Krill In Antarctica
Antarctic krill are usually less than 6 cm in length but their size belies the major role they play in
sustaining much of the life in the Southern Ocean. They are the primary food source for many species
of whales, seals, penguins and fish.
Studies have shown that stocks of krill in Antarctica have declined dramatically in recent years. The
reason for this is likely to be a fall in the amount of sea ice in the winter months in the Antarctic
Peninsula region.
Krill numbers in this region may have dropped by as much as 80% since the 1970 s so today s stocks
are a mere 1/5th of what they were only 30 years ago. The decline in krill may in turn account for the
decline in the numbers of some penguin species.
In the early life stages krill require

Psychedelics s Role In Treating Mental Disorders
Psychedelics are an uncommon topic brought up in medicine. Because of the status of psychedelic
drugs being restricted for recreational use, in developed countries such as The United States of
America and The United Kingdom, it is hardly studied and looked at (Wolfson, 2015). However, with
prior history with psychedelic drugs such as Methamphetamine, Psilocybin and Lysergic acid
diethylamide, there is proof that these drugs have positive effects on treating mental disorders. Only
because of modern connotations, these psychedelic drugs are being rejected in medicine. However, in
other parts of the world such as Africa and The Amazon Rainforest, some of these drugs are regularly
used for spiritual and religious rituals (Kavenská, 2015). Regardless ... Show more content on

The man who synthesized it, Albert Hofmann, discovered it s hallucinogenic properties in 1943
(McCabe, 1974). He distributed the drug all over the world, creating a chain of countless studies with
this drug. By 1950, research studies on LSD were being conducted in major medical centers. In
America, Europe, and England, LSD was being used in treating various mental disorders (McCabe,
1974). Ranging from post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) to depression, to alcoholism, LSD assisted
psychotherapy showed to be a miracle in treatment. A recent clinical study done by Swiss psychiatrist,
Peter Gasser, models how safe effective LSD can be in the right context. He conducted a double blind
placebo controlled trial on participants with anxiety associated with life threatening diseases (Gasser
et al., 2014). Double blind placebo means that a placebo and an active drug will be administered.
Neither the patient nor the physician are aware of what drug is what. This ensures that no bias comes
from how the patient reacts or how the physician administers. Through thorough evaluations and
interviews with patients, 12 were chosen to be a part of the study (Gasser et al., 2014). Starting with 2
preparatory therapy sessions, the patients sat down with a physician to discuss various aspects of their
health. With discussions ranging from mental health, history and

Recent Developments in the Professionalisation of Teaching...
Recent developments in the professionalisation of teaching have emphasised the importance of values.
In the light of your own experience examine the extent to which personal values support or conflict
with professional objectives.
In this paper it will be necessary to look at what professionalisation and values are, what they mean,
and if they have any relevance within teaching in todays Further Education system. To fully
understand the above statement and explore it further, it is necessary to dissect the title and investigate
exactly what is professionalisation and and how its development came about. The Labour Government
asked the Lifelong Learning UK to initiate new professional standards for teaching in Further
Education in 2004. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In this respect the qualification is set out to verify the contents and matching objectives for external
verification, as it is to develop a coherent, logical and imaginative delivery of the subject matter. It fits
into the ideology of instrumentalism, where, Armitage, Bryant, Dunhill, al, (2003) tells us a highly
educated workforce with high levels of numeracy and literacy are essential to compete with
aspirational, developing countries in the fields of science and technology.
Whilst striving to incorporate new technologies into Further Education is this ideology as effective in
preparing students for their work role as it is in meeting socio political aims of our society? To try and
answer these questions it will be necessary to look at ethics, morals and values imparted whilst
teaching the curriculum in this area of Further of Education.
Philosophy is a method of reflective thinking regarding values and ideas, why and what is realistic to
believe about them. It can also be defined as a study of the meaning of life, knowledge and thought
(Collins pocket dictionary, 2008).
People have their own philosophies so we cannot say that everyone has the same ideas, especially
when it comes to educational philosophies. All Philosophies are not the same but have some
comparabilities. Educational philosophers merely are stating their own thoughts on education, and
what they think is best for the individual. It

A manager needs to understand the interdependency of departments, internal partnerships, and the
influence of power and politics to effectively manage across the organization. Effective managers use
various political tactics to increase their power within the organization to coordinate and support the
work of their peers and subordinates to meet company objectives. Managers regularly acquire and use
power. Power oriented behavior has an impact on managerial career progress, on job performance, on
organizational effectiveness, and on the personal lives of employees (Obholzer, 1995). It involves the
combined topics of power, influence, authority, and organizational politics. When running an

culture is the personality of the organization. Culture is comprised of the assumptions, values, norms
and tangible signs (artifacts) of organization members and their behaviors. Members of an
organization soon come to sense the particular culture of an organization. Culture is one of those terms
that are difficult to express distinctly, but everyone knows it when they sense it. For example, the
culture of a large, for profit corporation is quite different than that of a hospital which is quite different
that that of a university. You can tell the culture of an organization by looking at the arrangement of

from good oral hygiene practices.
What is plaque?
Before discussing how to remove plaque from teeth at home, it is first important for us to discuss what
it is and what causes it. After all, you can never treat something without fully understanding what it is,
its causes, as well as consequences.

