Modern Day Growth And Development
The most imminent threat to our planet is our ignorance. Every time we choose to disregard, the
problems we face continue to cultivate. The Sustainable Development Goals are one of the most
recent initiatives to realize the danger the planet faces. Of the numerous environmental issues included
in its schema, one is energy. More specifically, the need to warrant accessibility and affordability of
modern energy to everyone across the globe.
The agenda under this division of clean energy segments into multiple targets which the Division for
Sustainable Development (DSD) of the United Nations hopes to achieve by the year 2030. Energy

Simply stating universal access fails to set a quantitative target for the governments to achieve, leaving
an open ended target which to a great extent is non measurable. No one can be statistically held
accountable for failing to meet the target. However, numerous entitles currently operating have
gathered data to give some insight into the lack of availability of modern energy to countless around
the globe. The International Energy Agency (IEA) plays a leading role in underlining this particular
target and has estimated that an additional US$45 billion needs to be invested annually till 2030 to

How To Write A Picnic At Hanging Rock Essay
PICNIC AT HANGING ROCK PRACTICE ESSAY
The novel Picnic at Hanging Rock written by Joan Lindsay in 1967 is set in Australia and tells the
story of a class of female students who attend an exclusive private girls boarding school called
Appleyard College. In 1900, most of the students and staff go on an excursion to the isolated Hanging
Rock where three girls and a teacher inexplicably vanish after climbing the rock on a Valentine s Day
picnic. The text explores the outlying effects the disappearances have on the school and local
community as the authorities conduct an exhaustive search for the missing four. Picnic at Hanging
Rock has been adapted across numerous mediums and is most renowned in the 1975 film adaptation
by director Peter Weir. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Peter Weir s film adaptation of the novel explores many themes and ideas of the original text;
however, through various cinematic techniques, he is able to enhance and bring to life aspects of the
novel such as the rock and the foreign Australian landscape, the innocence of the girls and the
claustrophobic atmosphere of the college, and finally, the terrible effects of the girl s disappearance on
those left behind.
Through the incorporation of soundtrack and camera angles, Weir enhances the rock and Australian
bush by transforming these two aspects of the novel into an even darker and sinister presence which
looms over the individuals in the film. Within Lindsay s novel, the rock is mentioned on several
occasions and is referred to have soaring peaks and a powerful presence which gives readers the idea
that it is a potentially dangerous location. However, in the film, the rock is portrayed like a character
in its own right and is purposely made to be more frightening. The haunting pan pipes are played in
the background when the camera pans on the rock to depict the implacable monoliths as a menacing
creature which lures the girls. Pan was the god who seduced and kidnapped young nymphs and

Danger and NASCAR Essay
Danger and NASCAR
I had never even heard of Dale Earnhardt until he crashed into eternity, but now here I am writing a
column about him (King, 64). This reaction, recorded by Florence King in National Review, seems to
be a common one since Earnhardt s death in the Daytona 500. Dale Earnhardt was a driver in the
Winston Cup circuit for the National Association of Stock Car Auto Racing (NASCAR). Despite the
fact that he is arguably the most popular NASCAR driver, many people did not know who he was
until he died. It is sad to realize that sometimes it takes death to become recognized. However, Dale is
not the only NASCAR driver who is becoming known from his death. In a span of nine months, Tony

Bill France was elected president, and his family is still involved today.
Junior Johnson, a NASCAR hero, is a true example of where the sport came from. He was raised in a
moonshine family. Johnson s father taught him many values such as no stealing or lying. Although it
seemed contradictory that they were breaking the law everyday with their business, apparently it was
all they could do to survive. When a school friend named Millard Ashley was asked about Junior s
driving, he replied, Junior? Hell, he d run wide open all the time....Yeah, he was pretty bad about that.
He was always blowing a head gasket or somethin (Menzer, 61). Junior had a talent for making his
cars faster with better handling than those of the law s. Outrunning law enforcement officers became a
means for the drivers to learn the knowledge needed in increasing a car s, or racecar s performance.
NASCAR has come a long way since those days in the 1940 s.
A 1999 survey of sports sponsors by Street Smith s Sports Business Journal ranked NASCAR No. 1 in
licensing, promotional opportunities, retail tie ins, client endorsements and media coverage ahead of
the NFL, NBA and Professional Golf Association (Advertising Age, Sc 1).
In its beginnings, the word Stock in Stockcar was literal. It meant that the racecar was the car that you
drove on the street. Lee Petty and his son Richard drove to the first Winston Cup race (1949)

Adversity In Lorraine Hansberry s A Raisin In The Sun
People constantly determine that hardships prepare them for an anomalous triumph and that without
adversity they will not have the strength to excel. However, in trying to achieve adversity people
damage their psychological well being, just like the Tuskegee Airmen who faced racial discrimination
for serving their country. Although this may be true, the Roman poet Horace elucidates that Adversity
has the effect of eliciting talents which in prosperous circumstances would have lain dormant . This is
often exemplified in A Raisin in the Sun and through Cristian Mariano Deppeler. To initiate, if it wasn
t for the hardships that adversity exposes people to, then many would not see meaning in their life, and
in some cases, end up putting and end to it. For instance, the story of Cristian Mariano Deppeler, a
social communicator that is known today for his video on YouTube in which he shocked the world and
affirmed that he is not disabled . Even though the doctors said that Deppeler was going to be a
vegetable for the rest of his life, since he suffered cerebral palsy, Deppeler managed to graduate from

Introduction Of Open General Licensing
2.4.1.2 Ad Hoc Liberalization, 1976 91 In 1976; novel strategy of liberalization called Open General
Licensing (OGL) , which was mainly planned during wartime, however remained inert due to
repetitive devaluation, was introduced. The mechanism based on a listing principle comprised of
placing the items on the list of OGL; otherwise those items were subjected to obtaining a license from
the Ministry of Commerce. However, this license was not entitled as an allowance of autonomous
import activities, but rather than a clearance for possibly end users (Fujita, 2007). OGL achieved a
successful cover of capital goods and intermediate inputs since its launch in 1976. As shown in Table

performance of importing activities was an increment in agrarian yielding s and discovery of oil.
These two elements led to generate unique places for products such as mechanical equipment that are

policy onto stricter sanctions if it occurred 20 years ago: In June 1991, a destructive balance of
payment crisis emerged in India; once again during a liberalization period. (Topalova, 2004). This
crisis mainly stimulated by internal and external indebtedness situation of the state that was unable to
generate a balanced fiscal expansion while primarily focusing instant growth of the economy itself. In

Analysis Of Edgar Allan Poe s I Became Insane, With...
As stated by Edgar Allen Poe, a prominent gothic author, I became insane, with long intervals of
horrible sanity (Poe). Gothic authors were known for writing about insanity, but also becoming insane
themselves. Poe was one of the authors that were known for becoming insane after writing about it for
so long. Gothic period authors use terror and horror throughout novels, as well. Gothic literature was
written in the late eighteenth and early nineteenth century. American Gothicism adapted the writing
techniques and from European Gothicism. American authors adapted plots from others and made them
into their own. The movement began by writing about the terrifying Indians of the frontier (Snodgrass
1). Gothic literature draws on a combination of terror and romanticism as its foundation. Movement
authors incorporated more psychological aspects into the novels instead of peaceful aspects. Edgar
Allan Poe, Herman Melville and Nathaniel Hawthorne are influential authors of the movement. The
authors incorporate the unique qualities of gothic literature in their works. In particular, Gothic period
author Charles Brockden Brown incorporates the two characteristics of insanity and an atmosphere of
mystery in his novels Wieland and Edgar Huntley.
Undoubtedly, Gothicism was meant to focus on the darker side of human nature (Gothic Literature).
This literary movement began from authors that believed the novels in the transcendentalism
movement were too optimistic. The readers became

