Benefits Of Abstinence Of Bringing Sex Education
Bringing Sex Education in Schools
The US teen pregnancy rate is at 72.2%, which is larger than any rate in Western European
countries. Sex education can solve the problem that we see, and possibly lower that rate. It can
benefit kids by informing them about everything involving sex instead of sheltering them from the
truth. Abstinence only education is the other option that is typically used, but creating a program to
cover everything and not exclude some children who have different beliefs is the overall goal. This
program should be offered for all students as a mandatory course because of the amount of
information that is to be gained by teaching about sex, relationships, protection, STD s, and sexual
orientation.
There are two commonly ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
That way is through sex education, it will provide a safe and stable environment for students
and even parents to understand options and routes each teen can take. Hopefully involving this
education into all schools can overall affect almost all teens as well as their families, bringing a
positive impact to the topic that people are weary of. Abstinence only education may be effective
for some and is a great way to teach kids, but sex education provides a more specialized learning for
every student. Therefore it is a necessity in any child s education, young or old, it is never too late to

Current State Of Fuel And World Energy Demand
Current State of fuel World Energy Demand
Post 18th Century Industrial revolution has created a dependency on fossil fuels such as coal, oil
and natural gas for all technological and transportation demands that engineer modern society.
However. Such demands, and even their expected future demands threatens the overall worlds
energy supply and generates large strains on the environment. The Hydrogen economy article
published by Physics Today in December 2004 anticipated that the world energy demand will
double by 2050 in response to population growth and industrialisation of developing countries.
(Crabtree, Dresselhaus and Buchanan, 2004).
An article by Todd Woody of The Atlantic (Woody, 2013) has stated that developing countries will
account for 65% of the world s energy consumption by 2040. The majority of such consumption
being produced by non OCED nations such as India and China. This figure was published by the
United States Energy Information Administration. This can be summarised as a 2.2% annual
increase in fossil fuel usage in non OCED countries compared to that of 0.5% in OCED
communities such as some of the EU, North America and Australia. Figure 1.1 iProjected world
energy consumption (Eia.gov, 2013)
Further study has shown that due to this increased demand for fossil fuels, the Global Carbon
Project showed a 2.1% increase in greenhouse gas emissions in 2012. With 57% of those emissions
coming from developing countries. India and China contributed a third of

Tulane College Application Essay
I am interested in attending Tulane University because of its academic and social opportunities
as well as its location. Tulane has strong history, theatre, and dance departments. It is important to
me that I go to a university where I can receive the best possible education in the areas that
interest me. I am also interested in Tulane because it is a school where it is very easy to double
major and minor. I have a lot of interests, and I think collegeis the time for me to explore them. The
admissions counselor I spoke with told me that 70% of Tulane students have a minor, 33% have
a double major, and some students even have a triple major. I think this also shows that Tulane is
the type of school that attracts ambitious students with a variety of interests. Additionally, I like
that the core curriculum at Tulane allows students to investigate different areas of interests and
to possibly find a new direction for themselves. The admissions counselor I spoke to also
discussed that around 1/3 of Tulane students study abroad. This appeals to me because I would
like to be able to go study theatre in Europe. Furthermore, I have been studying Spanish for over
seven years, so I am interested in study abroad in Spain where I could be completely immersed in
the language.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
While I am interested in sorority life, I do not want to go to a school where fraternities and
sororities dominate campus life. Since only 40% of Tulane students participate in Greek life, I
think there is a good balance. Also, since Tulane has recruitment for sororities in the Spring, there
are many opportunities for freshman to socialize and to make friend before they decide if they
want to be a part of the Greek system. While I am not a huge sports fan, I like the environment of
school spirit that sports give a university. Sports at Tulane create a feeling of school spirit without
dominating student s social

Music Therapy In Steve Mencher´s Music And The Brain
Music has always been present in people s lives in various forms, shaping and remolding the ways
that our brains process and function. Because music resonates so deeply with people, it can be
used for various types of physical and mental therapy. Alicia Clair, professor of music education and
music therapyat the University of Kansas, helps research and unitize musicas a method of therapy.
She is most widely recognized for her research towards the affect of music on those with Alzheimer
s disease.
In this episode of Steve Mencher s podcast Music and the Brain, he discusses the benefits of music

Finding a cure for Alzheimer s is an issue near and dear to my heart, since I ve seen the stress and
pain it can cause a family to go through. I also believe very strongly in the connections that people
can make, maintain, or repair through the help of music. Since the most painful part of Alzheimer
s, in my opinion, is helplessly watching your relative forget who you are, the maintenance of those
connections is incredibly important. Some of my most visceral memories are associated with the
music I listened to with my family when I was a child. Listening to music from my childhood not
only triggers memories in my brain, but also sensory and emotional memories that resonate in a

Red Dress 1964
Red dress 1946 is a short story from Dance of the happy shades (a collection of short stories) by
Alice Munroe. It is about the great social pressures faced by the narrator, surrounding the
chronological events that take place before, during and after a school dance. The Red dress is
the dress her mother makes her for the dance, when she would clearly like to buy one instead
from a store, this suggests to us that she can not afford readymade clothes which then leads us to
presume she is of a lower socio economic class. The story is written from the point of view of an
adolescent girlin 1946 who is growing up. It is in first person narration which effectively carries the
anxiety of the protagonist making it personal and leading the... Show more content on

Around the house she wore no corset or stockings, she wore wedge heeled shoes and ankle
socks; her legs were marked with lumps of blue green vein. I thought her squatting position
shameless, even obscene... This also gives an insight as to what the protagonist see s a lady must
be like as opposed her mother who she see s in some lights as a failure as a women.
The protagonists best friend a girl named Lonnie is categorised as the typical normal girl, she is
polite to adults and boy crazy. Through the descriptive language used it becomes evident her
friend is two faced (polite to grownups only when they are present), quote Lonnie wore the

laughed at them and was a ferocious mimic, and they never knew. She is more adult, a good
friend, and the manner in which she is presented indicated that she is from a higher social class. It s
beautiful, said Lonnie, in her mild, sincere voice.
When the story s tone is anxious, the setting in which the story takes place is the school. The
narrator effectively shows the protagonists view of the social hierarchy as based on popularity,
experience and associated power through descriptive language. To indicate the protagonists

The Four Major Approaches Of Sociocultural Evolution
Society refers to people who interact in a defined territory and share culture
(Macionis,2012,p.108). They are four major approaches that display ways in which societies
have changed over the past 10,000 years. The first approach was made by Gerhard Lenski who
talked about society in relation to changes concerning technology. Lenski uses the term
sociocultural evolution to describe such changes. Sociocultural evolution is changes that occur as
a society gains very new technology (Macionis,2012,p.88). In the earliest years, societies lived by
hunting and gathering. People made tools to hunt and gather food. Such societies were very petite
so it was easy for them to migrate whenever food was limited. Hunters and gathers spend most of
their time hunting and collecting food for them to satisfy their hunger. They depend on each other
to get their duties done. Women were responsible for vegetation and men went out to hunt. The
young children and elderly help out whenever they could. In most hunting and gathering societies
there is a leader who basically takes control but still has to go out and hunt for food. The basic
weapons used by such societies were spears, bow and arrows and stone knives. These communities
were not really prone to much danger the thing they feared the most was droughts and storms.
Gathering and hunting societies began to decrease as societies became more developed. Along the
way, societies developed horticulture, which is the use of hand tools to

Penokee Hills In Northern Wisconsin
Wisconsin has a long tradition of being at the forefront of environmental protection. From having
pristine national forests, clear water, and tough environmental regulations to keep our forests
pristine and water clear. Now, in the 21st Century, Wisconsin is losing that right due to Wisconsin
Governor Scott Walker. Walker is a big proponent for a mine in the Penokee Hills. The Penokee
Hills are located in Northern Wisconsin, in Iron County, just south of the Bad River Band of Lake
SuperiorOjibwe Reservation. This mine would have been an iron mine, one of the world s largest
open pit mine. The problem with this mine is it would have destroyed most of the Penokee Hills,
the environment around it, and polluted everything around it, including... Show more content on

One consequence on the environment would have been from the pollutants the mine would have
given off. One of these pollutants would be Mercury. In the process of getting iron ore from taconite
pellets, which is what is mined, the taconite must be heated up, one element that is given off
during the heating process is Mercury (WI DNR, 2003, 22 25). When Mercury is in it s gaseous
form, it enters the water cycle and helps form acid rain (WI DNR, 2003). When the acid rain is
released as precipitation, it enters the waterways and pollutes the waters. In the case of Northern
Wisconsin, this acid rain would help pollute the Bad River Watershed, one of the biggest
tributaries of Lake Superior, which would be polluted from the Mercury. Pollution of Lake
Superior would be devastating. Lake Superior is the world s largest freshwater lake and it s water
flows through the Great Lakes, down the St. Lawrence River, and into the Atlantic Ocean, all of
which would be polluted. Also, Lake Superior is a huge source of drinking water for a huge portion
of cities located right on the lake including Ashland and Superior in Wisconsin, Duluth and Cloquet
in Minnesota, Sault St. Marie and Marquette in Minnesota, and Thunder Bay in Canada just to
name a few (Lake by Lake, 2003). Another major pollutant is Sulfate. Sulfate is one of the major
parts of taconite mine runoff. Sulfate does the same as Mercury except it is mixed in the water
right away instead of being in acid rain, though it is a component to acid rain (WI DNR, 2013,
iv). Sulfate directly ran off into watersheds creates more problems than if it were just in acid
rain. In the Bad River Watershed, wild rice is a prominent crop grown in the water for the
Ojibwe. That runoff can form Sulfide, and it has been shown in Minnesota to be toxic to wild
rice, helping destroy a means of income for so many people ( Wild Rice Sulfate, 2014, 5 6).

