Bruce Lee
The greatest icon of martial arts cinema, and a key figure of modern popular culture. Had it not
been for the amazing Bruce Lee and his incredible movies in the early 1970s, it s arguable
whether or not the martial arts film genre would have ever penetrated and influenced mainstream
western cinema audiences the way it has over the past three decades. The influence of Asian
martial arts cinema can be seen today in so many other film genres including comedies, action,
drama, science fiction, horror and animation.....and they all have their roots in the phenomenon that
was Bruce Lee Bruce Lee was born Lee Juan Fan in November 1940 in San Francisco, the son of

Chow was keen to utilize Lee s strong popularity amongst young Chinese fans, and offered him
the lead role in _Tang sha da xiong (1971)_ ( aka Fists of Fury , aka The Big Boss ). The film
was directed by Wei Lo, shot in Thailand, on a very low budget and in terrible living conditions
for cast and crew. However when it opened in Hong Kong, the film was an enormous hit! Young
Chinese flocked in their thousands to see this ground breaking film starring a tough, athletic
Chinese hero who dispensed justice with his fists and feet. Chow knew he had struck box office
gold with Lee, and quickly assembled another script entitled Jing wu men (1972) (aka The
Chinese Connection , aka Fist of Fury ). The second film (with a slightly improved budget) was
again directed by Wei Lo and was set in Shanghai in the year 1900, with Lee returning to his
school to find his beloved master has been poisoned by the local Japanese karate school. Once
again, he uncovered the evil doers and set about seeking revenge on those responsible for
murdering his teacher. The film featured several superb fight sequences, and at the film s
conclusion, Lee refuses to surrender to the Japanese law and seemingly leaps to his death in a
hail of police bullets! Once more, Hong Kong streets were jammed back with thousands of fervent
Chinese movie fans who could not get enough of the fearless Bruce Lee, and his second film went

Bekker s The World Bewitched
Introduction
The World Bewitched (1965) was written by Bekker to outline theological and philosophical
viewpoints that challenged the notion that ghosts, devils, and angels had an influence on historical
events, as well as nature. The story was written at a time when Christianity was being perfected in
England and the rest of Europe. During this time, The World Bewitched (1965) was written, Bekker
served as a minister in Amsterdam. Protestants needed a philosophical and theological approach to
accentuate the assumption that God was the ruler of the world. The need to project God as the
authority while discrediting the influence of ghosts, devils and angels, was necessary so that
Christianity could take root in England and the rest of Europe. ... Show more content on

Through the use of reason, it is possible to reach a conclusion that God created the universe. In
the universe, spirit and matter were distinct entities from one another. Bekker notes that A mind
is a thinking substance and a body an extended one. Bekker adds that Devils are undeniably
spirits, and man is composed of a Body and a spirit. The use of reason to oppose the existence of
ghosts and demons is critical to Bekker. The distinction between the spirit and matter would mean
that theology and philosophy are necessary for discrediting the existence of demons and ghosts.
However, it is not clear whether there is a relationship between matter and spirit. Critics assert that
Bekker fails to explain whether spirits have an influence on the body or whether God has any
control over bodies in the

e of 1914. However, on the day of Christmas Eve of 1914, many sections of the western front
share peace through an unauthorized truce. The Scottish, German and French troops peacefully
meet each other in the area of No Man s land where gunshots would usually instantly kill their
opponent. The truce allows everyone to bury the men who have died from the war. More events
take place as men play soccer together to show respect. Singing also takes place as christmas trees
are set up in the trenches. The superiors become aware of this official truce which causes all of the
soldiers that have partaken in the Western front truce to face heavy punishment for their acts. The

The movie showed a large area for soldiers to play soccer together. The opposing war teams
would often go together to play soccer. However, reports show that the conditions of the ground
as well as the barbed wire and more made it very unlikely for an organized game of soccer to
take place. There is no evidence from unit war diaries and regimental histories that the soccer
games have taken place. This is a significant historical inaccuracy because the soccer scene was a
major scene that showed how close the soldiers were able to get. This largely impacts the movie
because like the other evidence mentioned earlier, the audience will not be able to comprehend
the motions of the soldiers if this scene were to be removed. This scene was important because it
emphasized the war relationship and defined how every soldier was just a regular human who is
forced to fight. Furthermore, the movie shows the trenches looking not in bad terms. The movie
showed soldiers being fairly clean and comfortable. The soldiers were seen fairly clean and were
not suffering any diseases. However, in WWI, the trenches were very dirty as it was an area
where soldiers slept, ate, fought, got sick and went to the bathroom in. All of this was done in one
area, the trenches. There were rats and lices in the trenches

The Wasp Factory
Obsessed With Killing In the novel The Wasp Factory, by Iain Banks, All the characters possess
an uncommon character trait. The main character, Frank Cauldhame is obsessed with killing. He
has been obsessed with killing since he was a young child, when he murdered three innocent
children. His obsession has evolved into a daily ritual due to multiple reasons. First, Frank s dad
has secretly put additional male hormones in Frank s food since he was a young child. (Frank was
born female, but after years of irregular male hormone in take, his body and mind slowly
transformed into male) This degenerate act caused Frank to react to situations much differently.

He meticulously built the death box with twelve different ways for the wasp to die. The time
spent to build the system, and the daily ritual he follows portrays his obsession. Franks obsession
is exhibited because of a combination of factors. His chemically unbalanced self does not make the
decisions a normal, unharmed person would. His thoughts and actions are different because he
truly does not know any better. He has no one to help him. In Franks persepective, his actions are
exciting, but in reality his actions are immoral and sometimes disgusting. Frank s father is
definitely to blame for his obsession. First, the hormones are the primary reason why his actions
and thoughts are so unconventional. Then, Frank has no rules to follow, another parenting mistake.

