The Importance Of Fighting During The Civil War
During the second battle, Henry ran. He didn t run just to run, he ran in fear. Henry saw soldiers
running through smoke in the field so he also decided to run. Just think, if you were sitting there
watching soldiers run, wouldn t you follow them? If Henry decided not to flee, he could ve been there
all alone and open to danger. The enemies could ve easily been right there with him. The reason why
Henry reacts this way is because of fear. The enemies had just finished fighting and Henry thought he
d have a break. It ended up that they started fighting right after the first battle. When Henry saw the
soldiers running through the smoke, he panicked and decided to run along with them. Don t you think
you would follow your soldiers to be safe?

Isolation In Me Before You, By Sylvia Plath And The Bell Jar
The novel The Bell Jar written by Sylvia Plath and the film Me Before You directed by Thea Sharrock
both explore the idea of isolation. Both the author and director use various techniques in their texts to
position the audience to understand that isolation makes a person withdraw from life and therefore
leads to their downfall. Techniques such as symbolism, motif, imagery, simile and visual and literary
techniques allow the author and director to deliver the message. Plath and Sharrock actively portray
that while being remote and withdrawn from life one cannot develop growth skills to overcome
struggles through the use of symbolism, while Plath further raises this through implementing a motif.
Both the author and director use symbolism to show the audience that both characters become
isolated. Plath utilised the bell jar to symbolise that Esther is gripped by the insanity in her mind that
is inescapable, compelling her to disengage from those around her and causes her loneliness. Plath
explored this further [VB1] as Esther became isolated through her mental breakdowns as during these
periods she did not want to get out of bed as the air of the bell jar wadded around her. She would be
sitting alienated under the same glass bell jar, stewing in my own sour air. Demonstrating to the
audience that although Esther can view the world, her perspective is distorted as the glass jar prevents
her from realistically perceiving life and the society [VB2] around her. Ultimately, this begins to cause
Esther s mental stability to diminish as she feels as though she does not belong in the world.
Positioning the audience to understand that Esther has struggled to find herself through her battle and
therefore becomes paralysed within her body. Plath further conveys this message as Esther felt that the
world itself is the bad dream illustrating to the audience that she is living in a constant nightmare of
her life and is unable to forget her past. Consequently it is the world that ostracises her, controlling her
and her emotions. Sharrock also highlighted the same message through utilising[VB3] Will s
wheelchair, symbolising his restrictions which induced his seclusion from the world due to his
confinement in a

Repairing the Problem with America s Transportation...
Repairing the Problem with America s Transportation System
There is a serious problem with our nation s roads and highways. I find myself repeatedly avoiding
trips to the city for this very reason, as I m sure many others do as well. This nerve wracking
congestion is even beginning to find its way into the suburbs and surrounding areas of large cities. It is
a serious problem that affects everyone who owns an automobile, as well as, businesses that are
dependent on reliable and convenient transportation. To top it all off, this problem is getting worse
every year. The population of this nation is growing, which translates to an increase in cars on the
road. More people are moving to cities and the suburbs that surround them, ... Show more content on

The Clinton administration proposed a plan called the National Economic Crossroads Efficiency Act,
or NEXTEA. I personally think they spent more time on the name of this act than on the actually
content of it. This plan will increase the amount of money in the Highway Trust Fund, yet reduce total
spending by $500 million. And the purpose of that is?????? you got me, I guess there isn?t a logical
one. The number of federal programs and non highway projects will also be increased, thus diverting
even more money away from are already under funded roads and highways (Fay 4).
Another pathetic attempt by the federal government was the 1991 transportation bill called the
Intermodal Surface Transportation Efficiency Act, yet more proof of Washington?s tremendous skill at
naming bills. But wait, this bill raised overall funding to record levels! Let?s examine it a little more
closely. It increased the number of non highway projects to be funded, including $30 million for a
moving sidewalk in Altoona, Pennsylvania. Now that makes me mad every time I think about it. A
moving sidewalk? In the end, this bill actually reduced the amount of money that was used for roads
and highways (Henderson 1). It is clear that Washington is not capable of or willing to handle our
transportation problems effectively.
My solution is to not let Washington ?screw? this problem up anymore and let the states and private
investors handle

Economic Evaluation Essay
The change in health profiles of the population and the evolution of medical technology have made
more explicit the gap between what medicine can do and what is economically feasible (Fuchs, 2000).
Resources to satisfy needs are scarce and every society must decide how better to allocate the scarce
resource among the different alternative uses. Economics tries to address the normative question of
which allocation of resources is best for the society. The answer to such question depends crucially on
the objective being pursued. When comparing different alternatives, under the classical assumptions of
competitive markets (the Arrow Debreu economy) and Pareto efficiency, a reallocation is said to be
efficient if no one in the economy is made ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is the so called Hicks Kaldor criterion, which allows making judgements about policies without
making inter personal comparisons. However, there are two problems with this criterion: marginal
utility of income must be the same across individuals and it may be the case that a movement back to
the original allocation increase welfare, so it would be impossible to define which allocation is better.
Also, the information that would be needed to collect makes the application of this criterion quite
infeasible.
This is the theoretical basis for many cost benefit studies in health care that rely on methods like
contingent valuation to measure benefits from health care interventions. If this is the theoretical basis
for cost benefit analysis, it means the acceptance of Pareto optimality concept and its related
distributional implications. Individual utility is what is being maximised and individuals are assumed
to be the best judges of their own welfare.
Given the limitations of the welfarist approach, some have argued to rely on explicit welfare functions
to aggregate individuals preferences and explicitly address the issues of distribution, but as Arrow
demonstrated, it is impossible to aggregate individual preferences in a coherent way. Working on the
Sen s ideas, it was showed that interpersonal comparisons were the

In 2000 the Compulsory Education Act codified compulsory education for children of primary school
age (excepting those with disabilities),[5] and made it a criminal offence for parents to fail to enroll
their children in school and ensure their regular attendance.[6]Exemptions are allowed for
homeschooling or full time religious institutions, but parents must apply for exemption from the
Ministry of Education and meet a minimum benchmark.[7] The main language of instruction in
Singapore is English, which was officially designated the first language within the local education
system in 1987.[8] English is the first language learned by half the children by the time they reach
preschool age and becomes the primary medium of instruction by the time they reach primary school.
Although Malay, Mandarin Chinese and Tamil are also official languages, English is the language of
instruction for nearly all subjects except the official Mother Tongue languages and the literatures of
those languages; these are generally not taught in English, although there is provision for the use of
English at the initial stages. Certain schools, such as secondary schools under the Special Assistance
Plan (SAP), encourage a richer use of the mother tongue and may occasionally teach subjects in
Mandarin Chinese. A few

Clothing During The Elizabethan Era
History has had many different Eras that helped shape the world today. The Elizabethan Era was one
of them. The Elizabethan Era was during the time of the Renaissance. It was a re birthed of the old

clothes during this time were different then what we wear today, a symbol of several religious and
economical ideas, and had an impact on how the people went about their lives.

