The Importance Of African Culture In Chinua Achebe s...
Chinua Achebe s most well known novel Things Fall Apart was defined by many as a modern piece of
African literature that was truly African. It became a major contribution to literature around the world.
The novel revolves around an Ibo village in Nigeria. The inclusion of African culture, such as the
language, stories, and way of life, create depth and dimension and are essential to the telling of the Ibo
story by Achebe. The certain Ibo words included in the novel help develop a taste for true African
culture. Without these words, Achebe would not have been able to explain himself as well as he did.
The words that are used in the english language differ greatly from the words used in Ibo language.
Achebe illustrates this when he writes, That was how Okonkwo first came to know that agbala was
not only another name for a woman, it could also mean a man who had taken no title (Achebe 13). In
this piece from the novel, it demonstrates that the special African word has a greater meaning than any
English word ever could. If Achebe were to just say the word woman in place of the word agabala,
many readers may become confused as to what he means. The word choice establishes what true
African culture is. The author demonstrates this principle of the difference of language on many
occasions throughout the novel such as, This man told him that the child was an ogbanje, one of those
wicked children who, when they died, entered their mothers wombs to be born again (Achebe 77) and

Eulogy For Grandmother
Jesse sat cross legged on the floor in Nana s library with a perplexed frown as she studied the book on
her lap. She was only sixteen, but the circumstances of her life had made her wiser than her years. She
had been orphaned at the age of two and her grandmother, whom she adored and affectionately called
Nana, was the one person in her life she could always count on. Well, that was until just a couple of
months ago when Nana had died after a long struggle with cancer. She had been seventy six, but Jesse
had thought of her as the youngest, old person she knew. While living with Nana, she had grown into a
lanky teenager with long, straight black hair, usually pulled back into a ponytail, and eyes so
piercingly blue that she could make ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

college with a doctorate in psychology. It had always been her plan to move back home and into her
grandmother s house after college. However, she had been offered an incredible opportunity in New
York that she just couldn t refuse. She knew her grandmother would be beaming with approval.
Funding had been made available for building and organizing a dozen women s shelters in New York.
The terms of the anonymous benefactor s offer had been very specific: The position is only available
to an individual qualified to provide professional counseling, who has the necessary skills to supervise
construction, and a desire to manage the operation of the shelters once completed. The unspoken, but
clearly necessary condition, was that they had to be willing to live in New York, the intended location
of all the shelters. As if by divine intervention, a developer had made a very reasonable offer for her

Portia, The Merchant Of Venice
Portia, The Merchant of Venice
Do you agree that Portia is a memorable character in the play The Merchant of Venice?
In the play The Merchant of Venice, there are many female characters who face injustice alone in
society. Portia as many seemingly paradoxical identities. This makes her a memorable character in the
play The Merchant of Venice. She has represented being dutiful towards her father, being an innocent
young woman, a mortal breathing saint who posses god like amity , a hard headed and calculating
lawyer who is fully conversant with the tricks of the legal trade, and is advocate of mercy who
ruthlessly destroys Shylock.
Portia is not a memorable character because amongst her god like amity and her mortal breathing saint
personality, she also portrays a deceitful character through her complex personality. Portia s
personality is superficial. Her evaluation of her suitors is both articulate and scathing; Portia
deconstructs each man with a kind of clinical precision, seeming to take particular pleasure in
questioning their masculinity. God made him, and therefore let him pass as a man; (1.2.50). This quote
reveals Portia s conception of masculinity seems to have little to do with mere anatomy. The French
Lord, she says, though he posses the outward signs of masculinity, plays a man s part poorly that only
God s intent allows him to be considered one. She apparently believes herself to have superior
judgement of what make a truly masculine man. Though her

The Experience Side Of Consciousness
Consciousness is part biology, ...each state of consciousness is composed of a number of basic
psychological processes such as memory, thought, sense of time, body perception and the senses of
hearing, smell, taste, and so on , and part experience. (Wilber 52) I am going to focus on the
experience side of consciousness because it is less concrete than the genetic side. It is a concept that is
socially constructed to define an abstract phenomenon. Consciousness is the awareness of being
conscious. A theory that I believe, regarding why humans seek out altered states/consciousness, is an
evolutionary speculation. Charles Whitehead, in Altered Consciousness in Society, writes that humans

Lines of development are ...areas of knowledge that we acquire as we grow from childhood into
adulthood (Combs 35). The Spiral Dynamics of Culture chart starts at the Magical and Animistic stage
of development. Stages are typically associated with age, a child is likely to be in the Magical and
Animistic stage and believe in mystical signs, like having an imaginary friends, with great focus on
safe clans, nests, and powerful elders . A developing child who has aged and progressed from the
Magical and Animistic period is likely to be associated with the next stage, the Impulsive and
Egocentric . This includes raw power displays, immediate pleasure, and attention seeking behavior .
The Impulsive and Egocentric period is considered more developed than the stage prior. It is important
to note that people are unable to skip stages, one must endure each period, which will allow them to
have the mental capacities to enter the next developmental phase. This can be defined as the fulcrum,
the cause for people to move from one stage to another. The next phase, Purposeful and Authoritarian ,
is supposedly where the average US citizen stands on the spectrum. (Walden Lecture 11/15/16)
Aspects of this developmental period include only one right way, sacrifice for honor, and orders from

speaker in each poem tells the parents what they should expect from their child. The speaker in the
poem, Ode on the Whole Duty of Parents , talks about how parents should be there for their children
when they are needed and the speaker of How to Change a Frog Into a Prince talks about how parents

relationship between the parent and their child. The message of the poem Ode on the Whole Duty of
Parents is that being wise with their children has a huge impact on their relationship between them.
Whereas the message in the poem How to Change a Frog into a prince is that patience for their

poem talks about how the parents should teach them everything possible and be near them all the time

During the industrial revolution, the nuclear family was considered the norm, consisting of a mother
and father living together with two biologically related children. Traditionally, the wife stayed home
as the homemaker and looking after the children without pay. While the husband earns the money
through working at a job away from the home. Furze (2015 p. 174) states that in the 1940s and 1950s,
many sociologists and the general communities of Western countries such as Australia and New
Zealand considered the traditional nuclear family the most widespread and ideal family form.
Additionally, backing this statement up Fletcher (2017) claims that from a functionalist perspective
the nuclear family is ideally suited to meet the necessities

1. Briefly explain the five choices speakers can make. How do these elements determine a speech s
success or failure?
The five choices a speaker can make involves creativity, preparation, style, delivery method, and
retention. Creativity is generating resources during learning and examination while offering a
conclusion so that the concepts of the speech are supported distinctly. Preparation is arranging

Having the elements of a clear tone, captivating, educational, or motivating speech, and the proper
body language gives the impression of bonding with the speaker and the audience. Compassion and
consideration is important when delivering the speech to the audience. This provides the audience
with the sense that the speaker understands exactly what he or she is speaking about and possibly feel
the exact way about the speech being delivered.
3. What is the difference between hearing and listening? What are some strategies you could employ
to improve your listening skills? What does it mean to listen critically?
When sound waves are transformed by the electrochemical impulses into the brain, the wonderful
sense of hearing is experienced. Listening is actually paying attention to the speaker and
understanding what was said. Hearing is being able to hear what is said but not understand the
meaning of the speech. Hearing and listening are essential elements to comprehending and
determining what was recently received by the audience. Here are some methods to enhance the
listening environment for the audience involves: minimizing potential disturbances, divert the

The Best Selling Garment Of All Time
Marked the best selling garment of all time , denim has been a key participant in the evolution of
popular culture (Weber 2006). Originally making its public debut appearance within the mining
sectors in the mid 1800s, denim has become a product of globalization, as it gained both attention and
wear by billions (Foreman 2015). As various styles have evolved from denim, jeans have deemed
consistency throughout popular culture movements, withstanding the test of time. Not only has denim
broken barriers of age, class, and race, but the way in which jeans have been altered is a direct product
of popular culture, carried out via youth subcultures.
Why study something as acquisitive as denim when examining theories of popular culture, particularly
when trends come and go? British media theorist and sociologist Dick Hebdige is distinguished for his
popular culture studies, as he is labeled as the primary popular culture reference maker. His research
via sociological analysis has paved the way for proceeding theorists to further explore the complexity
of popular culture movements. Denim, however, is unique in the sense that the evolution of this single
garment has disrupted orthodox societal structures not only in its country of origin, but also globally.
Its invention and circulation epitomize the exchange and intersection of cultural studies, allure a wide
audience, and exemplify both political and economic societal shifts.