Environmental Pollution In California Essay
Environmental Pollution Recommendation on California For the past few years, the American
Lung Association has been releasing its annual reports on the State of The Air that lists the most
polluted cities in the United States. For instance, in 2014, out of the seven cities ranked to have
the worst air quality, six of them are in California. The two major air pollution culprits in
California are from the transportation sources such as trucks and cars, or from the stationary
sources such as industrial facilities and refineries (Ierodiakonou, et al. 392). However, the
California Air Pollution Control Officers Association includes other pollutants in their reports such
as Sulphur(IV) oxide, Carbon(II) Oxide gas and Nitrogen(IV) Oxide from chemical industries,
which also causes harm to human beings and the environment at large. Apparently, Ozone is a lung
searing gas, which brings irritations in the airways causing respiratory problems (Kim, et al. 137).
In California, both ozone and particulate matters have increased the heart and respiratory diseases
such as asthma, lung diseases, bronchitis and heart problems for both children and adults.
Nevertheless, some of this other harmful gas such as Carbon(II) Oxide, Nitrogen(IV) Oxide, and
Sulphur(IV) oxide has also brought about cardiovascular... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The first significant step is to clean up the diesel truck fleet to reduce the level of particulate
matters. Another solution is replacing the fossil fueled vehicles with zero emission freight
movement system like the electric trucks. Finally, install efficient sources of energy in our
industries to reduce the emission of harmful gases in the air. For these strategies to be effective, the
government through the environment regulating bodies should play a part in implementing these
plans to prevent pollution and also introduce stern punishments to those who are responsible for air

Summary Of America Needs It Nerds
America Needs It Nerds by Leonid Fridman talks about how the American society looks down on
geeks or the intellectually curious and academically serious people. Fridman believes that if
America continues to do this it will lead to a negative on how other countries look at us. Leonid
Fridman made his argument using ethos, cause and effect, rhetorical questions, and pathos. In this
passage Fridman started off in the second paragraph using ethos to develop his argument. He cites
Webster s new World Dictionary definition of a geek, which is the word society uses to describe
academically serious individuals. The definition given is a street performer who shocks the public
by biting off heads of live chickens. This definition puts someone who dedicated to strictly under
the same branch as a freak who eats live... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Towards the end of the passage Fridman asks many rhetorical questions. One of the questions
asked how will America remain a world class power if we constantly emphasize social skills and
physical prowess over academic achievement...?! This question makes readers think of how this
societal issue can lead to something bigger like America losing its world class power title . This
question can strike the American patriot readers or people that hold America in a high estate.
Lastly, Leonid Fridman used Pathos to develop his argument. This whole passage gives the
intellectual curious and academically serious people a voice. A reader who has dealt with being
excluded from society and looked down on as a freak will now feel as though their voice will be
heard. Fridman states how this issue is not only geared towards adults in paragraph 4 he explains
how children as young in elementary school are being educated for who they are and their
academic abilities. This gives readers an eye opener that if even young kids are going through this
then the problem should be

The Politics Of Mexico And China
Mexico has been a democracy for close to 100 years, however, in practice, it is only now going
through a democratic transition (ONSF). The dislodging of an authoritarian political party from
presidency in 2000 made many optimistic about Mexico s move towards democracy. Similarly,
China, a fractured authoritarian state, has been showing increasing signs of democracy. Due to its
economic and political trends, many argue that China is well on its way towards becoming a
democracy. However, despite these trends, there is a problem in that the politics in both Mexico
and China remain riddled with corruption. This complex issue raises the question of why corruption
persists in both Mexico and China despite their movements towards democracy. This... Show more

For over 70 years, Mexico was controlled by the PRI, an authoritarian regime that led with co
option, inclusion, and corruption (ONFS). A key element of their power was patron client
relationships, in which bureaucrats delivered services in exchange for support; in other words,
bureaucratic corruption was the norm. These relationships were allowed and perpetuated by weak
governmental laws. Although the PRI is no longer the dominating political party, the PRI maintains
enormous power at both state and local level (Carpenter). As a result, Mexico s government has put
in little effort toward improving the pseudo democratic foundations upon which its ability to rule
was established. Instead of reforming the structure of rule that promoted clientelism, they
focused on keeping certain people out of office (Corruption in Mexico). Because of this lack of
reform, structures that allow old style political machines are still effective, making corruption
still common place. An example of a structural flaw in the Mexican government is the law that
prevents re election (ONFS). Although this practice was recently reformed, without a chance at
re election, political leaders often felt like they had nothing to lose and were more likely to take
bribes in exchange for political favors (Agren). The source of the problem is that Mexico is still
recovering from a system that was based on

variables for a reader to gain any ground of understanding. It was very confusing to try to figure

poet is expressing her feeling on what real poetryis. On one hand, she dislikes the view of point of

Why The Battle Of The Bulge
The Battle of the Bulge, or Ardennen Offensive was a major German offensive. On December 16,
1944 towards the end of World War II the battle was the only major German offensive of the war,
launched by Adolf Hitler in order to attempt to reverse the decrease in his fortunes that had started
on D ay. He intended to accomplish this by trying to split Allied troops through an assault located
within the Ardennes Forest of Belgium, destroying enemy troops located here. He believed would
ensure the allies to form a peace treaty that would favor the Axis Powers. The attack in the
Ardennes Forest did not result in Hitler s predicted outcome. The Ardennes Forest, was a dense
forest with only a few roads that stretched seventy five miles, these roads were being help by four
inexperienced and tired American divisions. Using them element of surprise the German troops
attacked the forest on December 16, 1944. The American divisions, desperately sought to stop
advancing German troops. Despite their attempts by the end of the day the German stoops had

The term twice exceptional refers to an individual who is gifted in one area and yet suffers from a

The term gifted student refers to a student who has an exceptional capability (2006). Over the years
there have been numerous myths about gift learners. One such myth is that these students are lazy
or underachievers (2006). Another myth is that a student can be gifted and also have a learning

Movements And Counter Revolutions And Revolutions
Movements and counter movements, revolutions and counter revolutions, this is the story of
human history. Karl Marx observed that to truly identify a state, we need only to observe its
economy and the associated institutions, Marx s famously commented liberal conceptions of
justice and equality often result in unequal results rung as a corner stone argument of opponents of
Neo Liberal economics. The story of the Occupy Movement, while regularly citing Marxist
arguments in its critique of neo liberalism, is essentially the story of resistance. It fought against
Neo Liberalism, globalization and the fight to re include economic equality in the discourse of
human rights. In Fact, the Occupy Movement is a direct response to the abuses and inherent
contradictions found in Neo Liberal ideology, they range from significant income inequality to
fundamentally altering the discourse associated with human rights. To fully understand Neo
Liberalism, Capitalismand Globalization, it is important to understand the preceding ideology. For
the purposes of this paper, Colonialism and Imperialism will be briefly explained, in an attempt to
set context for discussing Occupy s creation and its goals in relationship to Neo Liberalism. Simply