Summary Of The Canterbury Tales And Miller s Tale
In Chaucer s The Canterbury Tales, there are 29 pilgrims making their way to Canterbury to see the
shrine to Thomas A Becket, who was martyred there. They are accompanied by Chaucer, the narrator,
and Harry Bailey, the host. The host proposes a storytelling contest to help pass the time. The Host is
the sole judge of the contest, and each story is judged on its entertainment and moral factors. The
winner will receive a free meal, paid for by all the other pilgrims upon their arrival back at the inn.
Each Pilgrim was to tell two stories on the way there, and two on the way back. The pilgrims stories
covered a large spectrum of subjects and morals along the way. The wide variety of the stories, in a
way, makes it easier for the judge to judge the stories, but also harder. A good example of two very
contrasting stories in the contest are the Miller s Tale and the Man at Law s Tale. The Man at Law s
Tale would have won the contest. Even though it is not in the same rhyme scheme, has a confusing
storyline and some evil characters, it is far more clean, moral, and appropriate than the adultery, lies,
and scandal of the Miller s Tale. Before The Miller s Tale, The Host encourages him not to go, because
he is too drunk, and will not be able to clearly tell a good story. He tells him, Now hold on, Robin,
dear old brother;/ We ll get some better man to tell another;/ You wait a bit. Let s have some common
sense. (21 23). The Miller responds to this angrily, saying God s soul,

The Importance Of Wild Mustangs
The Importance of Wild Mustangs
Over four hundred years ago, wild horses or mustangs as we call them, were introduced to North
America by the Spanish. As a result, these marvelous creatures have been roaming the land of the
United States ever since, and they have become a part of our history. Mustangs have played an active
role in our history by providing a means to travel, an expansion of our country, and as a natural beauty
to see in the wild: therefore, it is crucial to protect and oversee the care of these animals in an effective
manner.
In the early 1600s, American Indian horses were initially bred from Spanish horses that the Indians
had acquired from the Spaniards most likely by raiding Spanish missions and taking the horses ...

Not only could horses travel places that people couldn t, but they also had tougher legs and bodies that
were able to protect them better; making them more sustainable for travel. Some of the first Americans
who settled here were brought by the mustangs (Speir) and (American Expedition).
Wild mustangs are beautiful creatures when seen in their natural habitat. Photographs, videos, and in
person sightings of these animals have captured the attention of millions of people. Their fascinating
array of color, patterns, shapes, and sizes just add more to their wonderful appearance in our history. It
isn t just their beautiful colors that have an impact, but the beauty within and the beauty in their
overall nature. Mustangs haven t just captured the attention from millions of people, they have also
captured the attention of many famous individuals who have also had a key role in history; such
people include: Ulysses S. Grant, Zachary Taylor, Thomas Jefferson, and many more (Speir). Thomas
Jefferson asked a man named Philip Nolan to study the mustangs in Texas, and report his observations
to Jefferson.
A well known artist named Frederic Remington once stated that, Of all the monuments which the
Spaniard has left to glorify his reign in America, there will be none more worthy than his horse (qtd.
In Speir). What I believe to understand from this statement is when the Spanish came to America, they

The Negative Effects Of Social Media On Body Image
Approximately 80% of U.S. women don t like how they look. The number of women who feel
confident in their body is dwindling quickly and is being fueled by edited pictures they are comparing
themselves to on social media. In the article How Social Media Is a Toxic Mirror by Rachel Simmons
in Time magazine she tells of the risk for everyone to feel self conscious about their bodies. However,
those most at risk are teenage girls who spend a significant amount of time on any form of social
media. In response to the article, I agree with the information about body confidence and its negative
effects on body image of teenage girls. I also discuss how logos and pathos strengthen the article and
what would make it a stronger and more credible source for information on teen body image.
In the beginning of the article, the author shows a progression of teenage girls comparing their bodies
to those they see in movies and magazines for the previous generation to social media for millennials.
The ever evolving social media is constantly allowing for the opportunities to compare themselves to
unrealistic versions of the human figure. A world where there are hundreds of apps that can airbrush
everything from waist lines to teeth, teenage girls are having a harder and harder time separating the
ways their body should look and the way media thinks they should look. The article expresses concern
for the rate of which sources of comparisons for teenage girls bodies are multiplying.

A Review of the Doctrine of Agency by Necessity
INTRODUCTION: The doctrine of agency by necessity establishes that authority shall be assumed, in
a necessitous situation, by a person who acts in the interest of the principal. The Indian Contract Act
remains silent as to classification of the doctrine under any section, though many debate that it is to be
under the head of Section 189. This is an extremely ambiguous area in the law of agency, as there are
quite a few specific scenarios apart from the quintessential shipmaster , which are debatable as to
assumption of authority. In this paper, the concepts of the conditions prerequisite to the assumption of
authority shall be discussed, and then an analysis of the special situations of ambiguity with reference
to cases shall be addressed. ANALYSIS Normally, the authority conferred to an agent by his principal
stands as the limits, beyond which any action taken by the agent has no legal validity and makes the
agent liable. But if the circumstances are so demanding, such that the interests of the principal are at
stake due to a situation of emergency, the law confers certain extraneous rights on the agent which
empower him to take certain measures, even those extending to changing the legal position of the
principal, so as to protect the principal s interests. Even in such cases, there are some conditions to be
satisfied. These conditions are, (1) it must be impracticable for the agent to communicate with the
principal, (2) the act of the agent must be absolutely

Cecil Rhodes Imperialism
Between the year of 1853 and 1902, the rulers of the European countries were enthusiastic about
increasing their kingdoms for financial profits especially the British. In the article Confession of Faith
, great imperialist and wealthy diamond mine owner Cecil Rhodes emphasizes his thoughts about
Britain s right to fight for land. Rhodes thoughts explained the beliefs that imperialism was the way to
political and profitable success and explains how British managed to expand its nation. To understand
the reason behind Rhodes thoughts, here is a little history about him and his personal success. A poor
health child from Hertfordshire, was forced to stay at home while his brothers were sent off to better
schools. Later Cecil Rhodes moved to South Africa to improve his well being. Rhodes later founded
the state of Rhodesia, known as Zimbabwe. He established a foundation for his wealth by working
diamond mines in South Africa. His work paid off by investing in money. Rhodes was truly a

Ronald Reagan Ethos
President Reagan in his grief driven, yet inspiring speech Explosion of the Space Shuttle Challenger
Address to the Nation, he expresses the nation s collective anguish in the wake of the accident. Reagan
s purpose is to praise the lost astronauts for their service and assure to NASA and the rest of America
that, even if these deaths happened, they should continue working towards space explorations for
future generations. He adopts a somber yet reflective tone in order to evoke a sense of a silver lining
in the minds of the American families across the nation. To do so, Ronald Reagan utilizes the three
rhetorical appeals: ethos, pathos, and logos.

He first commemorates the pioneers of space for their service, noting their courage and painstakingly
stating each of their names slowly and reverently. He is giving life to the astronauts, working to show
the audience that these are not just two words on a procter, but courageous trailblazers on a mission to
pursue their dreams of space exploration for America. Reagan is trying to establish their emotions to
bridge this gap from random stranger to fallen hero and draw much needed respect for them in the
wake of this tragedy, and solace for their loved ones. Reagan even addresses the schoolchildren
watching their teacher die upon launch and states that sometimes painful things like this happen (6).
Reagan knows that the children are going to be the future astronauts and shuttle engineers, so he is
essentially trying to reassure them that, though this is what can happen to pioneers, this is the only
way progress can be made. If he doesn t do this, people start to question the necessity for continuing in
this race for space and ultimately doubt the need to fund NASA. Reagan chooses to address these

Overpopulation Is Still The Problem
In the article Overpopulation Is Still the Problem, Alon Tal (2013) claims that overpopulation remains
the number one problem facing the world today and discusses various problems and possible
solutions. Tal unveils the falsely assuring news stories refuting overpopulation as a problem. He
particularly dissects Ellis Erle s assertions, in the New York Times, concerning China s seemingly
magical works of technology. Erle comes to the conclusion that China s amazing technology has and
will always be able to keep them out of any problems regarding overpopulation. Of course Tal is able
to rhythmically rebut Erle s claims by explaining that, Anyone with a teaspoon of historic sensibilities
about the country s environmental history might want to mention its long litany of famines which
occurred precisely because carrying capacities were consistently outstripped by a growing population .
Tal then goes on to explain other problems linked directly to overpopulation in China like the food
crisis from 1958 1961 which led to the starvation of over 20 million people. He also discusses the
Chinese one child policy describing it as tough medicine although the application of the policy was
flawed he depicts how it has prevented the next round of famines. Tal ties the China population
problems into the rest of the article which is mainly about how quickly the world is growing and what
we need to do about it. He presents distressing facts like 1 in 8 people in the world suffer from

