Looking back at your preliminary task, what do
you feel you have learnt in the progression from
              it to the full product?

I feel that I have developed massively from the preliminary task in terms of
the use of software such as photo shop. I now know how to effectively use
tools such as red eye tool to make my magazine look as professional as
possible so it is therefore more appealing to my target audience. This helped
me make my magazine fit most codes and conventions which furthers its
professional looks. Indesign made it simple for me to lay out my text in a
simple yet effective way making it appealing to my audience. The brightness
tool in photoshop meant I could make my photos bright which is what my
target audience wanted as shown in my questionnaire results. I used boxes
in both to set out my pages so that they could meet conventions. Stroke
made them stand out so that they became more appealing to read for my
readers. I also used this tool on cover lines and sub titles as it meant they
stood out from the rest of the page which would catch the readers eye and
encourage them to purchase my magazine. My skills improvement in both
programmes came through practising with various techniques to find the one
    that suited my best.

In my preliminary task I was not aware of many codes and
conventions that I now am. One of these was a matching colour
scheme. I had to different shades of purple on my 2 pages
giving a very amateurish feel to the student magazine. On my
contents page I also filled the page with various shapes that did
not suit a magazine once again making it look unprofessional.
The main image on the front cover is a fairly dark close mid
close up shot that could be improved on photoshop with the
skills I now have. Also the back ground is not plain which draws
away from the cover star giving an unprofessional feel. On my
college magazine, I believe that the colour scheme does not
work well as the green and purple do not go together making
some of the writing fairly hard to read and generally making it
look unprofessional. On the other hand, my music magazines'
colours work well with a good contrast making them bold and
    bright.

My contents page lacks serious structure for
the college magazine and there is no proper
use of columns but in my music magazine I
have clearly arranged into 3 sets of columns
making it easy for the reader follow. The
images I selected were also poor as many had
varying backgrounds that did not look
professional and some were blurred. For my
music magazine I made sure there was a good
variety of pictures in the contents that made it
look very professional and appeal to my target
    audience.

Altogether I feel that I have come along way
since the preliminary task in the use of software
to make my magazine look professional and
appealing, to the use of hardware such as
cameras making sure I get the correct shots for
my audience. I am now aware of more codes
and conventions that helped my magazine look
    professional.