Switzerland Is A Federalist State, Where The Power Is Divided
Switzerland is a federalist state, where the power is divided between the three levels: the
Confederation, the cantons, and the communes. The way Switzerland handles matters is through the
principle of subsidiarity, where a smaller branch of the government can handle issues and solve them,
instead of having the more powerful branch of government handle those issues. In Switzerland, the
people hold the most power, which allows the people to vote on the country s issues and voice their
opinions to each of the individual parts of the political systems. The confederation, the highest of the
three political systems, handles duties relating to foreign and security policy, customs and monetary

Makeup, Beauty, Makeup, Disney, And Dreams
When someone asks me, a teenager, what 3 things I love or interest me I reply with makeup, anything
Disney, and dreams. The reason I love all these things is because they all correspond with one another.
Disney is where all your dreams come true, makeup is a thing that you put on to make yourself look
and feel like a dream. Disney is all about crazy makeup to make people look a certain way for
characters such as, villains, heroes, and damsels in distress, for you to remember them, maybe even in
your dreams. Makeup is a way to define your features and make you feel more beautiful like the girls
in Disney movies.
Makeup only used to be for men and women to enhance their beauty. Now makeup is still used for
that very same reason but it s for themselves, because they aren t trying to impress anyone but
themselves. From 3000 B.C. men wore wigs and makeup to make them more eye catching. All women
would use makeup to make themselves prettier and so did men. The egyptians were the first people to
create cosmetics. They wore it for special occasions like festivals or celebrations. They also would put
themselves at risk because of the things they were putting on there face to make them look more
beautiful. Things like: using burnt matches for eyeliner, they would use berries for their lip stains, they
would try to make their face paler (because it was deemed more beautiful that way) with leeches,
arsenic, mercury and lead (Gardner). They didn t have to do that though because Disney

Integrative Approach For Counseling And Its Effects On...
Integrative Approach to Counseling
Key Concepts
The central idea in an integrative approach to counseling is one of a patient s ability to affect their life
through the choices they make. William Glasser suggests most people s unhappiness stems from the
lack of meaningful relationships, and most relationships are either successful or a disaster based on the
choices we make (Corey, 2013). Patients are able to positively or negatively impact their mental well
being by making choices that deepen their interpersonal relationships.
Expanding on Glasser s ideas, existentialism and the choices it offers, gives an individual the
opportunity to experience freedom. They are no longer tied to a deterministic view of life, but are
instead given license to create the life they wish to have, unencumbered by the weight of societal,
cultural, or familial expectations (Corey, 2013).
Both choice theory and existentialism closely mirror ideas taught in Protestant Christianity: people are
free to make choices about their behavior and lifestyle, and all choices have an outcome. That
outcome can be positive (salvation), or negative (damnation). If one believes the rules as explained in
the Bible, the outcome of one s life rests in their choices.
Counselor s role
In most cases, the counselor will best serve their client by taking on a not knowing role in the
relationship, allowing the client to become the expert in their own lives (Corey, 2013).

Essay on Medieval Art
In the art world, the medieval periods were traditionally though to be the unproductive phase of
Europe between the decline of Rome and the Renaissance. Our modern feelings toward medieval art
are far more appreciative. The main intent of Medieval art was to express Christianity which was also
a common bond between a wide spread and diverse Europe. For this reason most of the art found from
medieval times originated in monasteries and churches. European art during the Middle Ages can be
divided into four periods. These four periods include Celto Germanic art which ranged from 400 to
800 A.D. and was important in metal work. Carolingian art ranged from 750 to 987 A.D. overlapping
50 years of the Celto Germanic period. The period of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A major difference between the two was that Carolingian architects used stone only for important
buildings such as churches and castles. Their buildings and plans for unfinished buildings show that a
major factor in Carolingian architecture was length. This was both appealing to the eye and practical,
leaving room for extra altars and separate entries. The Carolingian style is of small dimensions. Most
of this style pulls its influence from Byzantine artwork. An explanation for the sudden change from
Celto Germanic styling can be attributed to the new minuscule form of writing, remarkable for its
clarity and form (Pioch). Metal work from this time period is rare although writings tell us that
goldsmiths and enamel workers remained active.
Romanesque The art of the Romanesque period was characterized by the revival of sculptures and
fresco painting. These were common elements of architecture. Along with those architectural
advancements the period produced frequent examples of realism as well as a heightened emphasis on
emotion and fantasy. The crusades acted as a main contributor to this time period lending more
religious and revolutionary imagery. Examples of Romanesque sculpture are dated back to the last
decade of the eleventh century and then first decades of the twelfth. The primary source of artistic
patronage was provided by the monastic

The Advantages and Disadvantages of Australian Aid
Advantages and Disadvantages of Aid to Australia Geography Essay
The purpose of Australian Aid is to help developing countries around the world eradicate poverty and
to promote stability and prosperity both in our region and beyond, by providing different types of
assistance and financial support. Although Australia receives a number of benefits due to aid, several
disadvantages can also arise as a result of this link with different countries.
Providing aid to developing countries in the Asia Pacific region allows the countries to develop

Therefore, the recipient countries over reliance on Australian aid money places a strain on the
Australian economy, as well as the risk of witnessing a downfall of a nearby nation, which could result
in the endangerment of Australia s national security.
An additional advantage of aid is that it provides Australia with strengthened diplomatic, economic
and political ties to the recipient countries. As Australia is a prominent aid donor in the Asia Pacific
region, it has strong diplomatic ties with the developing countries of that area, and can therefore
receive the benefits from such a relationship with these countries. An example of such a relationship
would be the free trade agreements Australia signed with Singapore in 2003 and Thailand in 2005,
Australia diplomatic relationship with these nations played a large role in the securing of these two
agreements. Australia can also benefit from such a good relationship politically as the recipient
country of Australian aid can support Australia s politics. A strong relationship with a recipient nation
would also allow Australia to form economic bonds with the developing country, such as the
agreement of tied aid money were the recipient must spend some of the aid money provided by
Australia on Australia s goods and services, therefore strengthening Australia s economy. Hence,
creating and maintaining strong relationships with recipient nations of Australian aid is advantages as