In this case, you can do your own teeth staining to show whether there are plaques or not. You can
stain plaque by simply chewing red disclosing tablets which you can purchase from drug stores and
grocery stores. You may also use a cotton swab to smudge green food coloring on your teeth. The
colors red and green left on the teeth will give you an idea about the location of plaques and where
you need to brush your teeth again to remove it.
It is important that you check your teeth regularly for plaque presence so that you can ensure that you
remove all plaques properly and that it will not cause untoward problems such as tooth decay and gum

Marx And Engels s Impact On Society
to a mere money relation, (Marx and Engels [1848] 2013:35]. Marx, saw the tear down of the old as
the only way for the bourgeoisie to survive. Periodically, a crisis occurred where productive forces
threatened their conditions and bourgeoisie would have to bring in new productive forces and destroy
the old. Marx believed that these changes to technology and productive capacity were the main
influence on how society and the economy were organized. The bourgeoisie had to push for the
modern world to quickly and continually develop to protect capitalists monopolies. However, constant
development caused continual disturbances of social conditions by breaking down stable aspects of
human life. Capitalist used their power to push the world to advance so that they could prosper with
no concerns to the possible effects on the economy, which would have been most detrimental to the
proletariat. For Marx, this showed that capitalists self interest pushed economic progress, which led to
societal progress but also risked crisis. Capitalism not only affected society through the creation and
separation of social classes but also in influencing societal progress and social relations.
The bourgeoisie created capitalism using revolutionarily activity but in doing so it also created the
proletarians who Marx believed could use revolution to bring an end to capitalism. The proletariats
were a class that depended on selling their labor to survive. Being just another commodity

Comparing Women In Streetcar Named Desire And Death Of A...
The Street Car Named Desire and Death of a Salesmen both have central themes that center around
the main characters of the plays revealing both playwright s unrealistic expectations of women. The
characters of the plays struggle with being their own downfall. There are also the same place in which
we can see the characters struggle. The role of Stella and Linda are both very traditional women in
that the play they the p lay the stay at home wife. Stella, In the Street Car Named Desire is loyal to her
husband. Same as in Death of a Sales Linda is very shy and conservative around her husband.
However, this can really be seen due to the type of sentence structure and tone that is used when either
character is talking to their better half. Due to both Miller and Williams being men they depict the
women to act what a man would imagine a perfect wife would be. So, both of the playwright s
characters are not realistic but a fantasy and not an actual portray of women. In the play bot Linda and
Stella are only introduced to stand by their husbands. Both characters seem to only be present for
supporting their spouses by doing all the house chores as well as shielding them from harm. Both,

A Feminist Analysis Of Wonder Woman And Dianna
Wonder Woman
The arrival of Wonder Woman in theaters was celebrated with a fervor not felt since the first wave of
modern superhero films began. The potential of getting a female superhero film after decades of
studios dragging their feet or releasing bizarre messes like Catwoman powered this excitement. While
the character had appeared in adaptation before, these appearances were in animated films aimed at
the inner audience of comic aficionados, or in Saturday morning cartoons. These were fine
representations of the character and her story, but the last attempt to bring the character in front of
mainstream adult audiences were with the ABC/CBS show from the 70s. This was in contrast to the
other two members of the DC Trinity , Superman and Batman, having numerous theatrical outings. ...

Sometimes Wonder Woman can lend a unique and nuanced perspective on the plot points occurring
but there are several famous instances of her being written as a screeching harpy. (That have
fortunately been written out of continuity.) I am not sure if this needs to be said, but the accuracy of
the portrayal of feminist philosophy skyrockets when Dianna is being written by a woman.
Unsurprisingly, the screeching harpy scenes were written by a formerly great male writer who turned
into a conspiracy theory spewing xenophobe. This complicated history present in the comics clearly
demonstrates that without the excellent directorial talent displayed by Patty Jenkins, the film might
have turned into something quite

Pollock On Pollock s Technique
Pollock s Technique The technique that Jackson Pollock adopted was referred to by many as drip
painting. This technique can be seen in his works of art from 1937 and on. The way in which Pollock
created his drip paintings would be by taking ordinary house paint and either pouring, drizzling, or
flicking it across a canvas. To many critics and other artists, his technique appeared odd, especially
since he was known for not using any ordinary artist s tools. He removed himself from the confines of
what an artist was expected to use by getting rid of his easel and paintbrushes. Pollock succeeded by
eliminating the brushstroke as a mark of gestural energy, in getting his labyrinth of colours to emerge
in a more or less autonomous way on ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Like the American Indians who let sand run through their clenched fists to make very artistic patterns
and circles at their feet, Pollock created tangled webs of proliferating lines, curves, swirls and patches
in pure paint (Köster Röper, 2006, pp 152). When Pollock was witnessed painting, people would refer
to him as dancing across the canvas . Each painting was like a dance routine and he let the painting
guide his hand around and around in circles until it was completed. Pollock did not like for his
audience to be able to identify any trace of academic artistic quality. He was even notorious for
signing his paintings by pressing the palm of his hand down onto the wet paint. It was efficient for
him, especially since in his drip paintings he would never lift a brush. What this did to his work then
was no longer did he display a replica of a scene or person like most landscape and portrait artists, but
instead he displayed his fluent motion. As Jackson Pollock he began to introduce this technique he
began to drop the titled of his paintings. Instead of calling the paintings by an actual name, he would
instead number them. The idea behind this was so that people who looked at his art would not be
focused so much on figuring out what the name means and figuring out how it projects a hidden
meaning behind the artwork. The audience would alternatively have to come up with their own
meaning for the artwork in addition to

Cicero And The Catiline Conspiracy
Following the political defeat of Catiline, Cicero started giving speeches about the Catiline
Conspiracy in October of 63 BCE. Cicero realized Catiline was backed by commoners, so to combat
this, Cicero s first speech was aimed at calling out Catiline for his conspiracy. It is important to take
into consideration that this story is completely one sided from Cicero s point of view. Catiline s
arguments, for the most part, have been lost in history. With this in mind, Cicero announced to the
senate that Catiline ...watches and notes and marks down with his gaze each one of us he plots to