Essay on Airplanes and Aerodynamics
Aerodynamics is generally summarized in these 2 terms: Lift against Weight and Thrust against
Drag . This basically means the amount of flight power generated must be equal to, or greater than
the amount of weight of the airplane, and the amount of pushing generated, must be equal to or
greater than the airs resistance. But the overall question, so far, is how is Liftand Thrust generated?
The answer to how Thrust is generated is quite simple. Its sort of how a car would move, except
in a much different way. Airplanes have 4 engines, which can each exert easily up to 200 PSI of
air (pressureper square inch), composed of liquid fuel cylinders, and internal combustion (like a
car). It also tops to 250 km per hour on the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Pressure is the amount of molecules getting squeezed and impacted by energy. So more pressure
will squeeze and compress more of these air molecules, obviously making them all slow (the
amount of compression the molecules experience is the energy the amount of molecules that
experienced this compression is the pressure!!!) So less pressure is proven to increase the speed
(fans, in this case actually DECREASE the pressure on the air by cutting it with their blades). Also
consider that Bernoulli s principle is fonder with fluids but it also supports aerodynamics. When air
flows over the top of the wing, the curve stretches out the molecules and breaks the atmospheric
pressure, which was compressing those molecules together. That is how air over the wing is
faster. So take into perspective that the compressed air molecules in the bottom make up a
sturdy road, and the stretched out and spaced out air molecules on top simply, make up a freely
flowing flow of air. And according to the power of thrust it is moving along this road with no
powerful force impacting above that s your airplane flying straight forward for sure, but how
does the airplane climb? There are 2 different basic control moves for a plane. The first is pitch,
and the second is roll or yawn. When the nose points upwards the plane climbs, and when it points
downwards the plane descends. That s the pitch. So when our plane tilts its nose upwards the
sturdy road of pressurized air molecules tilts

Coca Cola have maintained a steady asset turnover ratio 0f 2.51 and 2.50 in 2010 and 2011
respectively. Due to Coca Cola having high sales and relatively low assets, their asset turnover
is likely to be high and earn a low profit on each sale. If Coca Cola wish to improve their asset
turnover ratio, they could improve their sales performance or dispose of surplus or
underutilised assets. Inventory turnover measures the company s success in converting
inventories into sales. Coca Cola s current inventory turnover has been 62 days in 2010 and 76.2
days in 2011. This is a relatively high number, meaning Coca Cola sell their entire inventories
5.89 and 4.79 times a year. This high figure could be due to obsolete inventories, whereas a lower
figure would indicate a more efficient business, because they would sell their inventories more
times a year. To improve their inventory turnover, Coca Cola could hold lower levels of
inventories or achieve higher sales without increasing their levels of inventories. Receivables (or
debtors ) days calculates the time typically taken by a business to collect the money that it is
owed, This is an important ratio, because granting customers lengthy periods of trade credit may
result in a business experiencing liquidity and cash flow problems. Coca Cola have had receivables

Virtual Museum Of Japanese Arts
History The island nation of Japan, according to Virtual Museum of Japanese Arts (2016), has a
rich history that largely alternates between times of imperial and military control. The Jomon
period, which started in 10,000 BC, is the earliest instance of culture in Japan. This period
transitioned into the Yayoi period (300 BC), which, according to Columbia University s Dr.
Heinrich (2009), featured a more advanced agricultural society. Virtual Museum of Japanese Arts
(2016) continues to describe the Kofu period (300 710 AD), during which ancestors of the
current Japanese imperial family founded Japan s first unified state under the Yamato Court,
and Buddhism was introduced in 552 AD. Japan s first capital was established in Nara during
the Nara Period (710 794 AD), and moved to Kyoto during the Heian Period (794 1185 AD)
when noble families started ruling in the emperor s name. During this period, Japan s then

Archetype Mother Goddess In The Hunger Games
Being selfless is a characteristic that few people possess. Being concerned more with the needs of
others is what heroism embodies. The narrative in the movie, The Hunger Games follows Katniss
Everdeen s heroic quest as a tribute in the 74th Hunger Games of Panem. How does Katniss
embody the feminine archetype mother goddessand how does a heros journey represent Katniss
quest as a tribute in the Hunger Games? What is the feminine archetype mother goddess? An
archetype is a personality type that is generally thought to be the greatest or purest example
(Harris). Goddess is the female version of God. A goddess is the great Mother, she exists in all
women, is beautiful even in her flaws, and she is a woman in touch with her own power to create
and destroy (Jones ch. 3). The archetype mother goddess is actually several archetypes bottled up
into one great archetype. The Great Mother personifies a caretaker, guide, nurturer, protector, and
creator (ch. 3). A caretaker is a nurturer, who can take on the role of looking after another human
being, is often protective, loyal, and sacrifice themselves for the greater good (ch. 3). In addition,
caretakers are selfless, empathic, virtuous, true, incredibly strong and resilient (ch. 3). A creator
archetype can give birth to new ideas, concepts, and things (ch. 3). Katniss demonstrates all of these
qualities during her quest as a tribute.
What is a hero and a hero s journey? A hero is an individual who has the courage of conviction to
perform feats that benefit the general populace, acts as a soldier of virtue, and has an altruistic
spirit that urges him or her to act against evil and defend the greater good at all costs, even
sacrificing his own well being or life (Harris 2). Vogler reduced Joseph Campbells The Hero

Journey:

My slogan is Education is Power . I truly believe in this because education will lead to success in

Gardens, the final frontier. When I was little my mom and I would rototill our yard and dig out a

Kill Bill Volume 1 Aesthetics
Each person will make for himself the kind of nude he wants, with the nude that I will have made
for him. He ll put everything where it belongs, with his own eyes (Picasso, 2009). This is what the
term aesthetic is; an individual s set of ideas about style and taste, along with its expression.
Aesthetics has the role to enhance any visual object, appliance, theme and concept, inducing the
trust and relationship of form and content within a viewer or audience of a film or production. To
fully understand how the role of aestheticsfurthers a theme or concept of a narrative we must look
at the medium of film and its scenographic elements. These elements contribute to establishing an

The quality, intensity and direction of lighting can influence an audience s understanding of a films
characters, actions, themes and mood. The colour of the lighting can also hold thematic relevance
like in the film Kill Bill Volume 1 where one of the crazy 88 members run through a red hallway.
This red is used throughout the entire film and represents danger (Kill Bill Volume 1, 2003). This
explanation is supported by the fact that the antagonists of the scene all emerge from this red
hallway proving the danger. Highlighted lighting in a film, for example, call attention to shapes and
textures, while shadows often conceal things, creating a sense of mystery or fear. For this reason,
lighting must be thoroughly planned in advance to ensure its desired effect on an audience.
Lighting can make a scene feel happy, sad, mysterious or even dangerous hence furthering the
concept portrayed in a film without even needing dialogue from the actors. Lighting in its entirety
plays a huge role in the aesthetic of a film as it creates the context furthering the concept in which
the entire film happens (G., 2000). It has an impact on acting, production design, costuming,
editing, makeup, visual effects, the plot and

