] sour
with sinning the innocent mind and Mayday in girl and boy (10 13). In this address, cloy refers to
the potential for spring to disgust the innocence of Adam and Eve, the innocent...girl and boy, with

Aristotle Virtue Ethics
Virtue ethics is a theory used to make moral decisions. It does not rely on religion, society or
culture; it only depends on the individuals themselves. Since actions flow someone s character,
virtue ethics aspires to develop good people and good human communities. Virtue ethics is typically
associated with the Greeks and especially with Aristotle in the 4th century b.c.
Virtues ethics derives from Aristotle Nicomachean ethics which was named after his son
Nichomachus. Aristotle starts from actual moral judgements of human beings and says that by
comparing and contrasting we can come to the formulation of general principles. Living an ethical
life requires developing and demonstrating the virtues of compassion, wisdom, and temperance. It

definite separation between executive and legislative powers. To shed more light on this definition
it is necessary to consider the operation and effectiveness of the legislative institutions in the
European Union, issue of transparency and the separation of powers within the executive and
legislative powers.
There is no single body that can be described as the Union s legislature. Both the Council and the
Parliament play significant roles in the process. The European Parliament is frequently accused of
democratic deficit. In particular, there are two separate issues to consider: one relates to its
composition and another is connected to the engagement of citizens in Parliament. First of all, the
European Parliament initially consisted of delegates designated by the Parliaments of Member
States, but since 1979, it has been directly elected by the people according to the national electoral
system of each Member State. Undoubtedly, that reform helped to overcome the democratic deficit
to some extent. Nevertheless, the European Parliament is often criticized of failing to generate
much commitment and

Essay on Karl Marx

The Life of Karl Marx
Karl Marx was one of the greatest thinkers ever. Studying law and philosophy, he became an
important social philosopher and revolutionary. He influenced the lives of millions of people in
generations well past his. A man of mystery in the democratic societies, Karl Marxled an interesting
life of new ideas that would influence millions in the future.
Karl Marx was born on May 5th, 1818 (Karl Marx). He was the eldest son of Heinrich and
Hennrietta Marx. He was born in Trier, Germany. Karl was the oldest surviving boy of nine
children (Coser). Heinrich Marx was a very successful and well educated lawyer ( Marx, Karl ,

On October 15th, 1842, Marx became editor of the Rheinische Zeitung. He was required to write
many editorials from a variety of social issues. He also wrote about the new phenomenon of
communism ( Marx, Karl , Grolier).
On June 19th, 1843, Karl Heinrich Marx was wedded to Jenny von Westphalen. The marriage
took place seven years after their engagement (Marx). Jenny was an attractive, intelligent, and
much admired woman. She was four years older than Karl ( Marx, Karl , Britannica). Karl Marx s
wife was the sister of the women who later became the Prussian Minister of the Interior
(Walmsley). Jenny gave birth to seven children, one dying at birth, leaving six. Their names were
Jenny, Laura, Edgar, Heinrich, Franziska, and Eleanor. Only Jenny, Laura, and Eleanor survived
into their teens (Basgen).
After much writing on social problems Karl began to take much interest in communism, which
was a new idea being spread (Walmsley). Marx decided to summarize these ideas into his own
book. He would change the way people lived for years to come. In late 1847 Karl Marx wrote the
Manifesto of the Communist Party, commonly called the Communist Manfesto ( Marx, Karl ,
Grolier). It covers all aspects of communism. All communist governments were based off of the
Communist Manifesto ( Marx, Karl , Encarta). It consists of four parts; they are Bourgeois and

Critical Assessment of Marketing Communication Strategy
INTRODUCTION
Tourism is the second largest contributor to the Indonesian economy after oil and gas (Osman,
2009). Income from tourism totaled USD6.3 billion in 2009 with 6.5 million international arrivals
and is expected to increase to USD15 billion in 2010, providing direct employment to nearly 2
million people and 6.8 million people overall (World Travel and TourismCouncil, 2010). Realizing
that tourism has larger impact on employment and promotes trade opportunities and development
of the country, the Government of Indonesia has increased the annual budget for tourism, allocating
USD229.3 million for 2011 (Citrinot, 2010) for both development and promotion of the industry.