Green Spaces And The City Of London
London, full with people and skyscrapers. There is concrete everywhere you look. People would have
gone crazy with concrete madness if there were not green spaces. Green spaces are essential for the
city and humans living in the city. Without it, people in the city would have been serious ill or even
dead because of the smog. So, it is very important that London cares for it s green spaces. London is
too big to be maintained by itself, that is why there are boroughs. Each borough maintains it own
space. Of course, each of the boroughs has it s own strategy. Two of the boroughs were particularly
interesting, because of the biodiversity and the strategy of the borough to maintain and enhance green
space.
The first borough is the City of London (as you can see above). There are many (somewhat tiny) green
spaces in the City of London, that are scattered and divided by streets and tall buildings. The historic
value of these green spaces is magnificent. Here were the first settlements of London around the
Roman era. Some of the pieces of the City wall of the Roman Londonium still stand today. The City
of London does not want to destroy such value, that is why the green spaces of the City of London are
around those objects with historic value. Many offices and companies are located in the City of
London, as well as restaurants and bars. The green spaces are mainly used by workers to rest after
work or to relax and eat something in the break. Although, the non humans are

Ergonomics is a scientific discipline that deals with the research and understanding between the

to optimize human performance, safety, habitability and health with regard to the design and
evaluation of tasks, products, environments and jobs in a performance system (James H. and Stramler,

According to Carroll (cognitive view), there are two aspects of system design (Carroll, 1991). The
first is the process of the design. Ergonomists want to determine how it is that people devise new
systems, and what individual/group factors were involved in making all the decisions involved in the
construct of a system (Paul R. Martin, 2011). Secondly, design requires innovation, and requires
ergonomists to proactively supply empirical data for the future design of systems, thus improving the
levels of human performance and acceptance of new artefacts (Paul R. Martin, 2011). User centred
design in technological innovation The concept of user centred design was developed during the 1980
́s in the design of technologies (The Oxford Handbook of Cognitive Engineering, 2013). The aim of
user centred design is to describe how a human will interact with a system from a cognitive science
view. These characteristics will then be shared between the cognitive ergonomists and engineers in the
design process of new systems. Six important aspects of technological system design (ticket machine):
(1) Visibility This system is usually placed in an area, which is crowded, and busy , thus it must be
easily seen. People in crowded placed are usually placed under stress. If the system isn t seen on first

Similar to the start of the first experiment, the citric acid is added to the distilled water in the
styrofoam cup and is allowed to begin dissolving for twenty seconds. It is important to add the citric
acid to the water and not the water to the citric acid as this creates a large amount of heat to be
released, causing the concentrated acid to boil violently and splash out of the container. The addition
of an acid in the solution, I predict, speed up the rate of the reaction, thus releasing heat more quickly.
The acid acts as a catalyst in the reaction.
Furthermore, it could be plausible from the previous conclusion, that a base could hinder or slow
down a chemical reaction.
The final experiment is the solution of hydrochloric acid with magnesium and recording the maximum
temperature it reaches. Each small experiment should be followed with a thorough cleaning of the
styrofoam cups, lids, stirrers, temperature probe, and other glassware. The completely reacted
solutions should be disposed of in the proper water area under the fume hood.

How To Write A Thank You Speech For A Class President
First off I would like to thank the student body, principal, faculty, and fellow candidates for being here
today allowing me to share with all of you my opinions about this election and the qualifications that
make me a suitable leader for the freshman class. I am Bo Dehm Wicklund and I would like to be your
class president for the 2015 to 2016 term.
Let me first start by giving you some background information about myself. I am a freshman here at
Berlin High School just as the rest of you are and I regularly participate in many clubs, activities, and
sports. From the beginning I wanted to become an involved student so here I am today in pursuit of
achieving this goal. Regardless of my participation in other organizations I will continue to put forth
my best foot in this presidential election. I will put the people first and never allow my involvement in
other activities to interfere ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Just kidding, unfortunately I am not able to do that but wouldn t that be great? Nevertheless, I promise

solved. When a problem arises I will be there to help. Also, I intend to introduce new and improved
ideas for events and other gatherings. We together will work with administration to accomplish the
best year that berlin High School has ever seen. Now, this brings me to my next point, teamwork. A
word that you hear all the time from coaches, teachers, and maybe even your parents. However, I plan
to bring a new meaning to the word teamwork. Teamwork should be something that happens on its
own, we should automatically want to work together to solve problems. If elected I would like to ask
all of you yes you the freshman class of Berlin High School to be not the individuals others perceive
us as, but one cohesive team, a unit, we should move as one and accomplish things

Satire In The Visit By Durrenmatt
Durrenmatt uses satire in The Visit to criticize the the corruptive power of money. Before the arrival of
Claire Zachanassian, the town of Gullen was poverty stricken. When Claire visits the Gullen, she
offers a substantial amount of money to the town but only on the condition that the town amends its
past failure by putting Ill to death. Claire considers Ill s death to be justice . As the play progresses,
Claire s statement that everything, including justice, can be bought becomes evident (Durrenmatt 31).
Initially, when Claire announces that she would pay $1 billion to the town for the death of Alfred Ill,
the townspeople were horrified since doing something as immoral as murder for money would be
inconceivable. Responding to Claire s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

blames him for her life because she loves Ill and will always love Ill; Claire had never gotten over his
betrayal. Before going to the Golden Apostle, Claire says to Ill, But the dream of life, of love, of
trust...I haven t forgotten that. I want to rebuilt it with my billions, I will change the past, by
destroying you. (98). Claire has lived the years after Ill s betrayal for this one moment where justice
could finally be brought against him. In order to rebuild her dream and change the past , Ill had to be
killed because he symbolizes the prostitution and the emotional pain she endured in the past. Claire,
herself could not murder Ill because she loved him too much so she enlists the town to help her. The
only way they would commit such a horrible act was if they were given something substantial in
return. Money was what Gullen needed and money was what Claire had. Destroying him physically

Watership Down Power Quotes
Knowing others is intelligence; knowing yourself is true wisdom. Mastering others is strength,
mastering yourself is true power, says Lao Tzu. The rabbits in Watership Down that are aspiring
leaders deal with a constant battle that relates perfectly to Lao Tzu s quote. Some gain power through
their stature, others through their wit, but the truly effective leaders use the ideal attributes both from
themselves and the rabbits they are leading. The desire for power in this novel is exhibited through

When Fiver, Hazel s younger brother, has a vision about the warren being attacked, he immediately
sets out to tell Threarah. After Fiver and Hazel finally reach the distanced Threarah, he ignores them.
Threarah scolds them for interrupting his sleep and his patience. This decision is important in
displaying the desire for power in Threarah; he knows that if he listens to Fiver he could lose
everything. The task of moving the entire warren would not only take mounds of time and effort, but
the decision would also be Threarah s. This means that if the move was a bad decision he could
possibly lose his power. Threarah is willing to risk the lives of his entire warren to safely retain power;
he is so caught up in being power hungry that Fiver s vision eventually becomes true and the whole
warren is killed. As our first example of a power crazy leader, this quickly shows the reader the social
hierarchy of the rabbits as well as the extent they re willing to do to maintain it. The next chief rabbit
that leads in his own interest is Woundwort, chief rabbit of the Efrafa warren. After having both of his
parents killed at an early age, Woundwort constructed this warren to stay under the radar from any

The Element Of Criminal Liability
Introduction
Crime can be defined as an action or omission that can is constituted as an offence, going against the
values of society and is an act which is punishable by law with either a fine, imprisonment or
whatever punishment fits the nature of the crime. In this report there will be a discussion on the two
element on criminal liability which are as followed Mens Rea (guilty mind) and Actus Reus (guilty
act). Different components constitute these elements and are used to make up a crime. However there
have been cases were the use of mens rea has very minimal effect and actus reus is the only element
proven in the offence. For example; Rape even though it is considered a serious offence, there have
been incidents were lack of consent was applicable to the crime as the person may have been induced
to object to force, fear or fraud and the accused would have mentally believed that the victim had
consent hence lacking the mens rea element and continuing the sexual penetration which is the actus
reus component of the offence. This report will also cover the defences to mens rea (intoxication,
mental impairment and infancy and also defences to actus reus (self defence, consent, execution of the
law and misadventure/ mere accident) as well as strict liability in reference to the elements required
for a crime and a table identifying offence/s present in the given scenario.