Codiification And Codification Of English
Codification and Standardization of English
English was one of many languages spoken in Britain for four hundred years before it began to
be called English. It was a language with no special status and without a special strong identity. In
fact, the history of English started with the arrival of Anglo Saxons in Britain in the 400s when
Celtic languages were spoken by the inhabitants of the island. English shows some traces of Celtic,
rising from the merge of dialects brought by the Germanic invaders. And after the Norman conquest
of 1066, English spelling and vocabulary was affected by French and Latin, especially when French
becomes the official language of England. But in the period of renaissance, Shakespeare and the
Elizabeth era, the role of the church, of French and Latin turn down and English becomes the
language of government and science. And when the first official government documents were

Romanticism In Annie Hall
Annie Hall is a 1977 American romantic comedy film directed by Woody Allen from a

Bad Relationships In Someone Like You
Causes of Bad Relationship
A bad relationship may develop without your notice. In the film Someone Like You , the most
obvious example is the relationship between Ray and Jane. The breakdown is not a sudden effect,
but a gradual development.
It all starts with the imbalance of giving. According to Cher Carter Scott, dangers arises when one
person gives too little in a relationship. In the movie, Jane invests everything, including her heart,
body (sex) and future life (cohabitation). However, Ray is the opposite. All he can give is the short
term excitement and passion. As Robert Solomon suggested, their desire mismatch leads to
coordination problem.
Their love at first sight relationship also lacks a strong foundation to overcome challenges.
Applying Robert Sternberg s triangular theory of love, Ray and Jane s form of love is Romantic
Love (intimacy + passion). In their first meeting, they feel attracted to one another. Eventually
intimacy grows and they start dating. The process is filled with passion. However, Ray is not
ready for commitment. He never has a clear cut with Diane. Jane feels unsafe and uncertain as the
triangular relationship continues. The bond between Ray and Jane gets weaker day by day, such
that any quarrels can break it easily.
The key to further worsen the relationship is poor communication. Taking the case of cohabitation

Should Welfare Be More Charity Impact On Homeless, Hungry,...
Driving to the mall one Saturday morning, there was an older gentleman on the corner with his
small family, Wife and young son, with a cardboard sign that read, HOMELESS, NEED FOOD,
MONEY FOR DOCTOR BILLS. The man was rugged and could obviously use help. His right leg
had been amputated, so he definitely needed assistance. One may wonder in this instance, Where
are the charities? The groups are nowhere to be found. There should be more charityimpact on
homeless, hungry, and such because of instances like this. For poor or less fortunate families,
philanthropic groups should finance programs such as medical assistance, housing, and food. First,
philanthropic groups should finance programs for medical assistance. While most middle and upper
class workers can afford health care for themselves and their children, the lower class families
cannot even fathom the thought of being committed to a nowadays expensive payment because
when they go out and look for insurance, the monthly payments exceed the amount that the family
pays for its rent in two months time. There are many charity foundations that can help those unable
to afford insurance, but one in specific is the Charity Care Policy at North Mississippi Medical
Center in Tupelo, Mississippi. It is a local charity organization that benefits the less fortunate. If a

Pipelines Are Making Headlines Lately For All The Wrong...
Pipelines are making headlines lately for all the wrong reasons. It is important to address why
they are perceived to be harmful, if they actually are, and how they can be improved for the
future, or if they should be eliminated. The use of pipelines date back as far as 500BC in China.
In those times, the pipelines were made of bamboo, used to separate the salt from the sea water.
The United States did not adopt these until much later. Edwin L. Drake drilled his first
commercial oil well in the United States near the city Titusville in Pennsylvania; the oil which
they nicknamed rock oil was then used as a less expensive alternative to whale oil. It was used
as lubricant and as fuel for lamps. It was not long after this that it was realized they would need a
more cost effective way of transporting the oil from place to place. At the time, Teamsters were
using horses and wagons to get the oil to the markets; one barrel going five miles costed more than
the entire rail charged to go to New York City. For that reason, the pipeline was created. The first
pipelines were nothing special; they were short and sometimes made of wood. With their growing
popularity into the 1860s, the quality control followed over the pipe manufacturing, switching from
wrought iron to steal. (Pipeline 101, n.d.) Coming into the twenty first century, the pipeline has still
been playing a key role in the oil industry. Given, its importance to the oil industry it is important to
understand how

The Music Industry Has Experienced A Difficult Period For...
Introduction: The music industry has experienced a difficult period for the past decade. since
the initial decline of Napster both record labels and artists have seen their revenues dwindling.
As the music industry has progressed vinyls were swapped for CD s and more recently on
demand audio streaming. Since its introduction, digital audio streaming has been regarded as the
demise of the audio industry by some artists and promoters, however, it is also perceived as the
future of the industry as it has shown promising growth over its relatively short existence. This
is due to various positive and negative factors that are entwined in the system, This factors being
primarily overall revenue and profitability of the method, as much as convenience for both
consumers, promoters and artist. In order to understand such debate, one must first assess the
actual definition of music streaming, furthermore, identifying its effects towards the music
industry and what could be regarded as its life blood: Artist income and average revenue. By
definition streaming is the ability to listen to a record in real time without requiring the user to

accessed by the user allowing for parallel playback and buffering (rapidly loading more content

Fatty Acid Composition Of Adipose Tissue And Colorectal...
Fatty acid composition of adipose tissue and colorectal cancer: a case control study
Colorectal cancer is considered as the third most common cancers worldwide that usually leads to
the death of the patient. Studies have proved that lifestyle factors great influence the development
and spread of cancer. Modifying the lifestyle can reduce the risk of getting colorectal cancer by
70%. It is noted that more consumption of red and processed meat increase the risk of developing
colorectal cancer. However, high intake of dietary fibers decreases it. On the contrary
epidemiologic studies that connect the fat intake with colorectal cancer are varying and unreliable.
The concentrations of fatty acids in human serum and in the membranes of red blood cells depict
the intake of previous days or weeks. Conversely, the fatty acid concentration in the adipose tissue
truly show the habitual dietary intake in the previous two to three years. Hence, various studies that
aim to explore the correlation between the concentration of fatty acids and cancer risk use adipose
tissue in this request.
The case study discussed in this paper is conducted in Five University hospitals located in
Northeastern France (Cottet and others 2015). Subcutaneous adipose tissue samples were acquired
from the surgery departments through surgeons. The samples belonged to the patients who were
admitted for elective abdominal surgery. These patients were recently diagnosed of primary
colorectal cancer.

