The Conflict Between Christian Faith And Those Of Islamic...
As a global collective, the human past is purely one of conflict. Power struggles are widespread and
unique in context, but these struggles are not special in the presence or complexity of the self versus
other conflict within them. One of the strongest examples for this assertion is the First Crusades. At
face value, any observer can immediately take notice of the separation between those of Christian
faith and those of Islamic faith. If additional diligence in research is provided, any one of these
observers begins to find the endlessly deeper self versus other struggles present on both sides,
specifically amongst the Christian military. Numerous accounts from Christian actors serve to support
this argument; the recorded thoughts of both soldiers and intellectuals detail the surprising amount of
divisions between what should be the Christian united. The relationship between the self and the other
present in the mindset of the actors of the Crusades shows that a definite, dynamic, yet necessary
division between all groups of people exists, no matter the already established bonds of any collective.
One of the most complicated pieces to the self versus other puzzle is the dynamic nature of its
idealistic segregation. Each person involved with the First Crusade had an undeniable loyalty to God.
In an effort seemingly meant to cultivate more glory, some saw it fitting to sacrifice established
intercommunity bonds for the sake of peer provided glory. The glory promised by Pope

An Analysis Of Henley s Essay Invictus
Life is challenging for everyone. We will all face its difficulties eventually; whether it be something
financial, like paying bills, something physical, like a bodily injury, or something emotional, like the
loss of a loved one. Billions of people go through these struggles every day, maybe even you are going
through something similar. Because of this, it is important for everyone to stay strong, despite the
difficulties of life; because whether we like it or not, bad things will continue to happen, and
collapsing under that pressure is no good for anyone. In William Ernest Henley s poem Invictus, the
narrator, who is very likely the author, tells us that through all of life s difficulties, we must remain
dignified, stand tall, and keep moving forward. The reason the narrator of the poem is very likely the
author is because, during the time that Henley wrote this poem, he was going through some
difficulties in his own life. According to the Merriam Webster s Encyclopedia of Literature, Henley
was hospitalized for tuberculosis to the bone, which forced doctors to amputate both of his feet. This
resulted in Henley ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Nelson Mandela, while incarcerated in Robben Island, recited the poem to the prisoners and it helped
him build up the necessary patience and strength to wait out his jail sentence and then destroy
apartheid in South Africa, in Winston Churchill s speech to the House of Commons in 1941 he
paraphrased the last two line of the poem stating We are still the masters of our fate. We are still the
captains of our souls . In pop culture we often see people who give some sort of speech that motivates
you to be strong and not give up, these speeches are greatly inspired my Henley s poem since they all
touch on the subject of remaining strong even though times were tough. An example of this would be
in Rocky when he speaks to his son about strength, which has subtle allusions to the

AVG Technology: Traditional IPO VS. Auction Based IPO Our nation has suffered through a
recession for the past decade. Small and large businesses, alike, have suffered directly resulting in
American jobs being lost, the national debt skyrocketing into the trillions, and parents struggling to
keep food on the table for their children. Foresight is a trait that a business owners, or executives, must
possess to lead their company in profitable times, and navigate through turbulent times. One of the
most significant events in the life of any company is becoming publically traded; when a company

The fees of getting either kind of IPO is significant.
Typically, legal fees and expenses are the largest single cost item, running from $600,000 to $900,000.
Accounting fees and expenses are usually not far behind, generally ranging from $350,000 to
$600,000, while printing and engraving expenses often are from $175,000 to $400,000. The total
expense of going public generally ranges from $1.5 to $2.5 million, including such significant cost
items as stock exchange application and filing fees, Blue Sky fees and transfer agent and registrar
expenses (Maxivest, 2005).
The following chart reported by Ritter (1998), extracted from nyu.edu, depicts the average insurance
an underwriting cost of the IPO process:
(Ibbotson, Sindelar, amp; Ritter)
As previously stated, there is a significant cost to going public; organizational leadership must weigh
the benefit of the potential capital with the cost of the process. AVG Technology used a traditional IPO
to go public because it is stable and they ensured they raise their desired capital. Opposite to Google
Inc s success, IPO auctions are unpredictable and are not worth the risk unless the company has a well
known lucrative product or is a high profile company; such as Google Inc. Google s high profile IPO
did not alter the trend: only three of more

SOX Exhibits Non-Profit Organizations
i) Whistleblower Protection: SOX prohibits non profit organizations (as well as profit organization)
from retaliating against the whistleblowers. In other words, no entity cannot harass, fire, demote or
assault any employee who reports of improper functioning in the organization even if eventually such
reports turn unfounded. However, the employee should have a reasonable belief and proper grounds to
justify his belief about the wrongdoing in the company. (Perlman and Perlman LLP, 2006) ii)
Protection of internal documents: SOX has made it a federal crime for both non profit organization
and for profit organizations that intentionally destroy important internal document that may be useful
for federal agencies, if any investigation arise against the organization. Important to note, while SOX
does not prohibit all document destruction, but it does highlight the need for document retention

Guy De Maupassant s Life
Guy De Maupassant was born August 5, 1850, in Château de Miromesnil, France (The Famous
People, Guy de Maupassant), when he was young his parents got divorced and after that, his father
left, denying him a chance to develop a relationship with his son. He started school with a religious
education but, after getting expelled on purpose he pursued a bachelor s degree at Lycée at Le Havre

that read his works usually viewed him as French writer Guy de Maupassant is famous for his short
stories, which paint a fascinating picture of French life in the 19th century (Biography.com, Guy de
Maupassant) He became famous immediately but, it is debated whether his success was just based on
his connections or because of his actual talent and special writing quirks that made him stand out as a
writer. His work proved to be very popular due to his unique take on life and his whiplash endings that
left the readers asking why(Encyclopedia of World Biography, Guy de Maupassant). The majority of
his stories were categorized into sections, the Franco Prussian War, the Norman peasantry, the
bureaucracy, life on the banks of the Seine, the emotional problems of the different classes. All of his
stories were based on what he had experienced, and these things had happened to him in one way or
another. His writing was also considered to be put in the genre of naturalism. Naturalism is a style of

Final Reflection
Jon and Rachel are awesome! Thank you all for a wonderful class!
1. Which guest speaker hosted in class this semester had the greatest impact on you? What did you
learn from him/her and how might it affect your future? The topic that had the greatest impact on me
is about food security by professor Michelson. In the lecture, we discussed the importance of food
security, the trends of rising global food demand, factors that drives the expected demand increase,
and also the relationship between income and food. The first question she came up with is why food
security became such a major challenge worldwide? In my point of view, one of the simple reason is
that everybody needs food. By answering this question, she introduced the definition of food security,
and three hierarchical pillars. I learned that population growth, climate change, and water scarcity are
some of the factor that cause food security became a problem. Also, as people become more affluent
they start to change their tastes. For example, meat consumption in both developed and developing
countries predict to increase while their income rise. Then we analyzed couple graph and table. In the
over nourishment map, we found out that Europe, North America and Oceania seems waste the most
food. In the map of meat demand driver, I learned that since two third of meat Chinese consume is
pork, China actually consumes more total meat calories than US. Last but not least, professor
Michelson introduced Engel s law and Bennett s law. Engel s law stated that as income increase, the
portion of income spent on food falls, but the amount of money that expend on food might increase.
Bennett s law stated that as income rises, the portion of starchy food in the diet falls. One of the
interesting things I found out in her presentation is that if an average individual has an intake calories
below 1690 1930 kcal per day, he or she is undernourished. I was shock by this information because I
used to take around 1400 kcal per day, and I am actually undernourished if by this definition. After
listened to professor Michelson s speech, I realized that feeding the people is one of the greatest
challenged worldwide. The challenge is not only

fact that the study of fashion design is influenced by the cultural and social activities which is different
in different areas and over different time span. Designers generally try to design clothing that will not
only be functional but also pleasing aesthetically. The wearing for a garment depends on the person
who is to wear it and also the occasion it will be worn in. A wide range of patterns, styles and colors
are required to come up with perfect garment. Throughout the years the style statements, fashion
industry has changed a great deal. In this research a demographic profile of single women of Australia
within the age group of 20 to 30 years has been taken to study the experiences, values and
opportunities of these women group and a comparison has been made with the single women within
the age group of 20 to 30 years living fifty years ago in the year 1964. The differences in the cultures,
the existing society and the ethical values of the two generations have been compared along with their
fashion styles and designs. Culture and society of young Australian women of 1964 During the 1960s

