Nipah Virus Research Paper
For the Nipah Virus, fruit bats of the Pteropus genus have been identified as the natural reservoir. The
virus has been isolated in many bodily locations, such as the brain and spinal fluid, and from
environmental prototypes, like bat urine and partially eaten fruit, such as found in cases of Malaysia.
Antibodies of the Nipah virus have been found in the sera of fruit bats, which have been collected in
India, Indonesia, and many others such as Madagascar and Ghana. The presence of these antibodies
indicate that goats, horses, and some cats and dogs have been reported as infected, with a history of
exposure to infected pigs in Malaysia. This wide range of locations where NiV has been discovered
represents its wide geographic distribution. While ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Recent data has shown that since 1998, NiV has infected nearly 477 people, while killing almost 252.
These reported outbreaks have a strong seasonal pattern and a limited geographical range , with a
fatality rate ranging from 40 70%...although it has been as high as 100% in some outbreaks (World
Health, p.3). As NiV was first recognized in an outbreak of 276 cases in Malaysia and Singapore from
September 1998 to May 1999, most of the patients documented were noted to have had some contact
with infected pigs. Autopsy findings showed diffused vasculitis within the central nervous system,
including immunostaining of endothelial cells with anti Nipah virus hyper immune serum. Of the
patients primarily with encephalitis; 39% died (Hughes Wilson, 2009, p.1). NiV was initially isolated
from urine specimens collected from P. hypomelanus roost, as well as fruit partially eaten by bats in
Malaysia. Experimental injections of Pteropus bats were conducted in order to identify the existence
of the NiV virus within the mammals; however, it does not cause illness in the bats. While over fifty

The Ethics Of Human Cloning
Human cloning is a topic surrounded in controversy. There is yet to be an instance of a successfully
cloned human, despite several attempts (Cloning Fact Sheet, 2017). Time, money and resources have
been spent in these trials, but whether or not we as human beings and God s children should even be
attempting to make carbon copies of another human is an important question. Cloning is wrong
ethically and theologically. It is as if humans are intervening in natural creation and playing God, it
can develop new diseases and scientific challenges that never before existed and clones would serve
very little real purpose in society. According to the truth that we, as Christians, hold as evident in the
Holy Bible, cloning is theologically wrong. God created all things and with cloning it is the unnatural
creation of life by man, through science. In Genesis, the word says, So God created mankind in his
own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them. (Genesis 1:27).
This means that all humans are created by God in his image, and in the act of human cloning is to
deviate from his creation, as if it is not good enough, and play the role of God by creating man. The
only way a human should be created, according to Psalms, is natural reproduction between a man and
a woman who are sworn into a marriage, Children are a heritage from the Lord, offspring a reward
from him. Like arrows in the hands of a warrior are children born in one s youth. Blessed is the

Bob Marley And The Wailers
Reggae is a music genre that evolved from the Jamaican music style called ska, and was influenced by
American rhythm and blues. Reggae contains many references Rastafarianism, which many consider
the result of Bob Marley s practice of integrating reggae with Rastafarian ideology. This paper serves
to examine reggae, with special emphasis on a lyric analysis of Jamaican reggae band Bob Marley and
the Wailers. The major question this paper addresses the social context that led to the dominance of
social criticism in the lyrics of reggae songs, the importance and significance of Rastafarianism, as
well as how reggae has transformed and spread across the world.
Reggae was born from a community of marginalized poor Blacks in Trenchtown, the ... Show more

The context of deindustrialization that gave birth to American hip hop is comparable to that of the
community of marginalized poor Blacks in ghetto Trenchtown in Jamaica. Hip hop was able to
replicate and reimagine the grievances of urban life and symbolically appropriates urban space, and
give disadvantaged young Black youth a voice to vent their frustrations (Rose, 1994). The tensions
and contradictions in public urban landscape during a period of substantial transformation in New
York and attempts to seize the shifting urban terrain are found within hip hop s rap lyrics. As a result,
rap lyrics directly related to urban deindustrialization of the 1970s, the postindustrial urban landscape
in 1980s, and impact of all these social pressures on the Black communities. Hip hop s emergence
entails several Afro diasporic forms, traditions, and practices, and rap is form of protest (Rose, 1994).
Police brutality, racism, and harassment make up the political core of male rapper s social criticism.
This strongly parallels the social function of reggae lyrics.
Rose (1994) talks about the long history of Black cultural subversion and social critique in music and
performance, and the concept of the hidden transcript . In social conditions in which direct attacks on
authoritative groups are unwise, oppressed people may use music to mock those in power, to express
rage, and to produce fantasies of subversion (Rose,

Immanuel Kant s Philosophy On Philosophy
People were lost. They did not know where and what to follow. Therefore, many philosophers came
up with ideas to convince people to live ¨better¨. Rationalism related with the overview of
mathematical approaches into philosophy during the period by the major rationalist figures such as
Descartes, Leibniz and Spinoza developed people´s way of thinking in many different ways.
Rationalism is perspective which engages the rational and deductive reason, an opposite structure
from personal experience or teachings as the foundation of knowledge or rationalization. Therefore,
the concept of rationalism relies on the knowledge that everyday life has a rational configuration in
that all aspects of it can remain through facts and knowledge. Proverbs ... Show more content on

Kant refused the arguments from the empiricists, and kept his statement of reason itself is organized
with practices of gained experience and classifications that provides a phenomenal and rational
configuration to any possible item of empirical experience. Kant s famous statement of this duty says,
Act only according to that maxim by which you can at the same time will that it should become a
universal law.
Lastly, the perception of Romanticism appeared in encounter with the Enlightenment within the
society. The concept was too vague. Philosophers indicated human nature as constant being. The
concept of Romanticism had also confronted the culture of church because it disagreed with the
thought of human intention and the enlightenment. The philosophers of Romanticism argued and
stopped certain church movement due to their various types of emotions and inspiration. Romanticism
influenced the society in many religious ways. It mainly served for Roman Catholicism through its
exterior characteristic. Romanticism also emphasized individualism. When God told the world to
serve one another, Romanticism tried to solve the problem alone.
God has allowed freedom of will to all human, yet He specifically stated to live to glorify His name.

Good People David Foster Wallace Summary
The Ambiance of Human Decency
How does the setting of Good People by David Foster Wallace contribute to the representation of what
it means to be a good person? The short story includes a myriad of techniques that contribute to the
theme of the text. Wallace explores the concept of human decency and relates the subject to how
certain actions and beliefs affect the value of a person in the story. As the religious characters face the
decision of whether to abort an unborn child, protagonist Lane Dean Jr. seeks an approach that would
make him what he believes to be a good person. Although the story s narration explicitly contributes
to the story s meaning, looking at the tone and symbolism of the static setting makes visible the way
the story communicates its message of what it means to be a good person. The environment of the
peaceful and innocent setting, symbolic meaning behind carefully described objects, and consistency
in the location all serve as examples that contribute to the demonstration of the characters in their
attempt to encounter righteousness. These factors of setting enhance thematic patterns and
implications by using descriptive details of imagery to help the reader closely understand specific
emotions and implied meanings that are crucial to the the story s exploration of human decency.
When introducing and laying the foundation of a story, the setting described has the ability to engage
the reader and paint a picture of the tone