Indonesian tourism currently does not compare well with its neighbours Malaysia, Thailand and
Singapore. Not only has Indonesia to compete based on almost similar offerings, it also has to
overcome the challenges of terrorism and natural disasters, twin challenges that has several
countries issuing travel warnings against travelling there. Further inter connectivity within the
country is not fully developed. Target Markets and Segmentation As stated above, the Board has
targeted arrivals from 15 countries. It is unclear if these markets are further segmented. However,
based on the VITO websites located in those countries (where available in English), we noted that
there are attempts to focus on specific themes in the different markets. For example, the websites of
the Australian VITO are more focused on outdoor activities whilst the MiddleEast website was
more on culture and shopping. The remaining websites appear to be similar.

Analysis of Keats Captivating and Dismal Ballad La Belle...
John Keats is a spell binding poet, who lived a short life of 25 years, but left behind a towering
legacy in the Romantic period. His work La Belle Dame Sans Merci is an imaginative
masterpiece written in 1819, which was near his death in 1821. During the time he wrote the
ballad, his brother died of tuberculosis; an ailment that swept over many members of his family,
including him. He also became devoted to young woman, Fanny Brawne, but struggled with his
continuous meager ownerships. The time of darkness, disease, and depression were close
reflected in the ballad, where love and death both reign as did in his personal life. The central idea
in the writing was risking everything for a pleasure that can be intoxicating, and can aid in... Show

The landscape makes a statement that frames the question and announces a world of depleted
vitality, no longer productive of any harvest (Wolfson 297). The tone is somber and sorrowful;
achieved through foreboding words, and strange mystical appearances. The ballad is structured
like a dialogue between a speaker who poses questions from observation, and a knight who
provides murky answers. The first speaker that glides in during the first three stanzas, appearing
to be a stranger to this sudden ailed knight at arms. This stranger becomes the provider of a
description of another being, the knight, whose condition is haggard, and loitering. The use of
these words suggests at posterior events. The etymology of haggard suggests a wild or
intractable person, leading later in the poem to a wild eyed woman (Murry 82).The interrogative
voice of the stranger is arrested by a strange impression reflecting the speaker s uncertainty of the
strange sights at present (Almeida 295). This questioning voice appears to be the only sign of
energy in the surroundings. The question clearly remains why a knight is stumbling in an autumn
setting, appearing alone, and not on a quest? The knight is the other speaker in the ballad, who
answers to the stranger on his worn appearance and deathly complexion. It s described that he has
a lily on thy brow, a sign of death; along with being moist and fever dew, all signs of sickness.

Frost, By Robert Lee Frost
As Robert Lee Frost, an honored American poet once said, A poem begins as a lump in the throat,
a sense of wrong, a homesickness, a lovesickness. Frost earned respect through his expertise in
colloquial language, and his descriptive interpretations of rural life. Frost often analyzed social and
philosophical leitmotifs using settings from early twenty first century New England. Frost was
honored in his lifetime with four Pulitzers. Furthermore, focusing mostly on analyzing Frost s most
popular works, whilst taking you through his life, and the events that shaped his poems, To begin,
Robert Lee Frost was born on March 26, 1874, in San Francisco, where his parents relocated
shortly after marrying. At eleven years old, Frost s father died from tuberculosis, and shortly after
Frost, his sister, and his mother moved to Massachusetts. Frost became interested in literature and
poetryduring his high school years at Lawrence High School, where he would graduate co
valedictorian, with the woman he would later marry. In the fall of 1892, Frost enrolled in
Dartmouth College, only to return home after one semester to work various jobs. In 1984, Frost
would publish his first poem, My Butterfly: An Elegy. As his first poem, My Butterfly: An Elegy

Alexander Zaslavsky s Rasputin
Alexander Zaslavsky was a doctoral student at Nuffeild College, Oxford University. He was also
the director of international relations at an independent political risk consultancy based in New
York called the Eurasia Group. In his works, he introduces the Rasputin or the dark forces
analogy as one that was very influential while Tsar Nicholas II was in power. Zaslavsky brings
attention to the term camarilla, meaning a little room in Spanish, which describes an advisor (or
advisors) to a ruler. He describes Nicholas II as being perceived as easily influenced and very
indecisive monarch, often surrendering to those strong individuals around him, such as his wife,
Empress Alexandra. Zaslavsky explains that, the forces around the throne... Show more content on