Performance Enhancing Drugs Should Be Allowed
One of the most debated topics in all of sports is whether performance enhancing drugs should be
allowed. According to the free dictionary, performance enhancing drugs is defined as Any drug
used to gain an advantage in sports. Such drugs may improve endurance or strength or accelerate
healing after injury . Performance enhancing drugs was first acknowledged as a problem in
professional sports in 1967 when the international Olympic committee created a medical board due
to the heightened use. Today there are seven types of performance enhancers including: stimulants,
narcotics, anabolic androgenic steroids, beta 2 agonists, peptide hormones, diuretics, blood doping.
That number might seem small but there is a massive amount of variety within these drugs that is
causing more and more athletes every year to use them. Performance enhancing drugs should be
illegal because of the unfair advantage, health risks, and the lack of role models that athletes would
play. Sports have been around since the beginning of time. As the games age and become more
popular, they start to evolve and become more competitive at the same time. This evolution comes
from better strategies, techniques, and ultimately the athletes themselves. In today s modern era of
sports, professional athletes are the most elite people in their field, always wanting to be better than
anyone else. With every athlete striving to become one of the greatest to ever play, some want to

NIBIN And IAFIS Research Paper
The NIBIN, IAFIS, and CODIS are all databases that the forensic scientists use. Each of these are
different and unique in their own way. For example the NIBIN stands for the National Integrated
Ballistic Information Network while the IAFIS stands for the Integrated Automated Fingerprint
Identification System. Lastly the CODIS stands for the Combined DNA Index System. All of these
are different and help forensic scientist study crime scenes or individuals to access and try to put
an end to specific crimes or stop individuals. While they work with something different such as
DNA, fingerprints, or firearms they all work together to stop crime.
Firstly, the NIBIN which stands for the National Integrated Ballistic Information Network is a

They use this information to put it into the NDIS, or the National DNA Index System, which is
the collective database of people s DNA in the US. The FBI uses this database to match DNA
that they find at a crime scene to a person who they will be able to bring into custody to question.
If it was a rapping case, they would be able to collect DNA and match it to the person who
committed the crime and bring them into custody. This system came about when DNA started
to be prevalent in putting criminals away. They used the database to store information about
every person so that if a crime is done they will be able to easily find them and bring them in.
They can also use this information to try and help find people from the National Missing Persons
DNA Database. It began in 1990 and was legitamized by the DNA Identification Act of 1994. The
team is constructed of a program manager, forensic system program manager, a biologist, an
auditor, a management and program analysts, and a paralegal specialist. All of these people work

Food Retail Sector Of The Food Industry
1.The sector of the food industry being investigated is food retail. Food retail involves the selling
of food at all levels.
The organisation I choose to investigate within the food retail sector is Woolworths.
2.Woolworths provide customers with a wide range of quality products. They offer high quality
and fresh produce. They mostly sell food products ranging from frozen meals, tin foods, fresh
bread, deli items, milk, soft drinks, and packet foods etc. But however they also sell clothes,
personal hygiene items, toys, bathroom and kitchen appliances etc.
3.The importance of using emerging technologies in food production, manufacturing and packaging

4. The emerging technologies within the organisation of Woolworths that I choose impact on all
sectors of the food industry in many different ways. Self serve checkouts can impact on
agriculture and fisheries by needing more produce to be grown/farmed. Due to having attracted
more people by having check outs so people don t have to wait in line. They also impact food
processing and manufacture because they may need the barcodes on the products they sell to be
longer/shorter or a specific way to work with the checkouts. It improves shopping within the food
retail sector making it more efficient and easier to purchase goods. Self serve Checkouts can also
impact on food service and catering they can run in grab what they need and quickly purchase and
get back to food service and catering for customers.
The online shopping app can impact on agriculture and fisheries due to the app being accessible
to anyone with a smartphone meaning more people can order from home because they don t have
to go into the store. Therefore meaning they will have to produce more stock to keep up with the
demand. This will also effect food processing and manufacture meaning they will have to produce
more packaging. It impacts on the food retail sector because they get more customers they now
have to hire more people to keep up with the customers. Food service and catering can effect them
because

Exxon Mobil Merger Essay
Mergers and Acquisition: Exxon Mobil Merger
Introduction
Industry mergers or business combinations are a phenomenon that has been commonplace for quite
some time now. They basically involve two or more organizations coming together to form a large
corporate under which they operate. The new organization which may have a combination of the
names of the merging components or a totally new name operates as a new entity. The new rule
under which the new entity operates depends in the agreement on the terms of the merger. As
stated in our advanced accounting text, the history of mergers can be traced back to the 1895 to
1905 period in the US when the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They turn all the energies that went into competition before to promote their joint product together.
In my view, this kind of combination is easier than others since the two merging groups already
understand their market and understand each other s product perfectly.
In December 1, 1988, the Exxon and Mobil oil companies announced their intent to carry out a
horizontal combination valued at approximately $80 billion. (CNN Money, 1998). The aim of
this combination was to Create an oil entity rivaling the biggest in the world . The two chief
executives Exxon s Lee Raymond and Mobil s Lucio Noto announced then that the main motive
of their merger was to compete more effectively in the face of sharp drops in oil prices. One
objective the bigger company was set to achieve would be to cut costs of operation so as to
maximize profit. Industry analysts also said that it was a good prospect for the two firms to
merge since many organizations at the time were slashing the pay of employees and making
capital spending plans to cut costs. Under the terms of the agreement the new company would
be called the Exxon Mobil Corp, retaining both the Exxon and Mobil brands, and the company will
be headquartered in Exxon s home city of Irving, Texas. During acquisition, Exxon had a market
value, premerger, of $175 billion, compared with $58.7 billion for Mobil. Exxon had a P/E ratio of
about 23.6 versus 17.9 for Mobil. Exxon paid 1.32 shares for each share of

1990 Gardner Theft
Absence Makes the Heart Grow Fonder: The Effects of the 1990 Gardner Art Theft Upon entering
the room, visitors eyes dart to that mysteriously empty frame centered on the opposite wall. In such
a painstakingly designed museum, this frame looks out of place. On these walls hang the memoirs
of revered artists, but the empty frames scattered throughout remember something more tragic: the
largest property theft in world history (Menconi, 2012). Head of security at the Gardner, Anthony
Amore, refers to these empty frames as placeholders, not memorials and urges visitors to see them
as a testament to their belief that they will reacquire the stolen paintings someday (Menconi, 2012).