Lean Supply Chain Is A Catalyst For Enhancing Product...
In a constantly evolving market, companies must maintain the mindset of continuous improvement
and they must focus on speed, efficiency and customer value to be competitive (Cudney Elrod,
2011). Applying lean concepts goes beyond having a better product than competitors; it s the
supply chains ability to create end to end value for the organization and customer. Therefore, for
the supply chain to provide organizational success collaboration with all users is critical because
effective communication can clearly address expectations and align everyone to work towards a
joint goal for mutual success (Jasti Kodali, 2015). Lean supply chain is a catalyst for enhancing

Lean Tools and Techniques
Why Focus on Lean Supply Chain The purpose of supply chain management is to manage the flow
of goods and services from the procurement of raw material to the point of consumption.
Furthermore, it deals with the storing of material, production, and distribution of a product that will
maximize customer value and give a company a competitive advantage of the competition.
Applying lean gives a company the ability to focus on constraints in the system that inhibit efficient
product flow, eliminate waste and improve productivity and quality. For this to be successful its
imperative companies seek to include suppliers, distributors and logistics into the process because
lean requires integration, coordination and collaboration across the organization and throughout the
supply chain (Agus Hajinoor, 2012). As a result of increased transparency, companies will be more
focused on performance and this will create a collective effort to reduce cost by eliminating waste
and increasing productivity. Beyond the efforts to eliminate waste lean looks to incorporate
customer value from the customers perspective. Simply, everything that is being done that ensures
customer satisfaction is a value added step and any activity that fails to achieve customer
satisfaction, which is something their willing to pay for, is a non value added step and should be
eliminated from the process. By simply knowing the process and eliminating

advantageous to use a distinct speaker for listening to low frequency sounds. Subwoofers come in

Coraline
In most fairy tales, there is a quest structure that the protagonist follows through. The typical quest
structure is as followed: an ideal happiness, disruption of the ideal happiness, tasks to reinstate
happiness, and finally the reinstating of happiness. The cycle is never broken. In Neil Gaiman s
Coraline, this quest structure is abandoned. Unlike the typical quest structure, the protagonist,
Coraline, undergoes a coming of age quest in which the quest structure deviates from the typical
structure. Coraline s quest signifies her coming of age when she overcomes what Freud calls her
infantile complexes, which then allows her to break the typical quest structure by abandoning her
childhood and embracing her adulthood. The typical... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The parents are more concerned about work and the house rather than spending time with
Coraline. In response to Coraline s pestering about what she is allowed to do, her mother replies, I
don t really mind what you do...as long as you don t make a mess (6) while her father asks Coraline
to leave me alone to work (7). Throughout the beginning of the story, Coraline is constantly pushed
away and made second to work leaving Coraline alone. This hardly makes for the ideal happiness
that the typical quest structure begins with. Coraline starts off with a less than perfect setting that
the protagonist loathes. Coraline starts off wishing for something else other than her current family,
which contradicts the typical quest where the goal is to return to the ideal happiness the protagonist
possessed in the beginning.
The fact that Coraline starts off with a less than ideal happiness then leads to another deviation
from the typical quest. In the typical quest, there is a disruption to the happiness that leads to
distress and sets the quest arc in motion. In Coraline, the equivalent of the disruption that sets forth
the quest arc is presented as something desired by Coraline. The first couple of interactions with
the other world are something that Coraline had desired in the real world. An example of this is the
parents and the world itself. The other mother and father is the complete of the real mother and

Fate vs Free Will in Julius Caesar by William Shakespeare
The hubris of rich, powerful, or politically connected men creates a false sense of security that
often leads to their fate being a horrific downfall. Julius Caesar by William Shakespeare exposes
the conflicting ideas that exist between fate and free will by showing the relationship between
Caesar, Brutus, and their wives, and how the decisions Cassius makes effect his fate. Conflicting
ideas existed between the spouses and as well as the decisions Cassius make and how they affect
him. Fate gives Brutus a chance to change his decision that he made of his own free will about
killing Caesar by having Portia, who is Brutus s wife, encourage him to change his mind. First,
Portia gives Brutus a sign of fate by revealing that when the men left her house they hid their
faces even from darkness (II, i, 905). Brutus decides to ignore Portia s warning about men who
hide their faces, which is one of the events that leads up to Brutus s, and also Portia s suicidal act
of [swallowing] hot coals , fated suicide (Salem Press). Next, Portia reminds Brutus that she is not
weak because she is well reputed and a woman that Brutus saw fit to marry (II, i, 923). Even
knowing and being sufficiently reminded that Portia is not of lesser intelligence than he is; Brutus
still continues on with his decision to betray Caesar. Also, Portia reminds Brutus that he can trust
her to help him make the right decision and that she will not disclose his secrets to others (II, i,

Salt Pollution On Duckweed
Introduction:
Motivation:
Pollution of our environment is a big issue in today s world. I thought I would focus on one
aspect of this by looking at the effects of salt pollution on duckwed. Hopefully by finding out more
about our effects on the environment we can discover ways to preserve it.
Aim: To find out what effects growing in waters of different salinity will have on the growth of
duckweed.
Hypothesis: The duckweed will show a small growth increase with very low levels of salinity and
then will show a decline in growth rate as the levels of salinity increase.
Planned methodology: Collect a sample pool of duckweed, and measure out an equal amount into 5
different containers. Place an increasing amount of salt into the first 4 containers and no salt in the
5th container as a control. Monitor the growth of the duckweed for 2 weeks.
Methodology
В· Collect samples of duckweed.
В· Prepare 5 beakers with 500 ml of water each.
В· Count 5 duckweed fronds into each beaker.
В· Place 1ml of salt in the first beaker, 2ml in the second, 4 ml in the third, 8ml in the fourth and
none in the fifth.
В· Place each sample into it s own beaker of water and label them according to the amount of salt
in each. Label the beaker with no salt control
В· Place each beaker by a window where they will each get equal amounts of sunlight.
В· monitor the relative growth rate of each sample by measuring the size of each frond compared
to the beginning size. Measure once every two days.
В· Record your results.
Experiment 1
The original experiment was a failure, as the method of measuring duckweed by surface area was
inefficient and inaccurate. The minimum amount of salt (2.5ml) added to the samples, turned out
to be enough to kill all the duckweed, allowing no comparison to be made of the growth rate. In
the second attempt I will count out a smaller, but exact, number of duckweed fronds which will
make counting growth easier and more accurate. I will also use smaller amounts of salt (0.5 1.5 ml)
The duckweed was found to have a very slight growth rate increase with the addition of 1 ml of
salt, (confirming the statement in source 1) however when any more salt was added the duckweed
showed a decline in growth rate, culminating with the

Somatic Marker Hypothesis
Part 1: research justification
Traditionally, decision making has been seen as a purely rational process involving a logical
analysis of the response options and their believed outcomes. However, the somatic marker
hypothesis (SMH) proposes that in situations where outcomes are uncertain, our decisions are
guided by emotion rather than reason. According to this hypothesis, physiological feedback from

The Playing Days Of Lou Gehrig
The Playing Days of Lou Gehrig
Baseball is a poor man s sport, easy to play and addicting to watch. During the days of Lou
Gehrig, whenever there was a baseball game, people usually forgot their worries that day and
went to watch their heroes play. 1n 1917, the Americans declared war on Germany. Even in
America s ballparks, German immigrants sought to distance themselves from their native land
(Eig, 19). In a world of insecurity caused by the jeopardy of war and an ongoing economic
depression, Lou Gehrig signified a show of pride and confidence until Amyotrophic Lateral
Sclerosis put an abrupt end to his playing days. When it comes to baseball, there have been a few
high caliber players who become American icons. Lou Gehrig became that icon of the era in which
he thrived. While he spent much of his career in the shadow of his mentor and teammate Babe Ruth,
Lou Gehrig would eventually emerge from Ruth s shadow and represent the values of the 1930
s. During Lou Gehrig s era baseball served as a distraction from the adversity of the world war
and the depression. In the 1920s, America ended World War I with a bodacious force not to be
ignored with. The Roaring Twenties, was an era when America accomplished immense economic
development. The stock market soared as the citizens of the United States hastily purchased goods
on credit. As a result of the admirable twentieth century, hours were lower and wages were higher.