Zaslavsky does clarify that the Tsarina s attachment to mysticism is to be largely blamed on
Rasputin s court admission. Rasputin had persuaded Alexandra and the rest of the royal family to
put their trust in him, as he was able to contain Prince Alexis hemophilic condition, which was
very much incurable. By staying close to the royal family, Rasputin was able to obtain court
power, having influence on appointments concerning both church and governmental hierarchies.
Zaslavsky provides examples of Rasputin s influence on the royal family, such as the removal of
Grand Duke Nikolai Nikolevich in the summer of 1915. Rasputin was perceived as able to remove
and appoint high officials, all while managing to stay out of governmental documentation. It does
appear that Rasputin did not have any political motives, and that it was merely the consolidation of
personal power and prestige. His primary motive was to maintain his position through manipulation
of appointments. When it came to the First World War, Rasputin was right beside the Tsarina,
advising her as she passed on her influence to Nicholas II. Zaslavsky asserts

business model that s based on getting up to 70 to 80 percent of their revenue from 10 percent of

many states rely heavily on lottery super users. Three states, Rhode Island, South Dakota and

Lotteries also tend to function as a tax on the poor. Studies show that it s the poorest Americans
who spend the biggest portion of income on lotteries, with 61% of people in the lowest fifth of

Political Influences Of Alexander Pope
One of the most influential poets of the 17th and 18th centuries, Alexander Pope significantly
influenced classical poetry through his didactic and satirical works. Born in 1688, Pope began his
life already facing many challenges through different facets of his life. Because his family were
practicing Catholics, the Pope s were forced to move onto the outskirts of town, and Alexander
wasn t able to attend school any longer, which challenged him to teach himself. Rising to the
challenge, Pope taught himself different languages, and wrote his first poem, Ode on Solitude, at
the age of twelve (Masters in English). With his satiric style, Alexander Popewas able to write about
his own experiences with Pott s disease, as well as his well known translations of plays such as
Illiad and The Odyssey where he included some of his own ideas in their writing(notable
biographies). Alexander Pope shaped the writings of his time through the use of satire, drawing on
his own life and the situations around him for inspiration and support.
In 18th century England, poetry was mainly political and satirical. The main philosophical
question was whether the individual or society took precedence as the subject of verse.
(slideshare). This time period was led by Alexander Pope because of his early start into writing and
his continued works throughout his life. Pope and most poets/authors of the time wrote with reason
over feelings and were typically written in rhymes and heroic couplets.

My Totem Pole Essay
My Totem Pole A totem pole is a tall log carved mainly by the indigenous people of Alaska and
British Columbia. The poles tell stories that have been passed down from generation to generation
as legends and myths. However, that is not the only type of totem pole, there are totems that tell
the carver s history, their family s history and some are even used to honor the dead. Additionally,
some totem poles were made to show respect to an important tribal member. Totem poles feature
animals and symbols, chosen by the carver to represent themselves, another person, or an event. I
have chosen to construct a totem poleto represent my qualities and personality. My totem pole will
feature a deer, a fox, a monkey, and a cat. For my first totem animal, I have chosen the deer. I

Ancient Greece And Rome During The World
Ancient Greece and Rome are some of the most famous time periods in the world, but what
influenced them? Ancient Greece lasted roughly from 1000 400 B.C.E while ancient Rome was
from 753 B.C. 476 A.D (Cole and Symes, 75). The Greek alphabet was influenced by Phoenician
sea traders and their art was mostly influenced by Egypt and western Asia. On the other hand,
Rome was influenced by the Greek and derived the alphabet, many of their religious beliefs, and
much of their art (Cole and Symes, 147). Ancient Greeceand Rome were influenced by the Ancient
Near East sedentary societies through art, religion, and architecture. Greece was the first society
that was male dominated . Also, sexuality was a part of everyday life for Greeks. If home owners
did not offer hospitality to certain groups of people, then they would be sentenced to death (Garcia
Lecture 2/3/16). The Greeks had extremely strict rules with education and training. Greece is also
known well for their world famous philosophers such as Aristotle, Socrates, Plato, and much more.
Ancient Romestarted as a small town in central Italy, but developed into a vast empire, including
continental Europe, Britain, much of western Asia, northern Africa and the Mediterranean islands.
Although Rome was influenced by many aspects of Greek life, they downplayed their influence in
mythology, preferring to emphasize their alleged descent from the Trojans (Cole and Symes, 147).