China s Current Growth Rate
China is currently the 2nd largest economy in the world, trailing the us and set to overtake the us
economy by 2024 according to the IMF. GDP of china has grown extensively over the past three
decades and have contributed to large scale growth in exports and imports, technological
advancements, health, and more. The acceleration of globalisation was due to two major
advancements, the first was the economic reforms of 1978 when china opened the country and the
joining of the WTO in 2001. China is classified as a socialist economy currently being ruled by a
communist government. China s current growth rate for GDP is recorded as being 7.7% in 2013 and
has continued to slowdown over recent years due to a global economic slowdown. Trade By 2013
china had accounted for 15.4% of GWP and 10.5% of exports of goods and services around the world.
The expansion of china s exports and imports from 2005 to 2012 is phenomenal. In 2005 exports were
valued at $762 billion and in 2012, it was rated at 2,048.8 Billion. Imports during this time increased
from $660 billion in 2005 to 1,818 billion in 2012. However in 2009 china took a small hit as the GFC
effected the world economy and the export value from 2008 to 2009 dropped from $US1,430 billion
to $US 1,201 Billion. In 2014 the biggest exports from china were electronic equipment, machinery,
clothing and accessories and furniture, thus showing the major use of the manufacturing sector in
china. The agricultural reform in 1978

The Power Of Nature In Willow Poem, And Complete Destruction
We cannot command Nature except by obeying her. said by philosopher Francis Bacon. The meaning
behind this famous quote is that human and no such things can fully control or overcome the nature.
We need to follow and accept the consequences of nature. Furthermore, this idea could influence
William Carlos Williams about the power of nature. An American poet, Williams Carlos Williams was
born on September 17, 1883, in his hometown, New Jersey. His first exposure to the literature was

As a modernist poets, Williams breaks from the traditional writing style and writes the poem without
any rhyme pattern. A short, descriptive poem consisting of two equal stanzas, Complete Destruction
contains no such words that could possibly rhyme with each other. Since the beginning of the poem,
Williams writes, It was an icy day, / We buried the cat, (1 2) neither the word day nor cat rhyme with
each other. In addition, Williams continues to maintain the poem without any rhyme word at the end
of each line. This continuation illustrates several purposes. First, it creates no interesting sound which
reveals the sense of sadness. This finally refers that through the powerful destructive nature death is
inescapable. Second, it shows the discontinuation of sound which reveals the reduction of life that was
created by the immense power of nature. Likewise, Williams also reveals the destruction and
elimination of the rhyme in last two lines in Willow Poem . As presented in the poem, It is a willow
when summer is over, / a willow by the river (1 2) the last word of each line is rhyme with the next
line and continue to rhyme with each other throughout the poem. Nevertheless, this rhyme pattern is
destroyed at the end as stated the last to let go and fall / into the water and on the ground. (13 14). The

are diverse in peripheral organs and brain, being such an important receptor in signaling has made it
an attractive target for various disease pathology. Therefore, obtaining ligands of novel scaffolds by

metabolite of the amino acid tyrosine, more than 50 years ago (Carlsson et al., 1957) resulted in
enormous amount of interest and discussion about this catecholaminergic neurotransmitter. These
Dopaminergic neurons are critically involved in numerous vital central nervous system functions,
including voluntary movement, feeding, reward, sleep, attention, working memory, and learning

that dopaminergic dysfunction is associated in variety of human disorder particularly CNS related

U.s. Congress And The United States Congress
Under the first Article in the Constitution, the U.S. Congress is the first branch and is also known as
the most important representative body of the world. They are among the other few national
representative bodies that acquire powers of governance. The U.S. Congress is made up of two
chambers, The House of Representatives and The Senate. The two most important powers given to
any government are the power of force and the power over money, and the U.S. Congress has the
authority over the two. They have a lot of power in their hands (Lowi, 130). As mentioned before, the
U.S. Congress is made up of two chambers the House and the Senate that is provided by the
constitution as a bicameral legislature. They each cater to different constituencies. The House is

The bullpen is poor; Francisco Rodriguez wouldn t be the closer on almost every other Major League

longevity. Their roster is chock full of veterans it s too old to not expect to get bitten by the injury bug
and if some of their stars go down early they could be holding a fire sale at the deadline. I expect them
to be in contention for the division until the all star break, when they will lose steam and the Indians

After the Indians and the Tigers, the Central is pretty bad. The Royals, Twins, and White Sox will all
try to stay out of the basement. Although I don t think that the Twins are the safest from this, they have
the best chance to finish in third place in the division. They have a few bright spots at the plate in
Brian Dozier and Miguel Sano, and good defensive players with major offensive upside in Byron

was poor and is now the founder of a very popular chain restaurant shows that he succeeded even
though he had a lot of troubles. Although Sanders had a recipe, he couldn t really do much with it, but
it will soon make him wealthy. In Britannica s biographies she states, After selling his restaurant,
Sanders took to the road armed with his recipe but signed up only five restaurants in two years. By
1964, however, there were more than 600 franchises in the U.S and Canada and Sanders was making

The Issues And Risks Facing Sel
After reviewing the current situations, I have identified the following issues and risks facing SEL. An
overview of the implications of the proposed IPO, and a brief analysis of the three accounting
packages under consideration are also given in the memo.
Weaknesses in financial management
SEL has been weak in financial management. Both of you were not actively involved in it. Nor did
SEL have sufficient qualified accounting staff to undertake these critical responsibilities. For example,
there were no such roles who conducted business/operation planning, forecasting and budgeting, and
financial analysis. SEL lacks necessary tools to perform these functions either. The poor planning and
forecasting contributed to the cash flow shortage ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I would suggest we tighten the policies and procedures, deposit cheques more frequently (preferably
daily), review and approve invoices in time.
The recent growth in business, especially the new contracts, implies a significant increase of
accounting transactions. It calls for qualified full time accounting staff (rather than the current
inexperienced part time accountant), and sound financial management, which involves policies and
procedures, documents and tools, to help us keep the operation on track and achieve the business
goals. Being your new controller, I would be responsible for business planning. I will be mostly
involved in financial forecasting and budgeting and will help in the financial analysis. I would
recommend that we hire one cost accountant to conduct cost analysis and pricing; one full time
accountant to perform the routine accounting functions and assist in ad hoc accounting activities. We
should also develop useful tools to help undertake these tasks. Official reports for
forecasting/budgeting, financial analysis and cash flow management should be prepared and reviewed
on a regular basis, which would help in short term and long term planning and decision making.
Internal control perspective
From an internal control perspective, I would emphasize that SEL needs to strengthen its control and
monitor. Should we go public as proposed, our