Essay on OZONE DEPLETION BY HUMAN’S ACTIONS
OZONE DEPLETION BY HUMAN S ACTIONS
The ozone layer is a very important component in the atmosphere. Ozone is not the same as the
oxygen humans breathe. There is very little of this gas in the atmosphere. First off, let s begin
with a definition of the ozone layer. Ozone is a hot, slightly bluish gas. It is a molecule made up of
three oxygen atoms, which are very similar to the molecule we are familiar with (O2), the molecule
needed for human respiration. Despite the major smog problem, about 90 percent of Earth s ozone
are actually in the stratosphere, a layer of the atmosphere far above the Earth s surface. It lies
above the troposhere, the miles thick lower layer where air is densest and where most weather
occurs. So, it is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If ozone did not act to filter a great deal of the ultra violet radiation and if the rays were allowed to
reach the surface of the Earth, then our planet would be uninhabitable for life (Lutgens3). Ozone
depletion and over exposure to enhanced UV B radiation can lead to deadly melanoma skin
cancer, increased eye cataracts, and damages to the near surface oceanic phytoplankton, which is
the basis of the food chain. The natural depletion of the stratospheric ozone chemistry cycle has
been severely interrupted by ozone depletion associated with the decay of chlorofluorocarbons (
Links 4). These are contained in a wide range of products, including aerosol sprays and refrigerants
and insulating foam packaging.
Ozone concentrations are measured by a Dobson spectrophotometer and satellite based
instruments and results from these measurements show a decrease in stratospheric ozone levels of
about 1 percent per year since 1979. Studies show that every 1 percent decrease in ozone should
produce a 2 percent increase in UV B radiation, and a 4 percent increase in skin cancer
(Thompson5).
Recently in the Arctic, the presence of significant CIO in the stratosphere has been established
(Thompson 6). This shows the process of ozone destruction in the Arctic. In this case, the ozone
level in the Arctic also decreases. The frequency of this is not known. There may be a relationship
between large volcanic eruptions and even greater loss

Essay On The Battle Of The Bulge
Battle of the Bulge By the time World War II ended, numerous battles were won and lost by both
sides. Millions of soldiers were killed defending their countries. One of the most famous battles
was the Battle of the Bulge. The result of this battle would all but end any hope for Adolf Hitler
to win World War II. The essay will cover the events leading up to the Battle of the Bulge, how
this battle was fought, the casualties, and what happened after this battle was over. This will
give a better understanding, some expertise, and awareness of how important this battle was to
the Allied forces. The Battle of the Bulge is said to be Adolf Hitler s final, desperate gamble of
the war (Battle of the Bulge Timeline (December 16th, 1944 January 25th, 1945), n.d.). This was
because by this time in World War II, Adolf Hitler was running low on supplies. Knowing that
this war could end for him soon, he made a frantic effort to try and win the war. Since he was
low on supplies his goal was to reach the post city of Antwerp and disrupt the Allied front and
their much needed supply lines along the way (Battle of the Bulge Timeline (December 16th,
1944 January 25th, 1945), n.d.). This was an important battle that needed to be won, and it is said
to be the largest and perhaps the most savage land battle fought by the Americans in World War
Two (The Battle of the Bulge: Hitler s Final Gamble, 2005). This battle started on December 16,

Abusive Relationships In The Movie
Yearly, referrals to state child protective services involve 6.6 million children, and around 3.2
million of those children are subject to an investigated report, (). This staggering statistic illustrates
the reality of abuse in the real world. Abuse is a wide spanning idea, and it manages to manifest
itself in several different forms. Throughout Damien Chazelle s 2014 film, Whiplash, the main
character trudges through a psychologically abusive relationship with the film s antagonist. Three

about the abusive relationship between the two. Fletcher uses this situation as a final instance of
abuse against Andrew despite his intentions being seemingly genuine at their meeting in the music

Microsoft Acquires Nokia
INTRODUCTION
Microsoft is to acquire Nokia s mobile phone arm in a swansong deal for the software giant s long
serving chief executive, Steve Ballmer, delivering Europe s last big handset maker into American
ownership.
For €5.44bn (£4.6bn), Nokia is casting off the business that once represented Finland s most
important export, in a deal that will result in 32,000 staff transferring to Microsoft.
Overtaken in the smartphone arena by Apple and Samsung, Nokia s board agreed to end the
company s decades long role as a pioneer and once dominant player in one of the most revolutionary
technologies in modern history.

the US and China, the world s two largest smartphone markets, according to Kantar World panel s

company s figures.
According to the article, Under the deal, Microsoft is buying the Lumia and Asha brand names
that Nokia has used for its smart and intermediate phones. It has licensed the use of the Nokia
brand on handsets for 10 years, but the Finnish business will retain ownership of the brand. That
will probably mean that the Nokia brand disappearing from handsets in the next decade, ending

Having started in 1865 with a pulp mill in the Finnish town of Tampere, Nokia reinvented itself
repeatedly, shifting to rubber boot production early in the 20th century, and then making its first
telephone exchange in the 1970s. Its first mobile phone appeared in 1981.
Rumours that Microsoft intended to buy Nokia had been floated since Elop joined the company.
Reaction to the deal was mixed.
Microsoft buying Nokia looks like doubling down on the current failing strategy, without changing
the dynamics that are preventing success, cautioned Benedict Evans at Enders Analysis.
Ben Wood at CCS Insight described the deal as a bold, but entirely necessary gamble by Microsoft .

Lust In Dante s Inferno
Incontinence plays a strong role in determine who is stuck in the storm of lust. As they travel

storm and the sinners are people who have lust over another person body. He realizes that their
punishment fits them. In the second circle of hell, Dante and Virgilwitness the power and cruelty of
lust. Dante describes this as a great raging storm with sinners caught up in it, almost floating and
never with the ones they want. Dante writes, I came to a place where no light shone at all,
bellowing like the sea racked by a tempest, when warring winds attack it from both sides. The
infernal storm, eternal in its rage, sweeps and drives the spirits with its blast: it whirls them,
lashing them with punishment (407, 28 33). The frequent use of nature elements in his description
of this place point to a very base or primal feeling, untamed by man. The visual imagery relates to

Who Is The Jerk In The Scarlet Letter
Hawthorne s Arthur Dimmesdale and Roger Chillingworth have never been characters free of
controversial discourse in the 19th century Romantic novel, The Scarlet Letter. The topic on which
of the two characters is the bigger jerk often leaves readers scratching their heads. After all, both
characters extensively worry about themselves while pursuing self satisfaction, at the expense of
Hester Prynne, in particular. However, there are a handful of individuals that believe that
Chillingworth s intellectual superiority and manipulative plans conveniently label him as a jerk.
But, the only label of jerk that can be applied to him is that of an emotionally insecure jerk.

However, it is true that he plays a role in the sufferings of Hester and Dimmesdale. But what or
who made Chillingworth transform from a man thoughtful of others, craving little for himself into
the devilish he is known to be (156)? That of course is no other than Dimmesdale. After all,
Dimmesdale was the man that slept with his wife during his absence. And the fact that
Dimmesdale made Hester promise to conceal his identity only further provoked Chillingworth. He
lived by the vow: Dimmesdale shall be mine (68). It was this newfound obsession on revenge that
made his dark complexion grow duskier and his figure more misshapen (101). Furthermore, when
Hester asks him why he does not torture her, he responds, I have left thee to the scarlet letter (156).
Chillingworth acknowledges the pain the scarlet letter inflicts to Hester. Dimmesdale, however,
constantly believes that his own suffering is greater than the pain associated with the letter, making
him both stubborn and heartless. Although Chillingworth aches for the misery of others,
Dimmesdale s self obsession, selfishness, and self pity causes more damage to others than all of the
manipulative plans of Chillingworth combined. Without a doubt, Arthur Dimmesdale is the biggest
schmuck in 19th century