Anglo Saxon Women
During the Anglo Saxons period, the culture is already diverse and I might say it is quite unique
particularly in the role of women. Anglo Saxons, I can say is the ancestor of different cultures today. I
would start with role of women. During the Anglo Saxons Period women have almost equal rights
with men. Actually, the role of the women depends on their status of life but in most cultures a woman
stays at home giving birth to children, serve her husband, a teacher, and if she is part of the aristocrats
(those who are in the highest social class), a supervisor to slaves. A woman in this era has advantages
especially in terms of marriage. An Anglo Saxon woman has the possibility to choose their husband;
possibility because during the Anglo Saxon era, marriages are negotiable but a woman could reefuse.
Since a woman can own possessions such as land and money, a woman can be bribed by an anglo
saxon man with morgengifs. It is like a dowry, it can be land, gold or such. But bribing a woman needs
a marriage contract. The man needs to go to the father of the woman with his morgengifs and they will
negotiate so that the man could marry the women. If the woman is not part of the aristocrats, she can
be a peace weaver. A peace weaver is like an offer; they are forced to marry a man from the other clan.
For example clan A has a conflict or war with clan B, a woman from clan A must marry a man from
clan B or vice versa to settle the tension between the clans. Woman that time

Identity Theory Mental States
Identity theory attempts to explain the relationship between the body and the mind. It states that some
mental states are the same as some brain states. This implies that one could group mental events like
pain, pleasure or hunger into events that correlate with physical states of the brain; for example, when
one feels pain, C fibers are firing(mason, identity theory ). However, there are many objections to this
theory. Overall, these objections are compelling and show that identity theory is weak and untrue. In
this essay, I will argue that mental states are not identical to brain states by breaking down the Identity
Theory. Identity theory groups everything the mind experiences into parcels that correlate with
physical activities in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Even if it is presumed that this disjunctive physical kinds theory is totally correct and accurate, it can
not save Identity Theory. Again, it is possible to look at the hypothetical example of an alien life form
that evolved totally differently than any life form on Earth evolved. There is no reason for c fiber
firing to equal pain in this being. C fiber firing could equate to any mental state in this hypothetical
being, from pain to love to hunger to sleepiness. There is no reason to assume that it must equate to
pain. Plus, once again, reducing and refining Identity Theory in this manner makes it less informative
and useful. As with restricting Identity Theory to specific times, disjunctive physical kinds restrict
Identity Theory to the point of absurdity and make it a theory that is in no way practical for explaining
real experiences in the world. Neither the cow nor the human nor the hypothetical alien can be
adequately described using a theory that is so

Security on the Internet Essay
Security on the Internet
Today s information is highly interconnected by the internet. With this interconnection of computer
systems through the internet comes computer crime. Breaking into computer systems, damaging
information, and stealing information, more commonly known as hacking, has become extremely
common on the internet. As hacking becomes more frequent, and as some would say, more of a
problem, should we consider hacking a criminal activity?
Information from across the world is stored on computer systems most of which are connected,
networked, to other computer systems through the internet. In the ideal situation, this interconnection
of information enables others from outside a specific computer network to access that ... Show more

Then, using flaws within the internet, JavaScript automatically downloaded whenever a user visited an
infected site that included popular search and auction destinations. That JavaScript in turn downloaded
a keystroke logging Trojan horse from another server located in Russia. The attack ended once the
Russian server was taken offline.
A second attack targeted accounts with major financial institutions, such as Citibank and Deutsche
Bank. Spread by pop up advertising, which in turn loaded malicious code, this attack uses a Browser
Helper Object (BHO), a type of file that developers frequently use to monitor Internet Explorer
sessions. In this case, whenever a user visits a banking site, just before the encrypted secure socket
layer (SSL) session starts between user and bank, the Trojan records all the POST and GET
information before it is encrypted. The Trojan then starts its own encrypted session, sending your
personal banking data to a remote server.
How could this happen? Blame monopolies. When Microsoft launched its browser war against
Netscape a few years ago, we may have all lost. By encouraging Web site developers to optimize for
Internet Explorer, (Fream, 2001) Microsoft killed off the competition by offering Web surfers flashing
images and pretty sounds. Internet Explorer now holds a commanding 95 percent of the Internet
browser market. Because of that

Nurse Ratched Psychopath
Nurse Ratched is a complex character, who has been interpreted in different ways by my fellow
classmates. Some would argue that she is psychopathic, however I have reason to believe otherwise.
Although Nurse Ratched has psychotic tendencies, I find that she is more of a socipath than
psychopath. A sociopath is an individual with blatant disregard for the lives of others and lacks
conscience, just as the Nurse does. A psychopath suffers from aggressive mental problems, much like
the character of Taber. To say that Nurse Ratched is a psychopath would imply that she is unequipped
to be the mastermind that she is. Nurse Ratched is precise and tactful when it comes to controlling her
ward, so assuming that she is psychopathic is simplifying the

He should also explain that the Ravens and the NFL as a whole organization would be moving
forward to put in place domestic policy that all players must adhere to in order to play in the league.
The new policy is the result of numerous meetings over several months among active and inactive
players, and advocates for sexual assault and domestic violence (NFL, 2014).
The new policy lays out the disciplinary actions to be taken where there is an incident that needs to be

Queer Theory Case Study
Queer theory was developed by Judith Butler in her post modern feminist text, Gender Trouble:
feminism and the subversion of identity (Horitar, 2015). She discussed the role that gender and sexual
orientation play in the way in which society uses the concepts in order to place individuals in a
specific category on the basis on how they behave (Guantlett, 1998; Horitar, 2015). This theory
examines the diverse ways in which current beliefs serves to reintegrate societal anticipations of
gender identity, appearance and sexuality, it also offers a negotiation for the fragmentation of
constructed gender categories (Horitar, 2015).
According to Western society, sex defines your particular gender (feminine or masculine) which in
turn defines your true identity, for example a biological female is considered to be a women who is
anticipated, by the society in which they live, to be more sensitive and nurturing than a man and who
needs a sensual relationship with the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Queer theory allows us to open our eyes to the various factors that nourish heteronormativity promotes
gender conventionality, heterosexuality, and family traditionalism as the correct way for people to be

Although by the end of the nineteenth century China s population has reached millions, most Chinese

Diego Rivera Historical Figures
My historical figure was Diego Rivera. He was born in Guanajuato, Mexico in 1886. Although he
traveled to different places for his profession of painting and muralisting, his birth and death place was
in Mexico, his home country.
Diego s early life consisted of school, traveling, and drawing. He was inspired by the artist Jose
Posada. At the age of ten, Diego attended the San Carlos Academy of Fine Arts in Mexico City. He
then traveled to Europe at the age of twenty one, where he was able to work with other artists.
He is known for painting art that reflects the lives of people and the environment. For example, he
would paint the lives of the working class and natives that lived in Mexico. While in Italy, Diego then
found a liking for painting murals which he brought back home to Mexico where the government
funded him to create a series of murals. These murals reflected the country s people and it s history. ...