Diversity And Social Justice By Paulo Freire
Diversity and Social Justice
Education is that terrain where power and politics are given fundamental expression, since it is where
meaning, desire, language. and values engage and respond to the deeper beliefs about every nature of
what it means to be human, to dream, and to name and struggle for a particular future and way of life
(Freire, 1985). Education gives people the opportunity to take part in a reflective process and find
solutions to existing societal problems. Over the course program, I have developed a deeper
understanding of adult education and literacy specifically among the underserved population. My
perceptions of adult literacy have changed from merely engaging learners with the text to a deeper
understanding of what it means to be a literate adult. Why a focus on adult literacy and education?
According to Paulo Freire, no one elects to be illiterate. One is illiterate because of objective
conditions. In certain circumstances, the illiterate man is the man who does not need to read. In other
circumstances, he is the one to whom the right to read was denied (Freire, 1985 p.13). According to
Freire s argument, it is suffice to say that as an individual or leaner perhaps, being literate is not an
individual s choice. As an adult educator aspiring to work with underserved populations among them
the Turkana community in northern Kenya, understanding the root causes of illiteracy and overall low
rates of enrolments in adult education programs is crucial

Manhattan Project Effects
On August 6th, 1945 sixty thousand people instantly disintegrated within a five mile radius blast that
erupted over Hiroshima, Japan. Three days later an even stronger blast was felt over the Japanese city
of Nagasaki. Though thousands died, the technologic improvement from the original bomb did not go
unnoticed. Both Little boy and Fat man were successful in collapsing the Japanese will to fight and on
August 15th Japan surrendered to the United States. Without the introduction of the atomic bomb, no
one can say for sure how long the war would have raged on for. As noted in the Battle of Midway the
shortage of experienced pilots hindered Japan but advanced their tactics as well. Rather than training
proficient pilots, the Japanese took a kamikaze approach to aerial combat and rammed fighter planes
into the sides of US ships. At this point, the Japanese were literally willing to die for their country

Yet, with changing times, technology also changes and becomes more sophisticated. Along with the

Becoming The Boss And A Survival Guide For Leaders

Leadership Review Paper When I read the two articles Becoming the Boss and A Survival Guide for
Leaders , I noticed various differences between the two. While both articles consist of tips and advice
for leaders, they go about that in two diverse ways. From the one article read, leadership is made out
to be an abundance of responsibility, while the other article starts by describing leadership as
dangerous and risky. Although responsibility and danger come with both good and bad in this case, I
felt very differently about the separate articles. However, in both readings there were things I liked
and disliked, and many things I would remember for future reference. In Linda Hill s article Becoming
the Boss She begins by writing about the common misconceptions of management. She does this to
help future leaders skip the first few days of despair that so many new bosses experience. Hill goes
about being a successful boss with the method of changing the myths and misconceptions into realities
of the job. A few ideas that are suggested in this article are to make connections outside of your
business that can benefit your workers, show good character, influence and treat your employees with
respect (listen to them), understand that control doesn t mean commitment, and let others help you.

Essay On George Mcclellan s Assassination
The bloodiest war in U.S. history was fought from 1861 to 1865. Of the current thirty four states,
seven southern slave states seceded from the United States and together they formed the Confederacy
(Confederate States of America.) The war was an inevitable side effect of different political standings
and opinions, about the morals and duties of man in everyday life, between the North and South.
When the war started, the North learned an important ideology about what would be necessary for the
fighting to end. They realized that they had to win, and end the Confederacy, in order for the Union to

Leigh Syndrome Essay
The first reported case of LS occurred when Denis Archibald Leigh examined a baby boy who

.It was only after the child had passed, that Leigh Syndrome, LS, was confirmed through a close

Leigh Syndrome is a neurological disorder that occurs throughout the early stages of childhood
(Wiley) In infancy, symptoms may include severe vomiting and respiratory issues, as well as failure to

dig deep to get the truth behind the words. So here we go let s get this started. Appearing in Orwelll s,
Shooting an Elephant, it brings to the table of imperialism. He says that imperialism is that not just the
conqueror, but the conquered are destroyed (Orwell, 1936). He shows that even though you have your
own ideas, you feel as if you have to because of either the position they are in society or just in
general. He describes as if you end up doing what they want you to do, you are losing and giving up a
part of your freedom. It ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He brings the motivations of war to light. He calls them as blind patriotic and religious motivations for
war (Twain, 1923). People in war ask for their soldiers to be protected, and as what happens in the
poem a messenger for God comes to them and tells them that this is wrong. It is a great shock but in
the end, they end up not believing him, saying he is not that even though their society has said that
war is the answer. That this guy who says he is a messenger for God, is wrong, and that s what
imperialism does it makes you want to not go against them. Next in the White Mans Burden, you see
how the people who are precedent are bringing imperialism to their country. It is showing that they put
a blind up after their people. To make them feel as if they are superior that they are doing good, and
the people who are being told this have no clue how much they look so opposite of what they think.
That is how it is, people put blinds over them to keep them from seeing how they are really being
treated or how they are treating others (Kipling,

Essay On Oliver Twist
Oliver Twist by Charles Dickens is about a young orphan boy who leaves his orphanage to go to
London after years of mistreatment. Being an orphan since birth due to his mother s death and father s
absence, for the first nine years of his life, Oliver lives on what is referred to as a baby farm. However,
at the age of nine he was moved from this baby farm to a workhouse by a man named Mr. Bumble.
This is shown on page seven when a woman name Mrs. Mann, who Oliver was under the care of for
the first nine years of his life, introduces Mr. Bumble to Oliver. This triggers the event that will begin
Oliver s journey. While working at the workhouse, the living conditions are poor and the boys who
work there eat small portions of what is referred to as gruel. One day, some of the boys decide to draw
lots, whoever losing having to ask for more gruel. Young Oliver Twist loses and the task to ask for
more falls to him. One line that this book is known for is then said by Oliver here on page 11 Please,
sir, I want some more. This leads to an uproar that leads to the workhouse attempting to get Oliver
adopted to get him out of the way, beginning his journey. Five pounds is offered to anyone who will
take Oliver. After a close call where Oliver is nearly taken by a cruel man named Mr. Gamfield, he is
then adopted by a Mr. Sowerberry, an older gentleman. He treats Oliver well and uses Oliver as a
mourner at children s funerals. However, due to his unhappy marriage, Mrs. Sowerberry

America As A Melting Pot
As soon as someone calls the United States a melting pot, I immediately picture the School House
Rock music video in which hundreds of happy immigrants dive into the pot to swim together in
harmony. The idea of America as a melting pot is, on the surface, a good intentioned metaphor that
carries with it the implication of our unity within one, uniquely American culture. Unfortunately, this
metaphor carries negative connotations as well, including forced assimilation into the majority as you
melt away into the mix. Imagine five pieces of chocolate, one white, added to a heated saucepan;
eventually, it all turns brown. Despite the multiplicity of cultures added to this melting pot, something
is lost in the final product: diversity. In a melting pot, it is suggested that we blend together; we are
indistinct; we are Americans united in one culture, one language, one creed. Simply stated, this is not
an accurate representation of our country s culture or its citizens. I find the stew to be a much more
appropriate metaphor. Even when heated and stirred, a stew maintains its individual elements
(potatoes, beef, onions, carrots, celery, etc.), but also allows for some transfer of flavors. The beef
flavor is infused with notes of carrot and onion; the carrots have the added flavors of the broth and
beef. The stew continues to have unique, individual elements, but it tastes better in tangent with other
flavors. This is a more fitting description of America, as citizens