The Gender Difference Between Rumination and Reflection
Gender difference between Rumination and Reflection
Abstract
This study examined the gender differences between rumination and reflection. Undergraduate
psychology students (251 women with the mean age 22.08 and 94 men with the mean age 22.64)
were each given a questionnaire to fill out as part of their course requirement. The aim of the
study was to examine if there were differences in coping styles between men and women. The
hypothesis women would use rumination more as a coping strategy and that men would use
reflection more often. The results supported the hypothesis that women tend to use rumination
more so than men. Contrary to expectations that men would use reflection ... Show more content on

Thayer s et al ., replica study used the 22 item version of the
Beck Depression Inventory (BDI) to measure the students depressive symptoms.
Thayer, Rossy, Ruiz Padial and Johnsen (2003) , also used the Trait Meta Mood Scale (TMMS)
Solovey et al., (1995, as cited in Thayer et al., 2003) which measures emotional regulation.
3
The TMMS is a 30 item self report measure that is designed to measure participants beliefs
about their emotional regulation strategies ( Thayer et al.,).
As was expected by Thayer, Rossy, Ruiz Padial and Johnsen (2003), women reported more
depression, sadness, guilt, blame and tiredness. On the TMMS women scored higher then men,
showing that women give more attention to their moods and feelings.
In further studies conducted by Nolen Hoeksema and Jackson (2001), it was predicted that
there would be gender differences between men and women who believed that their emotions
were uncontrollable and that they would more likely engage in rumination. Nolen Hoeksema
and Jackson also predicted that men and women as a group would be more likely than men as a
group to have beliefs that centred around societies views that women are more emotionally
labile and have less control over their emotions Fabes amp; Martin (1991, as cited in Nolen

Similarities Between Modern And Modern Music
Essay From the beginning of time humans have created music with their voices and have used
technology to create instruments and different sounds to create music. Everything comes from
something, all music is inspired by something. This is seen through the similarities between modern
and ancient music. The musicians Lido and Giovanni Gabrieli share many musical elements. Peder
Losnegård also known as Lido, LidoLido, Lil P, and Trippy Turtle is a Norwegian rapper, record
producer, singer, and songwriter. He was born at Tysvær, Norway on October 26, 1992. But moved to
Los Angeles, CA, USA to further his career. He is skilled at playing many instruments: his vocals,
piano, the drums, and programming. He makes music in the genres of electronica, wonky, trip hop, hip
hop, and jersey club. He s been active from 2005 to present day. Losnegård grew up writing songs and
playing the piano, and he liked to listen to hip hop music, and later developed his own melodic style,
mixing genres of music. In 2005 he participated in Melodi Grand Prix Junior as Lil P. He later
changed his stage nameLidoLido. A few years after that he released five free mixtapes online, which
increased his popularity. He also released his first official single Go n Be Gone on the Fairplay
Entertainment label. Then Losnegård appeared on NRK s Lydverket magazine, and signed to
Universal Music Norway. And finished high school Skeisvang High School in Haugesund, where he

Reflection About Art
I have never been into art or liked the arts for that matter, I cannot draw to save my life and being
creative with art brings my imagination to a halt. When I saw this project, I wasn t sure what I would
use to help make the art, most people I saw were using metals, but I wanted to do something different
and that made me nervous. But I had an even harder time figuring out what I wanted to create. I had
about a million ideas in my head, but had an extremely hard time looking at things that I found and
picturing them all together becoming a sculpture.
I started out with sticks and paper garbage that I had found around my home and the places where I
walk my dogs. I didn t know what I wanted to do with them, but I felt like they were the material I
wanted to use. After I had gathered enough sticks and pieces of paper that I found on the ground I sat
down and tried to brainstorm what I could make. I came up with the idea of getting the sticks together
in a ball and gluing the trash paper on to create the look of the continents and the sticks be a globe. I
figured out very fast that the sticks would not hold together, even after I soaked them in water. I
ditched that idea and moved on to a new one.
I still had all the garbage that I found and figured I could make good use of that. After ditching the
sticks (not on the ground I put them in my green trash can so they could be picked up and disposed of
properly) I focused on the paper materials that I had picked up. I thought

Giza Informative Speech
Intro
Hi there! Welcome in the east wing! This wing is all going to be about the 7 wonders of the ancient
world. You will find the Great Pyramid of Giza, The lighthouse of Alexandria, the temple of Artemis
at Ephesus and so on! Some of them you might know about and well ... some of them you didn t! So
now stop reading this and have fun going back in time!
The great Pyramid of Giza, Egypt
The Great Pyramid of Giza is the oldest monument on the list of the 7 wonders of the ancient world. It
is also the last one standing.
The great pyramid was built between 2584 and 2561 BCE for the fourth dynasty Khufu (in Greek;
Cheops). It took approximately 20 years and 20,000 workers to complete the construction. But they
never used slaves. Lots of farmers ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
All the bluestones for the construction are imported from places up to 225 km! So how did they
manage to get stones that weigh more than 25 tons to the place where they are now? It s still a
mystery. There are some speculations that it s done with boats or partially by glaciers.
Funfact: Stonehenge went on the auction block in 1915. It s previous owner died in WWI. It was sold
for £ 6600, and three years later donated to the British government.
Statue of Athena in the Parthenon
The statue of Athena in the Parthenon is also not on the list of the 7 wonders of the ancient world. But
with the fact that the Parthenon itself is an amazing structure ALSO The statue of Athena used to be
standing there...How can it not be on the list??
The magnificent temple in Athens was built between 447 and 432 B.C. It was dedicated to their
goddess Athena (Goddess of wisdom, craft and war).
The temple was constructed to give a home to the statue of Athena, which is also made by Pheidias.
The statue was dedicated to her for her contribution by the victories in the Persian Wars. It was more
than 12 meters high and was mate of ivory (for the body) and gold (for the armor). She was fully
armed. In her right hand she held or Nike (Victory) or an owl (Wisdom). In her left hand she held her

Compare And Contrast Jacob Riis
Upon earning employment as a reporter in 1873, Jacob Riis intended to expose the deplorable living
conditions within the slums of New York city as well as the police department shelters that he himself
had to stay in. The living conditions in the slums were terrible for the tenants, as the tenements were
dark with poor air quality, overcrowded, unsanitary, and filled with crime and illnesses. At the time,
most of the residents in the slums were immigrants and there were no sanitary laws to regulate
housing conditions. By contrast, Lewis Hine became a photographer for the National Child Labor
Committee in 1908 to advocate for reform and child labor laws. During the time, society had become
industrialized and children were expected to work to support their families. These child laborers were
overworked, not payed well, and did not receive education because it was not mandated. Hine took
photographs of child laborers and factory workers in order to communicate the exploitation that these
workers were enduring ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

it. Lewis Hinesʻ efforts demonstrated his dedication to combating the societal, structural, and systemic
causes of social injustice that enabled the exploitation of factory workers and child laborers, whereas
Jacob Riis focused more on improving the conditions of the slums and avoided questioning the