The Main Reasons For The Fall Of Tsar Nicholas II In 1917
Was the impact of WW1 the main reason for the fall of Tsar Nicholas II in 1917?
The fall of the Romanov Dynasty in 1914 proved that the Tsar could not handle the problems of
Russia. Ironically, he would have been ideal as a constitutional monarch, but was adamant against the
idea. As the First World War started Russia s problems arises, from short term and long term causes.
The war brought back inflation which led to demonstrations over food shortages combined with
workers grievances, (Hosking, 2012, p. 91) thus this destroyed Nicholas s image as Father of Russia.
Military became ineffective as the transport system was not adequate, thus leading to food supplies
decreasing in key cities such as Petrograd. Historians believe the impacts of the First World War led to
Russian society becoming unstable and was ultimately the main reason of the downfall of the Tsar.
However other factors, such as the Tsarina placing large amounts of trust into Rasputin who was
notorious for his reputation as an alcoholic and a womanizer (Westwood, 2002, p. 215) and the role of
the revolutionaries due to Lenin promising peace, land and bread, eventually leading to the growth of
the Bolsheviks Party. Although, it can most rightfully be deemed that the impact of the war was the
main reason for the fall of Tsar Nicholas II in 1917.
The First World War was seen as a devastating impact on Tsardom and is seen as the main reason for

Assembly line From the beginning of times, most markets and products have been targeted to the
bourgeoisie and/or anyone who could easily afford these products. But in the early 1900 s, an
individual named Henry Ford, decided to change this idea and dared society to work for the success of
the proletariat and the lowering of costs. Henry Ford, along with other individuals, created the highly
praised moving assembly line and started the mind change in the targeting of markets. The assembly
line was a way in building a final product using various people that would build particular parts, and
then would assemble them together as a whole; this was a success and revolutionized the world of ...

As this was a popular vehicle, this model was mainly focused in the affordability and time it could be
produced. Along with the idea of faster productivity and affordability, another great idea that Mr. Ford
had was that if everyone earned a decent wage, and he produced more cars in less time at an
affordable price, then everyone in the country would buy his cars. Focusing on the middle class
clientele, their affordability, and his own workers to buy his own products, he decided to raise the
workers wages from $2.50 to $5.00 overnight, virtually making him a hero to all middle class
workers, because he gave the working class an open door of opportunities to grow and buy. In Henry
Ford s times, pay was presumably highly significant for job satisfaction, and people did not mind
working at the assembly line if they were well paid. This was an excellent business tactic, because this
triggered his workers, and other middle class people, to buy his cars. The affordability of these, and
the massive demand the Model T (final mastered product), made the Ford Company massively grow
in a matter of years, and helped the U.S. economy raise in an enormous way. The demand among the
middle class, and affordability of products, were in fact one of the causes that drove the economy to
grow in the early 1900 s, and made the assembly line successful. As business was growing, more
factory workers were needed

Analysis Of Rappaccini s Daughter By Nathaniel...
At first glance, Rappaccini s Daughter, by Nathaniel Hawthorne, is a tragic love story that ends in the
death of one man s true love and another man s daughter. But underneath, there is a dark undercurrent
that is characteristic of the Gothic Romantic strain. This is not so much a story of love and loss as it is
of two scientists desire to come out on top and conquer all who try to stop them. It is a tale of man s
struggle to control nature and gain knowledge beyond that which we are supposed to have. It
highlights a man who seeks to have a deep understanding of Nature s secrets. It is Rappiccini s desire
for this knowledge that causes a rivalry with another scientist. In the end, his obsession is what
eventually takes everything he loved away from him in a fashion characteristic of the Gothic
Romantic strain. The Gothic Romantic writers primarily focus on the darker side of things. Nature is a
destroyer. Additionally, the hero/heroine is solitary and often controlled by extreme emotions. There
are characters who attempt to gain absolute knowledge of Nature and bend that knowledge to their
will so they can essentially become like God. These themes are quite prevalent in Rappaccini s
Daughter. One of the characters, Giovanni Guasconti, is alone in Naples. Beatrice has absorbed the
poisons from the plants around her. This effectively cuts her off from the rest of the world. Her very
touch harms the skin of the other person (12). When Giovanni first

The Global Sportswear Sector Operates In The Global Apparel
The global sportswear sector operates in the global apparel and footwear industry that recorded
worldwide sales worth $1.67 trillion in 2016 (Businesswire, 2017). Out of this, the sales of sportswear
items accounted for 7% with most of the sales coming from the U.S. and emerging markets in
Thailand and India (Businesswire, 2017). Besides, the industry employs more than 75 million people
globally working in apparel, footwear and sportswear sectors (ILO, 2015). The growth the global
sportswear sales can be attributed to the growth in popularity in healthy lifestyles as more people in
the developed and emerging economies engage in physical activities hence increasing the demand for
sportswear. Sportswear refers to the apparel that people use ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

In the report, suppliers of leading brands like Puma, Nike, Adidas and Reebok have forced their
employees to work overtime and denied them the rights to form trade unions. In addition, some of the
workers work without being paid while others are underpaid after working for long hours (Clean
Clothes Campaign, 2004).
Similar findings were also reported by the Play Fair (2008) report. The report findings showed that
workers manufacturing sportswear items in form of apparel, footwear and soccer balls faced similar
problems. These include: abuse of employment contracts, violation to the freedom of association and
collective bargaining, and employment insecurity. Consequently, workers who attempt to form trade
unions are dismissed, denied the chance to negotiate and the facilities with unionized workers get
closed. In addition, the rise in factory closures has led to job insecurity among workers and this
reduces the likelihood of workers to seek better employment conditions. The Play Fair report also
argued that buyers tend to disregard facilities that are compliant with labor practices and such facilities
end up being shut down (2008). The report also highlighted the rise in short term employment
contracts and precarious employment that undermine labor regulations and the rights of workers to
social security and freedom of association (Play Fair, 2008).