Amory Blaine Quotes
1.RICH GIRL LUKE WADE (ORIGINAL HALL OATES) Amory Blaine, the main character in
the novel, is a rich young boy in the beginning of the book. Amory s father Stephen Blaine
became wealthy when two of his brothers, successful Chicago brokers, died. Although this
classic song s lyrics are about a girl, Daryl Hall explained to that the song is actually about one of
his girlfriend s ex boyfriends who had a rich father. (Hall further explained that Rich Girl was
used instead of Rich Boy because the former sounded better.) The song warns a young man that
because he depended on his father s money, he won t get too far . As a young boy, Amory is used
to living with riches in a sophisticated way. He s never warned about the dangers of depending
on wealth, however. This leads to Amory not having enough money to support himself later on in
the novel. 2.COOL KIDS ECHOSMITH Like many growing adolescents, Amory has trouble with

Ceramics Scholarship Essay
Growing up I have developed interests and abilities that continue to provide me endless satisfaction
and joy: literature, creative writing, friends, and art. These things are my foundation, my fun and
my life.
Ceramics is one of my true passions. It began when I was very young and continued through a 5
week summer program at Choate in 2016, and now at Fay as my favored art class. At Choate, I
advanced significantly in ceramics, learning and developing new clay and glazing techniques. One
of the methods I created was a marbling technique which impressed my fellow students and was
used by upper classmates for the rest of the summer. In my present ceramics class at Fay, I have
worked hard on hand building pieces, whistles, and using slabs to create boxes, vases, and tea sets.
I am hoping to get onto the Varsity Art team next year. Varsity Art is a ninth grade art class where
advanced art students are placed together to work and learn new techniques. The class focuses on

An increasing body of evidence verifies the influence of exercise on energy and function of the
central nervous system (CNS) and how it can even help against neurological disorders. According
to these studies and reports, exercise has the astonishing ability to boost mental health, and modern
efforts are being dedicated to use this capability to reduce cognitive degeneration in aging and
psychiatric illnesses. In this paper, recent studies are examined in humans and animals
demonstrating the ability of exercise to uphold cognitive health across a lifespan. Accompanied
with the goal to develop a complete explanation of how the effects of exercise in the brain correlates

visit that should occur within the next 13 months. I have reviewed the current compliance status of
our hospital and will explain our corrective action plan that will ensure compliance with the Joint
Commission standards for the focus area of communication.
An accreditation audit was performed by Carl Anderson, Director of Quality. We were only in 100%
compliance in December throughout the year in one of the priority focus areas of the Joint
Commission standard: Communication; Standard: ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This will be a double check off to insure safety. We will start a chart audit at projected start date
July 1, 2012 and review in 90 days. The checklists will assure that all verifications and site
identifications have been carried out.
A focused audit will be done on all patients undergoing operative or invasive procedures for the
next year. Results will be analyzed by the nurse manager and discussed at staff meetings. Evaluation
of compliance will be done at the staff meetings and any recommendations for improvement will be
discussed and approved at these meetings. Implementation of any recommendations will be
instituted the following month. Summaries of the audit and any recommendations for improvement
will be sent to the PI committee on a quarterly basis.
A PI Coordinator will review all findings at staff meetings, department meetings, medical staff
meeting and monthly at the PI Committee meeting. A summary of findings is presented to the
governing board on a quarterly basis.

Research Paper On Cyberman
Cyberman is your average crime fighting superhero. Behind his mask he is a man named Ossie
Aibogan, who is just some rich, nerd who built himself into a superhero, because he has the money
and the power. His identity was a secret, of course. Ossie had first created the character Cyberman
as a simple doodle that then transformed into something much more. He perfected Cybermans
design for years until he was finally ready to put on the suit and publicly become Cyberman.
Cyberman s clothes are woven from a stronger, lighter iron that isn t available to the average
citizen, but Ossie is far from average. He invented the first ever pair flying shoes, which
coincidentally were the first ever shoes to fit on his abnormally large feet. He wears a dark... Show

Black pants, combat boots, a simple shirt, jacket, and of course, a white mask with a blue cape to
match Cyber man. Her boots were equipped with the newest technology, invented by Ossie, which
numbed her leg muscles allowing her to run at supernatural speeds, she had a graveling hook
hanging from her belt, and small tube that lead from the opening of her jacket at her wrists
through the sleeve to her back where it was attached to an extremely small device which would
allow Kristal to shoot fire out of both hands. And after hours of designing and choosing a name,
they had created Fangirl.
Next the hard part came training. For months Kristal trained hard so she could truly become
Fangirl. After what seemed like forever Fangirl finally accompanied Cyber man on a mission. It
was something small but it was huge for Kristal. Someone had kidnapped a child and cyber man
immediately hacked into the police s files to get background information on the main suspect. After
deciding he was positive the suspect had done it, cyber man lead fangirl to his house late that night
they went to his house. Fangirl snuck around back while cyber man broke a window in, and
jumped into the