Root Cellar Theodore Roethke Analysis
Theodore Roethke s poem Root Cellar has one stanza, and eleven lines total. Upon first reading the
title, I admit that it doesn t strike me as very original. This poem can very well be a description of the
author s cellar; a snapshot of an event being held in said cellar. The author begins with telling us that
nothing would sleep in [the] cellar . At first I pondered why the author would put that part in at the
very beginning, but as I read on I found that the beginning was the correct placement; it pulled the
reader (me) in, and had me asking, Why wouldn t anything sleep down there? Was it hot? Musty?
Dark? The author describes the cellar as dark, and uses similes, dank as a ditch and, roots ripe as old
bait to describe the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They then go on to describe the rotting roots, the decomposing leaves, the lime, etc. to further the
feeling of disgust when one thinks of such a place. The last two lines threw me for a loop however.
Nothing would give up life: Even the dirt kept breathing a small breath. Suddenly, my thoughts of
disgust transformed to more positive ones. Instead of thinking, Why would anyone allow something to
become so disgusting? , I think about how the leaves and the roots refused to go away. The shoots
continued to hang, low and in the way; the leaves and roots continued to make their presence known
by giving off the strong smell of decomposing matter. After reading the poem, I m still not 100% sure
on what the theme is. There was a shift from negative to positive in the last three lines, and lots of
imagery. Even then the poem still comes across as abstract and slightly vague. The author could be
describing their life; maybe the run down cellar and decaying roots are representations of an unhappy
or dysfunctional childhood. Maybe, in writing this, they are accepting that those memories will never
go away, but they don t define who they are. Or maybe the author is describing a time when they went
to get something from their cellar, and realized how disgusting it was. As always, it s whatever the
reader wants it to

A Study On A Fourth Month Male Child Essay
Introduction
The case study focuses on a 15th month male child (proband) brought by his mother to a pediatrician
with inconsolable crying due to acroparathesia in the lower extremities and angiokeratomas on his
skin. The mother is 30 year old Japanese healthy female (consultand) with a history of hypohydrosis.
The proband has two siblings, a 6 year old sister with a mild hearing deficit in both ears and a 4 year
old sister with no medical history. The consultand has two siblings, a 34 year old healthy male with a
history of hypohydrosis and 19 year old sister with angiokeratomas similar to the proband. The
consultand s father and uncles have passed away at young ages ranging from 42 50 due to acute
myocardial infarction, renal failure or acute stroke. The proband s father is Caucasian with a history of
mild hypertension. The paternal grandparents have a medical history of mild hypertension (paternal
grandmother) and hypocholesteremia (grandfather). Overall, the medical and family history of the
proband is consistent with X linked disease known as Anderson Fabry disease as the affected male
(consulstand s father) passed his X chromosome to all of his daughters (consultand and sister). In this
way, all daughters of affected males will have the gene for Anderson Fabry disease.
What is Anderson Fabry disease?
Anderson Fabry disease, commonly known as Fabry s disease is an X linked lysosomal storage
disorder, specifically a deficiency in lysosomal enzyme alpha galactosidase A

polycystic ovarian syndrome also contribute to weight gain and obesity, and as well as medications.

developing type 2 diabetes, obstructive sleep apnea, gastric reflux, urinary incontinence, and

Due to her obesity, she struggles with sleep apnea, which is a sleep disordered breathing (SDB),
accompanied by daytime symptoms. Sleep apnea can be divided into two types, central sleep apnea
and obstructive sleep apnea. Central sleep apnea is not common, and the cause is unknown. Central
sleep apnea is often associated with Cheyne stokes breathing. Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is
caused by upper airway obstruction and is mostly associated with snoring, disrupted sleep, excessive
daytime sleepiness, and is the most common type disease (Grossman Porth, 2014). Room 587 has
OSA, which is probably due to her obesity because sleep apnea is associated with obesity. Signs and
symptoms of sleep apnea are loud snoring and labored breathing interrupted by periods of silence that
are soon followed by apnea. Treatment of OSA is based on the severity of the condition. Behavior
measures may be the only treatment necessary, such as weight loss, and proper bed positioning disease
(Grossman Porth, 2014). Since Room 587 is not willing to make an effort to lose weight, then one can
say that she will struggle with this condition for a long time. Another comorbidity that Room 587 has
is a vascular disease, which is similar to PAD. Atherosclerosis is the main cause of PAD, which is
mostly in the vessels of the lower extremities. The popliteal arteries are affected the most, and when
lesions develop, then the tibial, peroneal, and pedal vessels can also be

Analysis Of Teenage Drivers
We has humans are prone to accidents. Because of this, you often see news articles consisting of fatal
and devastating crashes, of which are most oftenly new teen drivers. As such, there is extra
precautions taken by the government or the school you might go to to help prevent these crashes from
happening. In the article Teen Drivers the writer discusses many points on why these bizarre accidents
are in fact worse than they appear to be. As a result of reading the article, my views on teenage driving
have been confirmed.
Following the writer explains how teens driving is prone to accidents while driving with friends. As
Brian O Neill of the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety states, Put one teenager in a car, and you
may have a decent driver...Put four teenagers in a car, and you have a prescription for immature,

emotions that the driver must be dealing with as they have to focus 360 degrees around them: on the
road, on the lights, the cars around him/her, the marking on the road, pedestrians. Maybe they are also
inclined to state their input on the conversations in the car possibly having to fulfill the demands of
those passengers. Now, imagine that situation with a teenager who just go their license, it is scary, I

Thomas Edison Accomplishments
Genius is two percent inspiration and ninety eight percent perspiration, said by one of the most
ingenious inventors in American history. Thomas Alva Edison held more than 1,000 registered
trademarks and is best remembered for inventing the phonograph or jukebox/stereo turntable in 1877.
He also invented the first commercially successful electric light bulb two years later. Although Edison
did not invent the light bulb, he developed a durable fiber/thread that made its use practical.
Thomas Alva Edison was born on February 11, 1847 in Milan, Ohio, which was a community that was
the largest wheat shipping center in the world other than Odessa,Russia. His family moved to Port
Huron, Michigan in 1854, which exceeded the commercial excellence of both Milan and Odessa. After
spending 12 weeks in the noisy one room schoolhouse with 38 other kids of two different ages,
Thomas overworked and his short tempered teacher finally became flustered with Thomas questioning
and seemingly self centered behavior. Thomas made no secret of his belief that the other kids brains

this accomplishment was way less related to his particular discovery of an incandescent light bulb

practical system for generating and distributing light and power around the world. The majority of
historians usually associate Edison with the invention of the light bulb along with the other 1093
things he did indeed invent, using his bright, beautiful mind. The historians do practically ignore the

Summary Of The Child s Bath By Mary Cassatt
Ralph Larmann s photograph of Mary Cassatt s The Child s Bath is found in the second edition of
Gateways to Art: Understanding the Visual Arts. (DeWitte, Larmann and Shields, 2105, p. 429, fig.
3.3.23). At the time of the DeWitte et al. publication, this work was on display at the Art Institute of
Chicago, Illinois. This is a 39 ½ x 26 oil on canvas painting of a woman sitting on the floor, with a
child in her lap, gently holding tiny little toes in a wash basin. The work is approximately 124 years
old, having been completed in 1893 by the American Impressionist, Cassatt. (DeWitte et al.) She was
roughly 49 years old at the time and most likely living in France. (DeWitt et al.)
Addressing the historical period, albeit briefly, is necessary in order to establish the context and
potential biases in approaching the formal analysis of this work. First, the authors suggest that Cassatt
was influenced by Kitagawa Utamaro, a Japanese printmaker, noting that Cassatt mentioned his works

child s lap, and then up along the child s arm to the faces again. Without the pitcher or the elbow, it is
probable the audience s eyes would stay fixed on the subjects faces longer, potentially missing the toes
altogether. That being said, it is reasonable to suggest that there is a deeper meaning to the feet in the

females for copulation, the chances are slim, so when a male finds a female, most males are willing to
die for her. Sexual cannibalism in redback spiders is extremely interesting because the males can use
chemical cues to detect virgin females, females are in control of the situation, and males offer
themselves to females for longer copulation. The male Latrodectus hasselti can detect the chemical
from females webs to determine the status of her virginity. From the study by Stoltz, McNeil and
Andrade (2007), they found that males redback spiders will know which female is a virgin or not is
based on the pheromone released in their web. The specific chemical they found was methanol, which
the virgin females will secrete in their webs. A female Latrodectus hasselti advertise to the males that
she is a virgin so males will go to her web for mating, and in return the males will get ... Show more