In 60 BCE, Caesar did what the Senate had been fearing, he came back to Rome and wanted to run for
Consul. Unfortunately, the Senate denied his attempt to run for Consul, but he was able to gain the
help from Crassus and Pompey, which contributed to his gaining of the position of Consul in 59 BCE.
After his term in 58 BCE was over, Caesar went north to conquer Gaul. As time passed, nearly 9
years, Caesar wanted to return to Rome, seeing as he conquered Gaul, and become Consul.
Unfortunately, the senate wanted to prosecute Caesar for the events that happened in 59 BCE. On top
of this, one of his supporters, Pompey who was now Consul, stopped supporting him because he was
threatened by the success Caesar had in Gaul. In the winter of 49 BCE, Caesar went to his winter
quarters in an attempt to come to an agreement with Pompey. Unfortunately, an agreement was not
made between the two and the Senate gave complete control of the Roman Empire to Pompey. This
event is what prompted Caesar to cross the Rubicon River. The Rubicon was a border between the two
provinces each of the men occupied. This act carried out by Caesar and his army was illegal under
Roman law and was categorized as an act of war, a Civil War.
This Civil war started in 49 BCE, which is the point many people argue the Roman Republic came to
an end. Caesar and Pompey, along with each of their own armies, were in an all out war battling on
Roman soil. Unlike Pompey, Caesar

Boundless Fluorine Essay
Introduction The elemental group F, Cl, Br, I, and At, located in the seventeenth column of the
periodic table, are known as Halogens. Halogens are nonmetals and they have an effective nuclear
charge, because of this they re highly electronegative. Due to their electronegativity, they re very
reactive and they gain electrons through reactions with other elements. However, halogens can be very
harmful or deadly to biological organisms. Physical properties of Halogens When the electron shells

The color of this element reflects the reactivity of it. The appearance is a very pale yellow green. This
element is a dangerously reactive gas. In fact it s one of the most reactive of all the elements and
reacts mostly to metals. An example of this is when steel wood is exposed to fluorine it bursts into
flames ( Fluorine Element Information, Properties and Uses | Periodic Table. Royal Society of

atom bomb and other projects having to do with that. It s also been used to help make gases for high
powered transformers. It s also used in teflon, cable insulation, plumbers tape, and a base for
waterproof shoes and clothes. Chlorine has a similar look to fluorine. Chlorine is a yellow green dense
gas. It has a very distinct smell to it and has been used as a chemical weapon. It also kills bacteria and
is used as a disinfectant. Chlorine disinfects drinking water and swimming pool water and is also used

The Importance Of Pearl In The Puritan Society
For about as long as organized religion has existed, faith has been passed down from parent to child.
The children are willed by their parents to follow a set religion and adhere completely to its values,
beliefs and rules. The Puritan time in America was no different. In fact it was likely the era in which
religion and adherence to it was taken the most seriously. The Puritans worship of religion was a
dictating factor when it came to laws, customs, and societal actions. In the novel The Scarlet Letter by
Nathaniel Hawthorne, the portrayal and treatment of Hester s daughter, Pearl, in the Puritan society
develops the theme that religion is an oppressive system of beliefs that dictates the actions and
thoughts of its followers.
Ever since her birth, Pearl s behavior has been a bit off relative to the normal Puritan standard. A
typical Puritan child would not play as a present day child would. They would mature quickly to help
with various chores and other duties that had to be done. Pearl, however, was different. She was
described on multiple occasions as being wild as she truly explored her freedom, and let her
imagination work freely. This is prevalent where Hawthorne writes about Pearl that, At home, within
and around her mother s cottage, Pearl wanted not a wide and various circle of acquaintance. The spell
of life went forth from her ever creative spirit, and communicated itself to a thousand objects, as a
torch kindles a flame wherever it may be applied.

Archetypes In Kingsolver s The Bean Trees
Because flowers go in cycles of life and death, we can look to them as archetypes. The cycle is really
closely related to the circle which is a very prominent archetype in the world today and the past. The
other thing I think of when I hear the word flowers is gardens. When I looked for the garden archetype
I found that gardens symbolize love and fertility (YourDictionary 2). Flowers and gardens also have
many symbols associated with them depending on who you ask.
Missy and her mother are shelling peas together talking about Missy getting a job (Kingsolver 5). This
section reminds me of when I shelled peas with grandma. There aren t any bean plant specific
archetypes but the color green symbolizes earth and growth (YourDictionary 3). Shelling beans can
constitute a change. In the book The Bean Trees this means that Missy is likely going to come out of
her shell and show who she really is. This foreshadows a little about how likely she is going to start a
life of her own and leave. This use of the symbol really adds to the story because it shows a growth of
the main character early on. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

theories. The five approaches will be, Health and wealth connection theory, cognitive theory,
psychoanalytic theory, attachment theory, and relational theory. To be summed up in the end with the
conclusion.
The Health and Wealth connection distilled is our health will most commonly reflect from our amount
of wealth. The wealthy can afford the cost of quality care and the time to take care of themselves.
Within the textbook, Dimensions of Human Behavior Hutchison writes. Public health experts have
long noted the association of poor clinical outcomes, in all body systems, with low income, low
education, unsanitary housing, poor healthcare, on stable employment, and uncertain physical
environment (Hutchison, 2015). Easily demonstrated throughout American society the rather dubious
and is a somewhat perplexing phenomenon of the Health and Wealth connection theory. The gap
between the haves and have nots are ever expanding. Those who have the funding to pay for resources
will pay to get those resources. And those who do not have sufficient funds to pay for said resources
will, unfortunately, have to stand in the long lines to receive seemingly, deceptively, scarce resources.