The Role of Sight, Scent, and Sound by the White-tailed Deer
Use and relative role of sight, scent, and sound by white tailed deer (Odocoileus virginianus) to locate
and select between different types of foods
Introduction
The foraging habits of white tailed deer (Odocoileus virginianus; hereafter deer) have been
extensively researched. Studies have evaluated seasonal influence as well as other environmental
influences on forage selection by deer (Moen 1981, Rogers et al. 1981, McCullough 1985, and
others). However, no such research has ever tested to determine what senses deer use to locate and
select between different food types or the relative importance of each sense involved in that process.
We are missing much of the basic knowledge of physiology and anatomy related to the sensory
capabilities of deer (D Angelo et al. 2006). Information from this type of research is becoming
increasingly important to wildlife biologists, as they can use it to improve other forage selection
studies aimed at reducing crop depredation or other wildlife damage. So little is known about the role
of sight, smell, and sound in deer ability to locate and select between forage types, therefore
quantitative information in this area of research needs further attention (Sayre et al. 1992). By
understanding the importance of each sense in the location and selection of different food types by
deer, new studies can be set up that focus on the most important sense, while also considering what
effects the other senses have on their behavior. As

In the European level, EU are also did a lot of work trying to leading member states participate on the

concept of soft law management measures are used to implementation of the EU activates. This has

Strongest Electromagnet
Our period five class was given the challenge of which group could make the strongest electromagnet
out of the materials we were given. We propose that in order to build the strongest electromagnet we
should, use thick copper wire with a length of two meters, an iron nail, four batteries and the
temperature will be colder than room temperature. Based on the data we collected in our trials, we
believe the materials we use will create the strongest electromagnet. We first propose using thick
copper as the material we chose for wire type. We propose using thick copper because, in the trials,
the electromagnet with string wire could only hold 0 filings, the electromagnet with aluminum
material could hold 31 filings and the electromagnet with a copper wire could hold 83 pieces of filing.
The pattern shows ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We did not get to test the material for the ferromagnet, but according to an article written by
www.irm.umn.edu, However, the versatility of iron carbon alloys cannot be matched in any other
material. We also propose to use two meters of thick copper rather than one meter. The more material
you have the more coils you will have around the ferromagnet. When we tested the number of coils
around a ferromagnet, we found that no coils held 0 filings, fifty coils held 83 filings but 100 coils
could hold 167 filings. Therefore the more wire you have, the more times you can coil the
ferromagnet, which can make the strongest electromagnet. Next, we propose to use four batteries as
our power source rather than using three, two, or one battery. When we tested the number of batteries,
we found that one battery held 14 paper clips, two batteries held 19 paper clips, but 3 batteries could
hold 24 paper clips. Although we did not test using four batteries, we could predict by using
proportions that 4 batteries could hold about 32 paperclips. The pattern shows that more batteries

Effects Of Common Law Burglary
1. Has this man committed common law burglary?
Common law burglary is the trespassory breaking and entering of the dwelling house of another, in the
nighttime, with the specific intent to commit a felony therein.
A dwelling is a place regularly used to sleep and Nighttime is the period when the countenance of a
person cannot be discerned by natural sunlight.
A strange man demanded that Amanda let him in her home (dwelling house), at 11 o clock at
night(nighttime) with the threatening gesture of pulling out a gun. Once inside, he took her money,
engagement ring, and left (intent and committing a felony). His crime meets all the elements of
common law burglary, except breaking by actual force. However, several circumstances of entering by
constructive force constitute breaking
Constructive force constitutes breaking when its obtained with: entry by fraud, threatening the use of
force, entry through a chimney, or having a servant or coconspirator open the door from the inside.
The stranger broke into Amanda s home when she declined to let him in the first time, he pulled out a
gun in a gesture to threaten harm. She opened the door out of fear for her life. Thus, a breaking in with
constructive force.
Therefore, a common law burglary has been committed.

Hohenzollern Research Paper
Although the history of the House of Hohenzollen dates back to the 11th century, I am more intrigued
with the more modern 1800 s and the rulers of that era. My paper is based on this and includes two
people whom I think were the most effective leaders within the royal family. The house of
Hohenzollern is said to be a noble family and royal dynasty of prince electors, kings and emperors of
Prussia, Germany, and Romania. Its origin is based from an area around the town of Hechingen in
Swabia during the eleventh century. The name was taken from their ancestral home (the Burg
Hohenzollern Castle). The family split into two groups, the Catholic Swabian branch and the
Protestant Franconian branch. Hechingen was ruled by the Swabian branch until their extinction in
1869. The Franconian branch was comparatively more successful. Branches within the Franconian
branch ascended the throne of Margravate of Brandenburg in 1415 and of the Duchy of Prussia in
1525. The union of these two Franconian branches, in 1618, allowed the creation of the Kingdom of
Prussia in 1701, the state which led the unification of Germany and the creation of the German Empire
in 1871. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Marine Debris In The Florida Keys
Abstract:
Marine debris was collected and placed into categories at Long Key State Park in the Florida Keys.
Data was taken on Thursday, March 26th, 2015. The total number of debris collected totaled at 835
items. The most common type of marine debris collected during this experiment was assorted plastics
totaling at 513 pieces (61.43%). Many of the debris collected where small and unidentifiable.
Introduction:
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) define marine debris as any
persistent solid material that is manufactured or processed and directly or indirectly, intentionally or
unintentionally, disposed of or abandoned into the marine environment (NOAA, 2015). Marine debris
is classified into two categories: ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For millennia, terrestrial plant matter, seeds, and driftwood have travelled across the open oceans with
the help of surface currents. Even floating islands, also known as tussocks, floatons, or sudds are
common in many Florida lakes and across the world (Mallison, C.T., 2001). These islands have been
known to carry exotic plants and vertebrate animals. Floating islands promote trans ocean dispersal of
marine and terrestrial organisms. This increases biodiversity and helps new barren islands thrive.
However, in the last five decades, with the growing number of plastics in the marine environment, the
dispersal and occurrence of these organisms has increased exceedingly (Gregory, R.M., 2009). This
paves the way for invasions by alien and even aggressive invasive species to establish themselves in
new ecosystems beyond their native range. A survey done in 2009 reported that over 150 marine
species have established themselves due to marine debris stranded on the shores of northern New
Zealand. Most of these organisms were identified as crustaceans. Four of those organisms discovered
are featured in figure 3. Specimen A shows various crustaceans on unknown plastic, specimen B
depicts warm water Indo Pacific oysters growing on nylon rope, specimen C depicts crustaceans

of the current study was to examine the subjective experiences of weight related oppression of
individuals who are, or have been, of large body size (Davis Bowman, 2015). Individuals who are of

According to Davis Bowman (2015)one potential limitation in the current study is related to language,
in that participants utilized words such as overweight, obese, fat, heavy, and large interchangeably to
refer to body size and/or weight. An additional limitation is related to the sample used within this
study (Davis Bowman, 2015). After examining the identified topic I feel that this qualitative grounded
theory research approach was conducted and is cohesive to the identified topic. References Davis, H.