  • 3. The Importance Of African Culture In Chinua Achebe s... Chinua Achebe s most well known novel Things Fall Apart was defined by many as a modern piece of African literature that was truly African. It became a major contribution to literature around the world. The novel revolves around an Ibo village in Nigeria. The inclusion of African culture, such as the language, stories, and way of life, create depth and dimension and are essential to the telling of the Ibo story by Achebe. The certain Ibo words included in the novel help develop a taste for true African culture. Without these words, Achebe would not have been able to explain himself as well as he did. The words that are used in the english language differ greatly from the words used in Ibo language. Achebe illustrates this when he writes, That was how Okonkwo first came to know that agbala was not only another name for a woman, it could also mean a man who had taken no title (Achebe 13). In this piece from the novel, it demonstrates that the special African word has a greater meaning than any English word ever could. If Achebe were to just say the word woman in place of the word agabala, many readers may become confused as to what he means. The word choice establishes what true African culture is. The author demonstrates this principle of the difference of language on many occasions throughout the novel such as, This man told him that the child was an ogbanje, one of those wicked children who, when they died, entered their mothers wombs to be born again (Achebe 77) and ... However, she had been offered an incredible opportunity in New York that she just couldn t refuse. She knew her grandmother would be beaming with approval. Funding had been made available for building and organizing a dozen women s shelters in New York. The terms of the anonymous benefactor s offer had been very specific: The position is only available to an individual qualified to provide professional counseling, who has the necessary skills to supervise construction, and a desire to manage the operation of the shelters once completed. In the play The Merchant of Venice, there are many female characters who face injustice alone in society. Portia as many seemingly paradoxical identities. This makes her a memorable character in the play The Merchant of Venice. She has represented being dutiful towards her father, being an innocent young woman, a mortal breathing saint who posses god like amity , a hard headed and calculating lawyer who is fully conversant with the tricks of the legal trade, and is advocate of mercy who ruthlessly destroys Shylock. Portia is not a memorable character because amongst her god like amity and her mortal breathing saint personality, she also portrays a deceitful character through her complex personality. Portia s personality is superficial. Her evaluation of her suitors is both articulate and scathing; Portia deconstructs each man with a kind of clinical precision, seeming to take particular pleasure in questioning their masculinity. God made him, and therefore let him pass as a man; (1.2.50). This quote reveals Portia s conception of masculinity seems to have little to do with mere anatomy. This provides the audience with the sense that the speaker understands exactly what he or she is speaking about and possibly feel the exact way about the speech being delivered. 3. What is the difference between hearing and listening? What are some strategies you could employ to improve your listening skills? What does it mean to listen critically? When sound waves are transformed by the electrochemical impulses into the brain, the wonderful sense of hearing is experienced. Listening is actually paying attention to the speaker and understanding what was said. Hearing is being able to hear what is said but not understand the meaning of the speech. Hearing and listening are essential elements to comprehending and determining what was recently received by the audience. Here are some methods to enhance the listening environment for the audience involves: minimizing potential disturbances, divert the audience with the appearance of speaker, delivery method of the speaker must be entertaining, deferring discernment, focusing on listening and develop note taking skills. • 13. The Best Selling Garment Of All Time Marked the best selling garment of all time , denim has been a key participant in the evolution of popular culture (Weber 2006). Originally making its public debut appearance within the mining sectors in the mid 1800s, denim has become a product of globalization, as it gained both attention and wear by billions (Foreman 2015). As various styles have evolved from denim, jeans have deemed consistency throughout popular culture movements, withstanding the test of time. Not only has denim broken barriers of age, class, and race, but the way in which jeans have been altered is a direct product of popular culture, carried out via youth subcultures. Why study something as acquisitive as denim when examining theories of popular culture, particularly when trends come and go? British media theorist and sociologist Dick Hebdige is distinguished for his popular culture studies, as he is labeled as the primary popular culture reference maker. His research via sociological analysis has paved the way for proceeding theorists to further explore the complexity of popular culture movements. Denim, however, is unique in the sense that the evolution of this single garment has disrupted orthodox societal structures not only in its country of origin, but also globally. Its invention and circulation epitomize the exchange and intersection of cultural studies, allure a wide audience, and exemplify both political and economic societal shifts. The reason I love all these things is because they all correspond with one another. Disney is where all your dreams come true, makeup is a thing that you put on to make yourself look and feel like a dream. Disney is all about crazy makeup to make people look a certain way for characters such as, villains, heroes, and damsels in distress, for you to remember them, maybe even in your dreams. Makeup is a way to define your features and make you feel more beautiful like the girls in Disney movies. Makeup only used to be for men and women to enhance their beauty. Now makeup is still used for that very same reason but it s for themselves, because they aren t trying to impress anyone but themselves. From 3000 B.C. men wore wigs and makeup to make them more eye catching. All women would use makeup to make themselves prettier and so did men. The egyptians were the first people to create cosmetics. They wore it for special occasions like festivals or celebrations. They also would put themselves at risk because of the things they were putting on there face to make them look more beautiful. • 16. Integrative Approach For Counseling And Its Effects On... Integrative Approach to Counseling Key Concepts The central idea in an integrative approach to counseling is one of a patient s ability to affect their life through the choices they make. William Glasser suggests most people s unhappiness stems from the lack of meaningful relationships, and most relationships are either successful or a disaster based on the choices we make (Corey, 2013). Patients are able to positively or negatively impact their mental well being by making choices that deepen their interpersonal relationships. Expanding on Glasser s ideas, existentialism and the choices it offers, gives an individual the opportunity to experience freedom. They are no longer tied to a deterministic view of life, but are instead given license to create the life they wish to have, unencumbered by the weight of societal, cultural, or familial expectations (Corey, 2013). Both choice theory and existentialism closely mirror ideas taught in Protestant Christianity: people are free to make choices about their behavior and lifestyle, and all choices have an outcome. That outcome can be positive (salvation), or negative (damnation). If one believes the rules as explained in the Bible, the outcome of one s life rests in their choices. Counselor s role In most cases, the counselor will best serve their client by taking on a not knowing role in the relationship, allowing the client to become the expert in their own lives (Corey, 2013). Our modern feelings toward medieval art are far more appreciative. The main intent of Medieval art was to express Christianity which was also a common bond between a wide spread and diverse Europe. For this reason most of the art found from medieval times originated in monasteries and churches. European art during the Middle Ages can be divided into four periods. These four periods include Celto Germanic art which ranged from 400 to 800 A.D. and was important in metal work. Carolingian art ranged from 750 to 987 A.D. overlapping 50 years of the Celto Germanic period. The period of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A major difference between the two was that Carolingian architects used stone only for important buildings such as churches and castles. Their buildings and plans for unfinished buildings show that a major factor in Carolingian architecture was length. This was both appealing to the eye and practical, leaving room for extra altars and separate entries. The Carolingian style is of small dimensions. Most of this style pulls its influence from Byzantine artwork. An explanation for the sudden change from Celto Germanic styling can be attributed to the new minuscule form of writing, remarkable for its clarity and form (Pioch). Metal work from this time period is rare although writings tell us that goldsmiths and enamel workers remained active. Romanesque The art of the Romanesque period was characterized by the revival of sculptures and fresco painting. These were common elements of architecture. Along with those architectural advancements the period produced frequent examples of realism as well as a heightened emphasis on emotion and fantasy. The crusades acted as a main contributor to this time period lending more religious and revolutionary imagery. Therefore, the recipient countries over reliance on Australian aid money places a strain on the Australian economy, as well as the risk of witnessing