The Effects Of Hormones On The Body s Central Glucocorticoid
Upon activation by an emotional or physical stressor, corticotropic releasing hormone (CRH) is
released from the paraventricular cells of the hypothalamus and exerts its effect on the anterior
pituitary gland Here, CRH stimulates the synthesis of adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH) and its
release into the bloodstream [19,20]. In turn, ACTH acts on receptors of the adrenal cortex to
stimulate the synthesis and release of cortisol [19,20]. Also known as the body s stress hormone ,
cortisol travels through the blood in both protein bound (inactive) and free (active) forms. Cortisol can
act to limit its own synthesis via a negative feedback mechanism to the hypothalamus and pituitary
gland [19,20]. Upon reaching a target cell, free cortisol diffuses through the cell membrane to bind to
the cytoplasmic glucocorti coid receptor [19,20]. This ligand receptor complex translocates to the
nucleus where it binds glucocorticoid response elements to affect transcription of target genes [19,20].
As our body s central glucocorticoid, cortisol has many actions. These include gluconeogenesis,
lipolysis, modulating the immune system, increase of blood pressure and insulin resistance [19,20].
Cortisol is metabolized by 11 beta hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase type 2 to its inactive form, cortisone

Coates felt that the American society viewed black lives as worthless, no matter what your
background was. He saw the officer as a direct representation of America s beliefs. Coates makes it
clear that this was nothing new. The history of the destruction of the black body was rooted not just in
slavery, but in the battles of the Civil War, the Jim Crow era, police brutality, racial profiling, and the
creation and promotion of the quote on quote Dream to him. He presents the idea of being successful
as a black person, specifically a black male, in America as having to be twice as good than your white
counterparts. He paints the picture of history repeating himself because he finds it frustrating that even
though his son grew up differently than he did, he still has to fight the same fight that he himself did
as a boy his son s age. He feels as if black people want to win, they must win in their communities and
find joy in it because it is all that they have. Coates feels that even though the struggle is hard, the
struggle provides meaning to life because it gives black people something to look back on, after they

The Narrator Of A Rose For Emily
The narrator of A Rose for Emily serves as the town s aggregate voice. Faultfinders have faced off
regarding whether it is a man or lady; a previous significant other of Emily Grierson s; the kid who
recollects seeing Mr. Grierson in the entryway, holding the whip; or the town tattle, initiating the push
to separate the entryway toward the end. It is conceivable that the storyteller is Emily s previous
hireling, Tobe he would have known her personally, maybe including her mystery. A couple of parts of
the story bolster this hypothesis, for example, the way that the storyteller regularly alludes to Emily as
Miss Emily and gives stand out illustrative insight about the Colonel Sartoris, the leader: the way that
he implemented a law requiring that dark ladies wear cook s garments in broad daylight. Regardless,
the storyteller holes up behind the aggregate pronoun we. By utilizing we, the storyteller can quality
what may be his or her own contemplations and assessments to the greater part of the townspeople,
transforming private thoughts into familiar ways of thinking. The storyteller extends the secret of his
identity and the amount he knows toward the end of the story, when the townspeople find Homer s
body. The storyteller admits As of now we knew that an upstairs room had been fixed up. Be that as it
may, we never discover how the storyteller thinks about the room. More imperative, now, without

Physical Injuries Of A Prophylactic Ankle Brace
One of the most common injuries that is relatively seen in all sports, especially in basketball and
volleyball, is an acute ankle injury that accounts for about 10 to 25 percent of all injuries. Of all these
injuries that occur, almost ¾ of them are related to the lateral structures in our ankle. The most
common and minor form of these injuries is a lateral ankle sprain, which is caused by an inversion
stress to the joint of the ankle. When someone happens to sprain their ankle, the usual preventive
measures by athletic trainers and sports doctors are taken into action such as ankle taping, using of an
ankle brace, strengthening of the ankle, and therapy. Of all these, a prophylactic ankle brace is often
chosen to help reduce the chance of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One of the factors known to cause these abnormal movements in the joints of the lower extremity is
the use of a prophylactic ankle brace. One doctor was able to discover that using an ankle brace during
athletic performance did not increase the risk of injury. Our research showed that knee biomechanics
known to be risk factors for ACL injury did not appear to be negatively impacted by wearing a lace up
ankle brace. (Aerni, Giselle, 2012). If athletes wear prophylactic ankle braces during athletic
activities, then they are more likely to be subjected to knee injuries. The study will analyze the effect
that prophylactic ankle braces cause to the joints of the knee and determining if it increases the stress
placed on them. The primary function of a prophylactic ankle that is being used is to put a restriction
on the inversion range of motion it usually has, since it is where most injuries occur in an ankle sprain.
What people don t know is that it also decreases your overall performance, total range of motion, and
other kinematics as well. When a player is jumping and landing, the use of an ankle brace significantly
reduces the amount of internal and external rotation you have in your ankle. So, when the rotation of
the subtalar joint in the transverse plane is reduced, your leg and foot aren t able to

incorporates the use of time and how it runs quickly and she asks readers through multiple questions,
if they could go back in time and take back previous decisions they made when they were younger,
would they? She employs the use of multiple questions to integrate the reader into the poem and aid
them in thinking about the questions she asks. She asks questions such as, To be wanted back badly

Lines that exemplify her idolizing of the musician include lines two and three, they state Not God,
exactly. More like/Some thin hipped glittering Bowie being a Starman (Smith 2 3). Comparing Bowie
to a celestial being of some sorts implies how much he means to her and his emphasis on her life. A
couple lines down she even alludes to him having immortality Bowie will never die. Nothing will
come for him in his sleep/Or charging through his veins. And he ll never grow old, (Smith 16 17).
Again, Smith implies that Bowie is immortal and he cannot die. She could also be alluding to how his
music and his films will forever live on even after he dies. (She wrote this poem in 2011 5 years
before he died.) Smith also incorporates lyrics from Bowie s songs into her poem. These lyrics for
readers that have not listened to Bowie s music would be useless and hard to find, but for those that
have listened to his music they shine bright and are easily followed and bring those songs to the
forefront of the reader s mind. Songs such as Sound and Vision , Starman , and Life on Mars are all

Pros And Cons Of Raising The Driving Age
For most kids turning sixteen is what they look forward to for years. After countless hours of driver s
education, and driving around with their guardian, they can finely gain some freedom. Receiving a
license gives one independence, responsibility, and more opportunities. Therefore; raising the driving
age is unfair and ineffective.
Raising the legal driving age lowers job opportunity. There are hundreds of job opportunities for
teenagers ( Jobs for Teens ). However, most of them require a form of transportation to get there.
Many kids live in a home in which both parents work; this limits transportation. If one is fortunate
enough to find a ride to work there still can be a problem. Many jobs that hire teens require their
employees to drive. For example, restaurants who deliver. (Example) Many people believe driving is
an adult responsibility. However, we live in a world where teens are forced to grow up, get a job, and
take responsibility ( Editorial: Teens and their wheels ). Raising the driving age will only make that
more difficult, but make teenagers even more dependent. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

that driver. Some people say The most dangerous time for teenage drivers, is the first few months after
they are licensed ( Editoral: Teens and their wheels ). However, experience matters. If the driving age