Theme Of Metaphors In Richard 2
Dan Pham
Pro. James Jesson
HON 111 04
01 December 2017
Essay 2
Shakespeare s impressive use of metaphor, simile, or image in Richard II makes it become one of
the greatest English work in the world literature. Among these rhetorical effects, the metaphor is all
over the place in the work. However, the type of metaphor considered to be one of the most
significant during Richard II is the gardening metaphor. The garden scene, which is from Act 3,
scene 4 of the play, has successfully provided the perspective of a subject a gardener about the
kingdom at present and the sound, reasonable nature of the overthrown.
The garden scene starts by the instruction that the gardener gives to his serving man.
Go, bind thou up yon dangling apricokes,
Which, like unruly children, make their sire
Stoop with oppression of their prodigal weight:
Give some supportance to the bending twigs. (3.4.32 5)
In this passage, the tree refers to England. The current condition of the tree is bad, as their fruits
the apricokes stoop with oppression of their prodigal weight . The apricokes here may imply
Richard s bad ruling of England. The word prodigal is such a wise word choice, as it not only
literally describes the weight of apricokes, but also may emphasize Richard s spendthrift lifestyle.
Through the gardener s guidance of how to take care of the tree, he criticizes Richard s poor
reigning and expresses his grief for the country s state.
Go thou, and like an executioner,
Cut off the heads of too fast growing sprays,
That look too lofty in our commonwealth:
All must be even in our government.
You thus employed, I will go root away
The noisome weeds, which without profit suck
The soil s fertility from wholesome flowers. (3.4.36 42)
At the beginning of this passage, the gardener appears to regard the fast growing sprays to
Richard himself, as he describes the sprays to be too lofty in our commonwealth . After seeing
England under Richard s reign, the gardener wishes to take actions to bring fairness to the country.
However, in the rest of the passage, the gardener does not seem to mention Richard, but his
worthless followers the noisome weeds who do not help him to rule the country but use him for
their greediness. The

Commonly found in developed countries, nations usually have long life expectancies, stable
governments, and quality health support. One example of this is the United States of America
(shown right).
Next, there is Declining Growth, in which a country s pyramid is shaped much like a diamond. The
middle section bulges the most in terms of population, and youth as well as elderly are in lower
numbers. Nations with negative growth population most likely have birth rates that are too low.
Nevertheless, these countries are often developed and posses long life expectancy, balanced, secure
government systems, and quality health care. Japan is a clear example of being in this state (shown
left).
Finally, Rapid Growth is the third and most typical form of a population graph. Iraq expresses
this structure and stage of demographic transition, in which a large base become less wide as you
increase the age range. Normally, Rapid Growth populations point to poor conditions, poor health
care, and low life expectancy. It also is linked with developing, or underdeveloped nations.
For this reason, from Iraq s population pyramid I would instantly assume that Iraq is currently
undergoing stages of a developing country or not yet forming country. This is because the high birth
rate and low life expectancy are probably outcomes of the country s underdevelopment as they are

Global Financial Crisis And Its Impact On Economic Policy...
Financialisation is the process in which financial institutions/markets increase in size and gain
greater influence over economic policy and outcomes (Palley, 2007).Another link to
financialisation is high degree of leverage. This is because with leverage, you can get a loan for
9/10s of the money, so you only need a small portion, and you are able to make lots of profit.
Leverage is linked to financialisation in a sense that if it works, you get lots of profit with a
working system, however if it doesn t work, then you can lose lots of money, and in high
degrees of leverage, you can be losing lots of money by the investment not working out, and
someone then has to pay off the loaned money. In this essay, I will be analysing whether or not
financialisation was the main cause of the 2008 global financial crisis, or if there were other
factors involved in the great recession. I will be arguing that financialisation was a cause of the
crash, but because it was aided by other factors, it is not the sole reason behind the collapse. The
points that I will be making in my argument will be in relation to the financial crisis in the context
of financialisation, talking about market deregulation and subprime mortgages. The second point
that I will make will be about the greed of the CEOs on Wall Street, and their irresponsibility when
it comes to the money of others. The final point that I will be making will be about the
irresponsibility on behalf of the regulators, and how they

[ SQL Injection Attacks, Prevention Techniques, and Why It Matters]
SQL injection attacks pose a serious security threat and it has become a predominant type of attacks
that target web applications utilizing the backend databases. It allows attackers to obtain
unauthorized access to the database and retrieve potentially sensitive information. These attacks are
launched through specially crafted input to trick the database into executing any SQL queries. In
this paper I will present a review of different types of SQL injection and how they could be
performed. I will also analyze some of prevention techniques available to mitigate the SQL injection
attacks. Finally, I will discuss why it is very important and needs considerable attention.

Introduction
SQL is common language used to manipulate data in database. It is the backbone of almost all of
the web applications. When we enter any information such as login details or do online shopping it
creates a SQL query and executed at the backend database. The login query when executed validates

The Wagner Act Essays
In 1934, the Wagner Act was first introduced, also called the National Labor Relations Act
(NLRB), it promised to ensure a wise distribution of wealth between management and labor, to
maintain a full flow of purchasing power, and to prevent recurrent depressions. (Babson, p. 85)
During the mid 1930 s organized labor and the United States Government struck a deal. It was the
time of Franklin D. Roosevelt. A volatile time, the country was attempting to recover from a
depression, unemployment was at an all time high and organized labor was struggling for its own
existence. Vast numbers of the unemployed are right on the edge, observed Lorent Hickock, a
Pennsylvania reporter hired by the federal government to report on social... Show more content on

With no relief in sight, society had nothing to lose and everything to gain by fighting back. Workers
saw that businesses and businessmen continued to get rich and mover further ahead in life, while
the working class began to fall further down the economic ladder with little or no hope of
advancement within society. The solidarity amongst the unemployed is a key factor which cannot
be ignored by historians and scholars, and that impetus could have propelled labor forward. For the
first time, America had seen mass demonstrations across the country centering on a central issue,
unemployment. Unemployment councils were prevalent within many of the major metropolitan
centers across the country, and they became the proponent for the wize of the American worker.
Numerous rallies and demonstrations were staged by those councils, and when it came to the issue
of unemployment there were no perceived boundaries amongst citizens based on ethnicity, race or
religion. The barriers which had stymied the growth of the labor movement had temporarily
disappeared. However, as powerful as these councils could have been, there was no co ordination
amongst the various centers in relation to the public protest. Communities and individuals were
becoming mobilized and they too began to learn the importance of being organized and working
together collectively and disregarding any self imposed barriers along the lines

Bilingualism And Bilingualism
According to a 2006 European Commission survey, 56% of respondents said they could speak a
language other than their mother tongue. In many countries, the proportion of bilinguals is much
higher. For example, 99% of Luxembourg and 95% of Latvian populations speak more than one
language. Even in the United States, where English is pre dominantly used as a single language, a
large number of people using non English languages at home have increased by 140% since 1980.
Thus, bilingualism is an extensive cultural, linguistic, and cognitive phenomenon that is extensively
carried out in modern society. Bilingualism bridges the understanding of the world around us,
communicating with others, promoting the sharing of cultural phenomena. Many... Show more

In many studies, bilingual learners brain can have better attentiveness and the ability to switch tasks
than a mono lingual learner s brain because of their cognitive ability to control to suppress one
language while using another language or switch from one language to another language
simultaneously. Bilingualism also positively affects learners academic progress (Saer, D. J. 1923).
Moreover, studies on bilingual language processing have shown that when bilingual speakers,
listen to, read, or produce sentences, linguistic competency in both languages is activated, even
when the speaker uses one language (Kroll, J. F., Bobb, S. C., Hoshino, N. (2014). This cross
language activation can be detected in both beginners and highly skilled bilinguals and can be
found at various levels of language processing system, such as lexicon, phonology, and grammar. In
particular, cognitive research on bilingualism suggests that a bilingual speaker s second language,
which is not used in word recognition and language production, is being suppressed and the
language that tends to be self controlled is the native language of the speaker, not the second
foreign language, implying that the native language is indeed compromised to accommodate the
second language. The control system used to cognitively prohibit and switch languages is a control
system commonly used for

Charter Schools Are The Best Schools
Charter schools offer much more than public schools do, like smaller classrooms and extended
one on one time. Charter schools are independent entities that have received a charter, which is a
set of self written rules (and promises) about how the school will be structured and run (Pascual,
2016, The Truth About Charter Schools). This means that they have their own rules that work for
the children and meet their individual needs. The schools could change the rules, as generations
change, to accommodate different students. With the unity and numbers of millennials, charter
schools could be known as the best type of schools for students to succeed in future colleges and
jobs. In my essay I will back up Cahn and Cahns prediction that millennials have what it takes to
make it well known that charter schools are the best schools. Extending on the main claim that
charter schools are the best schools is David and Jack Cahns book, When Millennials Rule: The
Reshaping of America. In their chapter Better Schools: Investing in our future, they are trying to
enlighten political campaign organizers about the millennials future actions and beliefs. David and
Jack Cahn are millennial activists and journalists whose book was publicized by Post Hills Press
in 2014. Their whole book covers present day events like running presidents and problems with
debt, school reform, and the controversy on legalizing of Marijuana. Just recently some of theses
events changed from present to

Rich And Poor Book Report
In The Politics of the Rich and Poor Phillips claims that the policies implemented during
President Regan s 1980 and 1984 terms enlarged the gap between the rich and the poor in which
the rich got richer and the poor got poorer. Phillips states this book is about the redistribution of
power and wealth during the 1980 s: who got it, who lost it and through what policies (Phillips
1990). Phillips the uses the rest of the book the explain just that.
Phillips discusses the laissez faire policies put into place during the Regan terms to support his
claims. Laissez faire refers to political policies in which the government has little involvement. He
talks greatly about three policies that exemplify his claim: deregulation, tax cuts and globalization.