About 65% of the males consumed by the females, but there are beneficial because cannibalized males
will copulate longer with the females than those who are not consumed (Andrade, 2003). This is also
supported by other studies, for examples, Prenter (2006) wrote that cannibalized males have the
opportunity to copulate longer, and Snow and Andrade (2004) the males who were consumed transfer
larger loads of sperm into female Latrodectus hasselti. Therefore, the act of sexual cannibalism lead to
increase of sperm transfer to female spermatheca, or sperm storage sites in

The Economy Of The Oil Industry
Over the last years, the oil industry practiced its deepest recession since 1990s. That being said, the
recovery for this industry finally starts getting better. The Organization of the Petroleum Exporting
Countries approved to change the production last year, 2016. This arrangement has been holding over
to this year, with oil prices increasing for the past several months. But in recent weeks, United States
records have been found greater oil prices have been faded. Experts think it will be years before oil
returns $100 a barrel, a price that was regular till late 2014. But after the oil price recovered from
below $30 in early 2016 to over $50 by the end of the year, there was increasing certainty in the
industry that crude oil could rise ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is why prices began to decrease. In December 2014 the price went down to $55.48 per barrel. At
that point, many people projected that Saudi Arabia and other oil producers will cut back on their own
production to changes prices, as they had in the past. Of course that didn t happen. Saudi Arabia
decided to increase production in order to keep its market share, hoping that the decrease in oil prices
would crush US oil industries, who require higher prices to stay gainful. And that s when things got
really interesting. Ever since Saudi Arabia s decision to maintain output in late 2014, prices have kept
dropping and reducing. This happened because supply continued strong and demand became weaker
than estimated. This shows that US drillers turned out to be far more adaptable to low oil prices than
the Saudis thought. As firms cut costs and increased productivity in order to keep the oil flowing . (Oil
Prices: What to Make of the Volatility.) In the meantime, major developing economies like China,
Russia, and Brazil put a discouragement on the oil industry. An unusually mild winter helped
overpower demand for heating oil, and also a stronger dollar means that some countries now have to
pay more for crude imports. Car owners in places like the United States, Europe, and Japan are paying
less for gasoline, which means they have more money to spend on other things than gas. This is why
oil businesses here in the United

In the study of micro-biology, there are several kinds of...
In the study of micro biology, there are several kinds of pathogens that can be observed in the human
body. They individually can pose a risk ranging from totally harmless, to life threatening, depending
on the pathogen. There are types of bacteria, virus, and even fungus that can cause a wide range of
problems for the human body. But there is one type of pathogen that is just as elusive as it is
dangerous a pathogen that is rarely discovered in the human body, yet when it is, doctors are at a loss
as to what can be done to stop it. It is called a Prion.
A prion is a protein with a three dimensional shape, as opposed to standard proteins. When a prion

However, there is also an opposing theory that suggests that the disease is caused by a virus, and that
the prion is merely a byproduct of the viral activity. When the disease is present within a cow, it
causes the brain to become riddled with holes that go all the way through the brain. Symptoms
manifest in strange behaviors, such as pathological nervousness and increased aggression.
The disease itself made headlines when it an epidemic hit Europe in the 1980s. The outbreak of BSE,
or mad cow disease , was amplified by the practice of feeding cows the meat products of their own
species. If a mad cow s brain matter was in the feeding cow s food, that cow could contract the
disease. The event became a widespread health hazard after a link between BSE and Creutzfeldt Jakob
disease was established, indicating that humans could also contract the disease by ingesting the brain
matter of cows. The epidemic was dealt with by changing the feeding practices the European meat
industry used to feed their cows.
Creutzfeldt Jakob disease is the variant of spongiform encephalopathy that infects humans. It can be
contracted from eating the contaminated brain matter of cows. Contraction of the disease is specific to
the brain matter consuming only muscle tissue from a steak poses no risk of contamination. The
disease targets the brain, and the patient will suffer

Swot Analysis Ryanair
Strengths Ryanair is one of the largest European airline company and it keeps growing by launching
new routes and opening new bases. Ryanair was the first company in reducing ticket costs and keep
them low at all times. Low fares area key strength of the company and very big advantage over other
airlines. Another strength of the company has a strong brand which means it s widely recognised.
Ryanair established in the European market share. The current market cap in millions is £17,729.86
according to London Stock Exchange. (Appendix 1) The last strength of Ryanair listed is the ability of
landing in over 200 destinations on 33 countries. Weakness Internally, there has been serious strategic
issues with current employment model applied by Ryanair. Statistics shown that the average length of
service for pilots is about 4.6 years and average of 386 pilots leave Ryanair each year since 2012. This
is caused by precarious nature of their employment relationship including disrespect towards pilots
and cabin crew, failure of giving scheduled time off and working over contracted hours. In this case
precarious work condition means that many Ryanair pilots don t have fixed permanent contract. Pilots
are grouped into Irish agency companies which have between 5 and 8 pilot directors, those agency
companies then subcontract into a UK labour provider of pilots and then that UK provider provides
the pilot labour into Ryanair. This causing a big distance between Ryanair and the

Humpback Whales Navigate By Stars
Both the reading passage and the lecture focus on the supporting evidence of the possibility that
humpback whales navigate by stars. While the passage points out three reasons why it is possible for
humpback whales to travel by stras, the professor disagrees with the three statements and expresses
his doubts about the validity of them. First of all, the author of the passage claims that humpback
whales have the intelligence to use stars for orientation. However, the professor maintains that the
ability to use stars for navigation has nothing to do with cognitive ability. In fact, as is mentioned by
the professor, dogs, whose brain capacity is only of medium level, have the ability of using stars for
navigation. Therefore, there is no correlation

International Patent
International Patent: Everything You Need to Know
An international patent, also referred to a PCT patent application, is a request that your invention be
patented outside of the United States. It is important to note that there is really no such thing as an
international patent. Rather, if you want to obtain patent protection in countries outside of the United
States, you ll file a PCT patent application. PCT, also referred to as Patent Cooperation Treaty, is an
international patent treaty that provides a procedure for filing for international protection. The treaty
helps those wanting to seek patent protection in other countries as it delays the process for up to 30
months (2 and a half years) so that inventors can further produce their ... Show more content on