Circe Of Aeaea Research Paper
The enchanting and comely sorceress Circe lived on the island of Aeaea. She welcomed Odysseus
sailors to her feast, but when they became greedy and devoured everything, she turned them into pigs.
They were treated like swine, placed in a pig pen and given fodder to eat. When Odysseus came to
rescue his men, she tried to turn him also into a pig, but he would not succumb to her dark magic as he
had been given a plant by Hermes to protect himself. Circe later went on to stay with Odysseus for
several years, until he and his men pleaded with her to return home. While he was leaving, Circe told
Odysseus only to descend to the Land of the Dead, and pay a visit to the blind prophet, Teiresias. I,
Circe of Aeaea, have often been portrayed as a cruel, monster who fed upon the misery of others. They

Hip Hop Significance
The Significance of Hip Hop: Speak Out
In the world today rap and hip hop is beneficial to society (Robinson, 2008). Throughout the past few
years artist use their music to express their views on life, opinions, and feelings. Some artist has lyrics
that a lot of people can relate to, some may or may not know what they are talking about because
either they have done the same things or is having the same issue (Akil, 2010). The world has freedom
of speech according to the first amendment, and that is all the artist are doing.
There are many people amongst us today saying rap and hip hop music should not be allowed because
it gives off a negative feedback to our youth (Leach, 2008). Hip hop has grown all over the world
today on young and old; hip hop has reached its highest point now to this day, then ever before. There
is always question on why does hip hop grow or is hip hop growing because of violence. The answer
to that is no, maybe sometimes in songs the artist provokes violence, but never one time have the artist
or song physically forced anyone to do the violence that is being proclaimed in the song (Ibid).

Stalin vs. Trotsky Essay
Stalin vs. Trotsky
I. Dzhugashvili and Bronstein
Joseph Stalin, born Dzhugashvili, and Leon Trotsky, born Bronstein, were the same age, and both had
been from early youth members of the Russian Social Democratic party. As dedicated Communists,
they had common basic outlook: they were philosophical materialists, committed to the unity of
theory and practice and bent upon spreading Communism throughout the whole world. While Lenin
was alive (at any rate until 1922) both men had a secure place in his favor and therefore in the party as
a whole. Since 1917, at least, Trotsky had supported Lenin on the main issues and seemed to have
more of his candor and flexibility than Stalin. However, as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Young Joseph joined a Marxist society known as Mesame Dasi while a student at the seminary, but it
is not clear whether this had anything to do with his expulsion in 1899. During the next two years his
Marxism crystallized, and his first Marxist essays appeared in a Georgian newspaper in 1901. At that
time he was already an enthusiastic defender of Lenin and the other orthodox Marxist exiles who
published the newspaper Iskra. His literary style was not then distinguished; in fact, it never got much
better.
Stalin was active in the revolutionary movement in Tiflis, Batum, and elsewhere, not as Dzhugashvili,
nor yet Stalin, but as Koba. This meant something like courageous in Turkish, and it was also the
name of a labeled Georgian freebooter. It is uncertain which the nickname first signified. Later he was
called, indeed, practically dubbed himself, the Lenin of the Cauccasus. However, he was not
necessarily the most outstanding leader of the Caucasian Social Democrats, nor even of the Georgian
Bolsheviks after the party split in 1903. The great majority of the Marxists in Georgia became and
stayed Menshevik. Among the Bolsheviks Stalin was prominent, but that did not mean a great deal.
Very soon after the news of the London Congress of 1903 reached the Caucasus, he took a firmly pro
Bolshevik stand, and he continued to

Napoleon Bonaparte’s Invasion of Russia Essay
Napoleon s Invasion of Russia
Napoleon Bonaparte s invasion of Russia was a major factor in his downfall. In 1812, Napoleon,
whose alliance with Alexander I had disintegrated, launched an invasion into Russia that ended in a
disastrous retreat from Moscow. Thereafter, all of Europe, including his own allies, Austria and
Prussia, united against him. Although he continued to fight, the odds he faced were impossible. In
April 1814, Napoleon s own marshals refused to continue the struggle and stepped down from their
positions. During the actual Russian campaign, there were many key factors that greatly impacted his
downfall.
The largest army ever assembled for one single invasion was reduced to a mere fraction of its original
size. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The artillery and small arms were years behind that of France. The Russian army was a conscription
army, meaning that local farmers had to furnish a certain number of surfs for military service, as
opposed to a professional, trained army where the government supplies the soldiers with all of their
needs. An amazing half million soldiers had enlisted in Napoleon s Grand Armée (Saglamer,
Beginning of the March). This was the largest army gathered for one single invasion. Russia s army
was out numbered 3:1 with only one hundred seventy thousand soldiers. Not only was the Russian
army not well trained, they were also ill equipped. Napoleon recognized that it would be difficult and
extremely slow for Russia to mobilize her army due to her enormous size and weak infrastructure. If
Napoleon invaded now, he knew that he could be well into the Russian territory before meeting any
major opposition. On June 24, 1812, Napoleon began his fatal Russian campaign. The Grand Armée,
led by Napoleon, crossed the Nieman River, into Russia. On the journey to Moscow, Napoleon met
virtually no major opposition. The first stop in the campaign was Kovono. Early into the campaign,
the Grand Armée was affected by a colic epidemic that claimed the life of nine thousand horses and
thousands of soldiers (Web, Russian Embassy). This slowed the pace of the army. Harsh weather
conditions caused the dry roads to turn to mud, making it extremely difficult to maneuver the

How Did Celia Barton Influence The American Red Cross
The surest test of discipline is it s absence. Clara Barton said this meaning that you only know your

Clara came in contact with many people when she was a nurse so she must have met people who

Sexual Rhetors In Response To The Tweeden Scandal
In 2006, Leeann Tweeden was a performer alongside Al Franken on a U.S.O tour abroad. During
transportation from one location to another, Ms. Tweeden fell asleep, Mr. Franken took advantage of
her sleeping state and took a picture with his hands placed over her breasts. She was not made aware
of the pictures existence until she was back in America for quite some time. According to Tweeden,
Franken also forced himself on her while they were rehearsing. Tweeden came forward after
discussing her experience with Democrat Representative Jackie Speier, a leading voice in ending
sexual harassment on Capitol Hill. Sexual misconduct among political leaders in our nation has long
been a part of work life on Capitol Hill (Fandos), especially in light of the prior conduct of our

rhetoric used by Al Franken and respective media groups in response to the Tweeden Scandal, it can
clearly be observed that the differing motivations of the rhetors drastically shape the rhetoric produced
even though the exigence and audiences are the same.
Firstly, for rhetoric to be established, there must be something to which rhetors respond. The event
must be significant and present (for both the rhetor and audience), so that the response envisioned by
the rhetor can occur. The sexual misconduct of Al Franken is both significant and present because it