The Painting Square At La Trinite
The painting Square at La Trinité (Le Square de La Trinité) (1875) by Pierre Auguste Renoir is located
at the RISD museum in Providence, RI. This is an oil painting on canvas, surrounded by an ornate
gold frame. Square at La Trinité is a pastel colored landscape scene with nature, figures and buildings
in the background. The main focus of the painting is the two people in the right hand corner, one a
female and the other a male who are strolling through a lively garden. During the 19th century
impressionist artists wanted to capture life as they saw it happening. Another artist who had a similar
style to Renoir was Monet who painted works such as Beach at Trouville (1870) where he painted his
wife sitting on the beach taking part in middle class leisure. Renoir s work demonstrates the
impressionist technique important to the 19th century, evident by the way he captured middle class
leisure in a modern subject matter.
In Square at La Trinité there are very prominent vertical lines. The two figures in the right corner of
the painting are vertical figures and are what the viewer is initially drawn to when first looking at the
image. Another really distinct vertical line is the tree on the left hand side of the painting. That tree
stands out in particular because of its dark color compared to the right side of the painting. The
buildings in the background are made up of both horizontal and vertical lines. The roof and windows
in particular are examples of horizontal lines. The

Quantitative And Qualitative
With qualitative and quantitative most psychological researchers use both types of methods. In
particular, qualitative methods are widely used as exploratory methods; then the results of qualitative
analysis are used to design quantitative research. What is the difference between quantitative and
qualitative research? In this essay I will go into more detail on these two forms of research looking at
the definition, strengths, limitations and key features of each research method.
Qualitative research focuses on gathering of mainly verbal data rather than measurements. The
gathered information is then analyzed in an interpretative or subjective manner. The primary aim of a
qualitative research is to provide a complete, detailed description of the research topic. It is usually
more exploratory in nature.
Qualitative research is multi method in focus, involving an interpretive, ... Show more content on

This allows the researcher to find issues that are often missed (such as subtleties and complexities) by
the scientific, more positivistic enquiries. Qualitative descriptions can play the important role of
suggesting possible relationships, causes, effects and dynamic processes. Qualitative analysis allows
for ambiguities and also contradictions in the data, which is a reflection of social reality. Qualitative
research uses a descriptive, narrative style, this research might be of particular benefit to the
practitioner as she or he could turn to qualitative reports in order to examine forms of knowledge that
might otherwise be unavailable, thereby gaining new insight. Qualitative research see s people as
individuals, attempting to gather their subjective experience of an event. This can provide a unique
insider view of the research question through the qualitative approach, which is less structured than a

The combined reduction of the costs regarding water, which is about 80% reused, wastewater
surcharges and lower energy costs (Boston CityBizList, 2015) can mean an economy of up to $2 per

breweries, as the largest ones have their own systems, this reduction is very significant. This is not
counting the significant environmental gains.

Hierarchy In America
Hierarchy, a system or organization in which people or groups are ranked one above the other
according to status or authority. In the United States, hierarchy is not uncommon. In Americanah by
Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, Ifemelu an African immigrant from Nigeria experiences the reality of
what the American Dream truly is like for an immigrant. Adichie uses her character s life as to show
how race affects her in America. Ifemelu moved to the United States with the illustration that she
would easily be able to get a job, go to school, find love and be able to send money home in Nigeria.
Instead, she was faced with many obstacles like racism. Racism is one of the major social issues of the
modern world. It affects millions of people worldwide and is one of the deepest social problems in the
United States.

racism is absurd because it s about how you look. Not about the blood you have. It s about the shade

Stories such as these prompted men like Columbus and, later, Coronado, to seek out the elusive Seven
Cities of Antilia, regardless of the cost in time, men, and finances. They were sure the island was out

The legend was so ingrained in European society that most believed Columbus had found Antilia

Sleep Is An Important Factor
Both the conscious and unconscious mind revolve around one fundamental aspect of human function:
sleep. While there exists many different theories about the exact function of sleep, it is scientifically
proven that this phenomenon keeps the brain working efficiently. The body possesses many states of
consciousness, both conscious and unconscious. Sleep is the ring leader of the unconscious mind, and
makes sure the body runs healthy while we are blissfully unaware of our surroundings. Sleep has
always been a behavior that integrates itself into everyday life. In fact, we spend about one third of our
life sleeping. Often times people take sleep for granted, but it is essential in order to feel refreshed.
While we are sleeping, the hypothalamus regulates body functions. (Swann, 2013). Seven to nine
hours of sleep is necessary for the brain to restore. Sleep is an important factor because it affects one s
health. The amount of sleep a person gets at night can affect their academic performance, number of
accidents, amount of injuries, and an increase in the chance of obesity. (Noland et al, 2009). Numerous
attributes that interrupt one s sleep are sleeping disorders, the amount of stress in one s life, alcohol
consumption, caffeine intake, homework load, school hours, jobs, and management skills. (Noland et
al, 2009). An average, healthy person falls asleep in about ten minutes. During this time, a person will

The Day Of My Father Essay
I was born in Leon, in the Mexican state of Guanajuato, Mexico, on August 15, 1999, at Saint Luis
General Hospital. The day of my birth, my father decided to name me Fabian. While growing up in
Wisconsin, some people found it difficult to pronounce my name correctly, so my friends shorten it to
Fab. My parents moved to Racine in 1999 because a lot of our relatives had already moved to Racine.
My father was born in Leon, Guanajuato. He never enjoyed school. He found school to be boring. So
he spent most of his time playing goalkeeper for his team. At the age of 15, my father was in his last
year of school, this was when he met my mother. My mother enjoyed school because she loved to
learn new things and she was in the top of her class. An unlikely pair formed when my mother was
appointed to tutor my father. After a while, they started to go out and within three years of dating, they
got married and my mother gave birth to my eldest brother. This meant my father had to get serious
about work since he had a child to raise. I have a great deal of respect for my parents for taking jobs to
raise me and my siblings, and I am thankful for their hard work. Their hard work pushed me to
become the best I could be. They sacrificed their stead life in Mexico for a high risk life that gave me
the opportunity to have a better life.

The Benefits Of Human Reproductive Cloning
In measuring the benefits, human reproductive cloning would be advantageous to the well being of
humans and because it is a fulfillment of personal autonomy. Firstly, this technique is a sound method
for infertile couples to have a genetically related child and it is a method to provide a patient medical
treatment in a form of gene therapy or organ transplants (Hayry 2003). Secondly, the value of personal
self governance has been emphasized by human traditions in which the liberty of individuals is seen as
important to individuals in our society today. Cloning would promote the well being of some
individuals without violating any person s autonomy and conclusively is rational that people s
reproductive choice is not a realm to be interfered. In measuring the infliction of harm directly, the
technique is deemed to be generally unsafe, as experiments with other mammals show that it is likely
to cause physical harm to the clones (Sanchez Sweatman 2000). Indirectly, there is a strong likelihood
for social resentment and discrimination towards clones which would be a form of psychological and
social deprivation. The discrimination in modern society is abundant of discrimination and social
resentment towards any sort of deviant of the social norm, even belated to the introduction of human
clones into society. Specifically looking discrimination under sexual orientation, based on statistics

Hopelessness of the Irish in Nineteenth Century England
Throughout my research into the subject of the Irish in England s industrial north during the early
nineteenth century, one fact became quite clear; contemporary writers treatment of the Irish was both
minimal and negative. I consulted many sources, Friedrich Engels, Leon Faucher, James Kay
Shuttleworth to name but a few and the reoccurring theme as pertaining to the Irish in all these works
was mainly consistent; the Irish were a lazy, vulgar people prone to drinking and brawling.