Types Of Multiple Personality Disorder
What is multiple personality disorder? Multiple personality disorder also known as Dissociative
Identity Disorder is a severe condition in which two or more distinct identities, or personality states,
are present in and interchangeably take control of an individual. DID is a disorder categorized by
identity division rather than a creation of separate personalities. The disorder is not due to the direct
psychological effects of a substance or of a general medical condition. DID was called Multiple
Personality Disorder until 1994, when the name was changed for a better understanding of the
condition. Multiple personality disorder fails to integrate several aspects of identity, memory, and
perception in a single multidimensional self. Generally, a prime identity carries the individual s given
name and is passive, dependent, guilty and depressed. When in control, each personality state, may be
experienced as if it has a different history, self image and identity. The secondary characteristics
including name, age and gender, vocabularies, general knowledge, and main mood, differentiate with
those of the prime identity. Certain situations or stressors can cause a particular personality to develop.
The various identities may deny awareness of one another, be critical of one another or seem to be in
an open struggle. Causes of Multiple Personality Disorder Why some people develop DID is not

Channels School System, RSU 1, and the Sheepscot Valley Regional School Unit is for three years.
Lange said he was concerned about the program involving verbally abusive and possible irrational
behavior students that may come to the school. He said he spoke with Wiscasset School Department
Superintendent Heather Wilmot who told him that security has not been included in the plan.
Lange said he requested all paperwork associated with this program to conduct a study about other
schools that currently have this program and determine what staffing would be needed based on
possible issues they have encountered.
Although the student population is declining over the past year the calls for the school resource officer
has increased due to the present population of irrational juveniles and other incidents, Lange said.
After hearing comments from the public expressing concern with the program, the selectmen decided

Butterfly Theory In A Sound Of Thunder
The Story I chose for my research paper was A Sound of Thunder by Ray Bradbury. I chose this story
because out of all the stories I ve read this semester this one has been the most intriguing. It s a story
like no other a story set in a distant future that I hope I never live to see. Time travel is inherently
dangerous and should never be used lightly. The butterfly effect otherwise known as the chaos theory
is a prime example of why you should never screw with the past. The chaos theory is defined as
followed in the Dictionary Butterfly effect (with reference to chaos theory) the phenomenon whereby
a minute localized change in a complex system can have large effects elsewhere .
Before we look into the story it s important to analyses this theory further. Because it s a very
important part of this story. If you go back in time and kill a butterfly, when you return the world
could be a completely different place. So, what its saying is if you mess with the natural order of time
by killing or destroying something before its time, there could be grave consequences in store when
you return to your time.
Now that we have a basic understanding of the butterfly effect let s look at Time travel itself. Einstein
s theory is as follows Einstein s theory of special relativity says that time slows down or speeds up
depending on how fast you move relative to something else. Approaching the speed of light, a person
inside a spaceship would age much slower than his twin at home. Also,

The Crime Of A Juvenile Gang Essay
A juvenile gang is a group of youth that causes intimidation and commit criminal acts to gain power to
be in control. According to a study done by David Pyrooz, a professor at Sam Houston State
University in Huntsville Texas, more than one million juveniles in the United States of America is in a
gang. The study found 40% of juvenile gangs are non Hispanic white and the rest is Black and Latino.
The study also found, 30% of those gang members were females. Most youth who joins gangs do so
around ages 12 or 13, but the peak age for gang membership is 14 and 15years old. Although gang
membership is portrayed as a lifelong commitment, the average gang member joins at age 14 and only
stays in for about two years. Only 40% of all gangs will allow females to join, and there are
approximately 32,000 female gang members. There are many factors why juveniles join gangs, and
some of them are because it increases self esteem, they have access to drugs to either sell or use them,
and it gives the males opportunities to meet up with other young females and have sex. A negative
factor is peer pressure. Some factors why females join gangs are sexual abuse and victimization,
family dysfunctions, emotional disorders, exposure to violence, and negligence. Some youths parents
aren t in the home, they have nobody forcing them to go to school, and then they start failing which
leads to drop outs. Many juvenile gang prevention programs were created in the United States, to
provide services to

Sexism In The Wild
Even when the founding fathers began to rise up, there was still a common stereotype of women being
weak and powerless. Described in her letter, Abigail Adams says the truth about men back then that
could be applied to the average common man today. I desire you would Remember the Ladies, [...].
Do not put such unlimited power into the hands of the Husbands. (Kylene G. Beers 111). Even back
then women had troubles fitting in with the tyrants that men are, there has been little change in the
status quo. This means there must be a call for change, to get rid of sexism. Sexism is everywhere,
even in online communities for video games. League of Legends, a fast paced real time strategy game
published by Riot Games, upholds the title of one

How To Be A Military Leader Essay
Leadership is defined as the ability to accomplish a set goal(s) due to the act of inspiring and
motivating a group of your peers. Former United States president Dwight D. Eisenhower made
famous a quote that stated, Leadership consists of nothing but taking responsibility for everything that
goes wrong and giving your subordinates credit for everything that goes well. (Notable quotes.com).
One of the most important aspects of the work area is leadership. Without leadership, there will be no
guidance to for teamwork and the percentage of successful goal will be slim to none. Becoming a
great leader is no easy feat however. An exceptional leader must lock in on specific attributes such as
intellect, moral character, and human ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The warning order must also follow the guidelines of the five paragraph OPORD format. A warning
issue may include what the mission consists of, coordinating instructions, deadline, and who is all
responsible for seeing this task is seen through. Which brings us to our final step of leader s
responsibilities: make a tentative plan. This is what really separates the boys from the men. Up until
now, it was merely receiving orders of what to do and who is a part of the plan. Step 3 is all about the
plan for mission essentials, analysis, specific and implied tasks, and a restated mission report. The
responsibility for this step is something not for the weak minded as no situation is the same.
Throughout history our country has had many leaders. Whether you re the leader of a business,
military platoon, or the leader of our great nation you were withheld with the honor and trust to govern
the actions and best interests of fellow Americans. But just because you have achieved the title of a
leader does not by default make you a good leader. A good leader is a person who has risen above and
beyond to show cooperation, perseverance, and respect to decisions made by those still above you at
one point in time. As a seasoned member of the military, you ve risen through the ranks because you
understood your mission and performed your duties with distinction. At this stage of your career, your
most important contribution may be how well you take care of the service members and