Effects Of The Enlightenment
Due to the rapid pace at which the world changes, it may be surprising to learn that Enlightenment
ideas that originated centuries ago are still present in modern society. Despite their age, Enlightenment
ideas regarding how the government should function are still in use in various places, such as the
United States government. The past effects of these ideas are also still visible in the present, as their
appearance supported and helped trigger revolutions in places such as France and the American
colonies. At the time of their conception, these ideas proposed a different kind of government than
existed in most any country, and were considered by some to be too liberal, while others advocated in
favor of them due to the various ways they ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Up to this point in time, it was not uncommon for monarchs and rulers to infringe upon these rights in
favor of their own satisfaction; monarchs forced taxes upon their subjects in order to fund their own
projects and lifestyles, and some were known to oppress their people in an attempt to maintain power
for an indefinite amount of time. Under this Enlightenment idea, the government was tasked with
preventing these occurrences from taking place, therefore protecting these basic rights and, by
extension, the people s quality of life.
One Enlightenment idea that is visible in more countries than most actually came about due to a
misunderstanding: Baron de Montesquieu incorrectly assessed the responsibilities of the various
components of the British government, thus leading him to the conclusion that the powers of the
government should be separated between multiple branches, though Montesquieu proposed three. In
doing so, the government, as well as rulers and monarchs, would be unable to abuse their power due to
the system of checks and balances that would be created by the separation, consequently solving
problems various people had with their rulers abuses of power. This is arguably one of the more
popular Enlightenment ideas, as differing versions of it have been implemented in countries across

The Theory Of Moral Behavior
The statement claims that no question can ever be neutral. This means that all questions are leading
questions, that we always have a notion of the knowledge we find. The definition of neutral in the
English dictionary is: not supporting either side in a conflict, disagreement: impartial 1. It means being
detached and impersonal to situations, questions or judgements. Mathematics, as an area of knowledge
is said to be a subject that already exists in the natural world, only that we discover its marvellous

Very often, people commit a crime because they think that the punishment is not harsh enough.
Therefore, to show the determination to protect consumer privacy, the government should impose
harsher punishment that is deterrent enough. Besides, it is essential to allocate more resource to
establish some departments which can help protect people s privacy in e business. In addition to
punishment ad establish departments, the government should educate young people about importance
of respecting people s privacy. The education should be done everywhere, for example, in school, in
public areas, and on television, so that it can uproot young people s wrong values.
Companies also ought to take effective measures to protect consumer privacy. One practical proposal
would be that organizations should establish internal controls and physical safeguard for information
security. On the one hand, company builds up a security system to control their internal enterprise.
Data control and management is a critical issue for corporations. The service provider should be able

ID number, and email that avoid information falling into the wrong hands. On the other hand, the e
business providers should keep their marketing ethics and social responsibility during the business

Round Trip Copper Reactions Lab
The purpose of this lab was to evaluate our skills of decanting a supernatant liquid without losing the
solid and successful completion of a series of reactions. This was done through five chemical reactions
involving copper. In this lab, elemental copper was put through five different chemical reactions in
order to convert it into different compounds. By the end of the fifth reaction, the copper was back to
its elemental state. In the first reaction, 0.95 g of pure copper was reacted with 4.0 mL of concentrated
nitric acid under the fume hood. The solution was swirled until all of the copper had dissolved. The
balanced equation for this reaction is as follows:

The black precipitate was allowed to settle and then the supernatant, the clear liquid that lies above a
precipitate, was decanted, or poured carefully off. Then, 200 mL of hot distilled water was added and
the precipitate was allowed to settle to repeat the decanting process again. In the fourth reaction, 15
mL of 6.0 M sulfuric acid was added to the copper (II) oxide while stirring. The balanced equation for
this reaction is as follows:
CuO (s) + H2SO4 (aq) à CuSO4 (aq) + H2O (l) + SO2 (g)
When the sulfuric acid was added to copper (II) oxide, the solution turned blue. This was due to the
formation of aqueous copper (II) sulfate, which produced the copper ions to change the color of the
solution. In the fifth reaction, 2.29 g of zinc was added to the copper (II) sulfate solution under the
fume hood. The balanced equation for this reaction is written as followed:
Zn (s) + CuSO4 (aq) à ZnSO4 (aq) + Cu (s)
When the zinc was added to the copper (II) sulfate solution, the solution started to bubble. As the
solution was stirred, it turned a cloudy blue. Small flecks of a brown solid were visible. As the
solution became colorless, the brown solid settled to the bottom of the beaker. The solid formed was
copper in its elemental state. The color faded from the solution as the copper ions slowly formed into
solid copper. The copper was poured into a funnel with filter paper and washed three times with 25

The Modernist Movement And The International Style Movement
Throughout the Villa Dall ava, 1991, Rem Koolhaas ideologies have been deconstructed,
reconstructed and reproduced such as it complies with Le Corbusier s five ideas of modernism, where
it employs the use of pilotes , roof terrace, the open floor plan, the free façade and the horizontal
window to his design. These major elements are key to the modernist movement and the international
style movement. Rem Koolhaas has made conflict with these key ideas such as the slanted columns as
Le Corbusier s idea was to use simple forms discussed by the early modernist. In a sense it holds these
elements of deconstruction such an alien form within it design.
Le Corbusier s Villa Savoye, 1929, has very similar links to the Villa Dall ava as Rem Koolhaas and
his client wanted the Villa Dall ava to be a modern version of the Villa Savoye. These links are
obvious as they are the five points of architecture which Le Corbusier had set as his architectural
principles. They consist of pilotis, free designing of the ground plan, free design of the façade, the
horizontal windows and a roof garden. One main connection that sticks out is the pilotis as Le
Courbusier had used it as geometric lines around the Villa Savoye, Rem Koolhaas had used pilotis
with his own alien twist on them swaying them off center, putting them where ever need be.
Koolhaas s own architecture, it need hardly be said, does nothing of the kind. And yet Koolhaas s
modernism, brilliantly inventive, nonetheless does not

Thus, the archetype of Naram Sîm shows to be the epitome of the perfect male for which other men
strive to embody.
This concept is conveniently backed by the elders of Naram Sîm, who were successful in claiming that
these attributes came in the form of being divine. This claim to divinity literally underpinned their
ascension to power and the relegation of everyone else; rulers were to be revered for their beauty and
power because it was truly their god given right. Alas, Winter argues that the sexual allure of the ruler
s body firmly functions was a mechanism to continue aggrandizing their own status and dominance.
Winter succesfully notes that this dominance and power was also preserved by what we would call
propaganda. In regards to another period of art, Winter suggests that aesthetic pleasure can serve as
the vehicle by which a highly seductive ideal vision is articulated for the citizen viewer . In regards to
the stela, the viewer sees an image of an audacious, virtuous hero, the signifier which may have
instilled and preserved the distorted perception of hierarchy. Though the idea of being an alpha male is
nothing new at this point in history, it does become physically stamped into history, used to gain
loyalty between the ruler and the ruled.