The application, however, may not automatically provide you with protection in each of these
countries. The PCT application can only be used as a reservation for submitting your patent to those
specific countries, allowing you to delay the process for up to 2 and a half years so that you can make
a determination as to which countries to seek protection in. Only after that point is the PCT
application converted into a formal patent application.
In simpler terms, the PCT process includes two phases: [1] filing the international application and [2]
choosing which countries to apply for patent protection, and
converting the PCT application into an actual patent application within each specific country you wish
to seek protection in.
PCT Timeline
As previously noted, the main benefit of the PCT is to defer your international patent requests for a
period of up to 2 and a half years. Therefore, when you want to file a
PCT, you ll visit the WIPO website and gather all necessary documentation needed for filing. There
are still steps and guidelines for you to abide by for the PCT application itself. Once you have filed
your application, it ll be reviewed by a patent examiner who will then draft a written report and
opinion indicating the likelihood of you obtaining patent protection in each country you identified in
your application. For example, if, in your application, you indicated that

History And Evolution Of The Game
Football History and Evolution Aspects of the game can be traced back to the early second and third
century BC in China. Military manuals at the time describe an exercise called Tsu Chu, in which
players used a leather ball filled with feathers and hair. The aim of the game was to get the ball into a
small net fixed on to bamboo canes while attempting the opposing team from doing the same to their
net. Variations of the game are also documented in Egyptian and Greek society (History Channel,
2013) The main rules that make you modern day football we established in England 1854, the
standard dimensions of the ball we later agreed in 1863 and finally the duration of the game was set in
1866.(FIFA). The first football competition in the word, the FA cup was established in 1872 and
involved 50 teams. The first international game of football was played between England and Scotland
in 1872. The game spread fairly rapidly across the world from then on with FIFA being established in
1904 with 7 founding member countries. The first world cup was held in 1930. By 2007 there were
207 member countries part of FIFA representing almost every country in the world. (FIFA, 2016) The
use of technology on the refereeing of the game has been minute as it is feared it would not be 100%
reliable and slow down the game. However recently goal line technology has been introduced to make
sure the ball has crossed the line before a goal can be awarded. On the playing side of the game new

Erikson s Psychosocial Stages Of Development
The middle adulthood stage of development is from about forty years of age until about sixty five
years of age. At this stage, the typical person has found their desired career path, a relationship worth
settling down with, and their piece of the bigger picture. Being successful and giving back to the
community is important during this time frame. According to Erikson s psychosocial stages of human
development, this is the point in life where the question is generativity or stagnation. Generativity is
reached if a person feels that they are successful and doing a good service for the rest of the world, but
if the feeling of failure in these areas arises stagnation, inactivity, is reached. Both generativity and

Piette s House At Montafoucault
The painting Piette s House at Montfoucault is a piece of impressionism and landscape art. In the
painting, it shows a someone s house in the winter time, two people standing in front of it, and many
trees in front of it. It was painted by Camille Pissarro, during the winter of 1874, when he visited his
friend, Ludovic Piette Montfoucault s house. It was painted with oil paints and is currently residing at
the Sterling and Francine Clark Art Institute.
The art has many different textures, colours/values, and lines. The lines are all thin and broken or
curved, except for the tree trunks which are thick and straight and the lines around the houses, which
are straight. The lines do not outline the objects. The textures around the trees, the snow, and the
humans all feel very soft, however, around the houses, where they look rough and look like if you
were to touch it, it would feel like real bricks. The painting is mainly made up of white, and bright
colours, with some darker colours at the areas with shade, the leaves of the trees, and the roofs of the
houses. The colours make the painting look realistic, and it makes it seem like the place is cold. The
form in this painting is 3D. The artist used these elements, to make it so you feel like you are actually
there, or it is just a blurred photograph. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Dream In The American Dream
The American Dream, has stereotypically branded a permanent mental image of a successful and
stunning married couple standing in front of their perfect white picket fence, 1.5 children, and in the
back ground is their classic, cookie cutter, utopian house. However, this idea has wrongly become the
standard model to living a successful life. This American Dream now excludes a large, diverse group
of people; the poor and the immigrants who have given everything to migrate and relocate only to
have their dreams become farther away from reality. This harsh, and rather unrealistic, utopian mental
picture does not accurately show the dreams of all people, and is only merely a dream society has
portrayed. Millennials especially, have taken note and are reacting with very different mindsets than
the generations that have come before them. The millennials desire more and are attempting to make a
change. Sometimes the simplest things are the hardest to understand. Dreams have strange concepts
that some people do not fully comprehend, especially ones that seem out of range. However, fantasy is
an essential component in surviving. Dreams and goals differ, yet are constantly mixed up, confused
and misused. The terms are unique in their own ways, have very distinct aspects but somehow still
become intertwined. People s modern goals typically include graduating school, getting a degree,
obtaining a job and becoming successful enough to have a decent paycheck that supports all the basic

Water Is The Most Valued And Vulnerable Natural Resource...
Water is the most valued and vulnerable natural resource that no living organism can survive without
it. Maintaining the water s quality is a very important task where all individuals involved must
perform with at the highest standard of honesty, integrity, and responsibility. This is because of the
fact that they have a direct impact to the society s health. Usually, chlorination, adding doses of
chlorine, is a common disinfection practice to kill any harmful microorganism in the water. However,
with wrong calculations or improper managements in terms of using chlorination method can result in
some serious problems. The case of Walkerton is an example of how reducing government budget,
failing to maintain chlorine residual levels at the requirement, and continuing unprofessional practices
for years like altering reports result in ethical violation that led to a horrible tragedy that shouldn t
happened. For more than 20 years, it had been the practice of public utilities commission (PUC)
operators to monitoring the chlorine residual level and submitting daily logs to the Ministry of
Environment (MOE). However, the MOE is the ministry primarily responsible for promulgating and
enforcing regulations and policy that apply to municipal water systems (Salvadori). But within in
MOE, it is very difficult to recall data and information as they fall behind the advance of technology
which resulted from reductions in budget in 1996. Government budget reductions resulted in

The paramedic will interpret the EKG and other vitals to make a determination of the appropriate
intervention based on a set of predetermined criteria to reduce the pain and minimize the chance of the

themselves with the underlying issue as to why the patient may have developed chest pain.
The website About.com defines clinician as Anyone who has patient care responsibilities. It usually
means a physician, but there are other healthcare professionals who can also be considered clinicians,
such as nurse practitioners and physician assistants. Unlike the paramedic that must operate under
predetermined protocols, a clinician has the knowledge to use judgment to look at the factors that have
influenced a patient s illness or injury. Instead of just giving nitro to treat the chest pain, the clinician
has the duty to recommend a course of preventative measures such as diet, exercise, and perhaps
prescribe a daily dose of aspirin.
Currently, in Australia, paramedics are required to have a bachelor s degree to work as paramedics.
This degree changes them from technicians to clinicians. This new requirement required a change in
both education and culture. To change the culture, the importance of education had to occur within the

Nintendo Gamecube And Its Effects On Nintendo
After seeing how the Nintendo Gamecube was doing many 3rd party developers did not want to work
with Nintendo. Developers wanted to make mature games for the Play Station 2 and the soon to be
released Xbox. Another reason developers shied away from developing on the Gamecube was for the
lack of power and storage space with the discs (Thomas, L). Sony was using standard sized discs
which meant that bigger games would be able to be played and developed, because of all the storage.
Nintendo decided to try using smaller discs that had minimal storage and games would not be as big.
This turned developers away and as of 2017 this decision Nintendo made back in 2001 still affects
Nintendo.

