Introduction
Bheemrav Ramji Ambedkar, was also known as Babasaheb
Ambedkar, was an Indian jurist, economist, politician and social
reformer who inspired the dalit Buddhist movement and compound
against social discrimination towards the untouchables or dalits.
Ambedkar thought that education was a tremendous
importance of a foundation of progress. He did not visualise education
simply as a means for the development of a child's personality or as a
source of earnings once livelihood.
Definitions of education
“Education is what makes person fearless, teaches him the lesson of unity,
make him aware of his rights and inspire him to struggle for its rights”.
Education is a key of social progress. It makes man conscious of his rights as
well as obligations towards east follow beings.
Dr Ambedkar said education is not only the bright of every human being but
also a weapon of social change.
Education is the important weapon to raise the standard of living of the people.
We should give as much importance to the spread of education as we give
important to political moment. The progress of any society depends on the progress
of education in the society. Knowing that education is the way to progress in life
student should study hard and become lawyer leaders of the society.
Aims of education
 Universalization of education
 Development of intellectual capacities
 Moralization and socialization
 Create curiosity
 Development of insight
 Development of scientific approach
 Development of students personality
 Development of democratic values
 Character development
 In still a sense of self respect and dignity
Curriculum
Curriculum is considered as outline or statement of the main
point of a course of study or of books or other documents Ambedkar
opposed the hard and fast syllabus has it brings restrictions on the
teaching Curriculum should not be limited to the development of skill it
gives importance to behaviour organisation character development self
expression and self realization
Dr Ambedkar give much importance to science and
technology courses with other subjects like language history geography
etc Curriculum should be based on the principle of utility
Dr Ambedkar was in favour of a homogeneous curriculum
without any kind of discrimination Moral education and such activities
ensure value development in the citizen Emphasised physical activities
also so that homogeneous development maybe ensured.
Views on examination
Is severely criticized the examination system, which was closely
linked with the standard of education. It is one of the means to reach an
end. While giving alternative for a better education Dr.B.R.Ambedkar
recommended.
 Besides examinations, students work in colleges out to be taken into
account.
 For higher degrees there should be thesis and oral examination
Primary education
Primary education occupies a significant place in the educational
reconstruction of a developing country. Primary Education refers to
“free and compulsory education for all children until they complete the
age of 14 years”.
Higher education
Ambedkar stressed upon the minds of his people the importance of
self respect and self evolution. He encourages them to take higher
education for their progress. He thought that the progress of a
community always depend upon how it's members advanced in
education.
University education
Dr Ambedkar worked as a professor and afterwards as a principal of a college. He was
of the opinion that colleges should not separated from the university. Dr Ambedkar said that
the aim and function of the University education should be:
◦ To ensure that the teaching done that is suited to adults.
◦ That it is scientific detached and impartial in character.
◦ That it feels the mind of the students with fact.
Women's education
Dr BR Ambedkar thought that the downtrodden progress would be greatly accelerated
if mail education was pursued by side with female education. He strongly believes that if
women were educated the entire family will be educated.
Teachers and professors
No system of education can rise higher than its teachers. The
way of child-centred education can only be through teacher-centre
school. He declared that teachers were an charities of the nation.
According to Dr Ambedkar a teacher is a friend, philosopher
and guide of student. Teacher should know about the reality of the
society, so that they can make their teaching relevant to the real world.
He expects teacher to import education without any discrimination and
partiality on any bias.
Teaching method

 Practical approach
 Child centred
Student
Dr Ambedkar expects students to be unwavering and commendable to take
education.
 Student should be disciplined.
 Student should be always ready and curious to learn.
 Student should be aware and careful about is health also.
Conclusion
In this way we can say Dr. Ambedkar focus on education of
women’s as well as the least and also universalization of education.
Social freedom and emphasis more on education and character
development and also job oriented and skill based education. He also
give importance to the mother tongue as well as foreign languages.
Ambedkar took a pragmatic view of things considered education as a
means of self expression for building self esteem and character effort for
the education of masses without discrimination.