Plato s Views On The Virtue Of The Virtues Essay
As far as I am concerned, the result is that I know nothing, for when I don t know what justice is, I ll
hardly know whether it is a kind of virtue or not, or whether a person who has it is happy or unhappy
(Republic 354c)
Plato presents Socrates as believing in the unity of the virtues, skeptical of those who, like Meno, wish
to treat the virtues as distinct objects of inquiry in dialogues such as Laches, Protagoras, Meno, the
Republic, and Euthyphro. These dialogues provide good reason to deny that Plato s Socrates believed
in the numerical identity of the virtues. I shall argue that in the various virtues is one essence (or virtue
), as revealed in a conceptual search for definitional clarity and a metaphysical appeal to Form that
encompasses innumerous virtues.
I.
For Socrates, an adequate definition will reveal the common quality that belongs to both all and only;
and necessarily and sufficiently, instances of the virtue that is being defined. In Euthyphro, Socrates
addresses these definitional issues by criticizing the paradox presented in the dialogue as follows: And
so Euthyphro, when you re asked what the pious is, it looks as though you don t want to reveal its
being to me, but rather to tell me one of its affections that this happens to the pious, that its loved by
all the gods (Euthyphro 11a). The term being here I will interpret as essence, the more commonly
utilized semantic in translations of Plato (Ross 2006). An appropriate

Post-impressionism and Artists
Impressionism was a movement that came about in the late 19th century, most specifically its roots
can be traced back the 1874 when a group called the Anonymous Society of Painters, Sculptors,
Printmakers, etc. organized an exhibition in Paris. (Samu, 2004). The group led several exhibitions
through the 1880 s which brought them into the spot light despite criticism from the conventional art
community in France. The movement received its name from one of the movements most now most
recognized artists Claude Monet and his piece Impression, Sunrise. It is said that a critic accused the
painting of being a sketch or impression . (Samu, 2004) Paintings of this period tended to be outdoor
scenes and panoramas. My Grandfather, Lawrence ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These artists felt that impressionism was missing many key elements including emotional, structural,
symbolic and spiritual representation. (Misialowski, 2006) Artists of this time frame worked, in most
cases, independently and today are most often referred to as Post Impressionists. The style was
defined by vibrant colors, thick paint application, real life subject matter, geometric shapes, and
distortion of objects figures for expressive emotional effect. Some of the key artists of this time
included: Vincent van Gogh, Paul Cézanne, Paul Gauguin, Georges Seurat. Aristide Maillol and
Edouard Vuillard.
One of my favorite pieces of this time comes of course from van Gogh. The piece is titled
Straßenarbeiter which means Road Workers. The imagery of this piece is rough and course with
distorted views and sharp lines. The shapes of the trees almost draw you away from the what the piece
is actually titled after, the road workers who are shown off in the distance and then again on the left
edge of the painting. The colors give the image a dark look like it is depicting a late fall day with the
workers frantically trying to complete the task before the onset of winter.
Again, like the impressionism movement, there was not really a prime reason for this movement other
than the artists wants to more freely express themselves through their work. The social climate of the
times were changing allowing for

Orlando W. Wilson and Roy C. McLaren wrote that Almost everything that a police officer does must
be reduced to writing . As a police officer you re largely evaluated based on your written report skills.
As an officer of the law you must be able to do your job well, and within the extent of the law (Hess

present it to those who were not there. 20 percent of an officer s time is spent writing reports (Hess

ability of the investigator to written a report that will withstand the scrutiny of judges, prosecutors,

protocols and policies of the department. However, whether your report is being read by your
supervisor; lawyers, social workers, judges, citizens, or the media, it should be easily comprehendible
across the board. Most of the time, those reading your report will not have been present at the scene. It

Remote Control or Mind Control
Imagine this, it s the year 2020 and you re long gone from UC s campus. You ve gotten the job you ve
always wanted and finally have a family of your own. You come home from working a 15 hour shift
and your three year old toddler starts throwing a tantrum about being bored but, your spouse is gone
for the time being and only you can entertain the child. What do you do? Do you swallow your pride
and play games, read, and or color with him or do you simply turn on the television and let
SpongeBob take it away? This is a big battle that exists in today s society. Most people tend to have an
opinion that media, specifically television and video games, are having long term effects on our
children concerning their behavior and morals. Others, although typically outnumbered, think that the
media does not heavily impact children and most children, if raised with proper care, will know the
difference between right and wrong even with media present in their life. In one text, an informative,
factual research style paper, the University of Michigan Health System gives insight as to why
television may be more harmful than helpful to our youth using raw data from clinical researches. For
my second text I have chosen a freehanded, opinion based article, written by a parent who sees
nothing wrong with letting his children watch television. These two articles have different insight on
the same subject considering it s discourse community, audience, and style of writing. I ll begin with

The Theory Of Knowledge And Perceptions
In his first mediation Descartes comes to the conclusion that there is not one of his former beliefs
about which a doubt may not properly be raised. I will assess his reasons for thinking this to be so. I
will look at the variety of reasons he gives in relation to: his senses, the dreaming argument, what is
real and what isn t, God, his opinions and his evil demon argument. Through assessing these
epistemological (theory of knowledge) arguments I will conclude that in order to obtain new
perceptions or ideas about knowledge, one must question everything one knows, as all knowledge and
perceptions are created ultimately through the senses and mind.
Some years ago I was struck by the large number of falsehoods that I had accepted as true in my
childhood, and by the highly doubtful nature of the whole edifice that I had subsequently based on
them. (Descartes;2013:201)
Descartes claims that substantial quantities of his assumptions are based on childhood beliefs that
have shaped his views in adulthood. He is challenging his own knowledge. This is known as
scepticism, where the idea of knowledge is questioned when a definite claim is made.
(White:1989:92). In order to challenge these views he must deconstruct all of his former beliefs, by
taking them apart from the most basic premise on which they were formed. As Descartes states Once
the foundations of a building are undermined, anything built on them collapses of its own accord, so I
will go straight for the basic

There was a significant increase in the number of visitors in Disney parks in both Japan and Hong
Kong. There was an 800,000 increase of visitors for Tokyo Disney while and 600,000 increase for
Hong Kong Disneyland. This increase for Hong Kong Disneyland was mainly due to the rising
number of tourists from Mainland China. New marketing strategies and additional attractions to the
park were also done to increase visitors. Currently, while China s economy is prospering, Disney s
plan to construct a new park in Shanghai is moving very quickly. The Disney Shanghai is set to open

Analysis Of Les Six
Les Sis
The 1920 s were an extraordinary time in Paris. The war had ended. Musicians, artist, writers, poets,
film makers and choreographers were friends and influenced one another. There was a sense of
optimism and excitement. Composers were finding inspiration in popular sources, circus music and
jazz which was being heard for the first time. Les Six were a group of six young French musicians
during this time; Arthur Honegger, Darius Mihaud, Francis Poulenc, Georges Auric, Louis Durey and
Germaine Tailleferre, the group s only woman. They were brought together by their adverse reactions
to the impressionism of French composers such as Debussy and Ravel. The music critic Henri Collet
coined the group s name in 1920. Inspired by the more abstract and unadorned compositions of Erik
Sate and the writings of Jean Cocteau they sought to write in a style that was more simple and
sophisticated. Their friendship brought them together, however they maintained their own distinctive
styles.
Francis Poulenc
The finest choral composer of Les Six his works are known for their melodic invention and originality.
Because Poulenc s family intended for him to have a career in the family business he was largely self
taught. His music often juxtaposes humor and irony with the sentimental and melancholy. After the
death of a close friend in the 1930s he rediscovered Catholicism and composed many religious works.
He was particularly fond of woodwinds and planned to write a set of sonatas

Infamy V. Perry s Change In Japan
Japan, as known today, is a world powerhouse in technology and innovation. It currently ranks third in
GDP, bringing in over $4.9 trillion dollars per year. However, this has not always been the case. Japan
is well known for its period of Sakoku, a Japanese word literally meaning closed country. From 1600
1850s, that is indeed what Japan was; Japanese citizens were not allowed to leave the country and no
foreigners were allowed to enter. The country was completely isolated from the rest of the world, even
in regards to trade. This was changed in 1854 by Commander Matthew Perry and his Navy squadron.
With the Kanagawa Treaty, Perry ended Japan s period of isolationism and pushed them into their
future as a world power.