Intercultural Identity
An individual s culture, upbringing, privileges, orientation etc. all affect how one views the
world. In order to confront difficult issues, such as social justice, one must realize how their
positionality effects their epistemologies. Takacs (2002) states that when we develop the skill of
understanding how we know what we know, we acquire a key to lifelong learning (p. 28). Being
able to discern why we view the world in a certain way leads to truths about one s own identity,
such as their privileges in society.
However, these identities are not always apparent. Tatum (2000) states that it is our targeted
identities that hold our attention, while the dominant identities go unexamined (p. 7). In order to
develop a holistic sense of self, we must examine all parts of our being. As my interviewer
remarked: you have to know who you are, and how you show up in pieces, and the impact that may
give to others, because that definitely contributes (A. Rubango, personal communication, September
13, 2017). Every person has their own multitude of identities. My interviewer s own identity
contains numerous components as a female, an immigrant from the Congo, and having a middle
class SES. Through her many target and dominant identities, she has acknowledged how these
pieces have given her a unique viewpoint on the world, and how they have affected her view on
issues, such as those pertaining to social justice.
Exploring one s identity is crucial, but it is vital on the

Essay about Sex Pistols and Censorship
Sex Pistols and Censorship
Punks have always been known for pushing the envelope, but the Sex Pistols pushed it farther
than anyone to date in the genre of punk music. The Sex Pistols boisterous lyrics and edgy
appearance led for them to be heavily censored by the radio and print media and even banned in
many places, Britain and abroad.
They were like nothing seen or heard before. Their torn clothes and spiked hair sent a visual
message that they did not care what others thought. The band was actually put together by Malcolm
McLaren, who used the band as an advertisement for his fetish clothing store. Their chains, tight
leather, and torn clothes have since been associated with punk.
The Sex Pistols first single, Anarchy in the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The band has to tour under various names such as S.P.O.T.S. (The Sex Pistols On Tour Secretly),
because they are banned by many national governments. Their performances were crazy and
lengendary. Bassist Sid Vicioushelped the band gain notoriety with his insane performances. One
night nobody was payin any attention to me, so I thought I d commit suicide, Vicious said. So I
went in the bathroom broke a glass and slashed my chest with it. It s a really good way to get
attention. I m going to do it again particularly since it doesn t work. They all said I didn t cut
myself enough to be realistic and ignored me. He laughed, then added You better not make a fool
of me in this article.
After being dropped by E.M.I. for their disgraceful.... agressive...behavior, the band quickly
resigned to A M Records, who subsequently dropped them six days later by executives who were
worried about the band s message. The only label that would sign them was the hippie label
Virgin. The Pistols released the single God Save the Queen under Virgin in May of 1977, only to
have it banned soon thereafter by BBC Radio. Virgin managed to get Boots s, Woolworth, and
W.H. Smith stores lift their ban and agree to stock the band s new single Pretty Vacant / No Fun.

Tanguy s Painting The Earth And The Air
The earth and the air is an oil painting by the French Surrealist Yves Tanguy. It is one of the
modern art paintings in the Cone Collection, in the Baltimore Museum of Art. It is created by
Tanguy in 1941. It is about 30 x 40 wide with a wooden frame. The background colors divide the
piece into mainly two sections, the top and the bottom part. The top part is about 3/5 of the whole
piece. It is painted in blue and white, like a watercolor like sky without any subject matters. It has a
dreamy feeling because the colors blend smoothly.
There is no clear horizon line in the painting but it is still possible to separate the ground and the
sky by the background colors or the compositions. The top part is in mainly blue and white while the

The larger pieces are in the front while the objects in the back are smaller. Also the cast black
shadows of the objects are distinct with clear edges and more than one light spots are found in the
painting. Therefore there are several light sources coming from the right hand corner of the painting
and shine to the objects.
It is assumed that the main focus of the painting is the bottom part because the objects are placed
there and they draw viewers attention first. They are realistic but abstract and evenly distributed
on the page. They look like modern sculptures not only with alien shapes but also innovative
colors. There are a group of building like shapes on the most front of the painting. They are
connected at the bottom part so they can be described as a group. They have different dimensions
and one of them has a very sharp part pointing upwards to the melting land between the ground and
the sky. There are several alien objects around the main group, which some of them are really tiny
but still are painted precisely. There is a transparent objectin between the middle ground and the
background on the left hand side of the painting. The whole shape blends into the background
because of its transparency. Also it is because there is not enough light shinning to the object to
make it easily visible. One of the interesting about the painting is there are two super tiny spots
near the transparent object. They are painted clearly and you can see them only on closer