These changes diminished the amount of industrial labour available for harvesting purposes in

He continues, stating that the Irish were represented throughout most of the agricultural districts of

The harvesters landing at Liverpool seem to have spread across the country from Lancashire to

they were regarded as indispensable there through the scarcity of English agricultural labour. 2.
Although welcome by the English farmers as a surplus pool of cheap, temporary labour, the English
harvesters still in existence were not quite as pleased. Most Irish were willing to work for much lower
wages than their English counterparts and thus were blamed for driving down the wages of all. In
defense of the Irish, even the lowest wages offered in England represented a higher standard of living
to them than that they experienced back home. Thus, most Irish were willing to work for what the
English considered starvation wages. Although this led to some riots between the Irish and English

Hydrogen Peroxide And Catalase Reaction Lab
The rate of reaction between Catalase and the hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) can vary depending on
many factors including the enzyme concentration in a solution. In this investigation, the rate of
reaction will be measured by the change in temperature of the liquefied spinach (catalase) over a
period of 30 seconds, once the hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) has been added into the solution.
It is expected that the change in temperature will initially increase as the concentration of the Catalase
increases in the hydrogen peroxide (H2O2). As more Catalase is added into the hydrogen peroxide
(H2O2), the rate of reaction is expected to increase due to a higher concentration of enzyme present
and therefore a greater frequency of successful collisions between the enzyme and substrates resulting
in a faster breakdown of the substrate. However, as the concentration of the Catalase approaches
100% concentrated, it is expected for the change in temperature (reaction rate) to plateau. This occurs
as there is only a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The hypothesis stated that if the concentration of Catalase increases from 25%, 50%, 75%, and 100%,
then the percentage difference in the temperature (degrees) of the liquefied spinach will increase, until
the Catalase is no longer the limiting factor, and thus the temperature difference (degrees) will plateau.
The hypothesis was tested by adding 50ml of hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) into four different
concentrations of Catalase (25%, 50%, 75%, and 100%). The temperature of the Catalase was
measured before and 30 seconds after the hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) had been added. It was
discovered that the rate of reaction initially increased as the concentration of Catalase increased, but
started to plateau after the 75% concentrated catalase. Therefore, the hypothesis of this experiment

The fact that essential oils cannot be patented is a real shame, because large drug companies will not

Additionally, the lack of research means that most mainstream practitioners will never recommend

Meaningful And Ethical Assessment In Early Childhood
When referring to assessment in the early childhood arena, providing evidence of a child s learning is
vital. In order to provide this, an extensive range of methods are used to identify childrens abilities.
According to Puckett and Black (2008), assessment is embedded for a variety of purposes to
determine, develop and analyse student progress and to generate an informed view of the child s level
of understanding which meets mandated and accountability conditions. This assignment investigates
the significance of meaningful and ethical assessment, current theories and philosophies, key
principles and practices all within early childhood with focus around a kindergarten perspective. This
assignment will also professionally critique a transition ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This principle supports continuity and a sense of collaboration between all stakeholders. The holistic
approach draws on my relevant understanding of the child s former experiences and builds on my
ability to engage and construct an effective teaching and learning cycle. An example of this was
evident on my field experience when I designed a literacy learning experience around persuasive texts.
Prior to this, I communicated, observed and documented the interests and understandings of the
children at that point in time, which allowed me to create experiences based on the child s preferred
method of learning. The lesson supported both practical and oral forms of learning. For further
development, in my upcoming field experience I aim to embody a holistic approach through the
teaching and assessing through the child s natural environment, utilizing a range of resources,
strategies and modes whereby no child is marginalized in their learning and

The Effects Of Cell Phone Use On Driving Performance And...
Aneci Persuitti ENGC 1101 SEC 43 December 15, 2014 The Effects of Cell Phone Use on Driving
Performance and Safety As technology advances, people are relying on it more and more. Cell phones
have literally become a necessity. Every day on the roads, people are driving and using their cell
phones to talk, text, browse the internet, use GPS, etc. According to the International
Telecommunication Union, the number of mobile cellular subscriptions worldwide is approaching the
number of people on earth. Mobile cellular subscriptions will reach almost 7 billion by end 2014,
corresponding to a penetration rate of 96% (3). If the number of cell phone subscribers reaches the
world s population by the end of 2014, almost every driver will have a cell phone in their car and
consequently, more drivers will be using them while driving. Can cell phone use while driving affect
driving performance and safety? The answer is yes. There are several studies related to the effect of
cell phone use on driving performance and these studies share very similar findings. In one study,
researchers Lesch and Hancock wanted to know if drivers were aware of their driving performance
when using a cell phone. The driver s driving performance was associated with the driver s confidence
level and distraction level. In particular, the higher the confidence level, the better the driving
performance was shown by the driver. The study found that male drivers had a greater confidence
level than females, while

On page 67 of the book, it says Maybe they thought a teenagers testimony wouldn t uphold the legal
system this meant that even if she put so much emphasis and effort into it she would still be
humiliated and doubted. Yet, the neglect and humiliation made her even stronger and caused her to to
keep moving forward even if it meant going to jail. After her arrest she found out that a adult had
finally stood up, but all the attention that was given to her quickly ended and it was given the adult
that was arrested. In the book it says I heard on the news that it was Rosa Parks the negro woman who

taken away and she felt left out on all that was going on. Colvin attempted to change society while

Templar Knights
The Templar Knights are often associated with the Mary Magdalene controversy. They are mentioned
in The Da Vinci Code a number of times and are historically, a mystery. In The Da Vinci Code it says
that the Templars found documents in the Temple of Solomon of Magdalene s personal account of her
relationship with Jesus, and the quest for the Holy Grail was to kneel at the bones of the sacred
feminine. It further states that the Templars guarded the secret of the sangreal documents with the
members of the Priory of Sion. These documents would have discussed Jesus child and his marriage
and therefore the Templars were protecting the bloodline. There is no biblical evidence or gnostic
evidence to prove this theory true, but there is still a connection between the Templar knights and
Mary Magdalene. The Templar Knights were crusaders around the tenth ... Show more content on

Cathars were notably anti marriage and anti sex so it would seem unlikely for them to make up this
belief, or endorse it in the first place. According to Lynn Picknett [The Cathars] idea of Jesus and
Mary Magdalene being sexual partners can hardly have been the result of wishful thinking on their
part. In fact they struggled with several different theological justifications to explain the marriage,
something that would not have exercised them so greatly if they felt they could dismiss the story as
complete nonsense. (Picknett 94) The Cathars were killed in the Albigensian Crusade from 1209 to
1229 which first started with the Massacre of Beziers, on the feast day of St. Mary Magdalene. Some
theorists say that the fact that the massacre happened on the Cathar celebration of St. Mary Magdalene
shows that the Catholic church was threatened by the Cathar s ideas regarding Mary and Jesus.
Although there is no way this can be proven, it does strike many researchers as an odd

Helped by Her Son During Abusive Relationship in The...
In Mother the audience is lead on a journey of strengthening and renewed youthfulness as the mother
becomes increasingly active in her son s movement. For twenty years the mother was held captive to
an abusive, maddened husband whom constantly hurt the mother. During this time the mother became
accustomed to her situation and only her son s movement change this outlook on life. Gorky uses dark
imagery and diction to portray the evolution of the mother from a fearful, weak person to a strong,
youthful participant in her son s movement. Pavel s recurring kindness and openness to the mother
allowed the mother to move forward but with the removal of Pavel her crutch is snatched from her and
she falls. When the gendarmes arrived it is made ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Despite her injured state this realization only strengthens her understanding of her son s movement
and forces her to stop using Pavel as a crutch. So strong is her resentment and new understanding that
the mother embraces the movement to the point of wanting to be arrested as well. There is a moment
when she, in her mournful, but enlightened state, seems to hallucinate about the gendarmes. It seemed
to her that she almost heard the jingling of their spurs (pg. 75). The mother has despite the
circumstances come to understand herself as an individual in her son s movement, not just his mother
and supporter. The gendarmes she now imagines as coming not only for her son but also for her. In the
end the mother has completely moved on from her previous life. Now she understands and as a result
wishes that they had taken [her], too! (pg. 75) as she is also in the movement that they so desperately
want to end. The mother begins as a hopeless, accepting, slave to society s way of life, but over time
comes to understand that there is something more. Her husband was and the other men are trapped in a
way of life that promotes cruelty; a dark and hopeless life. Contradictory to this Pavel becomes the
light out and shows the mother that society does not have to be trapped in cruelty. There is a way to
life that is good, where people help each other and this is what the mother comes to except in this

