1. Aims and Considerations sheet
Existing Products:
How many existing artefacts do you feel you will need to look at?
I will look to researching 3 or 4 different homeless campaigns and charity’s, to get a broad
spectrum of the different types of advertising material that is on the market today. This being;
websites, poster, and leaflets, with this information gathered I can them compare the similarities
and differences between them to then come up with some common conventions that are seen
amongst many advertising campaigns, which will help me in the long term when it come to
creating my own advertising material.
What kinds of artefacts are you expecting to look at?
I think it is important to look at a number of different artefacts from a numbers of different
platforms, both print, e-media and broadcast, from this I will have gained more in-depth research
into the ways in which they target there audience. In terms of print I look at leaflets and posters. In
terms of e-media I can looks at websites and blogs and for broadcast looking at moving images and
the adverts that are seen on TV and online, and so it will be a good way to analyse the ways that
they hook there audience. By looking at a broad range of artefacts it will help me to decide the
areas that I want to go into when it comes to making my own advertising campaign.
What elements will you be looking at to help you with your research?
To be able to source this information I will be using a number of different methods whether this be
in magazines and newspapers, looking at the layout and the type of print publications they are
found in. Online is also a valuable resource, as a way of finding past and present advertisements
and comparing how they had developed and improved. Online sources will also allow me to look at
moving image, as my adverts found online can be moving as an interactive piece.
Primary Research:
How many people would you hope to question as part of your primary research?
I hope to interview as many people as possible (15-20) with the help of online methods which will
help to promote this, and spread the word whether this be by blogs, social media or websites
dedicated to the interviewing such as survey monkey.
What age group would you like to target and why?
I think it will work well If I aim to target people of all ages, as there could be a difference in the
response given, own to the age of these people. But as this project is based around the homeless
charity SASH, and they look to target between 16 and 24, and so knowing more into there
demographic will help me when it comes to creating my own material.
What methods will you use?
To conduct this research I will use the questionnaire website survey monkey, which Is a good way
of getting this information out to the masses, as well as been able to get an instant response which
is needed for this project, and the time scale we are working in. I will also be looking into leaflets,
brochures and posters surrounding the campaigns, and been able to analyse the content, fonts,
layout and text. Pulling out the similarities and differences, and having my own opinion on the
layout likes and dislikes , things I would change.
2. How will you know if your research has been successful?
From the research conducted I will have a clear indication if the research has been successful
because of the response given from the questionnaire, and how it is then presented in the
presentation which will be given, I hope the interview conducted will then in the end prove helpful
for when it comes to my own production.
Considerations:
Why might you need to be sensitive when carrying out research during this project?
When it comes to the questions that will be asked it is important to make sure you are sensitive
around any potential issues that could arise whether this be down to their culture, religion or
personal experiences. it could also be down to the family matters which could become personal
issues that might offend or target a certain group of people.
Could you face any problems when trying to do this research? If so, is there a way to overcome
these?
When researching possible problems, this could be down to not having the appropriate
information in the time space that is provided meaning work to be continued out of college hours
whether this is within breaks or after college. I will also need to make sure that when researching it
is all age appropriate, and be aware of possible images that could offend or harm others in the
working environment .
Where would you expect your finished pieces to be displayed and distributed?
I will look to have all work advertised on a number of different platforms to address the masses.
Posters found within the city and attracting the younger audience that I am target, it will also be
displayed on billboard and buses As a way of transport and seen by many people on the go. If I was
to produce a leaflet these could be found at campaigning events for people interested in donating.
What funding issues might an organisation like SASH face?
Funding issues such as donations could cause a problem it people aren’t willing to do so, then they
may not be able continuing in volunteering, so it is important to make sure promotion is a key, to
making sure that people are aware of your situation and what you are fundraising for?