  • 2. Plato s Apology And Ralph Waldo Emerson s On Self Reliance Through Plato s Apology and Ralph Waldo Emerson s Self Reliance both contend that living an unexamined life is living a life of ignorance and futility. On the other hand, living an examined life is living an enlightened life full of intelligence. I agree with Plato and Emerson s similar ideas that without knowledge, life as it is, is not worth living. They both argue that having personal beliefs creates an intelligent society. Having knowledge allows for one to set goals and objectives to achieve within a lifetime, which gives purpose to one s life. In Platos Apology, Plato tells the story of Socrates, a philosopher from Athens, Greece, who is accused by three men, a poet, a scholar and a politician for having opposing beliefs. His charges are all based on the fact that he is a natural philosopher and that he believes what is considered not to be the social norm. One of the charges he faces is that he is accused of being a doer of evil, and corrupts the youth (Plato, 198). Socrates is assumed to be someone who only harms others because he is considered to be evil. They admit that since he does not care to accept what they consider to be true, then he must be doing evil. Socrates is charged with corrupting the youth with his knowledge, yet when he addresses it to his accusers and the court, he questions the charge by stating that if Meletus, his accuser, is charging him of corrupting the youth then, Come hither. Meletus, and let me ask a question of you. You ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. John Rawls Views On Social Justice Everyday all over the world, people are victims of injustices done to them by their own people or done to them by enemies. Some individuals that perform the injustices may not understand that they are doing so. So that brings about the question of how does one categorize doing justice versus doing an injustice? It may seem obvious to some but may be far from recognizable to others. John Rawlswas a political and moral philosopher that had his own views that helped shape the concepts of social justice. There are two main principles the Mr. Rawls based his theory off and those are that everyone should have equal rights and that social and economic inequalities are looked at and applied so that they are a great benefit of the least advantaged... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Thomas Aquinas is a philosopher that discussed the three conditions for a Just War. The first requirement is that the war must be waged by a person of authority and that it cannot be started by a private person. The protection of people is for those with authority to handle. The second requirement is that it must be for a good reason or a just cause. The reason for this is because those who are slain are being slain for their faults committed. The third requirement is the intention to promote good and to avoid evil. Thinking about these three requirements, the thought of the most recent wars might come to mind. Were these three aspects applied before going to war? It is hard to answer that because there are many details unknown to the general population but most people would say that these were not applied (Mitchell) (St. Thomas ... • 4. The Transformation of Roman Catholicism Essay The Transformation of Roman Catholicism Hans Kung presented a possible major retransformation for Roman Catholic Christianity. He believed that the renewal of the Catholic Church willed by the Second Vatican Councilhas come to a standstill. (Kung:1971:9) The transformation of Roman Catholicism both by the councils of Trent, Vatican I and II was believed to have been needed in order to look ay the way in which the Christian tradition encapsulates the truth of the religion. Both the Vatican councils attempted to transform Roman Catholicism. Before I can first look at Kungs objections ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Criticism of the legalistic, centralistic and rationalistic narrowing of the concepts of faith, doctrine and infallibility. In addition Kung questioned whether faith depends at all on infallibility statements or on infallibly true propositions. In this essay I am going to look at the questions raised by Kung and attempt to critically analyse these against the doctrine of infallibility. In order to do this I will take each of Kung criticisms of the Roman Catholic concept of church infallibility, as outlined above and examine them. The theological concern therefore of Kung is the reform of the Roman Catholic church against a Biblical and an ecumenical horizon (Haring:1998:116) under minding the stability and immutability of doctrinal statements as guarantees of truth especially when they are obligated to Vatican I s rationalistic and legalistic concept of faith. (Haring:1998:116) For Kung the discussion about infallibility is a discussion about the way in which truth is dealt with inside the church that it hermeneutical and at the same time related to church practice, it is not a discussion about the capacity of the Catholic Church for truth. Kung firstly took the concept of infallibility and questioned its biblical basis. Kung claims that it was believed by the councils