However, the Japanese would not budge. As several years passed the Japanese decided it would be
better to willingly open up trade with the Western world than to be forced. In 1858, the United States
and Japan signed their first commercial treaty, sometimes referred to as the Harris Treaty. European
countries soon followed after and Japan made its first visit to the United States to discuss the treaty in
1860. Although they were reluctant to begin trading with the Western world, once it started Japan
became fully invested into modernization and technological reform. The modernization lead to the
weakening of the shogun, which restored the power to an emperor and thus began the Meiji

Monuments And Monuments Dbq
From Trajan s Column, completed in 113 AD, to the statue of Christopher Columbus in Easton,
Pennsylvania, monuments and memorials have been a significant element of celebration and honor
throughout history (Source B). Though monuments are typically meant as a symbol of honor, recent
controversy over statues dedicated to Confederate leaders and generals has sparked the debate over
how to choose subjects to memorialize, and the actual development of these memorials. When
considering what or who to honor, one must also consider the subjects impact on history, ensuring that
it is positive. In creating memorials and monuments, groups and agencies should examine the

Unknown Paper
The objective of these unknown experiments was to take a mixed culture, which contains two
unknown species, and identify those species through a series of tests. The group was informed that
one species of bacteria would be a gram negative bacillus and the other would be a gram positive
coccus. The tests to be conducted ranged from streak plate isolation to biochemical tests. Each test to
be conducted was discussed and agreed upon by all group members. The results of each test were
analyzed by the group and led to selection of the next test that would further narrow the possible
identity of the unknown species. On September 16, 2010, our group was given a mixed culture in
which we were to identify two organisms within the mixture, ... Show more content on

From last week s test, we achieved pure cultural characteristics from the two slants we made. The
growth we saw on the agar slant that contained the yellow specimen was a soft, smooth, yellow
growth. The growth we saw on the beige specimen was a thin, even, beige growth. Both cultural
characteristics were achieved in the appropriate categories. The categories we were looking for
contained abundance of growth, pigmentation, optical characteristics, and consistency. Today we will
be preparing two bacterial smears from each specimen and Gram staining them. The reason we are
conducting this test is to differentiate between two principle groups, gram positive and gram negative
and to further know if a pure culture from both organisms was achieved. This is important for
classification and differentiation of microorganisms. The Gram stain reaction will help us tell the
difference of the chemical composition of bacterial cell walls. The Gram stain procedure uses four
different reagents such as crystal violet, gram s iodine, ethyl alcohol, and safranin. Before the Gram
stain is performed we must make two bacterial smears of the two specimens. We placed one loop of
distilled water on a clean slide aseptically. He transferred the specimen from the agar slant that
contained the yellow growth and placed it on the slide with the water and gently mixed it together in a
circular motion approximately the size of a nickel. He let the smear air dry for one minute and gently

Golgi Research Paper
The nucleus contains chromosomes in which the DNA encodes proteins. The mRNA molecules
transcribed from the DNA leave through the nuclear pores in the nuclear envelope to attach to free
ribosomes or ribosomes on the rough Endoplasmic Reticulum (rER). mRNA molecules try to bind to
ribosomes as they contain ribosomal RNA (rRNA) transcribed from DNA in the nucleolus. The
attachment of mRNA allows protein synthesis to occur at the ribosome, producing proteins in their
primary structure. These polypeptide chains then travel through the rER where they are packaged and
pinched off into little vesicles and carried to the Golgi complex. They are then chemically modified
and folded into newly synthesised proteins which can then leave the cell (exocytosis) through
secretory vesicles produced at the Golgi complex.

Phospholipids
Phospholipids form the basis of the plasma membrane structure. As a main component of the
membrane they form bilayers with two layers of phospholipid molecules facing inwards, opposite one
another. They are arranged in this manner as the phosphate heads are hydrophilic meaning they are
attracted to water. They can therefore interact with water in the cytoplasm and with water surrounding
the cell. The hydrophobic tails of the two phospholipid layers therefore point inwards towards each
other as they repel water. The lipid component of the bilayer allows lipid soluble molecules across the
membrane.
Proteins
Proteins are scattered throughout the bilayer and are imbedded in two ways.
Intrinsic proteins are generally classified as the larger proteins within the bilayer and are extended
across both layers of the membrane. Some of these are carrier proteins transporting water soluble
substances across and others are channels which allow the transport of