Womanhood In Toni Morrison s Sula
Sula is such a complicated character that it is difficult to define her. She is an unusual child that
matures into a determined woman, resisting suppression and hatred from the community in which she
lives. She is neither positive nor idealistic, and refuses to place herself in a space where she will be
relegated as the other of the other . Her complex characteristics and unusual behavior consistently
deconstructs and questions stereotypical images of black womanhood and womanhood in general. Her
description of black women is realistic and varied. Embodying autonomy, curiosity, irregularity,
passion and danger, she represents the new black woman who challenges social norms and determines

The Neo Traditional Family Structure Essay
The neo traditional family structure is subsiding and is being replaced by the now more popular
egalitarian family structure. Before the neo traditional family structure was considered ideal, with one
sole financial provider for the family (usually the male), but this family structure is more difficult to
maintain because t is difficult for one person o be the breadwinner; also, the unfinished revolution has
also led to viewing this family structure as unappealing because it can be limiting for one spouse
(usually the woman). Thus, egalitarian family structures are now becoming more popular, as:
household work, childcare, and financial contribution is more equally divided between the two
partners. However, I learned that many still hold some neo traditional values, more so the males in my
sample than did the females. Initially, I thought that culture would be the largest determining in a
persons desired family structure, but the data showed otherwise. For instance, I thought that
underrepresented minorities, such as, Latinos and African Americans would hold more neo traditional
views simply because of culture. Interestingly, I learned from my analysis that this was not necessarily
the case; instead, I found that many of the participants had intermixed components of both neo
traditional family structure and an egalitarian family structure. Many of their responses contradicted
with their desired family structure. I think that this mentality is leading to new hybrid family

The Tragedy Of Vladimir Lenin And The Rise Of Joseph Stalin
Some of the most tragic moments in Russian history occurred during the tumultuous period between
the death of Vladimir Lenin and the rise of Joseph Stalin during the 1930s. This was a time of massive
devastation during which almost 5 million peasants died of starvation due to the failures of collective
farming. Thousands of men and women were also falsely accused of anti patriotism and sent to
Siberian labor camps in which they experienced rampant disease, physical and emotional abuse, and
often execution. Vasily Grossman endeavors to discern who is to blame for these injustices through his
novel Everything Flows . Grossman s main character, Ivan, has just been released from almost a thirty
year imprisonment following the death of Stalin. Through Ivan s recollections of camp life and
assimilation into Post Stalinist Russia, Grossman reveals the forces he believes are at fault. However,
his understanding of this guilt is far more complex as revealed through the means by which he
evaluates the culpable factors. Grossman uses a method of assessment similar to a bottom up analysis
by beginning with the individual elements of the Communist Party and progressing to a larger holistic
view of Russian civilization. This method allows for multiple factors to bear some of the blame
without undue bias holding one entirely accountable. Thus, Grossman is arguing that the slave identity
embedded in Russian history was responsible for the development of certain characteristics in Lenin s

Austen s Diverse Presentations of Marriage Proposals in...
It is a truth universally acknowledged that a single man in possession of a good fortune must be in
want of a wife. These are the infamous first words of Jane Austen s Pride and prejudice. It is a
beautiful, semi epistolary romance novel about the love and relationships in Regency Britain, set in a
fictional town called Meryton in Hertfordshire. It also tells a story about how even the most perceptive
people can quickly and wrongly judge people as proud or unloving, when in fact, they are just shy and
unable and unsure of how to communicate their feelings to each other. The Bennet family has five
daughters, the beautiful and elegant eldest, Jane, the intelligent and strong willed Elizabeth, the
uptight Mary and the two youngest, Kitty ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
His best friend Charles Bingley on the other hand is care free and falls in love at first sight of Jane. He
is not quite so rich or handsome, but is friendly and well mannered which brings him friends wherever
he goes.
The representations of marriage in Pride and Prejudice are varied from being out of spite, lust and
vengeance to being full of love, respect and infatuation. Chapter nineteen brings the first proposal, the
unwanted prospect of marriage to Mr. Collins. When Mr. Collins asks Mrs. Bennet for a private
audience with her daughter, Elizabeth anticipates what is coming and tries to excuse herself with the
excuse that will not only get her away from him, but she also tries to show her mother that she is not
interested in a man like him. ...I beg you will not go. Mr. Collins must excuse me. He can have
nothing to say to me that anybody need not hear. I am going away myself. But, this comes to no avail.
In his speech, Mr. Collins presents three main ideas that he thinks represents marriage. His first motive
is that he thought that he should, as a clergyman, set an example to his parish of who and when to
marry. His second motive was that he thinks that it will make him happy. I am convinced that will add
very greatly to my happiness. Here, Austen uses My not Our, so that Elizabeth gets a full
understanding that he doesn t love her at all, and so makes it easier to reject him. It also shows how
insignificant marriage is in his

Biblical And Mythological Allusions Of Moby Dick
Moby Dick is Herman Melville s masterpiece, a purposeful novel that acts both as a documentary of a
sea voyage but also a philosophical allusion on life as a whole. Moby Dick is far beyond its time in
reference to its use of allusion within its text. In this novel, Herman Melville frequently uses biblical
and mythological allusions. With these strategic allusions, the reader is able to begin to understand the
topics of discussion within the book and is also exposed to the wisdom and potential knowledge
Melville possesses. Melville uses many Biblical and mythological references in the form of character
stories, which I found beneficial in helping interpret the texts meaning (Howard, 27). This paper will
discuss the Biblical and Mythological allusions that Melville s use in Moby Dick in the hopes to
develop a deeper understanding of the issues Melville was hoping to address. An Allusion is a brief
and indirect reference to a well known person, place, thing, cultural, historical, or literary work
(Delahunty, 24). As Described by Andrew Delahunty in the Oxford Dictionary of Reference and
Allusion, allusions form a colorful extension to the English language, drawing on our collective
knowledge of literature, mythology, and the Bible to help us connect and interpret literature (26).
Though an allusion is used to reference something significant, it does not describe in detail the person
or thing to which it is referring too. Writers often use allusions as just a passing comment

The Great Flood Of 1889
Also known as the Great Flood of 1889, the Johnstown flood occurred when a local man made dam
failed, unleashing millions of gallons of water and causing utter destruction in its wake.
On May 31st, 1889, at around 3:10 p.m., about 14 miles from Johnstown, PA, the South Fork Dam
was overcome by several structural shortcomings and failed. This allowed millions of gallons of water
to surge through the Conemaugh Valley, leaving little in its wake (NPS).
There were a total of 111 days of rainfall within the year preceding the dam s failure. This level of
rainfall was very unusual for the community of Johnstown, let alone the entire state of Pennsylvania.
Just before the dam broke, 6 8 inches of rain had fallen throughout the region, turning ... Show more

These changes had disastrous effects on the structure of the dam (ASDSO).
As large amount of rain fell, debris began to collect in the mesh netting, contributing to rising water
levels, as the spillway was blocked (ASDSP).
The lack of an underlying water relief system, as the previous one had not been replaced after the
reconstruction, increased the pressure of the reservoir (ASDSO).
The pressure of the added volume compromised the structure of the dam and it overtopped. The
structure was overcome and the dam burst (ASDSO).
Due to the nature of this dam break, the water traveled at high velocity estimated at 64 km/hr or about
40 mph (National Geographic).
The average amount of water discharged was around 318,000 cubic feet per second (JAHA).
The flood killed approximately 2,209 people. This included 396 children and 99 local families (Begos,
2014).
As many as 750 corpses remained in river towns downstream and Johnstown morgues awaiting family
identification, which never happened (Begos, 2014).
1,600 homes were lost and whole communities were swept away (Begos, 2014).
Trains were dislodged from their tracks and were swept downstream about 4,000 feet (JFM, 2013).