The Effects Of Monopolies On The Economy Essay
Monopolies People have been doing anything in their power to gain money. Many think they are
leading the competition with doing nothing wrong. Others see it as unfair to do the things that
monopolies have done to society. Lawsuits have been made to stop the ones behind this, but some
monopolies weren t always out to hurt the economy, but to help it. Monopolies have impacted this
economy in the past and even to this day. Way back in 1932, Charles todd and his wife decided to
introduce a new game to some fellow friends. It was a real estate board game. They sat around playing
the game by rolling the dice and buy properties. The couple liked it so much that they asked Charles if
he would make them their own set to play with. Charles began to show more and more people the
game, and then began applying more and more rules to it. Many began to ask the name of the game,
and where it came from. They also asked about the rules, who had come up with them. Charles had no
answer for them. Where it did start was in 1903 from woman named Elizabeth Magie that lived in
Washington DC. She spent many late nights trying to come up with a perfect board game. The main
idea she a was going for was a game that represented current day s political problems. Drawing after
drawing she finally had the game. Elizabeth spoke to the public about her game. The game included
buying and selling railways, houses, hotels, paying taxes, collecting annual income, and if you

Compare And Contrast Humans And Chimpanzees
Humans and Chimpanzees are more alike than most people think, specifically, in regards to behavioral
characteristics. This paper will attempt to highlight some of these characteristics. We will compare and
contrast the social dynamics, eating habits, the use of tools as well has various forms of
communication used by chimpanzees and humans. Findings will suggest that human behavior is
linked to a common ancestor to humans and chimpanzees. Chimpanzees are very social primates.
They can be found, much like humans, living in, and relying on communities to sustain themselves
(Gill 2016). One example is the fact that security is very important and male chimpanzees are often
observed patrolling their territory in groups (Lang 2016) much like police officers patrol their
jurisdiction to ensure their territory is safe. The example of chimpanzees securing their perimeter also
illustrates how territorial they are. In fact, they are just as territorial as humans. Imagine if someone
walks through a stranger s front door uninvited. In a lot of households, the unwelcome intruder could
be either imprisoned, shot or otherwise chased off depending on the circumstances. Further expanding
on social habits of chimpanzees, their communication habits should not be overlooked. They have
several and many different ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We see a lot of behavior similarities between humans and chimpanzees. The similarities found in
chimpanzee behavior seems to be a primitive version of our behavior suggesting that we have a
common ancestor with them. If humans and chimpanzees come from a common ancestor, we have to
ask why humans evolved to be so much more advanced than chimpanzees. Perhaps chimpanzees didn
t need to further evolve to ensure their survival. Perhaps the only way humans can survive is with
large brains and complex social

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Price Escalation
In India, Government departments, organizations, public sector undertakings have adopted different
formulae to compensate the contractor on the price variations of materials, labour and Petroleum, Oil
and Lubricant
(POL). Reimbursements for price escalation are provided in the Central and
State government construction contracts namely Central Public Works
Department, Military Engineer Services, Tamil Nadu Public Works
Department. Reimbursement of material price escalation is calculated based on Whole sale Price
Index (WPI) and Labour escalation is calculated based on the Consumer Price Index (CPI).

These areas should be noted and monitored by industry practitioners during all stages of the
construction process. The most common contributing factors in claims were increase in scope of the
work, weather, restricted access, and acceleration. Categories of claims that were mentioned in the
largest number of claims were site overhead, loss of productivity, loss of revenue, and financing costs.
Contract clauses that were quoted in the claims were most commonly in the areas of delays,
scheduling, and increase in the scope of work. The special consideration should be given to contract
clauses dealing with changes/extras, disputes, soil/site conditions, and delay. The essential steps an
owner can take to minimize risks and deal with the identified causes are to allow reasonable time for
the design team to produce clear and complete drawings and specifications, to use value engineering
and implement constructability during the different stages of the project, to provide a proper
mechanism for processing and evaluating change orders that pay for direct costs, indirect costs, and
loss of productivity associated with any changes if any, to use critical path method scheduling, cost

Examples Of Categorisation
Categorisation is not a matter to be taken lightly. There is nothing more basic than categorisation to
our thought, perception, action and speech. Every time we see something as kind of thing, for
example, a tree, we are categorising. Whenever we reason about kinds of things (...) we are employing
categories. Whenever we intentionally perform any kind of action (...) we are using categories .
(Lakoff 1987: 6)
We categorise all physical objects and motor activities we come across in our everyday life and we
make decisions based on those categories. Without the ability to categorise, we could not function at
all, either in the physical world or in our social and intellectual lives. An understanding of how we
categorise is central to any understanding of how we think and how we function, and therefore central
to an understanding of what makes us human . (Lakoff 1987: 6) Although traditional Aristotelian view
on categories provides answers that differ from the recent research, both classical and cognitive
theories see categorisation as crucial to understanding how human beings make sense of experience
and how they communicate. Categorization is basic to human thought, perception, action, and speech.

Only truthfulness of the statement prevents language, and our understanding of what is said, from

an arbitrary decision to adopt one name rather than another, but as part of an ongoing social processes
with its own momentum . (Harris Taylor 1997: 24). Second point on stability Aristotle mad was that
there is a (...) connection involving the stability of names which no previous thinker had seen . (Harris