  • 3. How To Write A Picnic At Hanging Rock Essay PICNIC AT HANGING ROCK PRACTICE ESSAY The novel Picnic at Hanging Rock written by Joan Lindsay in 1967 is set in Australia and tells the story of a class of female students who attend an exclusive private girls boarding school called Appleyard College. In 1900, most of the students and staff go on an excursion to the isolated Hanging Rock where three girls and a teacher inexplicably vanish after climbing the rock on a Valentine s Day picnic. The text explores the outlying effects the disappearances have on the school and local community as the authorities conduct an exhaustive search for the missing four. Picnic at Hanging Rock has been adapted across numerous mediums and is most renowned in the 1975 film adaptation by director Peter Weir. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Peter Weir s film adaptation of the novel explores many themes and ideas of the original text; however, through various cinematic techniques, he is able to enhance and bring to life aspects of the novel such as the rock and the foreign Australian landscape, the innocence of the girls and the claustrophobic atmosphere of the college, and finally, the terrible effects of the girl s disappearance on those left behind. Through the incorporation of soundtrack and camera angles, Weir enhances the rock and Australian bush by transforming these two aspects of the novel into an even darker and sinister presence which looms over the individuals in the film. Within Lindsay s novel, the rock is mentioned on several occasions and is referred to have soaring peaks and a powerful presence which gives readers the idea that it is a potentially dangerous location. However, in the film, the rock is portrayed like a character in its own right and is purposely made to be more frightening. The haunting pan pipes are played in the background when the camera pans on the rock to depict the implacable monoliths as a menacing creature which lures the girls. Pan was the god who seduced and kidnapped young nymphs and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Danger and NASCAR Essay Danger and NASCAR I had never even heard of Dale Earnhardt until he crashed into eternity, but now here I am writing a column about him (King, 64). This reaction, recorded by Florence King in National Review, seems to be a common one since Earnhardt s death in the Daytona 500. Dale Earnhardt was a driver in the Winston Cup circuit for the National Association of Stock Car Auto Racing (NASCAR). Despite the fact that he is arguably the most popular NASCAR driver, many people did not know who he was until he died. It is sad to realize that sometimes it takes death to become recognized. However, Dale is not the only NASCAR driver who is becoming known from his death. In a span of nine months, Tony Roper, Adam Petty, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Bill France was elected president, and his family is still involved today. Junior Johnson, a NASCAR hero, is a true example of where the sport came from. He was raised in a moonshine family. Johnson s father taught him many values such as no stealing or lying. Although it seemed contradictory that they were breaking the law everyday with their business, apparently it was all they could do to survive. When a school friend named Millard Ashley was asked about Junior s driving, he replied, Junior? Hell, he d run wide open all the time....Yeah, he was pretty bad about that. He was always blowing a head gasket or somethin (Menzer, 61). Junior had a talent for making his cars faster with better handling than those of the law s. Outrunning law enforcement officers became a means for the drivers to learn the knowledge needed in increasing a car s, or racecar s performance. NASCAR has come a long way since those days in the 1940 s. A 1999 survey of sports sponsors by Street Smith s Sports Business Journal ranked NASCAR No. 1 in licensing, promotional opportunities, retail tie ins, client endorsements and media coverage ahead of the NFL, NBA and Professional Golf Association (Advertising Age, Sc 1). In its beginnings, the word Stock in Stockcar was literal. It meant that the racecar was the car that you drove on the street. • 5. Adversity In Lorraine Hansberry s A Raisin In The Sun People constantly determine that hardships prepare them for an anomalous triumph and that without adversity they will not have the strength to excel. However, in trying to achieve adversity people damage their psychological well being, just like the Tuskegee Airmen who faced racial discrimination for serving their country. Although this may be true, the Roman poet Horace elucidates that Adversity has the effect of eliciting talents which in prosperous circumstances would have lain dormant . This is often exemplified in A Raisin in the Sun and through Cristian Mariano Deppeler. To initiate, if it wasn t for the hardships that adversity exposes people to, then many would not see meaning in their life, and in some cases, end up putting and end to it. For instance, the story of Cristian Mariano Deppeler, a social communicator that is known today for his video on YouTube in which he shocked the world and affirmed that he is not disabled . Gothic authors were known for writing about insanity, but also becoming insane themselves. Poe was one of the authors that were known for becoming insane after writing about it for so long. Gothic period authors use terror and horror throughout novels, as well. Gothic literature was written in the late eighteenth and early nineteenth century. American Gothicism adapted the writing techniques and from European Gothicism. American authors adapted plots from others and made them into their own. The movement began by writing about the terrifying Indians of the frontier (Snodgrass 1). Gothic literature draws on a combination of terror and romanticism as its foundation. Movement authors incorporated more psychological aspects into the novels instead of peaceful aspects. Edgar Allan Poe, Herman Melville and Nathaniel Hawthorne are influential authors of the movement. The authors incorporate the unique qualities of gothic literature in their works. In particular, Gothic period author Charles Brockden Brown incorporates the two characteristics of insanity and an atmosphere of mystery in his novels Wieland and Edgar Huntley. • 9. The Effects Of Hormones On The Body s Central Glucocorticoid Upon activation by an emotional or physical stressor, corticotropic releasing hormone (CRH) is released from the paraventricular cells of the hypothalamus and exerts its effect on the anterior pituitary gland Here, CRH stimulates the synthesis of adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH) and its release into the bloodstream [19,20]. In turn, ACTH acts on receptors of the adrenal cortex to stimulate the synthesis and release of cortisol [19,20]. Also known as the body s stress hormone , cortisol travels through the blood in both protein bound (inactive) and free (active) forms. Cortisol can act to limit its own synthesis via a negative feedback mechanism to the hypothalamus and pituitary gland [19,20]. Upon reaching a target cell, free cortisol diffuses through the cell membrane to bind to the cytoplasmic glucocorti coid receptor [19,20]. This ligand receptor complex translocates to the nucleus where it binds glucocorticoid response elements to affect transcription of target genes [19,20]. As our body s central glucocorticoid, cortisol has many actions. These include gluconeogenesis, lipolysis, modulating the immune system, increase of blood pressure and insulin resistance [19,20]. Cortisol is metabolized by 11 beta hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase type 2 to its inactive form, cortisone [19,20 GOW Stress can be broadly defined as any stimulus that disrupts homeostasis, with the stress response referring to physiological and behavioral reactions to such a stimulus (Selye, 1950). He presents the idea of being successful as a black person, specifically a black male, in America as having to be twice as good than your white counterparts. He paints the picture of history repeating himself because he finds it frustrating that even though his son grew up differently than he did, he still has to fight the same fight that he himself did as a boy his son s age. Faultfinders have faced off regarding whether it is a man or lady; a previous significant other of Emily Grierson s; the kid who recollects seeing Mr. Grierson in the entryway, holding the whip; or the town tattle, initiating the push to separate the entryway toward the end. It is conceivable that the storyteller is Emily s previous hireling, Tobe he would have known her personally, maybe including her mystery. A couple of parts of the story bolster this hypothesis, for example, the way that the storyteller regularly alludes to Emily as Miss Emily and gives stand out illustrative insight about the Colonel Sartoris, the leader: the way that he implemented a law requiring that dark ladies wear cook s garments in broad daylight. • 13. Physical Injuries Of A Prophylactic Ankle Brace One of the most common injuries that is relatively seen in all sports, especially in basketball and volleyball, is an acute ankle injury that accounts for about 10 to 25 percent of all injuries. Of all these injuries that occur, almost ¾ of them are related to the lateral structures in our ankle. The most common and minor form of these injuries is a lateral ankle sprain, which is caused by an inversion stress to the joint of the ankle. When someone happens to sprain their ankle, the usual preventive measures by athletic trainers and sports doctors are taken into action such as ankle taping, using of an ankle brace, strengthening of the ankle, and therapy. Of all these, a prophylactic ankle brace is often chosen to help reduce the chance of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One of the factors known to cause these abnormal movements in the joints of the lower extremity is the use of a prophylactic ankle brace. One doctor was able to discover that using an ankle brace during athletic performance did not increase the risk of injury. Our research showed that knee biomechanics known to be risk factors for ACL injury did not appear to be negatively impacted by wearing a lace up ankle brace. (Aerni, Giselle, 2012). If athletes wear prophylactic ankle braces during athletic activities, then they are more likely to be subjected to knee injuries. The study will analyze the effect that prophylactic ankle braces cause to the joints of the knee and determining if it increases the stress placed on them. The primary function of a prophylactic ankle that is being used is to put a restriction on the inversion range of motion it usually has, since it is where most injuries occur in an ankle sprain. What people don t know is that it also decreases your overall performance, total range of motion, and other kinematics as well. When a player is jumping and landing, the use of an ankle brace significantly reduces the amount of internal and external rotation you have in your ankle. So, when the rotation of the subtalar joint in the