  • 6. Gran Torino Ethos We have seen Clint Eastwood many times before Gran Torino. Over a long career, he has portrayed many distinctive roles that have included cowboys, police officers and boxing managers. Even though the roles differed in time and place, they were often characterized by a strong sense of independence and commitment to seeing difficult challenges through to the end. The end often meant the death of villains. Eastwood s many roles have created an Eastwood ethos, or philosophy, that his fans have been able to count on in each movie, no matter their genre or historical context. Gran Torino is a departure from the Eastwood ethos, however, because of the way that Walt deals with the villains. Walt s miming the shooting of the gangbangers with his fingers... Editors often use fade ins and fade outs to indicate changes in time, especially when the locations remain the same. The editors used straight cuts rather than fades in expressing its story. In the scene when Walt tells Thao to dig up a neighbour s tree, the editor uses various alternating scenes of Walt smoking and watching while Thao digs in the rain. The cameras shots of Walt and Thao are separated by various dissolves. What gives the film its strength is the way Eastwood shows Walt struggling with his prejudices and coming to terms with a changing world and with his inner demons, many of the latter stemming from the horrors he witnessed in the Korean War. Finally, it turns into a kind of modern western, with Walt preparing for a finale. At the end of the film I have picked up a flaw and it appears when Walt takes Thao to get a job and to see how true American friends of different backgrounds work together. They do this through racial insults, calling each other wops and polack s, and there s a very funny scene with Walt s pal, an Italian American barber. making jokes of race suggests an unlikely mocking self awareness on Walt s part that makes his social isolation seem ... Throughout the digestive system food that we eat is broken down, nutrients we need are absorbed from this, and the waste materials left at the end are eliminated. The digestive process begins at the mouth. When you eat food, obviously, it enters your mouth first. The liver, the gallbladder, and the pancreas are the three main organs in the digestive system in which food does not pass through. The small intestine, however uses all these enzymes to break down food chemically. Also, the small intestine has a lot of absorption. Absorption is the act of the digestive system absorbing, or taking in, nutrients that our body needs. The small intestine is responsible for a lot of absorption through finger like structures called villi. These villi also increase the surface area of the small intestine allowing for maximum absorption and chemical digestion. After the food leaves the small intestine it enters the large intestine. Traditionally, assets in an estate are non liquid assets such as business interests or personal property, including real estate. At the time of death, expenses and estate taxes, can be overwhelming for heirs to find the cash to pay. If this is the case, then the estate assets must be either sold or used as collateral in taking out a loan to pay the taxes. Importance Of School Day In American School Length of day in American Schools The American Educational system, which many of us students have become familiar with, did not come about instantaneously. What we have now is the result of many decades of development and policy making in legislation. Though Parochial schools were used in the U.S. as early as 1750, and Government funded public schools began cropping up after the Revolutionary war, our educational system s pace of development was relatively slow up until around the mid 19th century when the first states began passing laws that made schooling compulsory to all those who had the opportunity to attend. By the early 1900s, twelve years of education became the standard across the nation, a standard that has withstood the test of time and is still in place today. The average school day in the U.S. is 6.5 hours, and students are expected to attend 180 total days of school per grade term. To supplement this, on average the U.S. spends more per capita on education than any other country in the world. Though we spend much, the results don t directly translate to nation wide success in schools. In 2014, the U.S. was ranked 14th globally in education. Many attribute this to the average length of the school day in America, and others propose an overall increase in total instructional hours within American schools. For example, the Chinese Buddhist Association and the samgha completed the socialization of monasteries under the name of promoting Buddhism(Welch 1961, 7). Under the Land Reform Act of 1960, monks and nuns received the same amount of land as farmers. The samgha are made aware of the relationships in politics and religion. This helps maintain legitimacy and power because one organization and its clergy makes the decisions rather than multiple organizations fighting over control (Yu 1971, 55). However, in considering Hopkins s Catholic Christian background, this poem is also about beauty and sin and their effects on nature in relation to the story in the book of Genesis about Adam and Eve. Spring is a Petrarchan sonnet split into an octet and sestet and is organized in such a way to allow Hopkins to discuss beauty and how it (through sin) corrupts itself and humanity personified in the season of spring and Adam and Eve, accordingly. The themes of the beauty of spring and the nature of the Garden and humanity are essential in the poet s Christian understanding of sin and the Incarnation and Passion of JesusChrist.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, in the case of this poem by Hopkins, no problem is introduced in the octet, but is in the sestet. Hopkins signifies this turn by asking a question about the nature of spring s beauty and where it is from, just as juice is the characteristic flavor and essence of fruit in one meaning of the word (OED n.1.a.). Hopkins answers this question by mentioning the Christian view of the earth s sweet being in the beginning, thus referring to the Garden of Eden in Genesis (10 11). As inferred by Hopkins in the first stanza and the Christian tradition which he holds, the Garden was a place of life and flourishing rather than death, and the beginning refers to the creation story involving Adam and Eve. Thus, according to Hopkins, the beauty of spring is identified in the sestet as a strain from the earth s sweet being in the beginning in the Garden of Eden (10 11). Furthermore, the sestet involves a change of word choice and figurative language instead of merely a topic change. After describing where spring s beauty arises, the poet prayerfully addresses Christ and asks him to retrieve this strain of spring s beauty before it cloy[s] / cloud[s]...and [makes] sour with sinning the innocent mind and Mayday in girl and boy (10 13). • 27. Analysis of Keats Captivating and Dismal Ballad La Belle... John Keats is a spell binding poet, who lived a short life of 25 years, but left behind a towering legacy in the Romantic period. His work La Belle Dame Sans Merci is an imaginative masterpiece written in 1819, which was near his death in 1821. During the time he wrote the ballad, his brother died of tuberculosis; an ailment that swept over many members of his family, including him. He also became devoted to young woman, Fanny Brawne, but struggled with his continuous meager ownerships. The time of darkness, disease, and depression were close reflected in the ballad, where love and death both reign as did in his personal life. The central idea in the writing was risking everything for a pleasure that can be intoxicating, and can aid in... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The landscape makes a statement that frames the question and announces a world of depleted vitality, no longer productive of any harvest (Wolfson 297). The tone is somber and sorrowful; achieved through foreboding words, and strange mystical appearances. The ballad is structured like a dialogue between a speaker who poses questions from observation, and a knight who provides murky answers. The first speaker that glides in during the first three stanzas, appearing to be a stranger to this sudden ailed knight at arms. This stranger becomes the provider of a description of another being, the knight, whose condition is haggard, and loitering. The use of these words suggests at posterior events. The etymology of haggard suggests a wild or intractable person, leading later in the poem to a wild eyed woman (Murry 82).The interrogative voice of the stranger is arrested by a strange impression reflecting the speaker s uncertainty of the strange sights at present (Almeida 295). This questioning voice appears to be the only sign of energy in the surroundings. The question clearly remains why a knight is stumbling in an autumn setting, appearing alone, and not on a quest? The knight is the other speaker in the ballad, who answers to the stranger on his worn appearance and deathly complexion. It s described that he has a lily on thy brow, a sign of death; along with being moist and fever dew, all signs of sickness. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