Rembrandt was highly prolific, but primarily a portraitist. Thus, he created just one seascape,
which the Gardner burglars stole. Storm on the Sea of Galilee is a masterpiece of religious
importance and a beautiful example of the baroque genre. Rembrandt s influence is immense and
his popularity described as cult like. Furthermore, his art promotes a concentrated interest in which
his name and the images he produced were empowered and endowed with meaning that
encompassed anti authoritarian conduct, personal and political liberalism, republicanism,
originality, and innovative creative powers (McQueen, 2003). Therefore, Rembrandt s influence
stretches beyond the realms of artistic history and style into the realms of religion, politics, and
psychology. With the loss of a one of a kind Rembrandt seascape, the world lost access to a piece
that displays the profound impact Rembrandt has on culture and

28 Jan 2017 Abstract
This paper will be based on the California Review Management study called Misunderstanding the
Nature of Company Performance: The Halo Effect and Other Business Delusions by Phil
Rosenzweig. The research processes that have been completed on business performances over
the years, and the strengths and weaknesses of the types of data used will be discussed. The
Halo Effect will be evaluated, and examples from my career will be given to help with
understanding the topic at hand. I will give thoughts, ideas, and solutions I plan to adapt and work

For this research, the companies researched were chosen based on the independent variable of
outcome success. When researching how operations and other factors affect a company s success,
the testing needs to include companies with different success levels. If the data are based only on
successful companies, there is not any comparison to show what they were doing differently to
make them successful. For example, all of the successful companies have an owner, but that is not
what makes them successful. All companies successful or not are owned by someone. The other
studies that Rosenzweig explains are 1994 Built to Last: Successful Habits of Visionary Companies
and 2001 Good to Great: Why Some Companies Make the Leap...and Other Don t. These studies
are considered more accurate on the basis of successful companies being compared to less
successful companies, but Rosenzweig points out a separate fault within. The latter cases did
extensive research, but the majority of the data came from publications and articles published by
journalists. Rosenzweig uses these to introduce the Halo Effect. He explains that these studies,
though they are more thorough with the samples, the data are based on highly on biased
information, instead of getting the raw data from the companies.

Compare and Contrast Two Short Stories
Compare and Contrast Two Short Stories
Landlady by Roald Dahl and Chemistry by Graham Swift
There are lots of great short stories out there, but in my opinion, both Chemistry by Graham Swift
and The Landlady by Roald Dahl are two of the most unique and effective stories. They share both
similarities and differences throughout. Comparing and contrasting the way the authors use their
inimitable writing style to achieve their intentions in the story will give us more idea how these
stories are alike and distinct.
In a way, these two stories are similar because both the authors had carefully chosen the words ...

In the beginning , Billy thought the landlady was terribly nice ,which he was quite grateful to
have such a nice landlady who give him a well appointed service, but as the conversations go on,
Billy was then frightened by her weird and creepy contents, he sat there staring straight ahead of
him into the far corner of the room, biting his lower lip. tells the readers that he s begin to
frightened and suspect landlady, foreshadowing the readers that she might be doing something that
couldn t be trusted by Billy.
In another way, these two stories are different because the authors have been using different
perspective when narrating the story. In Chemistry , author s written the story in the word of narrator
, mixing both the perspective of adult and young boy s. Line My father s death was a far less
remote event than my grandfather s but no more explicable, I was only seven. can be a good
example. Almost the whole story was written in past tense, added to the effect of recalling. He s
shown a grown up man recalling memories when he was back in 7 10 years old. This kind of
writing style makes readers felt more personal, because the subject is I , when reading out the
story, readers will feel like they re experiencing the narrators life, as if they are the narrator. Also,
another interesting fact about this kind of writing style is that if I were to look at the same events
in other character s perspective, it might be another whole different story because

Theme Of Fate In Macbeth
The play Macbeth is a brilliant story told by William Shakespeare. There are a lot of themes in the
play that goes on and teaches about the ambition, the guilt, the fate versus free will concept and
how things are not what they seem. Therefore, all of those factor into how Macbeth is a very
interesting and very captivating story.
Shortly after Macbeth hears the prophecies of him becoming the Thane of Cawdor and the King
of Scotland, and after becoming the Thane of Cawdor a few moments later, he writes a letter to
Lady Macbeth about what he is thinking, which at the time is how he wants to do away with
King Duncan. ... the fatal entrance of Duncan under my battlements. Come, you spirits that tend
on mortal thoughts, unsex me here, and fill me from the crown to the toe tap full of direst
cruelty (I. v. 40 44). Lady Macbeth says to herself after hearing of Duncans arrival to Inverness.
Lady Macbeth then wants to have the strength to kill him by making her strong like a man. Later
on, when Macduff flees to England to find Malcolm to raise an army to take back the throne of
Scotland from a tyrant, Macduff says to Malcolm after Malcolm says he is very greedy and unfit
to be king; Scotland has enough treasures to satisfy you out of your own royal coffers (IV. iii. 90
91). Macduff tries to win over Malcolm by tempting him to come back. Furthermore, he then tries
to convince him to fight Macbeth because of his love for Scotland and his ambition to take back
the crown.

Favorite Homework
Everyone s Least Favorite Chore A list of chores is pinned to the refrigerator to complete before
my mother gets home from work. So far, I have vacuumed the carpet, cleaned my room, and swept
the floor, but the most excruciating chore remains: washing the dishes. Washing the dishes would
be quick and easy if I could stick the filthy dishes in the dishwasher, but it is broken. Instead, the
mountain of foodcovered dishes will have to be scrubbed clean by hand. I will have to prepare the
supplies, scrape off the remaining food, rinse and dry the dishes, and put them back in the
cupboards and drawers. Washing the dishes is a messy and burdensome process every
household must suffer through, unless they want to eat off of paper plates for the rest of their
lives. To begin the dishwashing process, I dig out the supplies. Mentally preparing myself, I
grab the dish soap, drain plug, towel, and sponge. After I have all of my supplies on the counter,
I reach under the heaping pile of slimy plates, pans, pots, silverware, and glasses to place the
drain plug in the sink. Next, I fill the sink with hot water to soften the dried food clinging to the
dishes. I attempt to not make the water too hot, but usually I fail and nearly burn off my fingertips.
Once the water is at an acceptable temperature, I squirt heaps dish soap into the running water until
bubbles start to foam over the edge of the sink. To have the slightest bit of enjoyment in the
otherwise grueling process, I scoop

When Bad Things Happen To Good People Analysis
Introduction In the novel, When Bad Things Happen to Good People by Harold. S Kushner the
theme of suffering was explored. Kushner attended Columbia University obtaining a BA and an
MA. He was then ordained a Rabbi in 1960 and lead a very religious life. Kushner s young son
was diagnosed with progeria, which causes his body to age quickly. He died when he was
fourteen and this caused Kushner to question his faith. He decided to write this novel because of
this; wanting to help others deal with their suffering and strengthen their faith. The religious and
self help tone of the novel helped to convey his message very well.
Objective
Kushner begins by discussing simple answers that people have thought of to explain why bad
things happen to good people. Next, he takes a closer look at four main causes as to why people
suffer. First, sometimes there is no reason. The world is random and many things do not follow any
particular order. This means that if someone gets hurt, they may have been in the wrong place at the
wrong time. Kushner explains that God does not create this chaos, but tries to make order out of it.
Second, the laws of nature do not make exceptions for nice people. If a rock is going to fall, it is
going to fall whether someone is under it or ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
By suffering ourselves, we are able to have a better understanding the suffering of others. Kushner
attributes much of his characteristics as a person to all of the times he has suffered. When
considering his son s suffering and how that affected him he said, I am a more sensitive person, ...
a more sympathetic counselor because of Aaron s life and death than I would ever have been
without it (Kushner 133). If he had not suffered, he would not understand suffering; it is as simple
as that. Having this connection with all of humanity has helped Kushner become not only a better
Rabbi but a better and more merciful