Benefits Of Big Data Analytics On Business Performance
The benefits of big data analytics on business performance
Why Big Data Is a Big Deal . Big data is a logo used to describe a massive volume of both structured
(is information already managed by the organization in relational databases ) and unstructured data (is
information that is unorganized and does not fall into a pre determined model) that is so large it is
difficult to process using traditional database and software techniques. In most companies, the volume
of data is too big or it moves too fast or it exceeds current processing capacity. Despite these
problems, big data has the potential to help companies improve operations and make faster, more
intelligent decisions.
Moreover companies that implement Big data analytics application gain tangible benefits in their
finance department, sales department, and human resources department. Financial statements (i.e.
Balance Sheet, Cash Flow, and income statement) are the summarized results of the company s
operations. To produce those statements, large volumes of structured and nanostructured data which
come from multiple heterogeneous sources must be swiftly linked, connected, and correlated.
However, those activities can t be done by using traditional databases. For that reason, the company
implemented an advanced technology called big data analytical tool (Business Object). For example,
Financial Statements must be displayed on the CEO dashboards instantly all the time. To be able to

Conformity In The Film Without My Daughter
Refusing forced conformity can lead to consequences, and an individual can never conform to
anything, without defecting another.
The well known director Brian Gilbert conveyed and explored the theme of conformity in one of his
memorable movies Without my daughter . The movie is extracted from a real life story of Betty
Mahmoody and her daughter Mahtob Mahmoody. The storyline of the movie revolves around an
American couple, the husband is from an Iranian background and he hasn t visited his home country

His idea was conveyed and explored in many scenes of the movie. One of the scenes is when Moody s
father wakes him up early every morning to perform the morning prayer that is unbreakable part of the
muslim tradition. Techniques such as facial expressions, dialogue and the tone of voice are used to
express this idea. When Betty in a sleepy tone asks her husband to stay in bed, You ve been getting up
early every morning. Don t go. He replied to her angrily by saying; What s the matter with you? We re
with my family. They re Sayyeds direct descendants of Mohammed. Of course, to a sophisticated
American that must seem primitive. Betty s facial expression were filled with sadness and pure
confusion as she couldn t identify the reason behind her husband s reaction and words. This shows
that Moody was conforming to his family and religion, however he wasn t conforming to his old
lifestyle in America. Also when Betty asked him to stay, she wasn t conforming to the Islamic religion
and tradition. Again Gilbert achieved his goal clearly when he showed live evident of conformity in
the movie, and this further extents the confirmation of the idea that an individual can never conform to

religion would find itself arriving in China in the midst of the Han Dynasty. In China, there were
many different views of the religion as it arrived and spread throughout the country. There were two
main responses to the religion. One response was that Buddhism could stand alongside other Chinese
religions and philosophies such as Confucianism, as it could do a lot of good for China; while another
view was that Buddhism had no place in China, as it came from foreign people and was barbaric,

pleasures is sorrow, that sorrow arises from cravings which we have, including the craving for power
and the craving for a prolonged life. He goes on to say that the only way to end this suffering, to be
enlightened and reach nirvana is by ending these sorrows (Doc. 1). Buddhism lays out a path to end

Political Changes In Cuba
The country of Cuba is a nation that has gone through a great amount of change throughout its history,
especially during the period of the early 1960s up through the late 1970s. However, the element of
Cuba that has gone through the most change was its politics and international relations. Cuba s politics
and international relations with North America, South America, Europe and Africa have been key
factors and the reasons why Cuba s economy, society and culture are shaped the way they are now.
The year Castro and Che Guevara defeated Fulgencio Batista, Fidel took control of Cuba and crowned
himself the new prime minister of his country. The successful revolution represented one of the most
profound social transformations ever seen in the Americas (Strug, 68). Cuba, a country that has always

Osteoarthritis Research Papers
When something bad happens, you have three choices. You can let it define you, let it destroy you, or
you can let it strengthen you (Unknown). Osteoarthritis (OA) occurs when the cartilage cushioning the
joints breaks down and causes the bones to rub together, inducing a change in shape. Not only is
osteoarthritis a leading cause of disability in people over 50 years of age, it is the most common form
of degenerative joint disease. It can be a very debilitating form of arthritis in that it tends to affect the
load bearing joints, especially the hips and knees, that are crucial for normal movement. There are
currently 27 million Americans living with osteoarthritis, all of whom have to decide between

The BioPen allows surgeons to repair damaged bone and cartilage by drawing new cells directly onto
bone in the middle of surgery. The pen has a bio ink comprised of stem cells inside a biopolymer such
as alginate (a seaweed extract) which is in turn protected by a second layer of hydrogel. Once on the
bone surface, the ink is hardened using a UV light embedded in the pen. Once they are drawn onto the
bone, they will proliferate in the patient s body, differentiating into nerve, muscle and bone cells and
eventually being established as tissue. The technique could reform how surgeons repair cartilage. For
certain types of injuries, it s difficult for surgeons to discern the exact shape of the area requiring an
implant, making it tricky to design an artificial cartilage implant before surgery. With the BioPen,
surgeons could simply use the hydrogel solution to fill in the damaged area. The cell solution could
also be further customized by adding drugs to boost healing and regrowth. Hopefully, these type of
innovations can change patients from being defined by their pain to being able to live healthier lives.
Although patients with OA experience joint pain and stiffness, it is important that they maintain
lifestyles that will strengthen muscles around the joint. Aerobic and resistance training can aid these
symptoms. Fortunately, scientists are currently working to fix the crux of the issue by directly
regenerating cartilage that can integrate within the body and establish a secure matrix. Perhaps in the
future, osteoarthritis will cease to be a certainty in life and merely act as precaution to respect the
limits of our

Revenge In Edgar Allen Poe s The Cask Of Amontillado
The Cask of Amontillado by Edgar Allen Poe tells the tale of a man that is wronged and avenges this
wrong in the most sinister way possible. After being insulted by a man named Fortunato, the narrator
[vows] revenge but more specifically wants to punish with impunity (qtd. in Meyer 536), this is the
primary conflict in the story: the narrators hope to avenge this insult without getting caught. The
narrator creates an elaborate scheme to murder Fortunato, but never explicitly states what Fortunato
did to insult him. The narrator uses Fortunato s weakness for wine and lures him into the catacombs of
the Montresors (qtd. in Meyer 537). Montresor plays to Fortunato s pride and tells him he has come
into possession of a bottle of Amontillado, a rare wine, and would like for Fortunato to use his
extensive wine knowledge to see if the wine is genuine or not. The climax of the story is the moment
at which Fortunato is chained to the wall of the catacombs. Under his ploy, Montresor is able to get
Fortunato into the deepest part of the catacombs where he has set up supplies to bury Fortunato alive
behind a brick wall. Poe builds suspense in the story through Montresor s slow reveal of his plan.