By staying close to the royal family, Rasputin was able to obtain court power, having influence on appointments concerning both church and governmental hierarchies. • 34. Political Influences Of Alexander Pope One of the most influential poets of the 17th and 18th centuries, Alexander Pope significantly influenced classical poetry through his didactic and satirical works. Born in 1688, Pope began his life already facing many challenges through different facets of his life. Because his family were practicing Catholics, the Pope s were forced to move onto the outskirts of town, and Alexander wasn t able to attend school any longer, which challenged him to teach himself. Rising to the challenge, Pope taught himself different languages, and wrote his first poem, Ode on Solitude, at the age of twelve (Masters in English). With his satiric style, Alexander Popewas able to write about his own experiences with Pott s disease, as well as his well known translations of plays such as Illiad and The Odyssey where he included some of his own ideas in their writing(notable biographies). Alexander Pope shaped the writings of his time through the use of satire, drawing on his own life and the situations around him for inspiration and support. In 18th century England, poetry was mainly political and satirical. The main philosophical question was whether the individual or society took precedence as the subject of verse. (slideshare). This time period was led by Alexander Pope because of his early start into writing and his continued works throughout his life. Pope and most poets/authors of the time wrote with reason over feelings and were typically written in rhymes and heroic couplets. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In order to confront difficult issues, such as social justice, one must realize how their positionality effects their epistemologies. Takacs (2002) states that when we develop the skill of understanding how we know what we know, we acquire a key to lifelong learning (p. 28). Being able to discern why we view the world in a certain way leads to truths about one s own identity, such as their privileges in society. However, these identities are not always apparent.