After Sega went out of business with their last console, the Sega Dreamcast, there were only two
developers creating consoles which was Nintendo and Sony. Microsoft saw an opportunity to make
money and they had already had some experience in the video game industry with their help at Sega.
Microsoft started developing their console after the DirectX, which was a programming unit that was
mostly used for creating videos and various types of graphics for computers. Microsoft modified their
DirectX and made it into the Xbox. Since Microsoft built the Xbox from a computer it was extremely
powerful compared to Sony s Play Station 2, Nintendo s Gamecube, and Sega s Dreamcast ( ).
Microsoft was concerned if they would get support from third party developers because it was the first
video game console they produced.
The head of Microsoft, Bill Gates, first introduced the console at the Game Developers Conference in
2000 and it was a huge success. Bill went on to tell everyone that the Xbox was not just another
console, it was going to be the most powerful console to date (Marshall, R).

My Experience At The Gym
When I started searching for a place to volunteer, I had a tough time finding the correct place, because
most places required for me to fill out an application to do a background check. I understand is a
process, but it was going to take too much time, and I wanted to start as soon as possible because of
time matter. However, that was not the only problem. The main issue was my work schedule because I
work two jobs, and I only have free time part of the weekends, which made my situation much more
complicated. The places I called needed the most help on week days. After calling several places and
visiting some of the locations, I decided to try another day and went to work. While I was at work, I
was having a conversation with one of the young lady s that exercises there at the gym, I was telling
her about my service learning, and that I had been looking all day but could not yet find one that
would work with my schedule. As I was telling her this, someone overheard the conversation and
said... I work at the food bank you can come and volunteer with us Her name is Nicole Anderson, and
she offered to help me get everything set up for me to volunteer with the community food bank.
Nicole said that they always needed volunteers there, and all I had to do, was to talk to the volunteer

Pan Europa s Main Issues
II. Issue Identification Pan Europa s main issues can be divided into three parts, the first and most
important being their financial struggle. Due to a recent price war, Pan Europa s profitability has
suffered greatly. Their debt equity ratio of 1.25 and price to earnings ratio of 8 times has resulted in a
below average stock price. Currently, their stock is being traded below book value and well below its
competition. This can have a disastrous effect on the company as many major security brokers are
labeling the stock as uncertain and issuing sell recommendations to investors. This can result in the
rapid sale of equity that would deflate Pan Europa s value even further. Such an event also opens the
door for a hostile takeover, as a third party can quickly acquire a large portion of equity. A high debt
equity ratio and historically high debt financing initiatives increases potential for financial distress,
and possibly bankruptcy, if they cannot recover sufficient funds to cover their cost of debt The second
issue faced by Pan Europa has to do with their external environment. Low population growth in
northern Europe coupled with increasingly saturated markets has resulted in stagnant sales. As
competition intensifies, Pan Europa is forced to make risky decisions, such as the provocation of a
price war mentioned above. Although they may cause smaller, weaker firms to exit the market in the
short term, these rash decisions have impacted Pan Europa s bottom line.

Enemies In Animal Farm
Throughout the novel Animal Farm, there was always some sort of enemy. These enemies were
crucial to the story, that for the pigs to always put blame where it would be necessary to keep the
animals in line. In the novel, there were more than one enemy, and each enemy had its own reason for
being an enemy . Mr. Jones was the first and foremost crucial enemy of any enemy in this novel. He
was a human, and the farmer. He took care of the animals, though the animals only saw what he did
that was less than right. Mr. Jones was the reason for the rebellion, and the reason for the war. All the
animals hated him, which was why Napoleon would always threaten the animals with, You wouldn t
want Mr. Jones to come back, just to make the animals stay

Sony Computer Entertainment Vs Connectix Corporation Summary
Sony Computer Entertainment v. Connectix Corporation
Sony Computer Entertainment v. Connectix Corporation, 203 F.3d 596 (2000), is a result of the Ninth
Circuit Court of applications which governed the replication of a copyrighted BIOS software through
the progress of an emulator software does not institute copyright violation but is protected by
reasonable usage.
The court also ruled that Sony s PlayStation symbol had not been tarnished by Connectix Crop s sale
of its emulator software, the Virtual Game Station.
Context of the case
Connectix begins the progress of the Virtual Game Station (VGS) in July 1998 as a Macintosh
software application that matches Sony s current Play Station video games console s hardware and
firmware.
This would make it likely for VGS operators to play games advanced for the play station on
Macintosh hardware, with strategies to announce a Windows PC well matched variety at a future day.
Connectix s development approach was constructed upon inverse engineering the play Station s BIOS
firmware, primary by means of the uncharged BIOS to progress imitation for the hardware, and then
by evolving a BIOS of their own using the unique firmware as an aid for fixing.
Throughout the progress work, Connectix communicated Sony, demanding technical support for
finishing the VGS, but this appeal was finally decayed in September 1998.
The Video Game Station growth touched conclusion in December 1998, with the software actuality
commercially