Greed And Regret In W. Jacobs The Monkey s Paw
W. W. Jacobs The Monkey s Paw contains many themes throughout its story; Greed and Regret being
the most critical and strong, the author writes about these polarising themes to connect many others.
You will notice that the characters Mr White , Herbert White and Major Morris are the best characters
to show the theme of Greed as I will explain. The author begins with telling about a game of chess
with Mr White and his son, a game within which he possesses ideas involving radical change ; Mr
White plays in a cocky way by putting his king into such sharp and unnecessary perils , and notices
his evident defeat. By Mr White underestimating and disrespecting his young son, he shows his greed
at play on the table of chess. When Major Morris enters the scene, the conversation in the room shifts
to his ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Major Morris, at first hesitant to speak about the matter, is broken by his greed to entertain the White
family and tells them about his experience with the Monkey s Paw . Major Morris later casts the
Monkey s Paw into the fire hoping to protect from its evils, but Mr White does not realise the true
results of the wishes and takes the paw for himself. I find out later about what grievances the Monkey
s Paw brings to the family thus being the result of Major Morris greed. In the case of Herbert White,
he shows his greed through winning his way to being the man of the house instead of his dad. When
he asks his father to wish for being an emperor so he can t be henpecked or when he asks If you only
cleared the house, you d be quite happy, wouldn t you? Herbert is attacking his father s weak points,
showing a sign of greed for status in the house and above his father. Concluding, W. W. Jacobs has the
theme of Greed written in this short story similar to the roots of a tree, bringing all other themes into
fruition. Herbert is transitioned into the theme of Family , Mr White experiences the theme of Failure
and Major Morris meets Regret in The Monkey s

How Important Is The Us Economy In The 1920 s
Our Nation s Economy
Every successful country needs a successful economical system. If a country s economy is big,
wealthy, and powerful, that country is set, at least for the time being. The United States and its
massive budget are a great example. The U.S. economy is a very capitalistic, risky, and stressful
endeavor.
This great nation s economy is powered by the almighty power of capitalism. We are number one
when it comes to the size and importance of our budget (US Economy). Ipso Facto during the United
States prime, many countries wanted to emulate the United States due to their extraordinary financial
standing compared to the rest of the World (McBride). This want to push towards United States levels
of success has caused many countries to shift to a more capitalistic way of thinking. Capitalism is a
system in which goods and services are offered on the free market, with buyers and sellers coming
together to determine the price of those goods and services (US Economy). During the 1920 s, the

It can all go downhill very easily. Due to the nature of capitalism and the free market, when
unemployment rises, spending buyers grow sparse (US Economy). Sellers absolutely depend on
consumers to buy their products and services. If the public doesn t have any money to spend, they,
quite simply, don t spend. For example, just six years removed from the greatest financial cataclysm
since the Great Depression, the US continues... down the same perilous economic path (McBride).
The crisis referred to in the quote was the meltdown of 2009, a seismic and nearly deafening blow
towards American consumerism. Many more people as of this event are either in debt, poor, homeless,
or a combination of these factors. The worst part is if the United States government, at least according
to Jonathan Kirshner, had reformed the economic sector, we could ve avoided this setback and stopped
our downward spiral

Microcultures in Canada A Comparative Approach Introduction Every society contains both a
mainstream culture and many different subcultures. The mainstream culture is how one is identified
as. However, microcultures consist of how we identify ourselves within the global mainstream culture.
There are multitudes of ways to participate in a microculture. It could be along ethnic, religious lines,
or even lifestyle. All these factors come into play with regards to the different aspects of
microcultures. This paper will delve into all three types of microcultures; it will look at Vietnamese,
Jewish, and Vegan cultures and compare them to mainstream Canadian culture. The subsequent

Vietnam s colourful history dates back thousands of years to when settlers began harvesting rice in the
fertile ground of the red river valley. However, despite its peaceful beginnings, the subsequent years
brought significant turmoil as the nation fell victim to several takeovers from China and Mongolia.
Over the course of centuries, the land was a hotly contest by east Asian leaders until Emperor Gia

united the nation for the first time (localhistories.org). In spite of this, independence was short lived as
colonisation became prominent in the Western world. In the late 19th century France invaded the
country, making Vietnam a French colony. The change of power caused some tensions to the region as
internal and external forces pressured the French rule. In the mid 20th century, warfare once again
engulfed the nation as Ho Chi Minh and his communist party sought to regain Vietnam s
independence. With the intention of uniting the north and south, he undertook a guerilla style war
against the south who was backed by the United states. The conflict continued until 1975 when the
Communist regime united the country at last (local histories). In the years that followed, the nation has