There is no evidence from unit war diaries and regimental histories that the soccer games have taken place. This is a significant historical inaccuracy because the soccer scene was a major scene that showed how close the soldiers were able to get. This largely impacts the movie because like the other evidence mentioned earlier, the audience will not be able to comprehend the motions of the soldiers if this scene were to be removed. This scene was important because it emphasized the war relationship and defined how every soldier was just a regular human who is forced to fight. Furthermore, the movie shows the trenches looking not in bad terms. The movie showed soldiers being fairly clean and comfortable. The soldiers were seen fairly clean and were not suffering any diseases. Similarly, China, a fractured authoritarian state, has been showing increasing signs of democracy. Due to its economic and political trends, many argue that China is well on its way towards becoming a democracy. For over 70 years, Mexico was controlled by the PRI, an authoritarian regime that led with co option, inclusion, and corruption (ONFS). A key element of their power was patron client relationships, in which bureaucrats delivered services in exchange for support; in other words, bureaucratic corruption was the norm. These relationships were allowed and perpetuated by weak governmental laws. Although the PRI is no longer the dominating political party, the PRI maintains enormous power at both state and local level (Carpenter). As a result, Mexico s government has put in little effort toward improving the pseudo democratic foundations upon which its ability to rule was established. Instead of reforming the structure of rule that promoted clientelism, they focused on keeping certain people out of office (Corruption in Mexico). Because of this lack of reform, structures that allow old style political machines are still effective, making corruption still common place. An example of a structural flaw in the Mexican government is the law that prevents re election (ONFS). But the overall question, so far, is how is Liftand Thrust generated? The answer to how Thrust is generated is quite simple. Its sort of how a car would move, except in a much different way. So less pressure is proven to increase the speed (fans, in this case actually DECREASE the pressure on the air by cutting it with their blades). Also consider that Bernoulli s principle is fonder with fluids but it also supports aerodynamics. When air flows over the top of the wing, the curve stretches out the molecules and breaks the atmospheric pressure, which was compressing those molecules together. That is how air over the wing is faster. • 23. Archetype Mother Goddess In The Hunger Games Being selfless is a characteristic that few people possess. Being concerned more with the needs of others is what heroism embodies. The narrative in the movie, The Hunger Games follows Katniss Everdeen s heroic quest as a tribute in the 74th Hunger Games of Panem. How does Katniss embody the feminine archetype mother goddessand how does a heros journey represent Katniss quest as a tribute in the Hunger Games? What is the feminine archetype mother goddess? An archetype is a personality type that is generally thought to be the greatest or purest example (Harris). Goddess is the female version of God. A goddess is the great Mother, she exists in all women, is beautiful even in her flaws, and she is a woman in touch with her own power to create and destroy (Jones ch. 3). The archetype mother goddess is actually several archetypes bottled up into one great archetype. The Great Mother personifies a caretaker, guide, nurturer, protector, and creator (ch. 3). A caretaker is a nurturer, who can take on the role of looking after another human being, is often protective, loyal, and sacrifice themselves for the greater good (ch. 3). In addition, caretakers are selfless, empathic, virtuous, true, incredibly strong and resilient (ch. 3). A creator archetype can give birth to new ideas, concepts, and things (ch. 3). Katniss demonstrates all of these qualities during her quest as a tribute. What is a hero and a hero s journey? A hero is an individual who has the courage of conviction to perform feats that benefit the general populace, acts as a soldier of virtue, and has an altruistic spirit that urges him or her to act against evil and defend the greater good at all costs, even sacrificing his own well being or life (Harris 2). He ll put everything where it belongs, with his own eyes (Picasso, 2009). This is what the term aesthetic is; an individual s set of ideas about style and taste, along with its expression. Aesthetics has the role to enhance any visual object, appliance, theme and concept, inducing the trust and relationship of form and content within a viewer or audience of a film or production. The colour of the lighting can also hold thematic relevance like in the film Kill Bill Volume 1 where one of the crazy 88 members run through a red hallway. This red is used throughout the entire film and represents danger (Kill Bill Volume 1, 2003). This explanation is supported by the fact that the antagonists of the scene all emerge from this red hallway proving the danger. Highlighted lighting in a film, for example, call attention to shapes and textures, while shadows often conceal things, creating a sense of mystery or fear. For this reason, lighting must be thoroughly planned in advance to ensure its desired effect on an audience. Lighting can make a scene feel happy, sad, mysterious or even dangerous hence furthering the concept portrayed in a film without even needing dialogue from the actors. Lighting in its entirety plays a huge role in the aesthetic of a film as it creates the context furthering the concept in which the entire film happens (G., 2000). It is important to address why they are perceived to be harmful, if they actually are, and how they can be improved for the future, or if they should be eliminated. The use of pipelines date back as far as 500BC in China. In those times, the pipelines were made of bamboo, used to separate the salt from the sea water. The United States did not adopt these until much later. Edwin L. Drake drilled his first commercial oil well in the United States near the city Titusville in Pennsylvania; the oil which they nicknamed rock oil was then used as a less expensive alternative to whale oil. It was used as lubricant and as fuel for lamps. It was not long after this that it was realized they would need a more cost effective way of transporting the oil from place to place. At the time, Teamsters were using horses and wagons to get the oil to the markets; one barrel going five miles costed more than the entire rail charged to go to New York City. For that reason, the pipeline was created. The first pipelines were nothing special; they were short and sometimes made of wood. With their growing popularity into the 1860s, the quality control followed over the pipe manufacturing, switching from wrought iron to steal. (Pipeline 101, n.d.) Coming into the twenty first century, the pipeline has still been playing a key role in the oil industry. Given, its importance to the oil industry it is important to understand how ... Performance enhancing drugs was first acknowledged as a problem in professional sports in 1967 when the international Olympic committee created a medical board due to the heightened use. Today there are seven types of performance enhancers including: stimulants, narcotics, anabolic androgenic steroids, beta 2 agonists, peptide hormones, diuretics, blood doping. That number might seem small but there is a massive amount of variety within these drugs that is causing more and more athletes every year to use them. Performance enhancing drugs should be illegal because of the unfair advantage, health risks, and the lack of role models that athletes would play. Sports have been around since the beginning of time. As the games age and become more popular, they start to evolve and become more competitive at the same time. This evolution comes from better strategies, techniques, and ultimately the athletes themselves. Self serve checkouts can impact on agriculture and fisheries by needing more produce to be grown/farmed. Due