Why The Texans Were Victorious At San Jacinto
The field was set, both generals decided upon where they would take their final rest before the battle.
The spring of 1836 in soon to be a free Texas, the weather was warm with a slight breeze on this day
the 21st of April. One army fueled with rage for revenge and the other just searching for their reasons
to keep marching on this far against an inferior army. The Texas revolution may have begun with the
battle of Gonzales, but through sheer determination and resiliency how a ragtag army were victorious
at the battle of San Jacinto. A victory which would shape the history of Mexico, Texas, United States
and the world. To understand why the Texans were victorious at San Jacinto, you cannot purely just
look at the battle itself, but at the tactical genius of what it seems General Sam Houston had been
planning all along. General Houston had known all along that the fight against the Mexican army at
the Alamo would have been futile and though the council wanted to hold the Alamo at all costs,
Houston knew this to be unwise and this is why he sent James Bowie to destroy the fortifications and
retreat back to Gonzales. General Houston knew also that his army was not to the standard of the

  • 2. The Conflict Between Christian Faith And Those Of Islamic... As a global collective, the human past is purely one of conflict. Power struggles are widespread and unique in context, but these struggles are not special in the presence or complexity of the self versus other conflict within them. One of the strongest examples for this assertion is the First Crusades. At face value, any observer can immediately take notice of the separation between those of Christian faith and those of Islamic faith. If additional diligence in research is provided, any one of these observers begins to find the endlessly deeper self versus other struggles present on both sides, specifically amongst the Christian military. Numerous accounts from Christian actors serve to support this argument; the recorded thoughts of both soldiers and intellectuals detail the surprising amount of divisions between what should be the Christian united. The relationship between the self and the other present in the mindset of the actors of the Crusades shows that a definite, dynamic, yet necessary division between all groups of people exists, no matter the already established bonds of any collective. One of the most complicated pieces to the self versus other puzzle is the dynamic nature of its idealistic segregation. Each person involved with the First Crusade had an undeniable loyalty to God. In an effort seemingly meant to cultivate more glory, some saw it fitting to sacrifice established intercommunity bonds for the sake of peer provided glory. The glory promised by Pope ... • 3. An Analysis Of Henley s Essay Invictus Life is challenging for everyone. We will all face its difficulties eventually; whether it be something financial, like paying bills, something physical, like a bodily injury, or something emotional, like the loss of a loved one. Billions of people go through these struggles every day, maybe even you are going through something similar. Because of this, it is important for everyone to stay strong, despite the difficulties of life; because whether we like it or not, bad things will continue to happen, and collapsing under that pressure is no good for anyone. In William Ernest Henley s poem Invictus, the narrator, who is very likely the author, tells us that through all of life s difficulties, we must remain dignified, stand tall, and keep moving forward. The reason the narrator of the poem is very likely the author is because, during the time that Henley wrote this poem, he was going through some difficulties in his own life. According to the Merriam Webster s Encyclopedia of Literature, Henley was hospitalized for tuberculosis to the bone, which forced doctors to amputate both of his feet. This resulted in Henley ... Nelson Mandela, while incarcerated in Robben Island, recited the poem to the prisoners and it helped him build up the necessary patience and strength to wait out his jail sentence and then destroy apartheid in South Africa, in Winston Churchill s speech to the House of Commons in 1941 he paraphrased the last two line of the poem stating We are still the masters of our fate. We are still the captains of our souls . In pop culture we often see people who give some sort of speech that motivates you to be strong and not give up, these speeches are greatly inspired my Henley s poem since they all touch on the subject of remaining strong even though times were tough. An example of this would be in Rocky when he speaks to his son about strength, which has subtle allusions to the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The total expense of going public generally ranges from $1.5 to $2.5 million, including such significant cost items as stock exchange application and filing fees, Blue Sky fees and transfer agent and registrar expenses (Maxivest, 2005). The following chart reported by Ritter (1998), extracted from nyu.edu, depicts the average insurance an underwriting cost of the IPO process: (Ibbotson, Sindelar, amp; Ritter) As previously stated, there is a significant cost to going public; organizational leadership must weigh the benefit of the potential capital with the cost of the process. AVG Technology used a traditional IPO to go public because it is stable and they ensured they raise their desired capital. • 7. Final Reflection On Food Nourishment ACE 435 Final Reflection Jon and Rachel are awesome! Thank you all for a wonderful class! 1. Which guest speaker hosted in class this semester had the greatest impact on you? What did you learn from him/her and how might it affect your future? The topic that had the greatest impact on me is about food security by professor Michelson. In the lecture, we discussed the importance of food security, the trends of rising global food demand, factors that drives the expected demand increase, and also the relationship between income and food. The first question she came up with is why food security became such a major challenge worldwide? In my point of view, one of the simple reason is that everybody needs food. By answering this question, she introduced the definition of food security, and three hierarchical pillars. I learned that population growth, climate change, and water scarcity are some of the factor that cause food security became a problem. Also, as people become more affluent they start to change their tastes. For example, meat consumption in both developed and developing countries predict to increase while their income rise. Then we analyzed couple graph and table. In the over nourishment map, we found out that Europe, North America and Oceania seems waste the most food. In the map of meat demand driver, I learned that since two third of meat Chinese consume is pork, China actually consumes more total meat calories than US. Last but not least, professor Michelson introduced Engel s law and Bennett s law. Engel s law stated that as income increase, the portion of income spent on food falls, but the amount of money that expend on food might increase. Bennett s law stated that as income rises, the portion of starchy food in the diet falls. One of the interesting things I found out in her presentation is that if an average individual has an intake calories below 1690 1930 kcal per day, he or she is undernourished. I was shock by this information because I used to take around 1400 kcal per day, and I am actually undernourished if by this definition. After listened to professor Michelson s speech, I realized that feeding the people is one of the greatest challenged worldwide. The challenge is not only ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 9. Anglo Saxon Women During the Anglo Saxons period, the culture is already diverse and I might say it is quite unique particularly in the role of women. Anglo Saxons, I can say is the ancestor of different cultures today. I would start with role of women. During the Anglo Saxons Period women have almost equal rights with men. Actually, the role of the women depends on their status of life but in most cultures a woman stays at home giving birth to children, serve her husband, a teacher, and if she is part of the aristocrats (those who are in the highest social class), a supervisor to slaves. A woman in this era has advantages especially in terms of marriage. An Anglo Saxon woman has the possibility to choose their husband; possibility because during the Anglo Saxon era, marriages are negotiable but a woman could reefuse. Since a woman can own possessions such as land and money, a woman can be bribed by an anglo saxon man with morgengifs. It is like a dowry, it can be land, gold or such. But bribing a woman needs a marriage contract. The man needs to go to the father of the woman with his morgengifs and they will negotiate so that the man could marry the women. If the woman is not part of the aristocrats, she can be a peace weaver. A peace weaver is like an offer; they are forced to marry a man from the other clan. For example clan A has a conflict or war with clan B, a woman from clan A must marry a man from clan B or vice versa to settle the tension between the clans. Woman that time ... • 10. Identity Theory Mental States Identity theory attempts to explain the relationship between the body and the mind. It states that some mental states are the same as some brain states. This implies that one could group mental events like pain, pleasure or hunger into events that correlate with physical states of the brain; for example, when one feels pain, C fibers are firing(mason, identity theory ). However, there are many objections to this theory. Overall, these objections are compelling and show that identity theory is weak and untrue. In this essay, I will argue that mental states are not identical to brain states by breaking down the Identity Theory. Identity theory groups everything the mind experiences into parcels that correlate with physical activities in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Even if it is presumed that this disjunctive physical kinds theory is totally correct and accurate, it can not save Identity Theory. Again, it is possible to look at the hypothetical example of an alien life form that evolved totally differently than any life form on Earth evolved. There is no reason for c fiber firing to equal pain in this being. C fiber firing could equate to any mental state in this hypothetical being, from pain to love to hunger to sleepiness. There is no reason to assume that it must equate to pain. Plus, once again, reducing and refining Identity Theory in this manner makes it less informative and useful. As with restricting Identity Theory to specific times, disjunctive physical kinds restrict Identity Theory to the point of absurdity and make it a theory that is in no way practical for explaining real experiences in the world. Neither the cow nor the human nor the hypothetical alien can be adequately described using a theory that is so ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