A Sad but Necessary Tragedy
In September of 1951, Japan signed the Treaty of San Francisco which officially ended the tensions
between itself and the United States. However before then, in August of 1945, the United States built
two atomic bombs called Little Boy and Fat Man; but, they did not truly know the horrific and
disastrous effects that these weapons were capable of ( The Avalon Project ). On August 6th and 9th
1945, the United States dropped these two atomic bombs on the Japanese cities: Hiroshima and
Nagasaki. Little Boy and Fat Man detonated approximately 500 600 feet above the ground and caused
a massive impact on Japan that are almost too horrific to describe ( The Avalon Project ). The outcome

They lost most of their territory including the Kurile and Ryukyu Islands, and all territory acquired
after 1894 ( Japanese History: Postwar ). Japan also lost its military and right to create or own a new

country. Over 200,000 soldiers, who fought in the military in World War II, were convicted of war
crimes and banned from any public office (Japan 1123). They had no power over any foreign country
and had lost all of their influence on foreign countries as well. In August of 1945, the occupation of
Japan by the United States started and would last till April of 1952 ( Japanese History: Postwar ). This
occupation consisted of three phases. In the first phase, Japan established an extensive amount of
political, social, and economic reforms (Japan 1122). These reforms focused on fixing the economic,
political, and social systems so that Japan could rebuild into a stronger empire. For example, in 1947,
Japan obtained a new constitution which revoked all of the emperor s power ( Japanese History:
Postwar ). In the second phase, Japan focused only on repairing their economy (Japan 1122). This
phase became very important because it stabilized and grew the Japanese economy. It allowed them to
progress even further than they had begun with before the war. In the third period, Japan focused on
preparing for the post occupation era (Japan

Trust In Educational Leadership
Within an organization, who do you trust and why?
In an organization, trust often involves a mutual dependence upon other people and must therefore
depend on them in numerous ways to achieve their personal and organizational goals. Assuming that I
was a new community college president, the first day on the job I d offer the following belief:
I believe that educational leadership should be based on the principles of trust. Honesty is expected
from me and my superiors; above all, we are worthy of trust. When principles of trust require
amendments, I will defend my beliefs and will not forfeit my belief standards for convenience
(Hudson, 2013, p. 1) .
As leaders we ought to examine beyond the subtleties of trust and not mistake it for what ... Show

Is there a difference between trusting superiors, colleagues, and subordinates?
The difference between trusting superiors, colleagues, and subordinates falls in the category of
respect. Bartolomé, (1989) states, People love to give the boss good news. But subordinates are never
eager to tell their supervisors that the latest scheme isn t working, to assume ownership of a problem

essential to help subordinates feel comfortable delivering an unpleasant message. If a problem exists,
it needs to be disclosed, after that the problem can be diagnosed and corrected as soon as possible, no

Alex Darcovich 16/01/16 SVN3M OUTLINE The 2016 Wild Parsnip strategy includes eradication via

plant species, Wild Parsnip (Pastinaca sativa), has been seen growing rapidly across many places in

The phototoxicity is all thanks to their furanocoumarins, the toxic organic chemicals produced as a
mechanism of defense against herbivores. If the sap of the parsnip comes into contact with the skin of

include: Scars from Chemical Burns Blisters Stinging and Itching pains Hyperpigmentation
(darkening of the skin and nails due to an increased presence of melanin) Several citizens of eastern
Ontario have recalled incidents where they had been affected by the wild parsnip. Some were
fortunate and got away with little damage, but some had to face harsh consequences. One example
included an 11 year old boy named Jacob Salter. He was riding his bicycle on a trail in the Greenwood
Conservation area in Pickering but accidentally fell off and landed into a parsnip bush. The aftermath
of that incident was a leg covered in large red blisters and painful rashes. He was lucky, as he
managed to get to the doctor quickly enough to get his leg treated with topical cream, that would leave

The words of the Lotus Sutra can be found chanted in Buddhist temples like Muddy Water. The text
takes into account the bodhisattva, meaning future Buddha. Those who follow Mahayana believe that
the bodhisattva is encouraged to be interdependent and should not imagine ending their careers until
all beings are enlightened (Esposito, Fasching, Lewis, 2015). Before I went to visit Muddy Water Zen
Temple, I did additional research on the temple by Googling where they were located and if they had a
website. Once I found out that they had a website, I browsed through it to see if I could learn anything
new about their practices that may not be in the books provided in this course. I discovered more
information about The Taego Order. It is known to be the largest Zen order in the world. The Taego
Order is the second largest order in Korean Buddhism. This order allows ordained monks to be
married with the belief that a married monk can be a great asset in sharing the Dharma and counseling
with the lay community (The Taego Order, n.d.). Before the Cho Sun Dynasty took over Korea, there
were five schools of Korean Buddhism and nine Zen schools. Once the Cho Sun Dynasty was
mandated, Korean Buddhism was collapsed to two large schools and were established under
Confucian ideals. King Tae Jong ordered the two schools to be combined into one school and The

