The Q Magazine spread features Adele with a sophisticated black and white image and focuses on her achievements over the past year. It targets older audiences who listen to Adele's music.
The NME Magazine spread features Nicki Minaj with a bold, colorful pink image representing her pop music. It uses a lively design with different text sections and quotes to engage younger, female readers who are fans of Minaj.

The Q magazine contents page uses color, images, and layout to highlight key sections. Red page numbers stand out against black text. A large band photo promotes the main feature. It summarizes the key design elements like the color scheme, font sizes and styles, placement of images and text, and how these are used to effectively engage readers and promote stories and artists featured in the magazine. The color white is used prominently to make elements stand out, and bold colors, fonts, and headings are employed to draw the eye to important information. A close-up image of the featured artist covers most of the page to clearly advertise the main story. Simple colors are used throughout to appeal to an older audience interested in the content rather than an exciting design. This document summarizes what the author learned from creating a school magazine preliminary task and progressing to a full music magazine product.
The author notes that images were a weakness in the school magazine but were improved for the music magazine by using well-focused, appropriate images that related to stories. Fonts and text were also improved by choosing "cool" and "edgy" styles rather than childish fonts for the school task. Overall, the progression helped the author learn how to create higher quality images and design elements for a professional-looking magazine product.

Overall, the student feels they have improved in using software and hardware skills and knowledge of design conventions to create a magazine that looks more polished and appeals to the target audience.
The document discusses how the magazine represents particular social groups. It aims to attract both men and women but leans more towards women since there are few rock/indie magazines for women. It mainly targets people in social group C2 and appeals to white people more than other ethnic groups based on target audience research. The magazine represents women through strong female characters on the cover and contents page while also appealing to men through featured bands. The informal language, layout, and bands represented also target students and younger audiences.
The document summarizes how the student's media product uses, develops, and challenges conventions of real media products. The front cover follows conventions by including the date and issue number in typical locations. The contents page challenges conventions by only including two images instead of many, and develops conventions by placing headers between sections. The double page spread challenges conventions by only using one main image instead of multiple, and develops conventions by placing a quote directly on the image. Overall, the student aims to balance following conventions for professionalism while also experimenting with new designs.
The student learned several new skills when progressing from their preliminary college magazine to a full music magazine product. They learned to use Photoshop and InDesign tools more extensively to improve layouts, cover designs, and image editing. Specifically, they learned how to use effects like outer glow, use the magic wand and lasso tools, and transform images. They improved at incorporating codes and conventions to better suit the target audience. Overall, their skills with design software and understanding of professional magazine production improved.

A sample article will interview the band featured on the cover through images and text across two pages. Photographs will show the band practicing, performing live, and the singer passionately singing.

George Martin interviewed 4-6 people who are part of his target audience for a new rock music magazine. He asked them questions about their music preferences, what they look for in music magazines, and what content and design would attract them. Their responses highlighted preferences for articles on bands/artists, gig guides, and music news. They also preferred covers featuring a single image of a band and darker colors over several images or bright colors.
The document summarizes research on the rock/metal music genre. It lists 10 rock and metal bands, including Black Veil Brides, Muse, and Marilyn Manson. A brief history notes that rock and metal arose in the southern US through the merging of African musical traditions with European instrumentation. No imagery associated with the genre is mentioned.