  • 2. Nipah Virus Research Paper For the Nipah Virus, fruit bats of the Pteropus genus have been identified as the natural reservoir. The virus has been isolated in many bodily locations, such as the brain and spinal fluid, and from environmental prototypes, like bat urine and partially eaten fruit, such as found in cases of Malaysia. Antibodies of the Nipah virus have been found in the sera of fruit bats, which have been collected in India, Indonesia, and many others such as Madagascar and Ghana. The presence of these antibodies indicate that goats, horses, and some cats and dogs have been reported as infected, with a history of exposure to infected pigs in Malaysia. This wide range of locations where NiV has been discovered represents its wide geographic distribution. While ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These reported outbreaks have a strong seasonal pattern and a limited geographical range , with a fatality rate ranging from 40 70%...although it has been as high as 100% in some outbreaks (World Health, p.3). As NiV was first recognized in an outbreak of 276 cases in Malaysia and Singapore from September 1998 to May 1999, most of the patients documented were noted to have had some contact with infected pigs. Autopsy findings showed diffused vasculitis within the central nervous system, including immunostaining of endothelial cells with anti Nipah virus hyper immune serum. Of the patients primarily with encephalitis; 39% died (Hughes Wilson, 2009, p.1). NiV was initially isolated from urine specimens collected from P. hypomelanus roost, as well as fruit partially eaten by bats in Malaysia. Experimental injections of Pteropus bats were conducted in order to identify the existence of the NiV virus within the mammals; however, it does not cause illness in the bats. • 3. The Ethics Of Human Cloning Human cloning is a topic surrounded in controversy. There is yet to be an instance of a successfully cloned human, despite several attempts (Cloning Fact Sheet, 2017). Time, money and resources have been spent in these trials, but whether or not we as human beings and God s children should even be attempting to make carbon copies of another human is an important question. Cloning is wrong ethically and theologically. It is as if humans are intervening in natural creation and playing God, it can develop new diseases and scientific challenges that never before existed and clones would serve very little real purpose in society. According to the truth that we, as Christians, hold as evident in the Holy Bible, cloning is theologically wrong. God created all things and with cloning it is the unnatural creation of life by man, through science. In Genesis, the word says, So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them. (Genesis 1:27). This means that all humans are created by God in his image, and in the act of human cloning is to deviate from his creation, as if it is not good enough, and play the role of God by creating man. The only way a human should be created, according to Psalms, is natural reproduction between a man and a woman who are sworn into a marriage, Children are a heritage from the Lord, offspring a reward from him. Like arrows in the hands of a warrior are children born in one s youth. Blessed is the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Bob Marley And The Wailers Reggae is a music genre that evolved from the Jamaican music style called ska, and was influenced by American rhythm and blues. Reggae contains many references Rastafarianism, which many consider the result of Bob Marley s practice of integrating reggae with Rastafarian ideology. This paper serves to examine reggae, with special emphasis on a lyric analysis of Jamaican reggae band Bob Marley and the Wailers. The major question this paper addresses the social context that led to the dominance of social criticism in the lyrics of reggae songs, the importance and significance of Rastafarianism, as well as how reggae has transformed and spread across the world. Reggae was born from a community of marginalized poor Blacks in Trenchtown, the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The context of deindustrialization that gave birth to American hip hop is comparable to that of the community of marginalized poor Blacks in ghetto Trenchtown in Jamaica. Hip hop was able to replicate and reimagine the grievances of urban life and symbolically appropriates urban space, and give disadvantaged young Black youth a voice to vent their frustrations (Rose, 1994). The tensions and contradictions in public urban landscape during a period of substantial transformation in New York and attempts to seize the shifting urban terrain are found within hip hop s rap lyrics. As a result, rap lyrics directly related to urban deindustrialization of the 1970s, the postindustrial urban landscape in 1980s, and impact of all these social pressures on the Black communities. Hip hop s emergence entails several Afro diasporic forms, traditions, and practices, and rap is form of protest (Rose, 1994). Police brutality, racism, and harassment make up the political core of male rapper s social criticism. This strongly parallels the social function of reggae lyrics. Rose (1994) talks about the long history of Black cultural subversion and social critique in music and performance, and the concept of the hidden transcript . In social conditions in which direct attacks on authoritative groups are unwise, oppressed people may use music to mock those in power, to express rage, and to produce fantasies of subversion (Rose, ... Rationalism is perspective which engages the rational and deductive reason, an opposite structure from personal experience or teachings as the foundation of knowledge or rationalization. Kant refused the arguments from the empiricists, and kept his statement of reason itself is organized with practices of gained experience and classifications that provides a phenomenal and rational configuration to any possible item of empirical experience. Lastly, the perception of Romanticism appeared in encounter with the Enlightenment within the society. The concept was too vague. Philosophers indicated human nature as constant being. The concept of Romanticism had also confronted the culture of church because it disagreed with the thought of human intention and the enlightenment. The philosophers of Romanticism argued and stopped certain church movement due to their various types of emotions and inspiration. Romanticism influenced the society in many religious ways. It mainly served for Roman Catholicism through its exterior characteristic. Romanticism also emphasized individualism. • 6. Good People David Foster Wallace Summary The Ambiance of Human Decency How does the setting of Good People by David Foster Wallace contribute to the representation of what it means to be a good person? The short story includes a myriad of techniques that contribute to the theme of the text. Wallace explores the concept of human decency and relates the subject to how certain actions and beliefs affect the value of a person in the story. As the religious characters face the decision of whether to abort an unborn child, protagonist Lane Dean Jr. seeks an approach that would make him what he believes to be a good person. Although the story s narration explicitly contributes to the story s meaning, looking at the tone and symbolism of the static setting makes visible the way the story communicates its message of what it means to be a good person. The environment of the peaceful and innocent setting, symbolic meaning behind carefully described objects, and consistency in the location all serve as examples that contribute to the demonstration of the characters in their attempt to encounter righteousness. These factors of setting enhance thematic patterns and implications by using descriptive details of imagery to help the reader closely understand specific emotions and implied meanings that are crucial to the the story s exploration of human decency. When introducing and laying the foundation of a story, the setting described has the ability to engage the reader and paint a picture of the tone ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 10. Reflection About Art I have never been into art or liked the arts for that matter, I cannot draw to save my life and being creative with art brings my imagination to a halt. When I saw this project, I wasn t sure what I would use to help make the art, most people I saw were using metals, but I wanted to do something different and that made me nervous. But I had an even harder time figuring out what I wanted to create. I had about a million ideas in my head, but had an extremely hard time looking at things that I found and picturing them all together becoming a sculpture. I started out with sticks and paper garbage that I had found around my home and the places where I walk my dogs. I didn t know what I wanted to do with them, but I felt like they were the material I wanted to use. After I had gathered enough sticks and pieces of paper that I found on the ground I sat down and tried to brainstorm what I could make. I came up with the idea of getting the sticks together in a ball and gluing the trash paper on to create the look of the continents and the sticks be a globe. I figured out very fast that the sticks would not hold together, even after I soaked them in water. I ditched that idea and moved on to a new one. I still had all the garbage that I found and figured I could make good use of that. After ditching the sticks (not on the ground I put them in my green trash can so they could be picked up and disposed of properly) I focused on the paper materials that I had picked up. I thought ... Compare And Contrast Jacob Riis Upon earning employment as a reporter in 1873, Jacob Riis intended to expose the deplorable living conditions within the slums of New York city as well as the police department shelters that he himself had to stay in. The living conditions in the slums were terrible for the tenants, as the tenements were dark with poor air quality, overcrowded, unsanitary, and filled with crime and illnesses. At the time, most of the residents in the slums were immigrants and there were no sanitary laws to regulate housing conditions. By contrast, Lewis Hine became a photographer for the National Child Labor Committee in 1908 to advocate for reform and child labor laws. During the time, society had become industrialized and children were expected to work to support their families. These child laborers were overworked, not payed well, and did not receive education because it was not mandated. • 13. Root Cellar Theodore Roethke Analysis Theodore Roethke s poem Root Cellar has one stanza, and eleven lines total. Upon first reading the title, I admit that it doesn t strike me as very original. This poem can very well be a description of the author s cellar; a snapshot of an event being held in said cellar. The author begins with telling us that nothing would sleep in [the] cellar . At first I pondered why the author would put that part in at the very beginning, but as I read on I found that the beginning was the correct placement; it pulled the reader (me) in, and had me asking, Why wouldn t anything sleep down there? Was it hot? Musty? Dark? The author describes the cellar as dark, and uses similes, dank as a ditch and, roots ripe as old bait to describe the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... They then go on to describe the rotting roots, the decomposing leaves, the lime, etc. to further the feeling