a downfall of a nearby nation, which could result in the endangerment of Australia s national security. An additional advantage of aid is that it provides Australia with strengthened diplomatic, economic and political ties to the recipient countries. As Australia is a prominent aid donor in the Asia Pacific region, it has strong diplomatic ties with the developing countries of that area, and can therefore receive the benefits from such a relationship with these countries. An example of such a relationship would be the free trade agreements Australia signed with Singapore in 2003 and Thailand in 2005, Australia diplomatic relationship with these nations played a large role in the securing of these two agreements. Australia can also benefit from such a good relationship politically as the recipient country of Australian aid can support Australia s politics. People would have gone crazy with concrete madness if there were not green spaces. Green spaces are essential for the city and humans living in the city. Without it, people in the city would have been serious ill or even dead because of the smog. So, it is very important that London cares for it s green spaces. London is too big to be maintained by itself, that is why there are boroughs. Each borough maintains it own space. Of course, each of the boroughs has it s own strategy. Two of the boroughs were particularly interesting, because of the biodiversity and the strategy of the borough to maintain and enhance green space. The first borough is the City of London (as you can see above). There are many (somewhat tiny) green spaces in the City of London, that are scattered and divided by streets and tall buildings. The historic value of these green spaces is magnificent. Here were the first settlements of London around the Roman era. Some of the pieces of the City wall of the Roman Londonium still stand today. The City of London does not want to destroy such value, that is why the green spaces of the City of London are around those objects with historic value. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... According to Carroll (cognitive view), there are two aspects of system design (Carroll, 1991). The first is the process of the design. Ergonomists want to determine how it is that people devise new systems, and what individual/group factors were involved in making all the decisions involved in the construct of a system (Paul R. Martin, 2011). Secondly, design requires innovation, and requires ergonomists to proactively supply empirical data for the future design of systems, thus improving the levels of human performance and acceptance of new artefacts (Paul R. Martin, 2011). User centred design in technological innovation The concept of user centred design was developed during the 1980 ́s in the design of technologies (The Oxford Handbook of Cognitive Engineering, 2013). The aim of user centred design is to describe how a human will interact with a system from a cognitive science view. These characteristics will then be shared between the cognitive ergonomists and engineers in the design process of new systems. Six important aspects of technological system design (ticket machine): (1) Visibility This system is usually placed in an area, which is crowded, and busy , thus it must be easily seen. Similar to the start of the first experiment, the citric acid is added to the distilled water in the styrofoam cup and is allowed to begin dissolving for twenty seconds. It is important to add the citric acid to the water and not the water to the citric acid as this creates a large amount of heat to be released, causing the concentrated acid to boil violently and splash out of the container. The addition of an acid in the solution, I predict, speed up the rate of the reaction, thus releasing heat more quickly. The acid acts as a catalyst in the reaction. Furthermore, it could be plausible from the previous conclusion, that a base could hinder or slow down a chemical reaction. The final experiment is the solution of hydrochloric acid with magnesium and recording the maximum temperature it reaches. As mentioned before, the U.S. Congress is made up of two chambers the House and the Senate that is provided by the constitution as a bicameral legislature. They each cater to different constituencies. The House is known to be more responsive to the people and the Senate is responsive to the elite. They both are elected directly by the people. Four hundred thirty five of the members of the U.S. Congress are apart of the House and one hundred of the members are apart of the Senate (Lowi, 136). Can you imagine having to make compromises and decisions on thing with five hundred thirty five people? I can imagine with that many people apart of the U.S. Congress that they dealt with a lot of conflict when having to make decisions. With their powers, under Article I, Section 8, Congress has the power to lay and collect taxes, borrow money, deal with bankruptcy, and mainly have control over the nations finances. • 32. AL Central Case Study Questions AL Central Besides for last year s runner up, there is only one team which has a realistic chance to make the postseason from the weak AL Central in 2017. The Indians came as close as possible to winning the World Series last year, and with the Cubs having broken their curse, the Indians 69 year drought is now the longest in baseball. They made a YUGE acquisition, landing Edwin Encarnacion via free agency, and are getting back Michael Brantley from last year s injury which cost him all but eleven games. Their lineup is stacked from top to bottom, with Carlos Santana, Jason Kipnis, Francisco Lindor, Encarnacion, Brantley, and Jose Ramirez. Their rotation was awfully depleted last year by injuries, but when it s healthy it is one of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The bullpen is poor; Francisco Rodriguez wouldn t be the closer on almost every other Major League team, but represents the Tigers best option. The main issue that the Tigers will have to battle is longevity. Their roster is chock full of veterans it s too old to not expect to get bitten by the injury bug and if some of their stars go down early they could be holding a fire sale at the deadline. I expect them to be in contention for the division until the all star break, when they will lose steam and the Indians will pull away. However, expect them to remain in contention for a wild card spot. After the Indians and the Tigers, the Central is pretty bad. The Royals, Twins, and White Sox will all try to stay out of the basement. Although I don t think that the Twins are the safest from this, they have the best chance to finish in third place in the division. They have a few bright spots at the plate in Brian Dozier and Miguel Sano, and good defensive players with major offensive upside in Byron Buxton and Max Kepler, but there isn t much more to look forward to. Joe Mauer is aging, and the addition of Jason Castro, pitch framing extraordinaire, doesn t get me too piqued. Their rotation is horrific after a solid pitcher in Ervin Santana they have Hector Santiago, Kyle Gibson, and Phil Hughes; all three are aging players who never accomplished much in their careers. • 33. Harland Sanders Oh yes the past can hurt, but you can either learn from it or learn from it. Rhafika The quote is pretty much saying that you should learn from the past and make better choices because of your past. This quote is appealing to social life because everyone lives by this quote without even knowing. This source shows examples of this quote and how people learned because of their hardships. Robert Downey Jr. thrived and learned from the past in many ways. Although he is thriving now, his early life was not so good but he found a way to pull through. According to Hutchingson s biography he states, Reduced to living on social security payments, Sanders took to the road franchising his fried chicken recipe(Har 1). Sanders success came very slowly. The fact that he was poor and is now the founder of a very popular chain restaurant shows that he succeeded even though he had a lot of troubles. Although Sanders had a recipe, he couldn t really do much with it, but it will soon make him wealthy. In Britannica s biographies she states, After selling his restaurant, Sanders took to the road armed with his recipe but signed up only five restaurants in two years. By 1964, however, there were more than 600 franchises in the U.S and Canada and Sanders was making $300,000 a year(Har 1). Seeing how Sanders only signed up five restaurants in two years shows that he was not really that successful with his recipe. He did infact overcome this because later down the road he was signed up to 600 different franchises and started making money. Although Sanders is as popular and successful as he is know, he never got handed anything, he succeeded all on his own. Another passage from Hutchingson s biography states, Sanders founded the Kentucky fried chicken(KFC) franchise in 1956, at the age of 65, using his monthly $105 dollar social security check(Har 1). Sanders failure of jobs and lack of money would be something most people can t overcome. Sanders only made 105 dollars a month at the age of 65 and still found a way to become rich. • 34. The Issues And Risks Facing Sel After reviewing the current situations, I have identified the following issues and risks facing SEL. An overview of the implications of the proposed IPO, and a brief analysis of the three accounting packages under consideration are also given in the memo. Weaknesses in financial management SEL has been weak in financial management. Both of you were not actively involved in it. Nor did SEL have sufficient qualified accounting staff to undertake these critical responsibilities. For example, there were no such roles who conducted business/operation planning, forecasting and budgeting, and financial analysis. SEL lacks necessary tools to perform these functions either. I would suggest we tighten the policies and procedures, deposit cheques more frequently (preferably daily), review and approve invoices in time. The recent growth in business, especially the new contracts, implies a significant increase of accounting transactions. It calls for qualified full time accounting