transverse plane is reduced, your leg and foot aren t able to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Smith, a renowned poet and author, writes a beautiful and thoughtful poem named Don t You Wonder, Sometimes? as a tribute to the iconic musician and actor David Bowie. Her message incorporates the use of time and how it runs quickly and she asks readers through multiple questions, if they could go back in time and take back previous decisions they made when they were younger, would they? She employs the use of multiple questions to integrate the reader into the poem and aid them in thinking about the questions she asks. She asks questions such as, To be wanted back badly enough? Nothing will come for him in his sleep/Or charging through his veins. And he ll never grow old, (Smith 16 17). Again, Smith implies that Bowie is immortal and he cannot die. She could also be alluding to how his music and his films will forever live on even after he dies. (She wrote this poem in 2011 5 years before he died.) Smith also incorporates lyrics from Bowie s songs into her poem. These lyrics for readers that have not listened to Bowie s music would be useless and hard to find, but for those that have listened to his music they shine bright and are easily followed and bring those songs to the forefront of the reader s mind. After countless hours of driver s education, and driving around with their guardian, they can finely gain some freedom. Receiving a license gives one independence, responsibility, and more opportunities. Therefore; raising the driving age is unfair and ineffective. Raising the legal driving age lowers job opportunity. She welcomed Odysseus sailors to her feast, but when they became greedy and devoured everything, she turned them into pigs. They were treated like swine, placed in a pig pen and given fodder to eat. When Odysseus came to rescue his men, she tried to turn him also into a pig, but he would not succumb to her dark magic as he had been given a plant by Hermes to protect himself. Circe later went on to stay with Odysseus for several years, until he and his men pleaded with her to return home. At that time he was already an enthusiastic defender of Lenin and the other orthodox Marxist exiles who published the newspaper Iskra. • 31. Plato s Views On The Virtue Of The Virtues Essay As far as I am concerned, the result is that I know nothing, for when I don t know what justice is, I ll hardly know whether it is a kind of virtue or not, or whether a person who has it is happy or unhappy (Republic 354c) Plato presents Socrates as believing in the unity of the virtues, skeptical of those who, like Meno, wish to treat the virtues as distinct objects of inquiry in dialogues such as Laches, Protagoras, Meno, the Republic, and Euthyphro. These dialogues provide good reason to deny that Plato s Socrates believed in the numerical identity of the virtues. I shall argue that in the various virtues is one essence (or virtue ), as revealed in a conceptual search for definitional clarity and a metaphysical appeal to Form that encompasses innumerous virtues. I. For Socrates, an adequate definition will reveal the common quality that belongs to both all and only; and necessarily and sufficiently, instances of the virtue that is being defined. In Euthyphro, Socrates addresses these definitional issues by criticizing the paradox presented in the dialogue as follows: And so Euthyphro, when you re asked what the pious is, it looks as though you don t want to reveal its being to me, but rather to tell me one of its affections that this happens to the pious, that its loved by all the gods (Euthyphro 11a). The term being here I will interpret as essence, the more commonly utilized semantic in translations of Plato (Ross 2006). An appropriate ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 32. Post-impressionism and Artists Impressionism was a movement that came about in the late 19th century, most specifically its roots can be traced back the 1874 when a group called the Anonymous Society of Painters, Sculptors, Printmakers, etc. organized an exhibition in Paris. (Samu, 2004). The group led several exhibitions through the 1880 s which brought them into the spot light despite criticism from the conventional art community in France. The movement received its name from one of the movements most now most recognized artists Claude Monet and his piece Impression, Sunrise. It is said that a critic accused the painting of being a sketch or impression . (Samu, 2004) Paintings of this period tended to be outdoor scenes and panoramas. My Grandfather, Lawrence ... (Misialowski, 2006) Artists of this time frame worked, in most cases, independently and today are most often referred to as Post Impressionists. The style was defined by vibrant colors, thick paint application, real life subject matter, geometric shapes, and distortion of objects figures for expressive emotional effect. Some of the key artists of this time included: Vincent van Gogh, Paul Cézanne, Paul Gauguin, Georges Seurat. Aristide Maillol and Edouard Vuillard. One of my favorite pieces of this time comes of course from van Gogh. The piece is titled Straßenarbeiter which means Road Workers. The imagery of this piece is rough and course with distorted views and sharp lines. The shapes of the trees almost draw you away from the what the piece is actually titled after, the road workers who are shown off in the distance and then again on the left edge of the painting. The colors give the image a dark look like it is depicting a late fall day with the workers frantically trying to complete the task before the onset of winter. Again, like the impressionism movement, there was not really a prime reason for this movement other than the artists wants to more freely express themselves through their work. As a police officer you re largely evaluated based on your written report skills. As an officer of the law you must be able to do your job well, and within the extent of the law (Hess Orthmann, 2013). Not only that but the officer must be able to correctly record information and present it to those who were not there. 20 percent of an officer s time is spent writing reports (Hess Orthmann, 2013). It s not just skilled investigating tactics that brings a criminal to justice, it is also the ability of the investigator to written a report that will withstand the scrutiny of judges, prosecutors, defense counsels, and jurors. An officers report has the ability to determine whether or not the guilty goes free. It s the job of the supervisor to decide if the investigating officer followed the correct protocols and policies of the department. However, whether your report is being read by your supervisor; lawyers, social workers, judges, citizens, or the media, it should be easily comprehendible across the board. Most of the time, those reading your report will not have been present at the scene. They can be clinical physicians, teachers, psychologists, managers etc. Contained in this paper are the issues with boundaries and the different ethical examples that must come into display to teach the future social workers ways on conducting dual relationships within a work place. Dual relationships transpire when social workers view a client in more than one relationship, either social, business, professional; which can later be a product to boundary violations and boundary crossings. • 38. The Theory Of Knowledge And Perceptions In his first mediation Descartes comes to the conclusion that there is not one of his former beliefs about which a doubt may not properly be raised. I will assess his reasons for thinking this to be so. I will look at the variety of reasons he gives in relation to: his senses, the dreaming argument, what is real and what isn t, God, his opinions and his evil demon argument. Through assessing these epistemological (theory of knowledge) arguments I will conclude that in order to obtain new perceptions or ideas about knowledge, one must question everything one knows, as all knowledge and perceptions are created ultimately through the senses and mind. Some years ago I was struck by the large number of falsehoods that I had accepted as true in my childhood, and by the highly doubtful nature of the whole edifice that I had subsequently based on them. (Descartes;2013:201) Descartes claims that substantial quantities of his assumptions are based on childhood beliefs that have shaped his views in adulthood. He is challenging his own knowledge. This is known as scepticism, where the idea of knowledge is questioned when a definite claim is made. (White:1989:92). In order to challenge these views he must deconstruct all of his former beliefs, by taking them apart from the most basic premise on which they were formed. Musicians, artist, writers, poets, film makers and choreographers were friends and influenced one another. There was a sense of optimism and excitement. Composers were finding inspiration in popular sources, circus music and jazz which was being heard for the first time. Les Six were a group of six young French musicians during this time; Arthur Honegger, Darius Mihaud, Francis Poulenc, Georges Auric, Louis Durey and Germaine Tailleferre, the group s only woman. They were brought together by their adverse reactions to the impressionism of French composers such as Debussy and Ravel. The music critic Henri Collet coined the group s name in 1920. Inspired by the more abstract and unadorned compositions of Erik Sate and the writings of Jean Cocteau they sought to write in a style that was more simple and sophisticated. Their friendship brought them together, however they maintained their own distinctive styles. Francis Poulenc The finest choral composer of Les Six his works are known for their melodic invention and originality. Because Poulenc s family intended for him to have a career in the family business he was largely self taught. His music often juxtaposes humor and irony with the sentimental and melancholy. The categories we were looking for contained abundance of growth, pigmentation, optical characteristics, and consistency. Today we will be preparing two bacterial smears from each specimen and Gram staining them. The reason we are conducting this test is to differentiate between two principle groups, gram positive and gram negative and to further know if a pure culture from both organisms was achieved. The mRNA molecules transcribed from the DNA leave through the nuclear pores in the nuclear envelope to attach to free ribosomes or ribosomes on the rough Endoplasmic Reticulum (rER). mRNA molecules try to bind to ribosomes as they contain ribosomal RNA (rRNA) transcribed from DNA in the nucleolus. The attachment of mRNA allows protein synthesis to occur at the ribosome, producing proteins in their primary structure. These polypeptide chains then travel through the rER where they are packaged and pinched off into little vesicles and carried to the Golgi complex. They are then chemically modified and folded into newly synthesised proteins which can then leave the cell (exocytosis) through secretory vesicles produced at the Golgi complex. 1. Nucleus 2.
