The University of Indianapolis educational leadership program is a nationally accredited principal preparation program that merges theory and practice in all areas of school leadership. Students gain a deep understanding of schooling issues through interactive class dialogue and use that knowledge to design projects around evidence-based solutions. Students apply those strategies in field experiences as they learn to carry out the day-to-day responsibilities that characterize 21st century schools.
This six-page infographic was developed as part of the Preventing School Failure (PSF) project. Adapted from the Agency’s ecosystem model of inclusive education systems, it focuses on the four ecosystem levels and represents the elements of the model that are relevant for preventing school failure.
Within the PSF project, the model summarises the inclusive policy areas that are particularly important for preventing school failure. The specific areas are linked to wider policy aims that are key priorities for preventing school failure.

Presentation by Dr Lawrence Ingvarson, ACER and Ed Roper, Brisbane Grammar School at the 2015 ACER Excellence in Professional Practice Conference.
The ACER Professional Community Framework describes the five domains that characterise schools with strong professional culture, as defined by the Australian Performance and Development Framework, together with key elements, indicators and rubrics. The Professional Community Questionnaire provides a confidential online survey of all teaching staff in a school, based on the framework. Initial trials indicate that the questionnaire has high levels of internal reliability.
School leaders can use the framework and questionnaire to identify key areas for action and measure changes over time. Participating schools receive a comprehensive report
based on the survey results. This session will report on the results of administering the Professional Community Questionnaire in one school.

The Aboriginal Leadership Scholarships Pilot (ALSP) Program provided two Aboriginal teachers aspiring to be site based leaders with the opportunity to participate in a semi- structured leadership pathway program which included support by outstanding school leaders.
Pathways to leadership in non-government schoolsMATSITI
A pilot project that encourages and supports Aboriginal teachers to aspire to school leadership through a case management model. A cohort of candidates was invited to participate in the project and was engaged with activities that would build their capacity, knowledge and understanding of school leadership.
Catholic Education South Australia (CESA) has developed a state based suite of programs that caters to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students from Years 6-12 in catholic schools, staff of catholic schools and Indigenous students in tertiary education. Working towards the goals of MATSITI, CESA has been able to achieve attainable pathways for its Indigenous community across a broad spectrum of Indigenous students as a result of data collection, regular and consistent communication, and targeting specific schools who have made a commitment to our programs.

Scoring Goals is a project that utilises sport to connect Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples to a career in Health and Physical Education teaching.

Based on the Institute’s successful Stronger Smarter Leadership Program and under Dr Chris Sarra’s leadership, the program is facilitated by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people including principals and community leaders. It includes a 5-day professional learning program, 2 day workshop and regular contact with the project team.

The Roman Empire, a vast and enduring power, stands as one of history's most remarkable civilizations, leaving an indelible imprint on the world. It emerged from the Roman Republic, transitioning into an imperial powerhouse under the leadership of Augustus Caesar in 27 BCE. This transformation marked the beginning of an era defined by unprecedented territorial expansion, architectural marvels, and profound cultural influence.
The empire's roots lie in the city of Rome, founded, according to legend, by Romulus in 753 BCE. Over centuries, Rome evolved from a small settlement to a formidable republic, characterized by a complex political system with elected officials and checks on power. However, internal strife, class conflicts, and military ambitions paved the way for the end of the Republic. Julius Caesar’s dictatorship and subsequent assassination in 44 BCE created a power vacuum, leading to a civil war. Octavian, later Augustus, emerged victorious, heralding the Roman Empire’s birth.
Under Augustus, the empire experienced the Pax Romana, a 200-year period of relative peace and stability. Augustus reformed the military, established efficient administrative systems, and initiated grand construction projects. The empire's borders expanded, encompassing territories from Britain to Egypt and from Spain to the Euphrates. Roman legions, renowned for their discipline and engineering prowess, secured and maintained these vast territories, building roads, fortifications, and cities that facilitated control and integration.
The Roman Empire’s society was hierarchical, with a rigid class system. At the top were the patricians, wealthy elites who held significant political power. Below them were the plebeians, free citizens with limited political influence, and the vast numbers of slaves who formed the backbone of the economy. The family unit was central, governed by the paterfamilias, the male head who held absolute authority.
Culturally, the Romans were eclectic, absorbing and adapting elements from the civilizations they encountered, particularly the Greeks. Roman art, literature, and philosophy reflected this synthesis, creating a rich cultural tapestry. Latin, the Roman language, became the lingua franca of the Western world, influencing numerous modern languages.
Roman architecture and engineering achievements were monumental. They perfected the arch, vault, and dome, constructing enduring structures like the Colosseum, Pantheon, and aqueducts. These engineering marvels not only showcased Roman ingenuity but also served practical purposes, from public entertainment to water supply.