staff (rather than the current inexperienced part time accountant), and sound financial management, which involves policies and procedures, documents and tools, to help us keep the operation on track and achieve the business goals. Being your new controller, I would be responsible for business planning. I will be mostly involved in financial forecasting and budgeting and will help in the financial analysis. I would recommend that we hire one cost accountant to conduct cost analysis and pricing; one full time accountant to perform the routine accounting functions and assist in ad hoc accounting activities. We should also develop useful tools to help undertake these tasks. Official reports for forecasting/budgeting, financial analysis and cash flow management should be prepared and reviewed on a regular basis, which would help in short term and long term planning and decision making. Internal control perspective From an internal control perspective, I would emphasize that SEL needs to strengthen its control and monitor. Should we go public as proposed, our ... • 35. Diversity And Social Justice By Paulo Freire Diversity and Social Justice Education is that terrain where power and politics are given fundamental expression, since it is where meaning, desire, language. and values engage and respond to the deeper beliefs about every nature of what it means to be human, to dream, and to name and struggle for a particular future and way of life (Freire, 1985). Education gives people the opportunity to take part in a reflective process and find solutions to existing societal problems. Over the course program, I have developed a deeper understanding of adult education and literacy specifically among the underserved population. My perceptions of adult literacy have changed from merely engaging learners with the text to a deeper understanding of what it means to be a literate adult. Why a focus on adult literacy and education? According to Paulo Freire, no one elects to be illiterate. One is illiterate because of objective conditions. In certain circumstances, the illiterate man is the man who does not need to read. In other circumstances, he is the one to whom the right to read was denied (Freire, 1985 p.13). According to Freire s argument, it is suffice to say that as an individual or leaner perhaps, being literate is not an individual s choice. As an adult educator aspiring to work with underserved populations among them the Turkana community in northern Kenya, understanding the root causes of illiteracy and overall low rates of enrolments in adult education programs is crucial ... • 36. Manhattan Project Effects On August 6th, 1945 sixty thousand people instantly disintegrated within a five mile radius blast that erupted over Hiroshima, Japan. Three days later an even stronger blast was felt over the Japanese city of Nagasaki. Though thousands died, the technologic improvement from the original bomb did not go unnoticed. Both Little boy and Fat man were successful in collapsing the Japanese will to fight and on August 15th Japan surrendered to the United States. Without the introduction of the atomic bomb, no one can say for sure how long the war would have raged on for. As noted in the Battle of Midway the shortage of experienced pilots hindered Japan but advanced their tactics as well. Rather than training proficient pilots, the Japanese took a kamikaze approach to aerial combat and rammed fighter planes into the sides of US ships. At this point, the Japanese were literally willing to die for their country even if it meant complete suicide. The success of the Manhattan Project did ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 37. Becoming The Boss And A Survival Guide For Leaders Kathleen Wykoff March 1 2015 HSMP 3200 995 Leadership Review Paper When I read the two articles Becoming the Boss and A Survival Guide for Leaders , I noticed various differences between the two. While both articles consist of tips and advice for leaders, they go about that in two diverse ways. From the one article read, leadership is made out to be an abundance of responsibility, while the other article starts by describing leadership as dangerous and risky. Although responsibility and danger come with both good and bad in this case, I felt very differently about the separate articles. However, in both readings there were things I liked and disliked, and many things I would remember for future reference. In Linda Hill s article Becoming the Boss She begins by writing about the common misconceptions of management. She does this to help future leaders skip the first few days of despair that so many new bosses experience. Hill goes about being a successful boss with the method of changing the myths and misconceptions into realities of the job. A few ideas that are suggested in this article are to make connections outside of your business that can benefit your workers, show good character, influence and treat your employees with respect (listen to them), understand that control doesn t mean commitment, and let others help you. The last two I listed seemed to be very stressed in her article. When Hill writes that control doesn t equal commitment , she is referring to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Of the current thirty four states, seven southern slave states seceded from the United States and together they formed the Confederacy (Confederate States of America.) The war was an inevitable side effect of different political standings and opinions, about the morals and duties of man in everyday life, between the North and South. When the war started, the North learned an important ideology about what would be necessary for the fighting to end. They realized that they had to win, and end the Confederacy, in order for the Union to be whole again with Northern ideals. We will dig deep into the true meaning of these pieces of work. To bring forth how they felt about the imperialism. So as we go forth into the wonderful works of these amazing writers, we will dig deep to get the truth behind the words. So here we go let s get this started. Appearing in Orwelll s, Shooting an Elephant, it brings to the table of imperialism. He says that imperialism is that not just the conqueror, but the conquered are destroyed (Orwell, 1936). He shows that even though you have your own ideas, you feel as if you have to because of either the position they are in society or just in general. He describes as if you end up doing what they want you to do, you are losing and giving up a part of your freedom. It ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He brings the motivations of war to light. He calls them as blind patriotic and religious motivations for war (Twain, 1923). People in war ask for their soldiers to be protected, and as what happens in the poem a messenger for God comes to them and tells them that this is wrong. It is a great shock but in the end, they end up not believing him, saying he is not that even though their society has said that war is the answer. That this guy who says he is a messenger for God, is wrong, and that s what imperialism does it makes you want to not go against them. Next in the White Mans Burden, you see how the people who are precedent are bringing imperialism to their country. It is showing that they put a blind up after their people. To make them feel as if they are superior that they are doing good, and the people who are being told this have no clue how much they look so opposite of what they think. That is how it is, people put blinds over them to keep them from seeing how they are really being treated or how they are treating others (Kipling, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 41. Essay On Oliver Twist Oliver Twist by Charles Dickens is about a young orphan boy who leaves his orphanage to go to London after years of mistreatment. Being an orphan since birth due to his mother s death and father s absence, for the first nine years of his life, Oliver lives on what is referred to as a baby farm. However, at the age of nine he was moved from this baby farm to a workhouse by a man named Mr. Bumble. This is shown on page seven when a woman name Mrs. Mann, who Oliver was under the care of for the first nine years of his life, introduces Mr. Bumble to Oliver. This triggers the event that will begin Oliver s journey. While working at the workhouse, the living conditions are poor and the boys who work there eat small portions of what is referred to as gruel. One day, some of the boys decide to draw lots, whoever losing having to ask for more gruel. Young Oliver Twist loses and the task to ask for more falls to him. One line that this book is known for is then said by Oliver here on page 11 Please, sir, I want some more. • 42. America As A Melting Pot As soon as someone calls the United States a melting pot, I immediately picture the School House Rock music video in which hundreds of happy immigrants dive into the pot to swim together in harmony. The idea of America as a melting pot is, on the surface, a good intentioned metaphor that carries with it the implication of our unity within one, uniquely American culture. Unfortunately, this metaphor carries negative connotations as well, including forced assimilation into the majority as you melt away into the mix. Imagine five pieces of chocolate, one white, added to a heated saucepan; eventually, it all turns brown. Despite the multiplicity of cultures added to this melting pot, something is lost in the final product: diversity. In a melting pot, it is suggested that we blend together; we are indistinct; we are Americans united in one culture, one language, one creed. Simply stated, this is not an accurate representation of our country s culture or its citizens. I find the stew to be a much more appropriate metaphor. Even when heated and stirred, a stew maintains its individual elements (potatoes, beef, onions, carrots, celery, etc.), but also allows for some transfer of flavors. The beef flavor is infused with notes of carrot and onion; the carrots have the added flavors of the broth and beef. The stew continues to have unique, individual elements, but it tastes better in tangent with other flavors. This is a more fitting description of America, as citizens ...