With this interconnection of computer systems through the internet comes computer crime. Breaking into computer systems, damaging information, and stealing information, more commonly known as hacking, has become extremely common on the internet. As hacking becomes more frequent, and as some would say, more of a problem, should we consider hacking a criminal activity? Then, using flaws within the internet, JavaScript automatically downloaded whenever a user visited an infected site that included popular search and auction destinations. That JavaScript in turn downloaded a keystroke logging Trojan horse from another server located in Russia. The attack ended once the Russian server was taken offline. A second attack targeted accounts with major financial institutions, such as Citibank and Deutsche Bank. Spread by pop up advertising, which in turn loaded malicious code, this attack uses a Browser Helper Object (BHO), a type of file that developers frequently use to monitor Internet Explorer sessions. In this case, whenever a user visits a banking site, just before the encrypted secure socket layer (SSL) session starts between user and bank, the Trojan records all the POST and GET information before it is encrypted. The Trojan then starts its own encrypted session, sending your personal banking data to a remote server. How could this happen? Blame monopolies. When Microsoft launched its browser war against Netscape a few years ago, we may have all lost. By encouraging Web site developers to optimize for Internet Explorer, (Fream, 2001) Microsoft killed off the competition by offering Web surfers flashing images and pretty sounds. Some would argue that she is psychopathic, however I have reason to believe otherwise. Although Nurse Ratched has psychotic tendencies, I find that she is more of a socipath than psychopath. A sociopath is an individual with blatant disregard for the lives of others and lacks conscience, just as the Nurse does. A psychopath suffers from aggressive mental problems, much like the character of Taber. To say that Nurse Ratched is a psychopath would imply that she is unequipped to be the mastermind that she is. • 14. Queer Theory Case Study Queer theory was developed by Judith Butler in her post modern feminist text, Gender Trouble: feminism and the subversion of identity (Horitar, 2015). She discussed the role that gender and sexual orientation play in the way in which society uses the concepts in order to place individuals in a specific category on the basis on how they behave (Guantlett, 1998; Horitar, 2015). This theory examines the diverse ways in which current beliefs serves to reintegrate societal anticipations of gender identity, appearance and sexuality, it also offers a negotiation for the fragmentation of constructed gender categories (Horitar, 2015). According to Western society, sex defines your particular gender (feminine or masculine) which in turn defines your true identity, for example a biological female is considered to be a women who is anticipated, by the society in which they live, to be more sensitive and nurturing than a man and who needs a sensual relationship with the ... • 19. The Main Reasons For The Fall Of Tsar Nicholas II In 1917 Was the impact of WW1 the main reason for the fall of Tsar Nicholas II in 1917? The fall of the Romanov Dynasty in 1914 proved that the Tsar could not handle the problems of Russia. Ironically, he would have been ideal as a constitutional monarch, but was adamant against the idea. As the First World War started Russia s problems arises, from short term and long term causes. The war brought back inflation which led to demonstrations over food shortages combined with workers grievances, (Hosking, 2012, p. 91) thus this destroyed Nicholas s image as Father of Russia. Military became ineffective as the transport system was not adequate, thus leading to food supplies decreasing in key cities such as Petrograd. Historians believe the impacts of the First World War led to Russian society becoming unstable and was ultimately the main reason of the downfall of the Tsar. However other factors, such as the Tsarina placing large amounts of trust into Rasputin who was notorious for his reputation as an alcoholic and a womanizer (Westwood, 2002, p. 215) and the role of the revolutionaries due to Lenin promising peace, land and bread, eventually leading to the growth of the Bolsheviks Party. But in the early 1900 s, an individual named Henry Ford, decided to change this idea and dared society to work for the success of the proletariat and the lowering of costs. Henry Ford, along with other individuals, created the highly praised moving assembly line and started the mind change in the targeting of markets. Focusing on the middle class clientele, their affordability, and his own workers to buy his own products, he decided to raise the workers wages from $2.50 to $5.00 overnight, virtually making him a hero to all middle class workers, because he gave the working class an open door of opportunities to grow and buy. In Henry Ford s times, pay was presumably highly significant for job satisfaction, and people did not mind working at the assembly line if they were well paid. This was an excellent business tactic, because this triggered his workers, and other middle class people, to buy his cars. The affordability of these, and the massive demand the Model T (final mastered product), made the Ford Company massively grow in a matter of years, and helped the U.S. economy raise in an enormous way. • 21. Analysis Of Rappaccini s Daughter By Nathaniel... At first glance, Rappaccini s Daughter, by Nathaniel Hawthorne, is a tragic love story that ends in the death of one man s true love and another man s daughter. But underneath, there is a dark undercurrent that is characteristic of the Gothic Romantic strain. This is not so much a story of love and loss as it is of two scientists desire to come out on top and conquer all who try to stop them. It is a tale of man s struggle to control nature and gain knowledge beyond that which we are supposed to have. It highlights a man who seeks to have a deep understanding of Nature s secrets. It is Rappiccini s desire for this knowledge that causes a rivalry with another scientist. In the end, his obsession is what eventually takes everything he loved away from him in a fashion characteristic of the Gothic Romantic strain. The Gothic Romantic writers primarily focus on the darker side of things. Nature is a destroyer. Additionally, the hero/heroine is solitary and often controlled by extreme emotions. There are characters who attempt to gain absolute knowledge of Nature and bend that knowledge to their will so they can essentially become like God. These themes are quite prevalent in Rappaccini s Daughter. One of the characters, Giovanni Guasconti, is alone in Naples. Beatrice has absorbed the poisons from the plants around her. This effectively cuts her off from the rest of the world. Her very touch harms the skin of the other person (12). When Giovanni first ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 25. The Neo Traditional Family Structure Essay The neo traditional family structure is subsiding and is being replaced by the now more popular egalitarian family structure. Before the neo traditional family structure was considered ideal, with one sole financial provider for the family (usually the male), but this family structure is more difficult to maintain because t is difficult for one person o be the breadwinner; also, the unfinished revolution has also led to viewing this family structure as unappealing because it can be limiting for one spouse (usually the woman). Thus, egalitarian family structures are now becoming more popular, as: household work, childcare, and financial contribution is more equally divided between the two partners. However, I learned that many still hold some neo traditional values, more so the males in my sample than did the females. Initially, I thought that culture would be the largest determining in a persons desired family structure, but the data showed otherwise. For instance, I thought that underrepresented minorities, such as, Latinos and African Americans would hold more neo traditional views simply because of culture. Interestingly, I learned from my analysis that this was not necessarily the case; instead, I found that many of the participants had intermixed components of both neo traditional family structure and an egalitarian family structure. • 26. The Tragedy Of Vladimir Lenin And The Rise Of Joseph Stalin Some of the most tragic moments in Russian history occurred during the tumultuous period between the death of Vladimir Lenin and the rise of Joseph Stalin during the 1930s. This was a time of massive devastation during which almost 5 million peasants died of starvation due to the failures of collective farming. Thousands of men and women were also falsely accused of anti patriotism and sent to Siberian labor camps in which they experienced rampant disease, physical and emotional abuse, and often execution. Vasily Grossman endeavors to discern who is to blame for these injustices through his novel Everything Flows . Grossman s main character, Ivan, has just been released from almost a thirty year imprisonment following the death of Stalin. Through Ivan s recollections of camp life and assimilation into Post Stalinist Russia, Grossman reveals the forces he believes are at fault. However, his understanding of this guilt is far more complex as revealed through the means by which he evaluates the culpable factors. Grossman uses a method of assessment similar to a bottom up analysis by beginning with the individual elements of the Communist Party and progressing to a larger holistic view of Russian civilization. This method allows for multiple factors to bear some of the blame without undue bias holding one entirely accountable. Thus, Grossman is arguing that the slave identity embedded in Russian history was responsible for the development of certain characteristics in Lenin s ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