Vanishing Point Rab
The poem s title is Vanishing Point by Lawrence Raab, which generally speaks of life s journey
and the aspirations each one of us has for him or herself. The title of the poem describes the
perspective of life. At the vanishing point, distant objects seem to be little and parallel lines
appear to converge. This is the point of confusion whereby a person s beliefs about the purpose of
life appear void. At this point, a person is no longer sure whether purpose and destiny matter.
The speaker is analyzing the walk of life, the hopes and dreams that each one has concerning their
own life and their relationship to elapsing time. A person finds him or herself on a journey. The
irony of this journey is that it was destined by someone else and not ... Show more content on

It is not possible to tell whether the life of a person will be successful or not. For this reason,
people live in anxiety and the fear of the unknown. The speaker says that this walk is personal and
everything else does not matter. Besides, he describes that the direction where the road is leading
has hardships. He uses the poetry style of symbolism to metaphorize the concept of destiny. Did
you really think you were just out for an aimless stroll? by this question, the speaker implies that
the direction of the journey is of person s own making. The person decides which direction he or
he wants to go. However, in the end, the choice pf direction will matter.
The speaker discourages the readers against placing too much focus on the problem. In his poem, he
stipulates that a long focus on the horizon s mountains makes them seem too impossible to
overcome. And those mountains on the horizon: the longer you look, the more forbidding they
become, bleak and self important

Dying Star Research Paper
If you ve ever wondered what a dying star looks like right when it s about to bite the dust,
wonder no more: NASA has just released an image taken by its Hubble Space Telescope which
reveals the bright star known as Herschel 36 in its final death throes, a process that the agency says
generally takes tens of thousands of years.
What Does a Dying Star Look Like?
The picture posted by NASA shows Herschel 36 surrounded by a gas cloud that left its core
exposed for the photograph. Emanating from the gas cloud are radiant wisps of orange and blue
hues, creating a truly spectacular sight. These colors are the result of ultraviolet light powering the
gas cloud that surrounds the dying star, and match the colors seen within the Ring Nebula. Because

Religion Vs. Self-interest in Robinson Crusoe, by Daniel...
This paper is an attempt to examine the seeming opposition of religion vs. self interest with
respect to the character of Robinson Crusoe. I will venture to demonstrate that in the novel,
Defoe illustrates the contradictions with which Crusoe must contend as he strives to please God
while ensuring his own survival in the world. In part, I will endeavor to show that a distorted
sense of Puritanism as well as the existing colonial mindset exacerbated this opposition, and
resulted in what I propose to be Defoe s (possibly retroactive) imposition of a religious
justification for Crusoe s actions. Crusoe s journey in the canoe exemplifies the reality of his life in
that, although he longs to please and obey God, he must also contend... Show more content on

In this instance, therefore, it is shown that the ideal relationship with God contradicts his
instinct. In a way, the journey in the canoe in itself contradicts the idea of providence. The
purpose of the journey for Crusoe was to obtain more knowledge. Prior to this journey, however,
he states Thus I liv d mighty comfortably, my mind being entirely composed by resigning to the
will of God, and throwing myself wholly upon the disposal of his Providence. (108) Very shortly
after this declaration of his submission to Providence, when referring to his exploration of the
island on foot, Crusoe says that the discoveries I made in that little journey, made me very eager
to see other parts of the coast; and now I had a boat, I thought of nothing but sailing round the
island. (109) As illustrated by the canoe journey, Defoe shows us that Crusoe s longing for
knowledge, and for more than what God s Providence has provided him, almost costs him his
life. Crusoe s island, like the Garden of Eden, provides for all his needs. He has complete
dominion over this island and all of its inhabitants; yet, he still longs to know the other parts of
the island. Like Adam, after his search for knowledge, Crusoe sleeps on the hard cold ground
being quite spent with the Labor and Fatigue of the Voyage. (Note that before the fall of man,
labor was not a source of fatigue.) Here Defoe reminds us that God punishes man who is not

The Anglo-Saxon Archetype Of Beowulf As An Epic Hero
BeaHero An epic hero is a brave and noble character in an epic poem, admired for great
achievements or affected by grand events. The epic hero of a story embarks on a quest in search
of fame and glory, and encounters challenges throughout their journey. No matter the adversity, the
epic hero maintains bravery and courage, never backing down. However, what the epic hero does
not know is that the real reason for a quest is always self knowledge (Foster 3). In the epic Beowulf,
Anonymous employes the affection of a king, bravery in battle, an eternal quest and a lasting
legacy to show Beowulf as an epic hero. Beowulf embodies the Anglo Saxon archetype of an
epic hero. A key moment in the epic is when king Hrothgar welcomes Beowulf to his kingdom
and says But to table, Beowulf, a banquet in your honor:/Let us toast your victories, and talk of
the future (ll. 223 224). Here it is shown that even a king is acknowledging Beowulf s bravery
and is throwing him a feast, one of the highest honors a king could bestow upon anyone, showing
Hrothgar s great admiration for Beowulf. During the feast Unferth questions Beowulf s honor but
is shown to be a coward himself when Beowulf refutes his claims and inspires king Hrothgar with
a speech: The Geats will show him courage, soon/He can test his strength in battle. And when the
sun/Comes up again, opening another/Bright day from the south, anyone in Denmark will be able
to enter Herot (ll. 332 342). Much like they typical Anglo Saxon

Analysis Of Without Title By Diane Glancy
Culture is a defining thing in every person s life, and affects them and how they perceive the
world. In the poem Without Title, the theme is that leaving behind one s former way of life,
culture, and family can lead to the loss of joy, identity, and joy in culture. In this poem by Diane
Glancy, it has different ways of showing this loss of culture and identity. Without Title uses a lot of
figurative language to show this. Line 14 says, I remember the animal tracks of the car, . This
shows how the author knows the cultureshe used to have and recognizes that it is gone and there is
no true part of her culture now. She calls car tracks, animal tracks, which is something she would
have seen if she had gotten to stay with her people and family. These all have a wistful longing
feel in the poem, one of sadness. In the final part of the poem it says, The red buffalo painted on
his chest. Oh, I couldn t see it but it was there, This can be a representation of the author s father
s lost culture, how he still has it be he is not allowed to show it at all, so he just keeps it to
himself. In both it shows all the father and the author have left of their culture, their memories, and
physical reminders. It shows a loss of identity, and that they both miss it. When the author says her
father, brought home horns and hides, it can also be representing any piece of his former culture
that he tried to bring back into the home, but his wife says to get rid of them. The wife could say

According to Channel Newsasia on 24th February 2016 in the report of Malaysia January
inflation rate rises, but rates seen on hold , and proven again by lately news on 25th Macrch
2016 from The Star online Higher food prices push February inflation above forecast , both of
the news are expecting the inflation rate of Malaysia will increase in 2016. We are adopting the
news as our fundamental analysis to the futures trading to predict the effect of macroeconomic
variable which is inflation that could affect the stock price movement in April. As we can read
from the news, Malaysia s inflation rate rose at a faster than expected pace of 4.2% in Febraury
from a year ago following higher food prices and a jump in alcoholic beverages and tobacco.
Moreover, the Statistics Department also proposed that the Consumer Price Index (CPI) for
February rose by 4.2% to 114.5 compared with 109.9 a year ago. Economists had forecast a
4.1% increase. As we know, CPI is proxy as inflation. CPI is the benchmark inflation and it uses
a basket of goods approach that aims to compare a consistent base of products from year to year,
focusing on products that are bought and used by consumers on a daily basis. The price of your
milk, eggs, and daily essential are all captured in the CPI. So, based on our analysis that rely on
news that release to the public from January to March, we should alert to the macroeconomic
changes that could give a huge impact to KLCI price movement. Basically, the

Cesar Chavez History
The History of Political and Educational Walkouts
Cesar Chavez (otherwise known as C.C) sought to change the world. In fact, he started a
movement now recognized as the Cesar Chaves Chicano Movement. In 1947 he ended
segregation in the movie theater of his small town by sitting in the middle, an area previously
reserved for Caucasians. He was arrested, yet it was not a crime so nothing could be done and
overnight things changed. And yet his mission was not done. In fact, according to the movie, in the
60 s he was the most significant Mexican American leader of the generation. Yet, surprisingly he
had a rough history. He never advanced past the 8th grade, yet his sights were always on justice and
equality. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A hatred of dark skin was bred into America. However Chavez defied that norm. 130,000
Mexicans were attending L.A. schools yet the graduation rate was embarrassingly low. The
Mexicans were not allowed in academic programs or other extracurricular programs which lead to a
strike. Castro, a history teacher, was motivated to change racism. The movement wanted to
accomplish equality. The Spanish language would earn a child a beating at school and many
Mexicans were deemed unintelligent and led into vocational programs rather than educational
pursuits. Not only were the Hispanics discouraged from college, discriminated, and encouraged to
drop out, less than 1 in 1000 obtained a degree. However, what Chavez was able to do for workers
rights movements, Sal Castro began to do for education. He started filling his students with passion
and organized a student strike. The students were captivated to fight for their rights. The Latinos
had had enough and at 10:00am the doors opened and the students rushed out, quickly drawing
national attention by marching. I can only imagine the spectacle: over 1,000 students began their
protest, thus causing race riots. However, the fearful police entered and attempted to control the
crowed. After a week of protests, the demands were met: more Hispanic and Latino teachers,
bilingual instructors, and equal learning opportunities. The Chicanos, as