to having attracted more people by having check outs so people don t have to wait in line. They also impact food processing and manufacture because they may need the barcodes on the products they sell to be longer/shorter or a specific way to work with the checkouts. It improves shopping within the food retail sector making it more efficient and easier to purchase goods. Self serve Checkouts can also impact on food service and catering they can run in grab what they need and quickly purchase and get back to food service and catering for customers. The online shopping app can impact on agriculture and fisheries due to the app being accessible to anyone with a smartphone meaning more people can order from home because they don t have to go into the store. • 47. Exxon Mobil Merger Essay Mergers and Acquisition: Exxon Mobil Merger Introduction Industry mergers or business combinations are a phenomenon that has been commonplace for quite some time now. They basically involve two or more organizations coming together to form a large corporate under which they operate. The new organization which may have a combination of the names of the merging components or a totally new name operates as a new entity. The new rule under which the new entity operates depends in the agreement on the terms of the merger. They turn all the energies that went into competition before to promote their joint product together. In my view, this kind of combination is easier than others since the two merging groups already understand their market and understand each other s product perfectly. In December 1, 1988, the Exxon and Mobil oil companies announced their intent to carry out a horizontal combination valued at approximately $80 billion. (CNN Money, 1998). The aim of this combination was to Create an oil entity rivaling the biggest in the world . The two chief executives Exxon s Lee Raymond and Mobil s Lucio Noto announced then that the main motive of their merger was to compete more effectively in the face of sharp drops in oil prices. One objective the bigger company was set to achieve would be to cut costs of operation so as to maximize profit. Industry analysts also said that it was a good prospect for the two firms to merge since many organizations at the time were slashing the pay of employees and making capital spending plans to cut costs. Under the terms of the agreement the new company would be called the Exxon Mobil Corp, retaining both the Exxon and Mobil brands, and the company will be headquartered in Exxon s home city of Irving, Texas. During acquisition, Exxon had a market value, premerger, of $175 billion, compared with $58.7 billion for Mobil. Exxon had a P/E ratio of about 23.6 versus 17.9 for Mobil. In such a painstakingly designed museum, this frame looks out of place. On these walls hang the memoirs of revered artists, but the empty frames scattered throughout remember something more tragic: the largest property theft in world history (Menconi, 2012). Head of security at the Gardner, Anthony Amore, refers to these empty frames as placeholders, not memorials and urges visitors to see them as a testament to their belief that they will reacquire the stolen paintings someday (Menconi, 2012). Furthermore, his art promotes a concentrated interest in which his name and the images he produced were empowered and endowed with meaning that encompassed anti authoritarian conduct, personal and political liberalism, republicanism, originality, and innovative creative powers (McQueen, 2003). For this research, the companies researched were chosen based on the independent variable of outcome success. When researching how operations and other factors affect a company s success, the testing needs to include companies with different success levels. If the data are based only on successful companies, there is not any comparison to show what they were doing differently to make them successful. For example, all of the successful companies have an owner, but that is not what makes them successful. All companies successful or not are owned by someone. The other studies that Rosenzweig explains are 1994 Built to Last: Successful Habits of Visionary Companies and 2001 Good to Great: Why Some Companies Make the Leap...and Other Don t. These studies are considered more accurate on the basis of successful companies being compared to less successful companies, but Rosenzweig points out a separate fault within. The latter cases did extensive research, but the majority of the data came from publications and articles published by journalists. Rosenzweig uses these to introduce the Halo Effect. He explains that these studies, though they are more thorough with the samples, the data are based on highly on biased information, instead of getting the raw data from the companies. Compare and Contrast Two Short Stories Compare and Contrast Two Short Stories Landlady by Roald Dahl and Chemistry by Graham Swift There are lots of great short stories out there, but in my opinion, both Chemistry by Graham Swift and The Landlady by Roald Dahl are two of the most unique and effective stories. They share both similarities and differences throughout. Comparing and contrasting the way the authors use their inimitable writing style to achieve their intentions in the story will give us more idea how these stories are alike and distinct. • 52. Favorite Homework Everyone s Least Favorite Chore A list of chores is pinned to the refrigerator to complete before my mother gets home from work. So far, I have vacuumed the carpet, cleaned my room, and swept the floor, but the most excruciating chore remains: washing the dishes. Washing the dishes would be quick and easy if I could stick the filthy dishes in the dishwasher, but it is broken. Instead, the mountain of foodcovered dishes will have to be scrubbed clean by hand. I will have to prepare the supplies, scrape off the remaining food, rinse and dry the dishes, and put them back in the cupboards and drawers. Washing the dishes is a messy and burdensome process every household must suffer through, unless they want to eat off of paper plates for the rest of their lives. To begin the dishwashing process, I dig out the supplies. Mentally preparing myself, I grab the dish soap, drain plug, towel, and sponge. After I have all of my supplies on the counter, I reach under the heaping pile of slimy plates, pans, pots, silverware, and glasses to place the drain plug in the sink. Next, I fill the sink with hot water to soften the dried food clinging to the dishes. I attempt to not make the water too hot, but usually I fail and nearly burn off my fingertips. Once the water is at an acceptable temperature, I squirt heaps dish soap into the running water until bubbles start to foam over the edge of the sink. To have the slightest bit of enjoyment in the otherwise grueling process, I scoop ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 53. When Bad Things Happen To Good People Analysis Introduction In the novel, When Bad Things Happen to Good People by Harold. S Kushner the theme of suffering was explored. Kushner attended Columbia University obtaining a BA and an MA. He was then ordained a Rabbi in 1960 and lead a very religious life. Kushner s young son was diagnosed with progeria, which causes his body to age quickly. He died when he was fourteen and this caused Kushner to question his faith. He decided to write this novel because of this; wanting to help others deal with their suffering and strengthen their faith. The religious and self help tone of the novel helped to convey his message very well. Objective Kushner begins by discussing simple answers that people have thought of to explain why bad things happen to good people. Next, he takes a closer look at four main causes as to why people suffer. First, sometimes there is no reason. The world is random and many things do not follow any particular order. This means that if someone gets hurt, they may have been in the wrong place at the wrong time. Kushner explains that God does not create this chaos, but tries to make order out of it. Second, the laws of nature do not make exceptions for nice people. If a rock is going to fall, it is going to fall whether someone is under it or ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