  • 2. Krill In Antarctica Antarctic krill are usually less than 6 cm in length but their size belies the major role they play in sustaining much of the life in the Southern Ocean. They are the primary food source for many species of whales, seals, penguins and fish. Studies have shown that stocks of krill in Antarctica have declined dramatically in recent years. The reason for this is likely to be a fall in the amount of sea ice in the winter months in the Antarctic Peninsula region. Krill numbers in this region may have dropped by as much as 80% since the 1970 s so today s stocks are a mere 1/5th of what they were only 30 years ago. The decline in krill may in turn account for the decline in the numbers of some penguin species. In the early life stages krill require ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Psychedelics s Role In Treating Mental Disorders Psychedelics are an uncommon topic brought up in medicine. Because of the status of psychedelic drugs being restricted for recreational use, in developed countries such as The United States of America and The United Kingdom, it is hardly studied and looked at (Wolfson, 2015). However, with prior history with psychedelic drugs such as Methamphetamine, Psilocybin and Lysergic acid diethylamide, there is proof that these drugs have positive effects on treating mental disorders. Only because of modern connotations, these psychedelic drugs are being rejected in medicine. However, in other parts of the world such as Africa and The Amazon Rainforest, some of these drugs are regularly used for spiritual and religious rituals (Kavenská, 2015). Regardless ... He distributed the drug all over the world, creating a chain of countless studies with this drug. By 1950, research studies on LSD were being conducted in major medical centers. In America, Europe, and England, LSD was being used in treating various mental disorders (McCabe, 1974). Ranging from post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) to depression, to alcoholism, LSD assisted psychotherapy showed to be a miracle in treatment. A recent clinical study done by Swiss psychiatrist, Peter Gasser, models how safe effective LSD can be in the right context. He conducted a double blind placebo controlled trial on participants with anxiety associated with life threatening diseases (Gasser et al., 2014). Double blind placebo means that a placebo and an active drug will be administered. Neither the patient nor the physician are aware of what drug is what. This ensures that no bias comes from how the patient reacts or how the physician administers. Through thorough evaluations and interviews with patients, 12 were chosen to be a part of the study (Gasser et al., 2014). Starting with 2 preparatory therapy sessions, the patients sat down with a physician to discuss various aspects of their health. With discussions ranging from mental health, history and ... In the light of your own experience examine the extent to which personal values support or conflict with professional objectives. In this paper it will be necessary to look at what professionalisation and values are, what they mean, and if they have any relevance within teaching in todays Further Education system. To fully understand the above statement and explore it further, it is necessary to dissect the title and investigate exactly what is professionalisation and and how its development came about. Whilst striving to incorporate new technologies into Further Education is this ideology as effective in preparing students for their work role as it is in meeting socio political aims of our society? To try and answer these questions it will be necessary to look at ethics, morals and values imparted whilst teaching the curriculum in this area of Further of Education. Philosophy is a method of reflective thinking regarding values and ideas, why and what is realistic to believe about them. It can also be defined as a study of the meaning of life, knowledge and thought (Collins pocket dictionary, 2008). People have their own philosophies so we cannot say that everyone has the same ideas, especially when it comes to educational philosophies. • 8. Marx And Engels s Impact On Society to a mere money relation, (Marx and Engels [1848] 2013:35]. Marx, saw the tear down of the old as the only way for the bourgeoisie to survive. Periodically, a crisis occurred where productive forces threatened their conditions and bourgeoisie would have to bring in new productive forces and destroy the old. Marx believed that these changes to technology and productive capacity were the main influence on how society and the economy were organized. The bourgeoisie had to push for the modern world to quickly and continually develop to protect capitalists monopolies. However, constant development caused continual disturbances of social conditions by breaking down stable aspects of human life. Capitalist used their power to push the world to advance so that they could prosper with no concerns to the possible effects on the economy, which would have been most detrimental to the proletariat. For Marx, this showed that capitalists self interest pushed economic progress, which led to societal progress but also risked crisis. Capitalism not only affected society through the creation and separation of social classes but also in influencing societal progress and social relations. The potential of getting a female superhero film after decades of studios dragging their feet or releasing bizarre messes like Catwoman powered this excitement. While the character had appeared in adaptation before, these appearances were in animated films aimed at the inner audience of comic aficionados, or in Saturday morning cartoons. These were fine representations of the character and her story, but the last attempt to bring the character in front of mainstream adult audiences were with the ABC/CBS show from the 70s. • 12. Pollock On Pollock s Technique Pollock s Technique The technique that Jackson Pollock adopted was referred to by many as drip painting. This technique can be seen in his works of art from 1937 and on. The way in which Pollock created his drip paintings would be by taking ordinary house paint and either pouring, drizzling, or flicking it across a canvas. To many critics and other artists, his technique appeared odd, especially since he was known for not using any ordinary artist s tools. He removed himself from the confines of what an artist was expected to use by getting rid of his easel and paintbrushes. Pollock succeeded by eliminating the brushstroke as a mark of gestural energy, in getting his labyrinth of colours to emerge in a more or less autonomous way on ... Like the American Indians who let sand run through their clenched fists to make very artistic patterns and circles at their feet, Pollock created tangled webs of proliferating lines, curves, swirls and patches in pure paint (Köster Röper, 2006, pp 152). When Pollock was witnessed painting, people would refer to him as dancing across the canvas . Each painting was like a dance routine and he let the painting guide his hand around and around in circles until it was completed. Pollock did not like for his audience to be able to identify any trace of academic artistic quality. He was even notorious for signing his paintings by pressing the palm of his hand down onto the wet paint. It was efficient for him, especially since in his drip paintings he would never lift a brush. What this did to his work then was no longer did he display a replica of a scene or person like most landscape and portrait artists, but instead he displayed his fluent motion. As Jackson Pollock he began to introduce this technique he began to drop the titled of his paintings. Instead of calling the paintings by an actual name, he would instead number them. The idea behind this was so that people who looked at his art would not be focused so much on figuring out what the name means and figuring out how it projects a hidden meaning behind the artwork. The audience would alternatively have to come up with their own meaning for the artwork in addition to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