  • 2. Benefits Of Abstinence Of Bringing Sex Education Bringing Sex Education in Schools The US teen pregnancy rate is at 72.2%, which is larger than any rate in Western European countries. Sex education can solve the problem that we see, and possibly lower that rate. It can benefit kids by informing them about everything involving sex instead of sheltering them from the truth. Abstinence only education is the other option that is typically used, but creating a program to cover everything and not exclude some children who have different beliefs is the overall goal. This program should be offered for all students as a mandatory course because of the amount of information that is to be gained by teaching about sex, relationships, protection, STD s, and sexual orientation. • 3. Current State Of Fuel And World Energy Demand Current State of fuel World Energy Demand Post 18th Century Industrial revolution has created a dependency on fossil fuels such as coal, oil and natural gas for all technological and transportation demands that engineer modern society. However. Such demands, and even their expected future demands threatens the overall worlds energy supply and generates large strains on the environment. The Hydrogen economy article published by Physics Today in December 2004 anticipated that the world energy demand will double by 2050 in response to population growth and industrialisation of developing countries. (Crabtree, Dresselhaus and Buchanan, 2004). An article by Todd Woody of The Atlantic (Woody, 2013) has stated that developing countries will account for 65% of the world s energy consumption by 2040. The majority of such consumption being produced by non OCED nations such as India and China. This figure was published by the United States Energy Information Administration. This can be summarised as a 2.2% annual increase in fossil fuel usage in non OCED countries compared to that of 0.5% in OCED communities such as some of the EU, North America and Australia. Figure 1.1 iProjected world energy consumption (Eia.gov, 2013) Further study has shown that due to this increased demand for fossil fuels, the Global Carbon Project showed a 2.1% increase in greenhouse gas emissions in 2012. Tulane has strong history, theatre, and dance departments. It is important to me that I go to a university where I can receive the best possible education in the areas that interest me. I am also interested in Tulane because it is a school where it is very easy to double major and minor. I have a lot of interests, and I think collegeis the time for me to explore them. The admissions counselor I spoke with told me that 70% of Tulane students have a minor, 33% have a double major, and some students even have a triple major. I think this also shows that Tulane is the type of school that attracts ambitious students with a variety of interests. Additionally, I like that the core curriculum at Tulane allows students to investigate different areas of interests and to possibly find a new direction for themselves. The admissions counselor I spoke to also discussed that around 1/3 of Tulane students study abroad. This appeals to me because I would like to be able to go study theatre in Europe. Furthermore, I have been studying Spanish for over seven years, so I am interested in study abroad in Spain where I could be completely immersed in the language.... It is about the great social pressures faced by the narrator, surrounding the chronological events that take place before, during and after a school dance. The Red dress is the dress her mother makes her for the dance, when she would clearly like to buy one instead from a store, this suggests to us that she can not afford readymade clothes which then leads us to presume she is of a lower socio economic class. • 8. The Four Major Approaches Of Sociocultural Evolution Society refers to people who interact in a defined territory and share culture (Macionis,2012,p.108). They are four major approaches that display ways in which societies have changed over the past 10,000 years. The first approach was made by Gerhard Lenski who talked about society in relation to changes concerning technology. Lenski uses the term sociocultural evolution to describe such changes. Sociocultural evolution is changes that occur as a society gains very new technology (Macionis,2012,p.88). In the earliest years, societies lived by hunting and gathering. People made tools to hunt and gather food. Such societies were very petite so it was easy for them to migrate whenever food was limited. Hunters and gathers spend most of their time hunting and collecting food for them to satisfy their hunger. They depend on each other to get their duties done. Women were responsible for vegetation and men went out to hunt. The young children and elderly help out whenever they could. In most hunting and gathering societies there is a leader who basically takes control but still has to go out and hunt for food. The basic weapons used by such societies were spears, bow and arrows and stone knives. These communities were not really prone to much danger the thing they feared the most was droughts and storms. Gathering and hunting societies began to decrease as societies became more developed. Along the way, societies developed horticulture, which is the use of hand tools to ... From having pristine national forests, clear water, and tough environmental regulations to keep our forests pristine and water clear. Now, in the 21st Century, Wisconsin is losing that right due to Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker. Walker is a big proponent for a mine in the Penokee Hills. The Penokee Hills are located in Northern Wisconsin, in Iron County, just south of the Bad River Band of Lake SuperiorOjibwe Reservation. This mine would have been an iron mine, one of the world s largest open pit mine. One consequence on the environment would have been from the pollutants the mine would have given off. One of these pollutants would be Mercury. In the process of getting iron ore from taconite pellets, which is what is mined, the taconite must be heated up, one element that is given off during the heating process is Mercury (WI DNR, 2003, 22 25). When Mercury is in it s gaseous form, it enters the water cycle and helps form acid rain (WI DNR, 2003). When the acid rain is released as precipitation, it enters the waterways and pollutes the waters. In the case of Northern Wisconsin, this acid rain would help pollute the Bad River Watershed, one of the biggest tributaries of Lake Superior, which would be polluted from the Mercury. Pollution of Lake Superior would be devastating. Lake Superior is the world s largest freshwater lake and it s water flows through the Great Lakes, down the St. Lawrence River, and into the Atlantic Ocean, all of which would be polluted. Also, Lake Superior is a huge source of drinking water for a huge portion of cities located right on the lake including Ashland and Superior in Wisconsin, Duluth and Cloquet in Minnesota, Sault St. Marie and Marquette in Minnesota, and Thunder Bay in Canada just to name a few (Lake by Lake, 2003). Another major pollutant is Sulfate. Sulfate is one of the major parts of taconite mine runoff. Sulfate does the same as Mercury except it is mixed in the water right away instead of being in acid rain, though it is a component to acid rain (WI DNR, 2013, iv). Sulfate directly ran off into watersheds creates more problems than if it were just in acid rain. In the Bad River Watershed, wild rice is a prominent crop grown in the water for the Ojibwe. That runoff can form Sulfide, and it has been shown in Minnesota to be toxic to wild rice, helping destroy a means of income for so many people ( Wild Rice Sulfate, 2014, 5 6). ... In a constantly evolving market, companies must maintain the mindset of continuous improvement and they must focus on speed, efficiency and customer value to be competitive (Cudney Elrod, 2011). Applying lean concepts goes beyond having a better product than competitors; it s the supply chains ability to create end to end value for the organization and customer. Therefore, for the supply chain to provide organizational success collaboration with all users is critical because effective communication can clearly address expectations and align everyone to work towards a joint goal for mutual success (Jasti Kodali, 2015). Lean Tools and Techniques Why Focus on Lean Supply Chain The purpose of supply chain management is to manage the flow of goods and services from the procurement of raw material to the point of consumption. Furthermore, it deals with the storing of material, production, and distribution of a product that will maximize customer value and give a company a competitive advantage of the competition. Applying lean gives a company the ability to focus on constraints in the system that inhibit efficient product flow, eliminate waste and improve productivity and quality. For this to be successful its imperative companies seek to include suppliers, distributors and logistics into the process because lean requires integration, coordination and collaboration across the organization and throughout the supply chain (Agus Hajinoor, 2012). As a result of increased transparency, companies will be more focused on performance and this will create a collective effort to reduce cost by eliminating waste and increasing productivity. Beyond the efforts to eliminate waste lean looks to incorporate customer value from the customers perspective. Simply, everything that is being done that ensures customer satisfaction is a value added step and any activity that fails to achieve customer satisfaction, which is something their willing to pay for, is a non value added step and should be eliminated from the process. The typical quest structure is as followed: an ideal happiness, disruption of the ideal happiness, tasks to reinstate happiness, and finally the reinstating of happiness. The cycle is never broken. In Neil Gaiman s Coraline, this quest structure is abandoned. Unlike the typical quest structure, the protagonist, Coraline, undergoes a coming of age quest in which the quest structure deviates from the typical structure. Coraline s quest signifies her coming of age when she overcomes what Freud calls her infantile complexes, which then allows her to break the typical quest structure by abandoning her childhood and embracing her adulthood. In response to Coraline s pestering about what she is allowed to do, her mother replies, I don t really mind what you do...as long as you don t make a mess (6) while her father asks Coraline to leave me alone to work (7). Throughout the beginning of the story, Coraline is constantly pushed away and made second to work leaving Coraline alone. This hardly makes for the ideal happiness that the typical quest structure begins with. Coraline starts off with a less than perfect setting that the protagonist loathes. Coraline starts off wishing for something else other than her current family, which contradicts the typical quest where the goal is to return to the ideal happiness the protagonist possessed in the beginning. The fact that Coraline starts off with a less than ideal happiness then leads to another deviation from the typical quest. In