If Henry decided not to flee, he could ve been there all alone and open to danger. The enemies could ve easily been right there with him. The reason why Henry reacts this way is because of fear. • 3. Isolation In Me Before You, By Sylvia Plath And The Bell Jar The novel The Bell Jar written by Sylvia Plath and the film Me Before You directed by Thea Sharrock both explore the idea of isolation. Both the author and director use various techniques in their texts to position the audience to understand that isolation makes a person withdraw from life and therefore leads to their downfall. Techniques such as symbolism, motif, imagery, simile and visual and literary techniques allow the author and director to deliver the message. Plath and Sharrock actively portray that while being remote and withdrawn from life one cannot develop growth skills to overcome struggles through the use of symbolism, while Plath further raises this through implementing a motif. Both the author and director use symbolism to show the audience that both characters become isolated. Plath utilised the bell jar to symbolise that Esther is gripped by the insanity in her mind that is inescapable, compelling her to disengage from those around her and causes her loneliness. Plath explored this further [VB1] as Esther became isolated through her mental breakdowns as during these periods she did not want to get out of bed as the air of the bell jar wadded around her. She would be sitting alienated under the same glass bell jar, stewing in my own sour air. It is a serious problem that affects everyone who owns an automobile, as well as, businesses that are dependent on reliable and convenient transportation. But wait, this bill raised overall funding to record levels! Let?s examine it a little more closely. It increased the number of non highway projects to be funded, including $30 million for a moving sidewalk in Altoona, Pennsylvania. Now that makes me mad every time I think about it. • 5. Economic Evaluation Essay The change in health profiles of the population and the evolution of medical technology have made more explicit the gap between what medicine can do and what is economically feasible (Fuchs, 2000). Resources to satisfy needs are scarce and every society must decide how better to allocate the scarce resource among the different alternative uses. Economics tries to address the normative question of which allocation of resources is best for the society. The answer to such question depends crucially on the objective being pursued. When comparing different alternatives, under the classical assumptions of competitive markets (the Arrow Debreu economy) and Pareto efficiency, a reallocation is said to be efficient if no one in the economy is made ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is the so called Hicks Kaldor criterion, which allows making judgements about policies without making inter personal comparisons. However, there are two problems with this criterion: marginal utility of income must be the same across individuals and it may be the case that a movement back to the original allocation increase welfare, so it would be impossible to define which allocation is better. Also, the information that would be needed to collect makes the application of this criterion quite infeasible. This is the theoretical basis for many cost benefit studies in health care that rely on methods like contingent valuation to measure benefits from health care interventions. If this is the theoretical basis for cost benefit analysis, it means the acceptance of Pareto optimality concept and its related distributional implications. Individual utility is what is being maximised and individuals are assumed to be the best judges of their own welfare. Given the limitations of the welfarist approach, some have argued to rely on explicit welfare functions to aggregate individuals preferences and explicitly address the issues of distribution, but as Arrow demonstrated, it is impossible to aggregate individual preferences in a coherent way. • 8. Summary Of The Canterbury Tales And Miller s Tale In Chaucer s The Canterbury Tales, there are 29 pilgrims making their way to Canterbury to see the shrine to Thomas A Becket, who was martyred there. They are accompanied by Chaucer, the narrator, and Harry Bailey, the host. The host proposes a storytelling contest to help pass the time. The Host is the sole judge of the contest, and each story is judged on its entertainment and moral factors. The winner will receive a free meal, paid for by all the other pilgrims upon their arrival back at the inn. Each Pilgrim was to tell two stories on the way there, and two on the way back. The pilgrims stories covered a large spectrum of subjects and morals along the way. The wide variety of the stories, in a way, makes it easier for the judge to judge the stories, but also harder. A good example of two very contrasting stories in the contest are the Miller s Tale and the Man at Law s Tale. The Man at Law s Tale would have won the contest. Even though it is not in the same rhyme scheme, has a confusing storyline and some evil characters, it is far more clean, moral, and appropriate than the adultery, lies, and scandal of the Miller s Tale. Before The Miller s Tale, The Host encourages him not to go, because he is too drunk, and will not be able to clearly tell a good story. Mustangs have played an active role in our history by providing a means to travel, an expansion of our country, and as a natural beauty to see in the wild: therefore, it is crucial to protect and oversee the care of these animals in an effective manner. In response to the article, I agree with the information about body confidence and its negative effects on body image of teenage girls. In the beginning of the article, the author shows a progression of teenage girls comparing their bodies to those they see in movies and magazines for the previous generation to social media for millennials. The ever evolving social media is constantly allowing for the opportunities to compare themselves to unrealistic versions of the human figure. A Review of the Doctrine of Agency by Necessity INTRODUCTION: The doctrine of agency by necessity establishes that authority shall be assumed, in a necessitous situation, by a person who acts in the interest of the principal. The Indian Contract Act remains silent as to classification of the doctrine under any section, though many debate that it is to be under the head of Section 189. This is an extremely ambiguous area in the law of agency, as there are quite a few specific scenarios apart from the quintessential shipmaster , which are debatable as to assumption of authority. In this paper, the concepts of the conditions prerequisite to the assumption of authority shall be discussed, and then an analysis of the special situations of ambiguity with reference to cases shall be addressed. ANALYSIS Normally, the authority conferred to an agent by his principal stands as the limits, beyond which any action taken by the agent has no legal validity and makes the agent liable. But if the circumstances are so demanding, such that the interests of the principal are at stake due to a situation of emergency, the law confers certain extraneous rights on the agent which empower him to take certain measures, even those extending to changing the legal position of the principal, so as to protect the principal s interests. Even in such cases, there are some conditions to be satisfied. These conditions are, (1) it must be impracticable for the agent to communicate with the principal, (2) the act of the agent must be absolutely ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Role of Sight, Scent, and Sound by the White-tailed Deer Use and relative role of sight, scent, and sound by white tailed deer (Odocoileus virginianus) to locate and select between different types of foods Introduction The foraging habits of white tailed deer (Odocoileus virginianus; hereafter deer) have been extensively researched. Studies have evaluated seasonal influence as well as other environmental influences on forage selection by deer (Moen 1981, Rogers et al. 1981, McCullough 1985, and others). However, no such research has ever tested to determine what senses deer use to locate and select between different food types or the relative importance of each sense involved in that process. We are missing much of the basic knowledge of physiology and anatomy related to the sensory capabilities of deer (D Angelo et al. 2006). Information from this type of research is becoming increasingly important to wildlife biologists, as they can use it to improve other forage selection studies aimed at reducing crop depredation or other wildlife damage. So little is known about the role of sight, smell, and sound in deer ability to locate and select between forage types, therefore quantitative information in this area of research needs further attention (Sayre et al. 1992). By understanding the importance of each sense in the location and selection of different food types by deer, new studies can be set up that focus on the most important sense, while also considering what effects the other senses have on their behavior. The house of Hohenzollern is said to be a noble family and royal dynasty of prince electors, kings and emperors of Prussia, Germany, and Romania. Even floating islands, also known as tussocks, floatons, or sudds are common in many Florida lakes and across the world (Mallison, C.T., 2001). These islands have been known to carry exotic plants and vertebrate animals. Floating islands promote trans ocean dispersal of marine and terrestrial organisms. • 27. The Painting Square At La Trinite The painting Square at La Trinité (Le Square de La Trinité) (1875) by Pierre Auguste Renoir is located at the RISD museum in Providence, RI. This is an oil painting on canvas, surrounded by an ornate gold frame. Square at La Trinité is a pastel colored landscape scene with nature, figures and buildings in the background. The main focus of the painting is the two people in the right hand corner, one a female and the other a male who are strolling through a lively garden. During the 19th century impressionist artists wanted to capture life as they saw it happening. Another artist who had a similar style to Renoir was Monet who painted works such as Beach at Trouville (1870) where he painted his wife sitting on the beach taking part in middle class leisure. Renoir s work demonstrates the impressionist technique important to the 19th century, evident by the way he captured middle class leisure in a modern subject matter. In Square at La Trinité there are very prominent vertical lines. The two figures in the right corner of the painting are vertical figures and are what the viewer is initially drawn to when first looking at the image. Another really distinct vertical line is the tree on the left hand side of the painting. That tree stands out in particular because of its dark color compared to the right side of the painting. The buildings in the background are made up of both horizontal and vertical lines. The roof and windows in particular are examples of horizontal lines. The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 30. Quantitative And Qualitative With qualitative and quantitative most psychological researchers use both types of methods. In particular, qualitative methods are widely used as exploratory methods; then the results of qualitative analysis are used to design quantitative research. What is the difference between quantitative and qualitative research? In this essay I will go into more detail on these two forms of research looking at the definition, strengths, limitations and key features of each research method. Qualitative research focuses on gathering of mainly verbal data rather than measurements. The gathered information is then analyzed in an interpretative or subjective manner. The body possesses many states of consciousness, both conscious and unconscious. Sleep is the ring leader of the unconscious mind, and makes sure the body runs healthy while we