After his term in 58 BCE was over, Caesar went north to conquer Gaul. As time passed, nearly 9 years, Caesar wanted to return to Rome, seeing as he conquered Gaul, and become Consul. Unfortunately, the senate wanted to prosecute Caesar for the events that happened in 59 BCE. In the winter of 49 BCE, Caesar went to his winter quarters in an attempt to come to an agreement with Pompey. Unfortunately, an agreement was not made between the two and the Senate gave complete control of the Roman Empire to Pompey. This event is what prompted Caesar to cross the Rubicon River. The Rubicon was a border between the two provinces each of the men occupied. This act carried out by Caesar and his army was illegal under Roman law and was categorized as an act of war, a Civil War. Which also explains why they used fluorine in the Second World War to help develop the atom bomb and other projects having to do with that. It s also been used to help make gases for high powered transformers. It s also used in teflon, cable insulation, plumbers tape, and a base for waterproof shoes and clothes. Chlorine has a similar look to fluorine. Chlorine is a yellow green dense gas. It has a very distinct smell to it and has been used as a chemical weapon. It also kills bacteria and is used as a disinfectant. Chlorine disinfects drinking water and swimming pool water and is also used in organic chemistry. • 15. The Importance Of Pearl In The Puritan Society For about as long as organized religion has existed, faith has been passed down from parent to child. The children are willed by their parents to follow a set religion and adhere completely to its values, beliefs and rules. The Puritan time in America was no different. In fact it was likely the era in which religion and adherence to it was taken the most seriously. The Puritans worship of religion was a dictating factor when it came to laws, customs, and societal actions. In the novel The Scarlet Letter by Nathaniel Hawthorne, the portrayal and treatment of Hester s daughter, Pearl, in the Puritan society develops the theme that religion is an oppressive system of beliefs that dictates the actions and thoughts of its followers. Ever since her birth, Pearl s behavior has been a bit off relative to the normal Puritan standard. A typical Puritan child would not play as a present day child would. They would mature quickly to help with various chores and other duties that had to be done. Pearl, however, was different. She was described on multiple occasions as being wild as she truly explored her freedom, and let her imagination work freely. This is prevalent where Hawthorne writes about Pearl that, At home, within and around her mother s cottage, Pearl wanted not a wide and various circle of acquaintance. The spell of life went forth from her ever creative spirit, and communicated itself to a thousand objects, as a torch kindles a flame wherever it may be applied. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 16. Archetypes In Kingsolver s The Bean Trees Because flowers go in cycles of life and death, we can look to them as archetypes. The cycle is really closely related to the circle which is a very prominent archetype in the world today and the past. The other thing I think of when I hear the word flowers is gardens. When I looked for the garden archetype I found that gardens symbolize love and fertility (YourDictionary 2). Flowers and gardens also have many symbols associated with them depending on who you ask. Missy and her mother are shelling peas together talking about Missy getting a job (Kingsolver 5). This section reminds me of when I shelled peas with grandma. There aren t any bean plant specific archetypes but the color green symbolizes earth and growth (YourDictionary 3). Shelling beans can constitute a change. In the book The Bean Trees this means that Missy is likely going to come out of her shell and show who she really is. This foreshadows a little about how likely she is going to start a life of her own and leave. This use of the symbol really adds to the story because it shows a growth of the main character early on. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... By the end of the book Missy is still interested in riches, but it s different than we would expect. Missy is interested in the riches of knowing and raising a child who she loves and cares for. • 18. Types Of Multiple Personality Disorder What is multiple personality disorder? Multiple personality disorder also known as Dissociative Identity Disorder is a severe condition in which two or more distinct identities, or personality states, are present in and interchangeably take control of an individual. DID is a disorder categorized by identity division rather than a creation of separate personalities. The disorder is not due to the direct psychological effects of a substance or of a general medical condition. DID was called Multiple Personality Disorder until 1994, when the name was changed for a better understanding of the condition. Multiple personality disorder fails to integrate several aspects of identity, memory, and perception in a single multidimensional self. Generally, a prime identity carries the individual s given name and is passive, dependent, guilty and depressed. When in control, each personality state, may be experienced as if it has a different history, self image and identity. The secondary characteristics including name, age and gender, vocabularies, general knowledge, and main mood, differentiate with those of the prime identity. Certain situations or stressors can cause a particular personality to develop. The various identities may deny awareness of one another, be critical of one another or seem to be in an open struggle. • 21. Butterfly Theory In A Sound Of Thunder The Story I chose for my research paper was A Sound of Thunder by Ray Bradbury. I chose this story because out of all the stories I ve read this semester this one has been the most intriguing. It s a story like no other a story set in a distant future that I hope I never live to see. Time travel is inherently dangerous and should never be used lightly. The butterfly effect otherwise known as the chaos theory is a prime example of why you should never screw with the past. The chaos theory is defined as followed in the Dictionary Butterfly effect (with reference to chaos theory) the phenomenon whereby a minute localized change in a complex system can have large effects elsewhere . Before we look into the story it s important to analyses this theory further. Because it s a very important part of this story. If you go back in time and kill a butterfly, when you return the world could be a completely different place. So, what its saying is if you mess with the natural order of time by killing or destroying something before its time, there could be grave consequences in store when you return to your time. Now that we have a basic understanding of the butterfly effect let s look at Time travel itself. According to a study done by David Pyrooz, a professor at Sam Houston State University in Huntsville Texas, more than one million juveniles in the United States of America is in a gang. The study found 40% of juvenile gangs are non Hispanic white and the rest is Black and Latino. The study also found, 30% of those gang members were females. Most youth who joins gangs do so around ages 12 or 13, but the peak age for gang membership is 14 and 15years old. Although gang membership is portrayed as a lifelong commitment, the average gang member joins at age 14 and only stays in for about two years. Only 40% of all gangs will allow females to join, and there are approximately 32,000 female gang members. There are many factors why juveniles join gangs, and some of them are because it increases self esteem, they have access to drugs to either sell or use them, and it gives the males opportunities to meet up with other young females and have sex. A negative factor is peer pressure. Some factors why females join gangs are sexual abuse and victimization, family dysfunctions, emotional disorders, exposure to violence, and negligence.