the typical quest, there is a disruption to the happiness that leads to distress and sets the quest arc in motion. In Coraline, the equivalent of the disruption that sets forth the quest arc is presented as something desired by Coraline. Fate vs Free Will in Julius Caesar by William Shakespeare The hubris of rich, powerful, or politically connected men creates a false sense of security that often leads to their fate being a horrific downfall. Conflicting ideas existed between the spouses and as well as the decisions Cassius make and how they affect him. Fate gives Brutus a chance to change his decision that he made of his own free will about killing Caesar by having Portia, who is Brutus s wife, encourage him to change his mind. First, Portia gives Brutus a sign of fate by revealing that when the men left her house they hid their faces even from darkness (II, i, 905). I believe that we must fundamentally change our understanding what Islamic terror is if we are to have any hope of effectively opposing it. Current institutional dialectics and policy focus on the political and strategic aspirations of terrorist groups, as well as the tactical methods they employ to accomplish their goals. I suggest to you that existing counter terrorismpolices are pursuing superficial material aims. We are attempting to destroy terrorist groups, institutions, and individuals. Qutb believed that contemporary states were morally bankrupt and that Islam served as a comprehensive system of governance. In defining what constitutes sharia, Qutb turned to Wahhab and his literal textual interpretation of Islam predicated on the Quran and Hadith. Qutb also posited the notion of a defensive and lesser Jihad to actualize this return to an original Islamic community. Qutb cited and expanded upon Taymiyyah domains of the world concept. Qutb believes that Muslim governments that did not strictly adhere to Islamic law were inexcusable and a threat to the Umma. Consequently it was necessary to engage in revolutionary Jihad against apostate governments in order to protect the Umma. • 19. Salt Pollution On Duckweed Introduction: Motivation: Pollution of our environment is a big issue in today s world. I thought I would focus on one aspect of this by looking at the effects of salt pollution on duckwed. Hopefully by finding out more about our effects on the environment we can discover ways to preserve it. Aim: To find out what effects growing in waters of different salinity will have on the growth of duckweed. Hypothesis: The duckweed will show a small growth increase with very low levels of salinity and then will show a decline in growth rate as the levels of salinity increase. Planned methodology: Collect a sample pool of duckweed, and measure out an equal amount into 5 different containers. Place an increasing amount of salt into the first 4 containers and no salt in the 5th container as a control. Monitor the growth of the duckweed for 2 weeks. Methodology В· Collect samples of duckweed. В· Prepare 5 beakers with 500 ml of water each. В· Count 5 duckweed fronds into each beaker. В· Place 1ml of salt in the first beaker, 2ml in the second, 4 ml in the third, 8ml in the fourth and none in the fifth. В· Place each sample into it s own beaker of water and label them according to the amount of salt in each. Label the beaker with no salt control В· Place each beaker by a window where they will each get equal amounts of sunlight. В· monitor the relative growth rate of each sample by measuring the size of each frond compared to the beginning size. Measure once every two days. В· Record your results. Experiment 1 The original experiment was a failure, as the method of measuring duckweed by surface area was inefficient and inaccurate. The minimum amount of salt (2.5ml) added to the samples, turned out to be enough to kill all the duckweed, allowing no comparison to be made of the growth rate. In the second attempt I will count out a smaller, but exact, number of duckweed fronds which will make counting growth easier and more accurate. I will also use smaller amounts of salt (0.5 1.5 ml) The duckweed was found to have a very slight growth rate increase with the addition of 1 ml of salt, (confirming the statement in source 1) however when any more salt was added the duckweed showed a decline in growth rate, culminating with the ... Somatic Marker Hypothesis Part 1: research justification Traditionally, decision making has been seen as a purely rational process involving a logical analysis of the response options and their believed outcomes. However, the somatic marker hypothesis (SMH) proposes that in situations where outcomes are uncertain, our decisions are guided by emotion rather than reason. According to this hypothesis, physiological feedback from the body informs our emotional experience, which in turn guides our decision making. Somatic Markers are formed when the consequence of a particular response option evokes a set of physiological responses (e.g. increased heart rate). These physiological responses become associated with the response option and thus mark that option with emotional value. During the days of Lou Gehrig, whenever there was a baseball game, people usually forgot their worries that day and went to watch their heroes play. 1n 1917, the Americans declared war on Germany. Even in America s ballparks, German immigrants sought to distance themselves from their native land (Eig, 19). Ozone is not the same as the oxygen humans breathe. There is very little of this gas in the atmosphere. First off, let s begin with a definition of the ozone layer. Ozone is a hot, slightly bluish gas. It is a molecule made up of three oxygen atoms, which are very similar to the molecule we are familiar with (O2), the molecule needed for human respiration. Despite the major smog problem, about 90 percent of Earth s ozone are actually in the stratosphere, a layer of the atmosphere far above the Earth s surface. If ozone did not act to filter a great deal of the ultra violet radiation and if the rays were allowed to reach the surface of the Earth, then our planet would be uninhabitable for life (Lutgens3). Ozone depletion and over exposure to enhanced UV B radiation can lead to deadly melanoma skin cancer, increased eye cataracts, and damages to the near surface oceanic phytoplankton, which is the basis of the food chain. The natural depletion of the stratospheric ozone chemistry cycle has been severely interrupted by ozone depletion associated with the decay of chlorofluorocarbons ( Links 4). These are contained in a wide range of products, including aerosol sprays and refrigerants and insulating foam packaging. Ozone concentrations are measured by a Dobson spectrophotometer and satellite based instruments and results from these measurements show a decrease in stratospheric ozone levels of about 1 percent per year since 1979. Studies show that every 1 percent decrease in ozone should produce a 2 percent increase in UV B radiation, and a 4 percent increase in skin cancer (Thompson5). Recently in the Arctic, the presence of significant CIO in the stratosphere has been established (Thompson 6). This shows the process of ozone destruction in the Arctic. Millions of soldiers were killed defending their countries. One of the most famous battles was the Battle of the Bulge. The result of this battle would all but end any hope for Adolf Hitler to win World War II. The essay will cover the events leading up to the Battle of the Bulge, how this battle was fought, the casualties, and what happened after this battle was over. This will give a better understanding, some expertise, and awareness of how important this battle was to the Allied forces. The Battle of the Bulge is said to be Adolf Hitler s final, desperate gamble of the war (Battle of the Bulge Timeline (December 16th, 1944 January 25th, 1945), n.d.). This was because by this time in World War II, Adolf Hitler was running low on supplies. Knowing that this war could end for him soon, he made a frantic effort to try and win the war. Since he was low on supplies his goal was to reach the post city of Antwerp and disrupt the Allied front and their much needed supply lines along the way (Battle of the Bulge Timeline (December 16th, 1944 January 25th, 1945), n.d.). After all, Dimmesdale was the man that slept with his wife during his absence. And the fact that Dimmesdale made Hester promise to conceal his identity only further provoked Chillingworth. James Jesson HON 111 04 01 December 2017 Essay 2 Shakespeare s impressive use of metaphor, simile, or image in Richard II makes it become one of the greatest English work in the world literature. Among these rhetorical effects, the metaphor is all over the place in the work. However, the type of metaphor considered to be one of the most significant during Richard II is the gardening metaphor. The garden scene, which is from Act 3, scene 4 of the play, has successfully provided the perspective of a subject a gardener about the kingdom at present and the sound, reasonable nature of the overthrown. The garden scene starts by the instruction that the gardener gives to his serving man. Go, bind thou up yon dangling apricokes, Which, like unruly children, make their sire Stoop with oppression of their prodigal weight: Give some supportance to the bending twigs. (3.4.32 5) In this passage, the tree refers to England. The current condition of the tree is bad, as their fruits the apricokes stoop with oppression of their prodigal weight . The apricokes here may imply Richard s bad ruling of England. The word prodigal is such a wise word choice, as it not only literally describes the weight of apricokes, but also may emphasize Richard s spendthrift lifestyle. Through the gardener s guidance of how to take care of the tree, he criticizes Richard s poor reigning and expresses his grief for the country s state. Go thou, and like an executioner, Cut off the heads of too fast growing sprays, That look too lofty in our commonwealth: All must be even in our government. You thus employed, I will go root away The noisome weeds, which without profit suck The soil s fertility from wholesome flowers. (3.4.36 42) At the beginning of this passage, the gardener appears to regard the fast growing sprays to Richard himself, as he describes the sprays to be too lofty in our commonwealth . After seeing England under Richard s reign, the gardener wishes to take actions to bring fairness to the country. However, in the rest of the passage, the gardener does not seem to mention Richard, but his worthless followers the noisome weeds who do not help him to rule the country but use him for their greediness. • 38. Global Financial Crisis And Its Impact On Economic Policy... Financialisation is the process in which financial institutions/markets increase in size and gain greater influence over economic policy and outcomes (Palley, 2007).Another link to financialisation is high degree of leverage. This is because with leverage, you can get a loan for 9/10s of the money, so you only need a small portion, and you are able to make lots of profit. Leverage is linked to financialisation in a sense that if it works, you get lots of profit with a working system, however if it doesn t work, then you can lose