of disgust when one thinks of such a place. The last two lines threw me for a loop however. Nothing would give up life: Even the dirt kept breathing a small breath. Suddenly, my thoughts of disgust transformed to more positive ones. Instead of thinking, Why would anyone allow something to become so disgusting? , I think about how the leaves and the roots refused to go away. The shoots continued to hang, low and in the way; the leaves and roots continued to make their presence known by giving off the strong smell of decomposing matter. After reading the poem, I m still not 100% sure on what the theme is. There was a shift from negative to positive in the last three lines, and lots of imagery. Even then the poem still comes across as abstract and slightly vague. The author could be describing their life; maybe the run down cellar and decaying roots are representations of an unhappy or dysfunctional childhood. Maybe, in writing this, they are accepting that those memories will never go away, but they don t define who they are. Or maybe the author is describing a time when they went to get something from their cellar, and realized how disgusting it was. As always, it s whatever the reader wants it to ... At that point, many people projected that Saudi Arabia and other oil producers will cut back on their own production to changes prices, as they had in the past. Of course that didn t happen. Saudi Arabia decided to increase production in order to keep its market share, hoping that the decrease in oil prices would crush US oil industries, who require higher prices to stay gainful. And that s when things got really interesting. Ever since Saudi Arabia s decision to maintain output in late 2014, prices have kept dropping and reducing. This happened because supply continued strong and demand became weaker than estimated. This shows that US drillers turned out to be far more adaptable to low oil prices than the Saudis thought. • 32. Water Is The Most Valued And Vulnerable Natural Resource... Water is the most valued and vulnerable natural resource that no living organism can survive without it. Maintaining the water s quality is a very important task where all individuals involved must perform with at the highest standard of honesty, integrity, and responsibility. This is because of the fact that they have a direct impact to the society s health. Usually, chlorination, adding doses of chlorine, is a common disinfection practice to kill any harmful microorganism in the water. However, with wrong calculations or improper managements in terms of using chlorination method can result in some serious problems. The case of Walkerton is an example of how reducing government budget, failing to maintain chlorine residual levels at the requirement, and continuing unprofessional practices for years like altering reports result in ethical violation that led to a horrible tragedy that shouldn t happened. For more than 20 years, it had been the practice of public utilities commission (PUC) operators to monitoring the chlorine residual level and submitting daily logs to the Ministry of Environment (MOE). However, the MOE is the ministry primarily responsible for promulgating and enforcing regulations and policy that apply to municipal water systems (Salvadori). But within in MOE, it is very difficult to recall data and information as they fall behind the advance of technology which resulted from reductions in budget in 1996. • 33. Australia s Emergency Medical Services Like many countries, Australia s emergency medical services started out as just people transporting sick and injured patients to the hospital. This service evolved along with technology and time. In the 1960 s, the defibrillator made its way onto the ambulance, and the CPR technique was developed (Tintinalli, Cameron, Holliman, 2010). This new cardiac care soon spread all over the world and is perhaps the beginning of what we recognize now as emergency medical services. Soon ambulance personnel was required to learn more than just basic first aid. This personnel was responding to emergency calls and providing medical treatments as well as transportation to the hospital. The EMS service has continually evolved with new technology and the ... The paramedic will interpret the EKG and other vitals to make a determination of the appropriate intervention based on a set of predetermined criteria to reduce the pain and minimize the chance of the condition worsening. The emphasis for the paramedic is to treat the current symptoms and not concern themselves with the underlying issue as to why the patient may have developed chest pain. The website About.com defines clinician as Anyone who has patient care responsibilities. It usually means a physician, but there are other healthcare professionals who can also be considered clinicians, such as nurse practitioners and physician assistants. Unlike the paramedic that must operate under predetermined protocols, a clinician has the knowledge to use judgment to look at the factors that have influenced a patient s illness or injury. Instead of just giving nitro to treat the chest pain, the clinician has the duty to recommend a course of preventative measures such as diet, exercise, and perhaps prescribe a daily dose of aspirin. Currently, in Australia, paramedics are required to have a bachelor s degree to work as paramedics. This degree changes them from technicians to clinicians. This new requirement required a change in both education and culture. To change the culture, the importance of education had to occur within the field of paramedicine (Escott, 2016). To change the culture around the profession, respect for the job, knowledge, and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 37. Nintendo Gamecube And Its Effects On Nintendo After seeing how the Nintendo Gamecube was doing many 3rd party developers did not want to work with Nintendo. Developers wanted to make mature games for the Play Station 2 and the soon to be released Xbox. Another reason developers shied away from developing on the Gamecube was for the lack of power and storage space with the discs (Thomas, L). Sony was using standard sized discs which meant that bigger games would be able to be played and developed, because of all the storage. Nintendo decided to try using smaller discs that had minimal storage and games would not be as big. This turned developers away and as of 2017 this decision Nintendo made back in 2001 still affects Nintendo. Even though the Nintendo Gamecube was not selling like ... Microsoft saw an opportunity to make money and they had already had some experience in the video game industry with their help at Sega. Microsoft started developing their console after the DirectX, which was a programming unit that was mostly used for creating videos and various types of graphics for computers. Microsoft modified their DirectX and made it into the Xbox. Since Microsoft built the Xbox from a computer it was extremely powerful compared to Sony s Play Station 2, Nintendo s Gamecube, and Sega s Dreamcast ( ). Microsoft was concerned if they would get support from third party developers because it was the first video game console they produced. The head of Microsoft, Bill Gates, first introduced the console at the Game Developers Conference in 2000 and it was a huge success. Bill went on to tell everyone that the Xbox was not just another console, it was going to be the most powerful console to date (Marshall, R). • 39. My Experience At The Gym When I started searching for a place to volunteer, I had a tough time finding the correct place, because most places required for me to fill out an application to do a background check. I understand is a process, but it was going to take too much time, and I wanted to start as soon as possible because of time matter. However, that was not the only problem. The main issue was my work schedule because I work two jobs, and I only have free time part of the weekends, which made my situation much more complicated. The places I called needed the most help on week days. After calling several places and visiting some of the locations, I decided to try another day and went to work. While I was at work, I was having a conversation with one of the young lady s that exercises there at the gym, I was telling her about my service learning, and that I had been looking all day but could not yet find one that would work with my schedule. • 40. Pan Europa s Main Issues II. Issue Identification Pan Europa s main issues can be divided into three parts, the first and most important being their financial struggle. Due to a recent price war, Pan Europa s profitability has suffered greatly. Their debt equity ratio of 1.25 and price to earnings ratio of 8 times has resulted in a below average stock price. Currently, their stock is being traded below book value and well below its competition. This can have a disastrous effect on the company as many major security brokers are labeling the stock as uncertain and issuing sell recommendations to investors. This can result in the rapid sale of equity that would deflate Pan Europa s value even further. Such an event also opens the door for a hostile takeover, as a third party can quickly acquire a large portion of equity. A high debt equity ratio and historically high debt financing initiatives increases potential for financial distress, and possibly bankruptcy, if they cannot recover sufficient funds to cover their cost of debt The second issue faced by Pan Europa has to do with their external environment. Low population growth in northern Europe coupled with increasingly saturated markets has resulted in stagnant sales. As competition intensifies, Pan Europa is forced to make risky decisions, such as the provocation of a price war mentioned above. Although they may cause smaller, weaker firms to exit the market in the short term, these rash decisions have impacted Pan Europa s bottom line. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 42. Sony Computer Entertainment Vs Connectix Corporation Summary Sony Computer Entertainment v. Connectix Corporation Sony Computer Entertainment v. Connectix Corporation, 203 F.3d 596 (2000), is a result of the Ninth Circuit Court of applications which governed the replication of a copyrighted BIOS software through the progress of an emulator software does not institute copyright violation but is protected by reasonable usage. The court also ruled that Sony s PlayStation symbol had not been tarnished by Connectix Crop s sale of its emulator software, the Virtual Game Station. Context of the case Connectix begins the progress of the Virtual Game Station (VGS) in July 1998 as a Macintosh software application that matches Sony s current Play Station video games console s hardware and firmware. This would make it likely for VGS operators to play games advanced for the play station on Macintosh hardware, with strategies to announce a Windows PC well matched variety at a future day. Connectix s development approach was constructed upon inverse engineering the play Station s BIOS firmware, primary by means of the uncharged BIOS to progress imitation for the hardware, and then by evolving a BIOS of their own using the unique firmware as an aid for fixing. Throughout the progress work, Connectix communicated Sony, demanding technical support for finishing the VGS, but this appeal was finally decayed in September 1998. The Video Game Station growth touched conclusion in December 1998, with the software actuality commercially ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