are blissfully unaware of our surroundings. Sleep has always been a behavior that integrates itself into everyday life. In fact, we spend about one third of our life sleeping. Often times people take sleep for granted, but it is essential in order to feel refreshed. While we are sleeping, the hypothalamus regulates body functions. (Swann, 2013). Seven to nine hours of sleep is necessary for the brain to restore. Sleep is an important factor because it affects one s health. The amount of sleep a person gets at night can affect their academic performance, number of accidents, amount of injuries, and an increase in the chance of obesity. (Noland et al, 2009). Firstly, this technique is a sound method for infertile couples to have a genetically related child and it is a method to provide a patient medical treatment in a form of gene therapy or organ transplants (Hayry 2003). Secondly, the value of personal self governance has been emphasized by human traditions in which the liberty of individuals is seen as important to individuals in our society today. Hydrogen Peroxide And Catalase Reaction Lab The rate of reaction between Catalase and the hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) can vary depending on many factors including the enzyme concentration in a solution. In this investigation, the rate of reaction will be measured by the change in temperature of the liquefied spinach (catalase) over a period of 30 seconds, once the hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) has been added into the solution. It is expected that the change in temperature will initially increase as the concentration of the Catalase increases in the hydrogen peroxide (H2O2). As more Catalase is added into the hydrogen peroxide (H2O2), the rate of reaction is expected to increase due to a higher concentration of enzyme present and therefore a greater frequency of successful collisions between the enzyme and substrates resulting in a faster breakdown of the substrate. Cathars were notably anti marriage and anti sex so it would seem unlikely for them to make up this belief, or endorse it in the first place. According to Lynn Picknett [The Cathars] idea of Jesus and Mary Magdalene being sexual partners can hardly have been the result of wishful thinking on their part. In fact they struggled with several different theological justifications to explain the marriage, something that would not have exercised them so greatly if they felt they could dismiss the story as complete nonsense. (Picknett 94) The Cathars were killed in the Albigensian Crusade from 1209 to 1229 which first started with the Massacre of Beziers, on the feast day of St. Mary Magdalene. Some theorists say that the fact that the massacre happened on the Cathar celebration of St. Mary Magdalene shows that the Catholic church was threatened by the Cathar s ideas regarding Mary and Jesus. Although there is no way this can be proven, it does strike many researchers as an odd ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 47. Helped by Her Son During Abusive Relationship in The... In Mother the audience is lead on a journey of strengthening and renewed youthfulness as the mother becomes increasingly active in her son s movement. For twenty years the mother was held captive to an abusive, maddened husband whom constantly hurt the mother. During this time the mother became accustomed to her situation and only her son s movement change this outlook on life. Gorky uses dark imagery and diction to portray the evolution of the mother from a fearful, weak person to a strong, youthful participant in her son s movement. Pavel s recurring kindness and openness to the mother allowed the mother to move forward but with the removal of Pavel her crutch is snatched from her and she falls. When the gendarmes arrived it is made ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Despite her injured state this realization only strengthens her understanding of her son s movement and forces her to stop using Pavel as a crutch. So strong is her resentment and new understanding that the mother embraces the movement to the point of wanting to be arrested as well. There is a moment when she, in her mournful, but enlightened state, seems to hallucinate about the gendarmes. It seemed to her that she almost heard the jingling of their spurs (pg. 75). The mother has despite the circumstances come to understand herself as an individual in her son s movement, not just his mother and supporter. The gendarmes she now imagines as coming not only for her son but also for her. In the end the mother has completely moved on from her previous life. Now she understands and as a result wishes that they had taken [her], too! (pg. 75) as she is also in the movement that they so desperately want to end. The mother begins as a hopeless, accepting, slave to society s way of life, but over time comes to understand that there is something more. Her husband was and the other men are trapped in a way of life that promotes cruelty; a dark and hopeless life. Contradictory to this Pavel becomes the light out and shows the mother that society does not have to be trapped in cruelty. There is a way to life that is good, where people help each other and this is what the mother comes to except in this ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 48. The Effects Of Monopolies On The Economy Essay Monopolies People have been doing anything in their power to gain money. Many think they are leading the competition with doing nothing wrong. Others see it as unfair to do the things that monopolies have done to society. Lawsuits have been made to stop the ones behind this, but some monopolies weren t always out to hurt the economy, but to help it. Monopolies have impacted this economy in the past and even to this day. Way back in 1932, Charles todd and his wife decided to introduce a new game to some fellow friends. It was a real estate board game. They sat around playing the game by rolling the dice and buy properties. The couple liked it so much that they asked Charles if he would make them their own set to play with. Charles began to show more and more people the game, and then began applying more and more rules to it. Many began to ask the name of the game, and where it came from. They also asked about the rules, who had come up with them. Charles had no answer for them. Where it did start was in 1903 from woman named Elizabeth Magie that lived in Washington DC. She spent many late nights trying to come up with a perfect board game. The main idea she a was going for was a game that represented current day s political problems. Drawing after drawing she finally had the game. Elizabeth spoke to the public about her game. The game included buying and selling railways, houses, hotels, paying taxes, collecting annual income, and if you trespassed on someone s land you ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 49. Compare And Contrast Humans And Chimpanzees Humans and Chimpanzees are more alike than most people think, specifically, in regards to behavioral characteristics. This paper will attempt to highlight some of these characteristics. We will compare and contrast the social dynamics, eating habits, the use of tools as well has various forms of communication used by chimpanzees and humans. Findings will suggest that human behavior is linked to a common ancestor to humans and chimpanzees. Chimpanzees are very social primates. They can be found, much like humans, living in, and relying on communities to sustain themselves (Gill 2016). One example is the fact that security is very important and male chimpanzees are often observed patrolling their territory in groups (Lang 2016) much like police officers patrol their jurisdiction to ensure their territory is safe. The example of chimpanzees securing their perimeter also illustrates how territorial they are. In fact, they are just as territorial as humans. Imagine if someone walks through a stranger s front door uninvited. In a lot of households, the unwelcome intruder could be either imprisoned, shot or otherwise chased off depending on the circumstances. Further expanding on social habits of chimpanzees, their communication habits should not be overlooked. They have several and many different ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... We see a lot of behavior similarities between humans and chimpanzees. The similarities found in chimpanzee behavior seems to be a primitive version of our behavior suggesting that we have a common ancestor with them. If humans and chimpanzees come from a common ancestor, we have to ask why humans evolved to be so much more advanced than chimpanzees. Perhaps chimpanzees didn t need to further evolve to ensure their survival. Perhaps the only way humans can survive is with large brains and complex social ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 50. Advantages And Disadvantages Of Price Escalation In India, Government departments, organizations, public sector undertakings have adopted different formulae to compensate the contractor on the price variations of materials, labour and Petroleum, Oil and Lubricant (POL). Reimbursements for price escalation are provided in the Central and State government construction contracts namely Central Public Works Department, Military Engineer Services, Tamil Nadu Public Works Department. Reimbursement of material price escalation is calculated based on Whole sale Price Index (WPI) and Labour escalation is calculated based on the Consumer Price Index (CPI). These areas should be noted and monitored by industry practitioners during all stages of the construction process. The most common contributing factors in claims were increase in scope of the work, weather, restricted access, and acceleration. Categories of claims that were mentioned in the largest number of claims were site overhead, loss of productivity, loss of revenue, and financing costs. Contract clauses that were quoted in the claims were most commonly in the areas of delays, scheduling, and increase in the scope of work. The special consideration should be given to contract clauses dealing with changes/extras, disputes, soil/site conditions, and delay. The essential steps an owner can take to minimize risks and deal with the identified causes are to allow reasonable time for the design team to produce clear and complete drawings and specifications, to use value engineering and implement constructability during the different stages of the project, to provide a proper mechanism for processing and evaluating change orders that pay for direct costs, indirect costs, and loss of productivity associated with any changes if any, to use critical path method scheduling, cost control, and 37 productivity analysis to monitor progress and detect any change ... • 51. Examples Of Categorisation Categorisation is not a matter to be taken lightly. There is nothing more basic than categorisation to our thought, perception, action and speech. Every time we see something as kind of thing, for example, a tree, we are categorising. Whenever we reason about kinds of things (...) we are employing categories. Whenever we intentionally perform any kind of action (...) we are using categories . (Lakoff 1987: 6) We categorise all physical objects and motor activities we come across in our everyday life and we make decisions based on those categories. Without the ability to categorise, we could not function at all, either in the physical world or in our social and intellectual lives. An understanding of how we categorise is central to any understanding of how we think and how we function, and therefore central to an understanding of what makes us human . (Lakoff 1987: 6) Although traditional Aristotelian view on categories provides answers that differ from the recent research, both classical and cognitive theories see categorisation as crucial to understanding how human beings make sense of experience and how they communicate. Categorization is basic to human thought, perception, action, and speech. It is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