lots of money, and in high degrees of leverage, you can be losing lots of money by the investment not working out, and someone then has to pay off the loaned money. In this essay, I will be analysing whether or not financialisation was the main cause of the 2008 global financial crisis, or if there were other factors involved in the great recession. I will be arguing that financialisation was a cause of the crash, but because it was aided by other factors, it is not the sole reason behind the collapse. The points that I will be making in my argument will be in relation to the financial crisis in the context of financialisation, talking about market deregulation and subprime mortgages. The second point that I will make will be about the greed of the CEOs on Wall Street, and their irresponsibility when it comes to the money of others. The final point that I will be making will be about the irresponsibility on behalf of the regulators, and how they ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Wagner Act Essays In 1934, the Wagner Act was first introduced, also called the National Labor Relations Act (NLRB), it promised to ensure a wise distribution of wealth between management and labor, to maintain a full flow of purchasing power, and to prevent recurrent depressions. (Babson, p. 85) During the mid 1930 s organized labor and the United States Government struck a deal. It was the time of Franklin D. Roosevelt. A volatile time, the country was attempting to recover from a depression, unemployment was at an all time high and organized labor was struggling for its own existence. Workers saw that businesses and businessmen continued to get rich and mover further ahead in life, while the working class began to fall further down the economic ladder with little or no hope of advancement within society. The solidarity amongst the unemployed is a key factor which cannot be ignored by historians and scholars, and that impetus could have propelled labor forward. For the first time, America had seen mass demonstrations across the country centering on a central issue, unemployment. Unemployment councils were prevalent within many of the major metropolitan centers across the country, and they became the proponent for the wize of the American worker. Numerous rallies and demonstrations were staged by those councils, and when it came to the issue of unemployment there were no perceived boundaries amongst citizens based on ethnicity, race or religion. The barriers which had stymied the growth of the labor movement had temporarily disappeared. However, as powerful as these councils could have been, there was no co ordination amongst the various centers in relation to the public protest. Communities and individuals were becoming mobilized and they too began to learn the importance of being organized and working together collectively and disregarding any self imposed barriers along the lines ... • 43. Bilingualism And Bilingualism According to a 2006 European Commission survey, 56% of respondents said they could speak a language other than their mother tongue. In many countries, the proportion of bilinguals is much higher. For example, 99% of Luxembourg and 95% of Latvian populations speak more than one language. Even in the United States, where English is pre dominantly used as a single language, a large number of people using non English languages at home have increased by 140% since 1980. In many studies, bilingual learners brain can have better attentiveness and the ability to switch tasks than a mono lingual learner s brain because of their cognitive ability to control to suppress one language while using another language or switch from one language to another language simultaneously. Bilingualism also positively affects learners academic progress (Saer, D. J. 1923). Moreover, studies on bilingual language processing have shown that when bilingual speakers, listen to, read, or produce sentences, linguistic competency in both languages is activated, even when the speaker uses one language (Kroll, J. F., Bobb, S. C., Hoshino, N. (2014). This cross language activation can be detected in both beginners and highly skilled bilinguals and can be found at various levels of language processing system, such as lexicon, phonology, and grammar. In particular, cognitive research on bilingualism suggests that a bilingual speaker s second language, which is not used in word recognition and language production, is being suppressed and the language that tends to be self controlled is the native language of the speaker, not the second foreign language, implying that the native language is indeed compromised to accommodate the second language. The control system used to cognitively prohibit and switch languages is a control system commonly used for ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 44. Charter Schools Are The Best Schools Charter schools offer much more than public schools do, like smaller classrooms and extended one on one time. Charter schools are independent entities that have received a charter, which is a set of self written rules (and promises) about how the school will be structured and run (Pascual, 2016, The Truth About Charter Schools). This means that they have their own rules that work for the children and meet their individual needs. The schools could change the rules, as generations change, to accommodate different students. With the unity and numbers of millennials, charter schools could be known as the best type of schools for students to succeed in future colleges and jobs. The title of the poem describes the perspective of life. At the vanishing point, distant objects seem to be little and parallel lines appear to converge. This is the point of confusion whereby a person s beliefs about the purpose of life appear void. At this point, a person is no longer sure whether purpose and destiny matter. • 48. Religion Vs. Self-interest in Robinson Crusoe, by Daniel... This paper is an attempt to examine the seeming opposition of religion vs. self interest with respect to the character of Robinson Crusoe. I will venture to demonstrate that in the novel, Defoe illustrates the contradictions with which Crusoe must contend as he strives to please God while ensuring his own survival in the world. In part, I will endeavor to show that a distorted sense of Puritanism as well as the existing colonial mindset exacerbated this opposition, and resulted in what I propose to be Defoe s (possibly retroactive) imposition of a religious justification for Crusoe s actions. Crusoe s journey in the canoe exemplifies the reality of his life in that, although he longs to please and obey God, he must also contend... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In this instance, therefore, it is shown that the ideal relationship with God contradicts his instinct. In a way, the journey in the canoe in itself contradicts the idea of providence. The purpose of the journey for Crusoe was to obtain more knowledge. Prior to this journey, however, he states Thus I liv d mighty comfortably, my mind being entirely composed by resigning to the will of God, and throwing myself wholly upon the disposal of his Providence. (108) Very shortly after this declaration of his submission to Providence, when referring to his exploration of the island on foot, Crusoe says that the discoveries I made in that little journey, made me very eager to see other parts of the coast; and now I had a boat, I thought of nothing but sailing round the island. (109) As illustrated by the canoe journey, Defoe shows us that Crusoe s longing for knowledge, and for more than what God s Providence has provided him, almost costs him his life. Crusoe s island, like the Garden of Eden, provides for all his needs. He has complete dominion over this island and all of its inhabitants; yet, he still longs to know the other parts of the island. Like Adam, after his search for knowledge, Crusoe sleeps on the hard cold ground being quite spent with the Labor and Fatigue of the Voyage. (Note that before the fall of man, labor was not a source of fatigue.) Here Defoe reminds us that God punishes man who is not ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 49. The Anglo-Saxon Archetype Of Beowulf As An Epic Hero BeaHero An epic hero is a brave and noble character in an epic poem, admired for great achievements or affected by grand events. The epic hero of a story embarks on a quest in search of fame and glory, and encounters challenges throughout their journey. No matter the adversity, the epic hero maintains bravery and courage, never backing down. However, what the epic hero does not know is that the real reason for a quest is always self knowledge (Foster 3). In the epic Beowulf, Anonymous employes the affection of a king, bravery in battle, an eternal quest and a lasting legacy to show Beowulf as an epic hero. Beowulf embodies the Anglo Saxon archetype of an epic hero. A key moment in the epic is when king Hrothgar welcomes Beowulf to his kingdom and says But to table, Beowulf, a banquet in your honor:/Let us toast your victories, and talk of the future (ll. 223 224). Here it is shown that even a king is acknowledging Beowulf s bravery and is throwing him a feast, one of the highest honors a king could bestow upon anyone, showing Hrothgar s great admiration for Beowulf. During the feast Unferth questions Beowulf s honor but is shown to be a coward himself when Beowulf refutes his claims and inspires king Hrothgar with a speech: The Geats will show him courage, soon/He can test his strength in battle. And when the sun/Comes up again, opening another/Bright day from the south, anyone in Denmark will be able to enter Herot (ll. 332 342). Much like they typical Anglo Saxon ... • 50. Analysis Of Without Title By Diane Glancy Culture is a defining thing in every person s life, and affects them and how they perceive the world. In the poem Without Title, the theme is that leaving behind one s former way of life, culture, and family can lead to the loss of joy, identity, and joy in culture. In this poem by Diane Glancy, it has different ways of showing this loss of culture and identity. Without Title uses a lot of figurative language to show this. Line 14 says, I remember the animal tracks of the car, . This shows how the author knows the cultureshe used to have and recognizes that it is gone and there is no true part of her culture now. She calls car tracks, animal tracks, which is something she would have seen if she had gotten to stay with her people and family. These all have a wistful longing feel in the poem, one of sadness. In the final part of the poem it says, The red buffalo painted on his chest. Oh, I couldn t see it but it was there, This can be a representation of the author s father s lost culture, how he still has it be he is not allowed to show it at all, so he just keeps it to himself. In both it shows all the father and the author have left of their culture, their memories, and physical reminders. It shows a loss of identity, and that they both miss it. When the author says her father, brought home horns and hides, it can also be representing any piece of his former culture that he tried to bring back into the home, but his wife says to get rid of them.