An Allusion is a brief and indirect reference to a well known person, place, thing, cultural, historical, or literary work (Delahunty, 24). As Described by Andrew Delahunty in the Oxford Dictionary of Reference and Allusion, allusions form a colorful extension to the English language, drawing on our collective knowledge of literature, mythology, and the Bible to help us connect and interpret literature (26). • 36. Spread Of Buddhism Dbq Essay In the sixth century B.C.E., the religion of Buddhism was founded in India. Seven centuries later, the religion would find itself arriving in China in the midst of the Han Dynasty. In China, there were many different views of the religion as it arrived and spread throughout the country. There were two main responses to the religion. One response was that Buddhism could stand alongside other Chinese religions and philosophies such as Confucianism, as it could do a lot of good for China; while another view was that Buddhism had no place in China, as it came from foreign people and was barbaric, stealing from the Chinese. One prominent response to Buddhism as it spread was that it was a good religion that could stand alongside many original Chinese ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When he does die, he will leave the earth and his spirit shall be enlightened as he enters the presence of Buddha (Doc. 2). During this time period, northern China is being invaded by steppe nomads. Much of the people living within China are undoubtedly worried about this. So, this document shows one way of how Buddhism was received, as a saving grace that could spare people from the fear of the nomads. If they do believe and follow the ways of the Buddha, then they will have salvation. The scholar likely wrote this as a way to help quell and fear in people s hearts, whether it be his own, or those of strangers. The Buddha himself agrees with the notion that Buddhism helps conquer fear, as can be seen in one of his sermons eight centuries earlier. In the sermon, he lays out the Four Noble Truths of Buddhism. He proclaims in the sermon that death is sorrow, that being separated from pleasures is sorrow, that sorrow arises from cravings which we have, including the craving for power and the craving for a prolonged life. He goes on to say that the only way to end this suffering, to be enlightened and reach nirvana is by ending these sorrows (Doc. 1). Buddhism lays out a path to end sorrow, and in China, ... • 37. Political Changes In Cuba The country of Cuba is a nation that has gone through a great amount of change throughout its history, especially during the period of the early 1960s up through the late 1970s. However, the element of Cuba that has gone through the most change was its politics and international relations. Cuba s politics and international relations with North America, South America, Europe and Africa have been key factors and the reasons why Cuba s economy, society and culture are shaped the way they are now. The year Castro and Che Guevara defeated Fulgencio Batista, Fidel took control of Cuba and crowned himself the new prime minister of his country. The successful revolution represented one of the most profound social transformations ever seen in the Americas (Strug, 68). Cuba, a country that has always been controlled by a stronger nation throughout its history, was finally free. As discussed in lecture, the United States was not happy with the success of the revolution due to the fact that they had a great deal of investments in the country of Cuba and they could no longer control the government as they once did. • 38. Osteoarthritis Research Papers When something bad happens, you have three choices. You can let it define you, let it destroy you, or you can let it strengthen you (Unknown). Osteoarthritis (OA) occurs when the cartilage cushioning the joints breaks down and causes the bones to rub together, inducing a change in shape. Not only is osteoarthritis a leading cause of disability in people over 50 years of age, it is the most common form of degenerative joint disease. It can be a very debilitating form of arthritis in that it tends to affect the load bearing joints, especially the hips and knees, that are crucial for normal movement. There are currently 27 million Americans living with osteoarthritis, all of whom have to decide between conservative or aggressive treatment. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The BioPen allows surgeons to repair damaged bone and cartilage by drawing new cells directly onto bone in the middle of surgery. The pen has a bio ink comprised of stem cells inside a biopolymer such as alginate (a seaweed extract) which is in turn protected by a second layer of hydrogel. Once on the bone surface, the ink is hardened using a UV light embedded in the pen. Once they are drawn onto the bone, they will proliferate in the patient s body, differentiating into nerve, muscle and bone cells and eventually being established as tissue. The technique could reform how surgeons repair cartilage. For certain types of injuries, it s difficult for surgeons to discern the exact shape of the area requiring an implant, making it tricky to design an artificial cartilage implant before surgery. With the BioPen, surgeons could simply use the hydrogel solution to fill in the damaged area. The cell solution could also be further customized by adding drugs to boost healing and regrowth. Hopefully, these type of innovations can change patients from being defined by their pain to being able to live healthier lives. Although patients with OA experience joint pain and stiffness, it is important that they maintain lifestyles that will strengthen muscles around the joint. Aerobic and resistance training can aid these symptoms. Fortunately, scientists are currently working to fix the crux of the issue by directly regenerating cartilage that can integrate within the body and establish a secure matrix. Perhaps in the future, osteoarthritis will cease to be a certainty in life and merely act as precaution to respect the limits of our ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 39. Revenge In Edgar Allen Poe s The Cask Of Amontillado The Cask of Amontillado by Edgar Allen Poe tells the tale of a man that is wronged and avenges this wrong in the most sinister way possible. After being insulted by a man named Fortunato, the narrator [vows] revenge but more specifically wants to punish with impunity (qtd. in Meyer 536), this is the primary conflict in the story: the narrators hope to avenge this insult without getting caught. The narrator creates an elaborate scheme to murder Fortunato, but never explicitly states what Fortunato did to insult him. The narrator uses Fortunato s weakness for wine and lures him into the catacombs of the Montresors (qtd. in Meyer 537). Montresor plays to Fortunato s pride and tells him he has come into possession of a bottle of Amontillado, a rare wine, and would like for Fortunato to use his extensive wine knowledge to see if the wine is genuine or not. The climax of the story is the moment at which Fortunato is chained to the wall of the catacombs. Under his ploy, Montresor is able to get Fortunato into the deepest part of the catacombs where he has set up supplies to bury Fortunato alive behind a brick wall. Poe builds suspense in the story through Montresor s slow reveal of his plan. Although the reader is aware he plans to take revenge we are not aware of the severity until later in the story. The main character, Montresor, is presented to us as an educated and intelligent man. Poe uses the showing method of characterization through Montresor s speech and inner ... The spring of 1836 in soon to be a free Texas, the weather was warm with a slight breeze on this day the 21st of April. One army fueled with rage for revenge and the other just searching for their reasons to keep marching on this far against an inferior army. The Texas revolution may have begun with the battle of Gonzales, but through sheer determination and resiliency how a ragtag army were victorious at the battle of San Jacinto. A victory which would shape the history of Mexico, Texas, United States and the world. To understand why the Texans were victorious at San Jacinto, you cannot purely just look at the battle itself, but at the tactical genius of what it seems General Sam Houston had been planning all along. General Houston had known all along that the fight against the Mexican army at the Alamo would have been futile and though the council wanted to hold the Alamo at all costs, Houston knew this to be unwise and this is why he sent James Bowie to destroy the fortifications and retreat back to Gonzales. General Houston knew also that his army was not to the standard of the Mexican army in ways of drilling and moving in battle formations and he needed time to train the army and prepare them for battles. General Houston was trying to form an army from the men that were spread across the lands. The council kept sending men on expeditions with groups of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
